Speaker 1 (00:00):
And welcome into another edition of the From the Podium Podcast.
I'm Jason Gibbs. Welcome into day two of Rookie Mini
Camp twenty twenty five here at the Cross Country Mortgage
Campus right here in Burrea, Ohio. I'm Jason Gibbs, and
coming up today on the From the Podium Podcast, it
(00:22):
is quarterback Day. It is head coach Day. You will
hear from our quarterbacks, our rookie quarterbacks. First up, Dylan
Gabriel from Oregon. You'll hear from Shador Sanders from Colorado,
and you'll hear from head coach Kevin Stefanski after Day
two completes. First things first, let's get right to it.
Quarterback Dylan Gabriel, pick number ninety four, the third round
(00:46):
pick by the Cleveland Browns from the University of Oregon.
Here's his introductory press conference with the media.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
All good, you know, honestly, you know, I think this
is definitely a place where I thrive, being able to
get back in the building. And I think, you know,
within six months of the draft process, you're uh kind
of teamless and uh, you know a lot of time
for you to build and grow individually. But uh, this
is where I thrive being in a team environment. That's
why you play the game of football, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
On the Frock.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
When we talked to Kevin Samantien Ager Baby, they said
they spent so much time with you during the pre
draft process. Did you get a sense that they really
liked you.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
I think it was mutual and I think, uh, naturally
you have conversations and you look at the game of
football in a similar way. You know naturally that this
builds over time. So uh, spend a lot of time
with them. Of course, super excited I'm here and blessed
that I am and felt like, you know, this is
a spot for sure, and.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
That that's radio with Burke authentic.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
It's not all about Yeah, it's like that metaphor you
know a little birdie told me so. Uh kind of
kind of played with that, but uh, funny enough that
that got out and yeah, it's there for everyone to see.
Speaker 6 (02:00):
You, Like, can you just address this whole notion of
your coming in here as the third wrong pick schedulers
coming in as the fifth rong pick. Yet he brings
a lot of the uh, you know, social media and
the androage of hype and all the houpla and all that.
Speaker 5 (02:15):
Kind of stuff.
Speaker 6 (02:15):
So what is your sort of mindset or approach to
that whole notion.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Of Yeah, I mean for me, you know, life of
simplicity is a life full of you know, focus, life
of you know, complexity comes to life of distractions. But
for me, I'm focused, I'm simple. Uh, I know what
I wanna accomplish with it.
Speaker 7 (02:34):
Though.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
What was your reaction when you found out they did
graft shador?
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah, I love it, you know, I love it because
of who it is, you know, I think, uh, just
for us both you can learn from one another, but
also it's not just us to do in the room,
at least for right now it is. But you know,
going into the year, Kenny, Joe, uh and even Deshaun,
just a bunch of guys who played a bunch of
ball that we can all learn from one another.
Speaker 8 (02:59):
They really anyone in the soil that maybe you gravitated towards.
It's kind of you've already attached yourself to here.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, Ron and Corey in the equipment room, they've been
a huge help. Uh, definitely guys you interact with every
single day, But not only them, I think just uh,
a bunch of the guys going through this process, you know,
grinding and and learning from one another. But uh, it's
been a good one, you know. And I think you
see the urgency from everyone and knowing that this opportunity
you want to maximize coming in here.
Speaker 9 (03:27):
And and you know, being part of a four man
quarterback competition this.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Offseason, Yep, it's not new to me.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
I I've I've done it at you know, every stop,
and I've done it, you know, not at every level.
So uh, thank goodness for that and great preparation that.
But also know that you know, my competition is is yesterday.
You know, how can I be better than I was yesterday?
So that's what I'm focused on. Uh, And continue to
create a environment that you want to be a part of,
(03:56):
and and that's all you can do.
Speaker 10 (03:57):
Dylan, how familiar were you in Shoudore with one another.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Like in college or you know, I think from a
distance and you you definitely watch quarterbacks playing at a
high level, and I think with anyone you you're pretty
focused on your season and who you play against. But
you know, I of course know of and and have
seen then you're just with the Browns.
Speaker 10 (04:18):
You talked about the interests being mutual you thought throughout
the pre draft draft process.
Speaker 11 (04:21):
What about them?
Speaker 10 (04:22):
Did you enjoyed getting to to me, Kevin and and
every one ahead of time?
Speaker 5 (04:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Just like I said, the similar way of thinking about
the game, you know and offensively, uh, schematically, the the
whole nine.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
I uh just appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
And you know, I think naturally, when you in any profession,
if you connect with a person, it just happened, you know,
and naturally it's it's our thing about football, but also
as people very easy people to you know, learn from
and and be coach.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Bind would simple.
