an encore show. But as you can tell, we are

the show, Danny Bridges back with us for a look

eight zero thirteen ten. Again three one seven for eight
zero thirteen ten is the number to call for whatever
may be on your mind.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Uh, and I do believe what may be on your
mind today, hahaha. Call started coming in already.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Let's get some business out of the way, uh, Cameron
and give away the first set of State Fair Family
four packs to some lucky listener.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
And the person who calls in the fifth caller caller
number five, caller number five, five five, caller number five.
If you are caller number five, you will win a
free family four PACKH to the Indiana State.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Fair opening today, which opened today. It's already opened. The
fair open this morning. It already is.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
And what a great day to open for the fair
on a day like today, August first, it's going to
be running for the.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Next two and a half weeks.
Speaker 6 (03:16):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
So we may have tickets. I don't know we got
tickets today, though, I tell you that we got tickets today.
Three one, seven, four, eight, zero, thirteen ten. Uh So
good luck, good luck who the potential caller number five,
whoever that may be. When I was last here with
you Live, which was on Wednesday, we had a great
(03:39):
discussion with women.
Speaker 7 (03:41):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
They are community and faith leaders from right here in
the city.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
They were, they are, they still are, and we talked
about some of the root causes of youth violence as
well as the role of women in today's society. Was
it was a you know, it was a counter to
the commonnversation and the panel that we had with men
in talking about youth violence, and we had male community
(04:07):
and faith based leaders who wanted.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
To weigh in on that.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
So it seems to have that that downtown mass shooting
that ended in the deaths of a couple of teenagers
in the arrest of a couple more. Uh, it just
seemed to have struck a nerve, I guess because perhaps
the city had made uh you know, the I know,
Chief Bailey's comments that were not here to babysit your
(04:34):
kids and things of that nature resonated as well.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
So, uh, we we.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Talked to some of the men, and we talked to
some of the women, and uh, I tell you what,
we had an absolutely wonderful conversation with the ladies.
Speaker 8 (04:49):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
They they brought it as well as the men did,
and uh you know, yeah, it was good and certainly
thought provoking. And we're gonna, you know, continue with conversation
because a lot of change does start with the conversation
and that's certainly something that we can and do do
uh here, that's certainly something we can and we'll do
(05:10):
right here.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Probably the next.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Conversation, I think we should have is to have our
men and women, community and faith leaders together. That would
be great to have, you know, to have them both
together to discuss this and and talk about you know,
possible solutions, maybe some programs and some resources there. There's
(05:33):
always those, but connecting all of them is always a
little bit more as well. So that was that was
really good, and you all participated and made some great points.
Unfortunately with when a conversation, you know, you can always
tell when a conversation is a really good one because we.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Just don't have time to get everybody in.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Uh, and that was the case with with the women
this past Wednesday. I'm gonna pin that for just a
second because already already already right here three one, seven,
four eight zero thirteen ten am thirteen ten and ninety
five point one if and we already have our first
winner of the day for the Indiana State Fair tickets,
(06:17):
the Family four pack.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Our winner is online. Three let's see. It's man Manuel
Manuel or Manuel Wilson. How are you? No, No, no,
he's not there.
Speaker 9 (06:30):
No, his call dropped. I think it's call dropped.
Speaker 10 (06:32):
He was on whole, but it dropped.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Okay, So it is it?
Speaker 11 (06:36):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Is it Manuel?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Or man you do Manual, Manuel Wilson, Okay, Manuel Wilson. Congratulations,
anybody else if you're calling the tickets have.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Been claimed, the tickets have been.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Playned tickets, tickets, tickets are gone for now. Tickets are
gone for now, So go ahead and hang up and
you can call back because there will be other opportunities
just even throughout this show. So didn't get there this time.
Keep trying.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
You're going to get through. You're going to get through.
Speaker 11 (07:03):
If you call for open lines, open lines are still open.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Yes, exactly. If you are calling for open lines, open
lines are still If you are calling for the free
State Fair tickets, they have been claimed. The State Fair
tickets have been claimed. If you're calling for open lines
for whatever's on your mind, because today is Friday, you
can Hey, we can take that call as well. Three
one seven four eight zero thirteen ten. Three one seven
(07:28):
four eight zero thirteen ten is the number for that.
Like I was saying, we had to pin, had to
pin that because we had a winner.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
You guys are fast.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
I wonder if people have have numbers or put them
on speed dial. I've never seen the phone lines light
up that quickly as when we when we have something
to give away to our community.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
So we like that.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
We know people are listening because the phone lines lined up,
so that's always good to know. But like as I
was saying, we have what now six?
Speaker 12 (07:59):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Okay, is that is that man? Is that man? Manuel?
Is that you?
Speaker 8 (08:07):
It's Manuel aka Manny?
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Okay? Well wait a minute, how did you get through
so fast?
Speaker 11 (08:15):
Because I'm telling you that was.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
There there There has been a sea of red, you know,
when a call comes in, it is red, a sea
of red on my computer right here in front of me.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
And I don't know who how anybody gets through?
Speaker 2 (08:26):
So you want congratulations many?
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Okay, I'll tell Cameron. Thank you. So you said you've
been trying to get through all week.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Huh I'm you said you've been trying to get through
to get these tickets all week?
Speaker 13 (08:42):
Yes, ma'am, Yes, ma'am.
Speaker 14 (08:43):
Okay, you know I've been trying to I've been trying
to call because I've been you know, busy, you know, working,
But I just happened to hear you say get on
the line and call.
Speaker 15 (08:51):
So I just took a.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
And it came through, and it came through.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
I love it, yeah, all the time, And all the time. Indeed, indeed,
all right, well congratulations, thank yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Who are you taking to the fair with you? Have
you decided yet?
Speaker 12 (09:08):
No?
Speaker 14 (09:08):
Probably I probably take I probably take my uh my
girlfriend and probably her grass and I'm pretty sure one
of my kids probably will.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
So yeah, but they are all claimed though, you can
get rid of all of them, I'm sure.
Speaker 14 (09:21):
Oh yeah, definitely, definitely, Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 9 (09:25):
So happy right now?
Speaker 2 (09:26):
All right, well I'm happy for you too. Okay, thank you, Manny.
And again alrighty, all right man, he got through, so
maybe you can too.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Three one seven forty zero thirteen ten.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Remember that number because throughout the show we're gonna be
giving away more family four pac tickets to the Indiana
State Fair, which open today for.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
A seventeen day run.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
I do believe sixteen or seventeen day.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
It ends on the seventeenth, I believe. So there we
have it.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Uh, open lines, as I said, today is Friday, so
it is open lines, and if you have something on
your mind, that something you want to talk about, by
all means, give us a call.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
We'll do open lines for the first hour and we've
got some guests for the secondary. Are you welcome to
call during that as well. Let's go to the phone lines. Kevin, Kevin,
how are you?
Speaker 14 (10:16):
I'm doing well. How you doing?
Speaker 3 (10:17):
I'm doing well, doing well? Thank you?
Speaker 9 (10:20):
Yep.
Speaker 8 (10:20):
I think I kind of beat you to the punch
a little bit. You said it's hard to get all
about these groups together. So remember this Sunday over at
Friendship Pastor Cufston Church. I got big homies of America.
I got Stephen E.
Speaker 14 (10:31):
Shephard.
Speaker 13 (10:32):
I got Brother Kurt out there from.
Speaker 15 (10:35):
Far east side.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Yes, the young man.
Speaker 8 (10:38):
I got Reverend Harrison from over there at it's his church.
He does a young man too. Remember to say they
did ten thousand young men. So if you really car
about the community, please come out from two to five
over a Friendship Church this Sunday. And my other thing
is the ladies you had called, you had called in,
you had all.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yes Wednesday, yeah, Wednesday.
Speaker 9 (10:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (10:58):
One of the ladies said something and who called in
said something to and he said something about the churches
that let us down, I think people. And she said
that the elders are not in the church no more
like the like the was worth well. I think we
start to forget is we are the church. So to
that young man who called, I hope he's listening. If
you go to a church and then you want to
(11:18):
piss some kind of program together or something for the community,
and that pastor tells you no, and I will find
another church that would go to another one.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
There's a ton of them out there.
Speaker 10 (11:27):
Yes, yeah, we are the church.
Speaker 8 (11:29):
So what we want them to do. We're the body
of the church. The church that we're talking about, actually
the building and the young ladies who said that mothers
are not there anymore that they used to be. They
kind of tell us what to do. We are those elders. Now,
I'm fifty, I guarantee you. Back in the day, those
people who were telling us to get that gun out
of my mouth and sit down to pop us, they
were probably in they fifty. They seem a little bit
older because we were younger back then, we were smaller.
(11:52):
But you got to start somewhere. You can't be depending
on somebody seventy eighty years old to pop your kids.
We got to step in. We got to step in
those places.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
They talk exactly.
Speaker 8 (12:02):
And then last week we got uh we had an
event over at BB's where UH College came out homey
prayers for good, came out, kept her do some cleaning up.
The former mayor Ballad showed up and gave it input.
He actually got some good program he's gonna announce.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Here Short Ballard, Greg Ballard.
Speaker 8 (12:18):
Yes, yes, he has a foundation he started on his
own where he wants to financial literacy and help people
out keep their homes.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Wonderful.
Speaker 8 (12:26):
Yes, it's very wonderful. So he showed up. And then
don't forget at BB's Brittany's having any event for the ladies.
This uh necessarity. I think it starts at eleven to two.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (12:36):
Then yet everybody knows Daniel in the city. She specializes
in domestic violence, so she'd be there on the panel.
And then we had the young man out of Florida,
out of Miami, Florida, it would be on the panel too.
So please get your tickets. And the young lady who won,
I actually connected with her and so she's gonna have
her tickets and she's bringing somebody with us.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Oh, thank you.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
And Kevin, we can't thank you enough for your generosity
because you offered to pay for some lucky guest to
that event, to Brittany's event. On Saturday, out of your
own out of the goodness of your heart, and.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
So we really appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Uh, it's a it's a good it's a kind act,
and we thank.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
You for that.
Speaker 8 (13:14):
Yeah, I appreciate you. I appreciate you for having us
on the show. All about the community.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Indeed it is, indeed it is.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Thank you so much, Kevin, and hey, all the best
this weekend.
Speaker 8 (13:23):
Yes, man, I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Okay, all right, and again open lines three one seven, four,
eight zero thirteen ten three one seven, four, eight, zero
thirteen ten.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Sam, go ahead, how are you?
Speaker 15 (13:36):
I you know, how were you doing today?
Speaker 3 (13:38):
I'm doing well? You're doing okay?
Speaker 15 (13:40):
Good?
