obviously that people were talking about. I think I just

ticket to start with. Obviously, a three zero loss the
other day, the first game for the Matilda's a six
or five wins, so there's just been a roller coaster
every weekend for Matilda's fans.

Yeah, that first game was rough. Look, I thought we
could have, you know, come out strong.

I didn't.

It wasn't strong that we're going to get the win
against Germany. But I didn't think we were going to

That was filthy. But at least there's lots of goals.

sacked their coach for the drone controversy. So we talked
about that last time. Apparently she's a bit unlucky because
it wasn't all her idea. But I feel like someone's
going to get in trouble for apparently that.

then Germany lost to the USA four to one. They
are top of Group B, which is attilies group. I'm
a bit worried USA last World Cup of very average,
but they look back to the.

I'm worried, like I think Emma Hayes has really come
in there and.

He's a freak coach.

Yeah, put some new life into them, I guess. But yeah,
I thought, honestly, I thought Germany would top the group
and I thought the USA, yeah, would come in second,
Matilda's third, depending on how it all went. But yeah,
USA looking amazing, which is scary for us because we
did not do well against Germany.

Yeah, we might maybe we should just get a drone
that type like US USA on it, so somehow they
get the maybe we're doing a drone this is USA
tactic there. Yeah, they look awesome, so I'm a little
bit worried about us playing their next game. But we'll
see how we go. Hopefully just fix up the defense
as defense.

And put Michelle Hayman on to stop.

Yes, we will get into that all right, Game one rap,
We're going to do this a little bit quicker than
the second game. This was from a few days ago
and we lost, so we just saw losers Australia Neil
Germany three. I just wrote this at the top watching
this game until he didn't look like themselves. Really sloppy
passing and no connection at all, probably from midfield to
the final thod Do you think.

There was just no connection.

Every pass chain they try created just didn't work, always
getting stopped. We saw jewel Brand at jeweler Brand in there. Yep,
she was insane. Yeah she was running the show. Amazing
dribbling skills and pace for Germany. But yeah, I just
don't They just did not look like themselves at all.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
It's like like they've played a lot of football together,
this this squad, and it's like they were playing together
for the first time. I've never seen the Matilda's play
like that, especially with this team.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, I don't know if there was Maybe Sam Kerr
wasn't there that. No, but you know, Seph Catley is
an amazing leader for the team and she was good.
But yeah, she wasn't great, So I think that really
put them on the back foot.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Was not good.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
No, it wasn't good. Even the tactics by Germany. They've
been starting Alexandra Popp, who's I think a third leading
goal scrow all time in midfield. She was like an
offensive midfield roll at times. So that's how while they're going,
they just know where their players can play and things
like that. I would never have put her in midfield,
but it worked really well. Gorey was really good defensively
as a CDM role.

Had to have her back after her injury spell. Yeah,
she's great for the team and I think she's just
really good with the girl She gets along with them,
especially for those younger players. Yeah, good leader, good guidance
and yeah she was great.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Now, Yeah, I love Gary. I think that didn't help
us as well. I feel like we lost a bit
of our shape when she went off. I wouldn't maybe
because she's coming back from injury, but I wouldn't have
personally taken.

I would have started Michelle Hayman as well.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yes, yeah, Haymond as soon as she came on looked
really dangerous. She had a few shots on goal. Obviously
we didn't create that many chances the Matildas.

But I love Vine, but I don't think she should
be starting as well. She's definitely an impact sub.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, she she has an experience, but we need those
strong leaders one of the stuff.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yeah, even though it was a while ago, Vine was
coming off the bench as an impact sub in the
world perfectly. It was a great range. Obviously we had
Sam Kerr then, Yeah, but you've got Hayman that you
just need to finish her rather than Vine can probably
set up a finisher.

