Speaker 2 (00:10):
Heyten Ganesa here walking back to the building Better Humans
Project podcasts. This is yet another episode which has come
from well, I'm calling it listener content, but it's people
that have messaged me specifically with topics. As always, I
love your interaction, so thank you because it allows me
to shape the shows into what you're wanting to hear.
So if you want to have an impact or some

(00:32):
sort of input into the show, please reach out to
me or keep an eye on my socials, particularly Instagram
at Glenaesa, where I'll often put up an NG or link,
but you can always DM me, you can WhatsApp me,
you can email me. I'm very very easy to find online.
Today we're diving into what I think is a pretty
powerful trio, which is vision, values, and goal setting. Here's

(00:53):
the thing. Most people drift through life like. We know
that that they're busy, they're stress, they're working hard, but
they're not working towards something that truly matters to them.
And that's because they've never clearly defined their vision, connected
it to their values or set goals that align with both.
The result, of course, is you end up climbing a
ladder of success only to realize it's been leaning against

(01:14):
the wrong war. But when you connect your vision with
your values and then build goals from that foundation, everything changes.
You stop living by default and you start living by design.
Now this episode has brought to you by Adventure Professionals.
When you join us on any adventure Kakoda Kille, Everyspace Camp,
Aussie ten Peaks, Dogs Leading in the Yukon, you'll gain

(01:37):
clarity on your vision and values in ways that can't
happen in a boardroom or a workshop, because nature strips
back the noise and forces you to reconnect with what's important.
Find out more at www dot Adventure Professionals dot com
dot au. Now let's talk about why vision matters. Your
vision is your north star. It's the picture of the

(01:58):
life you want to live, the impact you want to have,
and the person that you want to become. Without a vision,
your reaction. You're chasing distractions, you're doing what everyone else
thinks you should do. But when you have a clear vision,
you have direction. And here's the secret. Your vision doesn't
need to be perfect, it doesn't need to be final.

(02:18):
You're allowed to change things. It just needs to be
big enough to pull you forward. So ask yourself. If
I could design my life without limits, what would that
look like to me? Because that's ultimately your vision. Now,
a vision without values is quite dangerous because you might
chase success, but that doesn't actually fulfill you. And that

(02:40):
happens sometimes people see a thing, they think they want
a thing, and they chase after it. When they get
the thing, oh it wasn't really what I thought it
was going to be. Your values become your compass. They're
the things that matter most to you. The principles that
you want to live by. For me, values, leadership, integrity,
and growth are non negotiables. If an opportunity doesn't align

(03:00):
with those, I say no, no matter how shiny it looks.
Wasn't always a case. There are plenty of timeshe I've
taste the shiny thing or the opportunity, or I thought
that sounded exciting. But these days I like to look
at things a little bit deeper. I've seen people build
businesses that make plenty of money, but they're miserable because
they violated their own values along the way. Don't let

(03:22):
that be. You align your vision with your values and
success will feel like success. And that's really important. Once
you know your vision and values. Then comes goal setting.
Here's the mistake that most people make. They set goals
without context. I want to lose ten kgs, I want
to make more money. If those goals aren't linked to
your vision and values in theory, most of the time

(03:45):
they don't stick. Now there's things like smart goals, which
are specific, measurable achieve or relevant time bound. They're useful,
but only if they're built on the right foundation. Example,
if your value is health and your vision is to
live long enough to see your grandkids grow up, they're
losing ten kgs. Isn't just a goal, it's an act
of alignment. It has meaning, and meaning drives motivation. I'll

(04:09):
give you a personal story. When I left the Army,
I didn't have a really clear vision at first. I
just knew that I didn't want to drift. So I
sat down and asked myself, what kind of man do
I want to be? What impact do I want to have?
And not just overnight, but over time it led me
to building adventure professionals. It led to this podcast. It
led to our youth development programs bro camp Ayala. It

(04:32):
led to what we now call wantoc House, which I'll
talk more about I'm sure down the track, all of
it comes back to my vision of building better humans,
and then my values of service, leadership, and growth, and
every goal I set fits inside that framework. That's why
when challenges come, and they always come, I keep moving