Speaker 14 (13:41):
Absolutely, yes, ma'am.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
So what's on your mind?
Speaker 5 (13:46):
Okay?
Speaker 12 (13:46):
Two things.
Speaker 15 (13:47):
One, my grandmother passed away.
Speaker 13 (13:51):
She was a hunt and four about a year ago.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
I'm sorry one hundred and four. That's improv Wow, man,
what a life.
Speaker 8 (13:59):
Yes, the Lord, yes, but she was on medicaid medicare okay,
and they were sending her on these teens.
Speaker 10 (14:09):
By the box mm hmm.
Speaker 15 (14:11):
And the lady that's coming on your show the second hour.
Speaker 14 (14:16):
I want to yeah, reader, I wanted to.
Speaker 10 (14:19):
We got told many of them.
Speaker 14 (14:20):
Oh my god, I.
Speaker 12 (14:22):
Want to give them to her because she said she,
you know, knew a lot of teens citizens that you know,
they need the pens they medium and extra large.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Now are they unopened? Are the boxes unopened?
Speaker 14 (14:36):
No, ma'am, the boxes, no, ma'am, the boxes still fealed?
Speaker 3 (14:41):
No, no, no, What I mean? Is they as long
as oh the boxes are still sealed?
Speaker 14 (14:46):
Yes, ma'am?
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Much easier to Yeah, those are easier to distribute if
they're still sealed. That's fantastic, Sam, I tell you what, Uh,
why don't you leave? Can you leave your number with Cameron?
Speaker 16 (14:59):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Don't hang up when we finish talk and leave you
number with Cameron.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
You can call back and talk to Rita directly if
you want.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
But if for whatever reason, you can't get to her
or can't get back when she comes, she's coming on
it too. But I want her to have your numbers
so that you too can connect, because yes, I'm sure
there will be a use for those, and somebody can
use those.
Speaker 15 (15:21):
Absolutely, we have told many. I'm just believe it, and
I didn't realize that when you're a hundred years old,
the government want to give you everything.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Free government, government, saying catch me if you can, if
you can make it to one hundred, here you go.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
I mean that that's crazy, that's crazy.
Speaker 12 (15:40):
Yeah, okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Well, don't don't hang up, Sam, Sam, don't hang up.
Just give your phone number to Cameron so that we
can give it to Rita in case you too, don't
get a chance to connect this afternoon. Okay, thank you, Okay,
all right, thank you. Indeed, Jeff, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
How are you.
Speaker 12 (15:59):
Hello?
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Yeah, Jeff? Are you there?
Speaker 17 (16:02):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Happy Friday? What's going on?
Speaker 14 (16:05):
Yeah? I won't talk about a little bit. Something that
up your camera, Valley, that's the media, h okay. But
he's currently he's interested to happen one in Cincinnati, Ohio,
and one that happen in Orlando, Florida. Are you guys
are worthy situation?
Speaker 1 (16:22):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Bring me up to date. I am not not that.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
I not just by okay, what happened in Cincion, what
happened in Florida?
Speaker 14 (16:28):
Or there was a downtown brawl.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
In Orlando.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
I think I'm familiar with it. That was the guy
that was going door to door.
Speaker 13 (16:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Uh and uh, he's already raised all kinds of money
because he's afraid to go back to work. And uh,
there's some kind of internet influencer that has tracked him
down and put his information out there. He's arrested for
domestic abuse and all kinds of other stuff. I don't
know what the latest is on that, but but go ahead,
go ahead, Jeff.
Speaker 14 (16:59):
But I'll get through a landle thing right now. The woman,
the Karen, and she's a Karen. I said it. She
lost her job. She was a pharmacy, she worked at
a pharmacy. She lost her job because of this racist outburst.
And this guy her her boo whatever he is. He's
he's been arrested multiple.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Time for domestic Yeah, yeah, that's what I heard.
Speaker 14 (17:22):
Yeah yeah, and resist the law, pardness. These are so
these are some model citizens. And you know his brother
just doing it. Actually, he was doing a public service
how people can help with their electric bills or whatever.
He wasn't selling anything. But these two rate knicks. I
called him a rate nicks. They're red knicks. They're gonna
after this. But somebody they're gonna lynch him and all
(17:43):
that stuff.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
No, No, what they said was the man said, not once,
but twice, I will hang you. Yeah, I will hang
you and to me, I'm not sure, and I don't
know how federal civil I don't know how it all works.
But if you say, I will hang you to a
black person, not a threat? But isn't that a violation
of SIE? I mean, I think it's beyond the threat.
(18:05):
I think it's a crime, isn't it.
Speaker 12 (18:07):
Yeah, Well, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
I gotta look it up. I gotta look it up.
But I just thought, wow, and tell.
Speaker 14 (18:13):
What happened in Cincinnati where there was the just troup
of white folks got beat up. I guess they cleared
that the black folks assaulted them. But then you know,
and Fox News about how these black folks, these white
folks didn't found out these white folks had a little
bit too much to drink, and and what should I
how should I say this? Let's just say racism and
(18:33):
alcohol has got a good mixture.
Speaker 12 (18:35):
It's not a it's uh.
Speaker 14 (18:37):
And you know they called the black folks the N
word hit the black guys. Car didn't hit one of
the black guys. And should I say? That was all
she wrote? And uh, they they'll just say that, uh,
the white folks got the worst end of the deal.
But then the police, you know, investigated, they come to
find out these white folks kind of like, you know,
(18:58):
had a little bit too much to drink, a little
bit too much racism, and they it was it was
kind of like what they call a f a FO
if you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Yeah, yeah, So, I mean.
Speaker 14 (19:09):
What I'm saying is that ever since this orange lunatic
got back in the white a lot of these biggest
filled in boating now.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
They absolutely do.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
And yeah, I mean that's that's a clear it's as
clear as the day as well.
Speaker 14 (19:25):
I'm gonna tell you the name of these two ratenecks
down there in Florida once. The white guy name is
Steve Wiley, Steve Wiley, and the Karen her name is
uh Sheryl Pop and she showed them lost their job.
Good for her, she's she should have lost her job
because she, you know, uh couldn't control her racism. Hopefully,
(19:50):
Uh they put all the information on these two bums
out to the internet, so so they both deal was
an f a FO. So I hope uh that uh, well,
some little maybe a little uh bad publicity might be
in order. But I was going to say maybe the
(20:10):
Panthers or somebody or black lives matter, either show up
on her front porch or something and let them know that. Uh,
you know, we and our ancestors what I'm trying to say.
And uh, I'm not gonna put up with my mom
and dad and my grandparents had to put.
Speaker 13 (20:26):
Up with all right.
Speaker 14 (20:28):
So I went to put that out there.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
And you know, well, he was the the person who
was being harassed and called everything in the book and
told to get away before he got hanged. Was very
wise to record it. He was very smart to record it.
And uh, that's what the woman was objecting to. She
said something along, you know, she was threatening him about
(20:51):
even recording. I can't remember what all she said because
I just yeah, correct.
Speaker 14 (20:56):
So we made these two written necks famous. We made
them fame, and now you're like, most of these maga
folks are towers. They now like rats.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
And well, I'm surprised that they didn't get some support.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
I'm surprised somebody didn't get a GoFundMe page for them
because the brother, you know, the brother who was victimized,
he he was afraid to go back to work, and
and you know he was ready would never I I
now here.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Here's my problem.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
I had with that though, Jeff, if if he was
indeed doing his job, Oh, did Jeff hang up or
we lose it? If if we lost you, Jeff, call
back because I wanted to ask you your thought. And Sam,
by the way, I think I was going a little
too fast and we lost your call. So Sam, if
you're still listening, give us a call so that you
can give Cameron your number for Rito when she comes in.
(21:45):
But Jeff, here's here's my question regarding that situation that
I don't know, and I need to research it more.
I'm sure, But why would a man whose company sends
them out door to door need to get a GoFundMe
page going to to take care of his finances because
(22:07):
he's afraid to go back to work? I mean would
And where is his job in terms of standing up
and standing behind him saying he doesn't have to worry,
or we're gonna we're gonna double.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Up and give him some support or what have you.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
So that part of the story I still need to
find out more about, because there's no way anybody who
has been treated like that, who is working a job,
there's no reason for him to have to privately raise
funds because he's afraid to go to work.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Where is the job?
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Why are they not supporting him and standing behind him
one hundred percent because he's a representative of them and
he was doing their job for them, and.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
So to me, he should have never feared for his job.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
He should have never, you know, feared not only for
his job, but feared to go and do his job.
So that's that was the one thing about that whole story,
that the one question I had. Now again, I'm may
not know everything. I just saw the video. Uh and
I've been, you know, kind of busy the last couple
of days. That's why I wasn't able to be here yesterday.
(23:08):
But uh so I need to catch up. But yeah,
that that was puzzling, absolutely positively puzzling to me. But
the woman that got fired, you know, sorry for your luck,
but you put yourself out there and that's what could happen.
But by the same token, the brother who was being
victimized on you know, acting on behalf of a company
(23:32):
doesn't seem.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
To have been supported by that company or was he.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
I need to look it up, need to look it
up anyway, So, yeah, thanks for bringing that to our
attention Cincinnati. Totally out of the loop on that one,
but I will look that up too, look for that.
So yeah, we got got quite a bit to catch
up on the one thing.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
There was another I think it was. Yeah, it was.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Sam talking about having a bunch of medical supplies, unopened
medical supplies that his grandmother had and what he wanted
to donate them to someone who could use them. And
the interesting thing is, the one thing I did know
is that people and I saw one of the letters,
(24:18):
so I know this for a fact.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
People here in the state.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Of Indiana are already getting thrown off Medicaid. Yeah, yeah,
I saw one of the letters. And the letters are
that you are no longer eligible based on blah blah
blah blah blah and your benefits in on September something
or other. I was reading the letter because somebody showed
it to me, and I'm like, good, nest, gracious. So
(24:43):
here in the state of Indiana, y'all, in the state
of Indiana, a lot of people are already getting tossed
off Medicaid or losing their Medicaid benefits via a letter
from the State of Indiana. So I don't know if
anybody else out there has gotten these letters. But I
know that they're going out because if one person got them,
(25:05):
a whole, whole, whole lot of folks have gotten them.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
I don't know what the new requirements are.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
I don't know what the new standards are, but I
would suspect that they're looking to toss more people off
than they are looking to help people. So it started,
and here it comes, and we knew it was coming.
The sad part about that is, though the person who
is is behind a lot of this, and then it
trickled down. They are Republican, you know, Donald Trump, and
(25:34):
then Mike Braun Republican Donald Trump administration, Donald Trump rubber stamp.
