Speaker 2 (00:26):
And good afternoon, and welcome to Community Connection on Tina Cosby.
Today is Friday, August the eighth, three one seven for
eight zero thirteen ten three one seven four eight zero
thirteen ten is the number two Community Connection. Lines are
now open for the rest of the show because it
is open lines Friday. On Friday, we do our best,
We do our absolute best to keep it all open lines.
(00:48):
Obviously sometimes we can't do that, but most of the
time it's open lines and a little weaker review. Our
contributing analyst James Patterson is away right now taking a
few days off, so for open lines in week in
Review today, it's going to be just me and you.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Of course the listeners in. Cameron is here as well.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Speaking of just just us, I mean, Cameron, I think
you're looking for something. Did you find it. Okay, uh,
the I guess we can. We can start off. We
had Danny lay on the Light. He was our last
guest yesterday with Sports and one of the last things
we talked about was the Colts and the Fever.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
You see the injury that Anthony rushs and got.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Well, here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Both the Colts and the Fever were in action on
the road and the Colts were in Baltimore for their
first preseason game, and the Fever were in Phoenix.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
The Colts lost. With the most concerning thing was what
you just mentioned.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Quarterback Anthony Richardson suffered another injury, this time a dislocated
pinky very early in the first quarter. I mean, was
that was that just his second series? I mean, I
don't think he even had three? Did he?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
It was there three series.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
And that sack was it shouldn't have did that, but
it's unfortunate.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Well, the lineman, the lineman absolutely had no clues that
that that edge rusher was coming around. I mean, he
just the lineman passed him going to block somebody else.
And so I don't know if that lineman was trying
to earn a job last night, but I don't think
he got one.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Uh, and I really never identified it. But be that
as it may.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
He took a nasty hit and dislocated his pinky finger, jeh,
and so it goes. I mean it was like, what
do they call that groundhog day?
Speaker 5 (02:38):
Yeah, which which one whether to see if he comes
up or not for the weather or determined.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Groundhog day is just deja vu? Okay, the dejah vou
groundhog day. That that energy, like, here we go again.
He hasn't been out there ten minutes and he's hurt again.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
I hate to say it, but when you look at
it from a draft perspective, he already had an injury
history in college.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
So he did it.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
I didn't know that.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
Yeah, he only played I think eleven games total before
he got drafted by US, so due to multiple injuries
and red shirting and what have you. So he has
an unfortunate history with injury, kind of like a in
basketball terms.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
He's like Anthony Davis, well.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Do you do you think?
Speaker 6 (03:23):
I mean?
Speaker 2 (03:24):
My father called me a glass. Yeah, he's made out
of glass. He seems to be. But and I guarantee
you though, had he done that in a game, most
quarterbacks would have said, where's the tape? You know, tape
it up and let's keep going. But it just took
him completely out. I mean for a game obviously if
it because this is preseason and he doesn't need to
(03:47):
go out there somewhat injured and risk getting injured further.
Of course, he was taken out of the game for
the remainder of the game. But still, I mean, like
I said, my father called me him last night and
he said he's gone. I said, what he said, He's
gone because they're not gonna. You know, they're not gonna.
Speaker 5 (04:04):
And here's the thing too, Timing could not be worse
because we have new ownership with Thirstay Daughters. I know
everybody's trying to make the oh it's it's no, no, no, no,
it's a whole new regime. We gotta put respect on
her name in the sense of she's not her father,
she is her own person. She's gonna run the team
completely different because it's a different personality, different mindset. And
(04:26):
I don't see them investing in Anthony Richardson as the
starting quarterback moving forward. Daniel Jones is going to be
a starting quarterback for the Innapolis coach moving forward. And
we needed to just go ahead and accept it. It's
unfortunate as it is, he's gonna have to accept the
fate of maybe he needs a new change of scenery.
Like Daniel Jones, who you know didn't work out a
pan out with the New York Giants, is getting a
(04:48):
second chance of brother of fresh air here in Indianapolis
as a colt. And I think Anthony Richardson, you know,
despite what we may have wanted for him, Uh, this
just didn't work out, and it's unfortunate. But when you
get new ownership, the first thing they look at is
you're not our guy. We didn't draft you, so we
don't have any loyalty to well.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I think, and what goes along with that is what
are we getting for our investment? You know that, you know,
that's the bottom, that's the key.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
And I think that that may be what the daughters
are looking at because they have a family business to maintain,
and what is our return on investments and to continue
to invest in pour money.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Uh into this guy.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
And you know, it's not his fault that the lineman
missed a block.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Uh, it's not his you know.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Although they were talking this morning about pocket awareness and
all this, no he had he didn't see the guy coming,
You're going to get those near. You're going to get those.
But he didn't see the guy coming. But to come
up with an injury after, you know, after a sack
and you're injured already, I mean, like.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
You said, within the first three series.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yes he didn't.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
He hadn't even run three three series yet I turned.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
I turned the game off as soon as that happened.
I didn't even want the recipes outcome. I was like, well,
he's out the morality team and this is the third stringers.
It's not and these people fighting for a position. Granted,
but none of the stars are really playing. It's preseason,
so I knew that outcome. I turned it off.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
How soon do you think they're releasing m I'm thinking
of You know, they're good. They've got a nice depth
charted quarterback for right now.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
It depends.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
They may let him finish the season out, but he's
not gonna start. He's gonna be on the bench because
you got Daniel Jones trying to prove that he's not
a bust.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
He didn't.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
He didn't really impress me last night either.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
I don't think he will, but I'm saying he came
from New York with a chip on his shoulder. So
you know, the abilities availability and that's something that Daniel
Jones does have despite he may not.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
He's available, but yeah, he's available. But he to me,
he wasn't playing like he had a chip on his shoulder.
I mean he was just going through the To me,
maybe I just mistook the energy.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
Look at it like this, we can we can miss
God or misdirect the energy. But it also could be
it's a preseason game. It doesn't really matter. I just
want to make it out without an injury. So I'm
just gonna play reserve because this game doesn't count towards
the regular season.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
No, not not for the pretty much for the starters,
for the others who are trying to make that fifty
three man roster.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Uh, it's it's do or die, just like I said.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
And I'm sure there were some cuts last night after
that game, and I and I wonder, I seriously wonder,
uh if that lineman who who missed that head rusher
clean they.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Probably had his bags packed before they got back to.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
The locker room because they said what locker Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
He you know.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
And speaking so anyway, the Colts Coats lost. They didn't
do too badly looked. Okay, uh, you know, like you said,
it was preseason and and we'll see they play next
week against the Dolphins in their second game.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Standards.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Not to get away from too far, but I'm missed.
Just to see what the Cleveland Browns do tonight against
the Panthers.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
What time do they play? Okay? Is that going to
be nationally televised as well?
Speaker 4 (07:53):
That I don't know, let me take a look.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
It might be very well, might be that's.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
The game I want to I want to see what
your door does with this hoortunity. Because he initially was,
like we said, like strength for him up to starting
within like a week.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
You see how that plays out for him tonight.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Yeah. Well, anyway, the Colts have they they've got, you know,
it's nothing new, and they're probably thinking, okay, you know,
they probably had their their game plan. And as far
as Shador, yeah, I'd love to see what he does tonight.
I don't know if it'll be nasty television.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
I think it will be as ABC pos Okay.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
If he's he probably well, I don't know. He may
play a little, he may play a lot. It's hard
to tell, but he's going to start right. He got
the start.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Yes, uh will start. They announced that a couple of
days ago.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Good good.
Speaker 7 (08:42):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
We talked about two of the city's professional sports franchises,
the other being the Fever, and last night they took
a beating, the worst of the year. Uh, but in
more ways than one. I think they lost about like
thirty five points. But not only did they lose by
thirty five points, they lost two guards to injury. And
(09:05):
on top of the fact that Caitlin Clark is looking
more and more like she may not be able to
return before the seasons.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Did you watch the game last night?
Speaker 2 (09:14):
I watched as much as I could stand now. I
watched up until maybe halftime, and then I think I
fell asleep. Sophie Cunningham was doing all she could do,
Kelsey Mitchell was doing They were doing everything they could do.
I missed both of those injuries, but I did see them.
I didn't watch live because I went to be because
I realized that they just didn't have it in their tank.
(09:34):
They were not at halftime. I realized they were not
going to win that game.
Speaker 8 (09:39):
Seven.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Oh they do, okay, okay, but apparently Sidney Colson, she's
a reserve guard.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
But she gets her minute.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
She gets her birthday, birthday, birthday two days ago.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Okay, uh, non contact knee injury. And you know, from
what it looked like in the video, it ain't looking good.
She may be gone for the year. They haven't mentioned her,
they haven't given a report on that. But nobody touched her.
She just went down and she was in excruciating pain.
We saw it with Juju. We saw it with Tyrese Halliburton.
We saw I mean, when when something serious is going
(10:14):
on and nobody has touched you, I mean some serious
pain and wailing and agonizing and nobody has touched you,
that's that's not good.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
And then six hours ago to any star on the injury,
you say it may be a a C.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
L yeap, yep, yep, that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Yeah, yeah, they were speculating about that last night.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
But you know, didn't you bring up Juju no contact.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
The same thing?
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Uh, the other one, Superstars, This young lady has really
been doing well. Aray McDonald. Well, she left with what
looked like an ankle injury. Uh, and so that that's
kind of day to day as well. So they lost
the game, the worst of the season. And they lost
two of their bear guards and hope we're hoping Ari
(11:03):
can come back. I am doubtful that Sidney Colson, I
think she may be done.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
According to Aery McDonald, it was a right foot injury.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
The right foot foot.
Speaker 9 (11:12):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
She was like, okay, it was around the foot, uh
star twelve hours ago she yeah, it looked like that somewhat.
I was just looking at the video and so. But anyway,
she can probably get that patched up and get back
on the court, depending on how.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
It depends on what type of foot injury.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
Now, if it's like a Liz Frank fratcher or like
anything like hairline for anything like that, well no, Lord,
for it is not you know, that severe. She can
make it back. But if not, we're talking about being guardless.
As being guardless, have any guards.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
They don't have any left, do they?
Speaker 4 (11:48):
No, not that I know, based on the death chart.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
I don't think so. So Fever and you know, you know,
not real good night for the hometown teams last night,
But for the Cults is pre season for the Fever.
