S3 (00:43):
Hey everybody, welcome to Cannabis Enlightened. This is Doctor Leroy,
and today we are going on a special journey to
the community for 420. And we're going to be talking
with several guests Guest that will be at the garden
and will be partaking of some cannabis treats. Sponsored provided
(01:08):
by Martin Ash. And you are hearing this through the talented,
the talented fingers and skills of oldest media JC and Lena,
thank you very much for helping to make this possible.
Stay tuned for the guest that you'll hear today. So
(01:31):
first interview today is with Danny. Danny, you are one
of the coordinators of this event. And this is kind
of like your brainchild, am I correct?
S4 (01:42):
Yeah. You're correct.
S3 (01:43):
Okay, so you're Danny. Tell us a little bit about
who you are and what you're all about.
S4 (01:49):
I live here in Mount Hope, and we've lived here since, like,
the end of 2008. Okay. Um, we bought a place here,
and I've gotten to know the community. Little by little,
every day in the last year or so, I've really
gotten to know this garden, this Mount Hope Community Garden. Um,
(02:10):
I've been able to spend a lot of time here, like,
just because it's a couple blocks from my house, I've
been able to talk with Diane Moss, and I started
DJing events for her.
S3 (02:23):
And you're DJing today?
S4 (02:24):
Yes, I am DJing today.
S3 (02:26):
Okay.
S4 (02:27):
Um, I thought, why not?
S3 (02:30):
What made you think about doing an event or for
20 event? Event at the garden? Well.
S4 (02:40):
The thing that made me think of it is like,
every time I'm here, like, I just feel good. Like
it's a good space. And like, when I smoke or
consume cannabis, I feel good. And, you know, it's landed
on 420 and, you know, people like this garden. didn't,
but I thought, this is a great space. Why not celebrate? Uh,
(03:03):
420 here at this garden. Uh, you know, it's a
cool space. Um, you know, 420 is a stoner holiday.
Why not celebrate it? Why not have a good time?
Why not get a couple DJs together? Um, play some
good music, have a good time, enjoy some cannabis. All
(03:24):
of us together. Um, and, you know, maybe take some
time to enjoy the music and also get to know
each other a little bit. Um, I thought it'd be
a cool idea. And a lot of people seem to
agree with me. And here we are.
S3 (03:35):
How long have you been celebrating? For 20. Uh.
S4 (03:40):
I guess since my early 20s.
S3 (03:41):
Okay. So just a couple of years? Yeah.
S4 (03:45):
A year or two.
S3 (03:46):
A year or two. Yeah.
S4 (03:48):
You know, but.
S3 (03:49):
Okay. What what is going to happen today?
S4 (03:53):
Well, today, um, hopefully we're going to have a good time.
I know we're, uh. We're gonna play some great music. Um,
I know we're going to enjoy, uh, some cannabis. We
have an egg hunt planned. Um, and those that participate
in the egg hunt and, uh, find the eggs, uh,
(04:14):
will be rewarded with cannabis, which is donated, uh, graciously
by Martin Ash, which I was very pleasantly surprised to
hear and see. Like, I think it's cool as f like,
I think it's really rad. And I, I don't know,
I hope it leads to like, more like community involvement. Like,
(04:34):
you know, hopefully this like the first of many, not
necessarily for 20, but just like celebrations, um, of like
minded people coming together. I think it's important, especially now.
S3 (04:46):
Well, thank you very much. Uh, Danny, appreciate you. I
appreciate your energy. I appreciate you putting this event together
and giving March and Ash an opportunity to get involved
in the community. Thank you very much. I'm looking forward
to hearing a lot more of your music that you'll
play today.
S4 (05:02):
Well, great. Thank you so much. Um, I appreciate that
you're here. Thank you again.
S3 (05:07):
All right. And we have, um, our second guest that
are here and a DJ. And both of them, they're couples.
And they walked in with, uh, t shirts on that says,
Holy smoke, holy smoke. And would you introduce yourselves?
S5 (05:25):
My name is Ariel Corsair.
S6 (05:27):
I'm Lisa Corsair.
S3 (05:28):
And what what brings you to here?
S5 (05:32):
Oh, my gosh, this is just a wonderful event. It
just so happens to be on 420 and Easter Sunday. And, uh,
to be quite honest, um, I wasn't originally a part
of this event, but, uh, through, uh, I guess some
local community work that we were doing. Uh, one of
the DJs heard my set and he says, oh my gosh,
(05:54):
I love the way you play. And, uh, so he
wanted to include me on this event as well. And, uh,
we have a history with the garden and with Miss
Diane Moss as well. When she first opened up the garden, uh,
we have our our business is House Gone Wild International.