The state of Indiana voted overwhelmingly Donald Trump. Because the
state of Indiana primarily is GOP. The state of Indiana
voted overwhelmingly Mike Braun, you know, a nice solid majority.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
So y'all need to start thinking.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
Anybody who's listening to me who voted for Braun and Trump,
look around and see how many of your friends and
relatives who need it are getting kicked off of medicaid
as we speak, those letters are out there. September is
the deadline. You know, maybe a month or less to
find something else or forget it. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
(26:18):
that is indeed what is going on. So I just
thought i'd pass that along. And I'm not saying something
I haven't seen. I mean, I held it in my hand,
I saw it, the person showed it to me. So
it's it's underway. It is underway. Let's we got one
call Mayhem. We'll get to you, right, we got to
get it. Squeeze a real quick break in here. You'll

How are you?
Speaker 14 (32:40):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (32:40):
How's going going good? Going good? What's going on?
Speaker 8 (32:44):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (32:44):
Nothing, just listening to you. Hey, you said something last
week and most people, I think a lot of people
didn't catch on dealing with this leadership and accountability Like
you said, Oh, why is the neighborhood at uproar about
a couple of police or some of the police. Why
(33:07):
are they not bring him bringing this captain to the
corport about this exactly?
Speaker 15 (33:12):
That?
Speaker 2 (33:12):
I mean, that's just my only question. I mean, because
we hold you know, we've held other chiefs black and white.
But you know, I think maybe even black ones to
a higher standard. If I might say so, I mean,
somebody come for me. But I really do think so
our community holds him to a higher standard, and that
all should be held to a high standard. Black, white,
or whatever, they should all be held to a high standard.
But how they can ignore the mounting numbers is beyond me,
(33:36):
because this is crime against children as well. I mean,
this is serious crime against children as well. And so
that that's all I'm saying. You know, they got to
be fleshed out too, just like the ones that use
excessive force or what have you, the ones that aren't
all there. You know that the pedophiles got to go.
You know, the pedophiles have to go.
Speaker 12 (33:59):
I got two more quick points dealing with the Cincinnati thing. Uh,
it's bigger than what Jeff is talking about.
Speaker 13 (34:06):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (34:07):
They're trying to do the same thing uh as your governor.
Uh here, our governor here trying to do down there.
Uh the governor there is trying to take the power
of the mayor in Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
They already said oh okay, okay, now since they bring
that's Hamilton County in Cincinnati, Hamilton County.
Speaker 12 (34:29):
Yeah, they bring it in. They bring it into state troopers.
And also they're talking about if they don't, if the
mayor and the city council down there don't get a
hand on the crime, they're gonna stop the federal funding.
And then another one and then another one dealing with
UH inside the bow. Uh. I want to know who
(34:52):
took the power away from people that own companies. I
got a little, small, little business, and every time we
have a one of my workers get accosted or something
by UH or or somebody come in. And still when
I call the police, UH see the merchandise on the
(35:15):
on the on the person they stole, the stole stuff.
They let them go. Uh, they don't make a report.
And then when my workers get accosted by these strange
people coming into my business, they don't do nothing to
them and they don't make a report. And then when
we try to truspas them, they talk. They tell the
business owner, you don't have the power to trustpass somebody.
Speaker 30 (35:37):
We have to do it.
Speaker 12 (35:38):
What's going on inside of Mary County that business owners
workers are not being not being protected.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
I I don't know.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Yah, certain business owners are a certain so you're saying
you're not feeling the protection right. No, no, no, what
do you I'm sorry, Maybe I'm misunderstood. You said you're workers.
Speaker 12 (35:58):
Yeah, workers, workers, the work work for me. That a
little smart.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
Okay, that worked for you. Okay.
Speaker 12 (36:03):
Yeah. When my workers get accosted by somebody off the streets,
we make a report. The police don't make a report
and they don't put no power to it. And then
when we say, well, this person been coming to this business, uh,
messing with my workers. Uh we want to keep them
up the property, they tell us we can't. Uh. Next
(36:25):
time they always say, well, next time it happens, we
we will trespass on or whatever. Well, next time somebody
could be dead.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
Yeah, I don't know, Mayham. You know what I look up?
Speaker 2 (36:36):
I would look up this city, who's who's your Who's
I keep getting back to this, but it's it's true.
Who who is your city, county counselor, or the counselor
in the district where your business is.
Speaker 13 (36:50):
I have to look it up.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
But in counselor it's in Castleton. Okay. There can be
a couple of things.
Speaker 12 (36:56):
Because I will, I'll do my homework, look at and
give him a call see what.
Speaker 31 (37:01):
We can do.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Yeah, yeah, because they can they can put some heat
on him. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (37:06):
Have you been on the counseling lately?
Speaker 3 (37:09):
H No, well wait a minute, Wait a minute.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
When you say lately, like within what because I was
maybe a month ago.
Speaker 11 (37:16):
I was out there.
Speaker 15 (37:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (37:18):
Have you seen how bad it didn't got eighty second Street?
Speaker 3 (37:21):
How bad? What traffic or just be What are you
talking about when you say.
Speaker 27 (37:25):
Bad homeless homelessness?
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 12 (37:31):
As we say, people dealing with drugs substance because you know,
I had to clean my business up when I took over.
People would come in and be getting high on the
parking lot, passed and now going in the bathroom shooting
up in the police. I remember one time before I
took over, the police went into the bathroom, saw the
(37:53):
dude with the needle in his arms shooting up and
he let him go.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
Oh no, yeah, I saw him. Actually do you did
you witness this?
Speaker 14 (38:05):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (38:05):
You should have filed a report.
Speaker 12 (38:08):
Well, I mean if the police saw him.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Well to file a report to the to the police
on the police, because uh, hey not not all of them.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
I would have. I would have filed a report and
said hey, because I tell you what.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
I had a situation at my house where an officer
came and I wasn't happy with what he did. Uh
and he made me look like the you know, I
was the victim. He made me look like the perpetrator.
Never went over to where I told him exactly the
problem was. He never knocked on that door, never did
any And I called the police. I called his district
(38:42):
uh and talked to his district commander and said I
didn't appreciate it. And the district commander got on him
and uh and and you know called me back, and
you know, we we I guess we got it straightened out.
I don't know, but yes, call call the district commander
and let them know what happened, because I can't imagine. Yeah,
call it whatever district that's in called the district commander,
(39:03):
let them know.
Speaker 12 (39:04):
That's what I do. And tell my workers to struct
calling the commander, because every time we call the police,
they don't do nothing.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Yes, say, you know, let the commander. No, your officers
are not out here doing what they're supposed to do.
Uh and and they will get on them. Yeah, yeah,
the district commanders will all right. Thank you, thank you,
Mayhem I appreciate it. Yeah, that's that's just unthinkable. I
mean illegal, illegal drug use, illegal substance, illegal paraphernalia, and
you walk away.
Speaker 3 (39:30):
I don't think so. Hey, we gave.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
Away a family four pack of State Fair tickets just
a few moments ago, and Deborah Williams won them.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Deborah, are you on the line, Debora are you there?
Speaker 25 (39:44):
Yes, I'm here.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Congratulations you won the four pack.
Speaker 12 (39:48):
Hey, yeah, I'm trying.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
Today we're giving away.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
We're giving away, giving away, giving away all the tickets
and as many as we can.
Speaker 9 (39:57):
I guess. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
So who are you gonna take with you to the fair?
Speaker 32 (40:00):
I'm going to take my granddaughter, Uh huh and her kids.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
Oh oh, that's nice. That's nice. Do you go to
the fair every year?
Speaker 25 (40:10):
I didn't go last year. I went the year before.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Yeah, the State Fair is a lot of fun, you know.
To me, it's just all I see at the State
Fair is food. Now, when my grandson came along and
sometimes I go with him and his mother when they
go out there, he's fascinated by the animals, So I
guess I've gotten more into looking at the different animals
and that little petting zoo.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
But to me.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
The fair was always about the food, the food, the
food on whatever.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
I can eat my way through the midway that I'm happy.
Speaker 6 (40:40):
Yes, damn, I know what you mean.
Speaker 33 (40:42):
I want to see everything.
Speaker 25 (40:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Yeah, there's a lot to see and do out there.
The free concerts. I mean, it's just unbelievable. And it's
the weather.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Today could not be better.
Speaker 2 (40:51):
Sometimes the fair is either too cool and muddy and
rainy and wet, or so hot you can't walk more
than three steps without looking drenched. Today is perfect. I
think the entire weekend should be I hope. So anyway,
so enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, and we will. We'll get those
tickets to you.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
Devorah. Thank you, thank you so much, and God bless you.
Bless you as well.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
Thank you. Uh three one seven four eight zero thirteen
ten three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten. Lines
are open, Katrina, go ahead, How are you, Katrina?
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Are you there?
Speaker 12 (41:28):
You hear me?
Speaker 3 (41:29):
I think I can now? Yes, go ahead?
Speaker 2 (41:31):
How are you okay, Katrina?
Speaker 25 (41:42):
Hello?
Speaker 3 (41:43):
Yeah, hello boy, I can't hear you?
Speaker 1 (41:47):
Hear me?
Speaker 25 (41:47):
Better now?
Speaker 3 (41:48):
A little better now? Yeah, go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 25 (41:52):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
Oh that's okay. Now, that's good. That's a good connection.
Speaker 6 (41:54):
Now, Okay, I wanted to make a comment about you
said a little while ago saying that people were losing
their Medicaid. Okay, for the last two years, Medicaid has
been cutting people really heavy.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
Oh really, for this has been going on the last
two years.
Speaker 6 (42:13):
It's been going on the last two years. Because we remember,
I don't know if you remember or not, but Medicaid
was talking about how there are a billion dollars in debt.
And my father, he's been on Medicaid maybe three years
because he has vascular dementia, and we wanted him to
have a caregiver. So we signed them up for Medicaid.
(42:36):
It was hell on earth to get them on it
because he has well Anyway.
Speaker 3 (42:41):
I heard, I've heard that. I've heard that.
Speaker 15 (42:43):
Yeah, it took us.
Speaker 32 (42:44):
Like nine months.
Speaker 6 (42:46):
So we had a cake worker and she said that
she had to leave us to do an investigation because
people were getting Medicaid ben fish and the people that
the benefits name was under, those people had been gated
(43:07):
what So she had to do an investigation herself because
these people were getting somebody was getting the benefit, but
the person was deceived. So when Trump said things like
that to an extent he's right. He exaggerates a lot,
but to an extent he's right because I actually had
(43:27):
a Medicaid caseworker tell me.
