A Prefeitura de São Paulo iniciou um novo censo das árvores nas calçadas e canteiros da cidade. A ação, que utilizará tecnologia de laser e inteligência artificial, tem como objetivo mapear cerca de 650 mil árvores e avaliar suas condições. A última contagem foi feita há 10 anos, por meio de fotos aéreas, sem detalhamento sobre o estado das árvores. Em entrevista à Rádio Eldorado, o secretário municipal do Verde e Meio Ambiente, Rodrigo Ashiuchi, disse que o trabalho começou pela Vila Mariana e será estendido a todos os bairros. O mapeamento é feito por quatro veículos e deve estar concluído em até três anos. Para o secretário, a medida pode resultar na redução das quedas de árvores e na detecção de novas áreas de plantio.
