We've also got Marcus Barzano the mow is coming through,
so I don't know if he's a sharp looking good

Speaker 4 (00:27):

do a few articles there. Awesome show. As we go
through the first test of the Frank Worreld Trophy, We've
got predicted lineups, key players, what to watch out for
and our predictions as well, like.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
We sometimes get it wrong, we sometimes get it wrong.
So I reckon today, we're we're going to.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Be on more often than not get them wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah, problem, but we have cracked. We have a crack.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
So let us know in the comments after you hear
our predictions or even just now chucking your predictions for
the Australia Versus West Indies series before we start. Make
sure you get around this show on Spotify, Apple Podcasts,
subscribe to the YouTube channel, make sure you get around
the comments and we can reply to a lot of
them through the through the socials and through other things
like that, as well as all the socials at Cricket
Today AU. That's across every every social thing for cricket
all season long. Let's just get into it. Let's get
(01:28):
straight into it. The first test our predicted lineups. Now,
just putting that out there that we don't know the
exact lineups as of yet, so we're just doing our
predicted lineups, or mainly Leo's predicted lineups because that's what
he's gone right, So I will start with the man himself, Leo.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
For as Australia's lineup, I've gone with Kawaja Constance Green,
English Head, Big Bow Website, BBW AT six carry Cummings,
Stark Line and Hazeled.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
What do we think? What are your early vibes when
I tell you that.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
I'm not sure it to be honest, that mainly just
the bowling attack. I don't think we need to go
as heavy like the four pronged attack that have got
to all have two hundred and fifty plus Test wickets.
I don't think we need to go that hard. I
think it's an opportunity to rest the works of Hazelwood,
Starks played a lot of cricket recently and Cummins coming
back from injury. Yeah, ok, Hazelwood, So I think it's
(02:21):
a chance to maybe rest one or two of those.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
I think the West Indies bowlers more suited the pace
bowlers because they sort of used to Australia. I think
the spinners we've talked about that before anywhere sort of
out that side of the world is a bit more
suited to spin. They've got the humidity I think Leo
was talking about as well. I think might get a
bit of drift in the air. So I'd rather con
him in there, probably over Hazwood, just to give him
a rest and I think Marcus you mentioned resting like
(02:44):
a bowler per test because it's not the biggest series
in the world obviously for a few different reasons.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
But I'd be resting the bowlers.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
There's fast bowlers, Chuck Cunheman in there with line because
they work really well together as well.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
I'm not against Koneman, but I just think you could
probably get that out to have had and Webster bowling spin,
I'd say, don't mind the bowl and spin.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
I don't mind it, yeah, fair enough, fair enough anything
else on the Australia line up that we want to
touch on.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
So obviously Marnus has been dropped.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
Smith is injured, so it's a good opportunity for constants
opening the batting conditions and English is also expected to play.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Who handles the spin very nice?
Speaker 4 (03:21):
I think he's very stiff. Not to even just be
in our test scored your test team, starting test team
in general, like our best eleven.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
He's behind Stephen Smith.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Well we could come in from Mars yeah open, No,
not to open. He can bat it three, can he?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I don't think absolutely.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
I would rather English.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
I would personally rather English at three than Cam Green
at three because Cam Green is a.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Little bit either really bad at three.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah, but I think especially with Kowhaja and Concerts in
this series, I might get a bit of confidence and
that won't be as quick to come in as some
other series, because other series it's like one for none
and the third Batsmaster comes straight in. I hope that
we get a good start and then Ingerson Green have
a lot less pressure on him.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
I feel like this is a good time to test
even if we don't play Even if we don't play
Manus the whole series, we don't play Smith for the
whole series. I'm not sure what his time frame is
for returning, but it is a good opportunity to prepare
for what the top order of the Ashes will look
like and give these players a role. Maybe even just
swap the opening partnership up a little bit throughout the series.
