Na oorlog volgt vrede. Ooit. Maar op Cyprus is daar nog geen sprake van. En ook weer wel. Het land is lid van de EU, de economie is stabiel en er heerst geen politieke chaos. Bovendien zijn er al decennialang geen grote geweldsuitbarstingen geweest. Is er dan geen vrede? Nee, want de Cypriotische regering heeft over ruim dertig procent van de grondgebied van het eiland geen controle. Maar van een oorlogssituatie is ook weer geen sprake.
In deze aflevering worden de vormen van verzoening op Cyprus onder de loep genomen. Geert Jan krijgt een rondleiding door de bufferzone, waar de VN-veiligheidstroepen zijn gestationeerd. Hij krijgt te horen welke initiatieven er zijn om mensen van beide kanten van de demarcatielijn met elkaar in contacten te laten komen. Maar propaganda en desinformatie speelt nog steeds een grote rol, en kan als een lont in het kruitvat werken.
