your World Test Championship Final needs. I'm your host Lea
mckelly and also as the stats guy. We've got Leo
in there. He doesn't even want to talk about Australia
vers South Africa. He's probably more keen to talk about
RCB in his RCB top.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
I'm going great, RCB win their first ever ip Old
Trophy and I beg the boys. I beg the boys,
let's do an IPL rap show and they said, Leo,
we don't want to hear you talk for an hour
on r CB.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Not quite sure that tell it went, but I'm pretty
sure that went.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Yeah, Leo doesn't lie. I've also got Marcus Barzano. He's
more excited about Australia verse South Africa.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
I am, but it's also dull turn next IPL season
for the Sunrises because my team won last season, your
team won this season. But now it's all about Australia.
We'll hope they get up against South Africa.

You've got the predicted lineups, news and how could play out.
We're going to have a bit of a debate with
the predicted lineup and how the team sees it, our
comings Captain of Australia especially seas it, so that'll be
interesting before we start as well. Make sure you get

(01:15):
YouTube channel. Make sure you get around the comments. We've
had a fan certified Plumbo. He's been in the comments.
Wanted us to jump back on he has.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
He said he's missed us during the We sort of
went away for a little bit of there for a
month as we focused on AFL content. But we still
want to reach that four K subscribers. We're at three
nine and thirty four, so hopefully we can get that ticking.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Is it a new year and what is a new show?
What has gone on? He's got the subscribe account on. Yeah,
it's very rare.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
It's a cricket tradition so far.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah, he has been in good form.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
So far we've had about two minutes of the show
and get around all the socials, Crickets today AU and
for more create content. We're going to be doing it
for the World Test Championship all week. It's gonna be awesome.
It's not a week it's going to be it's gonna
be great. It's actually really good timing in Australia. Seven
thirty start for us.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
In we'll be losing sleep though for a little bit.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Like you get to watch a bit of it. You're
up watching sport at three and most of them. Yeah,
that's true, that's your normal normal hours. All right, let's
get into the World Test Championship predicted lineups.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
We'll start off with the Aussies Australia.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
I'll go through what most of the sites are saying
and then we can have a bit of debate, a
bit of a debate about it.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
Kwaja Labashane are opening.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
You've got Green at three, Smith at four, Travis Head,
Webster and Kerry in the middle middle order there.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Then you've got Cummins, Stark, Lion.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
And Hazelwood as the bowl. That's what do we think
about Owen Lad's Well.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
There's no Sam consciss, I don't like it.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
Where is he?
Speaker 3 (02:32):
I don't think you can just throw them in there.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
We did a boxing day, let's just do it again.
It's different than the balls moving.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Argue, it's harder the balls moving a mile and look
hasn't been in great form, But you look at someone
like cam Green. Obviously he's in the predicted lineup. He's
been in great county form. If you want to talk
about him with.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Four centuries this county season, and we talk about forman
county level minus hasn't made over twenty five and four innings.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
I feel like this is a minus out type of show.
It might be I don't want Sam Constains opening because
I don't think his technique is going to work an ingland.
I know he can slash across the line and play
bas ball like but I don't know how I said.
They got a shout out on the show. But I
think I'm okay with Labashane opening for now. But he
has to perform because he's he's he can block it
(03:21):
better in the condition block it bat leg.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Would you like to see possibly Cam Green opening, and
then maybe you bring Josh Englisson or vice versa.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Maybe English open.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
I don't think English is a top three batsman.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
I think he's a four five six, and I think
we're well stocked in that area. Look for me for mine,
I want Green at three and constats opening. You're saying
Lava Shane can block it better, but that's why we've
got Kawaja, Green and Smith who can all block it. Fine,
we're gonna be one for none anyway, at least with
Conscious out there.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
If we're going to be watching some exciting cricket.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Even if he goes out Labas, Shane's gonna get squared
up a million times.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
Let's have a bit of fun watching this game. Let's
bring in the twenty year old. I think is he
twenty now? I don't know. It might still be ninety.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
I'm actually sure he's very young, but I think that's
part of it. It's a final.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
They're trying to go the experience. You obviously got the
bowling lineup that we just picked for everything. Happy with
the buying lineup, Hazelwood says he's bowling the best across
his career. I think he's personally saying that just to
get himself a spot in the side, because he is
coming off an injury he played while in the IPL season.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
He was awesome. Your favorite man, the Hoff. I love
the Hoff. He's not bowling the best of his career,
but he's still bowling well. Yeah, he's still bowling well.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
And he's a very similar bowler to Bowland, except he
probably just has an extra few clicks on him. But
in England, as long as you just hit that sport,
which is what Hazewold does, you're going to get wickets
in England, just the way the ball nips and nibbles,
which is why I think Hazel would like you'll be
the top wicket taker for Australia.
