S1 (00:03):
Hello and welcome to a rather somber edition of the
weekly Waller review and preview show. Obviously, we come with
some sad news of the passing of the mighty Riff Rocket.
Champion three year old.
S2 (00:18):
New South Wales, New South
S1 (00:19):
Wales Horse of the year. Yep.
S2 (00:21):
Um, yes. It was a tough week. Um, had a
colic surgery seven days ago. Was coming through it pretty well.
It's never easy, and you never get too far ahead
of yourselves. It's only one way of the colic or
two ways of the colic surgery. It's good or bad.
And unfortunately, we're talking about bad news today. Uh. Great horse. Um,
(00:42):
three time Group one winner. Just in a small handful
of race starts. Uh, Victorian Derby. Both derbies. Our first
Australian Derby. Meant a lot to the whole family. Not
just the Kepitis family who owned it and cherished it
and loved the horse and family.
S1 (00:59):
Coolmore raised him.
S2 (01:01):
Yeah. Um, our team all around Australia were touched by him. George,
who strapped him in Sydney Del in Melbourne. Jo from Melbourne who's
now in Dubai. Dubai. Lizzy. Stuart and all the team
just touches everybody. So tough. Yeah, but, um, everyone did
(01:23):
the best they could for him and yeah.
S1 (01:30):
Gone but not.
S2 (01:30):
Forgotten. Certainly not. He's touched our hearts. He was a
tough bugger. Tough? Absolutely.
S1 (01:35):
And whilst we're on the negative note or the sombre note,
we'll discuss.
S2 (01:42):
Where the couple missed the mark.
S1 (01:44):
Yeah. Of the weekend. Well, Switzerland.
S2 (01:46):
Well,Riff puts it in perspective, doesn't it? Switzerland missed the target.
He was a he's a Colt. He's very fresh. Um,
he raced keenly. Um, it just didn't work out. And
I think he's pulled it. out what I think. I
know he's pulled up a little bit sore. He's got
a cut and there's one of his legs. Um, so
(02:08):
we'll probably be forced to miss the Golden Rose, but
probably a good thing. Just get back on track. And, uh.
My word. Roman Consul into the Coolmore. Okay. Four weeks,
three weeks. Good horse.
S1 (02:21):
So don't forget him. Do not forget him. No. Via Sistina.
S2 (02:26):
Um, tricky. Yeah. It was six seasons in one day
at Flemington, and, um. And you only.
S1 (02:32):
Got there at midday if you were there from seventh.
What a crazy place.
S2 (02:37):
And, um. Look, I know she ran second in the
Champion Stakes and on Champions Day, uh, at Ascot, but, um,
I think she handled it. James said she was never
really comfortable, couldn't quicken it, sustained her momentum in the straight,
not as if she sprinted and got tired. She actually
couldn't go in it. Interesting and Joliestar . You we're going to
(03:00):
ask me about that. Yeah. I was.
S3 (03:03):
Um.
S2 (03:03):
We'll get all the bad news out of the way.
She's fine. So that's the bad news. The other way. She's.
There's nothing wrong with her. Um, I just.
S1 (03:12):
Never. Yeah.
S2 (03:12):
She was. Look, our instructions to Kerrin was to be
quiet early, set her up for a good second half,
which is how she races. Um, he's gone across to
find a spot, and all of a sudden, the leaders
et in front, and we're just. The race has got
away from her. It was basically run in single file.
(03:32):
We were out sort of two, two and a half wide.
You might as well call it three wide. No cover.
It wasn't anyone's fault, but made it tough. That 1200 metres? Yeah.
Keep turning. She just keeps turning. Although hers was a
bit further. I know it was 200. Yeah, 12. So
you just never had a chance to breathe travel, and, um.
(03:53):
She'll be fine. She's bounced out of it. She'll be
ready to go in the Golden Pendant and hopefully onto Everest.
Three weeks.
S1 (04:00):
Into an Everest.
S2 (04:01):
My word.
S1 (04:02):
We know she goes well. fresh. So right. Whilst all
that was happening, we were having an absolute blast with
all the other runners. Yeah, old Unusual Legacy romped home.
S2 (04:14):
You were getting trifectas and firsts and firsts and more firsts. Yeah.
