KEY TAKEAWAYS
Tess has struggled with anxiety since childhood, this was amplified by moving away from home and then back again.
Hiking was a great stress reliever and a way Tess would deal with anxiety and her mental health, even though she didn’t realise it at the time.
There isn’t just one type of treatment for anxiety, there isn’t even one type of meditation. It’s important that you keep trying to find what works for you even if what you try at first doesn’t work.
You have to be ready to work on yourself and your stress and anxiety. Until you recognise your difficulties and ground yourself you won’t be ready to start treatment.
2020 was the most difficult period for Tess’ anxiety, she had a lot of difficult situations to deal with including her husbands' health difficulties.
Covid had a devastating impact on so many people, it leaves a lasting legacy of mental health problems including anxiety, largely due to the lack of support during that time as well as so many people feeling they had no control over situations.
After experiencing her anxiety crisis in 2020, Tess knew she had to try and take control. She quit her job and put herself fully into her passion of Yoga, studying it in depth and then beginning to teach others.
Tess then went on to becoming certified in wellness coaching, she wanted to support others but also used what she learnt to support herself and her own anxiety.
This multi-faceted approach to dealing with her anxiety helped Tess realise how much she could transform others lives as well as her own.
Tess’ 10-minute method for burnout: Spend 10 minutes of your day and ask yourself, how are you doing, how are you feeling and decide what you need to do today to take 1 step to support yourself.
BEST MOMENTS
“Meet yourself where you’re at…focus on grounding yourself first before you start working on those things”
“Anxiety is all about lack of control and being able to control the future and covid was classic on that, none of us knew what was happening day to day let alone year to year”
“I’m gonna teach yoga on the side and focus on me”
“I’m still continuing that dive of learning all of these different techniques and being able to not only support myself with them…and others”
“It seems so little, 10 minutes, but when you do them all the time every single day you actually spend a lot more time for yourself”