And then the other one was jerman I Roden here
they had two headed goals. Heading goals really need to
cover better, as we saw in the second game as well.

just dreaming, you weren't. Matilda's won this six five eleven goals.
One of the craziest games at all time. Movie. There

who I topped up before the tournament started, that's her

The first goal, I think that was the best of
all the eleven where she scored.

probably in the right spot, just hit the bottom part

Carpenter was the only player back there against Barbara Banda,

It was amazing fight though I know that everyone would go, oh,
it is a worry we should be but the fact
that we got over the line is just unbelievable. Credit
to the fight, I'd say of Steph Catley who scored
two goals.

She's incredible.

She really picked it up as the team leader when
she had to. And yes, never say di attitude, they've
always had. Yeah, good on your Steph. And yeah when
she's taken that penalty, and like set pieces, you know
she's going to do.

Yeah. Absolutely. And then another one, Hayman. We've said this
all tournaments so far. She came on, instant impact, scored
a goal. It was can as an own goal, a
little back heel. I think they should probably count that
one as a goal. Usually if it's on target, they
din't have it. But definitely awesome efforts. She came on
and then she scores the ninth minute went and she
should be starting Olivia.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
She should be starting. I just love her story as well.
Out of the squad. Internationally, she hasn't played in the
World clip. I retired from she retired from international football.
She's just playing in the A League. She's not playing overseas,
you know, for the big club like Chelsea or Arsenal.
She's really stepped up for the Matildas, and yeah, amazing
to see as a leader. And yeah, great, great story
for the ages.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Of Yeah, she was going absolutely nuts. I saw her
get around her partner afterwards. It was just it was beautiful.
She was she was really good. We did get a
little bit lucky. I didn't mention that with Steph Catley's goal,
like you said about the Brunswick Local sort of team
that goalkeeping the goalkeeper before the tournament started. Zambia's team
overall is actually I like their team. They've got good
and Dangie the most expensive player in the world, she's awesome.

You've got a few other players, obviously Barbara Banda. Then
midfield's okay, the goalkeeper doesn't up to local level. I
reckon before the thing who wants to beg goalkeeper had
to big out of it.

It was giving local footage. When everyone's like, oh, no,
one wants to be goalkeeper. She's like, well, fin, I'll
do it.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
I'm only saying this because the main one, Steph Cutley,
took the freaking she's went up for like a sort
of footy mark and just gone straight. Yeah, but that
was not good and it might have cost them the
game or it would have probably been a drawer.

To be honest, as a whole, I will say the
Matilda's it might be a bit on a fraud.

so I think you already mentioned this, But is that
do you think that's the biggest warrior Olivia? That the defense? Offensively,
all right, we didn't grow against Germany, but we know
we have some done offensive players. The defense is the worry.

Germany's defense is quite strong, so didn't expect to get
a high scoring result first game warming up into the
tournament as well.

That's just a worry. The defense.

I don't we can't be having that, especially going into
the game like against the US, and if we do
make it to the next stage, if there's no defense,
we're not getting it through to like the medal stages.

No, no, I agree. It's weird as well. You've got
obviously Alone and Kennedy Claire Hunt, who were maybe I
was gonna say, in their prime. They're pretty much their prime.
They've been dominating overseas as well, in the WSL and
in the frenchis League and things like that. That's really surprising
because in the World Cup defensively were great, they were great. Yeah,
I just I think they might be becoming a little bit
too attacking. Greg, you said they're just pushing a bit

too high. Maybe they were a bit too cocky against Zambia.

I feel like she's getting up towards we're having like

don't need to change the actual players, just the mindset.

you should be on the front foot at half time.

are saying.

Yeah, well, I think there were some reporters that went
a little bit too far, Like I don't think any
of these players are ahead of themselves, but they're not
cocky and things like that. They're very ground, very humble.
Just I think the way they're playing is just a
little bit off and they just haven't really settled themselves.
So I think that's that's the main.

Making it out of the group is the first focus.
And then yeah, game by game, even if they make
it to the Semis, and I think that it's not
going to be a successful tournament. They don't want to
finish fourth or lower because we've had that before.