Speaker 6 (04:52):
And sort of not getting distracted.
Speaker 12 (04:54):
Yeah, how about just like you guys, every single thing
that you do is gonna be street night, put out
there on.
Speaker 6 (05:00):
Social media, put on Twitter.
Speaker 13 (05:03):
Even yesterday people were like, oh, Dylan did better, Sho
did better.
Speaker 14 (05:06):
So what about that?
Speaker 6 (05:08):
Are you do you plan to kind of ignore that,
engage in it. What's your approach to that?
Speaker 5 (05:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:14):
I think the more questions I get asked like that,
it just divides the team. And and for me, I
think you know how you know, we hit We're in
a room full of not just us, but Kenny, Joe
and Deshaun, and for us, you know, we we know
how important a healthy QB room is. But also you know,
uh uh a team that you wanna be a part of,
you know, and how do you create an environment every
(05:35):
single day where everyone can be at their best and
that's just pushing one another, which talent naturally does and
you know, naturally it's it's healthy, you know for us
where we all go do our thing and everyone wins.
Speaker 11 (05:47):
The mechanics of your.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Position, how important is this to spiral blah blah?
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Yeah, I think you know, naturally would pace touch and accuracy?
Spin naturally helps that. Also velocity has you know a
little bit to do with it. But then just getting
the ball from point A to point B in a
uh as efficient way as possible?
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Uh, spiral naturally helps.
Speaker 7 (06:09):
Out, Dylan, What goes into your process? You you've gone
transition into different offenses multiple times in college? What goes
into your process of kind of expediating the process of
picking up that what you're the new system you're going in.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yeah, there's no way around it, just through, you know,
and you got to continue to learn, you know. Of
course I've had my time in learning a bunch of
new offenses and a bunch of different areas and connecting
with different people. But for the most part, it's hard work,
it's dedication. You know, everyone has their process, whether it's
walk throughs, you know, installs being able to tie in
film with that. But for the most part, there's no
(06:43):
way around.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
It's through how.
Speaker 9 (06:44):
Were generally credit the playbook get more gun versus what
you walked into here in Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
You know a lot of similarities. I think verbiage for
everyone has been something that's new and that's natural. You know,
in college there is more tempo based offenses, which you know,
naturally to help yourself in tempo you have to have
shorter calls where you know, in the NFL huddle is
more uh natural procedure, so naturally you can you know,
(07:10):
add more verbage to that.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
But for me, uh did a mixture of both.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Very blessed as well to do the Senior Bowl, which
is great practice for for this kind of stuff. But
throughout the process, you uh, you tend to go through
playbooks and and have to rep it that day of
and like I said, three different spots you you learn
how to create your own process for it.
Speaker 15 (07:28):
Dylan, what about hearing your name called take us inside
your draft party and what that moment was.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Like for you.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Yeah, it was a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
You know, I think you know when you go back
to that, it's it's a dream come true, but it's
also the beginning of your dream. So excited for the
work to come, and you know, this is this is where.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
I wanted to be. But you know, the the dreams
and goals don't stop there.
Speaker 11 (07:47):
What your what's been.
Speaker 16 (07:48):
Your interaction or reaction with Browns fans so far?
Speaker 2 (07:52):
I mean, I I haven't had enough yet. It's been
my second day, but uh, bunch of love. I look
at this weather, is this beautiful? But uh no, I'm
just playing. But yeah, it's it's been a blessing coming
here and kind of getting the lay of the land,
even though it's only my second day.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
So we'll I'll have to answer that here in a
couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
How how often were you under center?
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Would just percentage on there a good mixture? I think
more so this past year. But uh, naturally, if you
play six years in college, you're gonna get under center
one way or another. And for me, uh, you know,
comfortability is just getting reps and we're repping it a
bunch here. But uh, I have done it in game,
in practice in college, so uh, it'll naturally translate as well.
Speaker 12 (08:36):
Good.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
I think you said before that you're not you're used
to competition a quarterback, but you're also started a ton
of games. So does this feel any different to you
walking in? Dude's such an kind of wide open competition.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
It doesn't. And like I said, a competition, how I
approach it. I'm tryna beat yesterday. You know myself yesterday. Uh,
just any chance I can be one percent better than that,
That's how I look at it. And naturally, uh, you
you play the quarterback position. Only one guy can play,
so uh uh, there's naturally gonna have competition at all levels.
And that's why we're in this game. We'd we love it,
(09:09):
you know. And if you're a competitor, uh, you love
it and you you run towards it.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
So so what I do?
