Com ela se fez o slogan do Expresso: “Liberdade para Pensar”, sem amarras ao politicamente correcto, mas também sem nunca prescindir de uma defesa apaixonada pelos valores da Democracia.
Começou a defender um jornalismo livre ainda no tempo da ditadura e assim se manteve até ao ultimo dia da sua vida. Francisco Pinto Balsemão morreu no dia 21 de Outubro com 88 anos.
