Speaker 3 (00:24):
Twin Peaks Eats, Drinks, Scenic Views in the Indianapolis area
giving away trees for the holidays.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
That was pretty good.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
It's a twelve year for the giveaway. Let's see.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
They've got eleven restaurants in Texas and Indiana, so volunteers
are going to be on hand to assist with loading
the trees into the vehicles. The trees are available on
a first come, first served basis, one tree per family
while supplies last. They will have one hundred, one hundred
freshly cut trees. This will beat. They will give them
away at six pm on December third.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
December third, Come by and grab a free Christmas Tree.
How about that next Sunday, guys, this is it for
us broadcasting here in this building, because next Sunday we're
going to be broadcasting from Googman House Brewing Company. Kylin,
you're coming right.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
That's off sixteenth Street, we think so.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
I hope it's.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Really close to the old Victory Field. It's really close
to that, the facts across the fire.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Kyler will Yeah, we'll see if we can get everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
I hope you're there.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
We would love for you to come by and see us.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
I know it's a Sunday, but we'll be there from
eleven to one, but between noon and two it is
a free men's health event thanks to Franciscan. So we've
got football food, cold beer, and your chance to win
some game tickets. We've got friends from the fan here
at WIBC and also from B one O. Five free
men's health screenings plus free lunch vouchers courtesy of Franciscan.
(01:46):
Jake Query will be their hammerd Nigel Sean Copeland, JMV,
Jeff Records.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
And us.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Guys, You're not invincible. The whole idea of this is
that you've got some vulnerabilities. It's a free event. They'll
help you screen it. Don't be stupid, take it mavage
of this because you are not invincible.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
We were there last year and it is so much
fun and really so many came out for the event
and again took part of all those free health screenings.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
So we'd love to see you.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
I know it's eleven o'clock on a Sunday, but we'd
love to see you there, and we'll have lots of
air personality.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
So did we mention it was a brewery And it's
a brewery.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
God One House very Sunday, great historic building. It's really cool.
I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving? Kylin, did you
do something special?
Speaker 3 (02:26):
I spent it with family. I'd say that's special.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
That's special, Dan, anything special.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Mackay and I went out to eat, just the two
of us.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Where'd you go?
Speaker 4 (02:33):
We went to rus Chris on the north Side. Had
a wonderful server by the name of Page. She was attentive,
but yet then she left us alone. We realized we've
been dating. We've been eating out together for fifty five years.
Oh never, that doesn't seem possible.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
No, but it doesn't get old, does it? It gets better?
Speaker 4 (02:50):
It doesn't get old at all.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
I did something a little different before Thanksgiving and it
was really the best way I think to go into
the holiday season. And I think, I think, and God willing,
this is what I would do again and again and again.
And it's the Moses Sanders Annual Thanksgiving Day Meal Giveaway.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
But I did it.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
The packing of the food are days before the actual
Thanksgiving feast.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
They packed ten thousand meals.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
But I'll tell you it was such a glorious sight,
you guys, and it really filled my heart. And I
know that sounds maybe cheesy or something, but you know,
we're in such an environment of division and anger. But
that those standing side alongside of people of all color
and all face and all political backgrounds and and everybody
(03:38):
just enjoying doing something for somebody else.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Terry. When the United States of America figures out that
we have more in common, no matter whether we're no
matter what our race, no matter what our religion, no
matter what our sex. When the United States of America
figures out that we have more in common than we
have in difference than the crummy leaders who are manipulating us,
are done. And it's the events. It's events like that
(04:02):
that prove that to me.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Absolutely, amen, because that is the truth. And so if
your heart could do you some good, there are plenty
of volunteer opportunities for you right now during the holiday season,
and I hope you'll take a minute with your family
and your friends. There were groups of friends, there were
office groups from offices, and then just people like me,
just a single person doing it, and there are so
many opportunities, and it really will take you away from
(04:25):
the environment that we're in and you'll realize that we
really all do want some to do some good stuff together,
regardless of our backgrounds and where we come from. So
I hope you'll get to do that, because that just
really started everything off well. And this division, which speaking of,
So we're going to be we're going back into session tomorrow.
