The late Doug Parkinson is a legend of the Australian music scene, as a powerful singer and musical theatre performer. He had been a popular charismatic performer for decades until his death in March 2021. He won 4 Australian Entertainment Mo Awards as Classic Rock Performer of the Year 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2003. He released 11 albums (8 studio, 2 Live, 1 Compilation). 2 Eps, and 30 singles with many charting, also many releases with various groups. He performed in musical theatre productions such as “Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; The Hunting of the Snark; Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story; Grease; Happy Days – The Arena Mega Musical and The Wizard of Oz. His hits Dear Prudence, Without You/Hair, I’ll Be Around and The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine (Anymore) still get radio airplay.

Mark Kennedy, drums was a member of Doug’s Southern Star Band along with Tommy Emmanuel, guitar, Keith Kerwin, bass/vocals, and the late Frank Esler-Smith, keyboards for the recording of the Perth 1979 album. Mark Kennedy, as a drummer, classically trained pianist and record producer,  has performed &/or recorded with various leading artists Gallery (1968), Spectrum (1969-70), King Harvest (1970), Doug Parkinson in Focus (1971), Leo de Castro & Friends (1971-73), Ayers Rock (1973-76), Marcia Hines (1976-83), Men At Work (1985), Renee Geyer (1985-86, 1995-96), Brian Cadd & Glenn Shorrock’s Blazing Salads (1993-94), Jimmy Barnes (2005) and James Southwell Band (2006-2014). His additional session musician work has also included Russel Morris, Jim Keays, Duran Duran and film/TV soundtracks for Spirit of the Maya and Seven Deadly Sins.

The album “Doug Parkinson Live at Gobbles Perth 1979” was recorded by sound engineer Arthur ‘AJ’ James. The album sales are fund raising for the Australian Road Crew Association (ARCA), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping ROAD CREW during hard times and serious illness through their welfare program. Many artists have generously given their permission for the release of the sound engineers’ desk tapes of their live performances that make up a diverse collection of some truly unique historical releases.
