Kamini Wood is a certified coach who helps people take the courageous steps needed to identify their limiting beliefs, and the reasons behind their stagnation or low self-esteem, so they can have what they want professionally and personally to live a fulfilled life.
Kamini joins Dawn to talk about her own experiences with anxiety and their causes, what this taught her as a person and what we can all learn and gain from anxiety and feelings of inadequacy.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
As a child Kamini struggled to fit in as she felt and looked different, this alongside not wanting to feel a burden to her hard-working parents meant that she learnt perfectionist tendencies and to people please; a recipe for anxiety.
Witnessing her children presenting perfectionist tendencies was a catalyst for change in Kamini’s own way of dealing with things.
Finding your limiting beliefs and recognising false narratives are the first steps to begin living your best life, this is something Kamini taught herself and now teaches others too.
Society, culture, families and our own personalities all have an impact in founding and building our belief and value systems, especially about ourselves.
Putting boundaries in place is essential if you want to transform yourself as a people pleaser. Not everyone will be happy with you doing this as they were benefitting from your lack of boundaries.
We can’t eliminate all anxiety and some forms of anxiety actually keep us safe and can be helpful. It’s about recognising when anxiety is unhelpful and how to overcome it when it’s not serving you that’s important.
Instead of trying to get rid of your anxiety, be curious about it and figure out what it is trying to tell you.
Life isn’t always easy, it’s the extremes of life, feelings and emotions that allow us to appreciate the good times. You can’t have love, for example, without pain.
The core belief of not being good enough can affect and impact anyone, it just presents in different ways.
Being present in the moment, the here and now, is one of the biggest gifts you can give to yourself and those around you.
BEST MOMENTS
“The stories that I internalised is that I needed to please others and do for others in order to prove my worth”
“Through obstacle can come opportunity, so through anxiety, what is the opportunity?”
“The human experience is about all the ups and down”
“One of the elements of self-compassion is mindfulness, it’s about being in the present moment”
