Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome to this week twelve Thursday edition of the From
the Podium podcast. I'm Gabe Colorop. The Browns got their
penultimate practice of the weekend today as they prepare to
hop on a plane on Saturday to head to Vegas
to take on the Raiders this coming Sunday. On today's episode,
you'll hear from offensive coordinator Tommy Reese, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz,
special teams coordinator Bubba Van Trone, offensive guard Joel Botonio,

(00:26):
safety Grant Delpit, and linebacker Carson s.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Wessinger.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
We'll start with offensive coordinator Tommy Reese, who discussed the
first NFL start for his quarterback Shadoor Sanders.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
What do you feel like you can.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
Do to devise a game plan to help should feel
really confident and comfortable.

Speaker 5 (00:43):
Yeah, without getting into specifics, obviously, you know you with
any quarterback, with any player, really, with any quarterback, you
want them to feel as comfortable as possible. You know,
for young players like Dylan and Shadoor, you know that's
pulling from a lot of different avenue that's pulling from
things that you know they've been comfortable with within your system.
Things you know that they like, so that's our number

(01:07):
one job, right. You want to make a quarterback comfortable.
You want to call plays. You want to put in
plays that breathe confidence into them as they hear them,
as they call them, plays that they know they can
make work. And then you press the guys around him
to raise their level of play and play well, to
continue to breathe confidence into young players, into the young quarterbacks.
So that's really been the motivation this week moving forward,

(01:27):
and had a good first day of practice, had a
good walk through this morning, So continue to build off
of that.

Speaker 6 (01:33):
What's the realistic expectation for what a week of just
that week of practice reps can do for Shador in
terms of from last what he did.

Speaker 5 (01:43):
Last Sunday to this sun Yeah, certainly, don't try to
put any sort of expectation on guys, especially young players.
You know, I think we're about our process and about
what drives that process. You know, certainly you look at
having a full week of prep, a full week of
game planning, a full week of him being in the
forefront of your mind as a coach, and he knows
that as a player. You know, you you hope that

(02:06):
all those things benefit and come to fruition on Sunday. Expectations.
You know, I would say we try to limit those.
It's more about, hey, we're gonna pour you know, this
whole week into into making sure that you feel comfortable
and confident, and you know, our goal and our job
is to make sure that he gets gets that feel
and gets ready to go on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Did you think of his debut?

Speaker 5 (02:29):
Yeah, Look, I think it's a hard position to be
to be thrown into, obviously, but that is the life
of being a backup quarterback in this league. So a
lot of guys have have faced that, a lot of
guys have played that that role.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
You know, really proud of the way he fought.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
You know, we had a chance there going into the
last drive and had a chance to really up until
the last couple of plays to go ahead and either
win the game or tie the game up at the
very least there down the stretch. You know, had had
a shot there on the second to last play, and
you know, obviously the last play didn't go our way
and for a couple of different reasons. But really proud
of the way he fought, He stayed resilient, he stayed

(03:05):
in the moment gave us a chance to win the
game at the end of the game, and you know,
we uh will look forward to coming through on those
opportunities down the stretch.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
So much about trying to create explosives, and you mentioned
that played the second last play the home before that
he took a shot. His feels like he has a
skill set for the all deep and likes to drow
the ball deep. Is that something you noticed in something
you maybe lean into into with him?

Speaker 5 (03:28):
Yeah, I think you again make him feel comfortable. What
is what are the things that you feel like he
excels at. You know that drive starter, right, he threw
a big incut to Harold that you know, really got
us into position and in two minutes. You're always looking
for a chunk at some point to kind of get
the drive going and get you in position to have
success down the stretch. So you know, we're gonna tailor
to what he's comfortable with, Taylor, what he's confident in.

(03:50):
You know, we have confidence in our guys down the
field and make that play. We have confidence engaged when
the ball was in the air. I truly believe Gage
is going to make this play, especially the way that
the turn happened and all that we've seen Gauge make
those catches in practice a lot of times, and you know,
we have confidence in our guys to make those and
we have confidence and should order to make those as well.

Speaker 7 (04:08):
I mean we look back at the blitz looks that
the Ravens showed.

Speaker 8 (04:12):
Yeah, you guys in the second half, Just what do
you think overall you guys can can do to combat
that a little bit better?

Speaker 5 (04:17):
Yeah, definitely felt like their plans shifted right with the
quarterback change and the amount of pressure that they brought.
You know, look, there's there's a lot of different things
we can do schematically without getting into all the details,
but certainly changing the launch point we did a couple
of times. We max pro outed a couple of times.
You know, we got to be technically better in some areas.
We have to be in the right checks in some areas.

(04:38):
So you know, that protection there's a lot of different
issues that are caused and it's our job as coaches
to keep defenses off balanced with our protection plan and
then you know, we got to execute in some of
those specific looks as well.

Speaker 9 (04:49):
We take a lot of those problems on the fact
that your first down yard, which is worse than the league.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Right now, could yeah, it certainly could.

Speaker 9 (04:58):
Yeah, like a focal point now or what do you
see the reason.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
For that in terms of just pressure in general?

Speaker 9 (05:06):
Why why are you guys only imaged four yards first out?

Speaker 10 (05:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (05:10):
I think there's probably Yeah, I think there's probably a
bunch of different reasons there. Some missed opportunities, certainly both
run in the pass and something that we're focused on
improving at.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
Tell me, going back to when should you ever made
that start in Carolina? It seemed like early on, you know,
he was drifting backwards, you know, when when pressure would come,
he kind of tried to run backwards. And it seemed
like as a game progressed, he got more comfortable playing
within the pocket. Do you feel like that's something for
him that you know, as he just gets more reps,

(05:42):
he'll get more comfortable playing behind the guys in front
of him.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
I think, you know, that's his first time playing, and
there's probably some some movements there that you want to eliminate.
And I think as you get into the flow of game,
a lot of quarterbacks, you know, find their way as
those first couple of drives get going and you know,
certainly for him, like you know, he stood, like I
referenced that first play, the two minute drive, he stood
in there, knew what he had, knew what he wanted,
stayed in the heart of the pocket, delivered a good ball.

(06:08):
You know, he moved a couple other times on that
last drive to extend or slid a little bit to
find Jerry on the completion on the shallow So certainly,
in the flow of the game, you know, you hope
you kind of settle in and relax your feet a
little bit, and the more you're back there, the more
you feel confident and where those protections are and where
we are protecting him. But we got to do our
part around him and make sure that he feels that

(06:29):
as well.

