Als de Nederlander Bart in 2017 op het vliegveld van Madrid in de rij staat voor een vlucht naar Barcelona, wordt hij uit de rij gehaald en naar een leeg vliegtuig gebracht. De uren die volgen zetten het leven van Bart op zijn kop.
Wat gebeurde er precies? En wie hadden Bart in het vizier? Volkskrant-journalist Huib Modderkolk en podcastmaker Simone Eleveld gaan op onderzoek in de schimmige wereld van geheime diensten. Kun je ooit zekerheid krijgen of je een doelwit was van een veiligheidsdienst?
In hun zoektocht naar antwoorden blijkt dat Bart over uiterst gevoelige informatie beschikte en niet zomaar een willekeurig doelwit was. Maar ook dat de gebeurtenis diepe sporen nalaat en zorgt voor vertwijfeling en achterdocht bij vrienden en familie.
