Dat er nog miljarden aan goud, zilver en edelstenen op de bodem van de oceaan liggen, klinkt als iets uit een film. Té mooi om waar te zijn. Toch houdt de San José - de moeder aller scheepswrakken - archeologen, overheden, journalisten en zelfs advocaten bezig. Al driehonderd jaar ligt dit Spaanse galjoen op de zeebodem voor de kust van Colombia. De schat is vooralsnog onbereikbaar, maar velen willen het hebben.
Hoe is dit schip daar terechtgekomen en komt het ooit nog boven water? En van wie is die schat eigenlijk? Dat zoekt presentator Paul Sanders uit in de eerste aflevering van Factor Kuifje. Hij gaat in gesprek met Martijn Manders, maritiem archeoloog aan de Universiteit Leiden en bij de Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed.
