Tune in here to this Monday's edition of Breaking With Brett Jensen!

Breaking Brett Jensen kicks the show off by talking about the abrupt resignation of Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Christopher Allen and the serious allegations leveled against Sheriff Garry McFadden. Jensen reads the full resignation letter, in which Allen accuses McFadden of creating a toxic, abusive work environment, coercing staff, and prioritizing public image over ethical leadership. The letter paints a disturbing picture of internal dysfunction at the county’s largest law enforcement agency.

Jensen draws comparisons to a previous deputy chief’s departure, which he believes was a setup to discredit McFadden, and questions the motives behind publicly releasing resignation letters. While critical of some of McFadden’s policies—especially regarding ICE and juvenile detention

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Hi oh, let's go hi oh, let's go oh, Let's go.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Oh, let's come the news talk a lot of ten
and ninety nine three e WBT Brett Jenson here with
you on this Monday night edition of Breaking with Brett Jenson.
As we go up until seven o'clock tonight, tell phone
numbers to get in on the show seven oh four, five,
seven oh eleven, ten, And guys, make sure you follow
me on x at Brett Underscore Jensen for all the

(00:52):
lettuce and breaking news in and around the Charlotte area.
And we've got a lot that we're going to get
into tonight. We've got some stuff going on and Gasting County,
we got some stuff going on here in Mecimburg County.
We just got some stuff and we're going to start
off tonight with the Sheriff's office.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Okay, and.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Sheriff McFadden had his chief deputy number two in command
resign effective today's eighteenth, right, Isaac, Today's eighteenth yep, effective today, right?

Speaker 3 (01:35):
And well, I'm going to read you the letter and
then I'm going to give you some thoughts about it afterwards.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
But this is from Chief Deputy Christopher Allen, Sheriff McFadden.
I would like this letter to serve as my official
letter of resignation from the position of Chief Deputy of
the Melimberg County Sheriff's Office. After being under your leadership
for the last year, I have come to the realization
that your values and morals do not align with mine.

(02:06):
It troubles me to have to write this letter because
when I first met you, I had the utmost respect
for you as as the sheriff of the largest sheriff's
office in North Carolina. I'm not sure if that's true anymore.
It might be Wake County Sheriff McFadden. You painted a
picture of a great agency where employees were happy and
just needed a little guidance. I was excited for the

(02:29):
opportunity to make a difference and further my career. Unfortunately,
shortly after coming up board, I realized that the picture
you painted was not true and quite the opposite. During
my tenure at this agency, I have endured constant backstabbing, lies, disrespect,
and false narratives, all orchestrated by you in an attempt

(02:51):
to assassinate my character. The fact that you willingly coerced
other staff members to malign me in many ways greatly
contributed to my ability to no longer trust you. It
saddens me to say that I have been in law
enforcement for over twenty years and this last year that
I have served under your leadership has been the worst

(03:13):
year of my entire law enforcement career. I have endured
this hostile work environment created by you, suffering both mentally
and physically due to your abusive and narcissistic behaviors for
as long as I possibly can.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
You openly promote mental.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Health and advocate advocate for those in the community who
may be suffering, but you are the root cause of
many who suffer directly under your leadership. As a law
enforcement professional, I have never had to fight to do
what is right until I came to this agency as
a law enforcement supervisor. I have never been asked to

(03:49):
target employees under my supervision until I worked under your leadership.
My refusal to compromise my character, morals, and integrity to
comply with your demands caused me to suffer an onslaught
of harassment, hostility, and constant bullying from you, Sheriff McFadden.
I have witnessed you in the Mecclimbury County Sheriff's Office

(04:12):
for your own personal gain, to garner the support of
the community, demanding staff presents at many events to promote
your own agenda while taking them away from the little
family time that they have. Your mismanagement of the Sheriff's
Office and county resources would be considerate, less would be
considered put considerate, would be considered less than ethical or

(04:35):
professional in any organization, and I will no longer be
associated with that type of dysfunction, Sheriff McFadden. If the
community could actually see who you are, who you really
are when there are no cameras and audience for you
to entertain, they would see the true narcissists that you are.
I totally agree with former Chief Deputy Kevin Canty when

