Kanhoji Angria, ein strategisches Wunderkind des indischen Maratha-Reiches, wurde zum Admiral ernannt, bevor er 30 Jahre alt wurde. Unschlagbar auf hoher See, griff er die Schiffe der Ostindien-Kompanien an, die Europa auf Kosten der einheimischen Bevölkerung bereicherten. Obwohl er ein Admiral war, galt der Name Kanhoji Angria auf dem Alten Kontinent als Synonym für Pirat. Somit ging er als größter indischer Pirat in die Geschichte ein, nachdem er es wagte, die ehemaligen europäischen Kolonialmächte herauszufordern.
