Speaker 1 (00:22):
Hi, oh, let's go oh, let's go oh.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Let's go out the news Talk eleven ten or ninety
nine to three WBT. Brett Jensen here with you on
this rainy Monday night edition of Breaking with Brett Jensen
as we go up until seven o'clock tonight, telephone number
seven oh four five seven oh eleven ten. And by
the way, make sure you also text the WBT text line,
(00:52):
which is driven by Liberty Buick GMC at seven oh
four five seven eleven ten. Guys, make sure you follow
me on x at Brett score Jensen for all your
latest of breaking news in and around the Charlotte area.
All right, so, I hope everyone the I hope everyone
had a really good weekend. It was easy. He was relaxing.
(01:13):
It was a good weekend. It was actually a good weekend.
Friday night, as I told you as I did the
show from there. Friday night, I was at a political event.
There were like twenty three candidates or something like that,
twenty two candidates for Mecklimburg County that were there. They're
all running from municipal elections. And I got a chance
(01:37):
to meet people that I've never met, meet people i've
never even heard of. I mean, I'm sorry, I don't
know everyone running for town commissioning, Cornelius or mint Hill
for that matter, right, So, but there were again, so
it gave me a chance to meet all of them.
And it was like through the make JP And it
(01:59):
was at a house house, at a very nice, extremely
nice house. There was a lap pool in the house,
like a not outside, like a lap pool is something
that's much smaller than a swimming pool, like it's very
very small. But it was actually in the house, and
(02:20):
I believe the floors are made of marble. And it
was in an exquisite house. And I knew I was
in for something different, you know, not not the type
of places that I tend to hang out. Again, this
is a beautiful house. I walk in and the lovely
(02:40):
lady that lives there said, well, they're meeting downstairs. That's
where the lap pool is actually right beside the den,
but it said she said, would you like to take
the staircase, which was a grand staircase. Would you like
to take the staircase or would you like to take
the elevator? This is a house. And I didn't know
(03:03):
what to say to that. I sort of laughed a
labe said no, I can, I can take the I
can take the stairs. I was not expecting the elevator
part to be asked if I wanted to take an
elevator inside someone's house. But again, it's a beautiful I
believe what three story house, absolutely gorgeous. But I was
there and I got to meet a lot of the candidates,
and I spoke with quite a few people, and I
(03:28):
met with Sarah Chakra and he is the person running
against Christop McCary for Charlotte City Council on the Republican side.
It's the only Republican primary there is, it's the only one.
And he's going to be on the show on Thursday,
just so you know, So Sarah Sirih's going to be
(03:49):
on the show on Thursday. Also got a chance to
have some very long conversations with Edwin Peacock, who's currently
on the city Council as an appointee, but who will
be running for at large city Council this November as well.
(04:11):
Got to meet the woman running for mayor on the
Republican side against vy Lyles or whoever comes out of
the Democrats side. Got to meet all the people running
for school Board. I had met some of the people
running for school board. I had not met everyone running
for school board. So you get a chance to meet
all these people, whether it's Matthews, because it was like
(04:33):
Matthews and mint Hill and Cornelius and Huntersville and all
these people, right, So again, it was very interesting and
it was good to meet all these people and talk
to them, and look, a lot of these people fully
(04:57):
understand that it's an uphill battle. Cornelius not so much,
Huntersville not so much, Matthews not so much, mint Hill
not so much. Like Cornelias at mint Hill will be
easier than Huntersville and Matthews, but they all have chances
to do very well there school board, City Council. That's
(05:24):
a different story regardless of who wins between Christopher, Cary
and Sary in the in the primary, regardless of who wins,
that going into November is going to be a very
difficult road to hoe, very difficult. In fact, sorry, thanks Siri,
(05:52):
but in fact it's going to be so difficult that
you know, there's a belief that maybe all four Republicans
could win school board. The odds of that are exceptionally small,
exceptionally small but at the same point, there's belief and
(06:19):
a lot of these people realize that it's going to
be very difficult. Like of course, like Edwin Peacock knows
it's going to be extremely difficult. He know, and you know,
and look, and so is Terry Donovan who's running from mayor.
They know it's going to be difficult. They understand that,
so does James Bowers. They know it's going to be difficult.