They still have a winning season and still right now
have a good solid spot in the playoffs. Let's hope
that something can get turned to. You know, nothing gets
any worse for him, you know, get turned around or
(12:14):
what have you. But yeah, there was speculation last night
about that. So three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten.
Three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten lines are
open because it is open lines Friday, Open Lines Friday.
The other thing that I wanted to do today, I
(12:35):
first want to give away a two it's a two pack,
a pair two A pair two tickets to see Marvin
Sap at the Gospel Music Festival coming up Sunday, August
seventeenth at the Indiana State Fair. The Hoosier Lottery Free
(12:56):
Stage is where all of that is going to be.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
If you would like two tickets to.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
There's been some confusion about the Gospel concert ticket because
those come in twos the State Fair, to the Fair itself,
those come in fours. So right now we're giving away
the two reserved seating reserved seating at the Gospel Music
(13:24):
Festival at the Indiana State Fair on Sunday, August seventeenth,
featuring Marvin Sap. Three one seven four zero thirteen ten,
three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten, Caller number four.
Caller number four. If you are caller number four. You
will win the.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Two tickets to see Marvin Sap.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
And they will be reserved in a special section for
reserved seating only, for reserved seating only. So there's there's
going to be that, and from what we understand, it
is always a good time.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
It's the last day of the fair.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
The weather is usually really good, the lineups are absolutely fantastic.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
I don't you know what I wish I did have that.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
We've had local, We've had our local talent, local gospel
talent in there, including our very own Lamar in years past.
And I need to get that. I need to get that.
That's why he sent me that. That's all I have
right now is who's your lottery? Free stage Gospel Music
Festival featuring Marvin Sap, the last day of the Fair.
(14:32):
It's going to be a good one. It's going to
be a good one and not only will you get
into to see him, you will get reserved seating. So
we asked for caller number four. Good luck, good luck
to you. If you are caller number four, that will
be all of the Gospel Music Festival tickets for today.
Although keep listening because we will be giving away State
(14:56):
Fair tickets as well, so as I was saying, it
is open lines three, one, seven, four, eight, zero, thirteen,
ten and somewhat of a week in review from a
newsy Happening developments perspective, It's been a busy week with
lots of developments from the Indiana State Fairs, starting this
(15:17):
new week with stricter guidelines for unaccompanied miners. That was
a big story in the news that almost immediately after
a brawl erupted on the midway between a bunch of
young unaccompanied teenagers last Saturday at the fair, the fair
moved quickly to tighten things up and to lock it
(15:40):
down to where now the age for an adult to
accompany a juvenile under the age of eighteen has been
moved from twenty one to twenty five, twenty one to
twenty five. The other change has been that even if
you are twenty and you are bringing youngsters or people
(16:03):
in under the age of eighteen, you can only bring
in four. One person can only bring in four. That's changed,
and so it's really I didn't hear. In fact, I'm
going to go out here on a limb and say
I didn't hear one person out on a limb not lemon,
but I'm going to go out on a limb.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
I didn't hear a single person disagree.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
With that, that tighter policy, And probably that's a good
thing because I think we all want first and foremost,
everybody wants to be able to enjoy the fair, including
our young people. But we shouldn't have to navigate ourselves
around disruptions and brawls and fights in the middle of
the midway, especially by youngsters that are not with anyone
(16:51):
who can supervise them. So yeah, there wasn't much of
a problem about that. We do have coming up this
week Monday is that the eleventh, Yes, Monday, the Indianapolis
City County Council Full Council is going to vote on
the cities revised in upgraded curfew policy curfew policy, So
(17:15):
stay tuned for that. That's coming up. So we do
have a winner, everybody. We have a winner for the
Marvin SAP tickets. And is it Let's see Avas freesing.
I'm not sure I'm pronouncing that correctly. And Avus are
you there? Hello?
Speaker 10 (17:36):
Hello?
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Yes, hi? How are you?
Speaker 1 (17:38):
I'm doing great?
Speaker 11 (17:39):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (17:40):
I'm doing great?
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Not as good as you. I don't have free tickets,
so reserve.
Speaker 12 (17:45):
Well, good, good, good.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Have you ever been to gospel festival at the Fair before?
Speaker 13 (17:51):
Absolutely?
Speaker 14 (17:51):
I go every Oh okay, so excited.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
Oh good.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Well this year you're going to be in the reserve
seating section so you don't have to look for a seat.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
You will be a special guest.
Speaker 14 (18:03):
Thank you, thank you?
Speaker 2 (18:05):
All righty, well, thank you? Who are you going to take?
Speaker 15 (18:09):
I'm so sorry?
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Now who are you gonna take with you?
Speaker 11 (18:12):
My husband?
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Oh well that's a good choice. That's a good choice.
Speaker 8 (18:17):
Yes, TJ will be my Yes, so much.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Thank you, and you all enjoyed the show. Thank you
for listening, and thank you for calling in. I really
appreciate it. Okay, all right, take care. Uh so yeah, alrighty, alrighty,
there's one that's one down. We still have a family
four pack of State Fair tickets to give away and
we will do that sometime during the show.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
So yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
So anyway, we were talking about, you know, some of
the news that has taken place throughout the course of
the week. Uh and uh, you know, like I said,
we kicked off the week with that newer stricter policy.
When the fair reopened on Tuesday, they yeah, they were
ready and then we talked about the I just kind
of threw in that the City County Council full Council
(19:04):
is going to vote on enhanced curfew standards for the
City of Indianapolis. They're going to vote on that the
full Council meeting on Monday. Seven four eight zero thirteen
ten three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten is
the number to the show open lines for whatever may
be on your mind. Open lines for whatever is on
your mind. Also, in addition to the State Fair, you know,
(19:28):
changes at the State Fair. Just last night, just yesterday,
the Vice President jd Vance was in town meeting with
the Governor Mike Braun. Braun, of course is a Republican.
Jd Vance, of course is a Republican. So what's going
on there is that Republicans are hoping to redraw congressional
(19:48):
lines to give Republican lawmakers more of an advantage in
Congress in the upcoming midterm elections. That is, basically moving
things around so they don't lose. Yeah, at the bottom line,
I didn't I really went.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
To I know it's the bottom line, Yes, is the perspective,
But it's just it's funny how you phrased it like, look,
they're gonna cheat, they're gonna find a way to get
in it.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
And then I see where you're going with.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
They don't want to lose, so they're just gonna change
the rules.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
Uh, you know mid census because the census typically that's
when you redraw the lines, and every ten years when
the census takes place. You know, twenty twenty was the
last one. Twenty thirty will be the next one. Midway
through that census cycle. They want to do it now
why elections are coming up. Midterm elections are coming up.
They don't want to lose. So if you don't want
(20:43):
to lose, you change the rules. Now is it legal?
Speaker 16 (20:46):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (20:47):
This is the one of these situations where the administration
is led by someone who has no tolerance or use
for the rules at all, and rules are made to
be broken.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
I think might be the might be the model there.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
But anyway here in Indiana, seven of the state's nine
US congressional seats are Republican. Anyway, seven of the nine,
and I guess jd. Vance came to town to see if
Governor Brown would be willing to redraw them call a
(21:23):
special session because he's going to have to call him,
call lawmakers back in, and if he calls a special session,
he has a super majority of lawmakers. They're all you know,
the majority of them are Republican, so he's got a
lot of power. Just all he has to do is
call say, come on back in. I'm calling a special session,
which the governor can do, and I want to redo
(21:43):
these maps we were reading.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
I was reading yesterday that.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
If they were to do that or try to do that,
Northwest Indiana would almost certainly lose a congressional seat. Central
Indiana with US Representative Andre Carson, would be a little
more different because it's such a democratic stronghold that if
you tried to mess with it too much, it might
backfire in the sense that it would give democrats. So
(22:09):
I don't know, And I'm no political analysts, I'm no
redistricting analysts. I'm just reading and going by the very
basics so that I can explain the very basics to
you as well. Now, when JD. Vance was here to
talk to the governor about changing the rules mid cycle,
there were protesters. There were protesters outside the state House.
Speaker 10 (22:31):
And.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
They were you know, basically protesting against even considering and again,
Governor Brown has been pretty noncommittal about whether or not
he would do it.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
So yeah, yep, yep, yep.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
So what again, this is taking place, This is from
what's taking place in Texas three one, seven, four, eight, zero,
thirteen ten and got I got to tell you it
got uglier the last couple of days because the governor Texas,
Governor Abbott has said that he's going to get the
FBI and other law enforcement officers to go and bring
(23:12):
the Democratic lawmakers in Texas, bring them back to Texas.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Now, Illinois Governor JB.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Pritzker said that they're welcome here and they will not
be arrested or taken by the FBI.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
I'm not going to allow that to happen.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
So this, this showdown could get ugly, you know, between
the Illinois governor and Texas's governor. Texas's Governor's trying to
force the lawmakers back to make them be present so
that they can go ahead and get these lines redrawn
and you know, push things more in favor of the Republicans.
The Democratic lawmakers in Texas left so that they would
(23:51):
not be present because they did not want that to happen.
Their their approach, and rightfully so.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
So and so it goes.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
So there were protesting here outside of the Governor's office
and outside of the State House because Hoosiers also do
not want that to happen. So, you know, there we go.
The other thing that happened this week. Yeah, we'll have
(24:21):
to see. I you know, I kind of anticipate somewhat
that I anticipate someone that there's going to be a
blow up of some sort. I don't want it to happen,
but I think it will depending on how far and
how hard they want to push this Texas thing. So
we got to keep an eye on that. The also
(24:48):
here at home, well here at home, yes, some national
things were being brought here to them. We talked yesterday,
or I talked yesterday about what I had hoped was
not a sign of things to come, but it was
certainly cause for concern, and that being the paper card.
Glick Neighborhood Center at seventy first to Michigan Road temporarily closing.
(25:13):
They say it's temporary, but they have not given a
date for reopening yet. And what we understand is they're
having money problems, having money problems, financial hardships, to be exact,
and that threatens a valuable resource in the community. I
think I've shared with you that my daughter is a
(25:35):
teacher and some of the young kids that she teaches,
they go to that center for aftercare, before care and
sometimes aftercare because sometimes the center drops the kids off
where they need to be for school and then they
pick them up for aftercare. There that's all going to
be gone next week. That's all going to be gone,
and parents are going to be left there. They are
going to be left standing holding the bag with nowhere
(25:57):
to go and nothing to do with these with their children.