Speaker 3 (43:29):
That, mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
But not in the numbers that would would rise to
the level of kicking everybody off that needs it. You
see what I'm saying. If there are people doing wrong,
then then.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
Then get rid of those people.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
Yeah, if those people are doing wrong, get rid of
the people doing wrong. Don't punish everybody for one or two,
or ten or twenty or even one hundred. If one
hundred are doing the wrong thing, get rid of the hundred.
But keep the program in place, is what I that
would be.
Speaker 6 (43:58):
I guess you're right, and I'm gonna say this too.
Medicaid dropped the ball years ago because why would they
be a billion dollars a day. They're not sending people
out to see if these people are the same or not. Yeah,
(44:18):
because a billion dollars.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
Well, mismanagement, and again you put a management company in
there follow up whatever. People just get They get complacent.
They don't pay a lot of attention to stuff. So
there's a lot of reasons for it. But again, you
don't punish everybody, but that's not a matter it. Here's
the other thing. Waste, fraud and abuse is not the point.
(44:45):
The point is you gotta find money somewhere to pay
for the tax cuts that you're giving somewhere else.
Speaker 3 (44:51):
And that's somewhere else is.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
The point zero one whatever wealthiest of Americans or yeah,
wealthy as people uh in the United States. And the
idea behind that, according to one of our callers, is
so that these people who run these multi billion dollar
and million dollar corporations they can hire more folks and
put more people to work. Something like trickle down economics
(45:15):
never works, doesn't work, and won't work. All they'll do
is is pocket. They will pocket that money. They're not
going to give it to anybody. So in the interim,
everybody else is suffering, and he's agrees in the palms
of his buddies, and he and his buddies are one big,
happy group of folks, and everybody else is out here scraping,
trying to pull things together just to get by. It's
(45:36):
it's a ridiculous. It's a ridiculous situation. And one of
the main reasons we tried to keep people enthused about voting,
because everything he said, he was going to do, he did.
And everything he said he wasn't going to do, he's doing.
So you know, it's it's it's all about election, have
elections having consequences and things of that nature. And I
(45:57):
don't I don't doubt that a lot of these these corporations,
these businesses, these y yeah, a lot of you know,
and a lot of these services you know, like like
Social Security and Medicaid, and so I don't doubt that
that they could all be tightened up and be run better.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
But you don't kick the people who need those services
in the teeth. You just don't. But you know, there
it goes.
Speaker 6 (46:23):
So do you really think that he's trying to just
eliminate Medicaid and get rid of it? Because parts of
the big beautiful millit that I read, I think they
want the stakes to take over and distribute.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
He I think he wants to find money wherever he
can get it, and the heck with Medicaid and whoever,
I don't think he really cares. I don't think his
thought process goes that deeply. I mean, I hate to say,
I just don't think he's that calculating, and that who knows,
who knows, Maybe he wants to get rid of all
of it. I know he wants to be king of
the world. I do know that he doesn't want any
(46:58):
he does. I think he wants to be king of
the world. I don't think that's any that's any secret.
Speaker 6 (47:05):
But I just wanted to make that point though, because
about they've been dropping people for the last two years,
really heavy. Because one more thing, I'm gonna say, the
home care services that we had at first, she was
letting us know that she had to call people and
they were cutting hours. That's what happened at first, they
(47:26):
were cutting hours for care because I know we had
well my dad, we might have had maybe eighty hours
a week. And now everybody just gets the straight forty
a week parents to take care of their kids. You
know that kids need twenty four hour care, they just
get paid for maybe just forty hours and that's it.
Speaker 3 (47:49):
Yeah, a lot of Yeah, And she was telling.
Speaker 6 (47:51):
But that was that's been going but that was going
on in two years ago.
Speaker 9 (47:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (47:57):
But I think I think we're just gonna see larger number.
I think we're going to see much larger, much larger
numbers coming. And that is.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
There in lies the problem, and there in lies the
tragedy of the tragic nature this, the horrible nature of this,
and I just I still don't think people can fully
appreciate it. And the people that probably are going to
be impacted the most are probably the most that voted
for him. A lot of them are, and they don't.
They still don't see it, and they won't. They think
(48:27):
something's wrong with you know, we're picking on Trump, which
we always have and blah blah blah. No he's telling y'all,
we're just listening to him, but you know, people don't.
So yeah, Katrina, that's that's good to know. But yeah,
they've been kicking people off. And you're talking about here
in the state of Indiana, right, yes, now, okay, okay,
(48:47):
well yeah, any three oh okay, okay, two thousands.
Speaker 3 (48:55):
So how how's everybody doing now? I mean, how are
you managing?
Speaker 34 (49:00):
Oh?
Speaker 33 (49:01):
Yeah, we do, We're doing pretty good.
Speaker 6 (49:03):
But I don't know what's gonna happen in the future,
you know, I don't know.
Speaker 33 (49:10):
I don't know what's gonna happen with that. With the
hours I know he's getting, he getting four hours forty
a week now, he's because me and my mom hell
with them so I mean, I don't I can't speak.
Everybody doesn't have.
Speaker 2 (49:28):
That, no, no, no, And a lot of people need
these institutions like the nursing homes, these facilities, right, not institutions,
these facilities like nursing homes, because day centers and adult
day and those are nice and they work for a
niche group of people. But for those that need long term,
(49:48):
constant care, the facilities are they're losing their funding, you know.
So it's terrible. It is terrible because of real quick.
Speaker 33 (49:58):
One more thing, because this is twenty three as well.
Speaker 6 (50:03):
I know a lady that goes.
Speaker 32 (50:04):
To mar Church.
Speaker 6 (50:05):
She's on her home care service for maybe fourteen years,
and she was saying, Katrina, she wanted to start a
home care busic you need to wait because many kay,
they're going through a whole.
Speaker 8 (50:15):
Lot of change.
Speaker 32 (50:17):
And it was two years ago.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
She was telling me that, oh, wow, we never know
what's going on.
Speaker 33 (50:23):
When it happened.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
Well that you know what that is that thing called life.
We never know what goes is going on till it happens.
Speaker 3 (50:31):
Yeah, that's a good point. That's a really good place.
Speaker 32 (50:33):
I appreciate you so much for taking Mark Colin.
Speaker 14 (50:36):
You have a good one.
Speaker 2 (50:36):
Okay, we thank you too, and you have a good
one as well, thank you. Uh that was Katrina. Three
one seven four eight zero thirteen ten. Three one seven
four eight zero thirteen ten. Still uh, still hoping that
Sam gives us a callback. Maybe you got busy, but Sam,
if you're listening and you have those medical supplies, uh
oh he did.
Speaker 3 (50:55):
Oh he did call. Okay, great, great, great, thank you,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
See I get so caught up talking to folks. Cameron's
over there doing his thing, and yeah, he.
Speaker 9 (51:03):
Finally made through the sea off calls.
Speaker 8 (51:05):
We got against gratulations to devil Williams way in the
second round of tickets.
Speaker 11 (51:10):
This a little call and I appreciate everybody you know
raising the phone lines.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Yeah, I love Yeah, y'all, y'all working, y'all working Cameron today.
Speaker 6 (51:21):
It's funny.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
And guess what, we got more tickets to give away,
a whole lot more tickets to give away.
Speaker 3 (51:27):
So yeah, that's that is going to be. That's going
to be great.
Speaker 2 (51:33):
Still ahead, as I was saying, we have Danny Danny
Bridges with Sports that's going to be in our second hour,
and of course our good friend Rita Green is going
to be here to remind everybody about her big resource fair,
her resource fair that's coming up this Sunday out of
twenty eighth and Lafayette Road. Red has got a whole
(51:53):
lot more to share with you about that. But one
of the other things. And this isn't just downtown, although
it's mainly downtown. Guess what's going on now downtown And
it'll be interesting to see if we have gatherings of
young people.
Speaker 3 (52:07):
But gen Con is in town.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
And in case you didn't know about gen Con, gen
Con is huge.
Speaker 3 (52:15):
It is absolutely huge. Is the biggest way you know.
Speaker 2 (52:20):
According to the Axios online newsletter, gen Con is the
longest running tabletop gaming convention in the nation and is
making a habit of shattering records. Those records are for attendance,
you know, all kinds of things. And so Axio says
it matters because gen Con, which has been held here
(52:43):
in the city of Indianapolis since two thousand and three,
has become synonymous with summer and is the city's largest
annual convention. So all of the conventions that come to
the city of Indianapolis, there is none bigger than gen Con.
And so because it is the largest, you don't just
(53:03):
see people downtown, you see them all throughout town. And
if you happen to see folks dressed up and you're thinking,
is Halloween here already or whatever? They dress up as
a lot of the characters on these board games.
Speaker 3 (53:15):
Uh, it's gaming. They dress up as a lot.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
Of the characters and they I don't know what they
do down there. Have you ever been to gen Con, Cameron,
are you familiar with it? You've never been.
Speaker 3 (53:30):
I haven't either, but your kids have.
Speaker 11 (53:35):
Been working?
Speaker 3 (53:37):
Are they gamers?
Speaker 10 (53:39):
The characters?
Speaker 3 (53:41):
Oh, the characters? Yeah, and it is quite a show.
Speaker 2 (53:45):
The Axials goes on to give us a little bit
more history behind it, just to show you how big
gen Con is.
Speaker 3 (53:51):
I'm trying to give you a baseline here. It was
a driving force.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Gen Con was behind the city's expansion of the Indiana
Convention Center and edition of a thirty eight story signia
by Hilton Hotel after convention leaders warned the event was
outgrowing Indianapolis and needed more space. So it's like, how
(54:14):
much bigger can you get? So gen Con has agreed
to stay here in Indianapolis through at least twenty thirty
through at least twenty thirty. So Axials goes on to
say a little bit more that when gen Con opens
its doors, when it opened on yesterday, it'll mark the
start of the biggest event in the convention's nearly sixty
year history.
Speaker 3 (54:36):
Sixty year history.
Speaker 2 (54:37):
So last year was the first ever sellout, and officials
started the week by announcing they did it again in
twenty twenty five, another sellout. So the big picture, the
biggest gen Con ever arrives amid the global gaming boom
that started in the twenty tens, and as the rise
of crowdfunding allowed more developers to get into the game
and millennials took the tabletops to disconnect.
Speaker 3 (54:59):
From their devices.
Speaker 2 (55:01):
The injury of the street got another boost during the pandemic.
Research suggest that gamers who got into the hobby during
lockdown are sticking around, sticking around. So gen Conn ladies
and gentlemen, Gen Con, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (55:15):
Big, big, big, big big.
Speaker 35 (55:17):
We'll be back with more communic connection after this.
