WTOCAM W two three six c are Indianapolis, discussing the
issues that matter to you and keeping you informed of
what's happening in and around Indy. It's Community Connection with
Tina Cosby, brought to you by Child Advocates, a champion
for justice, opportunity and well being for children on Praise
(00:21):
AM thirteen ten ninety five point one FM.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
And good afternoon, and welcome to Community Connection. I'm Tina Cosby.
Today is Friday, Friday, Friday, Yes, August fifteenth. The month
of August is officially halfway over, or if you want
to look on the positive side, we're only halfway through
of the month of August. But the fifteenth time is
flying again as usual it is And Nick Caaron, I mean,
(00:47):
it just seems like we just said August first. Did
we first day of a new month? Blah blah blah.
We already quick next week here we are to fifteenth.
It's also the last weekend of the Indiana State Fair.
We're going to talk about that a little bit more
and some other things, but it is open lines and
we can review Friday three one seven four eight zero
thirteen ten three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten
(01:11):
is the number two community connection. Generally, usually we are
joined by our contributing analyst, James Patterson, but James is
taking some well deserved time off and we want him
to take all his time off that he so richly deserves,
and so James will be back with us when he
gets back. So we are just going to go ahead
(01:33):
and soldier on with wee can review and open lines.
Friday three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten. Three
one seven, four eight zero thirteen ten is the number
to the show, and again today is open lines and
we can review Friday. And I'll say for the most part,
I'll say that for the most part because we are
(01:54):
going to have a segment with the Indianapolis Recorders Danny
Bridges that's coming up in our second hour, our sports
segments that we usually do on Thursdays, but that segment today,
the segment today is a carryover from yesterday's show when
Danny was unavoidably delayed, and that happens to us all
at some point in time, so he graciously agreed to
(02:18):
come back and do his segment today. We're also going
to have one final giveaway for free tickets to Gospel
Day at the Indiana State Fair featuring Marvin Sap and
Melvin Crispel the third who you heard on the show yesterday.
Really was great to hear from him. So what we
understand is there's kind of like two headliners. Everybody is
(02:39):
going to be great. We've got a Andy reverend, andy,
Christian rap artist, choirs, you name it, and it's all
going to be part of day long gospel extravaganza out
at the Indiana State Fair on the final day from
three until I think until nine think they said three
(03:01):
to nine, yes, yeah, so many hours, yeah exactly. Anyway,
like I said, one last giveaway as well as a
number of other things we're going to be talking about
regarding open lines for today, the tick is, by the way,
we're giving away R four As you very well know,
(03:21):
we talked about it last week and this week too.
There for a specially reserved section near the stage for
special guests of Praise Indy, which, of course, Praise Indy
a proud sponsor of the Gospel Music Festival at the
Indiana State Fair, which.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
The Gospel Festival.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
The Gospel Festival is coming up Sunday, August seventeenth, from
three until three until seven. The Fair closes at nine
now three until seven. That was right, It wasn't nine o'clock.
Although is gospel, y'all his gospel. And I was teasing
Rita and Melvin yesterday and some others. They say, y'all sure,
(04:04):
y'all gonna be able to wrap it up in a
few hours, And they said, of course, so they're gonna
get everybody in and get everything in there. As you
heard from Rita, you need to be there no later
than four pm. No later than four pm, because that's
if you want to be able to see Melvin Sap,
(04:27):
of course, and then Marvin Sap and Melvin Crispell, Marvin
Sap and Melvin Chris Bell. So you're gonna want to
be here early. The other thing about Rita said, don't
be there any later than four, any later than four,
and the doors open and the music starts at three pm.
(04:48):
So yeah, three until seven thirty, three until seven thirty. Sorry,
I'll add another half hour in there at three until
seven thirty. The other thing about Sunday though, at the fair,
especially at the Gospel Music Festival, it's forecast Sunday it's
forecast to be the hottest day of the weekend, with
(05:10):
temperatures reaching a high of ninety three or higher. Ninety
three degrees are higher, So please please please please plan
accordingly for the heat. We know how to do this
well in Indiana. We know how to prepare for all
kinds of weather, and heat is just one of them.
But we want everybody to make sure that they have
(05:31):
a good time. But more so than that, we want
everybody to be safe. Please make sure you are hydrated,
that you have water, and that you do not over
extend yourself. Again, want everybody to come and have a
great time, but more than that, we want everyone to
be safe as they are enjoying the show. Right now,
(05:51):
phone lines are open. Three one seven four eight zero
thirteen ten three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten.
Speaking of the fair, as I was saying, this is
the last weekend of the fair, last full weekend of
the Indiana State Fair. Things started off a little rocky,
but the fair is back under control. Rocky meaning you
(06:15):
know when we talk about weekend review and some other things.
There was, you know a little bit of a dust
up with some underaged juveniles, and the fair just up
their policy, cracked down a little bit, and now things
are fine. I like I said, took a stroll through
there the other day last weekend and everything was fine,
(06:37):
and I think it's a fine time. But we do
have to be careful weather wise. I mean, that's going
to be the biggest hazard. I think that's going to
be the biggest hazard, is the weather, if you will,
and most of us know how to do it, but
you know it bears repeating. Please make sure that you
are prepared for the intense heat that is forecast for Sunday,
(07:01):
the intense heat actually this forecast for the rest of
the weekend, because I believe today is the highs expected
to be ninety one, Tomorrow Saturday the highs expected to
be ninety two, and then Sunday day of the gospel
music festival, Gospel Days, like what we like to call
it here at Praise is ninety three degrees. So be
(07:21):
weather friendly to yourself, mean weather friendly.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Did you want to do to give away in the
first or second.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Hour, I don't know. We're people calling asking about the.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
People are calling.
Speaker 6 (07:34):
I guess something you said, and I'm listening to you
the whole time about the Gospel Day. It seemed like
they thought you were giving them away in that moment,
because people start calling in when you was talking about
Gospel Days.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
No, we're going to give away tickets, but we didn't even.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Announce a number.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
No, no, nothing, not yet, not yet. Let me you know
the other thing. I was going to check in on something.
I'm not going to say it right now, but we're
gonna we're gonna be giving them away, folks. I promise
we're gonna give them away. So it's either going to
be this hour or the next. There's only two hours
we have for the show. Right yesterday we had two
(08:06):
sets of tickets, and I told you exactly exactly when
I was going to give them away for the second hour,
because I wanted Rita and our guests, including Melvin Chrispell
the third I wanted everybody to be here, Reverend Chauncey
Brown and Reverend Andy and everybody that Rita brought with
her to our show yesterday. I wanted them to be
(08:28):
in on it as well. And again, these are special.
It's especially reserved area near the stage that you just
can't beat, and so it's always a pleasure to be
able to give those away. We'll do it shortly, and
I tell you what, when I'm getting ready to give
them away. I'll let everybody know. Okay, when I'm getting
ready to do that, I will let everybody know.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Cameron, you still haven't been to the fair yet?
Speaker 4 (08:52):
No, no, I haven't.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yeah. Are you gonna go before them?
Speaker 6 (08:55):
No, it's not looking like my schedules. I'm booked, I
got DJ Gaves, I gotta work.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
So it is.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Now that's always good.
Speaker 6 (09:02):
It's not gonna happen. Oh no, No, that's a blessing.
I'm not no complaints, no, no, no, I won't be able
to make it a fair this year.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Do you have a favorite? You know, I'm always curious
what people's.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
You know, I've been talking about what I think I
have maybe, but what my favorite thing to do with
the fair is?
Speaker 3 (09:16):
And that's basically to eat?
Speaker 2 (09:18):
But I wonder what on open lines, I wonder what
our listeners think is, what is your favorite thing to
do with the fair? Now they're just about there. You know,
there's there's three days left today, tomorrow and Sunday. What's
your favorite thing to do with the Indiana State Fair?
If you were to go now? Yesterday three one, seven, four, eight, zero,
thirteen ten, we had a huge revelation for one of
our regulars.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
That being jeff In that at.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Sixty five years of age, he had never ever been
to the Indiana State Fair ever.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
That was amazing. That was amazing.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
So if you want call us in, call it, call
in and let us know what your favorite thing to
do at the Indiana State Fair is or what is
your favorite thing about the Indiana State Fair. I think
the second my second most favorite thing other than eating,
which is nice to eat and try out all the
(10:10):
different things.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
The free stage, the acts at the free stage. You
can't beat that either.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
I mean, you know, you get admission into the fair
and you know, you get a free county and they
it runs the gamut. I mean they have from country
and western to gospel, the soul. You know, Babyface was there.
You know we're having gospel as well as I mean,
it's just amazing the acts that they put on during
(10:36):
their seventeen day run. And it's all free with your
fair admission. And as someone said yesterday, you can't beat that.
What is the admission? What sixteen bucks? And not only
do you get all the attractions at the fair plus
a free concert whenever you want it, so you know
whichever one you want to see. I guess I should say.
You can't really snap your finger and say whenever you
(10:56):
want it. But so if you were to go, what
do you think you're everything would be.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
For me, I would have to agree with the free concert.
I love music, so I can't I can't disregard that
at all. That's probably the best part for me. Any
of the competition, like the ones I used to have,
I don't have now. It's been so many years as
I've been that revolved around like shooting basketballs to win prizes.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
All the games games.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Do you think that those are rigged? Because I've often
heard that the rims are not made of regular rim
material and that they're they're tighter, uh, and they're they're
slight and in like the sights on some of the rifles,
like when you're shooting trying to shooting a duck trying
to win a you know, plastic duck that goes by
in the water, trying to win a prize, that the
(11:44):
whatever they call I think the sites is that what
they call them, the sites, I believe.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
So are are off and so uh you hardly ever win.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
I haven't done the research to confirm that it is rigged.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
In fact, I don't want. I don't want. I don't
want that.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
Speculations, conspiracy theory, I don't know. I don't really want to,
you know, put that out there. But I will say,
because I played basketball at that point, that was my
favorite sport to place. So anytime I saw hoop, I
was gonna go for you. You go for it every time.
Speaker 7 (12:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Yeah, I mean it's doable because the prizes wouldn't be
there and people do get them. But I've often heard that,
you know, it's just a little bit harder at fairs
and things of the of the like when you when
you go there. Now, I did see. I was looking
on Instagram, I think it was anyway, just going through
the social media feeds, and there were several clips from
(12:32):
the fever. They all went out to the fair, sampled
food and Sophie Cunningham couldn't hit a shot, and I'm like,
wait a minute, this woman is a professional basketball player.
Draine's threes right and left and couldn't hit a shot.
