Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome back to the Cricket Today Show for all of
your IPL twenty twenty five needs. I'm your host Liam McCallon,
also know as the stats Guy. Got a little new setup.
We've got a floating bat. I'm absolutely loving this from
Joel behind the camera. But no Marcus today, No marcosa.
We do have rcb's number one fan, Lea Malalley. He
are you going, Lereah?

Speaker 2 (00:20):
I am here and I'm excited RCB have made another
IPL playoffs.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Yeah they never won at all, but they always make
seem to make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Yeah they never win it, but I've got a good feeling.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
You got a good feeling? No, no, there we go.
We'll chat about that is IPL playoff time, which is
very exciting. And of course for more cricket content and
across all sports, checkout odds dot com dot are you
Marcus who's usually on the show. He does a lot
of articles in there. I do as well. You can
check out AFL cricket, NBA coming up, a bit of
tennis racing. So much content on odds dot com if
you want to check out some articles there. Awesome show.

(00:53):
We're going to go through an IPL playoff breakdown. So
the four teams are locked in for the playoffs, which
is absolutely awesome. You're blove at RCBH. My Sunrises cooked
it this year. They had one of the best lists,
one of the best squads, but no good at all.
We've got the top four. We're going to go through
Assie watch. So there's a few Aussies still in the
playoffs even after the things that are happening over in India.
Hand full of Yes, we've got left which is still good.

(01:14):
And then we've got the final predictions. We're going to
give the player of the MVP of the playoffs as
well as who's going to make the final, who's going
to win the final.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
So they should also let us know in the comments
who they think is going to win.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yes, So anytime you watch this throughout this whole video,
just let us know in the comments. Any of your
vibes on this, What do you think? How much IPR
knowledge we have? Because we hate send some hate, we
can take it anything. Before we start, make sure you
get right around the show Spotify, Apple Podcast, subscribe to
the YouTube channel. I had to look before three point
nine four thousand subscribers.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Can we get to four k?

Speaker 1 (01:44):
I got it before the end of the IPL, I
reckon we could, so we hit the subscribe button, goes
a long way, hit the ball as well. We love
that and get around all the socials. That's cricket today,
AU across everything. All right, I think that's done. We're
introed in. Let's get into the IPL playoff breakdown. Leo,
here we go. So we're going to go who's currently
one to four with RCB, who are the only team

(02:05):
left for to play a game? So this is just
the current on the Tuesday. So punjaub Kings are first
at nine and four. This is the first time they've
made the playoffs since twenty fourteen.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
That's pretty crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
That's what eleven years ago. Yes, I was thirteen. That's crazy.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
But every time he's you know what I mean, like
thirty yeah, yeah, I don't know, oh yeah, fifty maybe
back then, I don't know. But twenty four it's actually crazy.
They've they've never really had success. I've never won the
whole team the title. And it's a great turnaround from
last season. They were ninth last season. I think not
many people backed them to make the make the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
No, they didn't and Ricky Ponting's doing a great job.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yes, I always forget the punters there. He's doing awesome
because he was he was heavily criticized last season at
Deli and then he's bounced back and he's first on
the ladder.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
On the lad Yeah, where did they finish last season?

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Ninth?

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Punjab? Punjab?

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah, night, So they've have gone eighth, ninth and currently first,
and they've locked in top two. I think, oh, sorry,
top three, which is crazy.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
I think they've locked in top two. Actually, yeah, it's
crazy how things can change. You talk about sunrises. Could
Kata last year is so good? This year not so good.
And Punjab have taken their place. It's been through Shreya Saiah.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Yes, mate, Treas has he been going? Has he gone there?