(04:46):
Everybody you know that by now, But I understand that
US House Speaker Mike Johnson talked to House Republicans yesterday
for about a half an hour. So House Republicans will
gabble in on Monday, and and that's where we're at right.
I thought it was interesting that a Northern Indiana Republican Senator,
Mike Bohachek, announced Friday that he will vote against Indiana
(05:09):
redistricting following President Trump's use of a slur and a
Thanksgiving social media post.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
And I want to mention this. I know we don't
have much time because we need to get to it.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
But it was the R word that President Trump used,
and some have said, look, it's not a slur, and
it has because it has risen its ugly head. And
I grew up hearing it. Denny probably grew.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Up hearing it.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
It was part of our convert was mainstream and those
that are are really like those with special needs and
that that group have said, no, this is a hurtful word.
And so to me, it's a hurtful word. I don't
care who says it. I don't here it's not necessary.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
There is other vocabulary. But it's interesting that Bohaceak takes
the high ground after he got you know, he pled
guilty to drunk driving in that whole thing during legislature.
So it's interesting how people take the high ground and
squeeze out everybody else.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Well, he has a special needs child, he's got a
downstair and understand, so I understand his anger for it,
and and and just let that be. But that word
I don't think has a place anywhere anymore. Surprised me
how many people came out and said, it's not a
bad word.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
It has risen its ugly head. So I hate that anyway.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
It's a word with a painful past, is all I
can say, and I don't want it in my world.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Okay, So here we go.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
When we come back for we're going to have the
camera on Kylin.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Yep, and Katie Mann is here.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
We're gonna talk to Katie Mann about a really cool
book she just wrote in ways that you can meet
her and get an autograph copy just for the holidays.
It's the first day. Thanks for being here, ninety three WIBC.
Katie Mann is the creator of Indie with Kids and
she's always finding ways to help families enjoy events and
restaurants throughout the city. Well now she's added author to
her list of accomplishments, and she joins us now to
(06:59):
talk about her new book, Where to Take the Kids Indianapolis.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Katie, how are you?
Speaker 5 (07:04):
I'm fantastic, Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Katie has some book signings that are coming up next month.
But before we talk about that, what makes Indianapolis special
or unique as a place to really raise or even
visit with kids.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
You know, we have so much to do here, and
it seems like the more things I find there creates
a bigger demand. The more things I find, the more
families want. So it's like I used to find like
one or two things a week for people to do,
and then all of a sudden they were like, Okay,
we've done that, more and more and more. What else
can we do? What's next? What's next? So, and Indianapolis
(07:40):
just keeps showing up.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
You let's talk about Indie with kids for a minute,
because it has really become this go to resource for families.
How did it all begin for you?
Speaker 5 (07:50):
So? Sixteen years ago, I was a youth director in
Indianapolis looking for things to do for free for the
kids in my youth group. And I decided to go
find all of the things, and I wanted to make
sure that other people knew where to go no matter
what your budget is, whether you have no money, whether
you have a lot of money, and whatever side of
(08:12):
town you lived on. I wanted to make sure you
knew there was something for you to do. And I
wanted to put it all in one place for families
to find and we've been doing it for sixteen years
as a family. We've brought on other parents to help
us out. It's just kind of evolved to be this
great mastermind of people providing information where to.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Take the kids Indianapolis. It's the title of Katie's new book.
It is a fantastic guide for families. How did you
decide which places and activities made it into the book?
Speaker 5 (08:40):
That was the hardest part. I feel like we could
have like two or three or four volumes, and maybe
there will be, and anything that's not in the book
is definitely on the website. And I'd love to be
able to show more love to anyone that didn't make
it into the book. But it was really hard. Ultimately,
what I ended up doing is deciding based on what
(09:00):
people actually ended up using the most on the website.