(04:57):
he stated that this agency as a culture that fosters
a toxic and abusive environment created by you. In our
last meeting, as I continue this, in our last meeting,
you doubled down on your suggestion that quote I fear
you end quote, that comment, which you have made on

(05:21):
several occasions, couldn't be further from any truth.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
I fear no one but God.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
However, I was raised to always have respect for my
elders you have dangled this position over my head for
the first day I arrived at the Melcamore County Sheriff's Office,
and now for the last time. There is no amount
of money worth the mental or verbal abuse that you
inflict upon your executive and command staff daily. I appreciate

(05:46):
those who have stood by me during this tumultuous journey.
I would not have made it to this one year
mark had it not been for the encouragement and support
from Chief young Blood and Chief Fields.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
I will continue to.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Pray for the McLamore County Sheriffs Office regards Chief Deputy
Christopher Allen is ten.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Forty two, meaning done okay. A couple of things. He mentioned.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
The previous chief deputy which I will go down until
my last breath on this planet, saying that that was
a fix on his part.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
That was a setup on his part. I should say.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
I will go down until my dying day. Remember he
had like that quote unquote audio that he actually presented
the audio with people and reporters who didn't do their
homework didn't realize that the audio was like many years old,
several years old, including.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Our favorite little reporter over there.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
At one of the stations, didn't do their homework, didn't
realize how old, and thought it was basically there. But
then he was forced to admit, yeah, I don't know
where that audio came from, and yeah, that audio has
been around for many years. You know why I knew
that because I'm the one that broke it many years
earlier with the audio. Anyways, So the previous, the previous

(07:21):
Chief Deputy that resigned, I put no faith in, no
stock in. He knew who he was getting into because
he was at the FFP and the FOP doesn't have
the greatest relationship with McFadden and the f and look,
so he went in knowing full well. And I think
it was a setup. I believe that with all my heart.
The previous, the previous Chief Deputy went in trying to

(07:41):
set up Garm McFadden. I will believe that until I leave.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Now.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
In terms of this particular situation, what I don't necessarily like.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
And I have a problem with. I mean, it's a
double edged sword.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Yeah, it's good for the media, but why are you
publishing your resignation letter. I mean, you're clearly trying to
gain attention, and you're clearly trying to make media outlets
know what's going on right clearly, and you're clearly upset

(08:23):
by everything.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
But my question is.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Why are you putting that out there almost simultaneously with.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Your actual letter to McFadden.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Like it seems as though there's a hidden agenda, And
maybe the agenda is to try and bring down McFadden
or embarrass McFadden, or.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Make people aware of what's going on.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Like I said, don't rely on the previous chief deputy
or deputy chief. Don't rely on the previous deputy chief,
because that what I believe with all my heart, that
was a set up and he did it on purpose. Well, bra,
you're just defending Gary McFadden. No, not even remotely close.
I couldn't disagree more with the way Gary McFadden handles ice.

(09:10):
I couldn't disagree more that Jail North, the Juvenile detention center,
has been closed.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
For many years. Couldn't disagree more on that.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
There are also a lot of good things that he's done,
like getting in programs for the inmates over there, so
when they leave the jail they have something that to
potentially fall back on and have a job waiting for them.
The reason most people return to jail is because they
can't get a job, so what do they do? They
revert back to crime. So like, there are a lot

(09:40):
of good things that he's done, obviously a lot of
very controversial things that he's done. I'm not quite sure
why you're putting this out to the media immediately, you know,
if it was like as a person in the media,
obviously you know it makes our job easier. But at

(10:05):
the same point, it just feels like there's something else
going on. And the first thing that I would do
if I were a reporter, why are.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
You giving this to me? That'd literally be the first question.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
I appreciate you reaching out to me, I appreciate you
handing it to me, but why are you doing this?
And in today's world, when it comes to media and
in this city, a lot of times those questions aren't asked.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
They don't look at the broad picture.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
They look at only what's in front of them. They're
only looking at micro. The micro is oh, my gosh,
I got this letter. They're not looking at the macro.
Why am I getting this letter? So I find that
interesting that they put it out there, that he put
it out there specifically, Like I said, the first one,

(11:05):
I will believe until the day I take my last
breath that was a setup. He tried to set up macfadden.
I will believe that. That is my own personal opinion.
But it just was very, very fishy. All the circumstances
this one. This one's different, this one's different. And the
sheriff said, by the way, I can't combine on it