And so if parents can't work, that means employers aren't
going to have people to do the work because of
cuts and money drying up and all kinds of other things.
But this fable card Greek Neighborhood Centers at twenty nine
to ninety West seventy first Street. It's going to close
(26:18):
on August fifteenth, and it also includes the childcare center,
meaning parents who depend on the neighborhood Center for childcare
will need to make other arrangements.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
So it's kind of a.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
When the money is cut like that, it's kind of well,
let them eat cake, Well take them somewhere else, you know,
just don't. We can't afford it, so you take them
somewhere else, okay, in incredible financial challenges. And the reason
that I'm concerned is that a lot of these neighborhood
resource centers, in the community neighborhood centers, a lot of
(26:51):
them depend so much, are so much depended on buy
the families in those areas. And the city of Indianapolis
has a number a number of neighborhood community centers. Now,
the Click Center is the first one that has said
that they are losing money and absolutely had to do
something this drastic. But there are others, and you know,
(27:13):
just stay in touch with them and find out how
they're doing and if their services are still going to
be available right now. Again, we've heard nothing from anybody,
But here are some of the ones that you may
want if you're near them or use some of their services.
You may want to be aware of the CHRISTA mor House,
the Community Alliance on the Far east Side, Cafe Concord
(27:35):
Neighborhood Center, Edna Martin Christian Center, the Faber card Blick
Neighborhood Center, of course, Flannerhouse, Hawthorne Community Center, John H.
Bonner Community Center, La Plaza Martin Luther King Multi Service Center,
Mary Rigg Neighborhood Service Center, and the Shepherd Community Center. Again,
the Glick is closing temporarily with no apparent in sight.
(28:00):
We'll await a date for the reopening from them. So yeah,
there's that. It just sends chills, these poor these poor families,
these poor families.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Anyway, let's go to no, No, you know what.

As a ride share driver, I love keeping my car
smelling fresh and clean. So when I'm driving, I only
trust for Breeze Car Vanclipse featuring three distinct intensity settings
because it's that little touch that sets me apart. I
can turn the intensity down for subtle freshness, or I
can turn it up for when I want lots of sin.

thirteen ten. You know, just a little bit of an
interesting thing taking place here. It's called I want to
tell you about this, and I'm thinking we need to
get somebody in here to talk about it, if it
(33:09):
has already started or if it's been delayed, because I
haven't heard too much about it since we first found
out about it this spring. But there's a new reality
show featuring entrepreneurs set to begin filming in the summer
of this year. It's called Indie Bosses. It's an Indianapolis

going to take place in the summer of this year
twenty twenty five and features selected business owners or will

this reality show to life and inspire business owners in
Indianapolis and beyond. We need to find let me find
(34:28):
out more about the launch or if they're still filming,
or if they've even started filming at all. It would
be interesting, It would be interesting. Have you ever heard
of this or have you heard of this? Cameron Indie Bosses.
It sounds like it's going to be similar to some
other reality TV shows. Gala premier Indie Bosses join us
(34:53):
for an unforgettable evening as they We're going to at
Sheridan Uh oh, they're okay, get your tickets. Nope, I
don't have that. Okay stop. Yeah, let's see.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
This is news to me, but it sounds good.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Yeah. I'm trying to get the date on here. It's
a movement indian Impact real expreen. Yeah, we gotta get
somebody in here.
Speaker 10 (35:20):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
The premiere is Saturday, September the sixth, so I definitely
will get somebody in here by then. Yeah, and they're
having a gala and all of the seven to eleven
uh gala, and.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
It's gonna be.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
At the I thought I said shirt but anyway, Yeah,
the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel at Keystone Crossing. I know exactly
where that is, right across the street from Beni Hannah.
Uh So the gala premiere is coming up by September sixth,
so I'm gonna I'm gonna, I'm gonna pin that. Uh.
Speaker 3 (35:53):
But I guess they have for the most part or
us they're still editing on.
Speaker 2 (35:56):
It finished by now, they got most of the film. Yeah,
think thing you think that they had it mostly shot.
Also uh, taking place this week. I this was disturbed.
There's so many things we can't we can't get to
all of it, but this one kind of struck a
nerve because it's happened to me before, where you're just
(36:17):
minding your own business and as because I have to
tell you I'm black. Yep, everybody realize that I'm black.
So uh, but when people remind you that you're black, uh,
and a car loader truck full of white men decide
that they want to remind you that you're black, and uh, take,
you know, do something they I tell you. It was.
(36:40):
I was out on the West Side and the police
were directing traffic, and so I did exactly as the
police officer said. They didn't like it, and so they
looked and you know, looked at me and called me
an f and in and then took a beer can
and threw it at my car.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Yeah, and then sped off.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Like, oh yeah, you got her man, you know, okay,
And that was their thing. Well, when I saw this story,
it just brought back. It was a flashback. So this
happened on the I was on the West Side when
it happened to me. This happened on the city's far
north side. And yeah, and this is how it was
(37:23):
reported by WHR. Let's take a list.
Speaker 28 (37:25):
This afternoon and Indianapolis woman says two men through racial
other news. Now this afternoon in Indianapolis, woman says two
men through racial slurs at her and her kids and
then put a hole in her car.
Speaker 27 (37:36):
Our Ashton Hackman shows us the damage and shares what
the woman says happened.
Speaker 29 (37:41):
That woman tells me she comes to this gas station
on ninety sixth Street nearly every day but her entire
life living in Indianapolis. She says she's never experienced anything
like this.
Speaker 6 (37:51):
This is a hole that was put in my car.
Speaker 29 (37:54):
Rakkeeda Spears Easter says this hole came from two men
who were next to her at the Meyer gas station
on the far north east side. What was supposed to
be a normal trip Wednesday afternoon quickly changed.
Speaker 6 (38:04):
When I got out of my car, they threw outside
racial slurs directed towards me. Never acknowledged them, didn't pay
too much attention.
Speaker 29 (38:12):
Spears had her eight and two year old sons in
the back seat. She said she left the car locked
and running and went inside to pay for gas. When
she came back out. Her oldest son was crying.
Speaker 6 (38:21):
And I noticed that the hole in my car. I
asked my son what happened. He explained to me that
the two gentlemen that were throwing out racial slurs when
I first got to the gas station, one of them
walked up and started either banging or pushing on this window,
and then he yelled out some racial slurs and then
(38:43):
took a tool from the vehicle that they were driving
and swung it and hit my door.
Speaker 29 (38:47):
Spears filed the report with IMPD Thursday morning, after Fisher's
police told her it was out of their jurisdiction. She
says gas station clerks told her they didn't have cameras
that captured what happened. She just hopes the people responsible
are caught and says it was a teaching moment for
her kids.
Speaker 6 (39:02):
Those are just words, nasty words, but those are just words.
That's not who you are. Doesn't define you, and it
doesn't it doesn't make up who you are.
Speaker 29 (39:11):
The metropolice are investigating what happened and looking for the
people responsible. Anyone with information or who might have saw
anything or asked to give IMPDI a call.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
Yeah, and uh, like I said, that that has happened
to me, that's happened to me before.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
Uh, And it was a dent in my car. Car
was the black car.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
It was a dent.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
And yeah, and there's not a whole lot you can do.
It is maddening. Uh, it's a little frightening.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
My child at the time when he was he was
in the back seat in a car seat, and so he, uh,
he doesn't remember. I wouldn't remember, but I'll never forget it.
But I just think that this is a that there's
a there's an there's an there's an atmosphere, there's an
environment out there where so more and more people are
(40:02):
feeling like they're entitled to do these kinds of things.
This is what they you know, the freedom that they
feel like they've been handed with certain things, certain rules,
certain executive orders, all kinds of stuff. And people are
feeling more and more emboldened to act out like this
against others that they feel are less then or they
think are less then. And so we just have to
(40:25):
be careful now that one could have quickly descended into
something ugly.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
It's just disturbing.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
You couldn't see the story, but they did some pretty
good damage to her car and could have hurt her
child that was in the back. They didn't care because
they wanted to make their point that you know, so
and so you are an N word. So we got
to be really really careful of that. Call her online
one go ahead.
Speaker 20 (40:56):
You know that the judge that does not care about
somebody calling you to end words. People need to get
over it. I mean, every day I listen to your
Sheltina and people are calling in trying to blame the
white man for everything. If it wouldn't for the white man,
we would not have America. Because he built America and
he's responsible for most people's jobs right now and the
(41:18):
way that America is functioning on an economical banner. The
black man can't bind to that most of the time
because he's never built anything.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
So how do you see it that the institution of
slavery were millions of black men and women were forced
to create economies. How do you see it that the
white Are you saying because the white man was the
slave owner and that he forced the slaves to physically
do the labor themselves and build America? Is that what
you're saying, or are you saying that the white men
(41:50):
were out in the cotton fields doing that. I just
I'm just not I'm not clear on what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (41:55):
What I'm saying is what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Initially, when you said the white man and built America,
that's initially that's false. I mean, yeah, there's parts of America,
but when you look at what slaves built, you cannot
say that. We just sat back on Well anyway, go ahead,
I want to hear the rest of it. Go ahead.
Speaker 20 (42:14):
Well, see they never built anything because they never built
anything in Africa all the time.
Speaker 3 (42:19):
They didn't build the White House.
Speaker 2 (42:20):
Who built the know.
Speaker 20 (42:21):
They did the white Irishman built the White.
Speaker 3 (42:24):
House, built the White House.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
Well, I don't think I don't think that's entirely act.
Speaker 20 (42:28):
Irish Masons Irish masons. And the reason why I know
this is is because my uncle Charlie was a mason
out there and helped to build the National Cathedral. He
was under the tutelage and the apprenticeship of irishman who
taught him the trade. Black people built nothing in Africa,
not one stone minu that they might.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
What about the pyramids, And that's not Africa, that's not Africa.
Speaker 20 (42:55):
That's not Africa. You left.
Speaker 13 (42:58):
But it's true.
Speaker 20 (42:58):
You can't prove me wrong, really, because black people all
they do is destroy. Look at everywhere they rule, it's
all ghetto, slums, crime, everything else bad everywhere they ruled,
you know, And you can't deny that because so uh,
you know, I think the black man does not understand
the way the world functions. He does not understand Western civilization.