I see gold at the start, but that's definitely not
happy anymore. I think I'm looking at the metal chances.
I'd be saying US, even though Germany lost to the US,
I'd still say they're going to be right up there.

Yeah, US, Spain, Germany the best three at the moment. Japan,
I reckon is a sneaky one, and then France obviously
the home team and they've got really good teams, so.

Yes to being is still a medal chance. But I
think we need to draw to the US somehow, somehow,
because they just beat Germany four one. If we draw
to the US it or just catapult a bit of confidence.
I think that'll help us out for the rest of the.

Tournament, because yeah, even though they got the win last night,
I wouldn't say that's a big confidence boost conceiving five
goals against the sixty fourth rank team.

definitely the goal. They'll be thinking they want to win,

other day, the first game for the Matilda's a six
or five wins, so there's just been a roller coaster
every weekend for Matilda's fans.

could have, you know, come out strong.

I didn't.

It wasn't strong that we're going to get the win
against Germany. But I didn't think we were going to
concede three goals and not even score one.

that's really to win.

We didn't even get a goal, so get a goal.
That was filthy. But at least there's lots of goals.

In the Yeah, and then that game was against Zambia
was just a roller coaster ride.

Well, we'll break those games down. It just didn't after
we do the news ticket here. Next one, Canada officially
sacked their coach for the drone controversy. So we talked
about that last time. Apparently she's a bit unlucky because
it wasn't all her idea. But I feel like someone's
going to get in trouble for apparently that.

Is also the first time he's done.

should get to qualify the Matildas should get the third

we go against the US.

eight of the twelve teams go through Canada. Currently third
or even on zero point, I think because it still

have to talk about them because we have to play
the next game. Obviously Matilda's. We lost to Germany three nil,
then Germany lost to the USA four to one. They
are top of Group B, which is attilies group. I'm
a bit worried USA last World Cup of very average,
but they look back to the.

I'm worried, like I think Emma Hayes has really come
in there and.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
He's a freak coach.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, put some new life into them, I guess. But yeah,
I thought, honestly, I thought Germany would top the group
and I thought the USA, yeah, would come in second,
Matilda's third, depending on how it all went. But yeah,
USA looking amazing, which is scary for us because we
did not do well against Germany.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, we might maybe we should just get a drone
that type like US USA on it, so somehow they
get the maybe we're doing a drone this is USA
tactic there. Yeah, they look awesome, so I'm a little
bit worried about us playing their next game. But we'll
see how we go. Hopefully just fix up the defense
as defense.

And put Michelle Hayman on to stop.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yes, we will get into that all right, Game one rap,
We're going to do this a little bit quicker than
the second game. This was from a few days ago
and we lost, so we just saw losers Australia Neil
Germany three. I just wrote this at the top watching
this game until he didn't look like themselves. Really sloppy
passing and no connection at all, probably from midfield to
the final thod Do you think.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
There was just no connection.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Every pass chain they try created just didn't work, always
getting stopped. We saw jewel Brand at jeweler Brand in there. Yep,
she was insane. Yeah she was running the show. Amazing
dribbling skills and pace for Germany. But yeah, I just
don't They just did not look like themselves at all.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
It's like like they've played a lot of football together,
this this squad, and it's like they were playing together
for the first time. I've never seen the Matilda's play
like that, especially with this team.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Yeah, I don't know if there was Maybe Sam Kerr
wasn't there that. No, but you know, Seph Catley is
an amazing leader for the team and she was good.
But yeah, she wasn't great, So I think that really
put them on the back foot.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Was not good.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
No, it wasn't good. Even the tactics by Germany. They've
been starting Alexandra Popp, who's I think a third leading
goal scrow all time in midfield. She was like an
offensive midfield roll at times. So that's how while they're going,
they just know where their players can play and things
like that. I would never have put her in midfield,
but it worked really well. Gorey was really good defensively
as a CDM role.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Had to have her back after her injury spell. Yeah,
she's great for the team and I think she's just
really good with the girl She gets along with them,
especially for those younger players. Yeah, good leader, good guidance
and yeah she was great.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Now, Yeah, I love Gary. I think that didn't help
us as well. I feel like we lost a bit
of our shape when she went off. I wouldn't maybe
because she's coming back from injury, but I wouldn't have
personally taken.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I would have started Michelle Hayman as well.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Yes, yeah, Haymond as soon as she came on looked
really dangerous. She had a few shots on goal. Obviously
we didn't create that many chances the Matildas.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
But I love Vine, but I don't think she should
be starting as well. She's definitely an impact sub.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, she she has an experience, but we need those
strong leaders one of the stuff.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yeah, even though it was a while ago, Vine was
coming off the bench as an impact sub in the
world perfectly. It was a great range. Obviously we had
Sam Kerr then, Yeah, but you've got Hayman that you
just need to finish her rather than Vine can probably
set up a finisher.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah.

