O Sistema de Vigilância Nutricional Infantil do Ministério da Saúde registou uma diminuição do excesso de peso entre as crianças portuguesas, tendo passado de uma prevalência de 37,9% em 2008 para 29,6% em 2019. Coordenado pelo Instituto Nacional de Saúde Ricardo Jorge, o relatório alerta, contudo, que este problema aumenta coma idade e que é nos Açores que encontra os seus piores indicadores, com um terço das crianças desta região autónoma a terem excesso de peso. O problema existe e há que alterar o ambiente obesogénico em volta dessas mesmas crianças para que as medidas tomadas sejam mais efetivas