Speaker 10 (55:42):

cleaned up with the smells still in the house, and
the neighbors are coming over for game night. They're on
their way, and then.
Speaker 10 (56:26):
You spray for breeze. Air missed for bereese.
Speaker 30 (56:27):
Air starts working instantly to fight even your toughest odors.
So you go from fish to fresh like that. Now
all you have to worry about is pam cheating.

So we're ready, you're ready.
Speaker 3 (59:26):
Okay, we'll introduce us to your guess.
Speaker 11 (59:28):
Actually, I'm gonna let my guests introduce this.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
He probably needs no introduction from a lot of sports
fans because we're going to a sports segment after you guys.
So but anyway, go ahead, sir, learn he taught me
a lot already break so.
Speaker 9 (59:42):
Okay, So to introduce myself. I'm a native born of Indianapolis,
Indiana West Side. My name is Relentless Laman Brewster. I'm
the former heavyweight champion of the world. I'm Indiana's first
normally world heavyweight champion. I also hold the world record
for the faster knockout in heavyweight history in the world
championship title fight. How fast was that fifty three seconds
(01:00:05):
at the first round over Andrew Gollotta at the United
Center in two thousand and was it?
Speaker 6 (01:00:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (01:00:12):
I think it was two yeah, two thousand and five.
I changed in Michael Jordan's stall. So, I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
Did you know that you had you had done that?
I mean, when that happened, did you say, oh, okay,
we're good here, we're done.
Speaker 25 (01:00:26):
Uh?
Speaker 9 (01:00:26):
Well, you know there's a saying in boxing is you
don't box a boxer, just like the saying is you
don't fight a fighter, and he chose to try to
fight me. And I've never seen an axe lose to
a tree.
Speaker 3 (01:00:43):
I like that. You know what, can I have that one?
Speaker 6 (01:00:45):
Use it?
Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
I'm going to use it. So, so what have you
been doing since since you retired from the rink?
Speaker 9 (01:00:52):
So I started a nonprofit organization called Brewster's Place. I
have a friend by the name of Larry Love. Shout
out to Larry Love from the West Side twog. He
helped me to get started with the nonprofit organization where
I ended up. It became something where first it was
about just helping that particular community on the West Side,
(01:01:15):
but then it grew into well, as a world champion,
I can't limit myself to just one community, and so
I developed a program which is called the Fight for
Life program, which teaches young individuals how to perceive themselves
as a boxer based on their mindset. We got three
type of mindsets. We have aggressive mindsets, defensive mindsets and
(01:01:38):
CounterPunch your mindsets. This sums up boxers and it sums
up people outside of the boxing. And so what I've
done is I've broken down how to stand according to
that particular mindset. Because it's your mindset that dictates the
type of fighter you would be based on your boxing IQ,
if you will. So I found by working with these
(01:02:01):
young men because I first thought once I retired, I
was going to show young men about how to actually
be a really good fighter coming from the Midwest, being
that I was on the US Olympic team, traveled the world,
became heavyweight champion of the world. But I saw even
more so these young men they need guidance. They want
(01:02:22):
somebody to tell them, no, they want somebody to congratulate them,
they want somebody to educate them. And so I'll get
into it another time, but I just put it like this.
God put the conviction in my heart that I got
to try to be a shepherd to a sheep. And
so what I've been doing is just trying to educate
myself and trying to help other people to try to
(01:02:45):
perceive life. Because we live on the time where we
got over eight billion people in the world. This is
the highest amount of homeless. I don't know how to
really say it right, but less fathers in the house,
and so as the Bible say, the blind can't lead
the blind. So what I'm trying to do is teach
these young men to be shepherds, because God said be
(01:03:06):
shepherds to my seat, because if the shepherds get right,
then the sheep gonna follow. But if I can get
the minds right of these young men about how to
perceive life as a fight, then they'll be less likely
to think about picking up a gun. And so I've
been working with Ryan Mears and he's supporting my program.
And I've been going around to juveniles, jails and prisons,
(01:03:27):
high schools, elementaries, recreational centers, just trying to really teach
this program because every punch that I've ever thrown or
been hit with, I can tell you what it means
in life. So if I can get you to see
how to win a fight based on your styles, because
in boxing, styles makes fights, right, you know, Joe Fraser,
(01:03:50):
he no excuse me, Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Ali had trouble
beating Ken Norton because of his style, But yet George
Foreman had no problem with being beating Ken Norton. You know.
So styles make fights. So anytime you speak to someone,
it's a potential ring, it's a potential action. Either it
could be a spying match, or it could be a fight.
(01:04:11):
Remember words of spells, that's why it's called spelling. So
by me helping these young individuals get their education, of
get their mindset, get there, get there, just how to
approach any situation, because when you walk into a situation
based on your mindset, it could actually be beneficial for
you or it could be detrimental. So I try to
(01:04:32):
help them to understand everywhere they go, you know, it's
what they say, is not where you're from, it's how
you come. So I'm just trying to teach these young
men based on your mindset, based on your stands. This
is how you approach certain situations. The jab in boxing,
in life, it means opportunity. The more you throw the jab,
the greater your chances of that window opening of opportunity.
(01:04:57):
And the hand that is caught we call that the boom,
and that's the hand that you throw a thousand times
in the gym so that when you get into the fight,
you only gotta throw at once the right way. And
so what I teach is that hand that is caught.
That's the education. The I want this and I see
the window of opportunity just created through the opening, and
(01:05:19):
I'm gonna throw it. But then what comes behind that
is called the hook. The hook in life is called insurance.
So it ain't enough that you went and try to
find a job. Now you got the job, that's the boom,
But the thing that follows that is the hook, that's
the insurance. I'm gonna show up on time, I'm gonna
(01:05:40):
speak to part, I'm gonna dress the part, I'm gonna
act a part. That's how you win. And so teaching
these individuals how to win because a lot of us
didn't have fathers, a lot of us, you know, it's
up to the fathers just really supposed to show, especially
the young individuals, how to perceive life. If that is
(01:06:00):
not there and they're raised with their mothers, then when
they get thirteen or fourteen, they got all the insights
of their mother's emotions and hormones. We're not hormones. But
what happens is, well, I guess to that degree, what
the point is when that toss testroon kicks in around
thirteen or fourteen, that is a recipe for disaster. And
(01:06:21):
I'm speaking I can only speak for myself.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
Because anybody that yeah, I know what you're saying. That
Reena and I are agreeing.
Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
We've had thirteen year old.
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
Son, so absolutely, that's the age just seemed to become
a stranger.
Speaker 9 (01:06:36):
It's called testosterone, it's called DNA from my father. And
what a man instinctively once you do and should do
to provide and protect, which is what we have lost,
you know what I mean. We think that the women's
supposed to provide and protect. That ain't that ain't what
God said, you know, So it's about being obedient to
thus said the Lord.
Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
Indeed, you know, there's a there's a young man speaking
of young.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
People who is also a boxer, and he's been on
the show a few times.
Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
Anthony Simms, Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
And he almost you know, it's almost verbatim how he
shares that boxing is such a metaphor for life and
that through him throwing punches and boxing and then just
the whole sharing, the whole nine yards, he is able
to reach young men. Absolutely, he said, boxing is you know,
that's what you see on that. But the metaphor for life,
(01:07:30):
he said, that's what I want to teach, and that's
what I'm teaching.
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
So I mean, you you just laid it out exactly
the way he did.
Speaker 9 (01:07:36):
Yeah, it saved my life because I grew up doing
the crack era as a teenager, and so when I
got out of school, I went to George Washington High School.
When I got out of school, I had only an
hour before I had to be at the boxing gym.
So instead of going out with my friends and hanging
out in the street and chasing girls and all the
things that people do when you know they're young, I
(01:07:59):
was in the boxing gym. I was learning discipline, I
was learning the determination. I was learning a lot about myself,
you know. And so by me having that that platform,
it helped to transform my mind into I can do
anything I set my mind to, because I remember the
first challenge in the gym was just trying to jump
(01:08:20):
rope for three minutes straight and I like to die.
And then I remember trying to hit the heavy bag
for three minutes straight so that I could look like
all the other dudes in the gym, and I understood,
it's more mental than it is even physical. It's mine,
but it is mind over matter. If you don't mind,
it don't matter.
Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
Yes. Indeed, indeed, so h Brewsters Place, Yes, ma'am. Yeah,
that's that's where it's all there. Everything is there.
Speaker 9 (01:08:45):
So what I do is I have a program whereas
I teach people. It's called the Art of Expression for
young a lot of young individuals that are angry. I
do a senior program. I do a woman's program over
at Riverside on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between six to eight,
and specifically for the women on Wednesdays, but on Mondays
(01:09:07):
and Fridays, well, Monday's a co ed but on Friday's
all young men. But what I do is I teach
them what every punch means in life. Because every punch
that I've ever thrown and been hit with, I could
tell you what it means in life. So people need
something to always identify with as a marker to know
that they're going the right way. But without that, we're
(01:09:28):
in the blind. So when you get angry, all you
have are rap videos and rap words to tell you
to grab a gun and kill somebody, even though we
know that that ain't what they're doing. They not living
like that, you know. I went to Los Angeles and
I got to hang out with people like Doctor Dre
and Warren G and a whole bunch of other real
famous rappers and whatnot. But they're not living with their talking.
(01:09:50):
But it's to make money. It's a business at the
end of the day. But young people like us don't
know that because we just don't know. And so I
remember growing up and I'm in the streets in the club,
trying to be gangster what not. And then I get
to meet these dudes like man, y'all soft as hell,
misled meet.
Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
Hey, it's just an a.
Speaker 9 (01:10:12):
You should tell me that, you know, because I ain't
had no daddy.
Speaker 11 (01:10:15):
To tell me that, you know what I mean.
Speaker 9 (01:10:17):
So I remember I called back to my homeboys like man,
could go in the club, take them clothes off, don't
do nothing, because they ain't living like that. I'm thinking,
we're going, like I went to dre housing. I'm thinking
we're going to the hood. I'm gonna see low riders,
I'm se bench presses, I'm gonna see pit bulls.
Speaker 25 (01:10:30):
Heah.
Speaker 9 (01:10:31):
We went. We went to like it was a thousand
Oaks in California. Man, I had to go through two
gates just to get to it.
Speaker 11 (01:10:38):
Like, what the heck?
Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
Like you got grasped.
Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
Somebody was saying the same thing is I can't remember
who it was, but it was a big star and
that he ain't hood.
Speaker 3 (01:10:48):
He got a nanny and the.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Kids are in private school, they got a car, they
got a driving service.
Speaker 3 (01:10:54):
And but he can you know, he can. He can
do the thing, you can do the act, but you.