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Has he been going? He's been going. I think his
welfare has gone pretty good.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Yeah. Just about his cricket five hundred and fourteen runs,
average of fifty one, high score of ninety seven, just
quietly been leading the way for this Punjab side. I
also want to give a shout out to prub sim
Run Singh four hundred and ninety nine unds.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
He's been solid at the top of the order for him.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
So they've just got some really good role players with
the bat doing their bit, and then there is a
player with the.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Ball who's been a particular standout for them.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
He's been awesome. I'm going to spoil it. I'm going
to talk about him later for some MVP stuff. But
Arsteep sing with eight wickets this season, He's got great
change up the left armory. He's just got so many
wickets every single game, and it's a good balance. I
think in the IPL a lot of the times we've
talked about this, the batters lead the way and then
you can you can make the playoffs just from having

(04:13):
strong batters, yep. But if you can produce wickets, especially
later in the season in the playoffs, I think arstep
Singh is going to go a long way for them
having some success in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Gill one hundred percent ago agree.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Yeah, there we go. So they're probably going to finish
so top two and they will be charging to.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
The play for a double team.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
There we go, So next one, good, you're right, their
second nine and five. Got a little stat for you here,
hit me with it. Before that last game they played
their top three scored seventy seven percent of their runs
this season. So that's Sudharsen, your Man, the shuld Man,
the Gill, the Gil, the Gill, the shild Man, Shuldman,
Gil and Joss Butler combined for seventy seven percent of

(04:51):
their runs this season.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Yeah, it's pretty handy when you've got that, Like we
talk about it being a strong sort of batter's game
at times, and when you've got three batsmen who have scored,
you know, over five hundred and thirty runs, two of
them are like six forty pass Yeah, you're not going
to miss playoffs with that.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
I don't think I've scored that many runs in my
whole career and they're scoring in fourteen games in the IBL.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Yeah, it's nuts and the form because that's their top
three as well. Yeah, so it's like we're going to
give all our guns straight away and good luck get
and throw them because it's impenetrable.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
I'll pose a question to you. So you're big on
good right, you have been the whole way through. There
was a few articles I read that are a little
bit worried about the rest of their world. So yeah,
they haven't come in part. I think only two or
three games where their middle orders come in before the
twelfth over, and is that a bad preparation, Like they've
hardly batted some of their players, So is that bad
prepresasion for the playoffs they'll be all right.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
No, it's definitely a point if they're not like completely,
like if they've been accustomed to every sort of match condition,
because say, if they do come up in a big final,
you know, against say arsh Deeep Singh or Josh Hazel,
who we're going to talk about quality opening bowl as
they get a couple of early wickets, then the middle
order and the lower order will be tested and that's
when it will have to stand up. But that top

(06:05):
order has been so strong with the bat and with
the ball.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
The no slatches either.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Krishna twenty three wickets, he's been one of the best bowlers.
Second in the wicket taking, I think behind nor armored.
So when you've got players who were competing for both
the orange cap and the purple cap, yeah, like you're
gonna go deep into the Oh.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Absolutely, what are you more found of the orange cable
of the purple just in terms of the.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Looks like it's in the kit I think for this one.
The purple cap would suit sort of the darker blue.
It's just a bit of like, yeah, okay, color difference.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I reckon what you're wearing right now.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Purple cover be right, yeah, pretty light blue.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Yeah, I don't think orange.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Yeah, orange, I don't think orange goes with a lot
of things.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
No, the f one, McLaren, it's it's all right, but
I don't know about orange with a lot of things. Yeah,
but that's the good, right, Titans, you're really big on them,
which we can touch on later. Now I'm going to
give you a timer on this one because you love
your RCB.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
There's a lot of fans in twenty minutes.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
I don't know what it is, but it will be
a couple of minutes. But RCB third, they're eight and four,
still one game left, so they can charge them to
the top two. Now, this makes it six straight years
they've had seven plus wins yep, so consistent, and five
the last six years they've actually made the playoffs. So
you'd be happy with that as it.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Just as we said, they've never won it, so to
make that next step. I think this season they've been
a lot more convincing than the last season because I
think last season was a late charge into the playoffs.
This season has been more set in stone. We do
have to also, you did touch on it. But the
game against Lucknow tonight is a huge, huge game because
if they win, it locks in a second chance.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
So if they lose to luck Now, they need to
be playing they do.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
Yes, as you would say, that was wrong, So.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
You give me crap for saying that, didn't you go
on and say it. There's a double standard here. But
they could find themselves, you know, playing a very dangerous
Mumbai team instead of a you know, a double chance.
So this is a this is a crucial game for
them tonight.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
With the bat, it's the guy so we're at who who?