(04:24):
Maybe open English, open Green, open head.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Just comments. Could we go at the bat he can
open He's beast Now I just want.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
To get serious.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Oh, let's get serious and let's have a bit of fun.
I want to talk about Sami Constance. He is literally
one of the most exciting players in the world. He
lit it up on boxing day. Do we think he's
going to just bring that energy and bring exactly what
he does every other time with the rampshots in the
first over, Possibly he's going to go for a ball
one or how do we think he should approach it
as well?
Speaker 2 (04:50):
I think he could be a little bit rattled or
win these conditions.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Probably not the best player of spin, and the pace
of Alzari and Tamaar Joseph, which we're going to touch on,
could just get to him a little bit.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
We'll see though.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
Well, Shama Joseph did share some choice words with Sammy.
He did say basically good luck when you come here,
like look out, good luck.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
I think the actual words will like look out.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
He sounds like a really nice guy.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
So maybe Sami Consas will try and flew it up
a little bit. You can expect Schmar Joseph to bowl
pretty full, I think to Samnis at the start at
the stumps, particularly if Sami is going to start reaping
reaping ramping, he.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Could reap his rewards with it with a quick ton,
that'd be nice. He could he could do thank you.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
You know me always love opening up with.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Head absolutely, Travis said. Trav ball is exactly what you
mean there.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Got the Travis said, Mogo, And yeah it actually does
look a bit of travel it doesn't Who don't know
the same world about Leo's beard?
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Who is that like in the Aussie team.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
I don't think anyone actually has a dark star stuck As.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Is the closest one. No one. Did any of them
have a beard?
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Maxie used to have a beard.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Actually one has a stubbly sort of thing.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Going with his bald could go one.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
I reckon, hm hmm, obvious to calm down and fine
over here, Marcus. All right, Marcus, we'll let you have
the limelight for.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
A little bit. West Indies give me the line.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
We're talking about the West Indies team because it is
an exciting team. It is last time they came over
and knocked us over at together, so it could be
a little bit similar. Browth wait opening with Louis Darryl
Brathway Brathwait Louis as the opening batsman. We've got Kasey
(06:48):
Carty shall I hope Chase Greeves like Azari Joseph Worrican
Seals and Shama Joseph gotten out the team.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
That's actually pretty good, Tower predicted a yes, that's just
our pretty good Well, the guy Roston Chase is their
new captain, which is going to be a different sort
of phase in West. In his cricket, you've obviously got
the two Joseph's of just very exciting part. Fast bowlers
probably needed a little bit more consistency because in the
short format they've been getting hit around a bit. But
I probably I like especially Shama better in the Test
format really, I think because he was getting sacked around
(07:20):
a lot, around a lot.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
For Alzari Joseph to be their best bowler basically in
all formats. I was a little bit underwhelmed by him
the last time the West in his cams Australia, I
was expecting a bit more. So I'm excited to see
what he can do in his home nation.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
I do just feel like he always like threatens to
take like three wickets in a spell and break the game.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Open type bowler, yeah, I think he's probably one lock.
He'll quietly get two minimum two or three each innings,
but he doesn't really stand out, whereas which is like
credit to him, is very Hazel would like in a sense.
It doesn't take big bags, but consistent takes two or
three minutes.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
That's what you need. You've got a few thoughts on
Casey Cardi? What's the thick they playboy? Can we call
him Playboy Cardi boy?
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Can we call him most?
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Can we call him Katie Carsei Cardi, B, Cardi B?
Speaker 2 (08:11):
What was yours?
Speaker 4 (08:12):
It's just swapping the sea and the tea in his
name his first name or second name.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
That might be the worst one.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Yeah, that's not the comments.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
Yeah, no, I want to talk about Kasey Cardi. Look,
he only averages seventeen from ten, so it's not not great,
not great, But here's an odio average of nearly fifty.
He's a very composed batsman. I love him in the
number three slot, but when he plays, ODIs for the Windys.