(43:23):
That's why he's going nowhere. The best thing he's done
when he came to America and it was helped by
the white man to learn how to do something. But
he threw all that away right now, he threw it
all away. I was at the State House yesterday, you.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
Know, Larry, you know what.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
I can. I can't anybody. You're destroy.
Speaker 3 (43:54):
You don't like Floyd, you don't like you.
Speaker 20 (43:57):
Don't George Floyd is your hero.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
Well, okay, thank you, Larry. I appreciate your call. Thank you, Larry.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
And you know what, that was important because uh some no,
the of it was nonsense. Was just nonsense, and we
know better. That's why we know better. Because anyhow, let's
go to let's go back to the phone line three
one seven for a zero thirteen ten mayhem, go ahead, mayhem,
(44:30):
go ahead. How are you hello?
Speaker 3 (44:32):
Yes, yes, how's it going?
Speaker 4 (44:35):
It's going?
Speaker 3 (44:36):
Well?
Speaker 11 (44:37):
Hey, was that a commercial or something?
Speaker 3 (44:40):
But you made a commercial?
Speaker 11 (44:43):
Because it's embarrassing really hearing a live person talk like that.
Speaker 2 (44:48):
It's nonsense. It's nonsense. I don't know why people want
to call in and talk like that. But you know, yeah,
that No, it wasn't a commercial.
Speaker 20 (44:58):
Was that.
Speaker 11 (45:00):
The incident of ninety six? Uh the minority?
Speaker 3 (45:05):
I think it was a gas station.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
It looked like in the pictures, it looked like a
marathon station right off of a ninety six and four
sixty five right up there.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
I think that that's where that was.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
And she's yeah, she said she'd been going there, yeah,
going there for a while. But yeah, yep, yep.
Speaker 11 (45:22):
But you know that happened in county that's Fisher's district.
Why why they didn't why they said they couldn't do nothing.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
I don't know. That's interesting.
Speaker 11 (45:31):
That's interesting because that's out of IPD district. I mean,
ninety six is the county the line. I don't understand
why Fishers did not do anything.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
It must have been really right up on the line.
And you know, I don't know, I found that curious
as well. I found that very curious as well. So
there must be some kind of jurisdictional.
Speaker 5 (45:54):
Based on that's that's Marion County on that side.
Speaker 3 (45:58):
On that side of Oh, you're right, you know what. Yeah,
across the street and then north across the street.
Speaker 4 (46:04):
Yeah, nice history, you cross it. You're in Heilton Coumpty.
Speaker 3 (46:06):
Yeah, America.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
Yeah, yep, yep, yep, you're right, thank you, Yeah, go ahead,
go ahead.
Speaker 11 (46:13):
That's goods Hey. I wanted to interject, is you've got
some young lady that calls and always rent and cussing
and always talking about Andre Carson. I mean that knowledge
is good, but there's no wisdom there. We could go
with the person is fighting for you? What does she
(46:36):
want the Republicans that we only got two districts of Democrats?
She went the Republicans to take that. I mean, if
she thinks things are bad now, wait, I think.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
Her point was she wanted to see more fight out
of those who are in uh in power that are
not in the majority.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
She wanted to see it and feel it.
Speaker 2 (46:56):
And she's not unlike a whole lot of other folks
that feel like perhaps the Democrats aren't fighting hard enough
and be out of her passion.
Speaker 3 (47:04):
And I appreciate her call.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
She just gets so passionate, and I think she forgets
you know, the station, uh that that we're all but
any station, it doesn't even have to be a praise
and inspiration station. Any station you can't utilize that. And
I want to keep us on the air so we
can keep talking. I don't want to get suspended for
forr foul language. So whenever she calls back, and she's
welcome to call back, we'll you know, well that's good,
(47:28):
but yeah, we'll tamp down the language because we have well,
I mean that's okay.
Speaker 16 (47:34):
I I.
Speaker 11 (47:37):
He's fighting, he's fighting what he's got. I mean we
talk a lot, and really we don't back our players.
Speaker 20 (47:45):
I mean we back them with a lot of a
lot of mouth.
Speaker 11 (47:48):
They need money and need more people. I mean, you
got to realize he has not that many people backing him.
I mean, you got a lot of black people talking,
but they're not backing you.
Speaker 2 (48:00):
Well, I think, you know, and that's a good that's
a good, good point. Mayhem and his resources are limited,
and I think, yeah they are.
Speaker 3 (48:08):
But the reason that I.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
Enjoyed conversing with Dana, because she does she she doesn't
just talk mayhem. She told me everything that she has done,
you know, Precinct Committee one, knocking.
Speaker 3 (48:21):
On doors, registering voters, and voting herself.
Speaker 2 (48:23):
She says, I've done everything I can do, and I'm
going to continue to do everything I can do. But
it just upsets me when others, including our elected officials,
are not as passionate or don't seem to be as
passionate about it and don't seem to have the same
sense of urgency about it is She's there's nothing substance,
substances less, I mean, you know whatever, There's nothing hollow
(48:45):
about what she said or what she did because she
doesn't just talk. The talk she listed went down the
list of everything she does. She walks the walk. So
I don't think it was empty. I don't think it
was marriorless or baseless.
Speaker 11 (48:57):
Good, don't let it back far because well.
Speaker 2 (49:01):
I mean, that's that's why we have to we have
to tailor our conversations again so that we can stay
on the air because the FCC has strict guidelines about
what we do. And believe you me, with the FCC
that's out there now, thank you mayhem, I appreciate it.
The FCC that's there now, they probably would look for
any reason whatsoever to get rid of a black radio
(49:21):
station or a black radio station, take us off the
air because of what we say and what we do.
So we just have to figure out how to say
there's nothing wrong with the passion. Let's just we just
got to do it within the confines of what we're
allowed to do. Uh three one seven four eight zero
thirteen ten three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten.
Speaker 3 (49:39):
Victoria, go ahead, how are you hey?
Speaker 14 (49:42):
How are you today?
Speaker 3 (49:43):
I am well, how are you today?
Speaker 15 (49:45):
I am truly blessed.
Speaker 14 (49:46):
And see, that's a lot of times that's where we
get off that by being at other people's feelings and emotions.
You know, we can't stop other people feelings, any emotions.
And a lot of times when we get in people
feeling any emotions, that calls it the problem of whoever
they claim or whoever they blame to cut us off.
But I was just at a filling.
Speaker 15 (50:06):
Station over on thirty eighth and Temple.
Speaker 14 (50:09):
And I think when it comes to the prejudicy of
the white and black and what they put in our faces,
whether we white, whether we're black. I think it has
a lot to do with the way that we're built
up in our community as well as in our home
coming up as children to adulthood. And there are some
children that were standing out in front of the filling.
Speaker 30 (50:31):
Station here on thirty eighth in Keystone Well Temple actually,
and usually the little boys are out there asking for money,
and if you don't get more money and they see money.
Speaker 14 (50:41):
In your hands, they cuss you out. So coming out
of the store, they selling eminems and different stuff that
the store sells. So the man came and asked the
children to leave because they cannot sell these candies in front.
Speaker 8 (50:54):
Of the store.
Speaker 14 (50:55):
And these are our little kids, our little colored kids.
As the little white cussed them out, just cussed them out.
Well actually, like I talked, and then it was another
little guy that came up and he gave them money
for this candy. But like I told him, this is
what's wrong with.
Speaker 15 (51:10):
The communities now, because as children as an adult.
Speaker 14 (51:14):
When we see the bad things of people and things
happen like that, to us, it's about helping, you know,
giving people what their need. Like you're giving this lady
something that she needs on wherever she was, you know,
you're putting it on the radio. You getting the support
so that she can know that she has the support
of other people. And this God gave these kids some money.
(51:38):
And I looked at him and I said, you know what, sir,
I said, I could buy probably the whole box of
candy that those kids were out there selling. I said,
but one reason why I didn't was because they stand
in front of the station and they cuss people out
day and night. I mean, this goes on from sometimes
from early end of the day when you think they're
supposed to be in school, all the way to the midnight.
(52:00):
And like I told him, a lot of times you
find that candy from them. They're supporting them, of giving
them what they want, not what they need, because that's
not important, because really they're validating somebody else is a
company of a business.
Speaker 19 (52:15):
So I say this to say a lot of times,
you know, because I listening to this show every day,
and a lot of times, you know, it's about the
support of giving people.
Speaker 30 (52:25):
What they need and not what they want.
Speaker 14 (52:27):
And a lot of times those people up there, Fishers Lovelesville, Westfeld,
I'm dealt with a lot of them, and I'm gonna
tell you sometimes they don't even help their own people,
you know. And the support of this radio station has
done a great deal of bringing some things out. Andre Carson,
I love my cousin, I love him, I love them.
Speaker 15 (52:48):
To love them, love them, love them to death.
Speaker 14 (52:50):
And people don't understand when you put those beings in
and you put those recommendations and that communication in with him,
it's not that he's not working, but you.
Speaker 19 (52:59):
Still have step I'm turiou.
Speaker 14 (53:01):
It's not that he's not the boundary of.
Speaker 15 (53:03):
The steps you gotta take.
Speaker 14 (53:04):
Sometimes you have to go through the n double act.
Speaker 31 (53:07):
Sometimes you have to go through the mayor. I hear
him talking about the maryor ain't doing nothing common mayor.
One day they laid me wait for four days before
they came out and got a cat. But they came
and got it in two or three days.
Speaker 14 (53:18):
So sometimes you have to be.
Speaker 3 (53:20):
Patient and be absolutely.
Speaker 14 (53:22):
It's all about.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
Absolutely I do.
Speaker 2 (53:28):
I agree, I agree, And that's why I was explaining,
she's just frustrated.
Speaker 3 (53:32):
That's all you do.
Speaker 14 (53:35):
You do the thing when you talk about talking about
other people, because I don't know what other people going through.
You know, people look at me and say, well, Wow,
you haven't done no time. I'm done over thirty five
years in the system, and I'm gonna tell you something.
It wasn't the about that I kept doing in and out,
in and out. It was our lifestyle. It's the way
(53:55):
our community communicable people, even in relationships. You know what
I'm said, It's not about what people have done to us.
It's about what we're gonna.
Speaker 15 (54:04):
Do when they do it, you know.
Speaker 14 (54:06):
And a lot of times it takes a lot of
fact and playing to get over there, you know.
Speaker 19 (54:12):
And I just want to thank you for your show.
Speaker 20 (54:14):
I really do.