Speaker 1 (08:04):
No, we're at.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
He's awesome, five hundred and forty eight runs. He's been
their best batsman this season. They've had players sort of
chip in with important performances with Phil Salt, Patata and
Patka as well. Yep, so they've got they sort of
step up when required, but there probably hasn't been that
real complete performance with the bat, I would say for RCB.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
And then with the balls, it's the man hazer Wood,
so he comes back from a shoulder injuries.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
That right, Yes, he's back from a shoulder injury. He's
in the camp and apparently training. He's not confirmed one
hundred percent to play, but the rumor is that they
really want him back for the player.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Okay, because he'd be huge because he's taken eighteen wickets
in ten matches. Oh, he's a beast, so he's going
to be He's been spearheading their attack. You know, you've
got Poovi Kumar who's very good with the new ball,
but can be expensive. Suyas Shama is a good leg spinner,
but again can be expensive. So they really need that
Hazelwood at the top to really when you need an

(09:03):
over of quality, you go to him. So without him,
they're just a little bit scarce for options.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
He's so good, Like you don't think of Josh Hazwood
as that like dominant short format player, but then you
look at his stats, like because everyone thinks so you're
compared to Glenn McGrath, I think that obviously really both
really good in tests, hit the spot and just have
a whole day of cricket. He's dominated so many times
in the IPL. He's got the leading wicket taker once
or twice he's won like finals and things like that.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
So you know he's got great Yorca and great slower
walls which I think go under the radar for Joshi.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Absolutely, all right, that's enough RCV. Do you think they
can go all the way? There's a van we'll get
to that. Let us know in the comment there's always
a lot of r CV fans out there, so let
us know more. My Indians are fourth. They beat Dali
last week to lock in their spot in the top
four of the playoffs. They went eight and six this season.
It was one man that haunts Australians. I can't I

(09:56):
love watching him because his arm is just starting in
their balls perplect Gock seventeen wickets in ten ten matches.
It was awesome. But he still haunts me. Like if
I think of Indian cricket, I just think of bowl
and bounces at me. It's scary, but you yeah at me.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
When I played for a road to get that guy
in the Australian set, I'm not going.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
To say road to like me having a nets camera,
but I would not turn.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Up for them who just hit up make a wish
we could fake a.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
There we go.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Has been great Trent Bolt, who I believed Marcus and
stats guy were like, no, Leo, Trent Bolt is washed.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
He's a stupid New Zealander.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
And I said, New Zealand is a lovely They are
lovely And I said, no, mate, He's still got this
the old the old dog, the old ki We nineteen wickets.
He's been their leading wicket taker and an absolute star
this season. What I will say is though they might
just need a little bit more help. There's spinners Mumbai
because their leading wicket takers are all quicks. Satner has

(11:04):
nine wickets from eleven games. So if he's going to
play in the playoffs and he's getting a couple of weeks,
just lift a little bit because on Indian conditions we
know what spin can do.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
But the sorry, the spinners haven't dominated like this season
that it committeds to other.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
But you're right it is. It is typically paced.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Maybe that just has something to do with batsman understanding
what they have to do against spin.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
But you're right they need to. They definitely need to
step up. But Mumba they've charged home, so they started
pretty poorly. Daly looked like that. I think they Dally
won their first three or four games and then yeah,
they lost it from there. Then they lost it from there,
and then one might have been the one to take
their spot and have been awesome. I think, like you said,
this is a like fourth, there is a team that
could win it from fourth. They're just rolling, They're gone.

