Speaker 1 (00:05):
Apogae Production. Welcome back to another episode about My Bad
(00:26):
Mum podcasts. Fresh from the school holidays?
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Do you feel fresh? I don't.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
I don't feel fresh. I feel a little bit delirious.
I feel like I've just been absolutely chasing my towel
for the whole of the holidays.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I don't think I'm going to catch up. I don't
think I'm going to get back.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
See, there's two things that happened this morning that I
thought is not a great way to start this term.
The first thing was that I did not get up
and exercise to get it off to a dart. And
the second thing is that I instead of washing my hair,
I just covered it in dry shampoo and scraped it back.
But for me, I'm like, that's the toothing.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Yeah, have not started.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Well, I'm all for that. But we were in Sydney
and then I had to fly back up from Sydney early.
On the early flight this morning, I was killing for
a can of dry shampoo. I just put mine in
a slick back and this is all Ellen natural oil.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
I was just like, oh wow, this is this is slick.
I also didn't exercise, yeah okay.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
And I also have got grays everywhere because I haven't
had my hair colored.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah, but you know, holidays were good to you, looked lovely,
you got a break in which was one hundred percent
what you needed. And I will be sure to let
you know everything that happened in ours.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Okay, am I a bad mum for being super precious?
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yeah? The straight Katie, I had this moment where it
was just yesterday. It does come off the back of
two full weeks of kids, like solid kids, solo parenting,
and lots of things on and so the first week
we talked about was now so with a dance competition.
So we're at dance like Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, and then.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
We're home Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
By the time you're home and you unpack, it's sort
of like chasing my towel fit all my clients in
on the next two days whilst trying to amuse children.
I think I like described it as someone asked me
what I was doing. I said, I feel like I'm
on the amazing race of school holidays. I'm just chasing
my children. I think I sent it to you saying
I'm just chasing my kids trying to amuse them. Twenty
four hours a day, seven days a week.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
And that's the thing with school holidays, especially when you
work for yourself, yeah, is that you are still working,
but you're also.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
And then you trying and all too because I beat
myself up a lot, like pick up my phone and
it will be to either life. Read this morning, for instance,
you know podcast notes, I was going through podcasting notes
to them. It looks like I'm just sitting on my
phone and Elsie in the aircraft so just.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Looks at me and goes, mom, can you get off
your phone? Can you talk to me?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
And I was like, and I said to it, I'm
just refreshing over notes that I was reading last night.
She goes, yeah, you're doing it all night last night.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah. I had the exact same thing where I was
trying to read an email and he's like, Mom, you're
not even listening to me. Mom, Mom, Mom, you're not
even listening to me too, busy scrolling Instagram on your phone.
I was like, I'm not scrolling Instagram. I just need
to give back to this email.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Oh yeah, I think that's what because you know, when
you are in that rarity moment scrolling Instagram, they're sure
to see it and then you go.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Oh, I'm not really just sitting here doing this.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
But the precious part came from when you're on holidays,
Like in your mind you're like, oh, I'm on holidays.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Like we went to the.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
NRL Grand Final okay, which was a brilliant weekend for
every Brisbane person ever. Because we won, we came with
two more premierships for the NRL. Now, so every trophy
that you can think of, I think Brisbane's got in
Australia right now. Yeah. But the precious part just comes
from like three nights in a hotel room. One hotel room,
(04:20):
we had a double bed and a roll away. And
the roll away was because I had a meltdown at
the counter because she was like, we just gave you
a large king bed and I looked and I was like, sorry,
I've got two children, I said, but you can see
as I put on the booking notes and when I
put the booking through for three people, and she was like, oh, look,
(04:44):
I'm really sorry. That's just what we offer and we
don't have a roll away.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
I don't know whether us in Australia are really different
with how we sleep. It always baffles me when hotels
say with existing bedding, and then you walk up there's
one bed and I'm like, what about we said in
pan and it was the tiny Yeah, there was room
(05:09):
in Tokyo tiny room and there were two adults, two kids,
one bed.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
But I'd said it was a room big enough.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Can we have rollaway bed?
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Whatever it is?