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Could you cook forward up? Were you told by the
Browns or taking you up ninety four?
Speaker 5 (09:19):
I don't know. We'll leave that up to mystery.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Dylan.
Speaker 10 (09:21):
I know there was this clip going around, uh from
you in college talking about you like playing in in
nice weather, climate controlled elements.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Well th ill s I hear you there.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
I I'll say this, this is what's tough about right now?
Right Like, yeah, in this day and age, a clip
is a clip. Yet it was a fun interview full
of a bunch of questions. So I'm glad you asked
that question. But we decide to clip certain things that
maybe could get more views than than other you know
clips within that video. I just challenge everyone to watch
(09:51):
a full video, you know, and uh not just watch
one clip.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Dylan going through the draft process, the biggest criticism was
your size. What do you have this? I think you
might not be big.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
I have nothing to say to the critics, you know.
For me, everyone's has an opinion and it's right to
have their own opinion and can speak and how they feel.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
But for me, I'm like I said, I'm simple, I'm focused.
I got goals I wanna accomplish.
Speaker 12 (10:16):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
I would not be here if I listened to other people.
So for me to listen to the right people. Coaches,
getting better every single day and controlling what you can
is when you get in between those white lines, dominating
the moment, maximizing the moment, being present.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Uh you sit from home last night, Yeah, you said
the day you were drafted and talked to you on
the fun.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
You said that never did not a stary. So is
your mindset that you should you can be able to
start early.
Speaker 5 (10:46):
I think it's so early, you know for me?
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Uh I I said that in a sense that I
only know one way to prepare. I only know one
way to work, and that is as the starter. You know,
I've played a bunch of ball and have a lot
of experience, so I'm gonna use that to my advantage.
But for the most part, I can't say that right now.
I gotta continue to dominate the moment and have great
practices as you build on upon that.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
You know.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
I still look forward to meeting my new teammates, you know,
the vets on Monday, So I think that'll be a
question down the road. But I think every day I
approach is like I'm gonna go get that rep and
you know, I live it like that.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
Thank you guys.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Up next fifth round, pick pick number one forty four
from the University of Colorado, Shaudor Sanders and his first
press conference with the Cleveland media and national media.
Speaker 11 (11:34):
How's everybody door?
Speaker 3 (11:38):
What'd you think of your first day?
Speaker 14 (11:41):
I think there's a lot of stuff in personally I
can work on. But overall, as a team, I think
we came out great energy, the speed, and everybody was
working hard, working very fast and being very efficient.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Should I'm bringing about suggestion to draft and so what
did you take away from that?
Speaker 14 (12:03):
You give advices you that that was I M, my
story's gonna be similar.
Speaker 11 (12:09):
You know.
Speaker 14 (12:09):
Uh, I was a late around draft pick. But we're
here now, so none of that stuff matters. That just
mattered on the day and uh, I'm just excited to
be hearing ready to work.
Speaker 8 (12:19):
Do I know it's early, but have you been able
to gravitate for work? Someone attach yourself to someone in
this building.
Speaker 9 (12:24):
And you're part of your already?
Speaker 14 (12:25):
Yeah, I say, all ther Well, it's only really rookies
in them building right now, and all of them real
cool and uh, they got great personality. So M, I'm
glad to have that team bonding, that team chemistry back.
Speaker 13 (12:37):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (12:37):
Being you know on your own with pro day and
with uh the.
Speaker 14 (12:42):
Combine and everybody and everything is more individual for that.
So being around that team environment, I'll say, is the
best right now.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Should do her fun.
Speaker 6 (12:50):
Not many rookies or draft picks have the opportunity to
have the President of the United States going to bat
for you.
Speaker 11 (12:57):
Yeah, in the middle of the drafts.
Speaker 13 (12:58):
So what was that like?
Speaker 14 (13:00):
Yeah, oh Na, I was truly thankful. I was truly
thankful for it, including him. It's a lot of fans,
a lot of people in barbershops, a lot of hairstyles.
There's a lot of just uh fans you know, of
of me and of my crafting, of my family that
uh was there to support. So I alway, I was
just thankful that I have that foundation overall, just it's
(13:23):
people and we all could come together as one.
Speaker 16 (13:25):
Should you have incredible popularity, but you just starting your career,
I mentally popular.
Speaker 11 (13:32):
Why do you think that is? Why do you think likable? Well?
Speaker 14 (13:38):
Yeah, that I guess that's what it is. I just
be myself every day. You know, I can't control with
external I cann't even control with internal, But.
Speaker 15 (13:48):
That you do how do you block all that stuff
out a and and be a football.