Speaker 11 (06:30):
He looked like in the second half, you guys did
a little more hurry up, Like is that true?

Speaker 10 (06:35):
And just why why?

Speaker 5 (06:36):
So some of it was circumstantial, right, I mean, you're
in really almost two two minute drives. There are the
last two drives where you're on the ball, you're playing
with a little bit more tempo, and then just you know,
there was a plan of doing some of that in
the game. You know, obviously the game script kind of
changed on us a little bit when the when things change,
so we were trying to get comfortable and confident and
then move ahead. So there were some of it based

(06:59):
on being in two minute and some of it part
of the plan going into it.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Along maybe just two games and in a perfect world,
and I know this is Kevin's decision, you know, with
you and everything, But in a perfect world, would you
still like to see more of Dylan going forward?

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (07:17):
Look, please with you know, we want to continue to
focus on the process of improvement, and certainly Dylan has
areas that he wants to improve on and areas that
we want to continue to coach him on and improve
him upon. I thought we did some some good things
there in the first half that we were trying to
come out of the buy and build off of. You know,
I thought, you know, I think he was seven to
ten when he came out. We hit a couple of

(07:38):
good balls to said, you know, had a missed opportunity
there on the third down late in the first half.
You know, so we I thought Dylan was trajectory wise
in that game, playing the right way and giving us
a chance there to to really have success offensively and
doing some of the things that we've asked him. You know,
we're going to continue to stay with that process, continue
to improve upon the things we need to improve on,

(07:58):
and focus on getting all these better each and every day.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
They throw it a Harold to start out a dead
last drive. I was watching somebody's film break Down and Shooter.
You know, did you guys run the same plate earlier
and notice it that it was going to be open
and then said, hey, would go back to that.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
We did run the same play earlier.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
Yeah, we liked the concept versus their coverages. We called
it earlier. He checked it down to Dave for a
solid game. I think that was probably second and long
to our the earlier point, and you know, we we
felt like the coverage was giving us a chance there.
And you know, we have two guys there on that
route that we trust, and you know, we did a

(08:35):
great job of standing in there and delivering.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
On the gauge pass. Was the ball placement right, you
know where he needed to put it?

Speaker 5 (08:43):
Yeah, I mean it was a you know, you throw
those kind of their fifty to fifty go balls. You know,
I think he's done a nice job through practice of
having the ability to place those balls outside the red line,
and look, it was a good play by the dB.
Give him a lot of credit for raking through it.
But again, when that ball was in the air, I
believed it was going to be caught, you know, both
with strador and and Gauge, and just felt like it was.
It was the way Gage was turning and tracking the

(09:05):
ball felt like a good spot for both of them.

Speaker 8 (09:08):
Jamart was an actor, I think for the first time
this year is what went.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Into that decision. Team decision right and helping other places
for the team.

Speaker 10 (09:17):
You look at.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
The Raiders defenses and start with Crosby for you.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
And then yeah, certainly.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Tackle uncertain again, like, how do you go into it
prepared to stop him?

Speaker 5 (09:28):
Yeah again, without too much schematic, He's obviously a great player,
extremely disruptive both run and pass. Even when he's not
getting to the passer, he affects so many passes by
getting his hands up, getting him passing lanes. I think
he does a nice job of reading the quarterback and
getting when he's not getting a great rush, of finding
ways to mirror and and disrupt the ball relentless front

(09:50):
side back side of the run game.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Like his motor is tremendous, and he's one.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
Of those guys across the league that can really impact
games and change games defensively. Hit a strip sack against Dalla,
he had an interception against Chicago, Like, he finds ways
to impact the game. So it's all of our jobs
offensively to make sure that we, you know, neutralize that
the best we can understand. He's gonna win some of
his matchups, but try to eliminate the one on ones
as much as possible, more than any big time Yeah,

(10:17):
his his playtime is about as high as any of
those guys in the league. Like you look at that
upper echelon group of rushers, his playtime's about the highest.

Speaker 12 (10:30):
Rowaway and miscommunication like a player two before in the
end zone.

Speaker 5 (10:37):
Was not a throwaway like the scrambled drill you're talking
about to the left. Yeah, probably, yeah, yeah, probably a
little bit of a miscommunication, you know, probably Also if
you're gonna miss missing it in a safe way on
a broken play, we had a couple more downs there
for a chance, so as he extends it, probably a
little bit of a not on the same page on
the scrambled drill and a little bit of hey, I'm

(10:57):
gonna put this in a place where we could get
it or it could fall safe. I thought it was
a good decision by him.

Speaker 9 (11:03):
I think Gabriel and Sanders couldn't be more different. I mean,
besides one's lefty and one's righty. Gabriel seems to be
robotic as a quarterback and follows everything to the script,
and it seems like is like wants to free wheel
it and get excitable and throw it down field more.
You have to adjudge, yeah, mentality and calling plays.

Speaker 5 (11:23):
It's funny like a coach a long time ago told me, like, hey,
when you play the quarterback position, there's an art in
the science, right, Like you can't be full time artists.
You can't be full time scientists. The great ones kind
of have that blend of when is it time to
play on script and when is it time to play
within the system, and then when is it time to
let your instinct take over. I think with all quarterbacks

(11:45):
you try to find that right blend. Right, I don't
think you can play this game completely by the book,
and I can't don't think you can play this game
completely like a cowboy, right, There's you got to have
the blend of both and that's something we try to
instill in our guys. And I would say Shador has
some ability to play within the framework of the offense,
just like Dylan has some ability to play free and

(12:05):
create plays. And it's you know, as young players, I
think in this league, you're trying to find your footing
on how to do that right. And so for both
of them, that's something that you know, we discuss and
we talk about and hey, we have a premier look,
let's play within it. Hey, go bail us out to
make us right and find a way to make a play.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
They're opposite in their style.

Speaker 5 (12:24):
I mean, I think they both have strengths and weaknesses
that you know, you try to heighten their strengths and
minimize their weaknesses.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
You know. I think.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
They both play the quarterback position. They both prepare the
way that you want quarterbacks to prepare. You're looking at,
you know, maximizing their opportunities. I don't, I guess I
don't really look at it in terms of comparing the
two of them.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
A whole lot something.

Speaker 13 (12:46):
To be said for giving Shadur an opportunity to throw
to some of the guys.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
I mean, I know you guys do that one to gauge.
But you know you've got Kaden back, You've got Gas
you feel so comfortable with his hungry dog.