So the most popular things that were found on the website,
the things that had the highest traffic, the things that
people were really looking for.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
If you've seen a shift even for yourself your own family,
a shift in what you've seen in the kinds of
things families are looking for, yes, you.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Know, there's so much emphasis on making and creating right
now kind of just getting back to doing things that
are I guess creating and tapping into those skills, and
it's really neat to see. But then also outdoors, there's
a huge emphasis on outdoors and being in touch with nature,
(09:41):
which is neat. We're not always looking to just be entertained.
There is that aspect we want that we want our
kids to be entertained. But I feel like back in
the beginning, and it could also just be the age
of my kids too, but back in the beginning, it
felt like there was so much just entertaining my kids, entertaining,
entertaining and entertain and now it's like, let's go learn something,
(10:02):
let's go be with nature, and it's just a neat
thing to see.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Katie Man is here.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Katie is the creator of Indie with Kids, and she's
got a brand new book. We're going to tell you
where you can meet her and get an autograph book,
perfect for the holiday gift giving time. If what's a
kid friendly spot in Indianapolis that locals often kind of overlook.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Can we talk about one of our favorites there have
places to go eat with our kids. Let's talk about
Mashcraft because I know we want to go there a
lot of times families are looking for places to go
eat with their kids, something that everyone in the family
can enjoy, not just the parents or not just the kids.
But what I love about Mashcraft is they have this
menu that pleases everybody. They have bites for the kids,
(10:43):
they have great food for the parents, and then craft
beers that the parents can enjoy. But then they also
have these really great activities like once a month called
kid Craft, where they can come in and the kids
have a craft to do and parents can just really
enjoy their time.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
And what my.
Speaker 5 (11:01):
Kids love about mash Craft is they have a game
selection and so we love doing some family games while
we're there. But they have these great events coming up.
They know we're going to talk about on December fourteenth,
where Santa is going to be at all of their
locations in Greenwood and Fissures and then downtown India and
Delaware and I'll be.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
There and She'll be there.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
We'll give you those times here in just a second.
Seasonal activities here in Indianapolis. What seasonal activity in Indianapolis
do you think every family should experience at least one time.
Speaker 5 (11:34):
Yeah, you have to do something with trains always because Yeah,
Indiana has such a train history. You know, there's always
something to do with trains. Kids love trains, and so
we're so lucky that so many of our museums and
attractions have trains. So there's everything from like Sullivan Hardware
and Garden that does their Sullivan Express all the way
(11:55):
to the Idle Drug Museum that has their their jingle,
and then we've got Celebration Crossing. But I love that.
I also love and I did not grow up in Indianapolis.
We have to be I have like this unique view
of it that I get to come into it, and
to me, I'm like a tourist. Everything was new to
(12:16):
me when I first came here, and so I loved
learning about the history of like the Heir's Tea Room,
and so I love going to the Indiana State Museum
and having the tea in the tea room during the holidays.
That's a really fun thing. You have to go down
to Monument Circle during the holidays and just walk around.
That is something that we love doing. We've taken the
(12:39):
carriage around.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
I bet there's some real hidden gems in the book too.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Let me give you one that's just outside of Indianapolis.
So I want you to think about our friend from Survivor, Rupert.
Did you know that he has a pay that raises
money for his charity. But you can go and for
five dollar have unlimited access to arcade games, or for
ten dollars play all day. And so that's a really
(13:07):
fun one. So if your kids are into and there's pinball.
I played pinball for a whole hour. It was really fun.
That's out I believe in Shelbyville, So that was really fun.
And then of course you've heard of the world's largest
ball of paint, which is also just outside of Central Indiana, right.