Speaker 14 (13:54):
Player by doing what uh my dad raised me to
do since I was like five years old.
Speaker 11 (14:00):
You know, I've seen it.
Speaker 14 (14:01):
I've seen what he was able to do, what he
was able to do, And I have a lot of
great resources and mentors, you know, to keep me on
the right track, and especially coming to this building. We
have great coaches in the building, uh, able to you know,
keep me, keep me focused, keep me uh in a
straight near a line.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
What's what's the balance between wanting to know when you're
competing and wanting to be the start of here for
a long time, but also being right here just getting started.
Speaker 11 (14:25):
Well it of course it's day by day.
Speaker 14 (14:28):
I just find something I wanna perfect and just perfect it,
uh to the best of my abilities. And and that's
how I really focus on and just being there, just
being a leader, being a great teammate, doing what I
need to do whenever it is.
Speaker 11 (14:41):
So I'm just thankful for opportunity.
Speaker 5 (14:44):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (14:44):
Things could have been a lot worse.
Speaker 14 (14:46):
But I'm here smiling in front of you all, uh,
at this facility right now.
Speaker 7 (14:52):
With Dylan since you guys have gotten into the building together.
Speaker 13 (14:55):
Cool.
Speaker 14 (14:56):
Normal, Yeah, it been normal. It He he's a real
cool guy overall. Yeah, you could tell he's he always
have a great mood. You know, he's always in a
good mood. He never I only been around two days though,
but he always.
Speaker 11 (15:12):
Have a great mood. But overall, I could tell, you know,
he's a pretty good person.
Speaker 15 (15:16):
How do you come in here? You know, just from
a mental standpoint in your approach, fifth round pick, they
did draft Dylan two rounds in front of you, and
you come into, uh, basically a four man quarterback competition
for potentially a starting job in.
Speaker 5 (15:32):
Your rookie year.
Speaker 14 (15:34):
I just feel like in life and everything, it's just
me versus me. You know, I can't control any other
decision besides that, So I just try to be my
best self at all times.
Speaker 16 (15:44):
Can you talk about the community work you've done so
far here since you've got.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
In New Cleveland.
Speaker 14 (15:50):
Yeah, So typically every state I go to, I don't
really be on like social like that. I got people
that just run it for me and stuff, so like
what I find fun and interesting and it's a lot
of just I don't know, it's just it's just joy
to me. It is just going to those high schools,
middle schools and just you know, engaging with the younger kids,
(16:13):
you know, cause they they mind's not corrupted.
Speaker 11 (16:15):
Of other people's opinions.
Speaker 14 (16:17):
So that's why I find joint happiness going to different
schools and being able just to talk to them and
see the joy on they face because they followed the journey.
So even through everything, whenever it was going crazy wow, negative, everything,
my happiness was going there. So that's what I always
resort to. I always like send pizza to they school,
(16:38):
like show them like you know that I'm still able
to connect with them. They still able to connect with me,
and eventually I was supposed to get on the game
with them also, but I don't have my game.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Out here right now, regardless of the slide.
Speaker 14 (16:54):
Yeah, all you gotta do, all you gotta do is
just look it up. You'll see the history. I don't
I don't do anything for p H. I don't do
anything because anywhere I go, you know, cameras will come.
So it's not really nothing I typically try to do.
It's just you know, my life and just h what
it came with.
Speaker 13 (17:11):
You have really kept your head up, You've kept your
spirits up. You always say, I have a smile on
your face, even in the wake of tumbling to the
fifth round of the draft.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
So how have you been able to do that?
Speaker 5 (17:25):
I mean, you just.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Didn't let this.
Speaker 14 (17:27):
Yeah, I mean, you just gotta step back and look
at life like you're in a great situation. Overall that
you able to be healthy. You know that, that's that's
one thing going through. You know, even with my brother
going through with injury and my Pops and everybody in
a family like you, you value life and you value
opportunity and just waking up every day a different way.
(17:49):
So that's kind of why it's nothing for me to really,
no matter what, in any situation, I can't I can't
really be phased by it.
Speaker 11 (17:58):
You know, it's like playing quarterback.
Speaker 14 (17:59):
You go down there, you may not scored the whole
game or whatever, but then when it gets to that
final two moments two minutes and it's time to lock
in extra, you can't.
Speaker 11 (18:08):
You can't be in your.
Speaker 14 (18:09):
Feelings, you can't be down about anything. You know, you
still you still got another chance.
Speaker 6 (18:16):
You said, the kids like the kids because their minds
aren't corrupted.