And we do events all over, um, all over period. Yeah. And, um,
(06:19):
we were we had approached Miss Diane Moss and wanted
to do, like, an open community event right here at, uh,
at the garden. And so we called it the Garden Jam.
And not only will we play music, but it was free,
open to everybody in the community. And, uh, you know,
we would have, uh, tables out. People were playing dominoes
(06:41):
and people playing, you know. Yeah, we had music. Wow. DJ.
We had live performances as well. And, uh, it was
just a way. And, oh, I would bring my drums like,
I brought some drums today. Musical instruments. Okay. And I
would encourage others to come out as well, you know.
And uh, the first event that we had, like my
(07:01):
wife said we do, we had live events incorporated into
them as well. And, um, we had everybody loves line dancing. So,
you know.
S3 (07:09):
Oh my gosh.
S5 (07:10):
Yeah. There's a fantastic line dancing group local and, um.
S3 (07:14):
And and you, you all are not from San Diego? No.
Where are you from originally?
S5 (07:20):
Yeah, we're from New York.
S3 (07:20):
New York? Yeah. And how long have you been here
in San Diego?
S6 (07:23):
13 years.
S5 (07:24):
13.
S3 (07:24):
13. You didn't think it was that long?
S6 (07:27):
It was 13. Excuse me.
S3 (07:31):
Okay. Okay. Well, great. It's great. And how long have
you been celebrating? For 20.
S5 (07:38):
Oh, wow. This is probably one of the first, to
be quite honest with you.
S6 (07:42):
First event?
S5 (07:43):
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Really. You know. Yeah, we just, um.
It comes, it goes. It wasn't anything like. It just
so happens that it fell on such a fantastic day
fell on a Sunday. It didn't even have to be
Easter Sunday, but just Sunday. Sunday as well. Yeah, Easter
Sunday is just, you know, icing. But, uh, you know,
it it gave us the opportunity and to kind of
(08:08):
have an event or participate in an event that was
a little bit more, uh, more personal, you know, it
wasn't so commercialized.
S6 (08:19):
It's more grounded. Grounded with Earth.
S5 (08:21):
Yeah.
S6 (08:21):
It's a day like today. I mean, spiritually speaking. Mhm.
It's the perfect time to come out and celebrate, you know.
S5 (08:28):
Amen. In the garden, you know, celebrating the good, uh,
weed that comes from the garden.
S3 (08:33):
Okay. Okay. Alright. Fantastic.
S6 (08:36):
And the resurrection of our Lord. And the reason this
is all about. That's right.
S5 (08:43):
That's right.
S3 (08:44):
Well, we appreciate I appreciate you spending a little time
with me here today. And by all means, enjoy the
garden and the cannabis, and maybe we'll come back to
you a little bit later on and looking forward to
hearing your your DJ music in a little bit.
S5 (08:59):
Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Looking forward to it. Beautiful set. Yeah.
S3 (09:02):
All right. Well, thank both of you.
S6 (09:04):
Thank you.
S3 (09:04):
Both. And we have another guest with us today. Lou. Lou. Lou.
Could you. Well, Lou, what brings you here to the
garden today? Uh, my brother is on.
S7 (09:18):
The Mount Hope community Board as vice chair, but I
grew up here since 73. So this garden was not
a garden when I was growing up. But now I
haven't seen it flourish and bloom. So now I'm here
to show my support. As I was a little kid,
seeing this whole community come up.
S3 (09:38):
Okay. And and what what do you think about for
20 or how long have you had been celebrating?
S7 (09:44):
I've been I've been a long time smoker. Now that
I have a good job that, uh, unfortunately, I can't,
get in with them, but that don't mean I don't
support it. I'm all down with it if you do
what you do. But unfortunately, you have to prioritize and say,
my job allows me to live good and do good.
(10:06):
But unfortunately I get I'm under a strict regulations because
I work for the FAA. Okay, so therefore I said
I need to prioritize, uh, and uh, do for my family.
But I love the fact that, hey, if y'all cool
with it, y'all can blow because I blew longer than
(10:27):
the law allowed. So I ain't worried about it, but I'm.
S3 (10:30):
Here.
