Speaker 1 (00:02):
All right, welcome back to the Football Today podcast, also
known as the fan Tilda's ahead of the Olympics previews
show that we're going to do today. I'm your host,
Liam McCallan also knows the stats guy. Before I get
into it, we have a special show today joined by
Code sports journalist Erin Smith, live from France. It's a
lot hotter there than here, and it's actually you can
watch the games at a reasonable time. But that's okay.
I won't be jealous anymore. Also here today is Tilly's

(00:24):
expert and she's in the kid. Actually today, Really nice, Olivia.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I'm great. I'm super excited about the game. You know,
three am, wake up.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
It's gonna be good. Yeah, it's gonna be good. We've
also got Marcus. He's alive. You have to be alive
for them. Yeah, you're up and about recovery yeah, recard covering.

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Yeah. Nice, you're gonna be up three very nice, very nice. Loose.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Before we get into it, make sure you subscribe to
our YouTube channel. Like I said, I think it's road
to one thousand. We always have a road in all
of our show roads one thousand.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
We're going there.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Let's get the road to twenty thousand. We're just looking
looking big, looking, looking looking up. So go around the
socials as well Football Today are you and listen to
this wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Newsticker.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
We're going to start with before the interview with Aaron
first one, a bit of a sad one. You were
just talking about Olivia as well. Mckenziana revealed that she
might have retired after the last Olympics, the first Olympics
she ever went to.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
She only played one game.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Then obviously had that amazing World Cup, and yeah, that
would have been a horrible sad.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Obviously the World Cup really brought her career to life.
Yeah last year, and yeah, she was really on the
sidelines before that, and then yeah, she really has kind
of leveled up her career. And it's not like she's
that young.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
So it's no, I didn't realize she was thirty. I
thought she was a lot younger because she's probably in
her prime right now. But goalkeepers can last a little
bit longer, I think, so yeah, yeah, so I was
a bit surprised, but she did look really sad, and
I was like, thank god, thank god she was in
the team for the penalty shootout because I don't know
if the other keepers would have done what you guys reckon.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
Yeah, she has mentioned and I think it was fairly
I wouldn't say fortunate, but that she got an opportunity
in the World Cup.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
She's thirty now, so look we probably have another perhaps
four years left in her at international level.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Let's do good things. Let's just see she could be
like the women's noise. Didn't he play to you?

Speaker 5 (02:05):
Is like for it was like forty as well.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
I remember they were playing tag in Micah for a
bit over Mackenzie Antal.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
We've got so many good goalkeepers at the moment.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
I just think Maca is just that level above Teag
and I think now, especially with that huge amount of
experience has under Abult thinks he's really going to deliver
for the Tillies hopefully.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah, yeah, I agree. Next one a bit of a
funny one.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
A drone was spying on the New Zealand team and
it was later found out that was Canada.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
New Zealand.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
As we mentioned Oliver and I, New Zealand literally just
sacked their coach. They didn't even pick Hannah Wilkinson. They're
not even going to win a game. Why are you
spying on New Zealand Canada? I don't know what do
you guys think about that one? You actually spinned a
lot of people with your drones.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
Yeah, sorry, yeah, yeah, I'm sorry about touched him at
a bout.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
It was getting changed. The restraining got to just finished.
But I'm gonna have to already do that one.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
But in all honesty, I don't think teams necessarily when
there's such a short gap between between games and nations,
like obviously got a think in the Olympics, like three
day gap.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Yeah, yeah, it's very short.