Speaker 11 (18:19):
Yeah, yeah, what do you mean by that corrupted?
Speaker 14 (18:21):
Is in like they don't other people's opinion of you,
Like they go based off they own, you know, so
they don't have not even nine percent of hatred is
you know, towards Pops.
Speaker 11 (18:32):
And then I'm just you know, I'm just his son.
Speaker 14 (18:35):
So it really just come from from that, and I
told him that too, but you know, it just it
just come.
Speaker 11 (18:41):
It just comes from him.
Speaker 14 (18:44):
But then you know they didn't grow up in the
error to where you know they watched him place, so
they don't have anything too much negative whether they say.
Speaker 11 (18:52):
Flashy this that that, like.
Speaker 14 (18:55):
Just the older generation that do it to me rather
than the young than younger people because when I in person,
I don't there's no negativity I see.
Speaker 11 (19:03):
But it's all over online.
Speaker 14 (19:04):
So that's why I say I like going in person
and actually meeting them, and any questions they have, I say,
just ask me whatever question you want, pick any question,
no filter, know anything. Then one second, one second, I
got you. But yeah, that's that's what they say. And
then I just answer whatever they need me to answer.
But the most question they asked me was just like,
(19:25):
how is it mentally going through all this? And I
just told him it's just like playing quarterbacks. So I
can't be phased.
Speaker 10 (19:30):
But I know your dad in the pre draft process
that said, like with everything you've dealt with with attention
and scrutiny, that you're very well prepared in his opinion,
to take on everything that comes with seeing in the NFL.
Just what has that been like I guess throughout your
life and how has he helped you navigate that? Especially
these last few years.
Speaker 14 (19:48):
I say definitely he gave us the spotlight to be
able to do that. So he gave us the opportunity.
That's all you can ask for in anybody's job and
anybody's profession is just the opportunity, give a chance.
Speaker 11 (19:58):
The rest after that on you. So I'm taking every
snap out there.
Speaker 14 (20:02):
You know, I'm getting up after these hits, I'm getting
I'm doing throwing touchdowns, I'm doing.
Speaker 11 (20:10):
You know that, gotta live it day by day.
Speaker 14 (20:12):
So that's that's all he gave us, was the opportunity,
and we had to navigate and and see what we
like about. And that's how I study people, honestly. I
study people, see how they handle certain things, see what
they do, see different people's tendencies when it's going on.
So you won't really able, you won't ever really be
able to tell, you know, when I'm frustrated and when
(20:35):
I'm not feeling good or anything, because I watched even
self reflecting, you know, years even though like even even
just on sidelines and stuff, you know, I feel like
I couldn't handled better situations because it was misunderstood by
the mass.
Speaker 11 (20:51):
But I understood.
Speaker 14 (20:52):
But you know, I don't want anybody to form negative
opinions you know, about me, and it's something I could change.
So I just took that type the leadership ability within
myself to not give that vibe all or not give
off that different.
Speaker 11 (21:06):
Type of aesthetic of negativity.
Speaker 10 (21:09):
When you say watching people like, do you just mean
like in general or teammates.
Speaker 11 (21:13):
Or no, wasn't wasn't people. It's like other successful people.
Speaker 14 (21:16):
It it's not just the position I say, it's just
everybody in life because like people in life, they they
go through uh different challenges, but it's but it's similar.
So I if it's a financing guy in his business
is crash or something, how is he throughout those moments?
Speaker 11 (21:32):
You know, like is he frantic? Like is he is
he out of character?
Speaker 14 (21:36):
So that's why whenever you've seen the draft and all
that stuff happen, I was and everything was live.
Speaker 11 (21:41):
So I was normal.
Speaker 14 (21:43):
I'm normal throughout everything because all it is is what's
the next step?
Speaker 11 (21:48):
So I was just thinking, you know what's next about that?
Speaker 3 (21:51):
You know, when you gotta take three more?
Speaker 10 (21:53):
When now you got that phone call your family friend
books that that you kind of just let it roll
right off the back.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
You went to throwing the football right after.
Speaker 11 (22:00):
Yeah, what does that mindset come from?
Speaker 14 (22:01):
Well, I jumped in the pool, but I don't even
try to think about that day because I'm I got practice,
you know, so all that stuff was cool for that time,
but now you know I got practiced.
Speaker 11 (22:12):
I gotta learned to playbook.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
So could you see how can you see how it
would be?
Speaker 11 (22:15):
Just where where are you're at day two?
Speaker 3 (22:19):
How's it different?
Speaker 17 (22:20):
How's it different compared to Colorado in Jackson State?