Uh So that's that's what kind of made me think, wait,
this is this real? You know, I don't know, but
(12:53):
she she was even a little surprised. It was all
in fun and so of course, it's all in fun. Actually,
I think those things are regulated by state and federal laws.
They have to do certain do certain things because they
did back in the day. I think they were caught
a lot of those acts, not necessarily at the state fair,
but county fairs and roving fairs and things like that
(13:15):
were you know, we're disciplined, yeah, for but it's I
think that's a lot less. You know, one thing I
didn't see too well. One of my favorite things when
I was little. I used to love to take those
ping pong bowls and you'd throw them and you'd win
a goldfish. You remember, you remember that they used to
(13:36):
have a whole table full of goldfish in these little bowls,
and each one had an individual goldfish in it.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
And then you threw.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
You got for three for a dollar or three for
a quarter or whatever. Maybe it might have been three
for a penny back in my day, but anyway, you
would throw them and they would go pop pup up,
you know, ping pong pa. You know, they'd go all
over the place, and if they landed in a in
a bowl, in a goldfish bowl before you ran out
of balls, you win that goldfish. Now it wouldn't live
(14:06):
more than a day or two, because that's what goldfish do.
But it was always a lot of fun. That was
one of the little little kid things to do. I
think I remember, I.
Speaker 6 (14:14):
Was gonna say, if they had that game when I
was going to fair, I was alert to fish, so
I probably avoided it.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Oh, allergic to fish.
Speaker 6 (14:21):
Seafood algy. Well, I know I used to be around
like fresh fish at all.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
I was younger here. I outgrew it, thankfully, outgrew that
part of it.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
Yeah, so if that, if that game was still active
when I was going to the fair, I probably avoided that,
just just caution.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
And then there was another another game that when you
were younger, where it just had rubber ducks in this water,
this water thing that circled that just made a big circle.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
And you you you.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Give them, you know, so many chances and you pick
up a duck and whatever number was on the bottom
of the duck, that was the prize that you won
to I.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Remember that one.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Remember that one.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
I went vaguely, it's like a fuzzy memory. I thought,
I think I remember that one.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
Yeah, three, one, seven, four, eight, zero, thirteen ten. Some
of your fair memories, you know, one favorite things to
do with the fair. I'm curious as we were about
to wrap up our time at the Indiana State Fair,
Indiana State Fair wrapping up on Sunday, But what are
some of the fun things to do? I was talking
to some other folks and some friends of mine. There's
(15:25):
about six of them that are going to get together Sunday.
I guess they're going to do the gospel show and
then the rest of the fair.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Then there's who else.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
I'm trying to think, But I was trying to think
there was one more game that was a lot of
fun too.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Oh, I know what it was.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
They would just put a bunch of yeah, three, one, seven, four, eight, zero,
thirteen ten, give us a call. They would put a
bunch of balloons on this board, and then they would
give you a dart again for so many darts for
so much money.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
I don't remember what the ratio was.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Uh. And if you threw the dart and popped a balloon,
you won a prize as well. And there were complaints
that the edges of the darts were dulled to where
they wouldn't stick in the balloon, or the balloons weren't
blown up as fully as they could be, so as
they could resist the darts.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
You remember that one.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Yes, yeah, I do remember that one. I had to
call it colored.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Oh no, no, that's fine. That I'm just saying that
was that was one. Uh So we were just asking
as we as we're just talking here, what fair memories
or favorite thing to do with the fair if you go.
I I'm not a riding person, so notice I've never
mentioned hopping on a ride. I've never mentioned hopping on
a right.
Speaker 6 (16:46):
Actually that that was the fun part was if they had,
like some certain fairries. I don't know if this one had.
It had the bumper cars. Oh yeah, yeah, I went
try to mix up my county fair experiences with the
state fair.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
I'm pretty sure stay Fair adam as well.
Speaker 6 (17:01):
So of course I was involve racing and cars, so
of course bumper cars, all the rides, the roller coasters,
the ferris wheel, I did all all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Whatever they had ride wise, that was me.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Never did the ferris wheel.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
I did do the scrambler, And there was one that
I was in and I was.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Such a mess. I screamed so loud.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
I remember this one that they had to stop the
ride and let me off, And I was I was
encapsulated in some kind of oval and it just spun
NonStop and three year round here and there. That was
down in Madison, and I'm like, let me out, let
me out. I was maybe seven six or seven. Uh,
(17:43):
And the guy said, are you all right? I said,
I don't want to go in, you know, so I
never went in one of the capsules anymore. That was
a stupid ride anyway. I never understood that one. But
the scrambler. Never ridden on a ferris wheel. I've never
done that. I've never done the ski you know the
State Fair they have that.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
It's like a ski.
Speaker 2 (18:04):
Lift zip one. No, no, no, no, no, it's like
a ski lift. It's not a zip line.
Speaker 8 (18:09):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
It's just it just goes runs the perimeter of the fair.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Oh you look at the whole Yeah, you can see
the whole thing, and you just ride up high. I've
never done that either. But a couple of folks calling in,
I think they might be sharing with some of their
fair memories or favorite things to do with the fair.
Speaker 9 (18:27):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Three, one, seven, four, eight, zero, thirteen ten is the number.
If you want to share, Let's go to Kim, Kim
go ahead, How are you?
Speaker 10 (18:37):
Yes?
Speaker 11 (18:38):
My favorite team to do with the Fair now is
to eat and I will play game, but only one.
Speaker 12 (18:47):
I'll only play the game where you shoot the water
in the mouth because that's the only one I feel
like you can really win and I always win on that.
Speaker 11 (18:56):
Oh you down, I'm good for yeah in the mouth.
I always win on.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
That, okay, maw yeah, because when you shoot the water,
it moves something up the up the wall until you
get ding, and then ding you win right right?
Speaker 13 (19:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (19:13):
And I love it.
Speaker 14 (19:14):
I love that game.
Speaker 7 (19:16):
Wow, you feel like the ride.
Speaker 11 (19:18):
But I done got older now, so I ain't trying
to do the roller coaster.
Speaker 15 (19:22):
You know.
Speaker 14 (19:24):
But I do like the fair atmosphere, and I always
try to pick a day where it's not gonna.
Speaker 11 (19:29):
Be real hot.
Speaker 14 (19:30):
I haven't been this year and.
Speaker 7 (19:33):
Is hot, so I am concentrating on going Sunday.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Oh are you gonna go Sunday? Yeah, that'll be nice.
Speaker 11 (19:39):
I'm gonna try.
Speaker 10 (19:40):
I'm gonna try.
Speaker 11 (19:41):
I got an outfit and I have one of those
Umbrea hat. Oh I was gonna wear that. Yeah, that'll
help with your sun.
Speaker 13 (19:50):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Yeah, you know what. I've also been seeing a lot
of people with these coolers, these personal coolers. And one
of them, you know, it's kind of like a necklace
or around your a little plastic necklace and it throws up.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
It's a fan.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
And then there's others that are actually little many fans
that you clip on to your clothing or whatever and
it keeps you cooled off. But they also I think
they also have somewhere out there a missing state. Well
that's for the kids too, they have a cooling or
missing stations. So and the other thing you can do
you can always duck into one of the exhibit halls
(20:24):
or something like that to cool down if it starts
to get too two intents, because those feel very yeah,
those feel really really good. Indeed, all right, kimp, Well
if you go, have a nice time.
Speaker 10 (20:37):
Okay, and thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
All righty, thank you? Uh three one seven for eight,
zero thirteen ten. Just talking for a few minutes about
the fair. Do you plan to go? What's your favorite
thing to do at the fair? And you know some
some fun times or experiences that you may have had,
brother Kimmick, go ahead, how are you.
Speaker 11 (20:57):
All right? Please send bless it Tina. Yes, I enjoy
I used to enjoy going to the fair. Uh, the
family pictures, It seems like everybody got them.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
I forgot about that.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Those were the worst pictures in the world, weren't they.
They would already start deteriorating before you got out of
the booth. They had that black around them. Remember, Yes, yes.
Speaker 11 (21:21):
That's what I still have one from. I still have
one in the family with me and all my siblings
to get.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Yes, Oh, I wish we still had ours because we
all used to crowd into that booth and get those
pictures every year.
Speaker 11 (21:36):
Yeah that I like the elephant ears.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Uh huh, those are good. Those are great.
Speaker 11 (21:41):
Elephant ears were good. And Tina, I don't know what
you did with your gold fish, but I used to
win like fiber or six of those times and take
them home and put them in my aquarium, shoot dog
on it. The next year, rolling around I would get
no those gold fish live, no k Martin, get some
(22:02):
gold food.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Yeah, it was forty nine cents or something like that.
It was really expensive.
Speaker 11 (22:07):
Forty nine was real inexpensive. But just to have a
real good good time at the fair.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
But yeah, one of those ping pong balls cool, I
mean because you could just throw them and they eventually
settle into one of the one of the I haven't
seen one of those in forever. I don't think they
still have them.
Speaker 14 (22:24):
No, I don't.
Speaker 11 (22:24):
I don't think they do that anymore. And it's just
like with the with the basketball thing. You know that
the hoop is kind of its kind of ah shape.
That's why it's kind of difficult to get that ball
in there. But but my brother he could win at that.
I mean he used to win all the time with
that basketball hoop. Oh yeah, he was the expert. He
(22:47):
was definitely the expert. But had a great time out.
There was always a family, family fun and event. And
speaking of family, Tina dog dot at you and I,
we have some people we all know in common and
even related to some of them.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Seriously, Yes, who.
Speaker 11 (23:07):
Is Tony Prather? You know Tony bet you you.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Of course I know Tony Marty.
Speaker 11 (23:14):
Yeah, you know all of the Blue family.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
The Blues. Well what's left? Yeah yeah, well yeah, sadly,
sadly I don't think well the kids of the Blues
are left.
Speaker 11 (23:28):
Yes, yeah, yeah, Because Carl Blue was my brother in
law man and oh he.
Speaker 10 (23:33):
Was miss him man.
Speaker 11 (23:36):
I call him SoRs. He was my brother in law
and he the one guy that I truly truly miss.
But Tina, I am not going to hog up the line.
I'm gonna let the other people get on and talk
about how they love to stay fair, and I'm gonna say,
like always as so above, it's happening below, and I
(23:56):
still love my people. That's not gonna change.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
That's right. We got I love him.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
We got to love him, all.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Right, Brother Kivin, thank you for and I I I
got to look up how to keep a goldfish around
for a year because I sure couldn't fear it. Good tank.
I'm going I know my younger my younger brother, he
won at one one at the fair one year and
he said the fish won't move. You know, he's younger
than us.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
And he's like why.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
He said, well, I gave it a bath. The water
got dirty. Instead of changing the water, he said, he
gave a fish a bath, and he gave it a
bath in some hot water, and then it's Gottina.