S7 (10:31):
To say, hey, do what you do.
S3 (10:33):
Mhm.
S7 (10:34):
But my job restricts me. So I gotta go with
it because I need to provide for my family so
we can eat.
S3 (10:41):
I gotcha.
S7 (10:42):
So other than that I'm all with it. You know
what I mean I'm all with.
S3 (10:45):
It I got you, I got.
S7 (10:46):
You.
S3 (10:47):
Yes, sir. Okay. And and you. And as you said
a few minutes ago, you've been in San Diego for
a long time.
S7 (10:52):
Since 73. Before this garden was here. This was just
an empty dirt lot. Mhm, mhm. There was a fish, uh,
shop right here called our time. Right. This was like 79,
81 right. And we used to go find and buy
our nice little, uh, red snapper sandwiches on wheat and our, uh,
(11:14):
fries with the seasoning salt that they sold brother Amos
and brother El Amin. So this before this was our
area where we used to get off the school bus, right.
And come there and go by our little French fries
with the seasoning salt, because they turned us on to
seasoning salt for $1.25. A nice big brown bag.
S3 (11:33):
Right.
S7 (11:34):
Right. So I've been here since.
S3 (11:36):
Long.
S7 (11:36):
Before all this.
S3 (11:38):
Gotcha, gotcha.
S7 (11:38):
Okay.
S3 (11:39):
Gotcha. Any thoughts about cannabis and and the fact that
cannabis is legal? Um.
S7 (11:46):
I used to go get nickels and dimes from the Mexicans,
where it was like regular Reggie, where it wasn't even
high quality. But that's what we used to smoke on. Mhm.
So nowadays these youngsters and everybody are privy to going
to dispensary and get nothing but top shelf. We didn't
have that back then. Oh we were struggling and going
(12:08):
in uh Logan or Skyline and somebody was telling me
a nickel or a dime sack or whatever of some
top notch, but we wasn't privy to. Nowadays it's like,
why would you do we. I'm going to tell you
like this. The weed man's out of business because I
can go down the street and get 20g for like 40, $60. Mhm.
(12:29):
So they business they out of business when all this
opened up. Now it's like I like it better that way.
Nobody can say oh man the weed man this and that. No.
Go down here get you some top shelf indica. Sativa
whatever is your choice. And go get you a sack
and then do it all again as long as you're 18.
S3 (12:51):
There you go.
S7 (12:52):
You know what I mean? So it ain't no more like, oh, man,
police pulling you over, or they find you with a
nickel or a dime bag or not that it's over
with now, you know what I mean?
S3 (13:00):
Yeah. Yeah, well, I appreciate it. Appreciate your thoughts. Appreciate
your words, Lou. Yes. And thank you very much for
spending some time with me. Yes, sir. Thank you, thank you.
Thank you very much, Andrea, for taking some time to
talk with me today on Easter 420 at the garden.
What brings you here to the garden today?
S6 (13:22):
What brings me here today is to celebrate Easter with
my friend.
S3 (13:27):
Okay.
S6 (13:27):
And to acknowledge the importance of 420 today.
S3 (13:31):
Alright, alright. I thought I saw you pick up an
egg to get some 420 goodies, so I don't know
what you're going to get. And I won't ask you.
I won't press you. But whatever you get, enjoy.
S6 (13:44):
Well, I can say this. Uh, it must have been
someone else picking up that egg, because I do not imbibe. Um,
although I celebrate everyone's, uh, choice as to whether to
imbibe or not.
S3 (14:00):
Now, I know you are a very big advocate of
choice voting.
S6 (14:03):
I am.
S3 (14:04):
So can you tell me a little bit about, you know,
people are wondering what the heck is choice voting?
S6 (14:10):
Choice voting is the answer to San Diego's really, really,
very messed up voting system. Ooh. Uh, San Diego has
a voting system that elects officials who cater to, uh,
large dollar donors and special interests as opposed to grassroots individuals, constituents.
(14:30):
And most voters. And we got to change that.
S3 (14:34):
Okay. Well, I'm not going to press you because I
know that, uh, as an attorney, you could go on
and talk to me or at least the next three hours,
but I don't I don't want to hold you that long.
I just wanted you to give our audience a little
bit of taste of what choice voting is, because I
know you're a really big advocate for it, and I'm
(14:54):
hoping that we can get you. We can't get you
in April, but maybe May. We'll get.
