Just hope you're comfortable and ready to talk some cricket always, mate.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
It's actually crazy we've got cricket in Australia this time
of year, August. In August, we've got That's why they
send them up north, up the top end at Cans
and Darwin. Those matches are against South Africa, which is
a bit of an interesting one. And Marcus isn't here,
but he does do content across odds dot com dot you.

(00:45):
team chat, We've got.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Some cricket news. The quick Single is Macalo's favorite segment.
You love that quick singe. I probably need to revam. No,
I don't reckon it does.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
It's a great segment and all of our predictions for
the T twenty International series, plus the first match between
Australia and South Africa in Darwin at TiO Stadium, which
is the first T twenty International game there.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
That's pretty awesome. It'll be pretty good. I reckon, we
should get we should get up there. Pay for it.
Come on before we start.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Make sure you get right around the show on Spotify,
Apple podcasts, subscribe to the YouTube channel like AFL.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
We're trying to get a million subscribers, isn't it. Yeah,
a bit of the way away.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Road to five k over the next couple of months.
I would say that's our next goal. And get around

My favorite segment. Just some news from around the world.
I want to touch on these ones, Leo.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Lots of talk about the Ashes already.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
We actually gave our early Ashes eleven the last show
we did too.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
If you want to check that out, jump on the show.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
There but multiple former Test stars are picking Bowland over
Nathan Line for the Ossie Ashes eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
What do your thoughts and that's four quicks. I think
you've got to pick a her Line.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
It will probably be expensive, but I think what he
can do on the Aussie surface distract, extract a bit
of bounds.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
We'll worry the English bats.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
And I still think he's good for a couple of wickets,
which is all you need.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
I love a bit of Boland, but Nathan Lyne in
Australia it's a different gravy. It's between Boland and Hazerwood
for that last Okay, yeah, good call England versus India.
This is one of the craziest Test series of all time.
It just wrapped up to all. I believe it came
right down to the wire in the last Test matches. Well,
plenty of handshake controversy. I don't know if you want
to shake hands.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
We just want to wrap it up. No, thank you going.
Marcus is in here.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yes, yes, we've got saras. He was pretty solid. Sarah
with the pretty solid.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
It was awesome. This series needs a documentary into it.
We actually might on Amazon. They do a few cricket.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
We as in Cricket Today is going to lead it
the documentary. We will fund it now. It was a
fantastic series. It honestly deserved to all draw in the end.
I think both sides had their moments and had their
sort of capitulations or just lack of quality cricket at
different points.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
But what a series. It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Yeah, our Wokes Wolves came out with one arm. That's
I was trying to get my words out there because
it was just crazy. He came out with one arms
a bat apparently the night before because he had his
shoulder injury. He was practicing with one arm.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
That's a cricket and not anything else with one arm.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
But pretty crazy into that's having about with one of
the Yes, yeah, that's what I was.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Marcus isn't here and he's in my head already.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Anyway, we'll touch on that another another podcast as well.
This is a three match T twenty series that I
want to touch on Australia vers South Africa. There's two
matches in Darwin or one in Cans and we're just
very excited here. Yeah, let's get in there, let's get
into it, all right, it's the Australia vers South Africa
T twenty squad.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Chat Lee, I want you to start with the Aussies please,
you want me to start with the Aussies?
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (03:31):
What about the team or who were dropping? Potentially? I
kind of lost thors Why don't we have both? Mate? Well,
here's here's the team I would go with.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Josh Englis, Cam Green, Glenn Maxwell,
Mitch Owen, Tim David, Benny Dorsh's, Nathan Alice, Adam Zampa
and Joshy Hazelwood. That batting lineup is talking to me.
It's doing some things and I'm loving it.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
That is a lot of hurricanes in there. Make that
burning line. It was so good.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
So obviously Travis Head's back, which you said you almost
forgot about.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Forget about that's very rude to the great man and
is very rude.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
And you've got Mitchell and he just made his debut
a couple of weeks ago against the West Indies.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
He's just making it for me, the fun. He's the
perfect six sick and bowl a bit as well. Yeah,
love it, love it.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
And then you've also got no comments and stark but
you don't eat t twenties and then Jake, Fraser McGirk,
Aaron Hardy and Cooper Connolly all drops since the West
Indies series, which I don't mind, especially Fraser mcgirky's really
out of four.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah, I think those calls are fair.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
They're all probably coming into their cricketing careers, so I'd
like for them.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
To be dropped. I don't think he's a bad thing.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Yeah, And the other one was I was always questioning
Cam Green in the Test lineup, but he was. He's
been great at just knuckling down making some fifties against
the West Indies in that fourth position or about four
four usually about four and I loved that.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yeah, him and English together, just building a nice little
three and four partnership there.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
So loving it.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yes, all right, I'm going to get into the South
African team. You've got markro and roberta are back in
for South Africa, which are huge ins, but they've left.