(11:27):
because it's a personnel matter.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
And that's the easiest thing in the world for government officials,
whether it's CMS or CMPD or anyone else old or
now you know the City Arlotte trying to do things
behind closed doors, so you don't know where your taxpayers
are going to with the city council and the mayor.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Oh, it's a personnel matter, it's a personal No, it's not.
It was a law three.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
That was lawsuit that was threatened by Johnny Jennings.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Welcome back to breaking with Brett Jensen even ten.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Okay, So, and we're going to get into this in
great length and in very explicit detail on some stuff
going on in Gaston County with a lawsuit that was
filed against I believe the police department and all that.
We're going to get into that next segment, like we're

(12:40):
going to do some deep dives and let you know
that the shot Observer is living up to being the
shot observer.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
It is.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
At some point you have to start wondering, is the
shot Observer only being held alive on life support because
of George Sorows like seriously? Or were they getting handouts
from us AID like so many of the other media
outlets were that are hardcore left because, I mean, they

(13:22):
left out some key factors. But that's okay. I would
expect nothing less. So I mean, Isaac knows, I never waste.
There are a couple of things in life that you
don't you do not waste, and one of them is
taking a chance to examine.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
The shot observer. Like that's one of the things I
will do all day every day. My favorite people, my
favorite media outlet, Shot.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Observer L and the Raleigh News Observer and WRAL they're
right there with them. WRL is the big t stationed
up in Raleigh. And then we have our favorite reporter
here in Charlotte. I got her, so we got her
as well. But it's it's it is so maddening sometimes

(14:19):
and I am thankful that I have this media platform
to be able to try to explain things to you
in great detail, and where we can, I can spend
eight nine ten minutes really diving into things.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
And just really.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Explaining things to you, the nuances of why this is true,
why that's not true, especially when it comes to the media,
especially when it comes to the media, and especially here
in Charlotte, because you've got Megan Kelly and everyone else
telling you what a you know, what a crap show
the national media is. Do you know how many times

(15:00):
I've caught wind of other media outlets and reporters going, Brent,
why do you go after the local media because many
of them are just morons or they have agendas or whatever.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Whatever.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
I will never forget. We'll never forget. Tricia Cotham switches
from Republican to Democrat. I believe that was in April
of what twenty twenty two. I believe it was, yeah,
April twenty twenty two, like three four months, four months

(15:37):
after she got sworn in after being elected as a Democrat,
and a local TV station decides that they're going to
interview people in her district to ask what they think

(15:57):
about Tricia Cotham making the switch from Democrat to Republican
given the Republicans a super majority. Shockingly, the local TV
station only interviewed Democrats in that entire district, which is

(16:19):
about at the time, it was like, I don't know,
fifty eight fifty five to fifty eight percent Republican, fifty
five and forty five excuse me, fifty eight percent Democrat,
fifty five percent Democrat, and like forty five percent Republican,
and the only interviewed Democrats and every single one. And

(16:40):
I believe they were all minorities. I believe, if my
memory serves me correct, and if they weren't minorities, they
may have been women sometimes both, I do remember, sometimes both.
But they didn't interview a single Republican. How is that
fair report you're telling me? And I know who the

(17:02):
reporter is, and that should not shock anybody, But you're
telling me you couldn't find a single Republican and that
gargantuous house district, not one could have gone anywhere in
mint Hill, could have gone into Matthews, anywhere the two

(17:23):
towns that she represents. What are your thoughts? What are
your thoughts? Are you Republican, unaffiliated or Democrat? How do
you how do you how have you registered, and now
what are your thoughts?

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Oh no, oh no. So when something like that occurs.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
And it's just awful reporting, it's just it's just really
bad reporting.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
It is.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Because you're not doing what you're supposed to do. Clearly
was in an agenda. So okay, So when you do that,
I do this and I talk about it, so I
will let the people know what's going on locally, at
the state level, at the Charlotte level, other media outlets, whatever,

