Hey, team Gnaies are here. Welcome back to the Building
bet Humans Project podcast. Say. I want to unpack something
that influences every decision we make, every relationship we build,
every goal that we chase, even if we're not fully
conscious of it. And we're talking about the core human needs,
both physical and psychological, because once you understand these, you'll
start to see the why behind everything, your actions, your habits,
(00:32):
your triggers, and your patterns. So let's break it down.
The core human needs at the most basic level are
these fundamental things that we can't live without. And these
are universal air, water, food, shelter, sleep, and safety. Without these,
nothing else matters. Our survival system will kick in. But
once those are met, we move up a level to
something even more interesting, our psychological needs. This is where growth, purpose,
(00:57):
and fulfillment start to live. So the six core human
psychological needs, and this comes from Tony Robin's framework, which
is by Maslow Young and others. These six needs shape
how we behave, how we connect, how we succeed, or
how we sabotage ourselves. So number one is certainty. We
need to feel safe, secure, and in control. It's why
(01:19):
we crave routine, stability, and knowing what's coming next. Number
two is variety. At the same time, we need change, challenge,
and surprise because too much certainty becomes boredom. We need both,
a dance between structure and spontaneating. Three is significance. We
need to feel important to know we matter. People chase
(01:40):
this through success, achievements, and status, or even through drama
and conflict. Four is love and connection. We're wired to
belong to feel seen, understood, and valued. Will do almost
anything to avoid feeling disconnected, even if it means compromising
who we are. Number five is growth. If you're not growing,
you're dying. It's as simple as that. Progress is the
(02:01):
heartbeat of fulfillment. Whether it's mentally, emotionally, physical, spiritually, we
need to evolve. And number six is contribution. We want
to give back, to serve something greater than ourselves because
legacy matters, impact matters, and contribution gives our success meaning.
But here's the kicker. We all value these needs differently.
(02:23):
Some chase certainty, others chase growth. Some are driven by connection,
others by significance, and the way we meet these needs
can be positive, neutral, or even destructive. For example, You
can meet your needs for significance by building a business
or by tearing someone else down. You can find love
through connection or manipulate it through guilt and control. Understanding
(02:45):
how you meet your needs is the game changer. So
what do you do with this? Well? Number One, you
get honest with yourself. Which needs drive you the most
right now? Are you chasing significance over connection or certainty overgrowth?
To ordit how you meet those needs? Are you choosing
empowering methods or quick fixed strategy that hurt you long term?
(03:06):
And three, start making shifts. Align your goals, habits, and
relationships with healthy strategies that meet your needs in sustainable ways.
At the end of the day, we're all driven by
the same needs. The difference is how we try to
meet them. And when you understand this in yourself and
in others, you're unlock a whole new level of empathy, clarity,
(03:28):
and power. So ask yourself today, what needs am my prioritizing?
Am I meeting them in ways that build me up
or break me down? Because when you master your needs,
you start building a life that just doesn't look good,
it feels good.