Speaker 5 (12:59):
Yeah, I would say there's certainly you have opportunities from
July till now to throw with everybody. Again, that's part
of being the backup, you know. But I would say
a lot of those guys that are out there he
was drafted with, he's repped with, you know, I certainly said,
and Jerry might be a little bit on a different page,
but you know, I feel like we've done a nice

(13:20):
job since July of really maximizing opportunities for all of
our quarterbacks. Right, we started with four and we found ways,
found creative ways to get all of them opportunities. And
is it perfect, No, It's never gonna be perfect. Certainly
this week will help tremendously of building some of the
rapport and some of the timing between the quarterback and
the receivers. And I know Schador feels really good and

(13:43):
confident about that.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Up next, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz delivered high praise to
Miles Garrett, who is playing at an insane level this season.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
We'll make it a working launch.

Speaker 12 (13:55):
It's always It's like when you're at the NFL owners
meetings and they have that breakfast and like you're supposed
to be like eating breakfast, it's always the stupidest thing.
You're like trying to eat when everybody's asking questions. Yeah, yeah,
that was like I did like five of those. I
never never ate one thing in five years. All right,
which you.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
Got, Well, what more can you say about Miles Gear
the season that he's having and have you ever seen
anything like him?

Speaker 12 (14:27):
He's got a lot more to give, and you know,
I'm super proud of him for where he is right now,
but this isn't this isn't the the final story yet.
You know, he's doing a really good job within the scheme.
And like I've told you guys before, I'm always most

(14:50):
proud of the way he plays to run as opposed
to how he rushes the passer.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
And it's a lot to be proud of the way
he rushes the passer.

Speaker 12 (14:56):
But to have the production he has, with the opportunities
he's had and also with the attention that he receives,
is it's it's fun to watch more game because we
got a lot more games. We got a lot more
games to play, and there's a lot more great things

(15:16):
he can do for us, you know. So that's that's
sort of where I am with it. Yeah, I mean,
we don't need to post mortem the season before the final.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Chapter has been written.

Speaker 12 (15:28):
And you know, he's got he's got a lot of
chapters to write.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
I said, do you.

Speaker 14 (15:32):
Feel like, especially after challenging him, you know, earlier this
off season after he got the contract, do you feel
like he's playing at the highest level that you've seen
him since you've been here.

Speaker 12 (15:43):
He's playing at a high level. Miles has always played
at a high level. But I do appreciate his attitude
of working hard to improve. You know, told that anecdote
a couple of weeks ago, being on the practice field
and just like not wanting to come off and waving
waving any sub out, which again, is is really unusual.

(16:06):
I know, you guys like to talk a lot about
who gets first team reps, but you know, in that case,
that was, you know, that was It's fun to watch.
But he's he's he's still hungry, He's.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
He wears it really well.

Speaker 12 (16:22):
He knows he's a marked man, and you know, and
I think number one, he's he's also really done a
good job of of celebrating the other guys around him,
which has probably allowed him to have a little bit
more success. I don't know that his pass rush win
raid has really improved a lot, but having some other

(16:44):
guys up there that you know, that he encourages, that
he works with, has made a big difference for him,
particularly inside pass rush.

Speaker 9 (16:53):
Alex Wright got a new deal, so he's here for
the long run.

Speaker 12 (16:57):
Yeah, really, yeah, really really proud of Alex too. Alex
has played really good football for us and just been
derailed by a couple of injuries most you know, most
notably the one last year, and was really being we
really missed Alex last year. Number one. He is a
physical presence in the run game. He's got great size.

(17:20):
You know, some of our best plays on the edge
are are Alex taking on polers and knocking tight ends back, and.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
You know, those are things we really value.

Speaker 12 (17:30):
And he's and he's rushed really well for us too
and been a good compliment. You know, a lot of
times we you know, we look at individual performances. You know,
it's hard to ignore Miles as individual performance. But when
it's all said and done, d Line has a lot
of like O line components to it in that it's

(17:51):
the production of the group, you know, and you know,
like generally offensive line, it's not just one guy that
gets beat or one guy that has success. And it's
it's pretty much the same way across the defensive line,
you know, And Alex has played a really strong part
of that. We have a good rotation up there. Hopefully
we'll be able to get him back on the field

(18:11):
pretty quickly. But yeah, and I think it's a good
sign also when you're drafting and developing your players. We
know how hard it is to sign those guys, you know,
pass rushers aren't cheap finding those guys in the in
the free agent market. So I think it's a good
sign for us that we're developing some players and getting

(18:34):
production out of guys like Alex and Z and Cam
and you know, all across the board.

Speaker 14 (18:40):
What about Parsing getting the NFL Rookie of the Week,
Gunner and you know Grant today and I think after
the game mentioned playing at like an all pro level,
not just a Rookie of the year level, Like what what.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Do you think in that regard?

Speaker 12 (18:55):
Yeah, I gave him a I gave him a big
compliment on Monday because.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
I was I was with Ray Lewis's first three years
in the NFL, and.

Speaker 12 (19:10):
I don't think and Ray's obviously a Hall of Famer,
maybe the best ever to play the middle linebacker position,
but the command that Carson has now in a lot
of respects took took Ray his third year in the
league before you know it. You know, middle linebacker is
a harp is A linebacker is a hard position to

(19:31):
play for a young player. You have to have all
of the run fits, you have to have the physicality
to play and there, you have to be a productive tackler.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
You have to know all the blitzes.

Speaker 12 (19:43):
You have to you know, you have to have all
the coverage components, and a lot of times it takes
guys sort of piece meal to put all of that
stuff together, right.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
You know, they come out.

Speaker 12 (19:53):
As rookies and you know why, they really played the
run well, but they got work on the past or
they don't really rush one. That's no disrespect to any
player that's ever played. It's just that's what goes on
in the NFL. It's a very difficult position, you know,
and he's been right in the middle of it, and
it's been fun to watch because not only does he

(20:16):
do all that stuff well, but he has great command.
He's a great leader for us. He's our play caller,
very rarely makes a mistake. When he does make a mistake,
it doesn't repeat. And he's very productive on the field.
So that's well deserved from him. But you know, a
little bit, like we were talking about Miles, you know,
that's not going to stand alone for this season. We

(20:36):
got a lot of football to play and there's a
lot of plays left for Carson to make. You know,
we talked earlier and you guys saw a lot of
training camp and you saw the interceptions and the plays
on the ball, and early in the season we weren't
what we weren't seeing that, and we just said, you know,
it's just a matter of time because the guy's a
magnet for the ball and we've started seeing that recently too,

(20:58):
game changing plays like that. So really proud of his
of his development. Really big hats off to him, big
big hat off or big salute to coach Tarvor, who
does a great job with the linebackers in general. But
to get a rookie producer at that level is is

(21:19):
pretty significant.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
That played he made with Lamar in space.