(18:15):
like I will be the first one to tell you
when I've screwed up. And Isaac knows I've done that
quite a few times in the show. I asked a
really really stupid question, or I did this, or I
got that wrong.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Whatever. We used to have something at the Sharlott Observer
called we were wrong.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
So let's just say they came out and they wrote
a big feature on Isaac saying that he likes to
eat puppies every day for breakfast. And then they would
come out and that would be on the front page
of the Sharlot Observer. And then when they had to
do something that's called a www, we were wrong, and
it would be like on page four buried in the
lower right hand corner with a little paragraph. We incorrectly

(18:54):
stated that Isaac likes to eat little puppies for breakfast.
He actually likes to eat celery and carrots like whatever.
But you wouldn't see the correction. You'd see the big
story of the front page, and then a couple of
days later you've seen that tiny little correction on like
page four or something. That's why I'm here and we're
gonna talk about Gaston when we return.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
I thought I ran into you down on the street.
Then it turned out.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
To only welcome back to breaking with Brett Jensen on
this Monday night. So it rained today. I believe it
rained Saturday night early Sunday morning. I want to say,
it's rained, what sixteen out of the last seventeen days.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
There's something insane like that.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
And we want to know why the temperature is ninety
two but the heat indexes one hundred and three because
of all the muggy in humidity. All right, Gastonian. There's
been a lawsuit filed in Gastonia, and it's going against
the City of Gastonian, and it's.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
Being filed on behalf of an attorney.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
For the mother of a twenty one year old black
man killed by Gastoni police officers in.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
Twenty twenty two.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
But the shot observer is making you believe that the
Gastoni police department is highly racist. That's the gist that
you get from reading their article. Here's the first paragraph.
Gastoni police logged nearly seven hundred incidents of use of
force over a decade long period.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Okay, a decade long period. Gastonia, as we know, has
been violent.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
I believe at one point, even in the late seventies,
Gastonia I think had the highest murder rate per capita
in the entire country, if I'm not mistaken. That's why
Gastonia had such a bad name was because of the violence.
For God's sakes, if all these murders and everything had
been going on in Monroe or Rutherton, they would have
had the exact same reputation, but they don't because it

(21:35):
was in Gastonia.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
What do you think it's got such a bad reputation
A bunch of clowns.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Anyways, Gastoni police logged nearly seven hundred incidents of use.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
Of force over a decade long period.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Just eight of those incidents, all of which involved white suspects,
were labeled as quote not justified. Just eight of those,
all of which involved white suspects, were labeled as not justified.
So even though they used use of force at the
seven hundred times, the ones that were labeled as not

(22:10):
appropriate only happened to white suspects.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
In July, Little John filed a lawsuit on the behalf
of the woman of the mother after her son was
fatally shot, alleging that they use their use of deadly
force was unlawful. This has no chance in holy hell
of standing up in a court, Okay. So one of

(22:42):
the things was he he filed the lawsuit under the
equal protection clause of the fourteenth Amendment, saying that the
police officers discriminated against the man because he's black, or.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
Just food for thought, or he tried to over all
the officers in his car one of the other. He's black,
so let's shoot him.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
Or he gets behind a car and tries to run
people over, like what, let's.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
Just flit hairs. Let's just flit hairs right, one of
the other. But he's black, Okay, all right.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
So anyways, so now they like they quote this guy
who's an expert and says that Gastine police appear to
be slightly trigger happy and whatever. Whatever, whatever, All right,
so here's the thing though, here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
The shot observer.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
Details the incident where the guy is running from police,
got in a car, backed out and like injured people
and pulled away and they fired like thirty shots and
they killed the dude.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
Right.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
Okay, maybe the thirty was a little overdone, but he
was pulling away. Now, what I want you to know,
I'm gonna see as I find this paragraph.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Here we go as lips come back out of the
parking spot.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
It was a driveway. I don't know why they won't
say that, but whatever, but you know where all the
cars were lined up. As let's come back out of
the parking spot. An officer tried to enter the cars
passenger seat and got knocked to the ground by the
car door. The lawsuit of Ledges, three other officers at
the scene began shooting Lipscomb as he drove away, fatally
wounding him. The officers shot a total of thirty five

(24:52):
rounds at Lipscomb, according to the lawsuit, which was filed
in the US Western District of North Carolina. Okay, uh, now,
I so you're You heard me read that paragraph, right,
You heard me read that paragraph that as he backed

(25:13):
out of the parking spot, and officer tried to enter
the car and the passenger seat and got not listen
to this now, got not to the ground by the
car door. Okay, that's in today's story by the shot Observer.
Let me read you the story from the shot Observer