(06:42):
And the only way you make in roads is if
you are out there at the churches, at the gatherings
and you're speaking to these people, whether they're Republicans, Democrats,
are unaffiliated, they know they have a lot of work
to do. If you are passive, well, if you just
(07:03):
get the Republicans out to vote, that's not how you're
going to have to win, like you, you have to
get unaffiliated to vote for you. That's where Tark McCarry
was masterful. Tart McCarry spent They spent five hundred thousand
dollars for city council race and won by three hundred
and twenty five votes. Now, granted, I believe his opponent
(07:24):
spent Stephanie Hand I believe spent two hundred and fifty thousand,
but even with all that one by three hundred twenty
five votes because they were out there like just as
they call it grassroots, what they mean is actual door knocking,
going to these places where people are going to be
and just talking to people and not just being there
every single day during early voting, which you have to
(07:47):
be and you have to try and have all the
polls covered specifically in your district or in your area
where people in your district will go vote. You have
to have that covered with your friends. And if you
don't have people at every single polling place voting place,
(08:07):
you're in trouble, specifically in your district. I'm not asking you,
or people aren't asking you to have if you live
in Valentine, to have a voting place up near un CC.
No one's asking for that because very very few people
that will be voting up there will be voting in
terms of what's related to your district. But these people
(08:32):
are very enthusiastic and that's a good thing, and they
know they know they have to work extremely hard. They
have to outwork their opponent because in many cases their opponent,
the Democrats, go, we live in a blue county. What
do we talk about. What do we got to worry about? Well, Okay,
(08:54):
Nevada flipped, didn't it? All those states of vota blue
last time flipped, didn't they? Just not even a year ago?
Right nine months ago? All those all those states that
voted blue voted red this time. So look, I know
(09:15):
the sol you're saying we've got a chance from the
old Dumb and Dumber movie, right, You're saying we've got
a chance. Well, there's a chance. There's a chance school
board could have two Republicans, three Republicans, and if lightning
strikes four Republicans, I don't think that'll happen. I think
(09:39):
in a perfect world, the best the Republican Republicans can
hook for are three maintaining Tark mccary's seat as a
Republican and maybe Edwin Peacock as the at large candidate
for city council. But they know And that was the
(10:03):
thing that I was that I took away the most.
And we're getting ready to go to paymin like two
seconds here, But the thing that I took away the
most from meeting all these candidates was the sheer optimism
and belief that they can actually do something, even though
the odds are going to be great because they know
they are in for a long fight and they believe
(10:24):
that they will put forth the effort. You can't half
asset and think you're gonna win, like you're gonna have
to be working sixteen hours a day, ten hours a
day period. On the back of breaking with Brett Jensen,
(10:45):
it is a rainy Monday night. By the way, I
got lots coming on tomorrow, including I believe, if I'm
not mistaken, Congressman Mark Harris I believe is coming on
the show tomorrow night. So we look forward to that.
All right. So CMS, A couple of things you heard about,
or maybe you didn't hear, but I'll assume you didn't
(11:08):
about a you know, there were shots fired at a
CMS event, I believe on Saturday, and there were like
around two hundred people there, and this woman was picked
up for shooting a gun trying to break up a
fight with her son apparently, but also just having to
be shooting a gun, whether her about two hundred people
for CMS events, Yeah, what could possibly go wrong? Let
(11:32):
me shoot a gun while there's two hundred people convening
for a CMS event, all right? So schools starting to
back up, and I want you to hear those report
from Queen City News about what's going on up in
Ironell County, especially with sports ACTI.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
School season is officially here and more school districts are
now in session this morning as the twenty twenty five
twenty six year begins. For North Carolina, Coberras County Public Schools, Irondale, States,
and Stanley County Schools, they're all back in session now. Meantime,
in South Carolina, Lancaster County is going to start a
staggered start to their school year. Only a couple grades
(12:10):
in that district return today. The rest will be back tomorrow.
You can find out about all the districts heading back
and when at qcnews dot com. Drivers, of course, advice
to watch out for those school buses in the morning
and in the afternoon, also teen drivers who are out
there and navigating to school for the first time now.
Some other districts are going to start back later on
(12:31):
this week, including Gaston, Lincoln, and Cleveland Counties. Up in
the mountains, we go ash Avery and Wataga Counties. You're
up next to start next week for Charlotte, Mecklenberg and
Union County.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Schools.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
They will begin the week of August twenty fifth. Well
in school district that's now in session is the ideal
Statesville School.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
District and this year's school leaders are also changing a
rule for fans going to athletic events.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
That's right, Queen City News anchor Will Lewis, is life
for us in Moresville outside of Lake Norman High School
and Will This change is all in response to moves
that were made last year. Plus the district is looking
for some additional help. What does that mean?