Speaker 14 (22:23):
Well, of course it's the league, so you know it's
it's longer, of course, but learning I feel like I'm
on track, like how you feel like any day two system?
Speaker 6 (22:35):
Can you see how it would be a Jimmy Kmart
any very king?
Speaker 11 (22:38):
Can you see?
Speaker 10 (22:39):
Can you see how it would be hard for someone
like Dylan to share a quarterback room?
Speaker 7 (22:42):
Have you given all your popularity.
Speaker 14 (22:44):
In I just live in my own perspective. I don't
live in other people's perspective of what how somebody would
feel over anything? You know, I don't feel any type
of way as a person in anybody's situation. Like if
it's something I like, it's someone I respect, you know,
like I don't. I don't have any type of negative
or hate in my thought process, So I don't know
(23:06):
how to answer that question truthfully.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
Should do it?
Speaker 10 (23:09):
You had said things could have been worse.
Speaker 6 (23:11):
You're healthy, you're blessed or happy to be here.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
But as a guy who even people in this building
other places have said, you don't have day three talent?
Speaker 5 (23:19):
So how what's the mindset now as far as the.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
Opportunity that's in front of you, as far as proving
the type.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
Of NFL quarterback you could be?
Speaker 14 (23:27):
I mean thank you for saying that, cause I don't
like my job here is to prove people wrong, like
I prove myself right. That that's that's that's and I
and I fully self belief, you know, And uh what
what those people say, That's that's just their opinion. So
I don't truly care they they they don't really live
in my mental space about that type of stuff.
Speaker 11 (23:49):
Really doesn't do anything for me.
Speaker 6 (23:52):
Should do her? Hopefully?
Speaker 12 (23:53):
I kind of a fun one here, and that is
the Calves showed you some love and some support through
this process, and uh, just wondering have you caught Cavs
fever a little bit.
Speaker 6 (24:05):
What do you think of Donovan Mitchell?
Speaker 12 (24:06):
And do you think you can get yourself down to
uh one of these games and joining on some of
the fun.
Speaker 14 (24:11):
Yeah, so of course I wanna go to that game,
but I gotta, of course bring bring some teammates with me,
so we're gonna see hopefully, hopefully they make it down
the stretch and then we'll be able to catch one,
you know, with with a lot of teammates, a lot
of stuff for me don't excite me anim more personally,
So like I like having an atmosphere like friends, family,
(24:32):
you know, around and being able to share the same
experience with them. So I haven't really I seen it
one yesterday. I seen it one yesterday. Uh, But like
I said, I was focused on a playbook. I couldn't
even watch the game, so that that was pretty much it.
But nah, I respect, I respect everything they're doing. And
(24:52):
the downtown. The poster is real nice on there. That's
really cool. Yeah, I'm just excited to be here.
Speaker 11 (24:59):
I you can't get insured. But did you take twelve?
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Just cause of the grade? Everyone's wondering why you took twelve?
Speaker 11 (25:04):
You kind of explain that or well, I took number twelve.
It was the best available number for me.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Does it by two from DeAndre?
Speaker 14 (25:15):
Nah, I'm not trying to buy anything. My signing bonus
aink that high right now.
Speaker 11 (25:21):
I appreciate.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Finally, today the head coach of your Cleveland Browns, Kevin Stefanski,
addressing the media after day two of rookie mini camp.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
All these guys are taking coaching.
Speaker 16 (25:31):
I think that's such a big part of this and
we've talked about it a little bit the last few weeks.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Is no one's a finished product.
Speaker 16 (25:37):
So we're trying to do everything in our power to
develop these young men and and into the you know players,
But it's gonna it's a process.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
It takes time.
Speaker 16 (25:44):
So I like, uh, the attitude of these rookies where
they understand there's work to be put in. I know,
everybody kind of slept pretty well last night, which is good,
and then we'll get another good day tomorrow. But they're
really they're taking coaching, which I appreciate.
Speaker 11 (25:58):
The team was it less?
Speaker 16 (26:03):
It should have been the same amount. Yeah, check Tony's math, guys,
it was the same number.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Of rest he did. He did That was gross.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
Like the heat of the moment.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
I think he ate too much.
Speaker 16 (26:17):
I think the cooking in the kitchen was too good.
So a few less wings next time.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
Monday, right, yes?
Speaker 11 (26:28):
Is that?
Speaker 4 (26:28):
I know it's still early in the Will they be
on the field.
Speaker 16 (26:31):
They do everything they will now on Monday, since they're
coming off the mini camp, they won't do anything on
the field physically. Give them a break, but they'll be
released into the wild on Monday.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
When will you decide when the undrapped what undrafted guys
might be bad?