And then the other one was jerman I Roden here
they had two headed goals. Heading goals really need to
cover better, as we saw in the second game as well.
Set pieces, we'll go to a pretty tall team you see,
to stand in front of them.

They're usually pretty good at that.

Yeah, usually van Egmulon and she's quite tall as well.
Good defensively there in the in the box. But yeah
I didn't have.

nil that one, which was brutal for all of us
as he's waking up at three and I was like,

Watching with England in the Euros and it's a repeat, Yeah.

of the match, I'll say just overall would probably be
Duela Branch. She got a goal, she set up another one.
She's so tall, but her dribbling skills is amazing. I
love watching her play.

craziest games of all time. I woke up this morning
it was like, yes, surely that wasn't it was eleven goals.
If you did watch it and you thought you were
just dreaming, you weren't. Matilda's won this six five eleven goals.
One of the craziest games at all time. Movie. There

I was comparing that to a local game down at Brunswick.

coming off our semi finals in the World Cup. Yes,

here really poor defensively, just made for a goldfest. Barbara Banda,
who I topped up before the tournament started, that's her
third Olympic hatrick. She's just an absolute free exampray does
Zambia legend, copper queen legend. She's got another hat trick.
The first goal, I think that was the best of
all the eleven where she scored.

In forty seconds in way outside the box, mckenzianna was
probably in the right spot, just hit the bottom part
of the bar. It went straight in.

just absolutely awesome raining goals. Zambia just allowed too much space,
I think, and that's how they got up five too.

More like what's going on? Yeah? Five too? We can
never let Zambie get up. That's unbelievable, Like.

Why like there was everyone was pushing forward too much,
not covering the back. I think at one point Ali
Carpenter was the only player back there against Barbara Banda,
which is like, how is that gonna?

Like, yeah, yeah, I don't know, really, yeah, we're really worrisome.
It was amazing fight though I know that everyone would go, oh,
it is a worry we should be but the fact
that we got over the line is just unbelievable. Credit
to the fight, I'd say of Steph Catley who scored
two goals.

She's incredible.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
She really picked it up as the team leader when
she had to. And yes, never say di attitude, they've
always had. Yeah, good on your Steph. And yeah when
she's taken that penalty, and like set pieces, you know
she's going to do.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Great off those.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
Yeah. Absolutely. And then another one, Hayman. We've said this
all tournaments so far. She came on, instant impact, scored
a goal. It was can as an own goal, a
little back heel. I think they should probably count that
one as a goal. Usually if it's on target, they
din't have it. But definitely awesome efforts. She came on
and then she scores the ninth minute went and she
should be starting Olivia.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
She should be starting. I just love her story as well.
Out of the squad. Internationally, she hasn't played in the
World clip. I retired from she retired from international football.
She's just playing in the A League. She's not playing overseas,
you know, for the big club like Chelsea or Arsenal.
She's really stepped up for the Matildas, and yeah, amazing
to see as a leader. And yeah, great, great story
for the ages.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Of Yeah, she was going absolutely nuts. I saw her
get around her partner afterwards. It was just it was beautiful.
She was she was really good. We did get a
little bit lucky. I didn't mention that with Steph Catley's goal,
like you said about the Brunswick Local sort of team
that goalkeeping the goalkeeper before the tournament started. Zambia's team
overall is actually I like their team. They've got good
and Dangie the most expensive player in the world, she's awesome.