Speaker 9 (01:10:58):
Can't tell nobody sixteen he had team. Yeah, so impressionable,
you know. But but like I say, boxing saved my
life because when I was in the gym, it kept
me out of the streets, you know, and a lot
of a lot of people back then, especially because I
said it was a cracker, a lot of people went
to jail, they died, you know. And because I was
able to go to the gym, it really helped me
(01:11:20):
to grow in strengths spiritually, mentally and physically. So I
definitely recommend boxing to young men young women because it
teaches you a lot about yourself because you don't know
what you can do until you have a test and
when you have to hit that bag. It's not just
about power, it's about endurance. It's about determination and then
(01:11:43):
the adrenaline that you feel when you completed one whole round.
Like it helps you to grow as a person outside
of the ring.
Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
Yeah, so you are going to be part of right
the doors.
Speaker 11 (01:11:57):
I'm enjoying this.
Speaker 3 (01:11:58):
Oh I am too. So have you always had this passion?
I know you're going to be a part.
Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Of the Resource Fair, yeah this Sunday, and I know
you're going to be doing your thing, but it's important
for people to know what it is you're going to
be doing, and they're gonna come out and see you
as well as everything at the Resource Fair.
Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
But you've always had this passion.
Speaker 9 (01:12:19):
Yeah. Well, so I was one of them people that
was hardhed and God just kept saying, you know, I
don't get tired, and he didn't get tired of me
trying to do the wrong thing, go the wrong way,
and he just kept putting things in front of me
until I was led back to where the way he
wanted me to go. And so when I came back,
(01:12:41):
when I came when I moved back from California to Indiana,
I was trying to figure out what was out here
for I stayed in the house for a year and
then I went to go visit my step dad. And
then I went to visit my step dad and he
went in the house because he's in the backyard. He said,
I'm going in the house. Some for a man i'll
be back. When he came back, I'm sorry when he
went in the house. While he while he was in
(01:13:03):
the house, I was standing in the backyard and I'm
looking around, like, man, that's where my basketball court used
to be. I kissed the girl there or guy in
a fight over there, you know. And while I was
standing there by myself, something came over me and it
was like, I did everything you asked me to do.
You want to be You wanted to get out of Indiana.
I took you to California. You want to be a
(01:13:23):
successful boxer, I'll let you be heavyweight champion of the world.
Basically at the end, and he was like, well, what
are you gonna do for me? But I already already
when I heard it, I knew right then that was
that was confirmation that God called. He was keepers calling
me to do his will. He set many a call,
a few had chosen. So I just stand on his word.
So if you ever meet me, if you ever talked
to me, you're always going to hear me mention God.
(01:13:45):
He said, we pust to live by the ratcause of
the Bible. So that's what I do. I don't believe
in religion. I believe in the word of God.
Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
Oh what did he just say?
Speaker 17 (01:13:53):
That?
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
A whole bunch, A whole bunch Okay, what was it
like being the heavyweight champion of the world. We don't
get too many heavyweight champions of the world here in studios,
so especially like Nandy and that.
Speaker 11 (01:14:06):
What was that like?
Speaker 9 (01:14:07):
Well, you know, at the time, it was just a
personal goal for me, I think because I wanted the
attention on my father, because though my mother and father
didn't live together, he didn't live far and he was
always in my life. And every time I was over there,
he was watching fights on the weekend, him and all
his friends crowded around the TV, drinking beer, talking crazy
(01:14:29):
and giving this dude, two dudes with no shirts on
giving him attention. And I'm here, I am this little kid,
Like what I got to do to get this attention?
And I think that I think that what happened was
and I just figured this out just not long ago.
I just figured out that my whole aspiration for wanting
to be a fighter was so that I can have
(01:14:51):
my father give me that same praise that he was
giving those guys, you know, And it was a pleasure,
It was a joy because my father. He went to
the training with me when I when I want to fight, Uh,
he was in. He walked to the ring with me.
He held a picture of my trainer who had just
passed seven months before I won the title. And uh,
(01:15:11):
you know, my father passed about three years ago. His
name was Daryl Brewster, and he grew up on the
West Side, and he was a great man. He was
a great father to me. And uh, you know, I
think that because he didn't have a father, he tried
so hard to make me a tougher a tougher man
because I was a mama's boy. I'm still a mama's boy,
you know. And there is nothing wrong with that. But
(01:15:36):
the butt part is that as a man, we have
to learn to understand that there's an expectation on our lives.
See these young men come out the house today, they
don't have no expectations on them. So what they get
into they just feel like, well, this is what I
want to do. But as the Bible say, honor thy mother,
honor thy father. So we have an obligation to our
(01:15:57):
families to uphold the names of our families. And so
I try to have these help these young men to
take pride in themselves, take pride in who they are,
these these young women as well. I teach a lot
of defense for women on how to hit people if
they have to, because a lot of men don't understand
what no means. It's one hundred and eight pressure points
(01:16:19):
thirty six to kill you. And so I teach people
how to knock people out. And I have a success
record of teaching women how to beat how to get
men to understand what no means.
Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
Pay attention to what they're saying.
Speaker 9 (01:16:32):
Yeah, absolutely need a sign?
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
Well yeah, where is Yeah?
Speaker 9 (01:16:41):
So Bruce's Place is a service, so it's all over
the country, all over the world.
Speaker 25 (01:16:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:16:47):
And what I'm going to be doing here, I'm going
to be asking people pretty soon to join Bruce's Place
because we have an obligation to each other. And the
way you join Bruce's Place is basically by purchasing a
rubber risk band or a T shirt so that people
can identify with who you are. So if I'm out,
my obligation is is that, even if I don't make
(01:17:07):
myself known to you, if you're wearing one of the
wristbands or T shirts, I'm obligated to make sure that
as long as you're in my presence, you're okay. Just
like in a boxing gym, it's a boxing gym mentality.
When you come in the boxing gym, nobody judges you
by the color your skin, your height, your weight, your
skill level. We're all there for the same common denominated
which is the love of boxing. So I'm trying to
(01:17:29):
have that mindset develop outside the ring so that we
can watch out for each other.
Speaker 3 (01:17:34):
Do you have children?
Speaker 9 (01:17:36):
I do. I have three girls and a boy.
Speaker 3 (01:17:38):
Are any of them following in your footsteps?
Speaker 9 (01:17:40):
No, I'm knowingly pushing back. I am going yeah, you know,
but I did. I have taught all of my children
how to box. They all got nice hands.
Speaker 25 (01:17:48):
You know.
Speaker 9 (01:17:49):
It's like Tupac say, I ain't no killing, but don't
push me, you know what I mean. So the whole
thoat is is just that I want them to always understand,
to be confident in themselves and know how to take
care of themselves in any situation. Like a fighter, some
fighter styles are based upon them winning because they got
the fighter backing up. Some fighter styles are based on
(01:18:09):
keeping their opponent in the middle of the ring while
they circle. So I just help try to help them
and I try to help others to understand who they
are as a fighter would be, and that helped them
to better navigate in the world when you're dealing with
people and you're going in situations you're not familiar.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
With, Champ, How how good of you to be a
part of this resource for this is really really good,
I mean, and it's just a testament to all of
the work that RITA does too and bringing people together
that really are about something that they are going to
be saying something resources And I mean, what greater resource
than the Champion of the World.
Speaker 8 (01:18:45):
Champ.
Speaker 2 (01:18:46):
We got you sitting right here the vone lines. Let's
go to the vone lines.
Speaker 3 (01:18:49):
Ron, you have a question for the Champ? Are you there? Yes, yeah,
go ahead. And my nephew, okay, your nephew. I'm sorry,
I didn't know that.
Speaker 13 (01:19:03):
And uh, his father and me both fox ah. Yes,
we boxed each other with gloves and without gloves.
Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Okay, who won? That's what I was Yeah, who won?
Speaker 11 (01:19:17):
His father?
Speaker 13 (01:19:20):
It was it was back and forth. His father was.
His father remains my best friend either the last, he
was the last. He's just my best friend. Cheers me
up when I think about him. Uh, but uh Layman
has always been uh the way he is. He's just
(01:19:40):
enhanced uh his personality. Uh. He used to he used
to tickle me because when I first married his aunts
forty five years ago. Uh, he was Uh he used
to call me Arnold and started laughing and run and
we have and to this day we have a lot
(01:20:01):
of conversations, uh, really deep conversations about life and and
about our people. So I want to congratulate him, and
I'll tell him this, and I'll tell you guys this.
He had the whoop puitch scold that night because if
he hadn't, his daddy would have whooped pim. So I'm
(01:20:23):
gonna let you guys go and continue what you're doing.
Laman proudly.
Speaker 9 (01:20:26):
You love you, Thank you, love you what you're doing, Yes, sir,
oh prazy.
Speaker 3 (01:20:31):
Indeed, indeed all right, thank you. Kevin. Go ahead.
Speaker 12 (01:20:34):
How are you, hey, Kenny?
Speaker 8 (01:20:37):
You might as well make it a family affair.
Speaker 13 (01:20:40):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (01:20:41):
I was coming him to say one.
Speaker 8 (01:20:42):
Thing, man, but Laming fit cheers in my eyes when
he said his father is a great man. Ronald is
our uncle. Lamy's dad was my uncle. I'm cheering him now. Man,
we uh we learned from the best.
Speaker 5 (01:20:56):
Daddy always kept all of us together, all the boys
and all the girls, us in the back of his
forward truck and take us out the Eagle Creek and
take a swimming stay together. Yes, if you notice a
common thing between me and laymen, we love our community.
That's because of the people in that family like Uncle
ron uh his daddy, my uncle Marvin and Brian and
(01:21:17):
stegey Man.
Speaker 12 (01:21:17):
They raised us right.
Speaker 5 (01:21:19):
They taught us how to fish, they taught us how
to shoot, They taught him how to be men.
Speaker 8 (01:21:22):
And as soon as Lamon said that Daddy was a
great man, it pick tears in my eyes.
Speaker 11 (01:21:26):
Man.
Speaker 8 (01:21:27):
I love what you're doing out here, cause you know
how I feel about you. Yeah, I mean, you make
the city just about your president. Man, you make the
city better man. And we appreciate you, man, and we
love you. Know, we love you as a family.
Speaker 9 (01:21:43):
Why you got me in tears? I come, I come
and smile.
Speaker 8 (01:21:50):
Man, I got an event on the same day. But
my actually my fire station is detailed to your event
over there, so you you'll see me over there on
Sunday at your event as well. Man.
Speaker 18 (01:22:03):
And again, I love you, I love you.
Speaker 8 (01:22:04):
I said this, this city, this state, man, this world
is a better place man with the Brewster boys.
Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
Was Yeah, you're right boy. That that's we'll talk about touching.