S1 (04:20):
Jeez, maybe it made you thirsty, didn't it? That much anyway.
Unusual legacy.
S2 (04:28):
Uh, good. Yeah. He's a terrific stayer. On the rise. Metro.
S1 (04:34):
Uh, can you win a Group one, I think.
S2 (04:36):
Look, he's he's tracking the right way. Yeah, 1400. Mr.
Muollo thinks he'll stay. He's a good judge of a horse. Uh,
there's a bit of bit of stamina, and the pedigree.
S1 (04:46):
Means a lot to you. Winning for them, wouldn't it? Yeah.
S2 (04:49):
It would. They've been with me a long time, Tony, and.
S1 (04:52):
I'm happy.
S2 (04:52):
To. Yeah, she's got a little share in it. Yeah, it'd.
S1 (04:55):
Be like a double up then. Matusalem.
S2 (04:57):
Yeah.
S1 (04:58):
Couple of Rambo's had there.
S2 (05:00):
Yeah, he. He's found. Found solid form the last three
of his last four, I think, have been wins and
on good tracks. Those 3 or 4. The fourth one wasn't.
S1 (05:10):
The distance was no issue, was it?
S2 (05:12):
No.
S1 (05:13):
Absolutely ate it up.
S2 (05:14):
So he's tracking along nicely. And I love those horses
going into a trot with good form. Winning form.
S1 (05:21):
Firestorm romping home for a stable trifecta. Yeah, and Mare of Mount Buller .
S2 (05:27):
All three of them will win group races, won't they?
S1 (05:29):
Yeah, I would have thought so.
S2 (05:31):
Um. And then. Yeah, it was a good, good, good racing.
S1 (05:35):
Last, but certainly not least at Flemington was got one.
S2 (05:39):
We got no cross here.
S1 (05:40):
No no no no no. What about little old lady.
Lady Shenandoah. Jay Ford. Just.
S2 (05:48):
Oh, yeah.
S1 (05:49):
Bumbling around with 53. No problem.
S2 (05:52):
Hermitage has got some nice fillies.
S1 (05:54):
I don't know what they've invested though.
S2 (05:56):
They have.
S1 (05:56):
Invested hard.
S2 (05:57):
Yeah.
S1 (05:58):
Now reaping the rewards. Yeah. It's good to see.
S2 (06:01):
Um, Guy Mulcaster loved her at the sales and duly
bought her and there. Yeah, she's probably number two seed
to Autumn glow at the moment, but, um, some nice
races coming up for the lady.
S1 (06:15):
And like you said, Star Thoroughbreds was a nice winner
at Flemington with Chrysaor . Yeah.
S2 (06:21):
Craig Newitt in the saddle. Blast from the past. He's
won a metro for us. And, um. Yeah, he was.
He took him back and went round them and won them.
He did, didn't he? It's great to see.
S1 (06:33):
Them anyway, leading into this weekend. We've got a ripping
line up of horses likely to have just two. Could
potentially have more if it was a small field. Yeah.
S2 (06:44):
So we're doing the, um, doing the show before the acceptances. Um,
but that's I think it'll be gotcha. And Fanny. Yeah.
Zougotcha was brilliant beat Fangirl last night.
S1 (06:59):
Yeah. And no fear to contend with this time. Well,
Tommy will only have to look one way, won't he?
S4 (07:04):
Yeah.
S2 (07:05):
So, anyway, um, uh, both horses have worked very well.
You can't separate them.
S1 (07:13):
Tommy reckons she's improved, so.
S2 (07:15):
Gotcha. Yeah, so does James. James thinks Fangirls improved.
S1 (07:19):
Okay. Okay. Match race. There's a few others in there
from other stables, so they better have improved as well. Yeah.
You forget about them, don't we? Anyway, we can only
worry about our own. So that's what we do. We
worry hard. Anyway, leading into the tea rose stakes, we
could well end up with three in the race. Obviously,
the leader of the pack would be Autumn glow.
S2 (07:41):
Yes, she's trained on well. 1400 metres should suit. She
faces some different horses, though. Um, the two horses that
have quinella. Both the legs of the Princess Series so
far are in it. So we have to beat them
and others. But Autumn Glow is very well. She should
(08:02):
love the 1400.