Speaker 11 (24:35):
Also, before I leave, uh Bo bombers, little Junior would
like to have a conversation with you. Maybe he liked
to be on the show at some point. He's got
a lot of wrestling going.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
On oh he does. Okay, I would love to talk
with him. That. That would be a fun convo I
tell you, that would be a really fun conversation.
Speaker 11 (24:55):
Yes, for sure. So I would definitely let him know.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Yeah, please do let him know, and uh, you know
you the numbers in online. My email is online. If
he wants to contact me, Yeah, that's fine. I'd love
to hear from it.
Speaker 11 (25:09):
I will most definitely do that. I appreciate that. Peace
and blessing out there, family, See you guys a little
bit later.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Okod okay, thank you, brother Kevin.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Appreciate it. But thank you. By Man three one seven
boy zero thirteen ten, Greg, go ahead, how are you?
Speaker 14 (25:26):
Yes, what I'm saying, how you doing?
Speaker 2 (25:27):
I'm doing good. I'm doing good.
Speaker 14 (25:29):
That ride that you mentioned, I've got several things that
I should have rolled down, so I won't forget that
rider that you were talking about, skyriders right that I
was working on.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Oh was I don't remember what they called it, but it.
Speaker 10 (25:43):
Was a very skyride.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Is that what it was?
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (25:47):
The sky you're talking about the sky ride, not the
one that I was begging to get off of when
I was little. You're talking about that's called the skyride
the camera. Does that make sense? Is that the skyride?
Speaker 16 (25:58):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (25:58):
Yes, okay, yeah, okay, yeah, Well Greg knows he works
out at the fair. So it's what's.
Speaker 14 (26:04):
Fifteen tickets each way? So you can get on by there.
Used to be at gazebo, if you remember. I haven't
been at the fair in years, so I don't know
where the gazebo went. But there's a Indiana State Fair
kind of arch and it's right there. You can catch
it from there to Gate six about Fall Creek for
fifteen tickets and then you can catch fifteen tickets per
(26:26):
person back. So if you want to ride round, tip
is thirty tickets per way for each way.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Have you ever ridden it?
Speaker 14 (26:33):
Now? I worked on it, you know, back in the
day I worked at the fair from a teenager on up.
I was so sick of that fair. When I got
off work, I didn't even go to the midway.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
You know, that happens with a lot of things that
you're made to do, or you have to do, or
you're working things of that nature. That's the last thing
you want to do is go and enjoy yourself there.
Sometimes it depends on the event.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
I guess I'm going to talk a little home now.
Speaker 14 (27:02):
I don't know if I've talked to you about this.
I used to work for GMAC and I called on
dealers all over the state of Indiana. I went to
Miland where they had a picture of the nineteen fifty
four basketball team that was portrayed on the Hoosiers, and
I went I went down several times through. I think
(27:23):
Clifty Motors was one of them, and there was another
one down in Now you down at the bottom is
where Ela Jenkins, a friend of mine, pastor you probably.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Knew, I can't, ye, Yeah, I know the Jenkins, Yes.
Speaker 14 (27:36):
Right, well I was. They were at the bottom, I
guess near where they do the Riata races or whatever.
And and I was at the top at the car dealerships.
There was Clifty and a couple others that I called on.
But it's been probably twenty five twenty six years. I
left GMAC in ninety nine, but I had a lot
of where.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Was Where was clifty Motors? What town was that in?
Speaker 14 (27:57):
Oh It was in It was in Madison, it was
on There was a Cadillac dealership was kind of There
was two or three ways to come down. You could
either take sixty five to you they either take four.
You could either take four to twenty one past the armory,
you know what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
The Yeah, you can take four twenty one. You can
take sixty five down to you know, either Seymour or
Austin or wherever. And you can also take thirty one
straight down to Columbus. There's a lot of ways to
go down there.
Speaker 14 (28:26):
Yeah, right, And I would sometimes because I love driving
the highway, so I would take sixty five to Scotchburg,
oh yeah, and then take it over from there. That
was kind of either way.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
But yeah, Scottsburg, you're doubling back.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
So the easiest place to get off of is probably
Seymour more direct to Seymour or Columbus, either one of
those is more direct. Yeah.
Speaker 14 (28:46):
So I had some of my best my best times
driving down to Madison. I I and I probably I
can't think of the Jinkins son. He was working at
one of the dealerships way back.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Oh, I know which one you're talking about, and I'm
looking at him right now. The Jenkins had ten to
thirteen kids, I can't Yeah, and the oldest one who
was friends with my sister and my brothers, Jesse, Jesse
Junior actually because elder Jenkins was Jesse senior. Uh, he
(29:21):
was in the military and then was in Africa. I
think he passed away in Africa because they had to
send him, you know, bring him all the way back,
you know, across you know, it's across continent type thing.
But but yeah, they're they're They're a wonderful family, very nice,
and a lot of them. I believe sister Jenkins is
(29:41):
still yeah, I know she is. I know she's still. Yeah,
she's still around.
Speaker 14 (29:45):
And her the oldest girl. I can't think of her name.
She would slapping me.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Shiri. Shiri is the oldest girl, the oldest, yeah, because
I think it was Shirie and then Jesse, and then
I lost track. There's Tyrie, Shiri, Tyrie reci who is
uh let's see uh, and then a bunch of boy
I mean, like I said, there was, there was so
many of them. But the reason I know Shiri because
(30:11):
I went to school with Shiri and uh, Jesse went
to school with my younger brothers and my younger sisters
who were just below me. And after after Jesse and Shiri,
I mean, I know Tyrie because she she works in media.
Some one of them, Tyrie, Yeah, she used to work
for IB She's in Chicago now doing her own I think,
(30:32):
or she was, I thought, I know. Yes, one of
them is back in Madison running a couple of businesses there. Yes,
they still have.
Speaker 14 (30:43):
The Riata races down there that they used to have
years ago.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
The regatta regatta, Yeah they do. They just had it
over every year fourth of July weekend, they have the
Madison Regatta. I call it the five hundred on water.
Speaker 16 (30:59):
A.
Speaker 14 (31:00):
Well, I just I just thought I talked a little
old school Madison relationship.
Speaker 13 (31:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (31:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
So many people say, were there black people in Madison?
And I have to let them know that when I
was growing up, there was nothing but black people.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
That's all I saw because I lived in the black
part of the town.
Speaker 14 (31:15):
So I didn't know some of those small places. I
went southern Indiana. I went as far south as Lawrenceburg.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
No, that's that's more east.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
That's closer to Ohio.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Yeah, closer to you.
Speaker 14 (31:29):
And then I went for south is probably Madison, before
north is Monicello, Mona, Indiana Beach, and as far west
of as Terreholder. And I know that I was the
only black face of someone in town.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
No, you weren't, No, you weren't. You far from it.
You just had to know where they were. You just
had to know where it was. I'm not familiar with myland,
but I know like Jeffersonville, New Albany, Charlestown, Lawrenceburg, Seymour,
North Bernon, all of those places on you know, all
south of here, loads of black folks. You just have
(32:03):
to know where to find them, you know, over.
Speaker 14 (32:06):
When I know when I went down thirty seven to Martinsville.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Well, how you talking different?
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Now you're talking different? So yeah, indeed, indeed those sunrise
sundown sundown, that sunrise sundown. Absolutely all right, Greg, thank
you much. We'll be talking with you again soon. I'm
sure you be careful. Are you back in Saint Louis.
Speaker 14 (32:30):
No, I'm not. You know, I wouldn't leave here without
hearing Marvion stuff and Melvin Chris.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
That's right, that's right. You're going yeah, after the fair,
you're going back. Okay, Well, enjoy the show and please.
Speaker 14 (32:39):
Watch out for the heat.
Speaker 15 (32:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
I'm planning to go out. Yeah yeah, yeah, yep, yep, yep.
Indeed I can shake up. Thank you, dereg I appreciate
it all right, take care. We'll be back with more
right after this.

back to the phone lines lifestyles with Eric. How are
you today? Lifestyle?
Speaker 7 (41:49):
Hey, happy Friday.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
Have everybody doing doing great? I think it's Friday?
Speaker 7 (41:53):
So yes, unfortunately, well not unfortunately, but this is my
favorite day of the week. Of course when you're off
on weekends.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Yeah, yeah, kind of like when you're off. I like
being off on you know what.
Speaker 7 (42:05):
I just took Monday. Else you had a longer weekend.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Yeah, yeah, it's nice.
Speaker 4 (42:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
So what's going on?
Speaker 7 (42:12):
Well, uh, you know, I do YouTube. I do different
podcasts on on things that people are talking about or
trending topic. And I just kind of wanted to bring
up something that's I'm super passionate about that's angered a
lot of It's angered me and a lot of other fathers.
Or will I say me And there's a young man
(42:32):
that's promoting young men wearing skirts skirts? Just let me
there's a young man, I didn't see that.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
Wait a minute, let me hold on just second lifestyle,
because Cameron says he sent it to me. Uh, let
me look and see, Cameron, I don't remember that at all.
I would have remembered that. You sure.
Speaker 31 (42:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (42:56):
On Tuesday, I got.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
Joe here, uh schamur Mitchell on INSTRM we used to
fight dinosaurs with our bare hands.
Speaker 4 (43:08):
That's yeah. He was gonna commentate on oh.
Speaker 6 (43:12):
Yeah, yeah, yeah that video ah aspressing what Lifestyles of
Eric is talking about right now?
Speaker 2 (43:18):
Okay, go ahead, I'm sorry, I'm caught up. Now you
know what I thought? That was something else. I'm sorry,
go ahead, go ahead. My bad, My bad, all the
way through. My bad.
Speaker 7 (43:27):
So this is no slap in the face to anybody
of any whatever they're part of, or what they want
to be or what they think they are. But this
is what I'm saying. This young man is saying that
he's not g a y Okay, he's saying that he's
a straight young man, and we know what straight means.
So my thing is that you're confusing young men like
(43:49):
my son that's nineteen, and younger men that that's their
peer group. And I'm gonna say this as a dad.
It doesn't matter how much you instill things in your kids,
girl or a boy. Their peer groups are important to them.
Their age groups are important, and the people that they're
hanging around, and the people that they're seeing on these
social sites that they look up to, or whatever the
(44:10):
case is. But my thing is, why are you trying
to confuse the masses? If you're ga y, that's okay
if that's what you want to be, But you're confusing
the masses by saying it's okay for us straight Again,
we know what straight is. Straight man wearing tennis skirts
that young women wear is not what straight men normally wear.
(44:30):
So you're definitely causing the controversy. You're causing it to
go viral.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
Now.