Speaker 5 (02:57):
I don't think you're prepping against the opponent as much
much as you are working on your own game and
what you want to work on in the taking third. Yeah,
but yes, really strange by Canada.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Yeah, I think Leo social Lea was even saying, what
are they actually getting out of spying on them with
a drone.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
I don't know what happened, It's happened before. Yeah, I
just thought maybe.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Like formations if they're doing like a minig match.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
They were Zeiland of all teams.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
The only reason they really were in a World Cup
because they're a host nation exactly. They did win a game,
but that was their first game they had ever won,
like a major tournament.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yeah, I think Canada should be looking. There's some better
teams in their books, So I don't know why they
were spying on. That was a weird. One.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Last thing in the newsticker that I just want to
touch on chaos in the men's under twenty three Olympic
competition Argentina verus Morocco. There was just there was fights,
there was flares, there was bottles being thrown. So there
was fifteen minutes of extra time, sorry injury time just
after the game.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Just there was so much going on.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Argentina score an equalizer, they go off the pitch from
a pitch invasion from the Morocco fans, then come back
on like an hour later to finish off the game.
VR rules out the goal, the Argentina coaches fighting with
the rest, there's still people running onto the pitch. It
went for four hours, four hours. I'm really I just
couldn't believe that happened.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
And to put the Olympics as well. The Olympics, it doesn't.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Sound like it was very well run. I don't know,
I know that was a pitch invasion. Could you still
do the very ar check. So that just to end
the game. I don't know, what do you guys reckon?

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Of course, it was like it was weird, but I
mean it was a little bit dodgy as well. Yeah,
a lot of people saying very much scripted that got
back into it. But yeah, pretty strange. But there were
some good players out there for both songs. Kami for
Morocco PG Kunis he played his time in Let's Come

(04:39):
MADRIDI yes, yes, play there, so yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
He's good.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah, there's some good players there. Well, even Unavarez is playing.
I think he's had four straight trophies in a row
because he's had Man City, like the four tournaments, big
tournaments that he's played, and he's wanted trophy and he
just wants another trophy.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
People like a rest mate apparently not in that team
as well. He's about forty, so yeah he's prett it's
pretty old. Played for thirty six. There you go.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
But yeah, that was absolutely chaotic and just a crazy
start to the Olympics. That that was the first one
of the first matches and just went So that was
what all right, before we get into our game one
preview for Australia versus Germany. Going to go straight to
Eron Smith live from France. She gives us an insight
into the Matilda's camp as she follows them around France.
All right, welcome back to a special segment on the
Football Today Podcast. Joining us today is Code sports journalists

(05:24):
and Matilda's expert Aaron Smith. Thanks so much for joining us,
Eron and how the vibes in Marseilles ahead of the
Olympics very exciting, No worry.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Thanks for having me. It is very exciting.

Speaker 6 (05:34):
There's definitely a lot of tourists around here, quite a
few Americans in town.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Yet the spot in the Aussies, but I'm sure they're
floating around here somewhere.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Yeah, I'm sure the first game against Germany they'll be
absolutely packing it out, very excited in some of those
really nice Marseille stadiums. I must say, first of all,
as the Tillies camp seems settled. Obviously, there was some
luggage issues arriving. I'm not actually sure if they've even
got all their luggage yet. And has there been any
spies been the drone's been flying over. That's it's been weird.
Canada obviously had a drone. It get over the New

(06:02):
Zealand camp. That's very wide.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Have you seen any drones or and the chilly settled
at the moment in camp.

Speaker 6 (06:08):
No drones in Achilli's camp. They're training well out of town.
It's a mission to get out there.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Oh it's a bit of a mystery. Yeah, they're trying
to hide it is.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (06:16):
I don't know if they have much say in the location,
but yeah, it's it's not in town.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yeah, they're looking focused and I.

Speaker 6 (06:25):
Believe their kit arrived yesterday beautiful. Some clothes away.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Yeah, thank god for that. I saw that it said
their kid, there was a few other things. That's the
last thing you want in the Olympics. But I would
have been wild if they're all just wearing different kids
and things like that. So thank god they have that sorted.
I also saw you wrote an article just a couple
of weeks ago. You interviewed Kyra kuny Cross that a
lot of people on this show absolutely love. She was
saying that they had a lot of superstitions the Matilda's
at the World Cup. I think it was what they wore,

(06:51):
what they ate there was if she didn't paint her nails,
they'd lose Apparently all those superstitions are gone. That is
that the truth, and that's going to help us succeed
at this tournament, do you think.

Speaker 6 (07:00):
Yeah, so far, it's seems the girls have ditched the
whole team superstition.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
But I think individual players will still stick to the earth.
They're not going.