S6 (15:00):
You.
S3 (15:00):
Get you to come on cannabis enlightened and tell us
almost everything you know about choice voting.
S6 (15:08):
I definitely will, but in the meantime.
S3 (15:11):
Okay.
S6 (15:11):
I would ask your listeners to go to our website. Alright,
which is the Justice workshop.org.
S3 (15:18):
Okay.
S6 (15:19):
Find out about Choice voting okay. And sign up to
help bring choice voting to the city of San Diego.
S3 (15:26):
Alright. Did you hear that? Cannabis enlightened audience. We are
being given homework assignment before Andrea comes on the program
and I love it. Absolutely love it. Thank you very
much Andrea and all my best to you and have
a great rest of the evening.
S6 (15:44):
I will, I definitely will, thank you.
S3 (15:46):
Alright. And what brings you here to the garden for 420?
S7 (15:54):
My friend invited.
S6 (15:55):
Me. She said she works here.
S3 (15:57):
Okay.
S7 (15:58):
Kelly? Yeah, Kelly. He invited me, and I just wanted.
S6 (16:01):
To, you know, get out of the house. Uh, and it's.
S7 (16:04):
It's such a.
S6 (16:04):
Nice day, honestly.
S7 (16:06):
To be out and hanging out with.
S6 (16:07):
People.
S7 (16:08):
Before, you know, the.
S6 (16:08):
Workweek starts again.
S3 (16:09):
So is this part of your celebration of 420 or
or Easter?
S6 (16:14):
Uh, probably most mostly for, like, Easter. I used to
celebrate it, but not. Not anymore.
S3 (16:21):
Not anymore.
S6 (16:22):
We kind of just fell out of it.
S3 (16:23):
Okay. I understand, I understand. So it looks to me
like you have a goodie there.
S6 (16:29):
Yeah.
S3 (16:30):
What do you have?
S6 (16:31):
So.
S7 (16:31):
Uh, in the in the.
S6 (16:34):
Yeah, the Easter egg hunt. I won the Hamza edibles,
the green apple.
S7 (16:41):
Flavored.
S6 (16:42):
Gummies.
S7 (16:43):
So I got the Hamza edibles.
S6 (16:44):
Okay, so I got the green apple flavor.
S3 (16:46):
Okay. Alright.
S6 (16:48):
Really? Really good.
S3 (16:49):
And are you aware where the, uh, the the gummies
came from? Uh, the part of the.
S6 (16:54):
Um.
S3 (16:56):
There you go. Yeah. Yeah. Have you been to a
march in App Store?
S6 (17:00):
Uh, no, not yet, but I've heard through my friends.
S3 (17:03):
Okay. Well, I want to see you there to march
in that store pretty soon.
S6 (17:08):
If I can find it. If I don't get lost.
S3 (17:12):
Oh my gosh. Hey, it's been great talking to you.
Thank you very much. I appreciate your.
S6 (17:17):
Time. Thanks for having.
S3 (17:17):
Me. You're welcome. Take care.
S6 (17:19):
You too.
S3 (17:21):
Welcome. Welcome to, um, to my program, the Cannabis Enlightened.
We're glad to have you. And this is turning out
to be a very, very nice event here at the garden.
How long have you been here?
S6 (17:36):
So this garden has been here since 2011.
S3 (17:39):
Wow, wow. And I know that I'm probably going to
save the big, big interview for another time in which
you can talk about Project New Village and what you
have in store for this particular, um, location. But let's
talk about today. Um, this is for 20. And what
(18:00):
does it mean to you to have for 20 celebration
here at the garden?
S6 (18:06):
So one of the things we try to be is
a good neighborhood neighbor, right? A resource for folks in
the community. And the host here tonight is a resident
of this neighborhood and said, can we have a private
party to celebrate for 20? And in response, we said,
absolutely yes. So I'm glad to see that people responded
to his request for folks to come out and celebrate.
(18:28):
And as you can see, it's a nice turnout. It's
a diverse group of people having a good time.
S3 (18:34):
Is this a different kind of Easter celebration in your
in your mind?
S6 (18:39):
I've never been to a celebration.
S3 (18:42):
This is your first one. Oh my gosh.
S6 (18:45):
And so it's been the first one that's ever been
held in this space. And I see a variety of
people we know across different networks enjoying the day enjoying
this activity.
