Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome back to the Football Today podcast, brought to you
by Betfair, who are on your side this EPL season.
I'm your host, Liam mccally and also known as the
Stats Guy, also known as Ben Chillwell that started last week.
I'm here as always by Marcus Barzan. He's got some
speed lines in his head. He's ready to go a Marcus,
I'm going very good. Internationals gone, Thank god. What does
(00:23):
the world come to this early international break? No players
getting injured? Left Ron Attender, which we'll touch on. There's
too many too much football, as I think we've said
for a lot of things happen with internationals. Just get
rid of internationals. Have the world keep the World Cup
and everything else is going. I don't know how they're
going to qualify for that one. Today we're going to
cover yeah, the top football and EPL news, our best
Betfair back or lay match bets, which we're going to
(00:45):
get into. Are very excited for that bit of trivia
with Olivia. I just realized that rhymes. There we go
and I finished with some quick fire tips for epl's
match Week four, so we're very excited about that. Before
we start, make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel,
the Football Today Podcast, follow us on Socials, Football Today
AU on Tiko and Football Today Australia on Instagram and Facebook.
A smashed it all right there, All right, let's get
(01:06):
right into it. Around the grounds. A lot's happened, international break,
international injuries. We've got a few to talk about him.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
There's a couple of my head that I've heard about. Yes,
two big ones my nodyguard for Arsenal. Oh yeah, of
course coming back. So it looks like with the North
London Derby this weekend him and now Declan Rice, we'll
touch on that.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, feature that is brutal that obviously Declan Rice got
a red card which is pretty funny that we talked
about last week. And yeah, oder Gard that's that's not
a good looking midfor nowother one for me just the
city Nathan Akay. Yeah, defense as well hasn't been starting lately.
I don't think as he started this season.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
But he's a good verse toile defender. He's trust's worthy
always seven hour ten. You can play, yeah, left back,
center back, anywhere across the back four yep, so.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Not fair course. Yeah, talking about Declan Rice. He scored
against England, obviously a former sorry scored against Ireland while
playing for England. I'm getting him confused because he did
start with our Ireland two irishman's score for England against Ireland.
Can you.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
If I was in that crowd, It's like Melbourne Derby scenes,
I'm storming the pitch.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
And still Yeah, obviously you've got Jack Realish was in
the Ireland team back in the day and so it
was Declan Rice. I saw they held up snakes snake
tifo for the two players before they came out. I
love that Ila were never going to win this even
if those two weren't weren't playing. But the fact that
the two Irish guys scored in a two nil win
against Ireland is it's pretty pretty brutal for him.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
They were seventy percent of the English team even English. Yeah,
so they're just still in other countries or they've actually
represented other countries.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Well, to be fair, we can't talk as in Australia.
Half our team scott English, Yeah, English Scottish. Yeah, so
we can't talk. But yeah, that was pretty funny. Next
one I want to touch on I'm not Harry Potter.
Now that was funny. If I'm just saying that you
would go. I don't think a Premier league coach would
say this, Yes they did. Eric ten Hard. He goes
in in the in an interview where after the game
(02:59):
last week two weeks ago, going I'm the Harry Potter,
I'm not magic. I can't fix this team right away.
Your job is to fix the team. Obviously you should
be talking about magic because they are producing nothing. And
you imagine he said right.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Away, look like you've been there for three years now. Yeah,
he's just come to cross as an even bigger mug than.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
He already was. Yeah, a muggle. I think he is
a muggle because he's definitely not any Harry Potter. Yeah.
That sort of just brings up the chat of yeah,
should be there, should he not, which we talked about
last week. I think those trophies are just painting over
the cracks of what's going on in Manchester. I don't
think anyone wants him to be there, except for Manchester
in order fans. Do you think all their fans do though?
Speaker 2 (03:36):
I don't think the majority of fans still believe in
ten Hag and the ten Hark project, which I don't
know what they're saying. No, But then again who is
really out there to scoop up as a manager.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Or true true next one around the grounds, Chelsea might
move away from Stamford Bridge. I can't believe I'm saying
that as a Chelsea fan. You're a Chelsea fan as well.