Speaker 12 (21:25):
I mean, that's that's going to be on our teach
tape for how to play the zone read the way
that we play it. There's a lot of different ways
people play, like some people surf the defensive end, some
people do a chase scrape, and some people have dedicated guys.
But the way we played it there, that's exactly how
you want to play it. And you know that's that's

(21:46):
not an average quarterback out there, you know, I mean
that's an open field, you know, open field nightmare. And
you know you could just see Carson just low blood
pressure out there, took his took, took proper leverage, got
off the block, you know, started the game with that,
and they weren't they they didn't go back to it

(22:08):
as the game went on, and you know, I think
that had.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
A lot to do with it.

Speaker 12 (22:11):
Yeah, but there's there's a lot of players over the
next however many years that are going to see that
play because anytime you put plays like that on tape,
coaches use that to say like, Okay, this is technique
we're talking about, this is how we wanted to be played. Hey,
let's take a look at some plays on tape. We
call them teach dape plays, and that was one.

Speaker 7 (22:30):
Of them on the Marque and Buds play this past Sunday.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
If it's much of a.

Speaker 7 (22:38):
Copycat league that this is, and the attention that the
push pushed the past couple of years, you think we'll
start seeing more variations kind of like what the Ravens did.

Speaker 12 (22:49):
Yeah, I mean they ran one the week before, two
weeks before where they tossed them all back. You know,
and you know, when it's all said and done, everything
you do has strengths and weaknesses as far as you
know what it's designed for, what it's good for. And
you know you got fourth and inches right there, and

(23:10):
you have a chance to get a stop and stop
a quarterback sneak, you gotta you gotta take that shot
at it. If there was a defense that stopped everything,
offenses would never score a point. But we we did
miss a we did miss a recognition on that. We
gotta we we gotta get players across when that push

(23:30):
guy doesn't push when he goes to the outside.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
We should mirror that.

Speaker 12 (23:33):
We didn't in that and we were little too. We're
a little too aggressive on the sneak, and it set
us up for that. But schematically we we could have
Can we stop that play for zero in that defense?
Maybe not, but we we shouldn't give up a touchdown.
Maybe stop it for three or four, But who knows

(23:54):
the way that goes. You know, they pick up a
first down there and grind clock out, and all of
a sudden they're kicking a few your goal maybe with
two seconds left, and you know, lose. So you know,
we're never trying to give up a touchdown, you know,
but at least offense had a chance to have time
and go make that play. I'm not I'm not trying

(24:15):
to make light of it or anything else. We got
to stop that play and we can play it better.
But the philosophy there was take the easiest play away,
which is quarterback sneak in that situation, try to make
them do something else. We just didn't play it well
enough when they did, because most teams don't want to
go sideways on fourth and inches, you know, particularly in

(24:35):
that situation they did. They made the play. Hats off
to them.

Speaker 9 (24:40):
The rainers of a really good, really good rookie running
back and.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
We're down to like one receiver.

Speaker 9 (24:46):
So does that simplified the defensive game plan.

Speaker 12 (24:51):
Now, it's never easy when you're facing those kind of guys,
particularly pours. He might be the best pass receiving tight
end in the league right now. He runs like a
wide receiver. He runs great routes. He has great instincts
to sit down in zones. He's good down the field.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
You know.

Speaker 12 (25:08):
So we got our work cut out for us with him.
They really missed him when he was out early in
the season. Their offense really took a big step back.
And now they have him, they have him back. So
and I'd say this with with the running back with
Gente is his tape.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Looks a lot better than his stats.

Speaker 12 (25:27):
You know, you look at his stats, he's averaging three seven,
which you know, you know isn't isn't great, But then
you watch his tape and you don't see where that
is because that guy is breaking tackles, making people miss.
You know, there is like nothing to hit on him.
He's like a bowling bow out there, five foot eight
and change and two hundred and fifteen hundred and twenty pounds.
He's a power running back. You know, I think that

(25:50):
he's going to be a good player, But just like
every week, we gotta we got to try to stop
the run. We gotta try to try to force them
to throw it and taking his his part of the
run game away. They're a really good wide zone running
team and you know it'll be a great challenge for US.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Special teams coordinator Bubba and Tron talked about the groove
that kicker Andre Smidt has settled into.

Speaker 14 (26:14):
What did you think of the playback grant to recover
that football last week?

Speaker 15 (26:18):
It was an awesome, awesome play he got. He did
a nice job getting a release into coverage and fortunately
came up with the ball.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Give us a good, good spot.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Did you like the way you guys bounce back from
We spent all the last week talking about the issues
against the Jesse. You like how you guys talks.

Speaker 10 (26:36):
Back at the unit.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (26:37):
I think they responded how I thought they would. We're
still not even remotely close to where we should be though,
just too many, too many mistakes like the down ball
at the goal line. We made the correction against Minnesota
and we go go out and have a repeat. Are
different player, but we just got to be smarter.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Did you get a good.

Speaker 10 (26:58):
I mean, I don't have a challenge.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
When you look at it, did you think that.

Speaker 10 (27:02):
He was able to avoid to go line.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
Or when you see him?

Speaker 15 (27:05):
I mean I thought so. I mean that's why we
challenged it. I don't know what the We didn't really
get an explanation. What did you guys think, Yeah.

Speaker 16 (27:20):
It's like.

Speaker 9 (27:22):
To call it, yeah whatever they called it was gonna.

Speaker 15 (27:25):
Stand field, Yeah, yeah, I was, Yeah, I was. I
didn't understand it.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
What was the what was the mistake or was he
just coming in too fast or.

Speaker 15 (27:39):
Yeah, And I think at that point you don't even
have to like really get on the ball. I think
if you're gonna do anything, you could like bat the
ball back, like just bat it back. You don't have
to physically go to the ground at that point and
be under control when you're doing it, if you're gonna
do that. But I don't think at that point the
balls rolling like parallel parallel to the to the goal line,

(28:01):
it's not really going towards the to the line. So
just and if it is just bat the ball back,
I don't think you have to get to the ground.

Speaker 12 (28:09):
About these uh.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
Greater special teams, what are you guys emphasizing this week?

Speaker 15 (28:14):
Yeah, they have they have good uh, they have good specialists,
both the punter and the kicker, Cole and Carl Center good.
Cole does a nice job with his directional punting, big
Leg and the returners are talented and they get a
good core group. They do top the bottom. They're they're
pretty good. Tucker uh Bachmann mostt all those guys.

