Speaker 1 (00:03):
Where on you win some, you lose more.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
All right, the special treat here on AFL today gather
around joined by Lou Hodge Hodgy.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
How's Adelaide trading you? That's always good. Didn't bring the
family over this year. Last year we come across with
with laws and the four boys. That an absolute ball.
But yeah, I'm over here just purely work this week.
But I said, Adelaide Wather's turned it on for us. Yeah,
just over the water. I went for run this morning
and saw they're setting up. It's going to be another
big year.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, that activation across the road where the footy fan
festival is.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
It looks massive this year. We took the kids over
last year and we left with about thirty footballs. All
the activations they've just given it out footage, so the
kids at the ball. But I think it's a Minigram
final for us. We're having all eight een teams and
you know that the Adelaide people get wanted as well. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Third year of gather around now and let's talk about
you know, Tasmani or someone else trying to take it.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
But this is Adelaide's event. It needs to be for
the rest of time. Yeah, I agree. People said take
it over w A. You can't drive over there. I
think Adelaide's got It's eight hours from Melbourne. Yeah, and
you've got so much to do with it. You go
to the wineries, whether it's McLaren Vale, Barossa. There's good
golf courses which I'll find out tomorrow. But yeah, it's
(01:15):
just a good spot and everything's so close. Yeah they've
done it. Well, yeah, that's it.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
And then just sort of just touching on that, like
the different grounds and everything. It just brings something different
to it. And like you said, everything's so close, but
you said you're walking around this morning, me too, walking
past Liam Baker and a couple of the West Coast
boys and then you see, you know, a couple of
Daconing's walkway and everyone's just like, yeah, this is great.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, well I think that's what I was in the
lift and for a dated somebody come across the Carlon supporter,
so they're optimistic. First rid for the year. But the
kid had a smile. For me, it's the fact that
he went past and the heroes of EC's on TV.
He actually going see everyone from different clubs, which is great.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah, and I love that the clubs are open with
open training sessions and all the signings as well. It's
invested in it. It's the access that we don't get
through the year. But we're gonna have to talk some
foot and then we'll get onto some fun stuff, lad us.
So let's talk about the weekend. Some games good, some
games not so good. So we'll start off Saturday out
at the Barossa Valley. We're sending a couple of boys
on the train out there. North and Gold Coast Sons.
We'll just keep this one nice and simple. Give us
(02:12):
a winner and a market.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
The Suns like the son's impressive. You saw the game
against Adelaide last week. North has still going through that
and that development phase. And I had a bit of
a comparison from when Clarko came to Hawthorne in his
second year and it's his third, but he missed a
bit that first year. Yeah, but they're on the same trade.
We're actually worse, so I think we don't know. Weage
lose the margin of about sixty five points over about
seven games stretching clarco second year. So give them time
(02:35):
if you're a North Melbourne supporter. But I think the
Suns should be should be company.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
And just with that you said give them time. Is
there a point where it's like, Okay, we've given you
enough because it's probably been about eight years now, but
clark has been there for three Is it all right?
We need to see progression this year and then.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
But you think they've had four different coaches since COVID
so and even with Clarko being appointed, Brett Raton coaching
ten games, So whenever it's the same as West coach.
They've been going through their phase for three years, but
Mini's just been in there f under twelve months. So
you need time for the coaches to teach their style.
It's a new voice and gim So if if if
(03:10):
they're in the same position in two and a half
years time, you're probably have gone right. Something needs to happen.
But people just have to be patient because we've got
so many different media outlets. People want to be first
to put pressure on and take break yeah, all that stuff.
So it's it's give eighty months and then we can
start to really help look and see if they're developing
or not.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
All right, let's go to Carlton West Coast, which is
going to be here at the Adelaide overl So the
line's thirty six and a half. You've seen a bit
of Carton this year because they're the primetime Blues this year.
Surely they win this, especially with some of West Coast
outs and Harry McKay good news that he's going to
play this.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah. Well you look at their first half. They've actually
played some okay footy, like they've led every every game
at halftime they've just fallen around that back half which
everyone's You look at Zip before and you think, oh
it's disaster. Carlton should win quite comfortably there. Yeah, we
know they're going to be win at half time anyway.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Yes, to start and just give someone because as I said,
you've seen a bit of them. Give us someone that's
going to have maybe fifteen or twenty touches that someone
can throw in a bit of a multi fit tab.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Look, someone who they didn't get the ball in the hands.