Speaker 7 (44:35):
I don't know if this is his particular reason for
doing this, but it's angering a.
Speaker 5 (44:39):
Lot of men.
Speaker 7 (44:41):
So who is this man?
Speaker 2 (44:42):
Is he some kind of an influencer?
Speaker 7 (44:44):
Who is I don't know. It's a young guy. He's
very young, in his twenties, I think early twenties. Young man.
I don't know his name, but I've been seeing his
face on TikTok and when I go to the comments,
of course I'm saying, go ahead, do your thing, and
this and that.
Speaker 10 (45:00):
A lot of it's.
Speaker 7 (45:02):
Unfortunately, a lot of it's women saying it. This is
my other point. Can't women have something? Can't she gay
community can't listen?
Speaker 9 (45:11):
Listen?
Speaker 7 (45:12):
Isn't it okay for the gay community to have what
they have? If you're a gay man or woman and
this is what you all community do. I feel like
it's a smack and a disrespect to them because you're
saying that you're a straight male, but you're wearing skirts.
That is not fashion, folks. I want to hear what
(45:33):
somebody else has to say. And again, please do not
defend this young man, because I'm not talking about the
young man. What I'm saying is is these confusing people
by saying, hey, wait a minute, this is a new fad.
I'm straight, it's okay for young men to flex their
legs and skirts. Say it's fine.
Speaker 16 (45:49):
You know.
Speaker 7 (45:50):
Let me hear what some pastors have to say about this,
some strand up strong men. That's all I got to
say about.
Speaker 2 (45:57):
Yeah, hold on, hold on, go ahead, hold on, just second,
life size, because I have a question for you too,
But anyway, go ahead camera.
Speaker 6 (46:02):
As a father of three boys, I understand what lifestyle
Eric is saying in the sense of being a father
and understanding that the what you show your kids that
they're gonna want to emulate, right, thank.
Speaker 4 (46:13):
You, That no problem. I understand you.
Speaker 6 (46:17):
You know you're you're trying to be as neutral as
you possibly can. But that's a that's a sensitive subject
if you have boys as a father, that you're gonna
want to stand on at least you should. Now if
somebody wants to have a different opinion, you know, open form.
But I agree with you on that on that standpoint.
Speaker 7 (46:32):
Yeah, yeah, And I'm being you know, sometimes when you
say just what you just said, you get bullied online.
I've been bullied, So it's really sad that you know,
you can't even say something that is what you think
is positive and not any disrespect, but they're just there,
you know, I get bullied for saying things like what.
Speaker 9 (46:52):
You just said.
Speaker 4 (46:53):
Camera stand for something that fall froend stand.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
What are your thoughts about the Scottish kilt?
Speaker 2 (47:02):
Where hey for cent for you there? Okay, go ahead,
go ahead if.
Speaker 7 (47:07):
That's what Because there's a guy that comes in my
job and I don't know if he does it for
shock value. Of course we're not. You can sing that culture.
But he comes in with a skirt on in the wintertime.
He's a big, barely white guy, redbeard. He may be
from Ireland. Possibly, I don't know. That's his business. In America,
(47:29):
it still looks feminine, and so I hope that that
never becomes a trend in Indianapolis. For Indiana, I know
other place to do other things. People still look at
you funny, even if you're from Ireland.
Speaker 2 (47:40):
Okay, it was Scott's America, Scotland, scott Scotland. But it
says here. The Scotland traditional kilt is a garment with
a long and rich history, believed to have originated in
the sixteenth century. Uh and it's been a popular choice
for weddings and other special occasions ever since. Even the
King of the King of England wears a kill because
(48:03):
of the tradition. This guy, I'm just saying, I was
just this is not the person.
Speaker 7 (48:08):
As a community.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
That's not our Let me say that our history.
Speaker 4 (48:11):
No, it's not.
Speaker 7 (48:12):
That's there God saying it with respect. That's not what
we come from. No black men Africa, we didn't wear skirts,
We didn't wear things that made us look sort of
feminine if that wasn't.
Speaker 32 (48:23):
What we were.
Speaker 7 (48:25):
We just didn't do that, and I just hate that
people are trying to change that for us. Yeah, it's
just upsetting. As a dad man, I'm just a man.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
Yeah, I understand we are well I'm not a man,
but we're all just people with kids. Yeah, yeah, I
understand exactly what you're saying.
Speaker 5 (48:41):
That is.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
It's it's a bit odd, it really is that somebody Well,
I mean, I don't understand what the point is in
terms of saying, hey, this is I'm going to make
this a fashion trend.
Speaker 7 (48:50):
And oh he's making he's making a hell of a
statement the last two days.
Speaker 2 (48:55):
Oh really really Okay, Okay, thank you for that.
Speaker 7 (49:00):
Uh you guys, I just wanted somebody else to speak
on this. I'm gonna sit back and listen and have
a great weekend.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
All right, she too. Lifestyle, stay cool out there is
going to get hot. It's gonna get hot.
Speaker 4 (49:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
Three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten three one
seven four eight zero thirteen ten. Uh is open lines?
Uh and uh somewhat we can review. Yeah that Uh.
But one of the open lines topics we've talked about
the State Fair and now Lifestyles is talking about boys
and men wearing skirts in the USA because, like I said,
(49:31):
in other cultures, you know, in Africa, some men wear
you know, dresses, you know, long. In Arab culture, some
men wear these. Uh that amounts to like a move,
move that goes all the way down to you. So
in different cultures, this is not unusual. Here in the
United States of America, Lifestyles is concerned that it's pushing uh,
(49:52):
pretty much a gay agenda.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
Uh what do you see?
Speaker 2 (49:55):
How I saw how short those skirts?
Speaker 6 (49:57):
Okay, so come on, now, I did I understand what
you're standing as far as cultural role.
Speaker 3 (50:02):
Yeah, none of them are as short as what I'm
seeing in these pictures.
Speaker 19 (50:05):
So I get.
Speaker 9 (50:05):
I get.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
Oh, I get why he's commenting on it. I do,
I do, brother man? Go ahead?
Speaker 1 (50:10):
How are you.
Speaker 10 (50:13):
Hello?
Speaker 2 (50:13):
Yes? Go ahead?
Speaker 15 (50:15):
Uh.
Speaker 16 (50:15):
So on the topic of men wearing skirts and other cultures,
those aren't even skirts. I'm pretty sure those are. Those
are robes of some type and they're like they're.
Speaker 3 (50:26):
Kilt is a skirt kilt they killed.
Speaker 2 (50:29):
But in other in other countries, there are you know,
it's like long dresses or or you know, like I said,
for a woman. The closest equivalent would probably be like
a mumo or something like that, but yeah, or a
maxi dress or many mid d. Not a mini but
a mid D. There's there's a lot, there's a lot.
I've seen them in grocery stores and stuff around here.
Speaker 3 (50:48):
But that's their culture. These high many many mini skirts are.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Not our culture. And I get what Lifestyles is saying.
It's it's a little different. So but anyway, go ahead.
Speaker 16 (51:00):
Yes, i'd have to agree. It's not a it's not
anybody's culture unless you're like a, unless you're Scottish. If
you want to go out and wear that, go ahead
and be fucking berated.
Speaker 11 (51:11):
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Okay, okay, okay, yeah, yeah we can't we can't do that.
But I I appreciate your call, Peyton, I really do.
Uh someone, Yeah, so that wasn't brother Man. That was Peyton.
Huh yeah.
Speaker 4 (51:26):
Yeah, the phoney some weird because he was on brother
Man was on earlier.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
But oh I didn't hear brother Man earlier.
Speaker 4 (51:31):
I think the line switched. Oh, but he was Peyton.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
Yes, Peyton, that's Peyton. Okay, go ahead and Lee, go ahead.
Speaker 32 (51:38):
Thanks for taking my call. You know, we have to
really look at it for really what it is and
go behind the mask. This to me, this is my
personal opinion, is another way the enemy wants to use
folks to de masculinize.
Speaker 7 (51:54):
The man.
Speaker 22 (51:57):
Ahead.
Speaker 7 (51:57):
We have to look at that, We have to.
Speaker 32 (52:00):
That if you you know, I think I think my
brother said it. You know that if you go for anything,
you stand for nothing, stand for something, to.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
Fall for anything, Yes, stand for something or you'll fall
for anything exactly.
Speaker 32 (52:15):
And so basically you know this is this is this
is absolutely insane and nuts to me.
Speaker 3 (52:24):
You know, I wonder who's taking the bait though, who's biting?
Who's taking the bait?
Speaker 22 (52:27):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (52:28):
Is it widespread?
Speaker 33 (52:29):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (52:30):
I mean, what what's going on with this?
Speaker 32 (52:32):
I'll tell you who's taking the bait? Those those who,
let's see the best way to put this in a
nice kind of way, I guess you know, I can
only just for me, I'm thinking who may take the bait,
those who h it's just I think it's just sad man,
(52:53):
you know, those who are vulnerable, those who vulnerable.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
Well, those who want to be fashioned forward too.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
I mean, there are some people out there, and I've
grown up with them and known that whatever it is
in style, as they used to stay back and the
oh that's in style.
Speaker 3 (53:09):
They jump all over it, men and women. I've seen
it in my male and female friends.
Speaker 2 (53:14):
They jump all regardless of what it looks like, regardless
of how it makes them look. If this is what
is supposedly I in, which is supposedly in, uh, then
there we go.
Speaker 32 (53:25):
So you know, I'm I'm ot school and so just
because it's in, and I've always been I've always been
this way. Just because it's in, don't mean you've got
to be a participant of them.
Speaker 2 (53:35):
Absolutely no, no, no, absolutely not. There's just some people
that are of that mindset though. That's all I was saying.
Speaker 32 (53:40):
I understand, you know, let's get back to being original,
you know, and doing your own thing. Just because somebody
else is having a surface over there, don't mean you've
got to be a clown and go over there.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (53:52):
I agree, I agree.
Speaker 32 (53:54):
And at the end of the day, you know, I mean,
you don't have to just like the sagging of the pace,
you know, it's it was unnecessary, the sagging of the
pants unnecessary, you know. But but a lot of folks
took debate and it was unnecessary, you know, so thanks
(54:14):
for taking my call. But this is scary, it is
this is very scary. Yeah yeah, Like I said, what
is the real what is the real plan behind this?
Is it to masculize the man?
Speaker 4 (54:25):
You know?
Speaker 32 (54:25):
So you know, I mean all kinds of things are
popping up in my head because at the end of
the day, remember back in the day where folks took
debate somewhere along the line, back of the day where
we never did talk about women, and uh, you know,
and and just curse them and call them out they
name and nowadays and then all of a sudden, now
it's popular to do that.