Speaker 17 (28:38):
Have done a good job.

Speaker 15 (28:38):
Lob has done a good job as a returner. So
priority on coverage definitely this week with with going against
fast returners.

Speaker 18 (28:47):
That putt you know, that was months obviously just talked
about it, but wins seemed to be whirling and Corey
put it deep in the air with that kind of
like the game plan going, you know, gets a rookie returner.

Speaker 10 (29:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (29:02):
Yeah, there was definitely some weather there in the game.
Obviously we won't have that this week, but the wind
going toward the dog pounds was challenging for a number
of reasons.

Speaker 10 (29:14):
But yeah, was a was a.

Speaker 15 (29:16):
Good nice job by him to elevate the ball. He
I think the ball is from what I remember was
over five to three, which is really which, which is
a really good hang. And then obviously with that win,
you're gonna get movement on the ball too, so he
gave us an opportunity to get on the ball.

Speaker 4 (29:31):
So just Andre and how how well he's been doing
for you?

Speaker 15 (29:36):
Yeah, he's he's he's been consistent. The practice reps have
carried over to the game. The preparation has been good.
So we like where he's at. Hopefully we stay on
that same path.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
With Corey. You know, he's in the top whatever and
inside the ten and it's head of twenty. But how
would you describe his overall? You mentioned a couple of
times on some of the Blobbie turn.

Speaker 15 (30:00):
Yeah, yeah, I think that I would say he's just
been a little inconsistent for him just being able to
get the necessary hang times with the distances that we're hitting.
Did a better job this past week, for sure.

Speaker 10 (30:12):
I thought he.

Speaker 15 (30:13):
I thought he played well this past week. The early
half of the season, he was not playing to his
I would say ability. So going to just continue to
stay on that trend of being able to match the
distance with the hang times.

Speaker 10 (30:28):
It's kind of a boring week.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Offensive guard Joel Botonio is our first player up who
talked about the first career start for Shador Sanders coming
up on Sunday.

Speaker 16 (30:36):
You know, it's unusual for you to be playing with
a new quarterback.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
Thoughts on this, Yeah, you know, unfortunate for Dylan to
to get banged up, you know, concussion and stuff like that.
Give you know, Shadora a full week of practice to
you know, get ready to play and and you know.

Speaker 10 (30:56):
We'll see how We'll see how it goes. How tough
is it?

Speaker 3 (31:00):
We know, how hard is it coming in the game,
you know, definitely playing and comes in the second half
against that defense, but just from a protection standpoint and
how to deal with everything that the Ravens bring, Yeah,
it's tough. You know, backup quarterback. You talked to a
lot of the guys that were like long time backups
in the league. It's a tough job because you know,
you have to come in and understand with not very
many reps, if any during the week of practice.

Speaker 10 (31:22):
And then the Ravens, I think once they.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
Saw that, they gave us some avvy up seven up
looks where it's like, all right, they can any of
these guys can come and kind of kind of make
a choice. And we didn't really get that much early
in the in the first half, so they might have
saw you know that, and it's it's definitely a tough thing.
But given us a week of prep and understanding this week,
hopefully will you know, help us get settled and have

(31:44):
a plan for those different looks.

Speaker 6 (31:46):
What is that adjustment for you guys as an offensive
line to a new quarterback, both in the moment and
then this week, I mean, how do you try to
maybe accelerate that process?

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Yeah, in the moment, you gotta you know, listen to
the adens, listen to kind of how he operates in
the huddle. You know, each quarterback kind of like each
play is designed to have like a certain drop or
a certain thing, and and you have to kind of
understand that, like, oh, this is you know, how he's
doing it.

Speaker 10 (32:15):
And so you kind of.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
Learn from that and get understanding of, you know, what
you're doing with each guy.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
What are you expecting to see from each door?

Speaker 10 (32:23):
And Yeah, I mean his his mental work this week
has been prepping hard.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
He's been doing some extra walkthrough said and getting understanding,
you know, and he wants to perform well.

Speaker 10 (32:33):
We want to perform well.

Speaker 3 (32:34):
For him, but I think he's gonna have a better grasp.

Speaker 10 (32:37):
But we're trying to do an offense.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
And and you know, hopefully that translates to some some
good drives, to sustained drives from some points court.

Speaker 10 (32:45):
You know, it's kind of what we're looking for.

Speaker 9 (32:48):
Left you back through writing now sort of back to
the offensive line.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
Miners, which is I think it's par for the course.
You know, we were getting used to dealing a little bit.
But once I started playing with I had never really
played with Lefty. It's not too it's not too terribly
different from one to the other.

Speaker 14 (33:04):
Joel, he's such a high energy personality and high energy player.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
Does that rub off on the rest of the offense.
It just seemed like in that second half when he
came in there just everyone seemed to have a little
bit of a Papender style. Yeah, you know, the crowd,
you know, brought some energy as well when he came
in and and and there is some some energy when
a new guy comes in and in play. So I
think everybody felt that a little bit, and hopefully you
can carry that over and just you know, try and

(33:29):
try and bottle up and use it to our advantage.

Speaker 14 (33:32):
He's obviously the forty second starter since ninety nine. Do
you even know at this point. How many starters different
starters you thought.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
I just went over it. It was like low twenties.
What do you remember, Dan, twenty three or twenty four? Maybe, yeah,
a lot.

Speaker 18 (33:48):
Did you tell or kind of give him advice to
try to limit the energy a little bit too?

Speaker 3 (33:53):
Well, like this seemed like he was kind of playing
into the crowd. Well the first play, I was like,
I was like, hey, make sure you quite the crowd down.
And then I watched the replay and he was hyping
him up, and I was.

Speaker 10 (34:04):
Like, well, I can't really hear here, but you know,
it was it was, you know, his moment to play.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
But I think as the game got on, you know,
there was a couple of moments where he was getting
really you know, excited, and those moments are important, but
like there's a fine line of like great energy and like, hey,
let's get the next play call in, you know, and
so I think he'll understand that as he goes. But
you know, when you're in that moment, he's kind of
just playing off feelings and those were kind of the
moments that he was he was playing with. Yes, he

(34:30):
gets the first reps with you guys are at the
first two offense this week, Like, how can you just
as a unit about making him feel more comfortable, trying
to get him just prepared as much. Yeah, like going
through the protection meting this morning, the third down looks,
it's like, all right, what do you see? What do
you want to know? You know, if we're on silent
count and I'm looking back, like do you need me
to tell you something? Like who we're going to and
just just his understanding of what he wants to see

(34:53):
in those kind of looks. You know, getting the play
calls and getting the reps in and practice all that
stuff helps to make everybody feel a little bit more comfortable. Obviously.