I'll be putting Welsh to the half back line and
get running creativity off the back line. He's going to
get his thirty anyway, but I'd be trying to get
the ball into their hands as much as possible, just
to try and get a bit of smooth ball movement
they've seen under pressure they bomb it away and just
turns the ball over and.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
There would be something to take out a last week
ow GWS rabbit sort of waltz through with a bit
of handball at times. If they can do that and
link up with some of their good kicks, Charlie and
Harry should be able to feast.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, and that's the thing is ball moment's key. Look
you look at how Cali won the flag. You look
what Hawthorne have been able to do the last since
a round six last year. But if you're able to
move the ball, well that's what breaks open defenses and
can't have been able to do that.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
We've got to go to Norwood because for some reason,
the rainning Premier is the Brisbane Lions can't get on
the Adelaide Oval and they take on the Western Bulldogs.
So firstly, what do the dog not the dogs? What
do the Lions have to do to play at the
Adelaide Oval?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Well, they've not played through it, gather around once once,
so's I'm enjoyed because I don't mind for a bit
of a look. But it is interesting that the reigning
premiers don't get a chance to play. It's ridiculous considering
how good adelaide Over does look at the moment. But
I'll be going out and having a bit of a
look at it. I reckon it's going to be a
decent contest. Like the Doggies at times have showed they
(05:21):
played some good football. Clearly they've got a few big outs,
but I actually reckon it's going to be pretty close.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Eric Kipwood as the key forward, he struggled at the
start of the year and I'm big on them sort
of not being able to win the flag with him
as the number one forward. Is it something where the
little blokes have to step up and he's just got
to create a contest.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Well, I think if you look at how the game's going,
you look at Hawthorne and spoke about it. They've got
five blogues under six foot yeah in their four line
with Joel, so you sort of the big key forward
isn't really the big focus anymore. And you've got to
think Kipwood he came into the football club when they
were down the bottom. He was a twenty one year
old playing in the key position. He didn't have a
preseason this year groins where you sort of come back
(06:01):
and people jump on him straight away. He had no
preseason I've completely forgotten, so the fact that he would.
He lives around the corner from m so I see
him at the walking and he was hobbling for the
majority of the preseason from ruins. So you sort of
sit back and go if you understand how big preseasons
are in full of these days, and this poor bloke
did not have one. The fact that he's out there
still trying to compete, it shows a bit of ticker. Yeah,
(06:21):
but as we said before, this is the day and
age we are. But people are very quick to criticize.
But I don't think it's a massive thing having your
key forward not kicking six goals as long as he's
creating a contest and you've got pretty good small forwards Alnes.
It's an interesting point of you, Madge.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
One of your ex team mate Xaviel, he's big on
key Ford's being completely over added and he thinks there's
probably five or six good ones and the rest cut
their contracts in half.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Well that Zavier Xavier not standing over sixth fort aall
doesn't like tall people, but yeah, I think they're way
the game. Who knows Hi ten his time. It might
get back to you having your two big tools. Yeah,
I know that. We went through and had weird bud
Rough and then we bought him David Hale and and Gunner.
So footy of volves and we're going through a phase
now where it's small men. Probably Hawthorne and Colwood introduced it.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Now I go to two struggling teams will be here
Adelaide Oval Saturday night, the D's and s and both
teams and desperate need of a win.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Obviously the D's Winlesses' with the one win of the game. Well,
I said Carlton and West Coast should swap over to Norwood.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
I jokingly said it on Twitter and a lot of
Carlton fans got really angry at me, going we draw
a crowd. I'm like, yeah, your footage you do to
a half time with the Yeah. But actually there's an
interesting point. I had an idea last year that there
should be like a promotion and relegation system at gather Around.