Speaker 2 (54:15):
Excuse me, well, thank you, Victoria. I appreciate that. Sorry,
I was sneezing. Didn't mean to do that, but yeah,
she she made some good points, as as most of
you always do.

Wtoc AM W two three six C are Indianapolis discussing
the issues that matter to you and keeping you informed

(01:00:26):
Praise AM thirteen ten ninety five point one FM.
Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
And we are back with Community Connection. Just want to
follow up real quickly. I take that with a grain
of salt. Larry who said that black people never build anything,
they just tear it up. You know, that's that's unfortunate
that there's such not enough of a sense of pride
in what we as a people have accomplished and have done. Egypt,
(01:00:51):
the great pyramids of Egypt were built by Africans, because
Egypt is in Africa. The White House, Yeah, well, there
are a great pyramids around as well, but you know
the most famous ones in Egypt.
Speaker 3 (01:01:06):
The White House.
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
Yes they did, yes, they did, alongside probably some wage
earning white people here and there, but for the most
part they did.
Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
The slaves. Not only the White House. How about the
US capital? How about the streets you heard.
Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
Of Benjamin Banneker he laid out so the other The
reason I don't argue too vehemently when you know somebody's
that far gone and is that wrong, there's just no point.
You just let them go on and and wallow in
their self hate if they want to. I don't think
that people call on this show and complain and blame
white people. I think that again to discount us and
(01:01:48):
our history and the marvelous, wonderful things that we should
take pride in that we have done. We are fantastic,
We're great people, and hopefully one day Larry will come
to appreciate that. Uh three one, seven, zero, thirteen ten.
Let's go back to the phone lines. Let's see Sam.
Speaker 3 (01:02:05):
Go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:02:06):
How are you Sam?
Speaker 3 (01:02:10):
Are you there?
Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
Okay, Well, let's let's put sand back on hold. Maybe
she's trying to get her phone together. Uh, let's see Andre.
Go ahead.
Speaker 20 (01:02:21):
Hey, Tina, thank you so much for your show.
Speaker 15 (01:02:25):
It's always a joy to listen to the conversations.
Speaker 8 (01:02:30):
That come on.
Speaker 36 (01:02:32):
But yes, again, I can't let it go. This is
a follow up to mister Larry.
Speaker 37 (01:02:37):
But you know, you think about, through blood, sweat and tears,
what black people have been able to accomplish. And just
a couple of references to the massacre that happened in
Tosa where we had built a very successful of black
(01:02:58):
black business owns, where you know, the white supremacists had
came in two day massacre where they tried to tear
down what we had built up. You think about the lady,
the black lady minds you that now owns.
Speaker 14 (01:03:14):
A billion dollar whiskey company.
Speaker 37 (01:03:16):
Uncle nearest, I think that's the whiskey.
Speaker 3 (01:03:20):
That yeah, Uncle Nerist, Yes, absolutely.
Speaker 37 (01:03:23):
Yeah, she's a billion dollar whiskey company.
Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
You know what when you're when you're when you don't know,
you just don't to make your point, you have to
if you want to make a point that that's that's
skewed and that out of touch with reality. I guess
you have to come up with stuff in your head.
I don't know, but it you know, history just simply
doesn't doesn't support those those those views, if you will,
because there's no fact to any of it. The history
(01:03:47):
just doesn't support it. And like I said, if we
know our history, we have a lot to be proud of.
Speaker 3 (01:03:51):
We have a lot to be proud, very very very
a lot.
Speaker 14 (01:03:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 37 (01:03:55):
Not only that, but I think about, you know, these
different acts that have come along to build up or
give legacy to certain groups of people, like the homestead
the homestead acts where they gave you one hundred and
one hundred and sixty acres of land if you went
(01:04:16):
and you know, cultivated it.
Speaker 14 (01:04:18):
Or grew it or you know, whatever have you.
Speaker 36 (01:04:21):
It was a lot of black people in you.
Speaker 37 (01:04:23):
Know that couldn't afford the small fouling fee or the
registration fee after the five years was up.
Speaker 8 (01:04:31):
So it's like.
Speaker 36 (01:04:34):
Larry, poor Larry.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
Yeah, I would hate to conversation with Yeah, bless his heart,
and he you know.
Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
Anyway, I don't know, but I did want to hear
what you know, and.
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
Nothing has changed in that in that mindset there, nothing
has changed that much has changed. But yeah, there's a
lot to be proud of it. And I think more so,
you know, now, more than ever, we need to bring
that to light so that those around us who are
younger and coming up, so that we make sure that
they hear it and make sure that they know it,
(01:05:07):
because there are efforts like you would not believe, as
you very well know probably have heard, to erase it
and to take it off the fair I mean, there's
all they're they're already talking about restoring the Confederate statues
in some cities and town just because uh, you know,
the South's going to do it again. I guess what's
that song? The Sound's going to do it again. I
don't know, but just just to you know, I don't
(01:05:29):
mean to laugh, but it's just so far gone. It's
just so far gone. It's just not even productive. If
you don't even have a common uh we can't even
agree in a well anyway whatever, whatever, But thank you, andre, I.
Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
Appreciate your call, all righty, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
Three one seven four eight zero thirteen ten. Three one
seven four eight zero thirteen ten mister Russell, go ahead,
how are you?
Speaker 38 (01:05:54):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (01:05:55):
I wanted to hitchike on on your last caller because
it's dangerous to let ignorant uh beyond the air, like
mister Larry does. I truly think Larry's been hypnotized.
Speaker 20 (01:06:13):
Because he.
Speaker 8 (01:06:16):
Is he's totally uh different from when I first many
years ago, you.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Know, oh yeah, oh really he was.
Speaker 8 (01:06:25):
He was quite he was quite an advocate uh for
people in the black community. But I think he's been
hypnotized unknowingly. He's taking these oppositions. But it's dangerous, you know,
to let that go on the air, because there's so
many people that really are listening.
Speaker 11 (01:06:47):
That don't know.
Speaker 8 (01:06:48):
And I think that I think the fact that it's
similar to what happened to the Democratic Party in this
last few years. You know, they didn't clap back when
the Fall's charges were made and so that was a
big mistake. I think they are learning a lesson at
(01:07:09):
this point.
Speaker 2 (01:07:10):
But anyway, but you know what, mister hold your thought
right there, and I think I really do believe Diana
and I said, and Deon said, Amos always said it.
We have some of the most intelligent listeners around, and
so I don't think that too many of our listeners
are fooled by the nonsense that that is spewed by
(01:07:30):
that particular caller. But I also think that it's an
important reminder. It's a teachable moment for listeners to understand
that there are people who live in different realities than
the realities in which you live, and this is what
they look like, this is what they sound like, this
is who they present themselves as. They may present themselves
(01:07:51):
as a black person, but they're living in a completely
different reality.
Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
And I think that it's a good reminder.
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
It's a good reminder that we have to stay on point,
we have to stay on track because there are people
just like that who don't live in the reality. They
don't live in.
Speaker 3 (01:08:07):
The real world. They have no use for reality.
Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
They have their minds set in a certain way, a
certain way, and that's the way it goes. And they're black, white,
and everything else in between. So don't let it fool
you to think that just because he's he's black, or
maybe because he did you know at one point, as
you say, mister Russell, I don't think it's as dangerous
as much as it is educational, because I think our
(01:08:30):
callers and our listeners can fend for themselves. I don't
think any danger of them being radicalized by a single
phone call. And I don't take those calls very often
because but this particular topic, I thought that maybe you know,
we could talk, but no, he isn't it. He's completely
in a different reality. And as such, we need to
(01:08:52):
be mindful of that. We need to be aware of that,
and we need to fight against that in terms in
every way that we can, with fact, with truth, uh
and with reality as it really is. If that makes sense,
I know that's redundant.
Speaker 8 (01:09:07):
Yeah, yeah, I agree, But what I'm saying is that
you have you have people that that know the difference,
but then you have people that don't over difference, and
then I think these are the people that you have
to be concerned about. You know, you could say that
uh uh, they redistrict redistrict in Africa because you know,
(01:09:29):
the people like from Egypt. Some people don't consider Egypt
part of Africa, but you know, redistrict in Egypt and
some of the old places, you know. So so what
I'm saying is, even though it seems kind of silly,
it's important to to to to clap back because like
(01:09:55):
a lot of a lot of people don't realize that
that force the Moors m O O R. S uh
uh included Hannibal, which upings over the apps. They still
don't really know how he did it. And then uh,
you know, conquered uh Spain for instance, and and uh
if you look at the history, yeah, I mean there's
(01:10:21):
so many things, but a lot of people don't a
lot of people don't really know this. And it's in
partant at every little whips that I think you have
to bring it out, you know, because a lot of
people don't know that when the Mores conquered Spain, they
had to educate a lot of the people in Spain
(01:10:42):
that they were eating food off off of tables or
or boards or whatever, and the Mores showed them how
to use plate for instance. I mean, just basic things
like that to a lot of people don't know this.
And I guess my point is that we need to
bring it out as much as possible because we can't
(01:11:03):
just wait till one month in February to think about
Black history. We have to constantly remind people about the constributions.
Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
Well, yeah, and and not only remind people, but celebrate them,
you know, throughout the course of the year. You're right,
in Black History Month and especially in today's environment, when
so much of who we are and what we've done
is there's an effort underway to erase it and deny
it that, you know, and in the name of equality, you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
Know, so that it's fair to everyone.
Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
We're not going to have you, We're not going to
have you around in your accomplishments around because that's not
fair to everybody else. It's it's twisted thinking and twisted logic,
and it's you're right, that is dangerous, that's quite dangerous.
But if we do our part, mister Russell, and do
our job, our jobs, I think we're gonna going to
be okay. I think it's a test and I think
(01:11:55):
we're going to survive it.
Speaker 8 (01:11:58):
A love example. You know, they they talk about the Haitians,
the Haitian people in at well, uh, many people don't
connect the dots again and they look at what's happening
in Haiti, but uh what what happened to Haiti? When
when tucsonthing overture, overthrew slavery in hat and overthrew uh
(01:12:22):
Napoleon bonapart uh in his armies.
Speaker 14 (01:12:26):
Uh.
Speaker 8 (01:12:27):
That was quite an accomplishment, but they were punished sabey
because of uh the major countries in Europe. UH kind
of got at Haiti. And so you know, there's a
lot of history that needs to be brought out, I think,
and it would help people understand what's really going on
(01:12:47):
and hopefully make the right decisions.