I put in a couple of day trips for you
so that you could just get outside of the city
(13:28):
a little bit. But everything from those quick little trips
if you have, you know, like for instance, starting Monday,
my kids are home for a full week, you know,
so we have the fine things to do. We want
to make some memories when we want to go do
these weird things together. And so these are just little
things that we've put in there. And then of course
you know about the So there's the Rock Cola Cafe,
(13:51):
which is very famous in Indy for their Chuck Cola beverage,
and my kids love going there one of those you know,
go and get some greasy food and then try this
vintage beverage that they brought back. We love going there
to just check that out every now and then. But then,
do you know that we also have the world's longest
(14:13):
poke blocks Derby Hill right here in our city. Yeah,
you can just look them all up here. And then
there's really fun experiences like in the summer, you can
go down to Hunter's honey Farm south of Indie and
you can done the whole get up that you wear
and you can go into the hive. I mean, I
have pictures of my kids wearing the whole get up
and they're smoking the bees out in the hive, and
(14:35):
then they go in and they're making a beeswax candle
and filling a little bear with honey. And I mean,
these are just like little experiences that they're going to remember.
And you kind of think, like only in Indiana, But
you know, every city has their own thing that you
think only in my city. But here, there's hundreds of
things in this book. There's a great table contents that
you can look up based on what your kids into.
(14:58):
If they love trains. There's a whole section on trains.
If they love being outdoors, there's a whole bunch of
ideas for outdoors. If they just want to sit and
be calm, their's ideas for that. Just a great guide
to raising kids or visiting Indianapolis with kids.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
I think it's great, It really is, and it's going
to be such a great gift to this holiday season.
Katie Mann is with us. She's the creator of Indy
with Kids. You may know her through that, but now
she's an author of a book called Where to Take
Kids Indianapolis. She's going to be on site at each
Mashcraft event to sign copies of her brand new book
as families meet with Santa. The book is also available
(15:35):
for purchase at these events. As we said, just in
time for the holidays, Katie, Sunday, December fourteenth, you are
going to be busy going from one Mashcraft to another.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
Right, I know, and Santa have a play. I do not,
So I'm just going to have to flay on my own.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
December fourteenth, eleven to twelve thirty at Mashcraft in Greenwood.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Then she'll then.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
She'll go north to Fishers and go from a one
thirty to three o'clock sign books there and then Mashcraft
on Delaware Sorry four to five thirties, and then on Sunday,
December twenty first, from three thirty to four thirty at
Holiday Park where Mashcraft has a pop up location at
the ice rink through the holiday season.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
And so if they can't meet any of these, meet
you at any of these locations, Katie. Where can they
get the book?
Speaker 5 (16:20):
You can buy it on Amazon, you can pick it
up at Buying the Noble, and then locally, I'd love
for you to go check it out at Kurt Vonnegut.
You can pick it up at Kids Inc. At four Kids,
any of your local bookstores as well as several of
the museums in.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Town, Indy with kids creator Katie Man and again the
book is called Where to Take the Kids Indianapolis. Katie,
thank you for giving us your time today. Happy holidays
to you and your family, and we hope to see
at one of these events at Mashcraft. It's twelve twenty eight,
twenty five degrees now in downtown Indianapolis.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
This is the first day. The news is next and
the world's going to know your name, say.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Hamilton and it's coming to Indie. My name is Alexander Hamilton.
Hamilton is going to be in Indy December two through
the fourteenth. You can still get your tickets Broadway in
Indianapolis dot com. Welcome back to the first day.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
That's Kyland.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Now I bring to l because even better, a Hamilton
performer is performing today at Lucas Oil for all of
you who are at the game for the Colts. Michael
nat from Taraho, Indiana. He's in. He's obviously a Hoosier,
but he's performing in the Hamilton Show as they travel
around the country. Very fascinating. Excited to see him perform
(17:37):
next week.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Yeah, I think we're going to talk to him. We
may get a chance to talk to him next week.