S1 (08:04):
Lazzura was brilliant. First up.
S2 (08:06):
She was.
S1 (08:07):
Going to improve. She ran.
S2 (08:08):
She ran third to those two horses. Charles. And she will. Yeah.
She'll improve. I think 1400 metres will suit. Yeah. So
she's there. And Declichy is it? Yeah.
S1 (08:19):
Declichy, who's also in a Melbourne with Joao on.
S2 (08:21):
I think Melbourne's a preference but barrier drawers will tell us
a bit more in the morning.
S1 (08:26):
And James has got off now to ride Autumn glow.
What does that tell you. I'm not sure. Well hey,
let's just say no.
S2 (08:37):
James. I wouldn't read too much into it. James is
very loyal to our stable. He is? Yeah. He's a
good boy. Yeah, he's a good boy. Yeah. And yeah.
Owners get the benefit of using James a lot more.
S1 (08:50):
Right? Yeah. Big perk, big perk. Okay. Into the Bill Richie,
you might also have a three pronged attack in Mickael
down on the lightweight of 53.
S2 (09:00):
Well, he's got similar form to cross here and sort
of those fillies that trifecta it up on last Saturday.
So yeah, he's.
S1 (09:09):
Great for Catherine and Oliver in those colors, isn't it?
S2 (09:10):
Yeah, it would be.
S1 (09:11):
They're passionate owners.
S2 (09:13):
My word. So he's going well. He tried enormous.
S1 (09:16):
Routes also in on the Friday and the Tibi.
S2 (09:19):
Yeah. We'll see where she draws best and where she's
suited best. But I heard you saying before that she's
quite well suited and.
S1 (09:25):
Quite well suited in the tibi J Max again a
Newcastle scarlet oak.
S2 (09:34):
She's a good mare.
S1 (09:35):
Philippe, 53, here, 58, in the Tibi. Is she 58?
S2 (09:41):
Yeah, right. Well, she's best placed in the bill. Ritchie.
If she gets a start.
S1 (09:45):
Win and you're in. You did that last year.
S2 (09:47):
Rodina.
S1 (09:48):
Rodina. No. No penalty exempt from ballot. Off you go.
S2 (09:53):
So far as you can remember.
S1 (09:54):
Yeah I can.
S2 (09:56):
Who wrote it?
S1 (09:57):
I don't know, some dolly bird, I think.
S2 (10:00):
Mum. Cathy.
S1 (10:02):
Two of them. Grace wrote it as well. Oh, really? Yeah.
S5 (10:06):
Yeah.
S1 (10:07):
There you go. Who's that? Cheating? Almost. If two of
them wrote it. All right. Anyway, time will tell. Stewards inquiry. Uh,
Kingston town. Francesco Guardi. He's come back. Well.
S2 (10:19):
He's up to a suitable distance. 2000m. It's a little
bit to like about his last run. And as you know,
he's a good horse on his day. So up to 2000.
Big plus. El Bodegon. Uh, we've changed his work up
a bit. He's galloping once a week, but he's having
a good, solid gallop when he has a gallop. So, um,
he's bouncing off the track. I'd love him to bounce
(10:42):
into back into form, but that doesn't need a half
length to animate. Third, and even if you just run
eighth in a Cox Plate, bugger.
S1 (10:49):
That well and then won a Melbourne Cup off it. Yeah, yeah,
that's that's what I thought you were going with, uh,
land legend.
S2 (10:56):
I like this horse. He's working towards something good. And
2000m will be a big plus.
S1 (11:02):
And Valiant King.
S2 (11:04):
Like this horse too. We like a lot of horses,
don't we?
S1 (11:08):
We do. We've got a lot of good horses. We're
a very friendly stable.
S2 (11:11):
Yeah. Um, the king is ready to run. Well. Slight
question whether the 2000m is too far but a mile
for a horse that doesn't like a mile is probably
too far. So at least one.
S1 (11:27):
Mile here makes it even harder.
S2 (11:28):
He'll get his chance to.
S1 (11:30):
Get some breathing room. Yeah. Be happy.
S2 (11:33):
Happy. Smiling.
S1 (11:35):
Likeable chap. Yeah.
S2 (11:37):
See him at the 200 metre mark with his teeth out. Smiling.