If he plays, he's one that I'm looking looking forward
to watching because, as we said, this is our predicted eleven.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
I want him to play.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
I don't know if he will.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
No, like you said, I think his form in the
short form it might help him get picked anyway. So
hopefully he can help that average because seventeen, I don't
know if that average is going.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
To go up against Australia. Though one's the best bowling attacks.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
That's Marnus territory.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Last ten. Yeah, yeah, he's up.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
But I think get twenty one or twenty five or
something like that in the last twelve.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Yeah, I'd be excited to see a bit of Cardi.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
All right, that's the predicted elevens for this Test to
first Test match in the Test series. Let's get into
the first Test predictions. A few stats just before we
get into it. Australia lead fifteen eight with three draws
against the West Indies all time, so pretty confident heading
into this one. Twenty twenty three, twenty twenty four, the
series was won all that so obviously we had Shama
Joseph with seven for sixty eight at the Gabba. We
(09:24):
were talking him up like he was the best thing
since uslices bread. How good was he last time?
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Spread? He was so good. I just love the celebration.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
We took that wicket and yeah broken fort as well
when he's running all the way to the boundary line.
It was great for cricket in general. I think we
were all supporting the West Indies.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Funnily, I don't know about that one.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Joseph for not the West Indies.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
I was quietly like, I want the West Indies to
get up and win this because.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
That's an Australia. It's good for cricket.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
The West Indies doing playing well. I do not against
does bottom old of mind, like we already retained the series.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
Who cares care?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
It was also the first time Western beat Australia in
a Test match since two thousand and three. That one
of the gap, so really really good signs for the
West that would be a little bit confident just to
having that win in the back of their minds. And
it was Shama Joseph. Joseph's first series, so it's probably
taken a few steps up since then. And the fact
that he can do it against one of the best
teams in the world, he'll be fired up.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Yeah yeah, Well it's going to be a tough ask
for the West in news because they'll be looking to retain.
But we'll take the trophy, the Royal Trophy for the
first time since almost in the nineties.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Yeah yeah, which is a very very long time. All Right,
let's get into we've talked up a few of the bowlers.
Let's get into the best bowler. We'll start with Marcus
because we've literally talked up this guy for five minutes.
Shama Joseph. He helped us with get some views last
year and hopefully he helps us again.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Yeah, I think he's going to I think he's going
to be great. And I think the Aussies moight just
have a little bit of nightmarees when Shamar Joseph is
running into bowl because they'll remember what happened last time
here we tore us apart. And I think he's well
up for this clash and he's got he's talked the
talk pre game and there he's going to.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Walk the walk.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
I like that. I really, I really liked that best
bawl there.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
I'm going completely different with gaz line Gas and the
spinning conditions of play into his favor, and yeah, I'm
just all.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Aboard him, all aboard.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
I'm going to go Matt Cuonerman the Man because he
led the wickets for Australia in Sri Lanka. Obviously that
was more spinning conditions. I think some players from the
West Indies, as you mentioned, are better in the short
format and sometimes I like to play a little bit attacking.
They'll probably hid it in the air a few times,
and you can't do that against the quick, quick spin baller.
Sometimes he darts it in there, so I think that'll
help in these conditions.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
And I think Coonerman, if.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
He plays, I think he should play, because the gas
Line was talking yesterday in an interview saying he loves
playing with Conerman and this is perfect for them to
pair up. So I'd love to see them pair up.
And I think we'll be able a Lion and Cooneman
for their leading wickets. I'm going to go Couoneman.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
Because it was a bit It was Todd Murphy, wasn't
it and Conerman in Sri Lanka.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Yeah, we've actually got some good spinning options, like even
obviously Lines on another level. But even when he retires,
you've got Murphy, You've got Kunerman. I've got to I'm
trying to think of a few other ones as well.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
There's someone the name Escapes, Yeah, Arlie.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
Ch Charlie. That's the one that's hope.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Was supposed to be the was supposed to be the
next big thing, but he fell.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
So that's the best balls. Le's get into the best batsman.
