This week Ang is joined by Lynn Schulte, birth healing specialist, pelvic health physiotherapist and founder of the ‘Institute for Birth Healing’, which helps women heal from all the issues they face after birth. Directly after birth all women shift their entire focus on to their newborn, any lingering pain or discomfort the mother may feel is chalked up to ‘the difficulty of giving birth’. But, what most women don’t realise is that the trauma of giving birth can lead to pain, both mental and physical, that will last a lifetime if it is not addressed. In this episode, Lynn covers the whole topic of birth related trauma, the consequent pain and how to heal in the short term so that your body and mind are where they need to be.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • With 30 years of experience as a physiotherapist Lynn had to move states and start her practice from scratch. It was here that she discovered a revelation that led to her work with postnatal women.

  • Giving birth is a beautiful, yet traumatic, experience. Lynn explains how the body and mind react to this trauma and how the pain and problems that women experience after birth are a direct result of this trauma.

  • Once the trauma associated with the pain is identified it is time to work on healing. Lynn breaks down how she works with her patients to heal their bodies, and their minds.

  • Lynn talks about the various positions that women lie in when giving birth and how they affect the resulting pain and problems they can incur post birth.

BEST MOMENTS

“Our issues remain in our tissues until we get help with them.”

“The cells of our body get stuck in that place of trauma and we need to heal them so we can move into present day awareness.”

“You can need from the mind alone, you have to reconnect it to your mind."

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