This would be brutal and just all that history at
Stanford Bridge. They're trying to increase to is it forty
thousand capacity? I'm pretty sure it's.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Currently forty thousands more they want they want to increase
it to more than forty thousand. They want like seventy
thousand capacity stadium, which means.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Which makes sense, Yeah, Earl Lane, Earl's Court cool, which
is not that far from West Stanford Bridge actually close.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
It's actually better to get to for Chelsea fans. Stamford
Bridges fuddly enough. That's only a temporary move if they
do do that, because I remember they want they threatened
to move away from Stamford Bridge and then.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Chelsea fans weren't happy. Yeah yeah, and protests outside the ground,
so that might happen again. But I do understand it
because you've got one of the biggest clubs in the world,
whereas you compare that to some of the other big stadiums.
Forty thousand isn't that much. Yeah, you're seeing so much
money from low Mash the revie, but then you got
the tradition and things like that that stadium and they've
been say they're going to upgrade that stadium since so
(04:48):
I think twenty eighteen twenty nine. M was like when
they say they're going to kick it off, that didn't happen.
So I don't know what's going to happen there, but
I think there'll be some Chelsea fans writing if that
that's get kick kicks off?
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yeah, especially because I think you can as a fan
you can own a part of the pitch for Bridge, yea,
you can earn the grass. Yeah, so there's a bunch
of fans who own the Chelsea.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
I didn't even know the Bridge pitch. That sounds like
you can like become a lord if you own a
bit of grass in Scotland Stamford Bridge. I don't I
have to look into that. Finally, as Ozzie, we'll talk
about the soccer. Who's the men's national team lost to
Bahrain last week in the international break. Then I'm like,
all right, all right, soccer is in Australia we get
(05:29):
to play Indonesia. That was in Australia against Bahrain. That
was brutal, all right, that was just a while one off.
We'll say. Then we play Indonesia, who are what one
hundred and twenty third ranked in the world or something
like one hundred and thirty third even worse, and we
don't even score a goal against them, Neil Old draw.
So we haven't scored a goal against Bahrain and Indonesia.
What is going on in men's football? Mark, there's no clue.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
The two easiest teams in our qualifying group for the
World Cup China, Saudi Arabia Japan, and I think that's
it as the other teams, so there were the easiest ones.
And you know, we're gonna listen, take a point, not
very good signs and a lot a lot of calls
for Graham Arnold out.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, myself, I think Ozzie should yes steer away from
ten Haaga and just get onto the Graham Arnold out
because you've been saying this for a long time. We
got a little bit lucky in the World Cup, have
performed well in the big tournaments, but at this rate
we're not even going to make any of the big tournaments,
which is brutal for a team. I think on paper,
who is pretty good. You've got Ira Kunda coming through,
You've got some young guys coming through. We were twenty
fourth ranked in the world, which is great comparing to
(06:26):
these nations.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Bahrain well I mentioned we're mid sixtieth YEP and then
obviously Indonesia and thirty third.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah. Yeah. The only good thing about Indonesia would be
that Bali await trip if they if they ever played
like victory back and I was talking about next time
there's Bali United versus Australian team, We're going to that
to admitted content, I reckon, all right, that's around the ground.
I don't want to talk about the soccer. Who's anymore.
Let's get into our best backo lay bets for the
EPR for match week four thanks to Betfair, the only
place to back a lay bet in the EPL. So
(06:55):
very excited to work with Betfair on this one, and
there's some really good odds here. So I'll start with you,
ma us, what's your maybe your favorite back bet this week?
Speaker 2 (07:03):
My favorite back bet would be probably just Aston Villa. Yeah,
I think that's Calm against Everton I think that'll be
a comfortable victory a dollar fifty four.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
I believe it's at Villa Park as well. It is.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yeah, so how they haven't been great to start the season.
Villa they haven't been a bad either, but Everton have
been atrocious. So that's one to just right away. Yeah,
I think dollar you can just lock that in. That
could be a dollar one in my book up and
we're gonna that's gonna haunt us.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
I reckon saying that, but surely, surely, yeah, I'll I'll
go my other back one. I'm going to back both
teams to score in Brighton versu Ipswich. I know that
sounds a little bit risky, but it's a dollar ninety
with Betfair. Brighton averaging two goals per game. They're absolutely
flying similar to last season. Their first like sort of
ten games of the last couple of season have just
been awesome. When they've started again really well Ipswich. They've
(07:48):
scored against Fulham and man City the last two games.