Speaker 14 (35:02):
Max Crosby's another one of these lead fast rushers mostly
just the challenge that.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
He sort of presents to you guys.

Speaker 10 (35:09):
Yeah, great player.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
I mean plays tremendously hard, plays a lot of snaps,
like most of the you know, maybe at seventy percent,
he's probably at like eighty five ninety percent of the snaps,
maybe more. But I think he plays hard, and it's
it's contagious, like the whole D line kind of plays
hard off of that. But I mean he's so slippery,
like you see him kind of moving and doing these things,
and he just kind of slips off blocks or finds
a way to get his hands on the ball, and

(35:31):
and you know, I think we'll have a decent plan
to try and try and contain that.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
He faced a lot of the premier pass rushers this year, Mike.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
Parson, TJ Watt or Miles, Miles every Day Pice.

Speaker 9 (35:43):
Kind of how does Max get from those guys.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
That you should say, Yeah, I mean, they're all in
that tier one right, Like although eight and hunch Set,
all those guys are Tier one pass rushers. I feel
like maybe he's like they're all great, but maybe he's
a little bit more craft like, like slippery is the
right word, Like, like I mean, Miles is elite and
he's gonna run at you and go through you, where

(36:06):
sometimes Max is like, oh, I'm gonna go here and
kind of play by it, like JJ Watt on the
backside of runs where he would set people up and
then play behind him.

Speaker 10 (36:13):
You know, there's all those little aspects.

Speaker 3 (36:15):
Where Miles is like, I'm coming to you know, make
the play and makes the play. So those are maybe
some of the differences, but they're all they're all great
in their own ways.

Speaker 9 (36:22):
What about y'all can do that off It's the line kind.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Of you know, take for a matchup to match up
upcast these guys that have the.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Trust of yourself.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, you
want to be fundamentally sound, You want to trust what you.

Speaker 10 (36:35):
Do well as a as a pass blocker. But each
guy is so.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Different that you kind of have to to play into
that and hopefully gets some chips and some double teams
and some slidesier way to to give you a little
bit more confidence to be a little bit more aggressive
with these guys.

Speaker 14 (36:48):
What about Max's ability to get hands on football side plane.

Speaker 10 (36:52):
I think he's got like four bats.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
Already this season.

Speaker 10 (36:55):
Yeah, it's it's pretty impressive.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
I think sometimes when he gets chipped or double teams,
he'll make a contentfing to be like, all right, I'm
not getting to the quarterback on this play, and then
he almost starts playing volleyball at the line of scrimmage,
which is is pretty impressive. I think those guys just
have such an instinct for, you know, plays and the
way they do things that he's like, yeah, you know,
I'm not gonna affect the quarterback on this play. But
I can still maybe make him play for my defense.

Speaker 13 (37:18):
That they are second in the NFL in yards rush alile,
So it's gonna be tough seletting.

Speaker 11 (37:28):
Isn't it.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
Yeah. Yeah, they they do a good job. Like I said,
their front I think plays hard. They this last couple
of games, they've been putting, you know, four or five
guys on the line. You know, they've been a four
dawn early in the season, but they put five guys
on the line last couple of weeks. I think they're
trying to find a way to you know, have an
identity on defense, and they've done a good job. So
we'll be focused trying to get que galling this week.

(37:49):
What do you think of Joel when you see Miles
and just streaked and he's on the Yeah, it's great.
I think I's how you like to me. Sacks are
such a I mean, they're obviously a great at but
I think he's been this dominant, you know, for two
three years now, like he's I think he's at you
know what, he's playing at a very high level. But
you know, if you look at his pressure rates and

(38:10):
his his pressures, they're probably pretty similar to what he's
had they're just like converting the sacks. I think it's
a credit to Mason, and you know, our guys inside
that are are really rushing the quarterback well not giving him,
you know, the quarterback.

Speaker 10 (38:23):
A chance to step up.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
So it's been a group effort. But I mean it's
been in present. I'm like, keep you know, break the record,
keep going, you know, do something. But our defense is
playing great, and like we said, we're trying to pull
our weight on the offensive side.

Speaker 10 (38:34):
Of the ball.

Speaker 19 (38:35):
And do you feel like he should get NFL even
if you guys.

Speaker 13 (38:41):
Are even us MS.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
Yeah, I mean if you look at the games and
the stats, I think he it's been the best defensive
player in the league and if that's what the award is,
then he should get it. And Carson should be the
defensive Rookie of the year because he's playing out of
his mind too. So from your.

Speaker 14 (38:56):
Perspective, that interior pressure me, how how much harder is
it three pressure on the inside to stop it.

Speaker 17 (39:03):
At a pressure?

Speaker 3 (39:04):
Yeah, I mean you have a plan to you know,
chip Miles or slide his way. But when Malik and
Mason and Shelby and those guys are are making their
presence felt on the on the.

Speaker 10 (39:14):
Inside, like it gives one less escape plane.

Speaker 3 (39:17):
You know, if Miles is rushing high at nine or
ten yards and the quarterback can step up to six
or five, like, you don't have a chance.

Speaker 10 (39:23):
But if those guys are putting pressure to seven or
eight yards.

Speaker 3 (39:25):
Like, the only way he can go is back, and
that's where Miles has a chance to you know, finish
the play. So it's it's very symbiotic relationship inside passion outside.

Speaker 10 (39:35):
It's a big word there. I know I tried in
huh that's the right word.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
But yeah, safety grand delp it says Carson Swessinger is
not only playing at a defensive Rookie of the year level,
but an all pro level.

Speaker 19 (39:49):
What are your thoughts on chedor now is the starting quarterback?
And maybe where are some things you've seen your pasling practice.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
Where the scouts.

Speaker 8 (39:57):
Yeah, I think he's been ready for this moment, even
practicing against him, like he didn't when he's.

Speaker 16 (40:05):
With the scout team and stuff.

Speaker 8 (40:06):
He was always you know, not not not tryna throw
any turn turn, always takeaways and stuff like that, always
taking the right check down and stuff like that. So
you know he's had that start of mentality, So, uh,
you know, excited to see him this weekend.

Speaker 14 (40:19):
Grant, how how happy are you for Allen's today getting
that extensive.

Speaker 10 (40:24):
He got extension?