Speaker 6 (07:07):
To get rid of those in risk messing up their
mental health space. They get like Prince of Hailey Rasso
always turns of socks inside out before she played the game.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Really, Okay, I didn't know that one.

Speaker 6 (07:18):
Yeah, I think the individual players, Yeah, the individual players
still do their own thing, but as a team, I
think they're putting a lot less focused on those sort
of pregame ritual Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
No, that's understandable.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
I think in your interview, Kira said that there was
just a bit too much pressure on that they would
have to do that every single day, their same meal
and things like that. So I'm actually sort of glad
that they're just moving on from that contract on the
game a little bit more. Talking about the game, Game
one is against the powerhouse of Germany. Very exciting, so
very excited to have that game. In Game one, some
injury rumors from a few weeks ago that people were
discussing around the office.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
There was Kaitlyn Torpy. I think they came out a
couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Steph Ctley, Do you think they'll be fine for the
opener or do you think any other players might be
rested or in and out of the side.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
Yeah, with Katley, Torpy and forward all nursing injuries, and
they were all rested from that pre opening game with Canada,
but I think they'll all be back in some capacity.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
They're all training.

Speaker 6 (08:11):
No one's sporting any strap in tape at training, so
it's a promising sign.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
When I last spoke to TG.

Speaker 6 (08:18):
Though, he sort of hinted that Timiki Yallop could miss
the first game with an injury she had was class
as a knock, but I think it's a bit more serious.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
She's training, but she hasn't had any match minutes because
she's in the off season from the A League.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
That's right. I forgot about that.

Speaker 6 (08:34):
Yeah, yeah, training separately from the group. Missed the CARENDA game,
so TG said she could be rested and Sean Fryer
board in, which would been massive for her.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Well forr I obviously scored last game against Canada that
she was really good, didn't get too many shots off
as a team, and the fact that she got on
the scoreboard was awesome, good news about yeah, Torpee, Katley
Ford and things like that. It sounded like it was
a pretty precautionary and there was people in our comments
section that a social girl Olivia wasn't happy about saying
Katley's out, Katley's this, Kelly is that, But sounds like
she's good to go. We haven't gone too well against

(09:05):
Germany in recent history, with five to two loss was
the last one, and then I think having won in
the last three, what do you think that Tillyes need
to do to win this one?

Speaker 3 (09:12):
And how do you think they'll go?

Speaker 4 (09:14):
It's been a.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
While since he played them though on both teams are
very different, very different. Yeah, the game was one of
TG's first with the team actually, like he hadn't been
around that long when they played. I think we're going
to go right. I think the thing we'll have to
do is take our chances. Yep, if you get one,
you've got to take it. There's no point mucking around.

(09:35):
The chances are going to be limited that they get one,
they've got it at the ball.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
I think that's why Michelle Haymond's up there. She just
absolutely takes her chances. As we talked about in our
last show talking about that, the players that have to
take their chances. Which players do you think will have
the biggest impact of the game. Will it be in
the defense having to stop the likes of Alexandra Pop
absolute superstar, jewe lea Brand who I really like watching
the twenty one year old from Germany?

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Or is it the midfield of the attack?

Speaker 1 (10:00):
Because which sort of area and which sort of players
do you think will have the biggest impact for the
Tillies in this one?

Speaker 4 (10:04):
Yeah, I don't think you can beat a team like
Germany unless it's a whole team effort. It needs to
be seamless.

Speaker 6 (10:09):
But I think the defender, that center back combination with
Hunt and Kennedy, they have to be seamless. If they
make an error, Germany won't fail to capitalize on it,
and then we'll be on the back foot. But likewise, upfront,
anyone in the midfield, Matt front three, or however he
sets it up, they've got to take their chances if

(10:30):
they get them. I think that book's going to come
down to no.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
I Yeah, I completely agree on that. One just need
to take those chances. Do we think it's going to
be a high scoring sort of clash or low scoring
two really good defenses? Obviously that was a long time
ago that five to two result. Are you leaning towards
a lot of goals or is this first game of
the tournament? They'll probably both teams were built into it,
do you think?