So if you win at Adelaide Oval, you stayed there
the next year. If you lose, obviously, depending on where
you finish on the ladder, you booted to Norwood. If
(07:42):
you lose at Norwood, you're at the Barossa.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Of the hills. People at norwaldy gonna ever go? You know,
you've had a fair go out there ground three. I
like Norwood And actually I've got a family member.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Who's high up in like the board or something that
till now. Yeah, Hi Scotty, Scotty.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
And Carly love you.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
But yeah, it's more like, obviously probably do want to
play at the Adelaide over Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
I think you look if the lines people coming over
you wa'ts their team? You want to three years and
if you want to rotate it around and give they got.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Given what the Friday Twilight two years and I think
as well, so it's like give them.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Give them a slot they won the flag year next year.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
But des in Essendon, the Ford line and mid connection
with the Demons at the moment is why off Bailey
Fritch is out of form. Jacob van Royan is trying,
but it's just not falling into his hands, Like what's what's.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
Going wrong there? That is something that they can fix
because they can't kick a score? Well that's it means
it's hasn't just been a issue Yeah, this has been
their biggest issue since postgrowing Final, and even they had
Friture look good because that had space down there as well. Yeah,
but this has been their issue for four years. It's
been getting it. They've always been good at contested contested footing,
(08:45):
their defense has always been pretty sound. They've struggled center
forward and that connection piece gone, and now the fact
that they're losing stoppage as well, they're leaking some scores.
It's no surprise that if they get those areas, if
they're losing those areas, they're going to lose the game.
Because watching their entries inside fort fifty, you sit back
and you put your hair out. Yeah, who wins this one,
Essendon or the D's though I actually don't know, Yeah,
(09:10):
or you sit back and go Essendon has shown. I'm
probably going to lean towards Eshton because they can connect
and they've got a lot of upside. But then you
look at always bullish on Malbourn at the start of
the year, you look through the midfield, a lot they've
got on all the stray midfield. Yeah, just they're not
living up to it and everything around a short the way.
So I'm probably going to lean towards Essendon. But this
is no confident, no confidence. Yeah, I just hope it's
(09:32):
a good game.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I think I'm going to take the under in the
over under total score there both teams under one hundred.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
I think my big call last week was the D's
one score sixty and they got to what forty five?
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Yeah, yeah, who knows. Let's hope it's a Let's hope
it's a shoot. This could be the Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
They just they just slinging around and off we go
and Track kicks five and has thirty and you know
a couple of Bombers boys ups up like Marri.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Could have thirty again mob. Yeah, there we go.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
So we'll just quickly just touch on so Sons Carlton,
Brisbane and not Sure.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Coin toss Albocedent. Yeah, let's get to Sunday.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
A couple of good games obviously there Freo and Richmond
the first game out at the Barossa Valley. This looks
to be free A winning by a healthy margin after
last week. And Josh Tracy, he's a big key for it.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
I'm all in on. Yeah. Well, I think Frio showed
in patches like there. If you go back and watch
the eight minute mark to halftime, they kicked six goals.
They dominate a trick. It was you go Holy free.
But then the second half went back into how they
are so they tease you a lot, and I think Richmond.
Richmond are going through that phase with a They put
(10:40):
on a lot of pressure their second half when the
game was done against against the lines last week. They're
young kids. Likely they looked energetic. Freo probably win by
thirty forty points. Yeah, but what you want to see
is a Richmond supporters. Just the effort they put in,
the pressure that the tackling, and just the connection they had.
They set up a few goals just by being beside
one another and just give them the first option. They'll
(11:02):
win more.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
They'll win more games this year, won't they rich me,
because they'll catch someone off for by the MCG on
a Saturday twilight and they just won't be ready for
the pressure.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
You look at opening it. They caught Carlton should have
made up with fifty points up by twenty five. Though
a bit laconic, but they gave a young team a sniff.
And one thing you do know with that young team
is they've got energy and they've got beliefs. So they're
going to have some patches where they're going to be terrible.
That's what young teams do. But they're going to give
a couple teams a shake and I don't think free.
I'll be ready for it and just one for the
(11:30):
parts out there.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
How many gals do we reckon Josh Tracy can snag
on Sunday five? Yeah, I like it. You're going more.