We'll see.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
But we've got big plans for next.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
So performing the national Anthem's yes, okay.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Do the national anthem?
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Hey, guys, remember this nineteen seventy seven.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Like yesterday, nineteen seven, Good old nineteen seventy seven.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Bing Crosby's final Christmas special airs on this date in history,
one and a half months after he had died, and
it is remembered for his duet with David Bowie. Remember
this one a modified version of Little Drummer Boy.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
By the skiff sweeping. Remember this.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Fascinating because he.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
So good?
Speaker 5 (18:21):
Can it?
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Yes? Romp swells and nobody knew that he was going
to be dead in a month and a half.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
They had his face singing, beings singing, and then they
had put David Bowie then kinding next to him, so
it looked like they were doing the duet together.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
I think, when that is that my memory?
Speaker 4 (18:47):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
I mean this you seo on Bing Crosby's YouTube page.
It looks like they're right next.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
To each other. I think I was in my fifties
before I knew that Bing Crosby was bald. He was,
he had a two pay.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
Oh sh she showed me the video.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Yeah, it's like they're standing side by side, right, Yeah,
I guess they were.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
They were, he wasn't dead yet.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Now I think what AI could do with that today?
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Oh really?
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Oh my gosh, my gosh.
Speaker 5 (19:15):
A right.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Denny Mack and the YouTube chat was mentioning how well
there's a creator who takes AI versions of songs and
makes them sing whatever else. So they took one of
Creed singing Higher and turned it into Rudolph the Red
Nose Reindeer.
Speaker 4 (19:29):
The AI is so good they could take Bob Hope
and Bing Crosby and make them part of the Supremes.
That is how good they.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
They really could.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
It is.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
The twelve thirty seven is cold out there. Bundle up.
Temperatures continue to fall. It's gonna be a cold week.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Little snow moving in tomorrow night into Tuesday, so be
aware of that as you're doing whatever you're doing this week.
It's kind of like the holidays. Here we go, you know,
shopping and buying and all the stuff.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Come be busy. So you said you're coming up to
the farm to help me pour it?
Speaker 2 (19:57):
Yeah, I did, and I will.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
You heard it there.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Colin was telling me something that is trending, which is traditions.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Yes, holiday traditions, and specifically for new families, so those
who are having their own kids and trying to figure
out what traditions they want to start with their family.
And so it's going around having people comment on their
posts what their traditions are. And I think it'd be fun.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
To kind of teach the new families. Here's some ideas.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Mm hmm. Do you guys have any holiday traditions to
start out and if you have one that you'd like
to chime in you as a listener, you can chime
in on the YouTube chat ninety three WIBC.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
I have a snowman that has a countdown and he's
my advent snowman and it was given to me twenty
years ago for a present on my favorite day, which
is Winter Solstice, and I've kept it ever since. So
that's that's one we do.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
That's when you do. You know our traditions and they
may be the same for you. There are certain events
that you make sure you get to, whether that is
Yule Tide has become such a family tradition, or it's
Christmas at the Zoo, some of those events become part
of your holiday traditions. Tso we'll be here in a
couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
And that's a show that it is so loud.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
It's fantastic though I mean it, it is brilliant. But
some of those traditions, of course, Kyl.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Well, I'm one that's just starting some traditions. Last year,
I didn't get to put up the tree until Christmas Eve,
so I would like to break that and not make
that a tradition. Okay, we're going to get decorating a
little bit sooner.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Some mentioned on social media was Santa's blanket while the
kids are sleeping Christmas Eve, Santa covers the kids with
a new blanket for them before he leaves, so every
year they'd get into blanket to remember the year.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Pretty cool.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
I do like that.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
A book advent calendar. You can wrap twenty four books
and open one each December night before bed. Cookie Hookie
Day a random weekday in December where you keep the
kids home from school, stay in pj's, and bake all day.