Speaker 10 (54:47):
No you're wrong.
Speaker 2 (54:49):
Yeah, well and and then and lee. It circles back
to concern and thank you, thank you for your call.
It circles back to the concern that I've always we've
always had. I have to social media. Uh it is
a double edged sword for all the good it can do. Uh,
you know, people hopping on social media and doing things
and emulating that they can do just as much damnage.
(55:11):
So you have to have I used to hear there
was a man in the neighborhood. He used to say,
you got a brain. Use it. You got a mind,
use it, Expand it, you know, find out do things
for yourself. Don't do things just because you see what
someone else is doing. And so unless it's a part
of them, I don't understand why they would think that
that is the thing to do.
Speaker 3 (55:32):
But a couple of years ago, it wasn't.
Speaker 2 (55:33):
One of the celebrities sons wearing dress was like Will
Smith didn't one of his sons was wearing dresses or
skirts or something like that.
Speaker 3 (55:43):
Jade and yeah, Jaden Smith, yeah, uh.
Speaker 2 (55:46):
And I don't know that that caught on. But this
one you say is catching on, which is well, I
don't even know to I mean literally, I just got
hit with it on the show today.
Speaker 3 (56:00):
I don't think they look that good.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
And you know, I just don't. I don't know. I
probably need a little bit more background on my goodness.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
Anyway, I don't know. But I tell you what a
couple of things we had. The Urban League gone and
they came on to Indianapolis Urban League to explain and
ask for support in the National Urban League's declaration of
a state of Emergency in their State of Black America report,
(56:33):
which was released mid month last month. All ninety two
of the Urban League's national affiliate agencies.
Speaker 3 (56:40):
Are banding together to answer that call to action.
Speaker 2 (56:43):
So we are really excited about that, and we thank
CEO and Family or Advocate Mark CEO Tony Mason and
Mark Russell, who's head of advocacy for the Indianapoliserban League.
We thank them for coming on and explaining. We also
talked a little not maybe not this week, but late
(57:05):
last week. The NAA NAACP is going to start hosting
a series of town halls educating voters ahead of the
twenty twenty six elections. So both of our well established
and long dearly held national agencies, the national groups, the
(57:25):
NAACP and the Urban League, are springing into action.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
So we talked about that as well. I am going
to I said, I was going to do it in
our will.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
I'm going to give away the last set of tickets
that we have for the Gospel Music Festival featuring Marvin
Sap and Melvin Chris Bell the third I'm going to
do it right at the top of the air. We're
going to take quick break, so sometime after two o'clock
I'm gonna get but don't start calling until I give
you the number in terms of which caller it will be. Okay,
(57:55):
give it.
Speaker 26 (57:56):
I don't start a light of it.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna do it as soon
as we come back from the break. But if you call,
if you called before I give you the number, like
caller one, two three, If you call before I do that,
you're not going to win.
Speaker 3 (58:06):
So hang up, let's do the break.
Speaker 2 (58:09):
When we come back after the break, I'm going to
give you the number, then you can call. I'm trying
to tell y'all how to have your best chance of winning.

Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
So please make sure that you take good care of
yourself and that you you prepare for the intense heat
that has been forecast for that day. The intense heat
that has been forecast for that day. The Gospel Music
Festival at the Indiana State Fair. Coming up Sunday. These
two tickets which we are about to give away are
(01:04:14):
for a very special reserved section courtesy of Praise Indy,
a very special reserve section two seats, two seats for that.
So at this point in time, I will take caller
number eight, Caller number eight. If you are caller number
eight and you are calling in and you happen to
(01:04:36):
be caller number eight, you will win those special reserved seating,
that special reserve seating, those specially reserved seats just for you.
You will be our final winner of the week for
the Gospel Day reserved tickets. Good luck Caller number eight.
If you are caller number eight, I wish you luck.
(01:04:58):
Okay three for eight zero thirteen ten, three one seven
four eight zero thirteen ten. Again, today, as we were
saying open lines and wee can review, just wanted to
give you a couple of other things in terms of
the week in review. On Monday, the City County Council
approved an extended curfew measure for a youth that passed,
(01:05:21):
I do believe unanimously, but anyway, it passed.
Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
The majority of it passed.
Speaker 2 (01:05:25):
They are going to counselors are going to vote later
on a parental finding provision where parents could be fined
up to fifteen hundred dollars for repeated curfew violations. That
is still in process, so that'll be decided at a
later date. But what they did vote on, what they
did approve was an extended curfew policy now for the
(01:05:50):
city of Indianapolis. That went into effect as soon as
the mayor signed it. I didn't hear of an official signing,
but the belief was that he was going to sign
it within a day or two and the council meeting
and that approval happened on Monday, the council meeting and
that approval happened on that particular Monday, So that was
(01:06:12):
great and that went well, and so we'll see how
it goes. So far, there haven't been very many more
perfew violations downtown or elsewhere that we know of, and
that was just based on a crackdown. So now with
the crackdown and these extended hours, perhaps there can be
(01:06:34):
some good results coming about as a result of our
young people and curfew violations. We still very much need
something for them to do in a place for them
to go to enjoy themselves, because they're very sociable people.
We just don't want them getting in to groups where
folks are shooting and killing. In addition to thirteen twelve
(01:06:57):
year olds and thirteen year olds being out into the
middle of the night, that just isn't acceptable. So City
County Council did act, and so we'll see how things
go from here. And again a measure that would find
parents up to fifteen hundred dollars for repeated violations. That
(01:07:17):
is going to be voted on at a later point
in time. Also on Monday, at the City County Council building,
City County Council meeting in the building, you know, you
know they were there. Mayorhawk Sad unveiled his one point
seven billion dollar budget for the City of Indianapolis one
point seven billion dollars. It has been described as primarily flat.
(01:07:42):
It looks according to Council majority leader Maggie Lewis, it
looks to be balanced.
Speaker 3 (01:07:49):
The only areas where there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
Was an increase in spending probably are the two most important,
and that is public safety, which is fire and police.
There may have been one more that I'm not remembering,
so please excuse that if I am omitting something, but
that they're now going to go to work on it
and so taking it apart. Committee work on that budget
(01:08:16):
is well underway. I think they had the first meeting wednesday,
So you can go on Indie dot gov for the schedule,
that schedule and find out what's going on with the
uh with the mayor's budget in these committee hearings. So
it's going to take a couple of months and we'll
see what shakes out. We do have a winner, our
final state fair winner. Everyone else, I'm sorry, you can
(01:08:40):
hang up now, but we do have a winner. She
was caller number eight. The winner is Alisha Howell. Alisha, congratulations,
thank you so much. Oh well, you're so welcome. Pardon
what'd you say?
Speaker 14 (01:08:58):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
Good, good good?
Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
Well?
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Where happy you won as well?
Speaker 10 (01:09:02):
Were you?
Speaker 2 (01:09:05):
Were you planning on going anyway? With or without the
free tickets? Well, a reserve seating, I should say.
Speaker 11 (01:09:13):
Yeah, right, that's the key word, reserve seating. Uh huh,
I plan on going.
Speaker 32 (01:09:17):
To the fair.
Speaker 14 (01:09:18):
I was hindering about the weather, you know, the key.
Speaker 11 (01:09:22):
But I was going to go after church, you.
Speaker 14 (01:09:25):
Know, and enjoying myself my family.
Speaker 8 (01:09:29):
So yeah, for two tickets, right, yeah, two tickets to
to to to two tickets and yeah, and the like
I said, especially reserve seating, special guest of Praise Indy
right there below the stage or just beneath the stage,
so you'll get an up close and personal uh advantage
(01:09:52):
point that others simply will not get.
Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
Plus you'll be able to sit down. You know, a
lot of folks have to either stand you know what
I'm saying, stand up or what have. You'll be able
to sit dow down in a special area. And you
talked about the heat, and I'm sure you're going to
prepare for that because we want everyone to stay safe
in the heat if it does indeed arrive as intensely
as the weather forecasters are saying it will, I think
(01:10:15):
a high of ninety three. So question sure.
Speaker 32 (01:10:20):
Okay, so you're saying that I won't have to bring
any type of cheer.
Speaker 3 (01:10:27):
Yeah, it's seating two reserve seats.
Speaker 2 (01:10:28):
Absolutely absolutely does this admission as well to compare. I mean,
I don't know, I know, I think they're just simply tickets.
I think they're simply tickets. So but but yeah, so yeah, yeah,
(01:10:49):
I'm checking here right now. That's why I was No,
I don't see that at all. Nope, nope, just p yeah,
just the tickets. But again when Rita and David Rita
Green and our promotions director David Gray were here, uh,
they were saying that it's it's you'll know that you're
in a special area, so you certainly will not have
(01:11:11):
to bring your own chair, certainly not.
Speaker 14 (01:11:15):
Do I pick up the tickets today?
Speaker 11 (01:11:17):
Or how.
Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
Will she received the tickets? H Cameron.
Speaker 4 (01:11:25):
Email? Did Jimmy? Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
Did you You're going to receive them via email?
Speaker 11 (01:11:32):
Okay?
Speaker 9 (01:11:33):
Great?
Speaker 16 (01:11:33):
Okay, Well today sometime over the weekend more unlikely today.
Speaker 4 (01:11:38):
I mean, I don't I'm not controlling. No today, we'll
get today.
Speaker 2 (01:11:42):
Yeah, it should be no today and at the very
very latest tomorrow. I think they're going to get them
all wrapped up today. That yeah, they'll get everybody wrapped
up today. So you you gave Cameron your email address?
Speaker 34 (01:11:54):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
Okay, And yeah, that's how they'll come. You know, tickets
nowadays are coming digitally.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
Uh like that.
Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
It's uh, I think it's simpler on some ends and
on others it's like, okay, so.
Speaker 32 (01:12:08):
Bright, that's definitely how they come. And to the master aunt.
Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
Yeah, yes, ma'am, enjoy the show. You enjoy all right,
but who are you gonna take with you? I forgot
to ask.
Speaker 8 (01:12:24):
Most likely it'll be either a member from my church,
uh huh or it maybe it just depends on.
Speaker 11 (01:12:32):
Who available, who wants to provide the heat, who wants
to enjoy the show? Good?
Speaker 3 (01:12:39):
Good, that's a good checklist, right there, good one.
Speaker 7 (01:12:43):
So well.
Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
I enjoy and thank you so much for listening, and
definitely thank you for calling. We really appreciate you. Have
a good time. Thank you, thank you, You're welcome. Yeah,
and so uh yeah, I think that they're getting everybody's
tickets and everything cleared out uh today.