Speaker 16 (01:12:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
Indeed, well we we gotta keep we gotta keep pushing.
We got to keep pushing. So yeah, I appreciate that,
mister Russell, and well we'll keep trying. We do, all right,
you two three one seven for eight zero thirteen ten
three one seven for eight zero thirteen ten. Yesterday, in fact,
(01:13:12):
this kind of segues into uh that call that incensed
so many people that you know, you know, just once
in a great while, you just got to check in
and see if the mindset is still there, and it's
still very much alive. So we'll leave it alone. But
yesterday I played a clip from an old Phil Donahue show.
(01:13:34):
And some of you may remember Phil Donahue, some of
you may not. He was the precursor to OPRAH and
the first to go into the audience UH and use
audience participation UH. For his talk shows. You know, the
audience talked back. You know the style that Oprah just
just blew up, I mean, made billions off of. In
(01:13:54):
addition to having a good talk show that she always did,
she had an excellent talk show. Phil Donahue had an
excellent talk show. And uh, but at the time, Donahue
was the king, uh before the others came on the scene,
and he spoke with uh, excuse me, Minister litisphar Khan
about race in America and uh, the Institute in the
(01:14:20):
Minister fair Kind talked about how it was institutionalized in
things of that nature. And we played it yesterday because
Minister fair Cohn gave a really good assessment of history.
Speaker 3 (01:14:33):
Uh, and that history is was important to know. I
do do we still have that?
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
Pardon me, I've gotta let me get some watery Yeah,
I think so. Uh huh, I'm do you still have
that in the folder? But what I was saying was
we didn't get a chance to go into too much
of it because I wanted to find out from you
if you thought we had.
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
And this was thirty five years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
Now, this is a conversation that they had on the
Donahue Show. With Minister fair Cohn thirty five years ago,
and they were talking about race and history and things
of that nature, again segueing into what mister Russell was
talking about and partially what the caller Larry was talking about,
and that we have no history and we're just, I guess,
(01:15:22):
a bunch of hooligans that don't know how to do
anything but tear stuff down.
Speaker 4 (01:15:27):
So did you want to play it again?
Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
I might, I may want to play it again. It's
about nine minutes or so. I want to play it.
But more importantly, I want as I play it, I'm
giving some context here because as I play it, I
want folks to think about from thirty five years ago,
This was in nineteen ninety. Have we progressed, regressed or
remained in the same place that we were thirty five
(01:15:50):
years ago? So have we progressed from where that conversation
was with Minister farakhon thirty five years ago?
Speaker 3 (01:15:56):
Have we regressed?
Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
Have we gotten worse since that conversation, or have we
just pretty much nothing's changed. We're pretty much in the
same place. And I think a lot of you are
going to have a different take on it based on
what you hear and how you hear it. But yeah,
it's interesting because Donna, you really took he took a
chance putting the minister on there because at that time
(01:16:21):
he was under fire for a number of things. And
we won't go into that. And again, what his reviews
and religion and things. That's all apart from what I
wanted you to hear in terms of what he was
saying and in terms of how he is so eloquently
sharing history as history should be shared, at least as
(01:16:42):
history should be known. Let's take a let's take a
listen to it. And then after we hear this, I
want you to think, this was thirty five years ago.
Have we progressed, have we regressed? Or are we still
in the same place that we were thirty five years ago.
Let's take a listen.
Speaker 11 (01:17:00):
Someone who's obviously educated has given up hope completely.
Speaker 3 (01:17:04):
Like when when you call.
Speaker 14 (01:17:06):
Upon us, you say white folks, you say black people,
Jewish people.
Speaker 3 (01:17:08):
Why can't we come together? We obviously can come together.
Speaker 38 (01:17:11):
We just have to.
Speaker 11 (01:17:12):
We just have to find a way to do it.
Speaker 16 (01:17:19):
The desire is good, but the reality is the total
opposite of your desire. And unfortunately, as a young lady,
you are not in the position of power to make
the decisions to make America work. May I you knows,
(01:17:39):
as an audience of intelligent people, I would like to
just take a moment to say to you, and I
really don't think you fully understand what has happened to
these people that you look at as second class or
inferior citizens in this nation. Black people who were brought
(01:18:03):
to this country were stripped of their names, language, culture, religion, God,
and taken totally away from the history of themselves. Here
are thirty million people who don't wear their own names,
(01:18:24):
they wear your names, who don't speak their own language.
They speak English, which is not their language. They never
never were allowed their.
Speaker 3 (01:18:35):
Own cultural expression of Africa.
Speaker 16 (01:18:39):
Don't you realize that when you turn a people upside
down and inside out, then sell them not for a day,
not for a year, but for three hundred years, and
deny us the human right to know, to read a book,
to learn to understand. And then the three hundred years
(01:19:02):
of that you allow us into the church. But by
that time you've painted Jesus white, God white, the angels white,
and then all these black people have been subjected to
a form of white supremacy which produces in the reverse,
a black inferiority. And this is fulfilling what Jesus said.
(01:19:24):
As a man thinketh so is he. And as long
as our people think the way they think, we will
never be able to do what we as a people
should do to correct our condition.
Speaker 38 (01:19:36):
Excuse me, I was brought up in quote Bedford Starvingston
in my time, But I would like to say what
scares us is?
Speaker 3 (01:19:44):
I think we hear violence?
Speaker 16 (01:19:49):
The young lady said she's afraid of violence, And isn't
it sad that we who have been the victims of
so much much violence now white fear violence from us.
Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
We do not have a history of.
Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
Killing white people. White people have a history of killing us.
Speaker 34 (01:20:14):
See, And what you fear, may I say this, sir,
what you fear?
Speaker 16 (01:20:21):
And it's a deep guilt thing that white folks suffer.
You are afraid that if we ever come to power,
we will do to you and your father's what you
and your people have done to us. And I think
you are judging us by the state of your own mind,
(01:20:41):
and that is not necessarily.
Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
The mind of black people.
Speaker 39 (01:20:46):
Okay, I've been listening in this corner right here, and
I've heard a whole lot of negative things from the
white people here. When you're trying to explain yourself, the
white people don't want to hear you explain yourself.
Speaker 8 (01:20:55):
They drown you out.
Speaker 39 (01:20:56):
They start already trying to drown you out and talk
over you. There's a certain amount of white arrogance here,
and they don't want to listen.
Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
To what black people are saying.
Speaker 39 (01:21:03):
They don't understand because they don't want to understand. I've
heard a woman here say go back to Africa. Somebody
said we have a black holiday.
Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
What does that mean? So what he did not say that?
He said, if we have a choice, what some.
Speaker 39 (01:21:14):
Of us can go and someoneus. There's no understanding in here.
People are just trying to go talk to.
Speaker 20 (01:21:20):
Those arrogant persons.
Speaker 16 (01:21:22):
You know, when you tell us go back, Please remember
where you came from and when you want to relegate
somebody to a specific place, just remember.
Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
What your origin is in this world.
Speaker 20 (01:21:41):
Please.
Speaker 16 (01:21:41):
I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but I want you
to understand that you wherever you are on the earth,
you are not a native anywhere. You came there and
took it from the native people who are there. So
please don't talk about going back, because if others talk
to you about that, where would you go.
Speaker 21 (01:22:01):
I agree with you.
Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
Someone said, we don't agree with you.
Speaker 28 (01:22:04):
I agree with you that we live in a racist society.
Just as I'm racist, some of you are being racist.
And the fact that you're calling me a white folk.
Speaker 21 (01:22:12):
I realize that things.
Speaker 28 (01:22:14):
That I have, things say things that I have, things
that I have, I realize most of them I may
have gotten because I'm white, and I am privileged because
I'm white.
Speaker 15 (01:22:24):
But I.
Speaker 28 (01:22:27):
Do feel guilty. There are feelings of guilty from being white,
and I realize that. But you're building walls. We build
walls this high. We're separated right now. The white people
are on this side and the black people are on
that side.
Speaker 23 (01:22:38):
No, I mean, I feel that you are just towards
white people.
Speaker 16 (01:22:43):
It becomes it becomes apparent more and more as we
listen to each other and try to talk to each other,
that we don't perceive reality the same, and as we're
talking of about either reconciling differences or separating, it becomes
(01:23:06):
clear that if two people are looking at the same
thing and perceiving it so differently, then the two people
are operating under a different stimulus. And so when the
young lady says I am prejudiced, to be prejudiced means.
Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
To judge before the fact.
Speaker 16 (01:23:26):
After four hundred years of living and experiencing, we're not prejudice.
We are looking at the reality of what we have
suffered and continue to suffer.
Speaker 14 (01:23:37):
Are you there?
Speaker 5 (01:23:38):
Don't We need to begin with education, begin with rewriting
the textbooks in America to tell the truth about blacks
and whites in America in context.
Speaker 4 (01:23:46):
Yes, yes, please for one second, yes.
Speaker 38 (01:23:49):
That's what I wanted to Minister Farrakhan.
Speaker 2 (01:23:52):
The education system.
Speaker 38 (01:23:55):
Our children right now are being miseducated.
Speaker 21 (01:23:58):
What can we do that we can.
Speaker 38 (01:24:02):
Inform our children, educate our chiln And it's sad because
white folks don't know anything about Black history. And it's
pathetic that white folks have to wait till February to
find out that we were slaves.
Speaker 3 (01:24:16):
I would like us to speak to what are we
going to.
Speaker 38 (01:24:18):
Do to improve the education of this whole society which
have cheated them, the educive from our true heritage.
Speaker 2 (01:24:27):
May I respond?
Speaker 16 (01:24:31):
I said in the first segment it was a crime
of omission as well as a crime of commission, and
that crime has affected.
Speaker 3 (01:24:40):
Both white and black. White folk have been made.
Speaker 16 (01:24:44):
To believe that the history of civilization begins in Egypt,
and that Egypt was a white civilization, and that many
whites have been made to believe that black folk were
just in the jungles of Africa, running around with no
clothes on and never contributed anything to the advancement of civilization.
(01:25:04):
While at the same time there are Masons and shriness.
Some of your parents are shriness and Masons, and they
put on the fares of the Muslim people, and what
they're studying is the true history of the black people
of this earth. I think if the proper education were
(01:25:26):
given to black and white, we could come away with
a healthy respect one for the other. I want to
clear this that I don't think black people disrespect the
tremendous accomplishments.
Speaker 2 (01:25:41):
That white folk have made.
Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
But if white folk.
Speaker 16 (01:25:44):
Do not know what black people have contributed to the
advancement of civilization, it leads to a disrespect of a
whole segment of the population. And this is why today
I will say that black children, as much as we
need education and we don't want to go to these
schools because the food that we are being.
Speaker 2 (01:26:05):
Fed is not proper.
Speaker 16 (01:26:07):
But any one of us can go into the schools
where there's no discipline, where there's madness in the corridors,
and we can.
Speaker 3 (01:26:14):
Stick to our youth and get their attention in a.
Speaker 16 (01:26:17):
Matter of moments, because we are teaching them that which
their souls yearn for. That is a proper knowledge of self.
And if they won't give it to us, we have
the responsibility to give it to ourselves.
Speaker 3 (01:26:35):
And we are back.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
And hopefully if you were listening, you heard to me
one of the most key points of the exchange that
the minister was having with that audience back in nineteen ninety,
and that was that both white and black need to
be educated, and they need to be educated.
Speaker 3 (01:26:53):
In a healthy way, in a true, truthful way.
Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
I mean, I'm not using his exact towards, but that
to me was very profound because as he said before,
he said, I'm not trying to be disrespectful, He's.
Speaker 3 (01:27:07):
Just telling the truth, and the truth is pretty much
the truth?
Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
Then is the truth?
Speaker 7 (01:27:14):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
My question to you is how far where we are
we are we better? Have we progressed beyond that conversation?
Have we regressed? Have we gotten worse?
Speaker 3 (01:27:25):
As a result of that.
Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
Conversation, beyond that conversation or are we pretty much in
the same place as that conversation was In nineteen ninety
on the Phil Dona Hues Show three one seven, four
eight zero thirteen ten three one seven, four eight zero
thirteen ten, Banita, go ahead. How are you.
Speaker 15 (01:27:44):
Hi? How are you doing it?
Speaker 3 (01:27:45):
I'm doing well?
Speaker 2 (01:27:45):
Thank you?
Speaker 8 (01:27:46):
How are you? I'm doing good?
Speaker 15 (01:27:49):
Thank you for this particular topic, you know, and for
me personally and just being behind the same community activists.
I recently had to a few years ago.
Speaker 8 (01:28:04):
I really felt the need to really.
Speaker 15 (01:28:06):
Connect with children, and it's tides into the topic in
terms of how do we reach our kids and the
keyd is I had to learn to get off my
behind and reach out to kids. Tomorrow, myself, my authority
and some authority histors and myself are taking a group
of kids to the National Ground National Underground Railroad Center,
(01:28:30):
many of them had not been there eight nineteen eleven,
twelve years old. To answer your question, and the goal
is to teach them about the history. But also I
need to learn some things. But I have not been
in quite a few years.
Speaker 3 (01:28:43):
There's so much bread history.
Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
I mean, I can all learn something new every day,
and I'm always so fascinated by it.
Speaker 3 (01:28:49):
I wish I knew more.
Speaker 15 (01:28:52):
Me too, And what I had to learn about myself
was I have to be willing to reach back and
pull you young people and help them and teach them
so that way they don't fall into becoming I want
to be upon Larry.
Speaker 13 (01:29:08):
Deliriaes of the world, because what we show them.
Speaker 15 (01:29:11):
It's like, oh, okay, I didn't know that. Sometimes they
just don't know. So to answer your question, I think
we're at all the levels all the questions that you're asking.
We regressed, we have progressed, and we're in the middle somewhere.
It depends on it all depends on that individual.
Speaker 8 (01:29:31):
Yes, you know, because I've spoken to.
Speaker 15 (01:29:33):
Some young people who are just on it. They understand,
some of them don't know, and some are still in
the middle.
Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
So yeah, So your point is, your point is, and
thank you, Benita, thank you appreciate that. Your point is,
it's all three we've we've progressed, we've regressed, and we've
stayed in the same place. Uh. And that is fair,
That is absolutely fair. Let's see, let's go back to
the phone lines. Call her online two go ahead.
Speaker 3 (01:30:04):
I don't know if that's me. I don't know who
you are.
Speaker 2 (01:30:08):
You always callous, so I just say call her a
lie too.
Speaker 40 (01:30:12):
Yeah, okay, go ahead, So thank you for you.
Speaker 3 (01:30:15):
Let me explain.
Speaker 40 (01:30:17):

since nobody did nothing Black people this and they Lady
Areta Franklin sang for the queen. Areta, they flew her.
She sang for the queen, and then all the other people.
(01:30:39):
Wes Montgomery, his name is on the park, Frederick Douglas
and all of those. I don't know where he gets
that information.
Speaker 8 (01:30:46):
You tell him that.
Speaker 40 (01:30:47):
Even me, I go back to the days when doctor
King knew that they were going to take his life
and we knew it too, And you tell him last
but lease, I don't know how many armies he been in,
but my brother was a non be. My uncle did
twenty three years in the army fighting for American. Dad
is supergard Germany. I wonder what soldier is he?
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
God bless you, all right, Thank you appreciate it. You
know that always tickles me when she says I get
I think it's me. I guess it's me, but she
never gives me her name, and she calls in as anonymous.
I don't know what I'm supposed to say.

racism and the need for both black and white to
(01:37:23):
learn more history. And my question was have we progressed
from that point from that conversation? Have we regressed or
have we remained the same? One caller said, it's all three.

that is very pretty. Were you named after Hattie McDaniel?
Speaker 10 (01:38:00):
No, Actually, my grandmother named me. I think it was
old fashioned, but you know, she liked to name Hattie.
Speaker 2 (01:38:09):
Yeah, there was a lady that I grew up when
I was growing up named miss Hattie. Yes, hadn't heard
it since other than the movie, you know, the movie
credits for Hattie McDaniel. But anyway, go ahead your thoughts.
Speaker 10 (01:38:22):
Well, I enjoyed fair con you know. And he's right,
you know, honestly, we have progressed. This generation is not
gonna be and not fearful like it was back in
the day. I think we've progressed a lot. May not
be all the positive reasons that we need, but the
younger people, this generation is not going back to where
(01:38:45):
we came from, and they're not gonna take what the
older people used to take and the way they used
to treat us. You know, they're not taking it anymore. So, yes,
I think if they, if we given the opportunity to
change on our own with our people cutting up down
(01:39:05):
and killing us. Yes, they would be fearful. The white
people would be fearful. Any race would be fearful when
you've mistreated a certain race. So I think we progressed
and fair Connor is right.
Speaker 2 (01:39:18):
Okay, all right, thank you very much, mss Hattie, appreciate it.
Three yeah, three one seven forty zero thirteen ten three
one seven zero thirteen ten. Ricky, go ahead.
Speaker 42 (01:39:26):
How are you, hey, Thirtina?
Speaker 8 (01:39:29):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (01:39:29):
I'm well, I'm well.
Speaker 2 (01:39:30):
Is this Ricky Ricky Clark?
Speaker 3 (01:39:33):
Okay, how are you Ricky?
Speaker 8 (01:39:35):
I am doing well?
Speaker 3 (01:39:36):
Solid Gold all right, solid Gold Clark. Wow, wow, wow kid.
Speaker 42 (01:39:41):
I had to give you a call because I listen
to you when I'm in Atlanta and then also when
I'm in Scenic. So I thought, okay, let me let
me transpace with Tina and get in on some of
this topics. Plus I wanted to let you know about
the other things.
Speaker 33 (01:39:56):
That we are doing.
Speaker 42 (01:39:57):
But basing your topic, I.
Speaker 4 (01:40:00):
Think that.
Speaker 42 (01:40:03):
The Minister mentioned what he mentioned, and I think we're
doing the same thing. I don't know whether we progress,
maybe just a little bit, but then we've got a
lot more being thrown at us thanks to Donald Trump,
and of course the governor in Indiana, Governor.
Speaker 3 (01:40:20):
Governor bron governor Okay, okay, Governor Broun.
Speaker 2 (01:40:25):
Okay, yeah, so yeah, yeah, So what all do you
have going on, Rick, you were saying he had some stuff.
Speaker 42 (01:40:31):
Well, number one, we're we're pushing folks to register to vote,
even though the election is still about about a year
and a half away, at least getting them to register.
But we have a program called Diversity Focus Today that
runs on wi SHTV Channel eight, your old station, and
(01:40:53):
it's also on YouTube and on.
Speaker 13 (01:40:57):
Facebook.
Speaker 3 (01:40:58):
Okay, okay, So we're.
Speaker 42 (01:41:00):
Getting comments and questions from folks all over the country,
from Florida.
Speaker 8 (01:41:04):
From Arizona, wonder from Boston.
Speaker 42 (01:41:07):
So you know, this is a way to get the
word out, of course, and at some point we'd love
to have you on the show, Tina, as a guest, okay,
with your point of view.
Speaker 2 (01:41:18):
We'll let me know. I don't know that point of view, Okay,
I'll have one.
Speaker 20 (01:41:22):
Yeah, I mean in the business for a long time,
just like I.
Speaker 2 (01:41:25):
Have, yeah long so yeah, absolutely, you know I would
like to be able to have you be my pleasure,
would be my pleasure. You just let me know.
Speaker 13 (01:41:34):
Well, I'll let you know.
Speaker 3 (01:41:35):
I'll leave my number, and I think I.
Speaker 2 (01:41:37):
Might have it, Rick, let me see, I may have
it because I was talking to Reverend Jim the other
day and he mentioned your name, okay, and then I
might have it. Yeah, I think I think he. I
think I told him to go ahead and give you.
I got Jeffrey Clark, Mary Clark, Ricky Clark. Hold on,
(01:41:59):
is there a nine and a zero and.
Speaker 3 (01:42:02):
A four in your phone?
Speaker 2 (01:42:05):
Okay? Okay, without giving it away on the air. Okay, Yeah,
I got I've got your number, so you and you
have mine.
Speaker 8 (01:42:12):
I think I do.
Speaker 3 (01:42:13):
Okay, I think I do.
Speaker 42 (01:42:15):
I'm want to I'll call it after this afternoon.
Speaker 2 (01:42:18):
We'll compare those easier than that. Just stay on the
line and Cameron will give it to you. Cameron can
give it to you. Yeah, just don't hang up after
we finished talking, and I'll have Cameron go ahead and
give you mine.
Speaker 8 (01:42:31):
Okay.