And it was very important to keep them from school
because that is going to be more memorable for them
instead of doing it on.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
A Speaking of traditions, okay, elf on the shelf trying
to Kyla, did you get my um MAIRI I did,
and not trying to get Shandra Bell, who is the
daughter of.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Wait wait wait, can we remind did you say Shandra?
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Is it Shandra?
Speaker 3 (22:10):
I don't know, but it's c h A N D
r A. My mom's name is that Chandra, and she's
gotten it said many different ways, so I was curious.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
I watched a few videos and they called her Shandra,
but we all mess up.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
I'm a very curious.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
We'll have to meet your video. We'd love to have
her on.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Yeah it's okay too and people still call me Stacy.
I'm fine, but I'd like to have her. So maybe
in a couple of maybe next week, we'll get an
opportunity to talk to her, tape her for a conversation.
But I'd love to hear about the creation of Shelf
on the Elf on the Shelf because.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
It's still.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
Huge family, I mean, and what spawned off of Elf
on the Shelf, I mean, all the things that people
go beyond with Elf on the Shelf. It's just it's
truly a great America entrepreneur story.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Remember any of those from being a kid. I have one,
and that it's at the candle light service at our church.
My mom always tried to get the candle lit, you
know we had and she got it all the way
home to light all the candles at the house. But
getting it from the church to the car. You can
get in the garage, know, but getting from the church
to the car, that's what it's difficult. But I remember
(23:20):
her trying to do that and she made it most
of the time, and most of the time.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
That's so funny. Yes, traditions.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
It's fun to share your traditions for those that are
just starting out and making new traditions and being a
part of their family.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
So I can understand why it's trending. It's it's a
it's a cool topic.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
And everybody's got traditions, everybody anything else.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Kylin Matt in the YouTube chat saying hearing Christmas in
Hollis and watching the ref there we go. There's another
idea is December donations under the tree, and that's kind
of perfect for National Secondhand Sunday being this weekend today,
you can get some of your stuff that you second
hit Sunday.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Did you know.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Second Hand Sunday so thrifting or else donate two stores
like Goodwill and Salvation Army instead of the night before Christmas.
They get to take all these toys or clothes and
put them under the tree to donate, and then they
get replaced with the new presents.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
Here's some regional Christmas traditions that I came upon from
coast to coast. We all celebrate differently, right. Colorado invites
skiers in Santa costumes to hit the slopes together.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
That's become a tradition for many.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
In Colorado, California, similar they host Santa surfing competitions where
you're dressed up like Santa during the holidays. The more
regional traditions include Louisiana's log pyramid bonfires all along the
Mississippi to light a path for Papa Noel.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Isn't that fun? For Christmas Eve?
Speaker 3 (24:51):
There's one on Christmas Eve? This commenter says, we bake
a cake for Jesus and at the end of the
night we seem happy Birthday to Jesus. To remind our
children we've done that before too.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Take a birthday cake, yep, for Jesus' birth I love that.
I practice in Minnesota they dine on lu lukefisk at Christmas.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
And is that what it is?
Speaker 2 (25:15):
Lute fisk? No, that's not what I'm saying, lutfisk at Christmas.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
I love it when you speak foreign languages. You're really good.
I didn't know you were bilingual.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
So you want to do a little food news guys.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Hey, oh, Kylan, Well before we get into that, I
think this is interesting, Kylon. You brought this to my
attention December tenth. Beginning December tenth, in Australia. The Australian
government has said that anybody under the age of sixteen
can no longer be on social media with fines up
to fifty about fifty dollars. Well wait a minute, forty
(25:51):
nine point five million Australian dollars.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
What is that?
Speaker 4 (25:54):
I don't know what this is politicians and control.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
So Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, kick, Reddit, threads, TikTok, switch a.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Twitch x and YouTube.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Kids under sixteen can no longer be on that beginning
to December tenth. And parents have been kind of for
this and talking about some of it all really started.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
Parents need to be parents? Will we let Ooh this
gribes me. Why do we have to have the government
step in?