Speaker 5 (04:47):
Spoiler alert, Oh oh, maybe not a spoiler alert?
Speaker 3 (04:50):
What oh in the match? There we go.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
I don't think it is a spoiler alert. We've also
got Smith, Steve Smith. It's a weird one because he
doesn't stop shadow batting. He gets his wife to throw
rowdowns to him when he gets home. He has a
bowling machine at home. He's usually training the house down,
always just twenty four to seven. But apparently he hasn't
battered since the Champions Trophy in March, and I had
saw a lot of videos of him in New York
he's just down in beers having a good time with
(05:13):
the schooner scorer.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
He was a schooner scorer. Like, what how you go?
Speaker 5 (05:17):
What the hell?
Speaker 3 (05:17):
What the hell are you got some points in this
Marcus Smith.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Actually, he loves playing at Lord's, so it doesn't matter
if he's been practicing or not. I think he's well
in for a good game here. I've just fifty eight
at Lord's and he only needs seventeen more runs to
overtake Sir Donald Bradman, who runs scored at Lord's.
Speaker 5 (05:36):
You know what's going to happen?
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Is he going to mixteen and zero sixteen sixteen?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
He's guy go Don Bradman trying to average a hundred.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
Yeah, he got so close to against the West Indies.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Was it if we play last summer Pakistan? Pakistan, Pakistan?
Speaker 4 (05:54):
He was so close to he was so close to
no India, to getting the run.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Forget about India. That was one of the best Test
series and you're so close to getting you're talking.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
About the last World Test Championship final.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Yeah, I've got no idea what's going on?
Speaker 4 (06:09):
What's but yeah Smith, hopefully he can eclipse Sir Donald Bredman.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Yeah, no, good call. You've got a few more stats
about Australia. Not too bad since the Ashes.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Since well since the Ashes. They got a forty five
percent winning record at Lord's. That should say Lord's not
the Ashes. But they got a forty five percent winning
record at Lord's only seven losses in forty Test matches there.
And South Africa they have a good record themselves. They've
won five of their past seven Test matches at Lords.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
That surprises me because their record in England overall is
not that great. I think they were two and five
in their last seven over in England. But they play
well Lords. So both team as good at Lords. Don't
mind that should we get into the South African sidelights?
Speaker 5 (06:51):
Do it all right?
Speaker 1 (06:52):
So we've got this is the predicted eleven. I think
there's a bit of a debate on who's going to
bat at three. But you've got Markram and Rickleton, Ricky
Rickleton out one of our show.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
You do it, You do it, Ricky.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
There we go, There we go this Ausi at three,
but Ruma the skipper at four, stubs at five, Veri
En the keeper, Molder, Yanson, Maharaj, Roberta and Engide are
the bowlers.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
That's a very solid side.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
I think both sides are leaning towards being a better
bowling side definitely, because like it's going to be a
lot of wickets in this one. Would you guys agree?
Speaker 5 (07:23):
I do agree.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
You know, you've got Roberta who loves to play against
the Aussies.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
He does well, he does and look he don't expect
him to dominate early. He averages the best out of
all the bowls, including the Australian balls at Lord's. I
think he averages about nineteen and he he loves playing
Australia's taking forty nine wickets against the AUSSI.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Yeah, I think there's a few memories of just like
he's feeling a bit terrorized from Roberta.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
We never really have those. We don't face balls that
scare us, but Roberto is.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
There's that obviously the infamous series in South Africa with
the ball tamping Roberta.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
That was on an absolute tear that series in him.
That's right, bum Smith? And was it a bump? Was
it not?
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Who would you rather face in their prime? No what Smith,
Bob Dale Stain or Roberta. I'd rather face Roberta. I'd
rather face I'll be more scared of staying because he's.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
He's scared of stayin as well.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
But Robarda, they will be a little bit a little
bit scared of trick. Are you scared of this front
six as in the Battle?
Speaker 1 (08:27):
No?