A lot of teams like to play really attacking and
it's which I know they're not going too well, but
they do with Fulham and they've scored a couple of
goals last couple of games. I think both teams to score.
Brighton will play really attacking to try and get like
a three to one win. I don't even mind the
over two and a half goals, which is a different bet,
but I'm going both teams to score. People might go
Ipswich but scored against man City, so look.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
They definitely in the back of the Yeah. Talented like
lead to lap who was formerly the last game. Yeah,
Samy Schmodis who scores bags and goals in the Championship
every year.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Yeah, they can definitely fin in the back of the yaes.
I'm definitely staying away from switch to win, but just
in terms of get on the score sheet, and then
I think Bryon might score at least three themselves. So
both teams to score there, what's rather better? Back here?
Speaker 2 (08:28):
You know, I'm going to find a bit of value here. Okay,
back bet and I'm going to go. I actually really
fancy the draw between Wolves and Newcastle really Okay, Yeah,
I just haven't even though Newcastle have got seven points
in the first three games or I haven't been impressed
with them.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
They've been a little bit shaky compared to their form, suggests.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
They played Southampton and then they will pour against Bournemouth.
They're lucky to draw that game, and then they shouldn't
have beaten.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
To the rest was a better team.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
So yeah, okay, yeah, they haven't been great and mullin
U is a tough place to go, like forget the
Chelsea picture even before that Chelsea picture six. Yeah, that's
why I'm a bit worried about this bet. But I
don't don't mind. I think I think Gary on New
is a decent coach. Defensively, I can I can keep
them stable for one one nil no okay?
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Yeah, so yeah, what's that three dollars? Don't mind that,
all right? My other one I'm going to back is
I can't. I was saying this on the podcast. Every
time I say the words Chelsea to win on a podcast,
we lose. It's going to change, starting with this party
yp with Betfair. Chelsea head to head versus Bournemouth at
two dollars and eight cents. Chelsea unbeaten in their last
five against Bournemouth. Last time we did go to is
(09:33):
it Vitality Stadium is Bournemouth? Yeah, I'm pretty sure this
fatality stadium was at nil or draw. But I just
think Chelsea have a bit more firepower and attack. If
Chelsea get a couple of goals, I don't back Bournemouth
to the Cherryes to score a couple of go They
got no Selanky. They only reason they won last week
was just because Everton forgot how to play football when
they were down to Neil and Naty six minute. Chelsea
(09:53):
are a much better team. As a Chelsea fan, I'm
going we should be penciling this in for a win.
I know the last couple of seasons you can't say
that two dollars and eight cents. Yeah, Betfeld, I'm really
keen to back that. Bournemouth have a good coach.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
I have a good manager, yeah, which is a little
a little bit more troublesome. I remember two years ago,
two seasons ago when we had Joel Phelix on loan
where we finished like twelfth that season. We actually beat
Bournemouth at the vitality we did in that ground, and
that sort of goes towards the end of the season
really spurred us on to the end of the campaigns.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Yeah, I thinfinitely win there. I think, yeah, big win here.
We'd bring a lot of confidence to Chelsea, and I
think we can at yeah, two dolls and eighteen. I
just want to take that on. I think it should
usually be a lot less, just because Chelsea is so inconsistent,
but I think we can bounce back after the Palace loss.
All right, having a look at the other side, what's
your favorite bet to lay? So going against? Yeah, some team.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
I think we've we've mentioned this and I probably stole
it from your in Aumoust laying Arsenal at two dollars
thirty four against Tottenham or obviously the Tottenham's ground. So
we want Tottenham to win all the draw for that
to happen at two dollars thirty four.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
So she had call you crazy. But there's a few
injuries going around, a.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Few big outs for Arsenal, A couple begins for Tottenham,
Mickey Van Deven and Dominic Selankia back for to Okay,
outgoes oder Guard and Rice Arsenal. So their midfield depth
is very lacking. They probably wanted to bringts from striker.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Yeah, so with no Oder Garden, Rice, who's there starting midfield?