Speaker 6 (10:50):
Yeah, I think the first game of the tournament, well,
both teams want to win, they won't want to show
all their cards.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
It's a long tournament.

Speaker 6 (10:57):
In terms of how many games, even if it's only
a two weeks Yep. Yeah, I'm thinking a fairly low
scrowing game. I wouldn't be surprised if further gets on
the board first if happy to then defend and try
and stick it out for the rest of again.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Yeah, yeah, and I think that's a good call on that.
What about a score prediction for the match and any
goal scorers can be from either side. It doesn't have
to be too bias towards the Tillies. I think I
was very biased on our show tipping the Tillies, but
score prediction at all from you?

Speaker 6 (11:24):
I think it could be a one one draw and
I really want I think it might be Mary Fowler
who you get the points on the board for US
yep as much says, I'd love to say the Tilly
we're going to win it one, Neil. I think that
the chances is blame. I don't think Germany get'll let
us get away that easy.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
I think opening matches well, I wouldn't be surprised if
it's a draw. Like obviously Germany a great team, but
they match up really well both teams.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
You did mention Mary Fowler.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
This is just one off the top of my head
here for the not a rising star be as Mary
sort of already become a star. But is there a
younger player from the Mantildas that you think is going
to take that next step at this tournament?

Speaker 4 (11:59):
Yeah, I think Cooney Cross could really come into her own.

Speaker 6 (12:01):
We sort of thought she can do at the World Cup,
and I think we're treeing a Gory back or even
linking up with Claire Wheeler, depending on how fit Gory is.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (12:10):
I just think after a season at Arsenal, Puny Cross
is going to really show us what she can do.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Yeah, I'm so excited to watch her in She's an
absolute freak. We'll start with this one of the past
mark for the Matildas. I think a lot of people
are saying, obviously want to go for their first ever medal.
A lot of other people are saying, we can go
for gold if we've got a big chance. Definitely for gold,
just with the amount of talent and depth, even without
Sam Kerr. But what do you think is a past
mark for the Matias. They'll be going for gold, But
what do you think personally? Yeah?

Speaker 6 (12:35):
I mean on paper, they shouldn't even get out of
the group. I mean they're ranked tenth out of their
teams in the tournament. Crazy, So yeah, I think gold
is definitely like flying if they can get I think
the past mark is a semi final win. They haven't
had that at a major tournament under TV yet. They
seemed to be the speed bump and who knows if

(12:56):
they get passed out, I guess confidence booths could land
them anywhere.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
Yeah. And then do you back U seen in a
penalty shootout? I definitely do. From some past penalty shootouts
we've had one, you can't not back us.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
In one of those. We've got plenty of experience.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Now absolutely, Ah and then we'll finish off a podium prediction. Yeah,
he's obviously got the tillies, possibly in bronze, but yeah,
what do you think for first, second, third in this
tournament in the Olympics, Yeah, I think.

Speaker 6 (13:22):
Spain have got it in a bad penny Andy. Yeah,
they look really good, but yeah, they're just too slick.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
And then at the home advantage, I think France might
silver medal. Yep, I don't know. I think Germany. You
are saying in Australia are going to ballot out for third, battle.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
It out, which one would you have to choose out
of those three for third? I'm going to have to
pick Yeah, I think I think everyone would be happy
with the bronze obviously first medal, last two being fourth
and fourth in the Olympics and work up that, so
that would be great. I think, yeah, he's done well
there the first, second, third. Spain do look really good.
I think they're midfield and just the amount of players
they have are just amazing. So Spain gold. I don't