Speaker 15 (40:25):
Yeah, okay, I gotta go check that out.

Speaker 8 (40:30):
I mean, but there's another guy that's been uh ready
for the moment, and you know with all the addresses
we've had, he's been uh very productive.

Speaker 16 (40:37):
So uh, I'm excited for him.

Speaker 10 (40:40):
His family.

Speaker 16 (40:40):
Man, that's big time.

Speaker 10 (40:42):
When you look at uh brock powers.

Speaker 3 (40:44):
Obviously he had that unbelievable rookie year and yeah, what
just what do you see out of him? And I
think you guys, that's a pretty good success against some
last year.

Speaker 10 (40:51):
How were you able to contain.

Speaker 8 (40:52):
H Yeah, I mean I think it's kind of like
where's Waldough, you know, where's eighty nine?

Speaker 16 (40:56):
I think he's a he's a focal.

Speaker 8 (40:57):
Point of their offense, passing game, uh, in everything. So
you know he's a good player and uh they try
to build around himself.

Speaker 19 (41:04):
But you know what do you see the genior so
hard the season?

Speaker 2 (41:08):
I know it's not exactly what they've.

Speaker 3 (41:10):
Been hoping for me.

Speaker 16 (41:12):
What do you say? Yeah, I mean, you know it's
been a tough season for him.

Speaker 8 (41:14):
I think that like twelve touchdowns, thirteen picks, so a lot,
you know, some of those takes on his fault and
stuff like that. But yeah, you know, hopefully with our
guys put some pressure on him up front and uh,
force him into some bad decisions.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
Think it's that to the game. You said Carson should
being on Pro Yeah. I mean that's pretty heavy set
off to say, reco. So why do you think he
deserves that recognition? Uh?

Speaker 8 (41:39):
And I think despite like the rookie things, just like
you know, the statistics of it, you know, and uh,
I don't know who votes for that type of stuff
and whatever, but uh, you know, just saying that he's
at a really high level, and that's all I'm really
trying to say.

Speaker 16 (41:55):
No, and uh it's no secret. You know, everybody knows it,
so you know, keep on He and Myles Denzel me, Uh,
you know, lead the way.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
You been playing behind him for five months now, How
have you seen that kind of take the best steps?

Speaker 16 (42:08):
Yeah, na, I saw it early.

Speaker 8 (42:10):
I I ain't gona lie. I saw it earlier in camp.
I think everybody saw it in wasics. You know, we
knew that he was gonna be around the ball a lot.
I've been told him make a uh signature celebration.

Speaker 16 (42:18):
He still hasn't done it yet.

Speaker 8 (42:19):
So un man, he's he's, he's around that bar. So
it's aspiring. Uh yeah, makes everybody else wanna make plays too.

Speaker 3 (42:27):
A gring with the tear that Miles is on, you
find yourself rewinding in the place sometimes when you're watching
film watch him a.

Speaker 8 (42:32):
Couple of times diff Yeah, yeah, yeah, sometimes I don't
even know what happens really, I just you know, you know,
he got to sack.

Speaker 16 (42:37):
Then you go back and watch it. He's throwing people
face plants, the both feet in the air. So uh,
he's he's I.

Speaker 8 (42:43):
Think he's the when it's all saying that they gonna
be the greatest, never do it and it's.

Speaker 16 (42:47):
Gonna be you know.

Speaker 8 (42:48):
Uh, it's really a privileged plan to geinst him on
on the defense. He really wrecks the game up front,
so you couldn't ask for no, you know, no more
as a dB.

Speaker 3 (42:56):
A big tail this year though with Miles.

Speaker 16 (42:58):
Yeah, uh, of all the years and stuff there, does.

Speaker 14 (43:00):
It feel like this is like purchase the best year
he's had and he's playing.

Speaker 8 (43:04):
On a special Yeah, yeah, I think, Uh, honestly, I
think it's consistent every year, and you know, the stats
pop up more this year maybe, but he's been the
same player since I got here, So it's not like
he's uh, you know, doing I don't know, he might
be doing something different, I don't know, but he's been
unbelievable since I've been So.

Speaker 3 (43:24):
We think the rookie water back then.

Speaker 19 (43:26):
You guys did the same thing with Jill and Chill.

Speaker 16 (43:28):
Yeah, as a.

Speaker 19 (43:28):
Defense, how important is it for you guys to get
the ball back for them and give me your positions,
support them in any way that you can, knowing that
they're will do your work the struggles.

Speaker 8 (43:37):
Yeah, I mean it's it's the same. It's the same
story every week for us. I think as a defense,
we can't control the offense. Does it's it's it's no,
it's nothing I can do to control what they do
except get them the ball back. So that's been our mindset,
our mentality, and uh will continue to do that.

Speaker 3 (43:54):
When you look at that Creators run game, they have
that highly drafted rookie, but then like last week, I
think they ran it three times in the first town.

Speaker 10 (44:00):
Yeah, so what what do you think when you look
at him and in that run game job.

Speaker 8 (44:04):
No, yeah, we know that they probably not happy with their.

Speaker 16 (44:07):
Run game performance last week.

Speaker 8 (44:09):
I know that, uh, you know, any cultural count try
to come out and establish the run, dominate the run game.

Speaker 16 (44:16):
So we know that we go in there every.

Speaker 8 (44:20):
Week with the mentality of we have a great pass defense,
so we just gotta stop the run and uh, you know,
Jess game, we didn't do a good job of that.

Speaker 3 (44:28):
Uh, but we we.

Speaker 8 (44:29):
Still uh making some players and some sacks and stuff.
But I would you gotta stop the run and uh
make it one dimension.

Speaker 10 (44:34):
They go back to fo powers.

Speaker 3 (44:36):
So you see a guy that everybody's getting get a
crack at, you'll have him covered sometimes even some of
the corner.

Speaker 10 (44:41):
Baby.

Speaker 8 (44:41):
Yeah, yeah, they gonna move him around everywhere, you know. Uh,
he has the ability to do a lot of things.
Jess sweeps screens, uh, option routes, you.

Speaker 16 (44:51):
Know, down the field.

Speaker 8 (44:52):
So uh they gonna move around, try to get a
match up for him, you know.

Speaker 16 (44:57):
So, uh he's a good player, and that's what good
players do.

Speaker 1 (44:59):
Why don't we hear there is Carson Swessinger, who is
your Week eleven Rookie of the Week in the National
Football League.

Speaker 6 (45:04):
I know you say you're going to focus on the
awards and all that stuff. That said, it has to
at some point come in and you know that everybody
is talking about you, is up for Defensive Rookie of
the Year, Rookie of the Week, all this that has
to mean something at some base level to be that recognized.