I'm not sure if they've dropped them or resting. I'm
pretty sure they're just resting some players. You've got no Jansen, Classen, Nokia, Miller,
Maharaj and Shamsi.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Who I believe would all be in their usual line
they would be. So this is a very underdone South
African team in my opinion it is, but I understand
what they're doing.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
I think that they've got a lot of T twenty
cricket coming up, sixteen matches before the team matches, so
I think they want to just trial out a few
different guys to just see whether or not they could
potentially play a part in that T twenty World Cup
that's coming up.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
So look, I think it's a fair move from South Africa.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
I think they can still be a competitive team which
will get to but I don't think it'll win.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
No, like that one guy I'm very excited for in
South Africa. Just pick him, please, just pick him.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
We've talked up Shama Joseph the last couple of years
is scaring Australia a little bit and just being a
really awesome player to watch. Mapuka the new I'm pretty
sure that's how you saypucker nineteen year old from South Africa.
He can bowl up to one fifty clicks lee, How
would you go against that one?
Speaker 2 (06:02):
My pucker is no chucker. No, No, he might be.
If he's getting one fifty two clicks, that's that's that's
a big call.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
No, But he played in the IBL debut, had a
T twenty international debut and that second match that he
played in T twenty Internationals got up to one fifty two.
And I think a fast bowler in Australia on those
Darwin pitchers that we know and love.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yeah, too much about the old Darwin pitch up there,
apparently maybe a lot of moisture on it.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
The moisture, it will be a bit humid up there,
so it might swing a bit.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
I believe, But it has been good for batting conditions
across the Australia A matches and some big Bash matches
as well, which I just had a bit of research there.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
But I hope they pick him.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
But looking at the overall squads at Africa, are we
a little bit worried about the death You've still got
Ingiede and Roberta obviously world class bowlers, but I'm a
bit worried about their bowling more specifically.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yeah, Yeah, it's gonna a lot's going to fall to
Ingide and Roberta. As you said, the bowling depth. I mean,
they've got bowlers that have been in and around the scene,
you know, Corbyn Bash Linda or Linda. I don't know
how to say. Rick He's a battle but these guys, yeah,
they've been in and around, but I don't know if
they can I guess play an economical role when Robata
(07:09):
and Ingie can look to take the wickets.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
So yeah, that good call. I think their batting will
still be exciting.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Got Rickerson in the top order, Mark rom Back, I
think that will still be right. Stubbs is a very
solid player as well, but it's be interesting how they
go with the bolls.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Like I see more from Stubbs. He's coming through. Pretorious
as well, is a fresh one on the scene.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
And Duel Brevis, who's had huge wraps on him for
the last five years.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, kind of he's done.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
He's done well, but he's kind of not lived up
to his height fully. So I do want to see
him have a crack at this and see how he goes.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
No like that, All right, let's get into the big
questions in this one, and this is a according to
the teams and the things like that, should Jake Fraser
McGirt continue to be tested for Australia or it just
needs to be better because a lot of people want
to see him play for Australia.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
But personally, can I say a form Can I say
yes to both of those? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Okay, I think Look, he shouldn't been anywhere near the
setup right now, and I think I would hope Fraser
mcgirky is the first put his hand up and say that.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I think he needs a good long stint. I'm talking
it's a long.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Hard look at him two three years domestic level at
the state leveling in on his honing in on.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
His craft before he's back up there.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
I think he's got the talent, but I don't think
he has the smartness or the IQ or the I
guess game sense yep, to really like take that next level.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I agree with that one.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Is Hazelwood worth playing in this forma and I'm going
to touch on him later in terms of the predictions,
but he's an older player. It's a bit of a
meaningless series. Do we need to play the hoff or
is this just getting him back into it again?
Speaker 3 (08:47):
I think he can play one or two games. Yeah,
I do like him in t twenties. If you look
at the bowling and the sort of lineup I suggested
when you've got Dorsiest there who's left arm, and you've
got Alice who he's a small blow. His release point
considering Hazel Woods is very different, so you get a
very good variety there. Hazel's got a great YAWCA two,
(09:08):
so I think I think it's worth playing him as well.
You want to get him a bit match fit too,
but you don't want to overwork him.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I think four overs.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
If he's breaking down after four overs, Scotty Bowlin's coming
straight into that testing, that.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Is a very good call at the release point, the
nuggets and knowledge. Just looking at the bloke's heighth and
go on, he's got a small release, I just wouldn't
think of that. That's a very good call.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Last big question I want to ask, is it disrespectful
that South Africa aren't bringing a.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Full streets respect That might big question mate, No it's not.
It's they but they've still got the talent. They've still
got they just don't have the depth. Okay, that's how
I see. They've got some great talented players in there,
they just probably don't have the experience all the way through.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
So I don't think it's disrespectful.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
I think they're doing the right thing because they have
so many matches you said sixteen before T twenty World Cup.