Speaker 2 (08:28):
I agree, there's you know Markham and Bavuma, are you
good players? But they're not instilling the fear of death
into any bowling side.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
I think think.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Markram as well.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
You've got Markram, Rickleton h and a few others that
are dominated in the short format. They've done solid in
the test format, but I'd be more scared of this
team maybe in the shorter format, maybe like the one
day format.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
I'd say that's understandable.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yeah and yeah. Also South Africa.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
They they're actually the only major test team, so the
test teams that started at all to not win a
world trophy. So they would want to get that choker
mentality off their back because they've dropped the World Cup
in the what was it in the nineties, I think, yeah,
ninety nine Gibbs. They were in Herschel Gibbs, that's right,
and then they were in a T twenty World Cup
final against India where they needed thirty or thirty balls
(09:14):
and they choked that.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
So they need to just just win something. But I
don't think this is the one they do.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
They haven't played Test cricket for Quard a whole actually
they haven't played for six months, which has been which
has been a long time.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
But even still, their journey to get.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Here, I think it was a little bit like they
finished as the top seed, but I think that's skewed.
It's skewed a little bit because they did beat They
did draw to India, sorry, in the first Test to
solid which is solid one one drawer I believe, and
then a two nil loss against a third string New
Zealand outfit, which is a little bit worrying. You're like, oh,
(09:48):
hold on, But then they finished with seven consecutive victories,
but they did because they did come against Sri Lanka,
Pakistan and the West Indies at home and Bangladesh away. Yeah,
so you've got how much do we read into Obviously
the seven consecutive victories, like you gotta.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
Win, get into the front of you.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
But yeah, playing like Pakistan Chelanka at home, like it's
a lot easier than playing them away.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
So I don't know. I think the world might be
a bit.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
Like you can't read that much into it. I don't know.
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
And especially it's just a one off test, it's not
a series. Like if South Africa played their best, they
can obviously win this. But I think Australia just in
terms of the finals of the finals experience, they know
how to win, probably have the edge. And like you said,
the World Test Championship people, I just want to touch
on that.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
What is it what has gone on there?
Speaker 1 (10:38):
South Africa the top of the table with seven less
matches played and the percentage is all I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
It sounds like Ben Stokes, Yeah, understand it, that's what
you like.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Well, Ben Stokes is literally quoted.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
Saying it's a bit confusing. I don't understand it was.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
It doesn't matter for England because they're down the bottom
of the table, so it doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
But in terms of the team's teams at the top,
like Australia, like South Africa, it means a bit more.
I don't know. Yeah. I like the ideas good. The
idea is good.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
The execution of how it works is it's a scheduling
issue not quite right.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
Yeah, it's hard to schedule. Yeah, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Yeah, yeah, the Test, the overall Test format is hard
to schedule, all right. So that's the predict that I'll
have a few little stats on the side there. So
let's get into the predictions for this one. I will
get right into it. Why not the best bowler, Leo,
who's going to be the best bowler in this one?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Or the most wickets?
Speaker 2 (11:27):
I think it's going to be Clark can't miss the
perfect Pat come and get. I just think he knows
not to extracts the best out of the surface, HiT's
the hard leans and he's going to be nicking off
these South African batsmen.
Speaker 5 (11:40):
All day long.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Interesting, I'm going to go to the other side of
the fence. I'm going to go South Africans Roberta. So
I just think Australia they because the Australian bowling lineup
is so good.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
South Africa have a very good bowling lup as well,
But I feel like the Aussie bowling lineup share the
wickets more.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
That's true.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
We don't really see a lot of them taken five ers,
unless perhaps maybe Pat comes here and there.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
But Kaqisa Robata.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
I think he's a bowler that the batsman will be
scared to face, particularly.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
The top water where we're not that secure.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Yep, no, good God, you'll have to get a few
more wickets without Nokia in.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
I think he's still out in the back injury. But
it's weird. He's like, yeah, far off the face of
the earth in terms of news because bowler.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
He's a quick bowler and he could also put fear
into the Aussies. But he's he's a big out in Nokia,
my best bowler. I'm gonna go Hazel with the Hoff.
Like you mentioned before, I was surprised you didn't put
him your man the half.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
I know, I know, but I was just thinking, I
love the Hoff, but I'll save him for later.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
I'll save him for later we're doing what are you
doing to do with best batsman? Best? I'll save him
for the hotel room. Yeah, oh geez, I don't know
what you want to do there.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
But genuinely I think he's what he's He hits the spot.
He's perfect. You don't have to be quick in England,
like we've seen with Peters little back in the day, sitting.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
The spot really good.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
Could reach one forty.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Not when he was playing in England in the last
time he was over No, that's what I'm talking about it.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Yeah, he was forty and still do on a job.
Hazward's getting older.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
I think he can still hit the spot and this
is just the perfect conditions usually in England for him.
So I'm going to go him as the best bowler.