(11:48):
It is anyone's game. But when you get a bit
of a roll in the IPR as RCB showed last
year charging into the playoffs, I know they didn't win
it all, but they did make a good run. You
can make it can be very dangerous. So their balls
going really well, as you said, yeah, the spinners need
to step up and what we've got row hit needs
to fire.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Yeah row here. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
So with the bats YadA six hundred and forty runs
average of seventy one not bad.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
That is so good.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
He's been, like Colie is for UCB, the main man, right.
I believe Ryan Rickleton is leaving Ricky Ricky Rickleton. See
the hang on what's going on here? I'm the one
that meant to bring the creams and yeah, you're doing
all this funky stuff, but I'm not going to judge
you for it.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
It's a bit freaky, Lulu mate. Yeah, slay, get out.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
I know he wants me to get out.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Let us know in the comments if you like the
words slay.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
But yeah, Row, it's three hundred and twenty nine runs
average of twenty seven, so.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
It's not horrible. It needs to be better.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Yeah, but I just think with Rickleton leaving from all reports,
I think Jax is also leaving.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
You got obviously Yadav we've mentioned being great. Just maybe
Sharma as.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Well as well.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Have a nasal thing behind that of.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Course, mate, But that's sort of where it lies for
me with with Mumbai, Okay, I think that's a good
breakdown because yeah, they bads need to step up and
their bowlers obviously gone really well.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
All right, Ossie watch before we get into the final prediction,
so make sure you keep watching because we're gonna have
who we think is gonna win at all. But we'll
have a little Assie watch as Ossie's we love looking
at this. We'll start up with Punjab. You've obviously got
Josh English man of the match last game.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Later yeah it's seventy three or forty two, got the
home that was last night batting at three, So he's
a real anchor point for him for Punjab.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
So hopefully he can play a big part in the finals.
His careers taken leave some bounds in just like a
year and a half, obviously playing Australia dominating IPR.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
It shows that you can also make the Aussie team
someone so small as English.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Yeah, yeah, you're a back half, his high half, his
hot I.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Don't know half. He's like, yeah, i'd actually know how
all is. But I can. I can't hit bombs like
he can.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yeah he can.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
I probably get like.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
You are the size of Marcus Steyness's arms.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah. Yeah, you've got a big puppy, A big, big puppy.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
I'm average puppy, average sized puppy. He's got a lower
order roll, yes, big puppy.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
So two games ago, forty four not out of sixteen,
So you know, he's still got it with the bat.
And I think it's an important role because a lot
of the lot of what we've talked about with the
teams has been the top order bats because that's where
the runs come from the highest run scorers.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
So, but he's not a job.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
If a team can get early wickets, the lower order
batsmen are going to be incredibly vital.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Stayness is one of those, so be interesting.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
Can he stand up?

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Can he stand up? He has in finals and things
like that for Australia, so hopefully he can for the.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Different stage for the King's Biggest stage.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Ipe biggest stage, that's not it's more people at the game.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
That you get paid a lot more. True, but that's
not a big stage. I CBS the other one. There's
some ossies there. So we obviously just talked about Hazelard
also that he's coming back from injury. Hopefully he plays
because he's been dominating with the ball. The other one,
Tim David, he's injured and he's gone back home. Yeah,
he's actually had a pretty good season.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yeah, it's a it's a big loss for for my
beloved arc. Yes, strike grade of eighty five, one eighty five.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
One eighty five.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Did you say eighty thing?

Speaker 2 (15:04):
I said eighty five, yeah, eighty five crack yeah, grade
of one eighty five. I think he is an average
of like over sixty. So he doesn't get out that often.
He plays a lower order role to perfection, and that's
what I was talking about with RCB. They have one
or two batsman a game that sort of chime in
and make the runs.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
They don't normally do it together, and David's been one
of those.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
But he's a big loss.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
He's a big loss. I'm hearing. Was its kind of
Raja possibly, but Michael.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Bracewells, which are both good players, but they're not life
for like at all because ra is.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
All around the right, right, so they're both all round us.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
They're probably offer more with the ball than what David would,
but you just big explosiveness. That is a big loss.
So a lot of reliance goes on Coolie again.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Oh bait, he eats pressure for breakfast?

Speaker 3 (15:52):
That man?

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Pressure?

Speaker 3 (15:54):
What pressure?

Speaker 1 (15:55):
What's that? What's that from?

Speaker 3 (15:56):
It's a song, mate, we don't need to cover it.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
I thought it was also the commentator in the the finals. Anyway.
We can touch on that later. Final predictions. Let's get
to it. Who makes the final, who wins it all?
We're going to start with that all right off the
Batleo pre do you reckon?