Speaker 11 (45:23):
Yeah, I think, you know, it's cool to see and
things like that, but it's very easy to get caught
up and things like that when when really the focus
is just you know, how do how do we.

Speaker 17 (45:33):
Go out there and win this week?

Speaker 10 (45:34):
What do I have to do to be.

Speaker 17 (45:35):
Prepared for this week?

Speaker 11 (45:36):
And so so, you know, I understand the point, and
obviously it's like I can't just go and avoid it,
but really it's it's just trying to maintain focus on
this week and what we're doing.

Speaker 3 (45:48):
I trust the notion that.

Speaker 19 (45:50):
It seems like from game one you just had a spatial.

Speaker 3 (45:53):
Awareness of where to be in the.

Speaker 13 (45:56):
Field and where the play was happening, and just how
you know, I know what for you play and I
know the ball.

Speaker 19 (46:03):
Is it just you always been that way?

Speaker 3 (46:04):
And where does that come from?

Speaker 10 (46:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (46:06):
I think some of it probably just comes from playing
football for so long, and I think another aspect is
just always trying to find the football, run to the ball.

Speaker 17 (46:14):
I think good things happen when you run to the ball.

Speaker 11 (46:16):
And you know, I think the other part of it
is when you play behind the behind the front four
and and with the with the back end we have,
it makes it pretty easy to just be able to
focus on the ball and and not have to worry
about too much else.

Speaker 3 (46:27):
I was gonna say, as this scheme like helped.

Speaker 11 (46:28):
You with the style, yeah, definitely, uh huh. You know,
the the the way that they preach us to go
and attack and things like that, It you know, allows
us allows me to go out there and not not
have to think about things and and and play fast
and and that's what ends up, you know, for everybody
making plays.

Speaker 9 (46:44):
Chasing Mark game Jews, did you feel the high ankle
injury kind of repeded you there?

Speaker 17 (46:49):
I mean, uh, I wouldn't say that.

Speaker 11 (46:51):
I don't think I'd go out on the field anytime
if if if I didn't feel.

Speaker 17 (46:55):
Like I was, I was going at my best.

Speaker 11 (46:56):
You know, I think if you if you watch it,
he hit a full out of steam. You know, if
you look at the math in it too, you know,
ce squares longer than be squared and.

Speaker 17 (47:05):
Further distance to go. But you know that's that's.

Speaker 11 (47:09):
One of those ones too where it's almost better, uh
you know, give the offense a chance there to go
down and score. So you never want to say that
on defense, but and you know I would, I'm never
gonna want to let.

Speaker 17 (47:20):
Somebody do that. So I was, I was trying to
go get in. But yeah, did you if you had
a chance to catch him on that? I think?

Speaker 9 (47:26):
So?

Speaker 6 (47:26):
Yeah, what was what was the coaching point from that?

Speaker 3 (47:30):
You know, from that specific play when you guys went.

Speaker 6 (47:32):
Back and watched it, what what what would they did
they kind of point out is the lesson from that?

Speaker 11 (47:38):
Well, I think that that play call is a good
play call. I think it's it's fourth and short. Obviously
with the sneak too. Sorry, it's a it's a hard
play to stop. I think the offense, you know, they
can push people. Defense can't really push people. So we
gotta you know, try and be up there and and
ready to do that and really just having having our eyes.
It's it's a hard play when they when they get
out there. You know, even with with what we're in,

(48:00):
you know, maybe having an edge sit on the outside.
But again that's hard to hard to ask just just
with what we're trying to stop inside.

Speaker 3 (48:06):
I know you've conversed all your you know, you've done
a bunch of all year lunch, But did that game
really that Ravens can really showcase it? I mean, I'm
thinking the playing space against them are at the interception
and then there's one where you meet Henry have a
hole for Tiger for loss, Like, does that just show
all that you can do?

Speaker 10 (48:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 17 (48:21):
I think you know that that game definitely gave me
the opportunities to show that.

Speaker 11 (48:25):
And I think there's you know, that's really the goal
going in every game is is trying to make any
of the plays that come my way.

Speaker 3 (48:32):
Once the entries turned the corner.

Speaker 16 (48:33):
Are you actually think it wouldn't be bad?

Speaker 11 (48:37):
I mean, uh, not not necessarily. I was trying to
chase him down, but that something.

Speaker 17 (48:43):
It's just it's just when you watch it. Yeah, you have.

Speaker 19 (48:46):
Plenty of internal motivation of yourself, but to watch Miles
play the way that he does on every single play,
does that have a feel of you even when you're
out there?

Speaker 11 (48:57):
Oh yeah, I think anybody make your plays. I mean,
that's that's the whole thing with defense too. One guy
starts making plays, other guys start making plays, and that's
that's really a big part of it is we we
feed off each other when we're out there.

Speaker 19 (49:08):
And wouldn't it be cool in this season if you guys,
you know, don't have as much to play personal one
as you for, you know, to get the NFL Defensive Player.

Speaker 3 (49:15):
Of the Year, and I need you to get any year.

Speaker 10 (49:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (49:17):
I think it's cool to see what he's doing.

Speaker 11 (49:19):
I mean, it's it's pretty crazy to to be able
to watch that and it's like, you know, you see
some of the stat lines and it's almost just normal,
which is is crazy because it's not normal to see
that and so and then being out there and playing,
you know, with him and and everybody else.

Speaker 17 (49:34):
We have out there, we're making a lot of plays
on defense.

Speaker 3 (49:38):
I got one more work question for you. Grant said
you should be an offer right like you thinks you're
playing that. Well, did you look around the league and
say and compare yourself to other linebackers.

Speaker 11 (49:48):
No, I wouldn't say I compare myself. I think really
when we come in and watch the film I'm looking
at at you know, what I could do better for
for myself and and for and for my teammates. And
you know, I'm really worried about what the guys in
here think of me, and what the coaching staff thinks
of me, and how I can improve in those ways.

Speaker 3 (50:05):
Have you gotten there from Joka and the season that
you're having so far?

Speaker 11 (50:08):
Yeah, he's been helpful. I think he's been great. Just
just going to him with, you know, any questions or
advice has been great.

Speaker 10 (50:15):
How impressive is brock Powers.

Speaker 17 (50:17):
A good player?

Speaker 11 (50:18):
I think you could see their offense runs through him,
and they try and make him a focal point of
their offense.

Speaker 17 (50:23):
And I'll do it.