(13:59):
mind that at all. I think a few people on
our show picked that as well. So even though we
do on the tilly, Spain do look unstoppable. I think
that's it. A bit of a quick one, but check
out Aaron Smith on Code Sports and all over the
socials Twitter at underscore aeron Underscore Smith, thank you very
much for coming on, and we might have to get
you back on while you're over there in Marseille.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
No worries, thanks for having me.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Let's get right back into the usual show, all right,
thanks again to Aaron. That was an awesome interview, just
getting that insight. We got some insight into injuries that
Olivia absolutely loved.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Steph Catley is playing comments.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Olivia was not happy with some of the TikTok comments,
but keep the comments coming.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
Good on bad comment is good could engage you.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Exactly right as we've had some definitely up and down
comments over the last couple of weeks, but.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
We absolutely love it. Game one preview.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
The Matilda's are here three am for Australia, which is
a crazy time, but we'll be up and watching Australia
Verus Germany Germany absolute powerhouse have won the Olympics.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Before Let's go recent results and just head to head results.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Odds dot com dot au Marcus has written an article
on there, so make sure you love.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
A cheecky plug's got a bit of a plugger. What
do you got?

Speaker 5 (14:58):
Well? Germany and Australia four times previously, Australia have never
actually beaten Germany, one draw and three losses. The most
recent game was in twenty twenty one, Germany smashed US
five to two. Day We've also had a two two
draw in twenty sixteen, two to one loss in twenty ten,
and a three new loss in two thousand.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Okay, I think the team's come a long way even
in twenty twenty one, but that's there's still be a
lot of players that would have played in that game.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
So I agree.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
I think, yeah, we've got that World Cup experience under
our belt. Now I've really developed as a team and yeah,
look I hope we win, but I think it's definitely
gonna be our toughest match of the group stages in
my op.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Yeah, I agree as well. All right, Olivia, you're all
over it, you're out. Tilly's expert. What do you think
the lineup is going to be? Predicted line lineup?

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Predicted lineup Goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, right back Alie Carpenter, center
backs Alina Kennedy and Claire Hunt left back, Steph Catley,
center meds Kyra Kuney Cross and Katrina Goury center attacking mid,
Mary Fowler, right wing Hailey Rasso, striker Michelle Hayman and
left wing Kaitlin Ford.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
I think, yeah, all the big names are in there,
obvious except Sam Kerr. I think that's that's a really
good lineup. The one that we talked about with who
was it was with Carli Yeah Ross back in the
other week was Mary Fowler needs to start in that
tempersion and then that camposition.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
What do you guys think about that? Not on the wings.
Definitely put her in the middle.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
Yeah, I agree, and what predicted lineup, I'll put her
through the middle. So that's where you get the best
out of Mary Fowler. And I think it's the best
way that Australia can get all their stars and the
pitch that still works in the system really well. Otherwise
you'd have to who would probably Hayman would drop out
of this team play forward.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
It's a striker line.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Possibly they started a couple of times, but I do
you think the same thing. That lineup is probably better
for Rass and.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
I think, yeah, we've got to be really looking for
the wings. I think the Matilda's play really well down
the wing.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
We know that.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
But then also Mary Fowler, Yeah, she's just going to
be a really playmaker, I believe as well.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Yeah, no, I agree. I think this.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
She sometimes gets lost on the on the wing where
they don't use her enough, whereas when she's in the
middle you.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
Have to go film that and and across that if
it's awesome. I feel I feel like kaylen Ford is
made for the left because she loves to run, attack
at people, take people. It's very rare that you get
wingers that actually want to take people on, take on
their their man or girl in this case, and absolutely
obliterate them.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
And hopefully.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Every goal she's pretty much scored, an opportunity she makes
is from that left. So I think, yeah, she's going
to do that. If Tony plays are there, we'll.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Have to see.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
We have to get into tg she doesn't if he
doesn't do this, I think this is the best way
that bers can play.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Yeah for sure. All right, we'll go into some predictions here.
Player of the Match.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
I'll start with you, Olivia, who do you think? I
think we're on this the other day, But I'm going
Steph Catley.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
If she is in the team, she definitely will be
in the team. I just think, yeah, she's captaining the
side major tournament. I think she's going to just really
be mature, be there for the girls to just lead
the pack and I think, yeah, just create those essential
plays and really lead the team to that hopefully victory.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Yeah. Nice, Marcus, who are you going, I'm going to
go to Germany? That's all right, that's right. But it's
going to be the German goalkeeper Burger. Okay.

