S1 (00:00):
Welcome to business and the podcast for people making it
all happen. Running a successful business completely takes over your life,
but I'm a believer that there is still room for
some ands like health, wealth, beauty, and maybe even some fashion.
On this podcast, I'll share with you what's working for
scaling my nine figure business while keeping you up to
date on the latest trends, news and fun finds. This

(00:23):
is a place for business and let's dive in!

S2 (00:26):
Welcome back to business, and let's talk about leveling up
some of my favorite and most cherished, and also most
eye opening experiences have been in the moments when I've
been able to observe, like the stalker, that I am
really successful people. I try to see what they do,

(00:47):
how they spend their time, the decisions that they make.
And I take notes and I remember and I recall
these things because it's so easy to just not pay
attention and it's so easy to think, oh, they're just special,
but what do they do that actually makes them special?
I spent a good amount of time with multi millionaires

(01:07):
and billionaires, and let me tell you, there is a
difference in how they operate. So let's dive in.

S3 (01:13):
Rule number one is to avoid the trap of competence.
People who are successful at the highest levels understand this principle.
They never become complacent with what they already know and
what they've already done. They are constantly living in. What
skill do I need to acquire right now in order
to keep my edge? Because the game never stops moving,
and there's constantly new things that are coming into play

(01:36):
to allow somebody to get an edge. So really successful
people never assume that they're going to be able to
keep their edge. They are constantly reinventing themselves, constantly looking
for new skills, constantly asking themselves, what do I need
to learn in order to take myself and my business
to the next level? As a business owner, it's important
to stay away from this mental addiction of being needed

(01:59):
to approve things, to make decisions to share your point
of view. Because if you know what you know and
you are confident in what you know, you shouldn't continue
to do what you know. Somebody should be trained on
how to do that so that you can have enough
time to do what nobody else can do, that only
you can figure out inside your business. Remember that once
you have mastered a skill, you need to stop proving

(02:21):
that you are the master at it. Move on to
the next skill that you have to learn to take
the next step in order to level up your life
and your income. Next is rule number two. Your time
is everything. Billionaires spend their time in the most strategic
ways possible. They spend their time acquiring assets, improving their skills,
and setting the vision for the people around them. The

(02:43):
difference that I've noticed between the millionaires I've spent time
with versus the billionaires I've spent time with, the millionaires
are able to think a few steps ahead, and they
are focused on what they're doing right now in order
to get themselves to the next level. But billionaires live
in the future. They aren't talking about right now or
the next couple of months, or even the next couple
of quarters. They're thinking years in advance. They're preparing themselves

(03:06):
for the future. They're trying to understand where's the world
going so that I can be ahead of it and
maybe even create the future. You see, if you're focused
on creating the future, you're not stuck in today's problems.
You're not going home and telling your significant other how
hard your day was and filling them in on all
the things that happened to you, because that is in
the past. So why waste your present moments talking about

(03:27):
what's happened in the past? See, that's not what billionaires do.
They are so obsessed with the future trends and creating
what the world is going to look like. This is
why I find that they end up watching the news,
understanding what's going on in the economy, looking into governments.
Have you ever thought about why successful people pay attention
to politics? Why unsuccessful people have no idea what's going on.
It's because these laws and the people who make these

(03:48):
laws matter and dictate the future. So if you're trying
to create opportunities for the future, it would be very
important to understand who is creating those things now and
how do you influence those people now in order to
get to where you're trying to go. This is why
many billionaires end up actually getting in politics or trying
to have an influence in politics, because they understand this game.

(04:09):
And the game is this how can I help influence
the future in a direction that I want it to go?
When it comes to business owners that I work with
each and every day, one of the main things that
I focus on with them is getting them clear on
their vision. Because if you don't have a vision inside
your business, it's going to be so difficult for you
to get your future team to believe in what you're

(04:30):
doing today because you're not creating the future. So if
you want the same resource that I use to help
thousands of business owners create their vision inside their business,
go to my Instagram at Natalie Dawson, send me a
DM that says vision and I'll send it over your way.
Number three is next. Competition is everything. There is nothing
wrong with competition, and I firmly believe that women today

(04:52):
are being completely brainwashed by the saying collaborate, don't compete. Now,
don't get me wrong, collaboration is vital. There is nobody
who can do anything successful by themselves. You have to
collaborate with people. But let's not pit collaboration against competition.
You can do both at the same time, and the
billionaires that I know are the most competitive people I

(05:14):
have ever met. They want to win at everything. What's
the best way to get somebody to think that they
can't do something? Tell them that it's silly for them
to try to compete, so then they're not even going
to enter the race. Competition is important. Successful people know
that competition is important, so don't kid yourself by thinking
that you shouldn't compete with people. Now, I am very
much a proponent of the biggest competition that you will

(05:35):
ever be in is the competition of who you were
the day before. You should always be competing against yourself.
You and what you've done up until this point is
the bar. But there are other people that you can
look to, and you can compete with them without ever
having met them. I was at a fashion show recently,
and I was talking to this fabulous woman who's in
the front row, and she's decked out to the nines.