You'll think I was going four or five. Big, My
big courts the game. We're not talking about it. It'll
be Thursday and that's the time people say this story
about Thriller kicks five on Thursday night.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Yep, yeah, I like I'm big on Thriller. I love
the beer. He's just I love it. Ye massive Yeah,
and apparently he covers more more distance anyway, Like he's
a massive endurance runner, which just blows your mind. When
you come back last year, I hadn't seen you probably
eighten months because of his injuries. Came back last year
looked like four or four.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
So killed at GWS is possibly the match of the
round out at Norwald, and both social media is having
fun going The undefeated Norwood record goes against each other.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Saints have been really surprising. Yeah, they have, especially when
what we saw over here in Adelaide in the first
round when they get belted by the Crows. They looked
like their setups defensively, they couldn't move the ball. But
all of a sudden, the pressure they put Port on
last week just closed down their short game. They really
studied what Port was stronger and shut it down. So look,
(12:42):
Ross has got them. You can never doubt Ross, Like
all of a sudden, they're going to see the right
person and then you go genius. Yeah right, but he
has belief in his players and they've done it. But
it's obviously going to be a big challenge out Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
GWS Flying as well had a very convincingly last week
out of West Coast. Jesse Hogan just like, hey, I'm
in front of the Coleman. I've only played two games.
It's could be a big day for him again.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yeah, I played on a young Yeah, can you put
a young fellow on ho he's off the Coleman? Is
this like the back in the day where Bud walks
out Like who are you turn around watching it? But
although it's I said, it's going to be the way
GWS the fact that the foot that they can play
and they had the package coming last week. Yeah yeah,
so I look there, they haven't thrown a punch. Yeah,
(13:27):
they're good. They're a solid team with experience, with youth,
with speed. They that's what I hope.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Yeah, possession one there, Lucky Widfield gets his hand on
the footage bunches.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
He's been having thirty every week. Just put in it
for thirty, don't even worry about it and winner probably GWS. Yeah,
but that was inside ould have said jas no problems
four weeks ago. Saints. They keep surprising you. So it's
going to be good. But I've got GWS. Yeah, twenty
points we need.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Obviously main event of the week. It's probably not the
match of the round, but the build up makes the
main event. Hawthorne and Port Adelaide. Obviously port Adelaide hosting Hawthorne.
Here what Ken got fined twenty thousand dollars for doing
the plane and yet somehow it's in every bit of promotional.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Material for the week. Ken should invoice the AFL. I
think everyone agreed as soon as he saw it.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Everyone's like either round one or gather around playing against
each other's act.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
You're right, and then that's the thing is that's the
role that it's built. But I think everyone agreed straight
away can apologize said he should have done it five
minutes later, so I'm like, he should have been fine
twenty grand for that. It wasn't offensive, was he. I
agree the position he was in probably didn't look the
best because he should have been. We should have been
talking about fort Adelaide a great win at home. I
forgetting pumped the week before. Yeah, and the young players
(14:43):
that stood up was outstanding. But yeah, I was over
it five minutes afterwards because he apologized to move on,
he regretted what he did and off you go. I
spoke to him because we interviewed him the next week.
I said, why didn't you challenge it? He goes. We
didn't want to continue that, he goes. We were coming
in to play football, He goes, I just wanted to
play the fine Off we go. For one, he must
have too much cap, yeah, but for two, it was
(15:03):
like push it away. We didn't want to keep it
going for a week. But then promotion wise, this happened
for the last six months. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Now, so obviously Port Adelaida struggled to start the year,
Hawthorne absolutely flying.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Fresh offer buy. We'll ask the obvious question straight off
the bat.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
If Hawthorne go, let's say eight goals in front, not
seven like the semi last year, Jack Edvan kicks a
goal to put them eight goals in front.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
We're ten minutes ago in the third quarter. Is he
hitting the plane? I'm like sure? Could you imagine the
port supporters They'll be like, find him, will you sit
back and go? You want him to do it? It
will be a good respect. We'll commentate in the game,
so like, if you did that, it'll be pretty fun.
And on the flip side, if poored up by seven,
(15:46):
I expect like a horn Francis to come in and
get a little bit of but it'll be entertained. Like
the build up this is this is what you want. Like,
it's two teams that have got a pretty big rivalry
over the years, fit to say a little bit of
hatred towards each other. We know the supporters do it,
builds it up. It's good entertainment and I think that's
what you want to see. That's what's going to hold
people to the final game to see what's going to
(16:07):
happen and so.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Obviously Port need to show something because they've been pretty
poor to start this season. Hawthorne of flying and this
is like not Ken's last chance, even though it's his
last season, but they need to come out swinging, not
like last week where they've got an a wrestle and
sin Kilda just.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Like yeah, go away.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
It's very interesting and for Hawthorne this goes back to
twenty fourteen. This is probably since when this rivalry started.