Where they can next year is they could probably rest
mark them and bring back class and rest I don't
know another like bring in Chamsey, rests from Gide, things
like that.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
So they've got that option to do it, so do it.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
If they do win a match here in this series,
in this three match series, then it shows their depth
because they can just rotate and they'd be pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
For South Africa.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Lastly, let's get into the predictions of this series and
then we're going to say who's going to win the
first T twenty International in Darwin. The Aussies have actually
won the last five T twenty meetings in international stages.
The batting friendly deck I said that before is usually
in Darwin and it's the first ever T twenty International
there since the T twenty World Cup last year. Australia
are the best batting team in the power Play with
(10:34):
a strike rate of one hundred and eighty five.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
So Africa are tenth with.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
One hundred and twenty two, which surprised me because some
of their top order players have been really good even
in the IPL and things like that, but not performing
as much for their country, which is.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
That is actually an interesting thing.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Maybe it goes into the fact that de Cox sort
of faded out, who's a very explosive player at the
top of the order yep to trying to replace him.
They've still got quality guys in that sort of top order,
but maybe they're more like say the strike rate for
the later Yeah, most likely, all right series. This is
the overall series of the three match series. Give me
your best batter for the series.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Leadter Josh Inglis of mine batting at three.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
I really liked what I saw from him against the
West Indies. He's a three to sixty degree player, but
he also can go up in gears. Batting at three
can start slowly if we're in trouble, build himself up,
but he can also just come in and whack it
like he can come in from ball one, hit eighty
or thirty and you'll be like you sure. But he
can also come in and play an anchoring role. His flexibility.
(11:29):
So I'm going English, how about you, mate.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
I'm gonna go Mitch Marsh.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
He averages forty five runs against South Africa across his
eleven to twenty internationals Against.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Him, He's got a couple of fifties.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
I really wanted to go Mitch Owen, but he might
not get a bat in all the matches because he's
going to come in at what six or seven?
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Yeah, most likely, it's very unlikely for playdown the order.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Yeah, but I think he could have a really big series,
maybe like the most runs. I'm gonna go Mitch marsh
the Bison, I reckon.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Bowler, bowler. I love this guy.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
I mentioned him before Nathan Analys the whaling arms, the
whaling Arms of Nathan Analysis. I really like what he
brings to the table. I think he's a T twenty specialist,
especially at the death overs. He's got all the slower balls,
He's got the Yorker, and I think he's surprisingly quick
for his size. He can skid him through surprise the
batsman as well. And I think he's one that we
(12:17):
really got a back. And I'd love to see him
in the T twenty World Cup.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
He has been in and out of the sides and
even the World Cups there he was always the running
the drinks and things like that.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
He got Stark, he got Hazel. We always back in.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
But I wouldn't mind a bit of T twenty variants
in Nathan Ellen, I like that.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
I'm not going to our variance. I'm going Josh hazel
when he's gonna.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Arrest him.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
I reckon he could get in the two matches, he
could get ten wickets and he will take.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Yeah, I reckon he's that good.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Also, I don't mind the human conditions for him to
get a bit of extra swing that night and things
like that. So I'm very excited to watch Josh Hazwood
and I'm glad they picked him because without him in
that side, I'm not sure who else is going to
get as many wickets outside of Nathanos. You did steal
my man. I was happy to go nathan Us, but
I will go Hazelwood.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
We've all gone Assie so far to OSI think he's
going to be a bit of a whitewash. Three zero.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
I think that leads into our Yeah, so what's first match?
I'll give me your first match and then series predictions.
I think Ozzie's and just OSSI's all the way through.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Sorry to our South African viewers, I just as we've
touched on. I just think the experience in that sort
of depth is going to let South Africa down. I
think some games could definitely because and in T twenty
like this, anything happen, like it takes one performance to
change at all, Like we could say all this stuff,
markm comes out, he's one hundred or forty because he's
a quality batch, true, and then all of a sudden
it's a completely different game. So T twenty, the shorter
(13:34):
of the game is the more variance for these wild results.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
That good call. I agree with you on that. One
three zero to Australia.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Gonna tip the Aussies in the first match as well,
and they're a bit of a whitewash, I reckon.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
The depth isn't there for South Africa.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
We've had some good series against South Africa, but yeah,
not in this way.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
What revenge after the Champion Test Championship. Yes, because winning
three meaningless twenty is better than nothing, says revenge like that?
Speaker 1 (13:56):
It very good call, all right. That stumps for the
Cricket Today Show. We'll catch you in the next couple
of weeks for some more cricket and a series wrap up.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
I reckon, we'll preview the ODII series.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Series will be I reckon maybe a week, week and
a half away. Perfect get right around the show and
make sure you subscribe. We want to keep building those subscribers.
Send it any questions or comments. We love the comments,
and as the summer goes along, we will go through
the comments on the show, which we absolutely love. Thank
you very much to Brodie behind the camera. Thank you
Lea for turning up today.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Always a pleasure. Love turning up.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
And we'll see Marcus on the next show. That's another
episode of Cricket Today's Right