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Yeah, good morning to you, Annie, Jason and Julian. District
leaders told the board last week that they still need
teachers and some bus drivers now outside of the classroom.
Like we were saying, the bag policy is going to change.
You know, last year they weren't able to take bags
into the stadium. This year they will Now that bag
policy is a shift in the didn't because the district
(13:32):
said they received a lot of complaints last year. For
the twenty twenty four to twenty five year iredale. Statesville
Schools installed metal detectors at the stadiums and the fans
were not allowed to bring anything else in. Now, this
move was made to help get people in and out
of the stadium faster. But this year clear bags will
be allowed in but they must meet a specific guidelines
(13:55):
that includes clear backpacks, clear fanny packs, or a clear
cross body bag, just to name a few. And it's
similar to what you would see if you were going
to a pro sporting event. But as for staffing, the
staff tells board members they are working on it.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
They still are continued to hire. We are looking for
our EC positions. We do have a that number is
a little higher than we would want it, and so
we are looking at avenues of securing EC teachers. Also,
our classified positions are the number is higher as well.
To send the teacher assistant bus driver. So anyone who
(14:35):
wants to drive a bus and be a teacher, teacher
assistant police contact us.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Yeah, there was a lot of board members saying they
will try to contact us some other people they know
to drive the buses.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
And we saw a lot of buses.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Going here in and out of Lake Norman High School.
And I can tell you that bad policy that we
were talking about that does start immediately, and the first
football game that fans can go to carrying those clear
bags will be next week. We're live in Morrisville, will Lewis,
Queen City, Newton.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
All right, you know it's it's we're at the point now.
You know, it was a few year a couple of
years ago where they were having all these major issues,
major major issues at CMS games. Shocker, I know, I
know issues involving situations with CMS. I know it just
comes as a surprise to everyone because the school district
is a disaster. I mean, it's just it's it is
(15:29):
just no other way around. You can try and sugarcoat
at all you want, but how about all those events
that you were at, all those issues you're having at
sporting events, how about all that and just it's just
CMS is CMS. I mean, I don't know what to
tell you. I mean it is. I mean sharks, sharks
bite people, and CMS is a disaster. Like it's just
(15:51):
something you get to learn. You just know that you're
gonna have to deal with. If you go swimming in
the ocean, there's a chance you could you could get
bitten by shark or stung by jellyfish. And if you
go to see there's a chance that you can't read.
Just throwing it out there, and Brett, how can you
say that I've got stats. I got stats on my side,
So there's that. All right. When we come back, we'll
(16:12):
get into a couple other things, including schools. Some situations
going on up in Cambaris County that's actually very, very interesting,
and I promise you this would almost never happen at CMS.
Maybe other school districts, but not CMS. Again, welcome back
(16:51):
to Breaking with Brett Jensen on a Monday, going up
until seven o'clock tonight. All right, everyone, Uh so we
talked a little bit. What about you heard the last
segment about the Arradell County schools and all that stuff. Well,
listen to this. We'll listen to what's going on in Concord,
Cabarras County right as to Cabarts County schools. And I'm
(17:13):
just going to read this directly off of a local
TV station. There'd be SEC's. I'm just going to read it. Okay,
there's a new effort to protect students from being targeted
and groomed by adults. Okay, that's that's interesting. And look,
(17:42):
it's the first time that the Cabarat's County schools are
requiring students to watch safety awareness video of this kind.
Public school students will also have to watch anti grimming
videos as soon as they give back to school next week.
The video must be shown to students no more than
five days after the first day of school to students
grades six through twelve. Deos were created by the North
County Center for School Save Their Schools, which is the
(18:05):
North County State Bureau of Investor, which is in the
North County State Bureau of Investigation. So, I mean, that's
actually pretty cool. And I mean CMS may already be
doing this. I don't know if they are, but I
mean the fact that they're making a big deal out
of this, that Cabara's County is doing it, I can't
imagine many schools are doing this school districts. So I
(18:26):
do like that. Cabara's County Schools spokespersons said experience has
shown us that proactive actions by adults are far more
effective than relying on children to protect themselves from abuse.
It is equally important for children to receive accurate, age
appropriate information about the abuse, along with the assurance that
(18:49):
trusted adults will support and protect them. That's good. I
like that. I'm glad. I'm glad they're doing that. It's
sad that they have to do that. But I can
also tell you this story reached Yahoo News, and I
don't know who reads Yahoo News. I don't know anyone
who actually goes to Yahoo dot com. Wow, I mean
(19:12):
I still have I still have an old Yahoo emails.