You win that prelim by a couple of points. Port
probably kicked themselves out of the game since then Porter
eight and four against Hawthorne. How is Hawthorne treating this
because they know they're on top of the ladder, They're
the one that everyone's coming after, and it's like we
(16:45):
need to win this game. We haven't won for a
while against them. They had that two heartbreaking losses here
last year.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Yeah, I reckon it's a've built up for different for
both games. Hawthorne are trying to just squash it down. Yeah,
I think Hawthorne sitting the gun. Where fun is it
playing footy? Well, we don't need to get in involved
in that. Where you bring in motivation is when you're
struggling you bring in motivation things. They're a better team
than us. We need to do something. So if we
need to get a run up, to be physical, to
be on edge, Hawthorne's football is getting has got them
(17:12):
to the top of ladder. On the flip side, port
Adelaide's that they're going to use this motivation going to
Ken's going to bring out about the hatred about what
Sisily was calling about. I think we saw today that
Cicily was what he said that you guys have been
irrelevant for eight years. Like Ken is using that. Ken
is using every part of it. He's going to his midfield,
He's going to Butter's Wines, He's going to Horn Frances,
(17:33):
He's going to Rose. He's getting them on edge because
at the end of the day, if they lose this,
that could be in the camp. So that's that's no surprise.
So he's using it. He's almost coaching for his career
and their players have to stand up because he's been
good for that football club. He's been good for those players.
He's give them a lot of belief into them. So
he's building them up to almost on the edge of
(17:54):
their seat, ready to go. So the mindset and the
build up for both teams is so different. SAMD power.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Pepper is going to that hyped up on red bull
and caffeine. Oh, he's going to hurt someone or hurt himself.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
And the other thing is now that there's no day,
there's no warple. The strength of Port Adelaide is the midfield.
Do they sniff see a little bit of smell, a
little bit of blood. The fact that they've got two
of their main mids out, is there a chance to
dominate through that area? Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
So take us back to sort of twenty fourteen and
we have this build up and Sam Mitchell obviously coach
of Porthon, now he's one of the leaders alongside you.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
What is the build up with Clarko towards something like.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
This where your top of the tree, but you seemingly
can't beat this team. Howard sort of Clarko build that
up knowing that there is that rivalry. Port Adelaide fans
may not like you for what you did to Chad
wing Gard that one time.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
And then also there's one head here where the next
time we played him, I was going back with the
flight of the ball and Bochy was there like you
don't touch Bochy over here. Yeah, I've gone to protect
myself and I got Boky down the sternum. Yeah, right
in front of the bench where all the supporters were.
Almost they almost jumped the fence and got me. Yeah.
So we do have a bit of a history. But
I think our history of port goes back even further
(19:02):
than Yeah. It goes back to when Clarko first come.
So I was two thousand and three, four five six,
when Port Adelais in the fact we went through some
years we missed the finals. They physically got stuck into us. Yeah,
they had the big midfielders. That was when Dimmer was there,
and then you come across and coached us. But they
were ruthless and physical, and I remember that We've got
(19:24):
we had scars from that big team beaten up on
arms over here. We had a couple of ninety point losses,
one hundred point losses here at Amy. Sorry, but that
sticks in our mind. So Mitch remembers that, and then
he comes to fourteen and it was Port they probably
should have beaten us, and that begin like they they
three goals nine at quart a time, and then they
had that big flurry on at the end where they
(19:44):
had wind guard come off the back of the square.
We couldn't stop them. So there is a bit of
history with them. And then just adding last year, it's
it's a big build up. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
So with that, are you tipping Hawthorne to get this
job done? But is it going to be closer than
what we think or did? Just Hawthorne put the foot
down and the smallers just get going.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
I'm I think Port of a chance. I'm not gonna lie.
I think Port And for the reason I said before,
Kenny's going to have them on tipping point. They're going
to be on edge, They're gonna smell blood because of
the gaps that Hawthorne may have. They're gonna have to
bring some new guys in as well to try and
fill the void of Warpole and Day. Yeah, I think
it's going to be a ripping contest and I do
(20:25):
think Port have a serious chance to win it. Connor
Roise cap And probably needs to lift a little bit too. Yeah,
I think it having your right hand man not there
is a big so He's I think he's fellow, He's
had to do it all but Butters Butter's is a
bull for a Blokens. So well he's not. He's not
the heart and soul, but he's he lifts people lift
(20:45):
around him. So having Rosie joined back with Butters, I
think that's going to help him. It's not going to
be so much relying on Rosie to be that spark
and that the person to lift them are. That's going
to help his game as well.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
And just finally, so you did mention that because Rosie
is the app And obviously there's the chat about asking Oscrawlan.