(05:56):
I asked her what she does, and she was telling
me all about this sailboat business and that they are
currently building the world's longest sailboat, and the owner wants
it to be one meter longer than Jeff Bezos, which
would make it the largest sailboat in the world. So
if you're going to sit here and say that competition
isn't important, you are going to deny the fact that

(06:19):
the people who are playing the biggest games on this
planet are constantly in competition with each other. And guess what?
It makes them better. It gives them an edge. So
never let anybody convince you that you shouldn't be competing.
So how do you make this tactical? Pick somebody to
compete with. Now, I don't care who you pick to
compete with. Sometimes it's really inspiring to pick somebody who

(06:39):
is 100 steps ahead of you so that you really
put the energy in that's required in order to get there.
Other people like to pick somebody who's 2 or 3
steps ahead to just get enough inspiration to make small
progress in order to get to their goals, regardless of
which path you choose. Pick a target and go after it.
Rule number four. Sometimes it's necessary to remove access to yourself.

(07:01):
You want to go to dinner? No. Do you want
to have happy hour? No. Can I pick your brain? No.
Billionaires learn to say no. Because in order to be
great at one thing, you have to say no to
everything else, even the good things. And this is one
of the hard lessons that I've learned. Which is? You
have to say no before someone asks. It's easy to

(07:23):
say yes when someone asks you to do something or
review something in the moment, because you have nothing else
to do but setting boundaries before they get the chance.
By blocking your calendar is one way that helps make
it easier to say no. If you have a bunch
of free time on your calendar, you're gonna say yes
to everything because you're gonna feel bad when you say
no because you know you don't have anything else to do.

(07:45):
You're looking for ways to fill your time. The reverse
is a much easier way to become successful. Make your
calendar so full that when you say no, you mean
it because you have important shit that you have to
do now, you are literally unavailable. As much as you
want to spend time with people as much as you
want to hang out or watch television or waste your

(08:07):
time in whatever myriad of ways are possible, you can't
because you already have commitments. You have to focus on
building your environment today to match the person that you
want to be. When looking at your calendar, set your
priorities based off of the next level of the person
that you want to become. Don't think about what your
current life demands, what the people in your life demand.

(08:29):
Ask yourself this how would Future Me's calendar look? Last
is number five. Stop reacting. This is the biggest difference
between successful and non-successful people, and the even bigger difference
between the somewhat successful versus the ultra successful. The more
you are able to create your environment, the more success

(08:51):
you will have. I have watched down to the smallest
little details that billionaires will pay attention to and fix
and tweak in order for something to be exactly how
they want it. One of my favorite examples is Grant Cardone.
Grant Cardone. When he is ordering a coffee, will not
accept the coffee unless it has the exact amount of

(09:11):
foam that he wants at the exact temperature that he
wants it. With the perfect amount of espresso and anything
short of exactly what he wants, he will send it back.
And at first people get judgmental about this. They hear
this and they think, oh, he should lower his expectations.
Does it really matter if the coffee isn't perfect, if
it's a little bit too warm, if there's not enough foam? Yes,
it does matter because his ability to create his environment

(09:34):
so that it fits what he wants is him not
adjusting his expectations for anything. If you approach how you
drink your coffee with a level of seriousness, you're also
going to approach every detail inside your business, inside your health,
inside your relationships, every area that's important with that same
attention to detail, when you start becoming reasonable is when
you stop pursuing success. So the details do matter, and

(09:58):
the details in your environment are something that you can
control whatever room you were showing up in, whatever relationship
you have, how do you create your own ideal scene?
You don't have to conform to what anyone's expectations are,
but you have to be clear enough and have enough.
Confront in any situation that you can decide what you

(10:19):
want and only get exactly that. Nothing short. And when
you do that, you are taking the steps required to
become successful.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