Speaker 42 (01:42:31):
Myself, Well, the other think what I'm finding, especially down
in the atl because they're a little bit more advanced.
I think that in Indiana, Yes, and they're doing a
major campaign and we're doing part of it down there too,
to get people to register, and so both black and
brown people and some of our European folks that feel
(01:42:53):
like they've been good week thanks to this thanks to
this administration. I mean I I have met so many
people that work for the government that has lost their
job or that have worked for other companies that because
of what the government has done, you know, they've lost
their job. And so you know, the feeling is right.
(01:43:16):
We can actually make a change instance that everybody get
out there and when it's time to vote, vote, but
make sure you're registered first.
Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
So yeah, we got that across it. Yeah, and here's
the thing, rick the uh, the registration is not the
heavy lift, although it's a very important first step. The
heavy lift is getting registered voters to the poll.
Speaker 20 (01:43:38):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
Somehow we've got to connect the register and vote as
opposed to register to vote, register and vote action word,
you know, call to action, register, register to vote and
vote or register and vote because we you know a
lot of folks fall between it. By the way, Ricky,
since I had your correct number, I just text your mind,
see you not how to stay on the line, but yeah,
(01:44:01):
you should have it. Let me know if you get it.
But anyway, Yeah, so I agree with all of that,
and I think our message has to be uh strong
and to the point and uh inconsistent, and so that
that is our charge. I appreciate that is great what
you're doing. You know what you're doing now there and
getting more people registered. Uh And you know this is
they're trying to make it harder in every state in
(01:44:22):
the United States of America to vote. I don't know why,
but they are, especially among us. I guess I do
know why.
Speaker 3 (01:44:29):
So why why did you have done?
Speaker 42 (01:44:31):
You guys hit it on the head earlier with with
with the the vice patents are coming to Indiana. I
mean they and you, like you said, their nine congressional
seats in Indiana, yep. We only have two Democrats, only
have two yep. So I don't understand what he's trying
to do. And yeah, there's many people of color in
the northern part of the state of Indiana as there
(01:44:53):
is in you he in Indianapolis.
Speaker 9 (01:44:55):
So yep.
Speaker 42 (01:44:56):
I don't know how they're gonna what their game plan is.
Speaker 33 (01:44:59):
We got to watch it.
Speaker 42 (01:45:00):
We cannot let them do what they're trying to do
here in Indiana and in Texas and some of the
other markets.
Speaker 2 (01:45:06):
That Florida is trying to get on board. Now, Yeah,
Florida's trying to get on board. Now, Indiana is just
friendly territory, Ricky. That's all I can say. Because you've
got a state, all you need is two more here
in the state of Indiana. You got a super majority
legislature state and you know, the state and the Senate
I'm sorry, the House and the Senate, House and the
(01:45:27):
Senate here in the state of Indiana, and you've got
a Trump rubber stamp of a governor. So Indiana could
be the easiest place to at least to try to
do it as a you know, friendly territory, friendly soil.
Speaker 3 (01:45:39):
That's why they're here, you know.
Speaker 42 (01:45:42):
But yeah, it's it's on You're right, because Indiana's that
we know that Governor brod At Trumper and your attorney
General of the Trumper and the Secretary of State, all
the whole.
Speaker 20 (01:45:54):
Teat is here.
Speaker 42 (01:45:55):
So yeah, you're right, Yeah, you're absolutely correct.
Speaker 34 (01:45:57):
Indiana is an easy pray.
Speaker 2 (01:46:00):
Yeah, but like you say, some of these voters who
feel like they've been hoodwinked, they may be the difference.
They may be the difference in stopping a lot of
this stuff or at least in the upcoming midterm elections
making a difference there. We just have to wait and see.
Speaker 3 (01:46:15):
But you're right, we do have to stay dilligent and
we have to stay on top of everything. You're right, yeap,
all right?
Speaker 2 (01:46:22):
Did you get my number?
Speaker 42 (01:46:25):
You know, old Saint Tinis.
Speaker 8 (01:46:26):
I got to look and see.
Speaker 42 (01:46:27):
I think I'm sure I did what you sent it.
Speaker 13 (01:46:29):
I did.
Speaker 3 (01:46:30):
I texted to you. That's all right, that's okay.
Speaker 8 (01:46:33):
Tell everybody you know. I can only do one petigue
of the time with Timmy.
Speaker 42 (01:46:37):
I got to figure how to switch this over so
I can see if I got it.
Speaker 13 (01:46:40):
But I'm sure I did.
Speaker 2 (01:46:42):
Okay, Well, we'll talk. Yeah, you can call back and
we'll talk sooner. I can call you if I don't
hear from you within a reasonable amount of time. I
got your number, so all right, all right, thanks Ricky?
Speaker 42 (01:46:52):
All right, thank Check out the program if you can.
Speaker 13 (01:46:54):
It's on YouTube and you can watch it anytime.
Speaker 42 (01:46:57):
It comes on late night on Channel Wait at two am.
Speaker 2 (01:46:59):
But a lot of folks just watch it on YouTube
and it's called Diversity.
Speaker 42 (01:47:04):
Diversity Focus Today, Diversity Clark on YouTube and then Diversity Yeah,
Diversity Focus Today on which TV channel eight and anything
on Facebook.
Speaker 2 (01:47:16):
Okay, I got it, Ricky, thank you, thank you very much.
All right, take care, thank you, uh huh, thank you?
Three one seven for zero thirteen ten. Let's go to Kennet's.
Go ahead.
Speaker 14 (01:47:28):
How are you.
Speaker 11 (01:47:30):
Good?
Speaker 14 (01:47:31):
Afternoon?
Speaker 36 (01:47:31):
I just want to make a comment about today and
tomorrow Bishop Willie Jay Duncan's funeral services today and tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:47:41):
Okay, where we're wanted.
Speaker 36 (01:47:44):
It's going to be at the Christ Tymple Apostolic Church
on four thirty West Parkway.
Speaker 3 (01:47:50):
Okay, okay, all right, and what time?
Speaker 2 (01:47:53):
What time?
Speaker 36 (01:47:54):
So today they haven't the family our from five to
seven pm and then they having the celebration of life
from seven.
Speaker 4 (01:48:00):
To nine pm today.
Speaker 36 (01:48:02):
But tomorrow they have an official homegoing service at Christ
Simple the viewing from nine am to ten am, and
then the actual service will be from ten am to
two pm tomorrow at Christ Timple Apostallic.
Speaker 2 (01:48:19):
That's going to be a long service, ten to two yeah, correct, correct?
Oh my, okay, Well, I'm glad you called and let
us know. Thank you, Thank you so much. What a
wonderful man. He did do quite a bit here in
our community, and we certainly appreciate him. Thank you, Kenneth,
appreciate it. Pierre, go ahead, how are you?
Speaker 13 (01:48:38):
Oh, good afternoon, Tina and Cameron, good afternoon. My thoughts
are we progressed, But then on the other hand, we're regressing.
Speaker 2 (01:48:50):
Okay.
Speaker 13 (01:48:52):
Most start with the young folks, and I'm talking about
young black folks, even young white folk. You know, it
just hasn't. I don't think it's really affected them yet.
You know, most young people, in my opinions, they get up,
(01:49:12):
they don't have pretty much politics on their mind or whatever.
They they go to jobs, They go to their work.
They know they can do whatever they want to do.
They can pursue college education right now, they can pursue
a job or whatever. It's really not it's really not
(01:49:32):
affecting them. But it's this government is slowly shutting down
and like, for example, in my personal experience, I got
claims before the National Labor Relations Board that agency is
just not working. You know, You've got the EEOC not working,
(01:49:55):
the things like the Justice Department's checked out now.
Speaker 10 (01:49:59):
And so.
Speaker 13 (01:50:01):
That's what the Republicans are moving for a total.
Speaker 3 (01:50:04):
Power grad Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Absolutely, why That's why JD.
Speaker 13 (01:50:08):
Vance was here yesterday. They probably can't get rid of
Andre Carson, but they could probably get do something to
that to our congressional district up door.
Speaker 3 (01:50:20):
Yeah, that's what they were saying, Northwest Indiana.
Speaker 13 (01:50:22):
Yeah, and they're moving for a total power grad Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:50:28):
Donald Trump is always hitten, always has also he's always
wanted it. But he's also made it clear that if
they don't clean up the crime in the streets of Washington,
d C. That he was going to want to take
over that city as well. He said the government will
do a better job. So he wants to take over Washington,
d C. You know, so, and bron wants to take
over Indianapolis. So you know they're all one and the same.
Speaker 13 (01:50:50):
Well yeah, so, so our charge is to it should
be in the DNA of every black person in this country,
uh to vote.
Speaker 8 (01:51:03):
But it's not.
Speaker 13 (01:51:05):
And we were at a point in the Systey where
we're getting to that point, but it's just not.
Speaker 3 (01:51:12):
It's gonna have to well we gotta we got to
get there then, But the.
Speaker 13 (01:51:17):
Only way we can get there, I mean, something drastic
is really going to have to It's going to have
to take to where young folks can't go out and
get jobs and can't pursue their dreams and can't you know.
But we've got a great we've got a great social
media out there right now that keeps people informed or
(01:51:38):
at least you got folks preaching on TikTok. Yeah, yeah, Instagram.
Speaker 3 (01:51:45):
You have to have discernment with a lot of that too,
because not all of it is on the up and up.
Speaker 13 (01:51:50):
Yeah, not always on the up and up, but there's
I'm gonna tell you, there's a lot more information out
there than when I graduated from high school because I
really didn't experience racial discrimination until I started working in
the city of Indianapolis. Once I got out there in
the workforce, then I found out real fast. But when
(01:52:11):
high school and and then that desegregated school system didn't
have a problem for the most part. But that's where
we're at, and we got to figure out, like I said,
our celebrities and stuff. We got people that have big platforms,
they're just not serving the black community. Well right now,
(01:52:31):
they're not. It's all about them their uh, their position,
what they're doing and uh getting their bag, and you know,
that's that's just where we're at. So we've we've made progress,
but in some cases we're going back.
Speaker 3 (01:52:51):
Yeah, all right, Pierre, appreciate your call.
Speaker 2 (01:52:54):
I appreciate your perspective very quickly, Uh, Cameron, let's give
away these uh these State Fair tickets, Family four pack.

can you get in before we have to take off,

Speaker 3 (01:53:11):

well maybe we'll have time to announce the caller on air.