Speaker 3 (26:49):
What do you mean by that, Jeff? The tryout guys
got it?
Speaker 9 (26:53):
Uh?
Speaker 16 (26:53):
Yeah, we'll huddle up tomorrow. I want to get another
good practice in with these guys. And I'll tell you
what they're there's some guys that are gonna make life
hard on us, making some tough decisions. And that's the
fun part of our businesses.
Speaker 7 (27:05):
Uh.
Speaker 16 (27:05):
They get to go put it on tape and and
that's the resume, and then we'll make some decisions.
Speaker 15 (27:10):
Can he asked you about one of those guys.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Yeah, he's a receiver. He's been impression on him, a
local kid. I know that.
Speaker 16 (27:18):
Uh, you know, I think he's uh, he's acquitted himself,
very nicely, knows what to do, gets open, catches the ball.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
He's done a nice job the homework that you send them.
Speaker 8 (27:25):
You don't want to overwhelm them.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
You want to push themwhelm.
Speaker 10 (27:28):
What's the approach then on the when you're.
Speaker 11 (27:30):
In the moment coaching them up.
Speaker 16 (27:32):
Yeah, very similar, cam and and that you want to Uh,
we want to push them. We want it to be
hard and and you know, as you saw from Mason,
it was hard, but we also were not trying to
be We're trying to be smart too and not put
anybody at at a in in harm's way, so to speak,
because the numbers in line are not as as big
as they typically are, so you have to be really smart.
(27:52):
And I think the position coaches are doing a really
nice job and making sure that these guys were getting
their money's worth in terms of what we're working. But
it's also a teaching tempo the majority of the time
we're out there.
Speaker 9 (28:02):
You said yesterday that you know, both both quarterbacks were
as advertised.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
I think that was the new phrase you used.
Speaker 9 (28:10):
I know it's like only two days here, but did
you notice any difference between what you saw for them
yesterday versus what you saw today. As far as like
a positive progression.
Speaker 16 (28:20):
Yeah, I wouldn't say much. I think everybody's on You
want to be on that progression, Daryl. You want to
continue to get better. Every single day, our installs will increase.
So there was more on their plate today than there
was yesterday, and obviously tomorrow we'll have a little bit
more in a couple of new plays. So with all
of these young players, and certainly at the quarterback position,
you have to know what the install is for that
(28:42):
given day and master those plays for that given day,
and then we'll revisit them at a later date. But
so much of it is is committing these things to memory,
getting a walk through rep in the indoor before we
come out here, and then getting a physical rep. I mean,
there's concepts that we're working in practice here that we
haven't got full speed reps yet from our vets because
the vets can't go offense for defense, so so we're
(29:04):
kind of in the laboratory on a couple few concepts
to see.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
What they look like in live speed. What do you
think of Carson today? Yeah, did a great job. I
mean that's uh.
Speaker 16 (29:16):
You talk about his intelligence and things happened so fast
down and there in the red zone. So the ability
to process quickly is really important. And made a great
play on the ball.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
Yes, quarterbacks, everything's being scrutinized. Locker room and meeting them.
Do you care how they themselves?
Speaker 16 (29:33):
I said evaluate, I didn't say scrutinize, Tony, that's your word.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Uh, go ahead, how they present themselves in interviews?
Speaker 11 (29:39):
Do you watch the interviews?
Speaker 3 (29:40):
This guy does, he watches all of them. How important
is that? How important is that?
Speaker 5 (29:46):
Chief?
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Uh?
Speaker 12 (29:47):
We want all of our players to represent themselves.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
In that's the that's the chief.
Speaker 5 (29:52):
Uh.
Speaker 16 (29:53):
I think, Tony, the these young I think you guys
are getting to know these young players, quarterbacks. Uh, this
whole rookie class. These are some impressive young men. They're
they're really good on the field, they're really good off
the field. But part of a part of talking with
you guys is talking to our fans. We want them
to get a feel for who these young men are.
And I think the more they get to know them,
(30:14):
understand that these guys really want to work hard at
this thing.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
It's their craft. It's now, as I've told them, it's
now their job.
Speaker 13 (30:19):
It was gonna say about.
Speaker 6 (30:20):
Mason that you know, he gets sick and then I
watched him rinsing out helmet himself actually and then go
down and work with again.
Speaker 16 (30:28):
They also apologized to the offensive line because they were
real close to it and almost standing in it. So
but he's fine, He's got the right mentality, Kevin.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
In terms of.