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Well, you can't be a parent and control your kids
and everybody.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
They did have to step in.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
H And kids are already trying to figure out how
to get around it.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Oh well absolutely so, as they do for social media,
they ask.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
They have to be eighteen to enter this website.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Right and anyway.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
The origins of the ban are widely attributed to the
wife of an Australian senior or state premier, who read
The Anxious Generation by a US psychologist and said you
need to do something about this, and they did. Parents
many agreed, and now they're good with this until they're
worried about the summer break. Because the summer break in
(26:56):
the Southern Hemisphere comes very soon and for eight weeks
there will no school, no teachers, and no scrolling, and
so parents are thinking, oh my gosh, what are we
going to do to entertain the kids. So, you know what,
the babysitter's gone now and they're gonna have to figure
out how to entertain kids. Although, come on, kids, you
really you can figure out how to have fun on
your own that doesn't involve guns and drugs.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
That is a huge part of the what I've seen
for raising the next generation is letting them be kids again.
Don't if they're already happy playing in the dirt, let
them play in the dirt. There's nothing wrong with that.
You don't have to make them happier and give them
a tablet calm down. Another band that we're keeping an
eye out on is the character AI. It's looking to
ban teens from talking to its AI chatbots after the
(27:41):
child's suicide, and so there's a lot of conversation around
how to monitor that and let AI just be for
positive which.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
How do you do that too? I mean, how do
you fix that?
Speaker 1 (27:55):
I don't know, but it will be interesting for us
to watch this to see what happens in Australia after
this takes effect December tenth, no more social media kids
age restricted social media platform and that begins sixteen and
under and they're fines being threatened if they catch up.
So we'll see what I know the world is kind
of watching. I think, well, how this is going to
(28:16):
work out?
Speaker 4 (28:16):
I wish I was sixteen years old. I'd love to
be the test case. This really great.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
What do I mean big test case?
Speaker 4 (28:23):
I want to be. I want to assume them. How
dare they stand up their nose for.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
The regulation for the mental health of the youngsters?
Speaker 2 (28:32):
I kind of I'm okay with this, but I'm not
a parent, so I don't know.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
But I'm just anxious to see how this is going
to turn out, if if, if it works.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
The kids are so smart. Did you ever sneak out
of the house? No, you're right, okay, you can sneak
out of the internet.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
There and they're figuring out how to get around some
of this and and they will.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Then that leaves more weight on the parents shoulder, just
as you said. And maybe that's a conversation that we
had too.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
You're going to be such a great mom. It's twelve
forty six when we come back.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
Take your time, Kai Ta Okay, it's.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
The first day ninety three WIBC.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
What a beautiful Thanksgiving weekend. I mean, we jumped into Christmas.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Let me tell you we did go right to Christmas seven, doesn't.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
I mean, it just happens and all of a sudden,
you're you're in.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
How about this weather? See the pile up on I
seventy out by your home. Cars fifty cars amazing. Nobody
was seriously injured in that, but everybody was going pretty slow.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
I guess people would.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
Be pretty grouchy after that one wall.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
That was something, I mean, it was. It was a
pretty blinding snow last night about what eight o'clock, seven
o'clock here at least in Hancock County, but you'd been
experiencing it in Hamilton County, that snow since early morning.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
When I call my dog, I whistled for the dog.
You know, something really simple. The wind was blowing so
wild last night that it whistled, and the dog was
looking for me. The dog was running through the house
looking for me. That's how whistles work.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
Anyway, as you're all traveling, it's a busy, busy day
out there on the roads and in the air, so
take it easy. We've got the colts coming up here.
Kickoff in about what ten minutes or so fifteen minutes?
I guess, I don't know. You know, I don't tell time. Well,
it's twelve fifty three one o'clock. Kickoff, about one o
three they kick off. Anyway, it is time once again,
my friends, for Kylan's food News Good Girl.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Today we're going to be celebrating Indy's first and only
Macha bar come into Indy this week. It's opening on
December fifth. It's right around the corner.