I'll start with Leo this time. Who's going to lead
the way with the bat.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Josh English at that number four position.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
I think you'll get a great look at it, and
he loves playing spin.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Made a century on debut against Sri Lanka, batting.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
It four or five. But he just knows how to
handle the spinning conditions. And we're talking up like it's
going to be been dominant. So Joshi boy, I like that.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Marcus.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I think we've got a common theme here of batsman
that play well against spin.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
And I'm going to go Alex Carey.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
He didn't I didn't really rate him when he first
came into the Australian setup, but over the past three
years really he's been very consistent and I think this
is the series where he stakes his claim as one
of Australia's better batsman than an unsettled top six seven.
So I'm going to go Alex care because again, play
(13:11):
spin very well.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
I don't mind, yeah, the middle order or the top
to middle order picks, because the top few guys haven't
been making runs for Australia.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
But I think this is the resurgence of Uzzy.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Every time we got I should be out of the team.
He should be in the team. He should be outed,
him should be in the team. He proves us all
wrong and he just has a big score. So he
averages fifty eight against the West Indies across his career.
I think it's about six matches that he's played against him,
and he's had fifty plus in his last four of
his last five against the West Indies. So I reckon
he's going to have at least an eighty plus, maybe
a ton as well.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
So I reckon he could lead the runs?
Speaker 1 (13:42):
Was he just I want him to do well because
he's like, he's just a great seems like a great guy.
He's great for the team and he does well overseas.
He's showed that before, so I think he can do
as the best batsman. All right, let's finish it off.
I know what you're gonna pick anyway, But who's going
to win this first Test match and the series as well?
I wouldn't mind hearing about that.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
I think Australia will win.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
That's biased, But series I think Windys could sneak one.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
I reckon two.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
One was Australia. Okay, Australia.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
I'm going to lead towards the same margin. I'm going
to go to one Australia's favor. I'm just really excited
to see this new look batting lineup for Australia, particularly English.
I thought English was English was going to be my pick,
but Leo just just nay.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
We could swap no no carry too.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
I want to look out for in this Test match
for Australia is English English?
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Yeah, for sure, I'm going to go Australia's well, I'm
going to go a whitewash.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Three three zip three zips clicked just because they might
have already before that after we talked about Shamara Joseph. Now,
I just genuinely think that even if they don't fire,
Australia at the top order the middle order, like you
guys said, he is going to fire with the bat
and I just think Australia is too good. They don't
plays as many tests the West Indies, They're not as experienced,
and Australia is going to shine.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
In this one.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
I think it looked bad against South Africa in the
World Test Championship when we dropped off, but South Africa's
on another level to the West Indies and Australia's going
to going to do.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
This one pretty easy. I think there we go, all right,
Are we a right to call it. Are you guys?
There was a quick show for once. Are right with that?
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Bad light?
Speaker 3 (15:11):
Stop play?
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Yeah, bad lights stop play? That starts for the Cricket
Today Show. We'll be back for a test rap. Are
we happy with that?
Speaker 2 (15:17):
We are?
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Yeah? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
The plan was in the plane a bit.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
I did the plan for summer in winter.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
This guy, I wish it.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Was summer because I wish the sumer of cricket is
already here. Get right around the show. Make sure you subscribe.
We're trying to get to what we what do.
Speaker 3 (15:33):
We we leave four K four K. Let's get the foe.
So next goal is four K. Make sure you get
us there.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Send any questions comments, let us know how these guys
on the couch go and how they're looking, if they're
looking sharp or they're looking home.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Let's leave the sharp chat behind.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
Thank you very much to Brodie behind the camera.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Thank you, Lereic, thank you, thanks Marcus, thank you, Status perfect.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
That's another episode of Cricket Today's We're
