A Organização Internacional do Trabalho (OIT) estima que existam 152 milhões de crianças em situação de trabalho infantil, das quais 73 milhões realizam trabalhos perigosos. Em Portugal a situação já foi mais grave, mas o problema não está completamente resolvido e ainda há desafios a ultrapassar. E o que parecia ser uma tendência de redução em todo o mundo sofreu retrocessos em geografias como África. A Comunidade dos Países de Língua Oficial Portuguesa está atenta ao problema e tem articulado ações com a OIT que, reconhecendo a relevância do problema, dedicou este ano ao combate do trabalho infantil