Speaker 16 (01:13:01):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:13:02):
And it is a not not much but just a
bit of a process when when it goes online, because
when what you do, Cameron, when you send it over,
it goes through a digital clearinghouse and then back to
the winner, which is why we request your email address.
Speaker 4 (01:13:18):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
Some some events and activities are ticketed like physical tickets.
Speaker 3 (01:13:23):
Others are digital.
Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
This campaign this year for the Indiana State Fair have
been one hundred percent digital, so uh therein like we're
not trying to you know, get information on you or anything.
We're just trying to get the tickets to you. So
some like it some don't you know. I'm I can ease,
I can. I can take it either way. I just
have to have done it for a time or two
(01:13:44):
before I could. You know, like my two young adults,
they zip right through those things. Some of it I
get lost in, but but it's all good. And then
when you when you go there, you can either have
you can print it out or you know, you can
print out the ticket, or you can just have it
on your phone, pull it up and then they'll scan
it there at the door. So there we go and
(01:14:04):
scan it for her special special seating to be exact.
So there it is there it is three one, seven, four, eight,
zero thirteen ten. Also today, and by the way, we're
looking for our sports guy, Danny Bridges.
Speaker 3 (01:14:20):
I believe he's going to be coming in shortly.
Speaker 2 (01:14:22):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
But today, for those of you out there.
Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
Who have an interest in this, today is the ninetieth
anniversary of Social Security. Yeah, today is the ninetieth anniversary, so.
Speaker 3 (01:14:42):
It says here. President Franklin D.
Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act ninety years ago to
provide economic stability to older people and create a sound
economic structure. Now, social Security currently provides benefits to almost
sixty nine million Americans every month and is a major
(01:15:04):
income source for those over sixty five. But guess what,
it's facing a looming shortfall in funds. Not to mention
attacks by the party in charge, the let's see the
go broke date for Social Security has been moved up
to twenty thirty four in Recent legislation like the Social
(01:15:24):
Security Fairness Act and the new tax law signed by
Trump have impacted the program's financial stability. Let's hope we
get it back on sound financial ground. Privatizing Social Security
has been a contentious issue, with Treasury Secretary Scott descent
or Bestent mentioning the possibility of Trump accounts as a
back door for privatization. So let's hope and pray that
(01:15:48):
none of that happens. Can you imagine the nightmare that
might be created with Social Security if they go to
Trump accounts? Crazy? Various proposals have been suggested to address
Social securities challenges, including reducing benefits for wealthy retirees and
increasing minimum benefits and pursuing partial privatization.
Speaker 3 (01:16:11):
So there's a whole lot of.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
Information that was released regarding today being the ninetieth anniversary
of social Security. Let's help social Security last another ninety years,
because it truly has been a godsend for so many
people over the years, and you know certainly don't want
it to go away. Let's go ahead and Cameron take

And we're back with community connection with us right now
for the next segment. Y'all know the music. Hey hey hey,
hey hey, here he comes, here he comes. Danny Bridges,
sports writer with the Indianapolis Recorder. Danny, welcome back. How
are you doing.
Speaker 10 (01:22:37):
I'm doing fine. I'm a little late, but late. I
will I will just simp say that it's good to
be here.
Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
Yeah, it's Friday, so we're not late.
Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
We're just right on time. Whatever we get. So what's
been going on? You know, Cameron and I, Danny were
I guess we can start off with the latest your
latest column for the Indianapolis Recorder and the title Caitlin
Clark should not play the rest of the season. We
both read it and it's it's very good as available
right now because the latest edition of the Recorder is out.
(01:23:11):
So what propelled you to write that, write about that.
Speaker 3 (01:23:15):
This particular you know, this particular edition.
Speaker 10 (01:23:19):
Well, you had said yourself a couple of times you
were wondering if she could actually return this season and
I thought more and more about it, you know, based
on that a little bit as well as my own observations,
and you know, it's sad because there's no doubt in
my mind she came back and attempted a recovery too
(01:23:39):
early and reaggravated that, saying and so that's the really
and I just believe that because there is such a
really world class medical staff in place at Pacers Sports Entertainment,
which would obviously take care of the Pacers the fever
as well as the G League tree as well, that
(01:24:02):
the recommendation from them to play would only come after
one of two things. Extensive rehab and testing. I don't
know how that works. I really don't know how you
test for that, and also relying on the athlete themselves
to say, hey, I feel good or I don't feel
any pain, or you know, something of that nature. So
(01:24:24):
if I had to guess, and that's what I'm doing here,
I think her competitive drive and the fact that she
does not like to sit down at all will alone
be injured, drove her to think she could do it,
and as a result, we see what happened. But with
as few games left in the season as there are,
there's no point and this is not it's not a
(01:24:45):
championship roster.
Speaker 7 (01:24:46):
No, just fol the tent.
Speaker 10 (01:24:48):
Fol the tent. Let her heal and make sure this
nagging thing doesn't become a phonic thing and a cute thing,
and let her be healthy again as far as her
abdominal health is concerned.
Speaker 2 (01:25:01):
I would agree one thousand percent on that there's no
point in bringing her back. You know, they're not they
they like I said the other day, they may limp
into the playoffs, but they're not going to go very far.
They're not.
Speaker 3 (01:25:11):
They're just not.
Speaker 2 (01:25:13):
Uh so uh and and if they do, I would
happily be proven wrong. Gladly to be proven wrong. I
would love to be wrong about it too, I tell you.
But you know, the main thing is to heal and
to get better, and like you say, she's probably going
to do that. They played tonight, they're in action tonight.
(01:25:34):
Who are they against tonight? Cameron? Do you remember Connecticut
might be Phoenix?
Speaker 31 (01:25:41):
Is it?
Speaker 14 (01:25:41):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
Not Phoenix, Minnesota? Minnesota?
Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
Now Phoenix Mercury Washington. Okay, well I was real close there,
Washington mystics, So okay, yeah, uh what what kind of
feedback have you gotten on that. I know you say
sometimes people get you know all about some of your problems.
Have you gotten any feedback?
Speaker 10 (01:26:05):
That one the only I've had since I hit sin
that thing or since it was published. But I've had
I just checked before I called you. I've had one
hundred and twenty seven emails who which I think is
outrageously high for this particular Sebing only had this. I've
(01:26:26):
only had one time where I had more emails, and uh,
that was a column that I wrote about how I
thought the Pacers should either get with it or put
the franchise I for seal. That was several years ago. Oh,
several years ago. That was a long time, but they
were admired in mediocre and they've been a heck of
(01:26:47):
a job getting back since then. But that aside, I
did account last night. I was at one hundred and
seventeen last night, so I've had ten more to day,
and about one hundred and seventeen that I had, it
was about four out of every five was telling me
how crazy I am. I thought, well, he knew that.
(01:27:07):
But there were some people that were attacking her a
bit in terms of questioning her mindset. Made some references
and some nicknames that I didn't appreciate, and I just
feel like this, it's okay to roots, it's okay to boo,
but let's be civil about it. I honestly feel And
(01:27:29):
the more and more I think about it, the more
and more I believe that so many people live vicariously
through their favorite athlete, and there I would say, you
need to be careful with that sometimes, and you need
to think about these are human beings and a very complex,
difficult business situation, and that's what professional sports is. It's
(01:27:51):
not a hobby, it's not a job. It's a job
in terms of contractualation, but it's a business and it's
a multi billion dollar business with a lot of moving parts.
So I don't think that for a minute she has
done anything wrong other than being perhaps overzealous about getting back.
(01:28:11):
But take a step back, evaluate it. As young as
she is with the future that is really really bright.
You know, use the off season to not only rehab,
but get in that weight room, get a little stronger,
come back with a little bit of a more of
a chip on your shoulder and see what you can do.
Speaker 2 (01:28:30):
Then yeah, yeah, she definitely needs to chisel a little more.
Uh yeah, get bigger and gets stronger. Yeah, and not bigger,
meaning you know, she's not gonna get taller, but you
know what I mean built, you know, bulk up, and
she's not gonna she's not.
Speaker 10 (01:28:48):
Her fat content of her body's not gonna go up.
As we're talking about getting stronger, you know, putting on maybe.
I don't know how many pounds that means to a
lady of her stature, five or ten maybe, but about
eighty percent of that hopefully being muscular. So she is
somebody who's smart enough to recognize that herself. And I'm
going to say this now, I would be surprised if
(01:29:10):
she doesn't come back in better shape, had to show
next season the training camp than she is right now.
Speaker 2 (01:29:17):
Well, I would think that that would be the best. Yeah,
wouldn't that be in her best interest to do that?
Speaker 10 (01:29:23):
Well, be in everyone's best interest, is certainly hers. I mean, look,
this situation that she's created and walked into both at
the same time, is one where it's impossible to please everyone.
It's impossible to win every game, and she is the
darling of the franchise as well as the local and
to some extent, the national media. If she wants to
(01:29:44):
be the face of the de Wie NBA, she's gonna
have to step it up even more. So I think
that's possible. And I also believe that she will have
more respect from her teammates and her peers if she
does that.
Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:29:58):
Yeah, very very good points, all very good points.
Speaker 2 (01:30:01):
And uh, Cameron and I were saying that the article
was just kind of at one point in time or
or another. Uh, those are all points that we both
have made throughout the show. So I think we're all, uh,
we're all of one mind there because I agree.
Speaker 10 (01:30:20):
Yeah, I get a tremendous amount of money for that,
for those columns, so I'll make sure that caut you
guys in as to writers, Okay, okay, well.
Speaker 3 (01:30:29):
Thank you so very much. We sure and certainly love
those those cuts.
Speaker 2 (01:30:32):
Those are great. Those are great. So Danny the yesterday
was the last day of Colts camp. Their preseason home
opener is tomorrow.
Speaker 27 (01:30:44):
What what say you?
Speaker 9 (01:30:45):
What?
Speaker 32 (01:30:45):
What do we have?
Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
What are we going to be looking at?
Speaker 4 (01:30:48):
Well?
Speaker 10 (01:30:48):
I wouldn't look for too many surprises tomorrow, preseason beings,
just that a little bit more intensity perhaps in the
first game or the other organized practice yesterday. I don't
know exactly how well Anthony Richardson's non throwing finger injury
has recovered. I think he'll be fine with that as
(01:31:11):
a change the opening day. He is the starting quarterback
for this team, and I think the Colts and I
saw someone else made a point to write about this today,
but I got to say his name because I don't
even get mad at me, but I agree with him
for the record, it's time for them to tell the
public and name their starter, and most teams do that now,
They've still got some time to do it, and perhaps
(01:31:32):
I'm wrong about how long they will take to do such,
but he's the starter until he self destructs, and that's
just the way it's going to be. That's the way
it was intended to be. So hopefully he can remain healthy.
