Victoria's longest running sports team, the Victoria Shamrocks, kick off
their historic 75th season tonight and their quest for their
10th Mann Cup. They're the last team from the Western
Lacrosse Association to win the national championship back in 2015.
The Shamrocks previously won the Cup in 2005, making a
run in 2025 seem very poetic with a once in

every decade national title. Expect a much different club than
the one that went 18-0 and ran the table in
the regular season last year. After getting beat out of the
Mann Cup, head coach Mike Simpson wanted to address team
toughness and physicality this offseason, and the club answered the call,
adding players like Elijah Gash, Patrick Kaschalk, and local product

Nate Wade. They might not push the pace and score
as many in transition as they did a year ago,
but a bigger, nastier defense that can keep the ball
out of their own net should make up the difference.
The offense will arrive in pieces over the summer from
the National Lacrosse League and from the college ranks, but
they'll be led by Clark Peterson and Patrick Dodds to
start the season. 2024's best goaltending tandem is still intact
