Op 24 november 1971 kaapte een man die zich Dan Cooper noemde Northwest Orient Flight 305 van Portland naar Seattle. Gekleed in pak en stropdas, beweerde hij een bom in zijn koffer te hebben. Na zijn eisen - $200.000 losgeld en vier parachutes - ingewilligd te zien, liet hij de passagiers vrij en beval de piloot naar Mexico City te vliegen. Boven de bossen van Washington sprong hij uit het vliegtuig, de stormachtige nacht in. Hij werd nooit meer gezien. Het is de enige onopgeloste vliegtuigkaping in de Amerikaanse luchtvaartgeschiedenis. Was Dan Cooper een briljante crimineel die de perfecte misdaad pleegde? Of kwam hij om tijdens zijn gedurfde sprong?