Do you think I think it's I think.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
It's going to be Georgino part and then Havertz at Camp.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Okay, that's not too bad, but it sort of tinkers
with their structure and then the.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Front three probably Martin Elli, Trossad Socker. Yeah that's not
too bad. But yeah, I don't I don't mind that
Arsenal because I think it could be a draw. I
don't think it's going to be an Arsenal win. I
wouldn't mind it, just backing the draw, but I'm laying
against Arsenal.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Don't mind that.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
I wonder what over two and a half goals is
as well. Yeah, we can have a look at that.
Last season the high scoring games, both of them. Yeah,
Arsenal won three to two. The other game was the
T two draw as well, so they both both went
well over the two and a half goals.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
I'll quickly have a look at that. The over two
and a half goals with bet Fair for low here
we go. So we got a dollar sixty two, so
that's actually not too bad if you want to, you
want to have a look at that one as well
on Betford to back that one. All right, my lay
bet my first one. I got two. I'm loading up
here this week Fulham at two dollars fifty eight against
west Ham, So I know this is a risky one.
I'm saying that west Ham are going to draw a win.
(12:18):
West Ham haven't been in the best form in terms
of their points on the table, but they beat Palace away,
which I don't think is any easy feat. Salos Park
is really hard place to play at. They hit the
bar twice against Manchester City. Yep. Like I know, it
was a three one loss, but they actually could have
been draw. If Harlan wasn't playing that game, they could
have won. Like Harland just pulled some goals out of
out of nowhere. He's an absolute cheat code, so I
(12:40):
think they generally could have played a lot better against
City and then Fulham have only won one of their
last four home meetings against west Ham, so I'm leaning
towards west Ham in this one. So that's why I'm
laying Fulham at two dollars fifty eight. The other one
I'm going to go with is laying Leicester City at
six dollars, which I was surprised about. Verse Crystal Palace,
another risky one. Palace have won for the last five
(13:01):
home games. Leicester haven't been in Palace at Salehurst Parks
in twenty nine eight. So I know they obviously won
in the league last season, they were in the league
years before that. But six bucks, yeah for just a
palace or draws. Laying Lester, I think is a really
good bet. They've struggled so far coming into this season.
They've scored a few goals, Lester, I just think they're
structure on the road as well. On the road, Salehurst
Park is a really hard place to play. Christal Pas
(13:22):
haven't even hit their sort of strapshed. I think Mateta
hasn't even really scored in the league. He's scored a
couple in the in the EFL, couple things like that,
so I think he's going to fire up and then
has been really good. So I'm going to back. Yeah,
palace there, but laying Lester at six bucks like that
plenty of value. Yeah, all right, I think that's it.
That's our back old lay bets for match Week four
of the EPL, thanks to Betfair, the only place to
(13:42):
back and lay bet on the EPL this season. All right,
bit of fun here. We've gone from some yeah, bit
of serious stuff with the betting, but that was really
a bit of fun. BET's have a bit of fun
here trivia with Olivia that just rolls up the tongue
very nicely. What do you got for us this week?
Olivia with some epl trivia? How many goals has Harry
Kane in scored for England? I reckon, we have like
two goes each and we'll there we go. What do
(14:04):
I know? One hundreds cap? So let's see one hundreds cap? Yeah? True,
I'm going to say, is this way too high? I
was going to say, sixty eight? Oh, that's close. I
was going I was going to go on the sixty
four leam, you're actually right? Sixty eight? Yeah, I don't know.
Sixty that's very good. Yes, go on. I saw that
(14:25):
start long ago because he overtook someone recently. Oh geez,
I did not think I was going to get out.