Away we go. He's good for a good prep. Yeah.
S1 (11:43):
Melbourne Cup.
S2 (11:43):
Hope so.
S1 (11:46):
88 mile Snowman.
S2 (11:49):
Um.
S1 (11:49):
Drawn for.
S2 (11:52):
It's Tuesday Charlie.
S1 (11:55):
That's where we're drawing. Okay.
S2 (11:56):
If he draws that well, he'll come up. If he
doesn't draw that well, he'll stay in Melbourne and run
Sandown next week. But he's going well enough.
S1 (12:04):
Okay. Congregation in the 1400.
S2 (12:07):
Um, wasn't suited by that. On pace bias, last start
can bounce back 1400 or better.
S6 (12:12):
And pure alpha.
S2 (12:14):
It's working well. Can't fold them. He's a nice horse.
This is his type of race.
S1 (12:19):
Gallop nicely this morning didn't he? Yep. There's your form.
Line of this race comes before Hammet runs at the
provincials on the same day. Then you know, to have
a load on hammet because they work pretty well together.
Ones going to Saturday at Randwick and one's going to
the provincials. Anyway, without further ado, we rip down to
Caulfield where we have private life, and Mr. Moreira, who
(12:42):
keeps a bit of a private life, doesn't he?
S2 (12:43):
He does. Yeah. It's good to see him in town
this morning. Yeah. Wasn't it? Yeah. Nice. A smile on
his face.
S1 (12:49):
What was the description he got from Mr. Messara? Uh.
S2 (12:54):
Not sure.
S1 (12:54):
He's a sunny, sunny character. Yeah.
S2 (12:58):
He is, he's a.
S1 (12:59):
Everything's positive. Would you like that? Pleasure to have him here.
S2 (13:03):
My word. One of the world's best. Mm. No, no.
S1 (13:06):
He's there at Kembla on Thursday won't they. My word, right? Anyway,
private life is beautiful. First up, wasn't it?
S2 (13:14):
Yeah. Yeah. He only got out in time. But that's
all you need to do.
S1 (13:18):
Would you say that's probably going to go down as
the toughest benchmark 64 ever run on record? Oh, jeez.
It had some good horses in it.
S2 (13:28):
Oh yeah. Top ten. Top ten.
S1 (13:30):
Top ten for sure. She.
S2 (13:33):
Um. She's going well. She got round the left handed
way this morning like nobody's business. Like a cat.
S1 (13:40):
And silk slippers, huh?
S2 (13:42):
Yeah.
S1 (13:43):
Yeah. Very good. In the 78 2000, quantum Cat and
Denmark are.
S2 (13:48):
Both going okay. They just need a little bit of confidence. Yeah. Uh,
quantum Cat is probably slightly my preference, but the other
horse is capable.
S1 (13:58):
In the mares. 8414. Anahita.
S2 (14:01):
Yeah, I'd like to see a soft five or soft
six track with her. Good draw. And I think she'll
be better left handed.
S1 (14:07):
Okay. And then into the group one to finish things off. Buck. Buck, Buckaroo.
S2 (14:13):
Terrific. Last start.
S1 (14:14):
Wasn't he.
S2 (14:16):
Might have only knocked off hinged, but hinge is a
good horse. She knows when to fire.
S1 (14:20):
Ten time group one placed hinge. Yeah, yeah. It's not
that easy. No.
S2 (14:24):
And look, that track was pretty firm that day, and
I don't think Bucky liked it that much. No, he
draws a gate. Joao Moreira steer. They'll know he's there.
S1 (14:37):
And Komolika.
S2 (14:39):
Good. First up run upset the party.
S1 (14:42):
Yeah Buckaroo.
S2 (14:43):
He'll only go a few draws. Well, otherwise he'll be
kept fresh for the Epsom. But he's going well.
S1 (14:48):
Narrowly beaten in the Epsom last year, wasn't he.
S2 (14:51):
Regina?
S1 (14:53):
Jeez, we've got a strong hand in the Epsom this year.
S2 (14:56):
Well just wait, just look out.
S1 (14:58):
Oh, anyway, everyone have a fantastic weekend and, uh, we'll
see you next week. Hopefully on a more cheery note.