(04:53):
forward because I know what I'm building and I know
why it matters to me. So let's break this into
steps that you can apply today. Step one, define your
vision yourself. If money, time, and fear weren't factors, what
life would I build? And then write it down. Step two,
clarify your values. List your top five values, whether it's health, family, integrity, freedom, growth, service,

(05:20):
whatever is true for you. When you do my twelve
week Design your Life program, we have a whole values
workshop that's just built around how to find your values.
So that's something that you would find very interesting and
very useful, just that one piece alone. Step three. Align
your goals. Take one hour of your life, health, career, relationships,

(05:40):
whatever that might be, and then set one goal that
aligns with your vision and values. Step four, I want
you to review that regularly. Your vision evolves as you evolve,
review your goals every ninety days and make sure they
still align. Again, this is inside my twelve week Design
your Life Program the ninety day thing. When vision, values

(06:00):
and goals align, your life has direction, meaning, and more
importantly or importantly, momentum. So here's a challenge for you.
Write down your top five values, write a one paragraph
vision of the life that you want to live, and
that set one goal a week going forward that aligns
with both. Remember, this isn't about creating a teen year plan.

(06:24):
It's about starting with clarity and building from there. Now,
typically at this point of the podcast team, I talk
about my programs, my adventures, my different ways that you
can get involved with me. But I thought what I'd
do this week Because quite a few new people have
signed up to some of the programs, and I've had
some reviews from people finishing programs, I thought I would
share it with you a little bit. So this one's

(06:46):
for the twelve week Design your Life program from Sarah,
and she just tied of this clarity, confidence and direction.
She said, I joined the twelve week Design your Life
program at a point where I felt stuck, successful on
paper but directionless inside. Within weeks, Glenn's process has helped
me to reconnect with what actually matters to me. The
structure forced me to stop living reactively and start designing intentionally.

(07:07):
The weekly reflections, accountability, and Glenn's no fluff coaching style
helped me to rebuild my confidence and make decisions I've
been avoiding for years. By the end, I'd written vision clear.
Daily habits are most importantly momentum. It's honestly one of
the best investments I've ever made in myself. Thanks Sarah
for that. This one is for the twenty eight day
Habit Builder from James. He titled this just Small Daily

(07:29):
wins changed everything. He said, I've done a lot of
self improvement programs, but the twenty eight Day Habit Builder
was different. It was simple, actionable and real. Glenn doesn't
talk theory. He gets you moving from day one. I
started with the goal of creating a morning routine, and
by the end of the month, I wasn't just doing that,
I'd built discipline across every air of my life. The

(07:50):
daily prompts and accountability made me realize how much consistency
matters more than motivation. Four weeks later, I feel sharper,
more focused, and way more in control. Good on you, James.
Now this one here is Oh there's more here, but
I'm going to take you through on for the two
year Adventure Leader mentorship. And this was from Maddie and
he just said, I came into the eventual Leader mentorship

(08:12):
thinking I'd learned how to run better expeditions. What I
actually learned was how to lead myself and others at
the deepest level. Over this period of time, Glenn has
guided us through physical challenges, leadership immersions, mindset work that
pushed me far beyond my comfort zone. I've learned to
communicate better, managed teams under stress, and build programs that
change people's lives. The community accountability growth were next level.

(08:33):
I'm now leading trecks across P and G and mentoring youth,
something I never imagined before. This program didn't just make
me a better leader, it made me a better man.
And Maddie, you know I work one on one with
all of my Adventure Leader people. It is a two
year mentorship but is a big investment. But Mattie, you
have really smashed it out of the park and it's
really good to watch. You're doing what you're doing separate

(08:54):
to me. So let's get back to this episode. I
want to finish by saying this, don't just set goals
build a vision, live by your values, and then let
your goals be the steps to get you there. O team,
this is Nanasa. This is the Building Better Humans Project podcast,
as always brought to you by Adventure Professionals www. Dot
Adventure Professionals dot com dot au. Until next time, get clear,

(09:16):
get aligned, and keep building a better you.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
