O Presidente norte-americano, Donald Trump, admite querer enviar cidadãos norte-americanos para as cadeias de alta segurança em El Salvador, cujo chefe de Estado, Nayib Bukele, visitou esta segunda-feira a Casa Branca. É uma escalada significativa do recurso às prisões do país da América Central por parte dos Estados Unidos.
No mesmo encontro, Trump e Bukele recusaram libertar Kilmar Abrego Garcia, um cidadão salvadorenho que residia legalmente nos EUA e que foi enviado para El Salvador por um “erro administrativo” reconhecido em tribunal. A recusa colide com uma ordem do Supremo Tribunal dos EUA e é, também, uma escalada no conflito entre o Governo e a justiça.
Por fim, intensifica-se também o ataque da Administração Trump à autonomia das universidades. Mas, desta vez, com Harvard a recusar ceder às exigências do Governo republicano.