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Two adults and two kids, and they thought you were
just going.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
To sleep in one bed. I didn't get it, mind you.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
We also flew down on Saturday night, so I did
that to try and avoid the masses of people, which
it was still fully booked in, really busy even Saturday night,
so it was already late. We'd come off a lunch
that we'd been at the Sanford Harvest, gone to Sydney,
got to Sydney and she's telling me I'm going to
sleep in a double bed with my two kids who
are the same size as me.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
And I stood there and I'm looking.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
At her, and I thought there was no point throwing
attention right now, I'm feeling so emotional. But I looked
at her and I went, yeah, I can see that.
But I did put on the book in the rollaway.
Oh I'm just so sorry, man, there's no rollaway yep, okay,
and because I was in my head going, there's no
point making a fuss because they've got none left.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
What are you going to do?
Speaker 3 (06:05):
And she goes, oh, would you like to wait down
here to see what we could do, or would you
like to go to the room.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
I looked at her and I was like, well, it's
clearly like nine point thirty, so I best go up
to the room. I said. We'll just make good with
what we've got.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
I said, but I would like for you to be
able to come up with some form of a solution,
I said, because I can tell you and you can
see we're all the same size. I don't know how
I'm going to do this for three nights, I said,
And you're telling me you've got no extra rooms to
even get an interconnecting room.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Because you're fully booked. I said.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
I can't get my money back. I said, because I'm
here and it's tonight, and there is nowhere else in
Sydney that I'm going to possibly find available, because eighty
thousand Queensland is here.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
And she was like, I'm just so sorry.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
I'll see if I can try and get a mattress
or something for you.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Mattress.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
I just went into like this really not a sulky,
but I was just like, I can't do anything about
it right now, Like I was trying to get myself
out of the negative mindset of like I wanted to
lose my shit, and then I was like, but it's
not going to serve me any purpose, and then they're
going to hate on me for three nights and probably
spit in our breakfast.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
In your head, you're probably also thinking the amount of
sleep we're going to get, we may as well sleep
down here on the floor.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
And also when I got to the room, I was
still trying to stay really composed, but like the kids
also like, okay, they're kids, Like it's like nine thirty.
They've had a massive day as much as I have,
and they're just edging on killing each other. As we're
getting to a room at nine point thirty, in my
head going I've got no solution. I don't want to
(07:41):
get angry at them because I get that they're feeling
that way because I'm feeling like that way and I
can't do anything about it.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
I've got one to fight with.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Then you've got three suitcases, one large double bed, and
a chair. In the corner of the room, and in
my head, I was like, no one fucking sleeps on that.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
There's not even a third towel.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
This actually might be a culture thing, Like I do
think maybe that there are some cultures or countries where
they do all just sleep in one bed. Because when
you just said about sleeping in a chair upright, I've
got a family member whose wife is Vietnamese. Yeah, and
(08:21):
family came over from Vietnam when they had a baby
and stayed for like a year and stayed for a year.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Age they have a spare.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Bedroom, but the parents, the Vietnamese parents stayed for a
year and slept in the lounge room with the TV
on in a chair upright, Like people sleep like that
for a Yeah, we don't know anyone that sleeps like that.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
I don't know anyone that sleeps like that.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
But also like I was trying, like three bags, no space,
three of us forgetting that my kids are now like
really mini humans, so it's not a lot of space
and three nights, it's still a fairly long time in
one room with one bathroom and three of us and
then one bed on top of that.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
I also like they're preteen preteen girls sharing a butt.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
I know what it's like sharing a bathroom. Ten we shared.
One of them will go to the bathroom and I'm like,
if you're doing another, just close the door.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Like I love you and you're on my offspring, but
I just close the door. I don't care to join
you in that. And then fast forward to the last night.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
We're in the bed.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Elsie and Gracie and I have had a very chill
afternoon because we were all exhausted from the night before,
late night game, all the rest. So we're just watching
lat movies, had room service, and then Elsie wants to
just lie on top of me, and I have this
moment where I'm like, just bask.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
In the moment. They won't want to do this belong,
you know.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
I think that's half of my brain. And then the
other half is I'm at night three.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
I've been in this room so.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
With the two of you just at me, and I
just am being super pressed and I just need some space.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
I just need some time. I just need something to disconnect.
I just turned around. I was like, I'm touching me.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Yeah, honestly, last night, right I got to the point
where I yelled at the dog. She's such a lovely dog,
like so much love to give, too much love to give.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
She was.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I was like, get the fuck of me.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
That's exactly how I felt, and that's exactly how I
wanted to yell.