I have a look at the best batsman lads, So
I'll start with Marcus this time.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Yeah, I'm going to go I'll talk about Steve Smith's records.
So I'm going to go Steve Smith. The stats back
it up and I'll expect him to deliver again.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
And he's been is in a good headspace at the moment.
He's not not thinking too hard, he's not training too hard.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
You know what's in his head.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
To be fair, he's always over No, just it just
seems like he is. He's not stressed. I rang him
the other day.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
We had a good cho trained psychologist stats guy.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Yeah, I was a psychologist before I was a host.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
Had a big brain.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Yeah yeah, thank you, big head. Yeah says you've copied me.
I've gone Travis Head. Yes, I just seek you can't
go past him in the travel ball just blistering bowlers
to all parts.
Speaker 5 (13:45):
Will probably come in with three for thirty and we'll
take us to the Promised Land.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
You can't go the same, Come on copy me.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Every time I say on the show you can't go
the same, you guys say you can.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
So I'm going Travis Head. I'm going Travis Head as well.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
I just think he's made more hundreds in what in
finals before he made a ton in the last World
Tiest Championship final.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
I believe yes he did.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
So. I just think he's made for the big moments
in every single format. I love him so much, Travor
ball for a ton.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
So after those predictions, I'm very excited for Mitch Stark
and Alex Carey to be the best bowlers.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
A batsman prediction is going to be. That'll be right,
I reckon. In terms of the who wins, I just
want to have a few starts for you guys. Six
all in the last twelve tests across these two teams.
So South Africa a few years ago won the series
in Australia, which was a bit of a surprise.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
That was probably actually that might have been like eighteen.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Coming out of ball tampering.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Yes was it. We played South Africa in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
We smashed them, Yeah, we smashed them there. But in
terms of the actual just head to ten the last tweve,
it's six all you've.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Got the record in England.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
You've got Australia seven wins, two draws and seven losses
which is really really solid and South Africa two and five.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
So two wins and five losses.
Speaker 5 (14:53):
Two must have come from Lord.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Yeah, so they've been really good at Lords, but away
from there, so the tandy that's been played to Lords
South Africa as well, Like we mentioned before, seven less
matches in the World Test Championship, which is a bit
of a worry, and Australia won five more matches but
they had more matches, so even in terms of the table,
but I think Australia's run into it has been a
bit more and that's why I think Australia will win.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
What do you guys think?
Speaker 5 (15:13):
I agree?
Speaker 2 (15:14):
And just the fact that Africa haven't played for so
long six months and.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
And and a big Test nation like the India and
New Zealand games are at the start. Like like I'm
not saying anything bad about like Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
But they're not they're not the best.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
They're on the top five cricketing nations Test Test cricketing nations.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
That's in the world.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
But yeah, I'm going to go Australia to do you
want my big call as well?
Speaker 3 (15:38):
We just you guys should do a big call. I'll
get on.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
I was gonna say and put in I'm good at
off the cuff.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
That's what would be cool. Is Hazelwood to have six
fight in the second innings.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
Markets that's yours.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
I've got Josh hazel Will to be the top Australian
wickeerd taker in the first in.
Speaker 5 (16:06):
The second inning and you go on the second.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Innings he's taken. Maybe I didn't.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
According to YouTube, jo has.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Is going to have a great game.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
I reckon, what about Josh in the match? That's my
big ten in the match for Josh Hazewood. So yours
is going Josh Hazewood to be the top first innings
we could take m.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Yep, don't mind that. And Leo wats your big well,
yeah my big call.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
I've gone a little bit different here. Marco Janssen. I'm
calling him the young Stark. He's not really a mini
star because he's taller, but he's the young Stark looking up,
looks exactly like a twenty four year old Mitchell Star
with the acne for.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
It as well.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Yes, he's a great he's a good left arm called
for it was a bit uncalled for, a great left
arm all round coming up through the ranks.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
I rate him really highly.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
I think you'll get a half century with the bat,
that's big. I think he did it at Boxing Day
against US. Yeah, I feel like he did play, playing
really well and with the ball is really good swinging
swinging it.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
So I reckon you'll get five wickets.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
For the match, maybe two and three or four fifty
and a fifty. I still think Australia will win. But
I just like watching Marco Janson play cricket.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Yeah, you said he's very good swinging, So there.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
We go, just like, bring on the bat and the ball,
just like Marcus, and I reckon that'll do us for
the Cricket Today Show. Almost at AFL. That stumps with
the Cricket Today Show. We'll continue to do this show.
We're going to do a rap show after the Uld