Speaker 2 (16:11):
I think good rat will play. I'm gonna say Punjab
oh in the final no CVCB and.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
I've tipped them in our preview show.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Go check that out as well. If you want to
check out our preseason predictions. Yes, Good I'm sticking with
Good Rat.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
Tip them in.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
I'm tipping them now. I think their batting is just
too strong. They're bowling does more than enough to hold
up its end of the bargain. I think they've been
the best side this season and I think they will
win it.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
I don't mind that. I'm I'm thinking the exact same finals.
I'm going Good Rate and Punjab. I think Good Rat
have the best kid. I'm just going to put that
out there.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
I've got one of them.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
You do have one of their kids and they look beautiful.
They're like the lightning bolt and everything. But Punjab, I
think this is just there. Yeah, they're going to finally
win an IPL title. You've got everything's falling into place.
You've got who was straight I has been dominating. I
just think Josh English gets man on the matter.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
I love it awesome.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
I love that Josh Ingis is shining there and I
think everything's just come into place, especially Ricky Ponting. There's
just an Ossie vibe and I guess what ozsies do
win Ricky Ricky pont wins.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
Indian fans are going to is.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
One trophies like they will probably, but Ozzie's win and
if you have an Ozzie coach, I reckon Ricky Ponty
can take them all the way. So I think they're
gonna win it all against Goods RAT and as R
C B they crumble in the playoffs. Thanks no, Sorry
that was probably unecessary, but it's just true, just facts.
Let's finish off with the playoffs m v P or
whatever you want to call it. Player of the Playoffs.
Who have you got there?

Speaker 3 (17:41):
It can only be one man? I think. I think
Schulman Gill. I do.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
I think he again, check out the preseason show. I
backed him for most runs and he finished second. So
I was very close, falling short to Sid Harsen. He's
had a great seat. But I just think he's the
man for the moment, for the IPL stage. He is
just in amazing form, great front foot, back foote against spin,

(18:12):
against pace.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
He can do it all that man should man.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
I don't mind that as a batter. That's why I'd
be leading towards I'm going to go towards a ball
of arsteep sing. I've talked him up. He's that eighteen
wickets I think in the playoffs as well. I don't
think the scores are always as big as the regular
and everyone's a bit more tense. The guys can get
a few more wickets. And I think he's the perfect
ball that can pitch it up. Yeah, he can. Has
the change ups and things like that, which is perfect
for playoff conditions, and I reckon you'll catch a few
people out that are trying to increase that strike rate

(18:36):
a little bit nervous in the playoffs, and you'll get
a few wickets.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
I would love to see, because obviously no game is
set in stone yet depending on tonight's result, but I
would love to see ar Cheep sing versu Shuldman gil.

Speaker 1 (18:47):
Oh, that'll be fun.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
In a final, that would be awesome. I would love
to see who wins that battle. Just give six balls
as Cheep sing to Shuldman Gill or even like a.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Super over super would be good.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Can we stop that script? Script? It can call up
the bookies.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Okay, well that is enough from that man over there.
All right. That is stumps for the Cricket Today Show.
We will be back. We'll be back for some possible
IPR content on the socials of yes, as well as
the World Test Championship. We're going to be covering that.
That's in a couple of weeks and Bossies are taking
on South Africa.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
Next Wednesday will be our first show on it.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Yes, so our plan is June fourth to the seventeenth.
We'll be doing content for those couple of weeks there,
which would be really good. Fine, and I think that
would be really fun content because we haven't played South
Africa in a while, so yeah, that's been a while.
That's been a while, so that'd be really good. Get
right around. The show makes you subscribe. Like I said before,
we're trying to get to that four k subscribers maybe
by the end ip I why not, And yes, send

(19:42):
any quick questions, comments, things that you want to get
into in touch with. You can have a goal, Lere.
You can have a goal, but you can do what
you want. So thank you very much, Dury. Behind the camera,
I would usually say thanks to Marcus, but he doesn't
rock up sometimes. Thank you very much, Leo Sligh, Oh
my god, I can't believe you said that.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Again.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
That's another episode of Cricket Today done. We're out