(25:33):
the day after the incident happened.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
How about that? This is from the very same article
the Shot Observer. It says.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
In a twenty second video, there's actual video of this
from a ring camera. Jason Lipscomb's comes running from multiple
officers before entering a parked vehicle. Officers can be heard
shouting stop the car, get out of the car, but
does not exit the vehicle and proceeds to back up
and knock over an officer.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
Okay, knock over an officer.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
We just did that real quick right As lyskim atips
the driveway, officers poured out their weapons and shot into
the car. Officers performed CPR on Lipskmbath's shooting, but he
died at the scene.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
The very next paragraph, the officer was seriously injured and
taken to a hospital, but he's expected to be okay,
but he was seriously injured. When you are driving a
car at someone, that is considered use of a deadly weapon,

(26:37):
it's no different than having a knife or a bazooka,
same thing.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
The officer was seriously injured according to the shot observer's
own report.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
You read this new one, Oh no, you wouldn't know that.
You wouldn't know that the shot observer being the Shaw observer.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
Any agenda like this, they are going to be all
on board with all on board with Welcome back to

(27:32):
breaking with Brad Jensen on this muggy Monday night edition.

Speaker 3 (27:37):
As we go up until seven o'clock.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
A few more minutes here, so we got about four
minutes from now, we've got four minutes to go. Seven
oh four, five, seven oh eleven ten. By the way,
you can also text that Isaac's O of their manning
the WBT text line, which is brought to you by
Liberty Buick GMC.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Okay, So, Carolina Panther.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
Not exactly like a stellar performance, but again, as I've
been saying for twenty.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Years, don't worry about it.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
A lot of those people playing will be working at
Burger King next week and I know that's harsh. I know,
but they won't be with the Carolina Panthers. So well,
we'll see what happens. We'll see what happens, you know.
It's it's one of those things like I keep telling you,
just we'll see what happens on week one, Week two,

(28:33):
week three. There are like I went through this schedule,
there's only like, there are interesting games, but there's only
a few games at home that are gonna get the
fans really excited. The Dallas Cowboys come to town, which
means half the stadium will be Dallas Cowboy fans, because

(28:53):
all the Panther fans will sell their tickets and make
up damn near their entire worth of expenses on one game.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
If they spend I.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
Don't know, three hundred dollars a ticket, two hundred dollars
a ticket for a Panthers game, they'll sell them for
eight hundred dollars each, six hundred dollars each, Like they'll
make a lot of money. Then you got the Buffalo
Bills are coming to town. There will be a lot
of Buffalo Bills fans because a lot of those New
Yorkers have moved down here. So you're gonna have a
ton of Buffalo Bill fan here in the stadium. Same

(29:29):
thing with the Dallas Cowboys fans. And then the Miami
Dolphins come to town. I you know, they used to
have a big following, but they haven't been worth a
damn and god knows how long, twenty years, twenty five years,
So how much of a following will actually how many
of them will actually appear, I don't know. And then

(29:50):
you got Tampa, like they're interesting team, and as well
as the Atlanta fo because they're an interesting team, like,
those will be interesting games. They're not marquee. The Dallas
Cowboys and the Buffalo Bills. Those are the two marquee games.
Those are the two big ones. So if you've got
tickets and you're thinking about selling them, don't blame you
because you can get a lot of your money back

(30:11):
just off all just off of those two games.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
Don't blame you. One bet, not one bet. All Right,
So tomorrow we've got some things going on.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
CMS has having a press conference tomorrow before they're back
to school situation, So I'll be going to that.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
I'm not sure what all they're going to talk about.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
It, Like, here's basically how it goes, we have forty
seven teacher positions of that are vacant, and we have
fifty two bus driver positions that are vacant. And we've
got this and we like it's just gonna be running
the mill. We no longer have an attendance policy.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Okay, So I mean it'll just be stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
I've been to enough of these where I know what
to expect, and I'm not even sure if I'll even
ask a question. I don't even know. We'll see, well,
I just unless like something happens between now and then,
who knows. But like I said, I we'll see what happens.
Maybe something will come out interesting. Maybe they'll have zero

(31:15):
teacher vacancies, and maybe every single bus driver position.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