Oh you use? Yeah, I do use. Oh I used
to use. What he said he uses Yahoo Sports or
reads it. I used to use. We used to have
fantasy football through Yahoo. Don't anymore, but we used to.
But yeah, it's it's like, I actually people who still
(19:36):
have AOL email addresses or hot Mail email addresses. Good lord,
those are twenty five years old now. Granted I had,
I haven't. I mean, we all had AOL email addresses
back in the day. Isaac didn't because Isaac doesn't even
know what AOL is. I mean, I'm not even trying
to be funny, Like I'm not even trying to be
(19:57):
funny here, but yeah, I mean, AOL wasn't a thing
when Isaac was like starting to be like thirteen fourteen, fifteen,
AOL wasn't a thing. Either was hot Mail Yahoo It
was around still then, and then then Google took over.
(20:19):
When Google became really really big around what in terms
of like the Gmail accounts the gmails because it like
it helped protect against viruses and they were like the
first ones to do that. So but yeah, anyways, but
I like the fact that their Camaras County is doing this.
It's sad that we have to do it, but you know,
(20:41):
I again, if this part of the State Bureau of Investigation,
then that's a good thing. But the fact that this
is on Yahoo News as well as like a local
TV station did it, that's uh, that's pretty good. That's
pretty good. All right. Look, when we I'm back for
(21:02):
two days last week, I talked about the Carolina Panthers.
When we come back, I'm going to give you some
professional insight from someone who was a sports reporter at
the highest levels in America for a long time, and
(21:23):
I'm going to tell you exactly what to take away.
I'm not going to break down the plays or the minutia.
I'm not doing all that, just your casual Carolina Panthers fan.
So if someone asks you about it, you can speak
with relative knowledge without having to go, well, the left
guard did this and the safety did that. Like no, no,
(21:45):
I'm not talking about that, just generalities and things to
take away from their game. Saturday night, excuse me, uh,
Friday night against Cleveland. So we'll talk about that again.
In generalities. We're not getting like into the weis or
anything like that, or as they say, behind baseball or
inside baseball or behind the curtain. We're not doing anything
(22:05):
of that, but we will get into I just want
to let you guys know from someone who did this
for a living for many, many years, what you should
take away. You shouldn't take away anything. It was a
preseason game. See, that's where you're wrong. That's where you
get in trouble. That's where you get in trouble. You
(22:43):
went back to breaking with Brett Jensen. All right, So
a couple of things that I want to get into.
Trump Patta press comes today, and I was flattered by
a lot of the things he had to say. So
we'll get into that momentarily. I was. I was truly flattered.
As a matter of fact, somebody reached out to me
and said, oh my god, I think Trump's talking about you.
(23:03):
I was like, oh, And I went back and I
found the press conference and I was like, I'll be
damn well. We'll get into that momentarily. By the way,
it was, it was during the press conference when he
was talking about taking back Washington d C and taking
control of the Washington d C Police. So we'll get
into that mid minute. So last on Friday night, carond
of Panthers played the Cleveland Browns. The reason this was
(23:24):
being watched nationally was because everyone wanted to see if
Shedor Sanders was gonna win the bed as the quarterback
for the Cleveland Browns. One of the touchdowns was a
gift wrapped to Shador like the first one that he had.
I believe after the fumbled punt by the Panthers that
gave him the ball like the ten yard line or whatever.
(23:44):
So I don't really count that you made a really
nice throw. But I mean, okay, it's not like he
drove seventy yards. He made one really nice throw on
that to get that first touchdown. But I'm not here
to talk about the call the Cleveland Browns. I really
don't care about the Cleveland Browns, and honestly nobody else
does either in this world. So but here locally people
(24:08):
care about the Carolina Panthers. Although real quick, I should
say I know people that are like hordes and hordes
of you Northern Ohioans. That came down to Charlotte that
are Cleveland Browns fans? Yeah, go stream in Cleveland Browns podcast.