S3 (18:56):
Well, marching ash is beyond grateful and happy to be
a part of this with you. And we love being
a part of Project New Village, and we look forward
to a very long relationship with you too.
S6 (19:11):
That would be great. We're always trying to do things
to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods. We
need partners to make that happen. Thank you.
S3 (19:19):
Absolutely. Ken, before I let you go, what are some
of the the vegetables that you have here at the garden?
S6 (19:26):
Oh, we have a variety of fruit trees. Of course
we have collard greens. Tomatoes are growing. I think we
put some squash in the ground recently. Sweet potatoes, those
kinds of things.
S3 (19:36):
And what's the location here?
S6 (19:38):
This is 4269 Market Street in the neighborhood of Mount Hope.
S3 (19:43):
And it's, uh, some of the listeners, um, want to
get in touch with you to find more out about this, this, uh, garden.
How would they do that?
S6 (19:54):
So the email here is our the web is village.org.
S3 (19:59):
Okay. Fantastic. Fantastic. And as you just said it looks
like folks are having a lot of fun. So thank
you very much again for taking time to talk to us.
S6 (20:09):
Appreciate it. Appreciate you.
S3 (20:12):
Ashley. What brings you here to.
S8 (20:17):
We are all just celebrating the holiday with the homies,
having a good time.
S3 (20:21):
Alright, alright. And are you from this area or from
San Diego?
S8 (20:25):
Yeah, I'm from San Diego. I live up the street.
S3 (20:27):
Okay. How is this your first, um, 420 here at
the garden?
S8 (20:32):
Yeah, it is.
S3 (20:33):
Alright. You have a lot of friends here?
S8 (20:36):
Yeah, I ran into friends I didn't know were coming.
I brought some friends.
S3 (20:39):
So you brought some friends?
S8 (20:40):
I brought some friends. Yeah.
S3 (20:42):
Okay. Okay. And I see you have, um, an Easter surprise. Yes. Cannabis.
S8 (20:47):
Easter surprise. Yes.
S3 (20:48):
What do you have?
S8 (20:50):
I have the Sonoma Hills farm, uh, which is garden.
It's one of my favorite brands. Um, so shout out
to Marsha Nash for providing.
S3 (20:59):
All right. Fantastic. Well, listen, I'm not going to get
in your way of enjoying the day. Enjoy. And thank
you for your, um. Thank you for spending some time
with us.
S8 (21:09):
Yeah. Thank you. Wonderful.
S3 (21:12):
Luis, thank you for being on cannabis enlightened. And thanks
for being here today. Is this a way that you normally, um,
celebrate Easter?
S6 (21:24):
Uh, no.
S9 (21:24):
It's actually my mom's birthday. Around this time of the year.
So she was actually born for 20. Oh, she was born.
S3 (21:30):
Your mom was born in for 20? Yes.
S9 (21:32):
All right. Usually I go home for that. And as
a family. Uh, but this year, I stayed here.
S3 (21:36):
Okay. So is this your first for 20 here at
the garden?
S9 (21:39):
Yes. Alright.
S3 (21:40):
And it looks like you have a cannabis Easter surprise. Yeah.
S9 (21:45):
Yeah. It's a joint from Big Tree.
S3 (21:49):
Okay. Big tree. And.
S9 (21:54):
It's pretty good, actually. It's pretty tasty. It's not that bad.
It burns pretty well. Okay. Um. And actually, I don't
believe I've seen this recently, but it's probably the one
that I go to. Right, right, right.
S3 (22:08):
So when you. When you want some more of that,
where would you go? There you go. There you go. Well, listen.
Thank you. Thank you for spending a few minutes with us.
Appreciate your time.
S9 (22:18):
Yeah. Thank you for having us. Enjoy, man. Yeah. Thank you.
S3 (22:23):
I am so fortunate to have these two ladies with
me today at Cannabis Enlighten. This is Doctor Leroy, and
we are having a blast at 420. Ladies. What brings
you out to 420 today? Stay.
S10 (22:39):
So I come out to the Mount Hope Community Garden
every week for their people's produce market. Um, it's a mobile, um,
farmer's market, um, that they bring to Southeast San Diego.
So this is a this is another home for me.
So as soon as I found out they were having
a 420 event, of course I was here.
S6 (22:59):
And I'm here because.
S10 (23:00):
My roommate Noah is here. And I love celebrating. 420
and I love the community garden.
S3 (23:08):
And it looks like in front of you you have
a couple of products. What do you have?