And I had a couple of people sent me some
respondents about, well, he's injured again. Well, that was a
tremendously heavy hit that he took and they went to
(01:31:56):
the ground and his hand, you know, the impact, all
that came together. That's not something that he injured himself
playing billiards or something, Okay, So I mean, let's be
realistic about that as well. That was a savage hit
that came from the blind site, and you know what,
that's the NFL in a nutshell. But the bottom line is,
I do believe he's going to be healthy enough. It's
(01:32:17):
the non throwing hand. And I also think that he's
the starter until he ploys himself out of a job.
Speaker 3 (01:32:25):
So a quick question, why do you think that there?
Speaker 2 (01:32:27):
If he's such a clear choice for starter, Well, why
the mystery and dragging it out as long as they are?
Speaker 10 (01:32:34):
Good question? I can only think that maybe perhaps that's
a message to him. Maybe they do believe that the
longer they wait to do that, it'll put a little
bit more pressure on even Daniel Jones to play even
a little bit better. He's had his moments and can't.
But I don't know what goes inside the mind of
Shane steike In and Chris Ballard. I do know that
(01:32:54):
Ballard is clearly on a hot seat. Maybe the way
he approaches it is such. There's also possible they've already
they've already spoken to Richardson and just haven't released it
to the public. So it's hard to say that's an
excellent question or observation. But uh, I don't believe this
the Cults are gonna do whatever they feel a lot.
It'll be specific Ballard psyched. We're gonna do whatever they
(01:33:15):
can this season football games. If that means giving him
upright and healthy and trying to support him with the
best possible cast around him and do everything possible to
make it a positive environment for him, still be it.
But if they have to make a change with Daniel
Jones for either a non productive Anthony Richardson or a injury,
(01:33:36):
they're going to be prepared to do it.
Speaker 3 (01:33:38):
How many quarterbacks do you think the Cults are going
to carry this year?
Speaker 2 (01:33:41):
Three? You think I would?
Speaker 10 (01:33:43):
I would maybe Riley Leonard on the practice squad. I
couldn't see him getting a roster spot. I just don't
think that there's a need to have more than two
quarterbacks healthy for a regular season game. If you've got
one on the practice squad, you can immediately activate. Then
someone could say, lot if you put a second string
guy in and he gets injured, well that is possible.
(01:34:04):
It's improbable, but it is possible. I think they keep
rather learned on the practice squad, that would be my guess.
But practice squad positions are very valuable to the NFL.
Team for the obvious reasons. So how that transaction works
and how they move people around remains to be seen.
But I like Riley Leonard as a practice squad player.
(01:34:28):
He played decent in that first game. He'll probably get
a few snaps tomorrow in the second half, I would think.
And you know what, I didn't think he was going
to be a great quarterback at Notere today, but he
played pretty good football for him last year. He had
a really good season in terms of decision making more importantly,
what not to do with the football, throw it out
of bounds before you take a sack, blide when you're running,
(01:34:51):
the kind of things that Anthony Richison could probably pick
up a little bit on.
Speaker 2 (01:34:56):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I have a caller that has a
quite for you.
Speaker 3 (01:35:01):
This is mister Russell. Mister Russell, go ahead.
Speaker 9 (01:35:04):
Hey, folks, just wondering about the college of the coach lately,
particularly talking about the quarterback situation, and it seems like
there's a lot of focus on the quarterback position, as
(01:35:25):
it should be, but you know a lot of times
there's not enough focus on the line, and I think
there should be more focused on the line because that
hit that Richardson took to me that was kind of
inexcusable that that man could come through like that and
hit him. And what do you think about the coach's line.
Speaker 10 (01:35:52):
Well, first of all, that's an actualent observation, Sir number two.
I do believe that they have to play better football
at term to the offense, whether than they did last
ye even though it last year at times they played
solid football, but both sides of the football, the Colts
have had some question marks heading into training camp. This
draft produced a quality tied end and they've they've also
(01:36:14):
got a second round player. I think we'll make an
impact for them. But you make an excellent point. There's
a number of areas of concern on this team. Quarterback
is always going to be the focal point because it's
not a good one, you're really out of the game.
But that's an excellent point. And certainly the offensive line
has to play better football for the Colts to be successful.
Speaker 9 (01:36:36):
But I just think that the coverage in this area,
they don't want to give the line and up, they
don't give them credit and they don't give them brain.
I think they need to focus on the line, which
is some of the flashy players.
Speaker 32 (01:36:56):
So I would hope that.
Speaker 10 (01:36:59):
Well, that's an interesting point. I'll just say this, that
the offensive line doesn't play well, they're gonna get some coverage.
They're not going to be happy with.
Speaker 3 (01:37:09):
The media coverage, mister Russell.
Speaker 10 (01:37:11):
Exactly, exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
Yeah, we you know, we we.
Speaker 9 (01:37:16):
It seems like around time zone. I know, the time
can strength what they seem to hit with a low
hang a lot of time.
Speaker 10 (01:37:29):
Well, I'm not army on that one. Okay, iry to
be attractive sometimes the low hanging fruitcase good as well.
But to your point, in an overall sense, clearly, there
are a number of things for this team to improve
upon if they're going to be a playoff team, if
(01:37:51):
they're going to you know, win a playoff game. You know,
and those are at this point hypotheticals. But if those
things are going to happen, improving in the secondary has
to be obvious, and improving on the offensive line has
to be obvious as well. So your point is well
taken about the old line.
Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
All right, all right, stay stay out of the heat. Indeed,
thank you, mister Rustle. And you know that's that's one
of the good things about Although I don't know what
do you do you think the roof will be open tomorrow?
Speaker 16 (01:38:24):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:38:25):
Did with the excessive heat that we have, or you
think it'd be closed?
Speaker 10 (01:38:28):
That's a good question. If I was a fan sitting
in the stands, I would want to be closed.
Speaker 5 (01:38:34):
You know.
Speaker 10 (01:38:34):
I don't like I don't like warm weather at all.
So it's the winter time, right.
Speaker 9 (01:38:40):
But I don't know.
Speaker 10 (01:38:42):
That's a good question. They'll announce that probably if they
haven't already today, perhaps tonight or earler in the morning,
I mean before the game is played. But if I'm
a fan, I don't want to sit in the sun
on a hot day. Can remember that's a one o'clock
kick tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:38:56):
Yeah, I was just thinking about that, and that would
be who going into the heat of the day and
sunny as well, no clouds. Yeah, I'd keep doing you,
I'd keep the roof closed.
Speaker 5 (01:39:08):
How many?
Speaker 2 (01:39:08):
I wonder how many times a year that thing is
actually open? I mean, it's it's a nice luxury to have,
but seldom, if ever used. I'm thinking, because I just
don't know, maybe once or twice a season. Is that
an exactation?
Speaker 10 (01:39:20):
Times a couple of times? And then I think, I
think on a nice day, let's let's say if we
could pick the weather, how about sixty five degrees literally
no humidity and a little bit of sunshine. I mean,
I've seen that rip the open before, where people were
in the direct sunlight for half the game, and that's
that's not something I would appreciate. On the other hand,
(01:39:42):
you know, I don't know who makes that decision. I
think historically the late Jim Mersey had a hand in that,
to say the least. But I don't know if that
becomes a tradition as far as the new ownership is concerned,
or have been delegated to operations on a wendy day,
maybe you want it closed from a stamp or the
kicking game.
Speaker 4 (01:40:01):
But that's an.
Speaker 10 (01:40:02):
Excellent point you make. But I'm going to predict its
close simply because we're gonna have warm weather.
Speaker 3 (01:40:08):
Indeed, and very quickly. Danny, I know you pay attention
to things like this.
Speaker 2 (01:40:12):
Has the impact been felt in the Cults organization regarding
Jim Mersey's departure and his daughter's takeover taking the reins
of the organization or is it still I don't know
in transition. I guess I'm wondering if they put their
fingerprint on anything, just yet.
Speaker 10 (01:40:33):
Well, that's an excellent question as well. I spent some
time at the Cold complex. I guess I call a
business matter as far as the credentialing process was concerned,
and talk with the long term employee that particular day,
and I told her that I was very impressed with
what I've seen of Jim Mersey's daughter. I saw yesterday.
(01:40:56):
She was interacting with fans, signing things, talking to them.
I just think she's a bright lady and that is
something that I think will serve her well. As far
as her impact, I think it remains to be seen,
but I think she's got some excellent people around her.
I wrote that when she took the reins. I think
(01:41:16):
Pete Ward is one of the brightest, most competent executives
in the league. He has been with the franchise since
they came from Baltimore. She couldn't have a better colleague,
a better advisor, a better mentor if needed. And I
just believe that that's a huge asset for her to
have as well. But I just think time will tell.
(01:41:37):
I mean, that's a cliche, I get it, but it's
a tremendous challenge. But it's also a tremendous opportunity and
there's no doubt about it. The spotlight's honor and it's
time to play football.
Speaker 7 (01:41:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:41:48):
Well, one thing I like about her, especially Jim.
Speaker 2 (01:41:51):
Jim had a family very young by you know, I
think in his early twenties, if I'm not mistaken, and
so she's not a baby. I mean she's in her
mid forties right or early to mid forties, and she's
been with her father and around the organization since her twenties,
and so it's not like she's just stepping into something
that is brand spanking new. I mean, she's probably fifteen
(01:42:14):
to twenty years in, maybe not at the level that
she's at now, but certainly climbing the ladder the past
fifteen to twenty years or so. So she's not really
what you would call a neophyte, not exactly new. She
has the age she has, I think the experience, and
I think the transition is going to be a lot
smoother than a lot of people believe.
Speaker 10 (01:42:33):
Well. I think she's a straightforward businesswoman. I think that's
going to serve her well. I also believe that the
society we live in, and some people will argue to
the contrary, but I will challenge him to think differently.
It's always a different set of rules and a different
standard for a lady in an executive position to live
(01:42:54):
up to. That's not fair, but that's the way this
world works. I don't believe that's going to be a
headrance to her. I believe she's capable, she's articulate, she's intelligent.
I think she means business. And I've said this before
on this show. If I'm Chris Ballard and I'm Shane Stiking,
I go to work every day thinking about I've got
(01:43:15):
a new owner that I need to work with, and
not only work with, but impress upon her that we're
moving in the same direction. And the results will ultimately
tell well, I'm back next year or not. I mean,
those guys are they're playing for the future, their future.
Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
Indeed, indeed, anything on the Pacers front at all.
Speaker 10 (01:43:37):
No, I don't think there's much we could talk about
other than the fact that you know, they they appear
to be said in the middle, you know, with they
believe that Isaiah Jackson and Wiseman both can recover from
those injuries, and if they can, they'll perhap Center by committee.
