Oostenrijk valt om meerdere redenen op binnen de Europese Unie. Het land stemt vaak rechts, tot de uiterste flank aan toe. En het land hanteert als één van de weinigen nog een echte neutraliteitspolitiek. Het is één van de weinige EU-lidstaten die niet lid is van de NAVO. Sinds kort in tegenstelling tot Zweden en Finland.
Dat bespreek ik in deze aflevering met Theresa Kuhn, hoogleraar Europese studies aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, en zelf ook Oostenrijkse.
Door die neutraliteitspolitiek hebben Russen met banden tot het Kremlin makkelijk voet aan de grond kunnen krijgen in Oostenrijk. Hoe beïnvloedt dit de positie van Oostenrijk binnen de Europese Unie? En wat betekent dat weer voor de buitenlandpolitiek die de EU graag als één blok wil voeren, ondanks dat dat nationaal beleid is?