Speaker 4 (30:30):
Well, tell people what macha is because I'd never heard
of it.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Well, on Friday, December fifth, you'll get to try out
this Macha tea. It's green tea. That's a powdered green
tea and they mash it up and then add in your.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
It's a bit earthy, it's a bit if it smells
like and tastes like something that's good for you, well.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
I'd say it's green tea. And this macha bar is
called Recess and they'll be serving ceremonial grade bruise straight
from Japan and especially made for this shop.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
She's just like grass taste it, Denny, it has it
was named after servantes who did mana la mancha.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
No, you're lying, is it true?
Speaker 1 (31:11):
She no?
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Okay, so your face is on YouTube and you just
made this scrunchy face.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
It was, this is just a basic macha late. I've
never tried macha before, and I was crap talking it
the other week because I was Macha's not really my thing,
but I've never tried it. So I was like, we're
going to try it now.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
If you're watching YouTube, she's doing it right now, and
I'll watch your face. She just gave that tongue out
looks do.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
You think of What do you think about it?
Speaker 4 (31:40):
I think it's earthy. I'm not sure i'd go out
to eat for it.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
It's grasp I mean, definite grassy taste to it.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
I'd be careful to a guy.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
I carry a lot of it because they're a macha bar.
You can take this drink and customize it to whatever
you like. And so whether it's like strawberry froth on top.
That's one of the options that they have.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
It's good for you.
Speaker 3 (31:58):
We're going to try it out and see if I
can customize it to a liking. But you can say
in the know about their opening date for Friday by
following them on Instagram at Recess dot social and check
out some of the other drinks that they're going to
be giving. And also in honor of our small business
shout out, we're going to try a basic this and
Denny's mushroom coffee that I am so excited.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
You guys know rise you'd see it in your social
You've been seeing it and you've been hearing nothing but
amazing results from people that drink the mushroom coffee.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
But it's expensive.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
But Denny's been getting it and we've been asking him,
how has it changed your world?
Speaker 4 (32:36):
Well, now you get to know these were packets that
came along with it. And what I will say is
that you have to it's a different taste and you
have to continue to stir it because it will come
out a solution at the bottom. And it's a really
tasty mud. I call it mud, but it's very it's
very tasty. But I put some sugar and then or
not sugar. But I put kerry.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
I didn't give you any sugar. This is just straight
out the bag.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
No, I like to we wi't really ever add sugar
to anything.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
Well that if you put honey in hot water, it
ruins all the nutritional value of it. I've never heard this.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Week, and you too, have you heard that? Don't tell people.
Speaker 3 (33:12):
Thanksgiving leftovers are going to go bad here soon? Make
sure make sure you're eating them up.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
And today we saw use it.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
You can take your stuffing, mash it all together and
make it into a waffle and then pour your syrup or.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
They did gravy.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
They put cnberries. I don't know about that.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
The cranberry idea of it, but yeah, put that in
your waffle. I and we were watching that on TV.
And that's not bad either. Also, I heard about dumb
Thanksgiving bombs, which are a biscuit. Split your biscuit in
half before you get your biscuit out of the two cranberry,
your your turkey, your leftover turkey, your cranberry, even a
little gravy if you want, put the lid of your
(33:51):
again not baked yet?
Speaker 5 (33:53):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Is it time?
Speaker 1 (33:55):
We have to go biscuit and it turns out it's
like a little biscuit bomb.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
All the goodness and the thanksgiving goodness. This is not bad, Denny.
I would buy this Rise Mushrooms.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
Happy birthday to Jamie Carter, my favorite south Side plumber.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Okay, now we do we have to go?
Speaker 3 (34:10):
Yes, go golds Go.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Caper holds all the things, all the things. Thanks for
joining us. Be safe out there.