Then just saying it anyways. Uh, but the Carolina Panthers
(24:33):
just generic stuff. So you can talk to your friends,
your family, co workers, whatever. The Carolina Panthers. The biggest
misconception about preseason games, and you can steal this, the
biggest misconception about preseason games as well as spring football
(24:55):
games practice football games in college when they have intersquads,
scrimmages in college and they're called spring football games. Is
that nothing. You can't derive anything from them. That's one
hundred percent not true. That's completely false. There are a
few things that you can take away, specifically, how does
(25:18):
the offensive line look, how does the defensive line look,
how does the quarterback look? Those three positions? And then
you know kickers like punter kickoffs. As a matter of fact,
the kickoff kicker for the Carolina Panthers was making the
rounds on social media this weekend because of the things
that he was able to do. And one of the
headlines is did the Carolina Panthers just break the kickoff role?
(25:43):
Because they implemented something that no other teams have done,
and they did it to perfection. The kicker for the
Carolina Panthers, but that's neither here nor there. So special
teams you can take away from that quarterback, offensive line,
defensive line, and when you're looking at things the offensive line,
(26:05):
are they just getting ran over by second string team,
second string defense or first team defense. Is the starting
offensive line for the Carolina Panthers getting run over? No,
Bryce Shung did a nice job driving them down the field.
The defensive front for the Karlunda Panthers defensive line, how
did they look against Shador Sanders? Didn't get as much
(26:25):
pressure as I would have liked to have seen. But
it's okay. I mean, it's not like the Cleveland Browns
have the greatest offensive line. We know that was one
of the biggest week spots of the Carolinta Pathers last
year was their defensive line. As a matter of fact,
it was one of the worst in the NFL. So
we'll see how much better they will get as the
preseason goes along and as a season one or game
one game two goes so, defensive line left a little
(26:49):
bit to breed be desired. All the touchdowns and everything
that happened after Bryce Young left is irrelevant. But Bryce
Young took the Panthers down the field and scored a touchdown.
How did Bryce Young look? He looked good, the passes
looked good. That is actually very relevant in preseason, preseason
(27:13):
football as well as college spring football games. It's very relevant.
Is the quarterback way off? Is he high? Is he low?
Is he in front of the receiver, behind the receiver
or whatever. Is the offensive line getting constantly blown up
or is it holding its own and the defensive line
isn't getting any pressure on the opposition or is it
just getting manhandled. Those are the three things that you
(27:35):
look at in preseason games. Running backs, receivers. Everything else
does not matter. Those are the things that in special teams.
So from that standpoint, yeah, Karaina, Panthers struggled to score
any points, it doesn't matter. Bryce Young played two series
and he scored a touchdown. One of them was a
long drive, so it almost looks like he picked up
(27:56):
maybe where he left off last year. And by the way,
I did notice this this weekend, not that anyone cares.
It was just a personal observation. Probably two thirds seventy
five percent of the teams this year, or two thirds
of the teams in preseason game one played their starting quarterbacks.
(28:16):
That hasn't happened in years years, and that would also
explain why every year, every single season over the last seven, eight, nine,
ten years, the offenses are really slow and bad for
the first month of the season because the quarterbacks would
never play in the preseason games. Well, guess what they're playing.
(28:38):
First teamers are playing. So that was good to see,
all right. So that just some quick quick things you
can talk to your friends about. Offensive line they're okay,
not great. Defensive line left a little bit to be desired.
Bryschong did exactly what you want Brychong to do. That's it.
Everything else is irrelevant, Okay. President Trump had a press
(28:58):
conference today and someone asked him a question, and all
of a sudden, I became the topic.
Speaker 5 (29:08):
I deal with Jensen, who is a great guy. Now
Jensen also has Jensen's a very brilliant guy.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
So there you go. Jensen's a great guy and Jensen's
a brilliant guy. I guess I'm gonna have to take
that and use that at a promo. I don't know.
I was flattered. I actually had someone text me of going,
oh my god, is Donald Trump talking about you? I
mean the person was being facetious when they said it,
but I was like, oh, who knew? I mean, you know,
(29:38):
I know I'm kind of a big deal locally. You know,
I don't know if you know who I am, but
I kind of have a big deal like that type
of thing. I promise you. I'm always actually genuinely surprised
when somebody knows my name like that. Actually catches me
off guard because I don't expect it. But there you go.
(29:59):
Man in the white hell. I was talking about Jensen
one more time, Isaac, can you do that board? In
all time?
Speaker 5 (30:03):
I deal with Jensen, who is a great guy. Now
Jensen also has Jensen's a very brilliant guy.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Jensen's a very brilliant guy. He does know me. He
does know me. Thanks, mister President. I appreciate that. All Right,
tomorrow we're gonna have Congressman Mark Harris on the show.
We'll talk to you then. My name is Brett Jenson.
You've been listening to Breaking with Brett Jenson.