Speaker 5 (17:59):
I just think, yeah, she's unreal. She's probably the best
German player in the squad. Yeah, she's had a fantastic
career and I think just think with Australia is so
good in the attacking third, I feel like defensive third
is where we're like a little bit.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Ye.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
But yeah, I.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
Think Germany will get a result and I think it'll
be a big.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Part down to Burger. Yes, Burger related, that's a cricket
cricket today. I loves everyone. Then the last name Berger.
You just love that in cricket. Oh, absolutely absolutely. My
player of the match Katrina Gury. I know she hasn't
played as much just coming back from injury. But every
time she put on a west Ham kits she was
getting Player of the match. I think she's going to
bring that type of energy every time I watch them Matildas,

(18:40):
you just see her from box to box. She's that workhorse,
she's the playmaker. I wouldn't be surprised she gets an assist.
I think similar to Mary Fowler, they're going to go
a lot through the midfield through Katrina Goury, through Kya
Kuney Cross. But I think that level had that experience
from Katrina. Gur is just going to take over and
everyone goes, oh, yeah, she's pretty good. She hasn't played
for a while, but yeah, everyone's like she's awesome. So
I'm going to get her for the player of the match.

(19:00):
That all right, let's finish it off. Let's wrap it
up with the score plus some goalscorer predictions. So I'll
start with you again, Olivia.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
What's the score?

Speaker 2 (19:07):
And the score is one nill Australia win and Caitlyn
Ford gets the screamer of a goal from.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Outside the box the box similar to Sam Kerry in England. Yeah,
don't mind that a bit of a worldie Marcus.

Speaker 5 (19:20):
Well, my brain's saying Germany. But I'm gonna pull the
splinters out my ars and sit on the fence. I'm
going to sit on the fence here and go one
one Australia. Nicker result an important point on the stage,
and we'll go Mary Feler proving her worth in the
ten position.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
Very nice. I'm going to go one Nill as well,
similar to Olivia.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
I just think first game of a big tournament usually
is pretty cagy, not as many like classy finishes happens
in every time, happens in the World Cup, happens in
lots of different tournaments. I'm gonna go Michelle Haymond to
get on the scoreboard. She just every time she looks up,
she's trying to shoot. If she's at a halfway point,
I reckon she might take a shot. That's that's a
hungry year sometimes. But she's an elite finisher, really good
header as well, so I just think she might.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
I do like that about Michelle Haymen. She always takes
that chance. I feel like some players they just pass
it off too early, or they don't really create. They
create the opportunity, but they never finished it. I think
Michelle Haymon, Yeah, that's what. She's pretty clinical like.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
Well, that's what Alex and a few even Arsenal women's
fans we're talking about. Even when they came to Australia,
they like to pass it around, try and get to
the very whereas Michelle Hayman, similar to Sam Kerr, if
the shots there, you might as well take it because
you never know you might score.

Speaker 5 (20:24):
So she only needs one chance within twelve yards and
it's a goal.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Yeah yeah, so hopefully she gets on the score shop.
I would still take a one ll just to start
off the tournament. Yeah, but I think a win is
definitely doable. Sure in a tough group.

Speaker 5 (20:34):
I think a loss is very hard to swallow because look,
points are very very hard to come by in the Olympics,
as the Matildas know previously. I think their best ever
finish was four fourth, yeah, and then finished seventh couple
of times. So look, hoping for a point here at
the very least.

Speaker 6 (20:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
No, I agreed, all right, I think that's it. Come
on the tillies we go.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
We're gonna get a win on the get up at
three am, please please, I don't want to be sad coming.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
I want some goals as well.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Goals. Yeah, we don't want to knee all or something
like that. That would be.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Brit give many of those in the Euros getting up earlier.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
That was brutal.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
All right, make sure you check out some of the
football clips. We're gonna do a lot of socials on
Football Today AU so check that out. I think that's it.
Thank you very much, Gerald and Leo behind the camera.
Thanks Olivia, thank you, thank.

Speaker 3 (21:16):
You very much.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Welcome back, Mircus, thank you. Happy to be here, Happy
to be here, of course thanks to me. And that's
another episode of Football Today.