We're not going to talk about the contract and meeting
with Sam Mitchell. It's more as a leader, are there
certain players like so obviously when you had Bud when
you were captain, he wasn't a captain type of person.
It was just following me, I know what I'm doing.
And you you were that inspirational leader. You'd come in
and give a message to some of your players to
(21:18):
fire them up. And they're different style of players that
aren't captain, but they are genuine leaders.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Yeah. Well, there's there's certain players who love leadership and
there's certain players who just want to go and play
footag Yeah, and we had a lot of blokes there
that didn't want the follow up and the responsibility of
being a leader, but they are very good lead by
actions on the foot field, and that's the difference. You've
got to mix. Especially today's game is a mix of
all different coins. And if you go through Port Adelaide's side,
(21:44):
the two leaders that you look at out the fields
of Butters and but Rosie Butters and then you've got
a leader leader to their back and all the other
so and obviously all the wants have been a former
captain as well, so you do need a spread of
blokes to be effective on the footing good so my bad.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
As a Swans fan, I've heard people say, oh, Isaacen,
he should be captain. Isaacen, he should be captain. You know,
Callum mill was obviously out injured, but I see him
as a bloke who he's going to play and you're
going to follow him. Where James Robotom is the one
of the heart and soul. He's in and under and
he was captain last week and I saw him watching
the game. He was just pointing everywhere and directing traffic.
That's that kind of bloke that can be a captain.
Whereas you just you're like, yeah, Haynes go, do.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
You think yeah, I think it's gone from the days
like twenty years ago the captain was the best player.
Paul Kelly. Yeah, because it was the best player, because
you know what all you had to do as a
captain is go and toss a coin, be best on
ground and go from that. You're so much more involved.
It's preparation, its organization, it's going to chat with pikes.
Is you're almost doing more off the footy field than
you are on the foodfield as captain, because you're trying
(22:39):
to make sure that the blokes you run run out
with everyone's got clarity in their role, peace of mind
and can go and play. So it's a lot more
behind the scenes being a leader than what it is
is just going to get.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
A kick and one final question at it's only round
four and five, who's going to win.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
The I you you're going to say this? I got
to ask at the start of the year pick me
at top eight had fourteen teams and clearly I've taken
out GW West out of my that's how good I'm going.
I wasn't convinced on GWS either. I thought they got old.
Yeah I'm wrong. I was wrong too. I had Melbourne
I was bullish on Melbourne. I was wrong. I had
them bottom force. I'm good about that. You look back
(23:17):
and the thing is things change. So you look at
round fifteen last year, people going, how can you beat Sydney? Yeah,
but I lived the nightmare again? Thanks. Where you sit
back and go The issue is if you're that far
in front of others, yeah, teams will find that. Teams
will try things to try and beat you because they
know that their best isn't good enough to beat your team.
(23:39):
So that's where things can change. You look at Brisbane
Liones who won the Gon Final. They were two wins
from seven games. Yeah, they were four wins after round twelve,
there were forty four points down halfway through the third
quarter in a final. They go on to win the
ground five. So as far as we're guessing right now,
oh yeah, if we I'm going to say Hawthor on
top of later their premiership folks. Yeah, but that could
change in three weeks. Port Adelaide could beat them, They
(24:01):
could lose the next two and you go, well they
are there, run their out. So it's I'm tossing a
coin and saying to the prefecier errors because no, one
really knows, because it's such an even competition. I've honestly
got no idea. You can't make me pick one right now,
pull a name out of the hat and we'll run
with that.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
You know, let's do a gold coast if they if
they can commit to wearing the pink all season, it'll be.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
The Suns, perfect Sons and Adelaide will be running. Oh,
bring it on, thanks, look, God cheers, because night s
game is going to be happy. Missed by one on
the AFL. With TAB, you can stay in the game
missed by one on any disposal's leg and TAB will
still pay you out as a winner tab where on.
(24:40):
Imagine what you could be buying instead