Speaker 2 (01:22:15):
Yeah you say, rita, let's go back to the phone
lights shinda hardy, go ahead, how are you hey?
Speaker 5 (01:22:22):
How you doing?
Speaker 12 (01:22:23):

Speaker 32 (01:22:24):
Shout out to my very first cousin.
Speaker 3 (01:22:31):
Yes, lighting us up, go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 32 (01:22:35):
And someone else would like to say, shout out to
see reverend doctor.
Speaker 28 (01:22:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:22:42):
I love that's her, that's her little brother. She she
the only woman that ever could beat me in basketball
when I actually tried.
Speaker 36 (01:22:51):
Okay, yes, ma'am, tell them I beat everybody.
Speaker 8 (01:22:57):
Know you did you?
Speaker 9 (01:22:58):
She beat everybody on the West Side. That ain't ain't no,
ain't no secret.
Speaker 11 (01:23:03):
I love you.
Speaker 32 (01:23:04):
I love you really calling to you know, just say
praise up God. Oh man, you're doing a very very
wonderful thing.
Speaker 12 (01:23:12):
Here for our community.
Speaker 32 (01:23:13):
And I wish people that even didn't make it to
be in where your dream was still will come together
and try to bring this community together.
Speaker 25 (01:23:22):
Sir.
Speaker 32 (01:23:23):
You know what I mean, We all we got we're
killing each other and it's it's not right.
Speaker 9 (01:23:28):
That's right.
Speaker 32 (01:23:29):
I'm really glad that you have stepped out and I
hope everyone comes, and I'm going to try and come
to now that God has brought me through my sickness,
I'm ready to step out now.
Speaker 6 (01:23:39):
Indeed.
Speaker 3 (01:23:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
In in case, all right, well, thank you, thank you
so so very much. And in case you're just joining
us our guests, mister champion, mister champion, Layman Brewster, former
world heavyweight boxing champion, Indie native and founder and director
of Brewster's Place.
Speaker 3 (01:23:56):
Uh. He is just one of.
Speaker 2 (01:23:57):
The many, many people who are going to be a
part of Rita Green's resource fair coming up on some
Oh my goodness, Okay, y'all can't see this, but oh
my goodnes talking about to put that on that U
talk about the blame the blow blo blow.
Speaker 3 (01:24:17):
Oh wow. So is this is this your world heavyweight
Championship ring? Yes, ma'am, Oh my goodness. Impressive.
Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
Yeah, take a picture of that, Rita and we can
uh you know, maybe oh with me holding it.
Speaker 3 (01:24:31):
Okay, I don't need to be in the picture.
Speaker 24 (01:24:35):
That's gorgeous.
Speaker 3 (01:24:36):
That is wow. Do you see this? Cameon?
Speaker 11 (01:24:40):
Have you ever seen a championship ring?
Speaker 3 (01:24:41):
Cameron's on He's doing these things and so so Rita.
A recap of it.
Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
And again the fact that Layman Brewster is is one
of the many people I think it goes to, and
it shows the care that you take with our community
and how you se are putting a resource fair together
for everyone. And I mean he's just one example of
the many, many, many people who are going to be
(01:25:10):
contributing to the fair on Sunday. It's going to go
on all day on Sunday. Yes, so tell us a
little bit more about it if someone wasn't able to
find out and hear about it on Monday.
Speaker 36 (01:25:22):
Sure, So it is going to be this Sunday at
the Amvets Post ninety nine and that's twenty eight forty
Lafayette Road. We have so much to give away for families,
children and adults. We have free food, we have clothing, shoes, backpacks,
school supplies, haircuts, cell phones, medical screenings. We have a
(01:25:43):
job fair, we have a school fair, a lot of
self defense demos, just about anything that you could need
to go back to school or to succeed in life.
Speaker 3 (01:25:54):
Yeah. Yeah, and the champ and the champs.
Speaker 11 (01:25:57):
I'm so blown away. This is so beautiful.
Speaker 36 (01:25:59):
I hope people come out and take advantage of this
once in a lifetime opportunity.
Speaker 2 (01:26:04):
But you know it is it is so beautiful when
someone who's been at the pinnacle like you have of
the world and uses their platform to reach back and
to help out using that platform, using your voice, it
is just it gives it. It gives you chills. I mean,
it's just really really inspirational.
Speaker 5 (01:26:22):
Rita.
Speaker 3 (01:26:23):
We have a caller that wanted to ask you a question,
Sherry Smith. Go ahead, Hey, Sherry, how are you?
Speaker 25 (01:26:29):
I'm fine reader, how are you doing?
Speaker 36 (01:26:31):
And everyone else I am well we are well it
sounds like it seems like.
Speaker 3 (01:26:36):
Yeah, it seems like we're doing okay.
Speaker 36 (01:26:37):
Sherry is actually the owner of Parking Reck and she
has supported us from the jump, so yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:26:44):
Okay, well thank you, Sherry, thank you. So what is
Parking Reck?
Speaker 25 (01:26:49):
Actually it is a it is a bar, slash club,
slash venue mm hmm. And we're at downtown to forty
seven stars from Marie be In Streets and we just
wanted to call in and uh, let the callers and
let and let the city know that we had our
(01:27:09):
opportunities last year to not only support the event as
well as this year, but we had an opportunity to
go be on site and see firsthand the work that
Rita and organization does, and to be there and just
see the lines of families and and kids and people
(01:27:31):
that really benefit from her community outreaching her efforts. It's
just really it's a really humbling experience to be there
and just see that you can make a difference in kids,
kids and families' lives, and to see them light up,
and to see them be able to walk through and
pick the what color book bag they wants and know
(01:27:54):
that they're going to school on the first day and
they're they're feeling that much better because because there, they
too have what their other classmates have. I just want
to call in and say that her work is is uh,
she's she's a selfless persons a lot of long hours
and a lot of her a lot of time and energy.
Speaker 12 (01:28:17):
Into giving back.
Speaker 25 (01:28:18):
And I think that when you do that, you're a
kind of person. So I just want to call in
and give her her organization their flowers. She has the
resources to continue to do this another year and to
let everyone know that it's important of you have the
ability to to, you know, donate, donate your time, donate resources, Yes, volunteer,
(01:28:50):
whether it's this organization reader represents or it's another organization
because we're in some where are some peculiar times right now.
Speaker 3 (01:28:57):
Yeah, indeed, and you do a whole lot too.
Speaker 36 (01:29:00):
I mean you have a lot of don't you have
a couple of organization businesses?
Speaker 12 (01:29:06):
We do.
Speaker 25 (01:29:06):
We're into the night life. We're also into trucking as well. Okay, yeah, yeah, Well.
Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
Thank you, thank you so much for all you do,
and thank you for your your contributions, and you know,
for you, miss Smith and for you the champ. What
would you say to people who don't have maybe a business,
a couple of businesses, or a World Sporting championship platform?
What would you say to people that don't have that
(01:29:35):
and their ability to do what you're doing?
Speaker 9 (01:29:38):
If I would answer that, I would just say, find
out who you are as a fighter, find out what
your stance is. And then when you find out your stance,
it'll help you to understand the type of fight in
the direction that you need to go. Because when you
go through those those doors based on your mindset, then
other opportunities open up to you life. So if you
(01:30:01):
don't know where you're going, first find out how you're standing,
and then as you continue to go forward God to
reveal it to you, because he said, I'm with you
wherever thou goest, and so wherever you go, He'll direct
your path. So that that's what I say.
Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
You know, but you don't necessarily have to have a
world championship or five businesses or three.
Speaker 9 (01:30:21):
Businesses to be able to it's a mindset.
Speaker 3 (01:30:23):
And to volunteer.
Speaker 9 (01:30:24):
Yeah, a champion is a champion is a mindset. You know,
if you if you can conceive it, you can achieve it,
you know.
Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
So yeah, hey, bring in the businesses. Yeah, go ahead, Yeah,
right ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:30:40):
But I wanted to bring in our sports contributor from
the Indianapolis Recorder, Danny Bridges.
Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
Danny, guess what? Guess how we rate today? Are you there?
Good afternoon?
Speaker 11 (01:30:51):
We have the.
Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
Champ, the champ Layman Brewster. Danny. I just want you
to have an opportunity to say hello to him.
Speaker 14 (01:30:58):
Well, I go very well who he is?

Speaker 3 (01:31:09):
Well, heavy, beautiful, sparkling. Ooh it's nice.
Speaker 9 (01:31:13):
This ring represents us just so you know, this ring
is not something that I take cling for because for me,
my success is based upon this city believing that I
could do it. And when I stepped into the ring
that night, I knew that my city was with me.
Speaker 3 (01:31:29):
Indeed, indeed, and you're with the city.
Speaker 2 (01:31:32):
I tell you what you are here. You could be anywhere,
and you came right back here. So we really appreciate it. Danny,
you say you know him, well, you.
Speaker 15 (01:31:40):
Know very well. I've never had the chance to meet him.
I'm quite familiar with his career. And however big that
ring is, he earned it.
Speaker 2 (01:31:51):
He did, Yes, he did, so Danny, we're going to
get to you in just a minute after the commercial break.
Speaker 3 (01:31:56):

Let's go ahead and get our sports guy from the
Indianapolis Recorder, Danny Bridges on the line, Danny, how are you.
Speaker 15 (01:43:41):
I'm doing well?
Speaker 6 (01:43:43):
Good?
Speaker 17 (01:43:43):
Good good?
Speaker 2 (01:43:44):
Hey, wasn't that great having the champion here? I mean,
I was just so. I was just taken with him.
He's amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:43:50):
He's absolutely amazing.
Speaker 15 (01:43:52):
He was a heck of a fighter. That's the best
thing and the only thing and the most important thing
I can say in terms of what he's done. As
I said, whatever kind of a ring he's wearing, he
earned it.
Speaker 2 (01:44:03):
Indeed, indeed, indeed, So Danny, what you got for us today?
You got a lot of stuff going on, right, Yeah.
Speaker 15 (01:44:09):
I released an article of the Recorder, released a column
today that I had the chance to sit down with
Roger Penske a couple of weeks ago and sat down
and had done some follow up with other people in
the organizations. I kind of released it on the wrong time.
It's kind of dwarfed to some extent by yesterday's announcement
(01:44:31):
of Fox Sports buying one third of the Annapolis Motor
Speedway one third of the Indy Car Series for one
hundred and thirty million dollars. But there's two separate stories,
even though I do think there's some overlap in a
parallel that runs between them. I have known for a
long time the commitment that Pinske has made to diversity.