Speaker 17 (30:39):
In terms of a four way quarterback competition, would you
have to add another receiver to more than usual to
a training camp roster or because some camps work out
three four four.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Yeah, it's a good question.
Speaker 16 (30:51):
Potentially, We'll see how the roster shakes out after this weekend.
But if you start to two spot quote unquote where
you put two drill simultaneous, you do want to make
sure that you have enough guys for those type of things.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Yesterday was talking about it like his NFL moments, seen
his name out his locker. Other guys are talking about
walking in the building and maybe.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
See Miles and in there.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
Do you see them go from kind of wide eyed
rookie too?
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Okay, now we're in this, like, can you see that
evolution of them over a week? I think I will
see it. I don't know if I've seen it.
Speaker 16 (31:21):
Yet you know, it's it's early, and yeah, this is
the fun part for these guys. They've been dreaming about
this for their whole life. I mean, whether you heard
your name called in the draft or you're signed after
the draft or whatever it is. So walk in here,
put the jersey on, put the helmet on it. It's
pretty special, and you know, I'm I'm happy to be
a part of that with those guys. But there's also
a lot on their mind. There's a maybe not so
(31:42):
much time to reflect for them just yet, but it
is pretty special for their first time out here as
Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
Kevin, did you have been one play.
Speaker 15 (31:50):
From Dylan's college career and say this is why it's
got to be a field quarterback perform?
Speaker 16 (31:58):
Yeah, you know, it's it's hard because I mean, I
I a couple of plays come to mind, but and
he played long enough where there should be plenty to
choose from. But yeah, I think there's you should probably
as you look at quarterbacks, I think watching those third
down plays are really important in the evaluation of quarterbacks.
That's always been that way and something that I think
with our quarterbacks, we uh definitely value those plays on
(32:22):
those money downs when it's in the fourth quarter and
you got to make a play.
Speaker 6 (32:26):
Kevin, have you used off into quarterbacks two days so far?
How do you think they'll stack up against Kenny and
Joe and they all get together.
Speaker 16 (32:33):
Yeah, not so much worried about how they stack up
per se, Mary Kay, but excited that have them around
the Shawn, Joe, Kenny welcome them into the quarterback room
and you know understand that that's a place where we work
really hard. We talk about a ton of football, high
level football, and I think they'll they'll fit in.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Just they'll fit in really well. Sorry, Daniel, Right have.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
You seen uh, Dylan and sure like on the field
in the moment as you guys are going.
Speaker 6 (32:57):
Through the installers with the plays, like ask questions about
like if they have if they have questions and how
they're really kind of showing you that what they've learned.
Speaker 16 (33:04):
Yeah, there's lots of questions. That's good, there's Uh, this
is the time certainly to ask those questions.
Speaker 5 (33:09):
You know.
Speaker 16 (33:09):
Coach Muskgrave, Coach Reese are in there, uh before meetings,
after meetings, available for text message at night to if
they have questions on certain concepts. So, uh, this there's
no easy way to to just pour an install into
a person, say here's our offense, here's our playbook.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Figure it out. It just takes time.
Speaker 16 (33:26):
Uh, you know there, this is not something that you
can just pick up and snap your fingers.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
I wish it was. So there's just a lot of meetings.
Speaker 16 (33:33):
You're gonna make mistakes, both physical and mental, and uh,
what we're trying to do is coach off of those
and learn from those.
Speaker 11 (33:39):
You had mentioned being the core back as well.
Speaker 16 (33:43):
Right, yes, yeah, he's working really hard, doing a nice
job as rehab, doing a great job, uh in the
meeting room as well.
Speaker 9 (33:49):
Kevin last with the offensive line, or maybe at some
point here it's gonna go through the transition. A lot
of guys in the front of your of the contract
and things like that.
Speaker 5 (34:00):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (34:00):
What have you seeing from a lot of these young
kids you've brought in this weekend?
Speaker 3 (34:06):
Uh?
Speaker 15 (34:06):
And is there potentially uh an opportunity for one or.
Speaker 9 (34:10):
Two of them to to maybe get an opportunity here?
Speaker 3 (34:13):
Yeah, we'll see. I think that's the beauty of this camp.
Speaker 5 (34:16):
Uh.
Speaker 16 (34:16):
And and any opportunity you get on the grass with
your coaches is to show what you can do. So
these are young guys. Coach Bloomgren is working them really hard.
They're they're they're taking coaching like we talked about earlier.
Speaker 3 (34:28):
They're all getting.
Speaker 16 (34:28):
Better and then we'll see how they you know, how
it all shakes out at the end of this thing.
But the focus right now and what they're doing, they've
done a really nice job. Okay, thank you guys, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