You've got a few other players, obviously Barbara Banda. Then
midfield's okay, the goalkeeper doesn't up to local level. I
reckon before the thing who wants to beg goalkeeper had
to big out of it.

It was giving local footage. When everyone's like, oh, no,
one wants to be goalkeeper. She's like, well, fin, I'll
do it.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
I'm only saying this because the main one, Steph Cutley,
took the freaking she's went up for like a sort
of footy mark and just gone straight. Yeah, but that
was not good and it might have cost them the
game or it would have probably been a drawer.

To be honest, as a whole, I will say the
Matilda's it might be a bit on a fraud.
Speaker 1 (10:29):

And I do love the Matilla's, yes, trying to be

But that was a great game to watch, I think
for tournament football. Great compared to the Germany game, which
was just depressing the whole way through.

Well, at least we know if you're watching the Matilda's,
even if it's losing a winning there's gonna be lots
of goals. We've now considered eight goals in two games,
so I think you already mentioned this, But is that
do you think that's the biggest warrior Olivia? That the defense? Offensively,
all right, we didn't grow against Germany, but we know
we have some done offensive players. The defense is the worry.

Germany's defense is quite strong, so didn't expect to get
a high scoring result first game warming up into the
tournament as well.

That's just a worry. The defense.

I don't we can't be having that, especially going into
the game like against the US, and if we do
make it to the next stage, if there's no defense,
we're not getting it through to like the medal stages.

No, no, I agree. It's weird as well. You've got
obviously Alone and Kennedy Claire Hunt, who were maybe I
was gonna say, in their prime. They're pretty much their prime.
They've been dominating overseas as well, in the WSL and
in the frenchis League and things like that. That's really surprising
because in the World Cup defensively were great, they were great. Yeah,
I just I think they might be becoming a little bit
too attacking. Greg, you said they're just pushing a bit

too high. Maybe they were a bit too cocky against Zambia.

need to stay back a little bit. I do don't

I feel like she's getting up towards we're having like

a little bit of a worry. So but I agree,
don't need to change the actual players, just the mindset.

you should be on the front foot at half time.

The Matilda's like I will be delusional forever. They will
get a medal. But I just I think they can't
look too far ahead. They need to be focusing on
one game, one game at a time. Yeah, they can't
be looking too far ahead or else it's just going
to get away from them, and that's what some reporters
are saying.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Yeah, well, I think there were some reporters that went
a little bit too far, Like I don't think any
of these players are ahead of themselves, but they're not
cocky and things like that. They're very ground, very humble.
Just I think the way they're playing is just a
little bit off and they just haven't really settled themselves.
So I think that's that's the main.

Making it out of the group is the first focus.
And then yeah, game by game, even if they make
it to the Semis, and I think that it's not
going to be a successful tournament. They don't want to
finish fourth or lower because we've had that before.

Yeah, I still think they'll be aiming for the medal.
I see gold at the start, but that's definitely not
happy anymore. I think I'm looking at the metal chances.
I'd be saying US, even though Germany lost to the US,
I'd still say they're going to be right up there.

Yeah, US, Spain, Germany the best three at the moment. Japan,
I reckon is a sneaky one, and then France obviously
the home team and they've got really good teams, so.

Yes to being is still a medal chance. But I
think we need to draw to the US somehow, somehow,
because they just beat Germany four one. If we draw