And you know, I think the best to settle. Everyone
(01:43:57):
recognizes that they're starting guard is not going to play
this year, and that doesn't have to be a death. No,
it'll make things a lot different. But I think Rick
Carlisle understands basketball well enough to know two things. Number One,
this is my roster. It's not going to change dramatically
before opening up training camp. And number two, he's got
(01:44:21):
a lot of guys coming back who know his system,
who can understand what his expectations are, especially on the
defensive end. They weren't a great defensive team last year,
but they were better than they were the year before,
and when they finally got together around the first of January,
they played fairly good defense, especially at home. And that's
the thing in the NBA. You've got to hold your
(01:44:43):
own on the road. You have to take care of
business at home, that's automatic, but you've got to hold
your own on the road.
Speaker 32 (01:44:49):
I think the.
Speaker 10 (01:44:50):
Pacers can be at least a one hundred basketball team.
There are some who think it will be better than
there's some say no, they're not going to be that good.
Five hundred will get you in the playoffs. And until
I'm shown differently, I think they're a playoff team.
Speaker 2 (01:45:03):
Yeah. You know what we haven't talked about for a
long time, and it's one of the greatest, one of
the best family fun things to do, especially during the
summer months, is the Indianapolis Indians.
Speaker 3 (01:45:14):
Uh, victory Field.
Speaker 2 (01:45:15):
How are they?
Speaker 3 (01:45:16):
How are they doing this year?
Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
They sure on a nice show. I mean it's always fun.
Speaker 10 (01:45:21):
I haven't paid a lot of attention, to be honest
with you, but I do know this. They promote every
night because in my league baseball, you have to. And
of course on Tuesday night there's a number of items
on the menu that are two dollars fireworks every Friday night,
the liping it on the head about a family event.
Speaker 16 (01:45:40):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (01:45:41):
I'll ask your producer and board operator to look up quickly.
What their record is. I can't even tell you, yeah,
because I've been Yeah, yeah, I've been. I've been focused
on of other things. I think I think they're around
five hundred if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (01:45:54):
Okay, Cameron, can you check on the Indians record if
you don't mind Indianapolis indian Jim, what there?
Speaker 3 (01:46:01):
I think they're yeah, right in the middle too.
Speaker 2 (01:46:04):
This is one of the first years that we've gotten
this late in the summer that I haven't been to
a game, so I got to get over there. Uh
and see because you your why don't you do your
show live from over there?
Speaker 10 (01:46:15):
All even show up? Need a odd dog with you.
Speaker 2 (01:46:18):
I have to check with sales and see if that
might be a possible that.
Speaker 10 (01:46:22):
That's a good opportunity. We'll go over there at two
o'clock and then we'll wait for the game to start afterwards,
and who knows what kind of trouble we can get
an after your show before the game starts. I think
they're around I think they're around five hundred, but I
can't swear to that.
Speaker 2 (01:46:36):
Yeah, I the last time, well not the last time,
the time before the last I was there. Last time
I had really great seats. But the time before that,
it was a mid afternoon, a midday game, and we
were a bunch of us were invited to a suite.
Speaker 16 (01:46:50):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:46:51):
And that was sweet, that was fine, That was really
a nice time, you know.
Speaker 4 (01:46:55):
Twenty six and sixteen, Hold on there?
Speaker 16 (01:46:57):
What?
Speaker 4 (01:46:58):
Yeah? Twenty six and sixteen.
Speaker 10 (01:47:00):
Yeah, well, I apologize. I understold them, you know, you
talk about it having a good time there. I can
still for twenty dollars sit somewhere and have a cold
one and watch the game by myself. And I need
to get out there and do that at least once.
But I'm not a reptile anymore. I can't be out
in the heat all day. No, no, I'm gonna I'm
(01:47:21):
gonna have to find myself a day when there's maybe
sixty five degrees in cloud cover, sneak in, do my thing,
and stay as long as the game is still competitive.
But it's a great park. They keep it crystal clean.
It's just a really great atmosphere. And again I used
(01:47:42):
to say this occasionally the Dinnapolis Motor Speedway. The Indiana
Pacers as well as the Dinnapolis Colts can take a
page out of their book and how to promote because
every game they're promoting something different, trying to get you
to come to the ball game, trying to get you
to an experience the well you'll come back to another game.
Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
It's always it's always a fun time and there's always
a little bit of something for everybody if you think
about it. I know that's an overused phrase, but truly
it is. And yeah, I'm gonna have to pick an
evening game or like you say, a cooler day twenty
six and sixteen, they're cooking. They're cooking.
Speaker 10 (01:48:20):
Yeah, ten games that that's playoff terrofory for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:48:24):
Yeah, we can hope.
Speaker 2 (01:48:25):
So, speaking of playoffs or championships or what have you,
you called this one from day one. You said you
didn't see how it wouldn't be, and that meaning Alex
Plow being the IndyCar champ and there's still two raceists
to go.
Speaker 3 (01:48:39):
You said this at the very beginning of the season
that he is to take So he's a champ.
Speaker 10 (01:48:45):
He's a special talent. I've been watching that sport for
upwards of fifty years, and I would simply say that
when you think about dread indie car drivers, AJ Foyd,
Mario Andretti certainly come off the top of the list.
Scott Dixon and now maybe he's go in Rick Meres there.
As far as his prowess at the Annapolis Motor Speedway,
(01:49:07):
alancer sor he's within that rarefied air. He's now won
four championships, three out of the last or two out
of the last three. He's got a phenomenal team behind him.
I mean, I think it's trying to give Chip Ganassi
some credit too. He has for a long time been
a premier owner of an organization that has produced extremely
(01:49:31):
impressive results. Let's not forget he also was a very
successful nasscar owner at one time as well. He was
juggling both those things in addition to endurance and sports
car racing. Chick's done it all. He's a likable sort.
Speaker 16 (01:49:44):
He's like me.
Speaker 10 (01:49:45):
He's a Pittsburgh Rates fan. There's three of us in Annapolis,
and I would simply say this that Alex Plow has
demonstrated the type of talent, the type of tenacity on
track that is very rare, and that handful of names
I just named off I think proves that. So I
(01:50:05):
do believe though that Milwaukee coming up next weekend and
then the following weekend the closeout race which will be
Labor Day weekend in Nashville, do still have some value.
But the championship balloons is deflated, and I guess they'll
wait till Nashville to give him the trophy and all
the confetti. But it's been a tremendous thing to watch
(01:50:25):
and he is right so to be mentioned with the
great ones that I just rattled off there, he is
a special talent, and he's so young. It's it's really
gonna be interesting to see how many titles he wins
before he hangs it up.
Speaker 2 (01:50:40):
Yeah, well you called it. I have to give you
that when you called it all the way down the line.
So yeah, good for you.
Speaker 10 (01:50:46):
That was an easy one for me. I think he's
just because he's just that good. I mean, that's I mean,
unless the guy was to break his leg, and I
never wanted a driver to be injured, you know, he's
going to be the guy to beat. And I tell
you what, I think he's like that beat in Milwaukee
in Nashville as well.
Speaker 32 (01:51:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:51:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:51:03):
It's certainly so much safer though, now, isn't it. Danny Racing,
you just don't hear as much. Used to be quite
a bit you'd hear about crashes and deaths and things
of that nature. Not to say that they don't crashes
don't still happen, but what you know, I hats off
to technology and everything else that has made it a
(01:51:25):
lot safer for people to be driving at breakneck speeds
and not to get hurt as badly as they have
been in the past. Well, that's a good thing.
Speaker 10 (01:51:34):
The great observation the Hall of Famer Johnny Ruptford. Once
I asked him, I said, are these cars too easy
to drive in terms of downforce and how they work?
He's he looked at me. He kind of greed. He said,
there's still reckon them, ain't they? And he hit me
on the shower and he walked away. Now to your point,
to your point, yes, technology has evolved to the point
(01:51:56):
where the top of the car, you know, where the
driver is sitting it at, as well as the front
end of the car where their feet are and legs
are at, have been enhanced dramatically. I'm amazed, to say
the least, to see some of the crashes that have
occurred in the last five years, maybe ten years, with
this chassis being a similar Yeah. Yeah, they get up,
(01:52:16):
maybe they lamp a little bit, maybe they're a little sore,
but you know, we don't have fractured bones, we don't
have lacerations and contusions about high multitude, and I just
I'm amazed by that. There's a lot of things that
go into I think Jay Ferry, former president of IndyCar,
deserves some credit as far as some of the safety
(01:52:37):
enhances that were made that are still being used. But
you're right. It is a lot safer than it once was.
And if you go back far enough on YouTube, you
can see some horrific crashes. Guys survived, but they were
in hospital beds for a long time and some of
them are still lamping as we speak in terms of
their personal life and how they walk. So it's a
(01:52:58):
very dangerous game. And I think though the reduction and
the bad injuries can be related directly to safer cars
and the construction and the safety that goes into the engineering.
Speaker 2 (01:53:10):
Yeah. Well, Danny, we're gonna have to leave it right
there because it's time for the weekend to begin.
Speaker 14 (01:53:15):
So I want to thank you.
Speaker 10 (01:53:17):
Thanks for the opportunity to come in and just remember that.
I don't think you'll have any trouble find a cheap
bolts take it if you go downtown tomorrow if you're
looking for something to do.
Speaker 11 (01:53:27):
Oh yeah, I think they'll be.
Speaker 10 (01:53:30):
I think we can go on and find some people
that'll want to tell you there's pre season seats because
they're not necessarily ready for it. But we'll see what happens.
We'll talk again.
Speaker 2 (01:53:40):
Alrighty, we'll talk to you next time. Thank you, Danny.
Speaker 3 (01:53:43):
Yeah, I've got a busy day.
Speaker 2 (01:53:45):
Tomorrow going to be out of the Eskinazi Healthfare out
on East thirty Ah Street at the Grande Health Center.
Come on out. We'll be out there doing a lot
of good things and they're going to have a lot
of fun things for the community. So Tomorrow morning, starting
at ten a m. Branch the Grande Health Fair, Eskanazi
Healthfare at the Grande Center, the Grande Clinic.
Speaker 3 (01:54:07):
So that and a whole lot more going on the
Indiana State Fair.
Speaker 2 (01:54:11):
Of course, do not forget about Gospel Day Gospel Music Festival.
Praise is a proud sponsor of that that's coming up
this Sunday, August seventeenth, from three until seven thirty featuring
Marvin Sapp and of course our guest yesterday Melvin cris
Weal the Third Melvin. We'll be back with more community
(01:54:34):
connection on Monday Monday. Monday Monday is going to be
hot this weekend. Everybody, please take care and we'll talk
to you next time.