There we go very good. I was like that. I
knew it was like between sixty and seventy. I don't
know what we said. This man doesn't no ball. There
we go. There we go a lot of people, but
there we go. I'm happy with that one. I don't
know fucking contain myself after that. I might have to reset. No,
(14:46):
j was good. Let's go all right. Quick Fire Match
Week four, predictions to finish off the show, I'll read
them out and then we'll both give our predictions. Southampton
versus Manchester United.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Everything in me wants to go Southampton a draw, but
I have to go to Manchester United just that bad.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
I'm going to draw because I like that. Man you
have been so bad and it's the funniest result. Is
the funnest result. Next one, Liverpool verse Nuts. Surely Liverpool,
I yeah, Liverpool. I haven't conceded a goal, haven't considered
a goal yet exactly, so I think we're gonna get Liverpool.
They had a very easy started the season though, Yeah,
but still even Man City have concerned a few goals,
so that's a bit of an interesting Yeah, all right,
(15:27):
Man City versus Brentford City City easyland Hatrick question Mark?
What for three in the first four weeks? You know?
Speaker 2 (15:36):
I heard somewhere that if he continues on the trendies
on now, he will end the season with eighty eight goals.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Yeah, what's the rest? The record is like forty.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Beat the record like no long ago it was like
thirty six, right, yeah, and.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Got seven in three games. That's a great year in
the afar. That would have been the common metal in
the Oh oh my god, Fallen versus west Ham. That's
a tough one, it is. Uh you love a draw usually, yeah, back,
I'm going west Ham. I think they're the better team there.
Crystal Palace VERSU Leicester Palace. I'll go Palace yep, Brighton
verse ipswich Brighton surely Brighton three something. Yeah, they can's
(16:17):
got a goal, but they're not going They're not going
to get that close. Aston Villa verse Everton, as you
said already, Villa back in aston Villa all the way.
Hill Park Bournemouth versus Chelsea. Chelsea backed Chelsea in the
fair bets, so let's get around them there. Let's go
Chelsea Tottenham verus Arsenal the big North London Derby the
only good game from the weekend. I know there's a
(16:38):
lot of one sided games here, so make sure you
watch eleven pm Australian Time, which is beautiful, very good
on a Sunday night. Yeah, prime who have work on
the Monday, Well, you don't sleep on Sunday nights. When
the APLS going to fair, it's tough. I'm gonna I'm
going to go draw draw, I will go Tottenham. Why not.
I reckon they're going to get a win and just
been coppying a lot of sticks listening to ours. Yeah,
(17:01):
come in, yeah behind me. Last one Wolves versus Newcastle
I think is a really tough one as well, a
top one as well. But I love a draw. So
you've had about six years. I will go to Newcastle.
I don't think Wolves. They lost to six to Chelsea.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Come on, like they've they've got something there, They've got
something they do. They got like they've got Kunya who's
a baller. Offensively, they're a bit so strong killman.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Yeah, I don't know. I think they cooked. I think
I'm going to go in Newcastle. The shack Pastric Patrick.
How about that he might not be playing?
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Apparently he told people who have him, He told people
who have him n.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
FBO to possibly trade him out. He said that how
many actually that's that's another topic. How many like Premier
League players have fantasy? Because Harlan told all of them,
all these YouTubers in a video to captain him. So
I reckon Harlan plays eighty five percent of them? Play fair?
You reckon? Yeah? For sure? Do you reckon? They would
always pick themselves. That's a bit cocky.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
I don't know, you kind of you kind of have
to yeah in a way. Yeah, put yourself captain everywhere. Yeah,
that'd be good ass, that would be a good fun.
Well not if you're like a really crap player. Anyway,
it's better to back yourself in fantasy than betting, which
Ivan Tooni and Centdra to know true.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Yes you can, you can do fantasy, but don't bet
on your own yourself. But we can have a bet
with Betfair. That's all good. And that was out of
quick fire match week for predictions, so we might have
to read the name that just to match Week four
predictions next tik. That's the final whistle for Football Today,
brought to you by Betfair. Check out some of the
fun and football the videos we're doing all over the socials.
We're doing some epl bit of Matilda's for you assies
out there as well. Check out all the socials. Send
(18:30):
it any questions, any comments we'll read out on the show.
I think that's it. Thank you very much Olivia for
the trivia question that just rolls off the tongue. I'm
very nicely every time. Thanks Gerald, Thanks Marcus, Thanks that's go.
