Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's one of the most highly anticipated films of twenty
twenty three, and now the Barbie Movie has finally landed
in cinemas. The starstuted flick featuring Australia's own Margot Robbie
and Hollywood heart Throbert Ryan Gosling, generating quite the buzz
ahead of its release in what some are dubbing Barbie Fever.
And it turns out.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
That's actually a thing the idea of Barbie in that
it's an emotional experience that most of us can identify with,
something that really unifies us as people. It's a social emotion.
It connects us, including across generations, which is really important.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
That's professor of psychology Deborah Rickwood from the University of
canber There. She says, the film has found a way
to connect it with our shared experience in connection with
the toy, no matter if you are a Barbie.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Gail or not, and probably a real association of getting
Barbies at Christmas for birthdays giving them to other people.
So there's both this sort of historical and this personal
nostalgia that really connects us and unifies as people and
probably particularly as women.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
And it seems the film's marketing team were well aware
of that, tapping into the glamour and nostalgia which surrounds
the iconic toy brand.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
The combination of these elements has been centied in creating
a compelling and engaging marketing strategy that I would say
reflects Barbie's evolution betimes and perhaps vitalizes the brand to
a large extent.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
That's marketing expert nobil Anisia from A and U. There
the response so big multiple previous screenings were sold out
before the film's official release, as hundreds of Cambarrens just
couldn't wait to see Margot Robbie embody the iconic character
brand so much.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I'm never emotionally recovering from this or so good A
squatching commentary on patriarchy, Guess who has not been to
the movies since nineteen ninety nine until tonight might.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Not take twenty years to actually get back. The film's
release comes on the same day as another hype flick,
with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer also hitting cinema screens. Brad Eaton
from Hoyts thinks we could be on track for the
biggest weekend at the box office this year.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
From A session perspective, we've had to put on extra
sessions in every cinema across the country. In some cases
they could be up to ten twelve sessions in the day.