(01:44:53):
I've known many of the people that work for him
and with him in this process. Rod Reid, who found
that NXG Motorsports for Youth, has been a champion in
that department for a long time. And obviously, in concert
with Penske Racing, they put together Force Indy Racing. Initially
that was Ernie Francis was their driver. Than Miles Row
(01:45:15):
stepped in in season two, and the Miles Row story
is well documented. But the reality is a lot of
people don't know the part that Roger Penske played, not
just financially, but certainly in that department as well in
the development of Miles Row.
Speaker 3 (01:45:30):
Okay, so this is out now.
Speaker 2 (01:45:32):
I mean, in the most recent edition of the Indianapolis Recorder,
you can read all.
Speaker 15 (01:45:36):
About I sent that to you, young lady, and.
Speaker 2 (01:45:39):
Yeah, and it's not you know, I can't get it
to display, Danny, I was trying to read it before.
Speaker 3 (01:45:44):
I don't know what's wrong with my phone, but I'll
get it. I'll just go to Recorder dot com.
Speaker 15 (01:45:48):
It's in today's paper. It's also at Indianapolis Recorder dot com.
I'm very proud of the Recorder website. They have transcended
into a whole new world with that in the last
eighteen months yea, and they reached so many people on
a daily basis. Could not be happier and prouder of
what Robert Camique, Mandy and Gina have done over there
(01:46:09):
with the website.
Speaker 3 (01:46:10):
And I want to congratulate the Recorder.
Speaker 2 (01:46:12):
Speaking of Robert, I would like to get him or
someone from the newspaper on at some point in time,
because hats off and kudos to the Recorder on their
one hundred and thirtieth year anniversary. There is one hundred
and thirty years of the indian Office Recorder, and so
I say congratulations that Robert had given me a beautiful
(01:46:33):
pen commemorating the one hundred and thirty year anniversary. So
we got to get we got to get some folks
on from the Recorder here talking.
Speaker 15 (01:46:41):
About Robert Robert would be an excellent guess. He is,
without question, one of the sharpest minds in our community.
He's also read.
Speaker 3 (01:46:48):
She got that by the way, Yeah, yeah, obviously.
Speaker 15 (01:46:51):
It was recently named one of the two hundred and
fifty most influential business people in One Day to Indiana
by IBJ. So he's he is somebody that I think
he's a rain maker and a lot of think a
lot of people don't really understand how much rain he makes.
He really does a nice job.
Speaker 3 (01:47:08):
He does a beautiful job. So yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:47:10):
So Penske has been behind the diversity efforts out at
the IMS.
Speaker 3 (01:47:15):
That's a great thing.
Speaker 15 (01:47:17):
Throughout his whole organization, there have been a number of
people who have received opportunities, and I touched on that
article about you know, Jimmy McMillan and his efforts as
well to augment the overall efforts by Penske Entertainment to
be keep in mind every time will Power excuse me, JOSEPHS.
Newgarten pulls into for pitt service. There's a young lady
(01:47:39):
who goes over the wall as a tire changer. She
started off in Penske's NASCAR operations in North Carolina. Works
her way up to that current opportunity. It's unheard of
but yet long overdue for a strong willed woman to
be part of an integral race team. And I think
it's an excellent story. That's kind of another ratear. But
that's just one more example of what the commitment has
(01:48:01):
been like.
Speaker 3 (01:48:03):
Indeed, indeed, well I can't wait. I'm gonna go.
Speaker 2 (01:48:06):
Like I said, I got to go to the Recorder's
website and read it because I tried several times on
my phone to get it to display, and my phone
is really iffy.
Speaker 15 (01:48:14):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:48:14):
It's kind of sometimy, as the old folks used to
say so, but I'm looking forward to reading more about that.
So Danny, the let's see. Oh hold on just a second.
We have a winner already, another one, okay, Regina Robinson,
winner number three of our State Fair.
Speaker 3 (01:48:32):
Family four Pact tickets today.
Speaker 2 (01:48:34):
Regina, congratulations, thank you, Hello.
Speaker 3 (01:48:40):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:48:41):
I'm doing quite well, quite well. So what are you
gonna do with the tickets? You're gonna get them away,
You're gonna keep them?
Speaker 3 (01:48:44):
What are you gonna do?
Speaker 32 (01:48:46):
I'm going to keep them and find at least three
more friends that'll like to go with me.
Speaker 3 (01:48:50):
Do you usually go to the fair?
Speaker 34 (01:48:52):
I do.
Speaker 32 (01:48:53):
I went not last year, but the year before.
Speaker 2 (01:48:56):
Okay, okay, so fun time. And I tell you what,
today is a great day. I don't know about you,
but today the first day opening day. Danny and I
are probably going to talk about the food in just
a moment, because eventually most of our conversations get back
to food. Anyway, But congratulations to you, thank you for listening,
and we really appreciate you, and have fun.
Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
It's fair.
Speaker 2 (01:49:15):
I will thank you so much, thank you indeed, and
so Danny, Yeah, it is fair time, by the way,
and every year they unveil new foods that are, you know,
more decadent than the last. And I don't even know
what the most decadent one is this year, but it's
probably something deep. But you know that'll just clog your veins,
(01:49:36):
you know, all that stuff.
Speaker 15 (01:49:38):
Well, I like to eat, and I would certainly like
to get out there. Sometimes I'm a little reluctant the
parking and the walking. I'm a little bit I'm a
little bit spoiled in that department. But before we close
our conversation, as it pertains to Roger Pinsky and racing
the development yesterday with oh yeah, one third, one third
(01:49:59):
of than an Apple this Motor Speedway as well as
one third of the IndyCar series to their media partner,
Fox Sports. Is really a watershed moment. That partnership has
the potential from a marketing and promotion standpoint to put
IndyCar at a whole new level from a standpoint of
visibility and television ratings. Now, there are some folks that
(01:50:20):
would say, hey, look, Fox is trying to buy the
Annapolis Motor Speedway. Well, they do own a third of
it now, and certainly that is impressive, but that's not
a majority share. I don't think you're going to see
any change in how things work out there and what
their objectives are moving forward. I don't think the community
should be overly concerned about that. As far as as
(01:50:43):
an alternative embracing Fox Sports as a high level lucrative
business partner.
Speaker 2 (01:50:49):
Yeah, yeah, and that is yet to be seen, because
I know folks are skeptical of that.
Speaker 3 (01:50:54):
You made a really, really good point.
Speaker 2 (01:50:56):
They are about people being concerned about a takeover out
at the speedway. Jeff, we're a little shorter on time
than we normally are, but go ahead, Jeff, you have
a quick question for Danny.
Speaker 14 (01:51:09):
Hey, Danny, how you doing good afternoon? And a camera
you could chime into as well. I got two words,
Shannon Sharp.
Speaker 3 (01:51:18):
I'm gonna leave it at that, you know, Okay, all right,
thanks Jeff.
Speaker 2 (01:51:22):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 15 (01:51:26):
But it's a tough situation.
Speaker 2 (01:51:27):
That's yeah, it's enough situation.
Speaker 3 (01:51:31):
We do not have enough time, know what.
Speaker 15 (01:51:33):
Here's what I'll say. Oh, here's two words I'll use.
Let's talk about Sterling Sharp. He's going in his brother,
going into the Hall of Fame after a prestigious love
career that was cut short by injury, a fine career
and television after that. Yeah, I think we should look
at him and be happy for him. He'll be enshrined tomorrow.
(01:51:56):
I think it's overdue. I think it's well deserved. I
think he's been a very dignified, very low profile individual
as far as his career was concerned. But I can
tell you one thing. He was the first guy to
catch a hundred passes as a tight end two years
in a row, and he was a load. Asked the
Detroit Lions, asked the Chicago Bears, asked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
(01:52:19):
who were all in that division at the time. He
may not have a Super Bowl ring, but what he
does have is a very rich history of being a
high level football player and a well deserved enshrinement tomorrow.
So there's my comment for the Sharp family. I understand
Jeff's comments. I think those things are better be ever
left unsaid. I hope that I hope that he gets
(01:52:43):
his act together in terms of moving forward with his career.
I mean, I'm talking again about Shannon, but certainly Sharp
as some of a young person could look up to.
Speaker 2 (01:52:53):
Absolutely well, Matta, do you have a question for Danny.
Speaker 25 (01:52:57):
I was calling about the resources for tomorrow. There was
the website.
Speaker 2 (01:53:05):
Okay, I'll tell you what Cameron has that I just
texted to him, and if you stay on the line,
he can give that to you.
Speaker 3 (01:53:11):
Okay, all right, thank you, Okay, thank you, Danny. Yeah,
thank you you too.
Speaker 2 (01:53:16):
Real quickly, Colts Camp, anything going on there that we
that is not worthy.
Speaker 15 (01:53:21):
The one thing that kind of irritates me is Shane
Styke and recently spoke to a I'm not really I
can't recall the outlet it, but it's Stripporter. It was legitimate.
They were credential they were at camp, and he talked
about how the quarterback competition was interesting and competitive, and
I even think the term neck and neck was used,
at least by the reporter or as well as the coach.
(01:53:47):
That's nonsense. If Anthony Richardson's healthy, he'll be the starting
quarter Yeah, they're going to keep him on. They're going
to keep him on the short leash. If he doesn't
play well, then something's gonna happen there, and Daniel Jones
will get in there. But I just don't don't be
throwing dirt on this guy. Yeah in camp, in camp anyway?
Speaker 2 (01:54:04):
Okay, Well, if they're neck and neck, what does that
say about Daniel Jones?
Speaker 3 (01:54:08):
Me, He's been in the league. Yeah, a lot longer
than it says.
Speaker 15 (01:54:12):
It says a lot about the Colts front office and
going out and get a capable quarterback.
Speaker 13 (01:54:16):
I'll leave it at that.
Speaker 15 (01:54:17):
But let's not throw dirt on anybody in camp. That's
all I've got to say.
Speaker 2 (01:54:22):
I got Okay, I got you any final thoughts because
we uh, yeah, we.
Speaker 3 (01:54:25):
Spend a little bit more time with the champ. But gosh,
he was so worth it. I really talking.
Speaker 15 (01:54:30):
He's worth more the time than I am. Besides, he
can hit me upside the happy one more time.
Speaker 2 (01:54:34):
Hey, you know what, he showed me how to throw
a punch, and he told me the thumb and the
knuckles and the two knuckles.
Speaker 3 (01:54:39):
Yeah, he showed me a little something here in the
studio as well. We took a pic with that.
Speaker 15 (01:54:42):
So do me a favorite the microphone.
Speaker 2 (01:54:45):
Okay, punching anybody, no walls, no anything that is not
my thing.
Speaker 3 (01:54:51):
Danny, thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (01:54:53):
