Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome to this week eleven, Wednesday edition of the From
the Podium podcast. I'm Gabe Klea. The Browns hit the
practice field today at the Cross Country Mortgage Campus in
Berea to begin installing their game plan for game number
two against the Baltimore Ravens this season at Huntington Bank
Field this coming Sunday. On this episode, you'll hear from
head coach Kevin Stefanski, quarterback Dylan Gabriel, wide receiver Jerry Judy,

(00:26):
and cornerback Denzel Ward. We'll start with head coach Kevin Stefanski.
You talked about what he's seen from Lamar Jackson since
his return from injury.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Okay, starting the work week. Obviously division game at our place.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
At opponent.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
You know, when you're in the division, second game, they
know you, we know them. Obviously a couple of different
players on both sides of the ball they have to
get up to speed on. But obviously you have to
play play your best. You got to play your best
football versus a good opponent at our place. So working
real hard this week on all three sides of ball.
With that, I'll take any questions read well, I'd say

(01:05):
you know some new faces in there. Some guys that
were injured, didn't play in our first game, and now
we're back moving. You know, had the trade there, a
couple of trades there on defense and moving some pieces around, uh,
two different spots, so just evolving. I would say, well,

(01:29):
he's a really good player, and he's played safety, he's
played nickel, he's played their diame linebackers.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
So he's really a.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Player that has always had that versatility. Daniel can show
up anywhere, they can blitz them, he can play that
the deep half, he can cover tight end, so that.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
There's there's really a lot of versatility to what he does.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
I've identified Kevin Moore of the the issues on the
covered units study.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
With there on your guys, Victor h special teams.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, we looked at obviously, Jeff, you look at uh
your you look at the scope of your team every
single week, and certainly, uh, we didn't do a good
enough job in this last ball game, and it's a
major focus of ours, and there's we're.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Looking at any area that we can improve it.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
This is the sixth team in the world against the Railings,
that kind of a different starting quarter.

Speaker 6 (02:28):
What challenge is is that is that.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
I think it's it's no different Tony. We talk about
this every week. Uh, there's injuries, there's all sorts of
things that happen in a course of of a season,
and regardless of position, we trust the guys who are
out there to go, you know, compete through their job
and help us win.

Speaker 7 (02:46):
Time to help them down and working quarterback.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Work some the like the finest development where some of
the areas that you guys hop.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, I think with any young player, you're constantly coaching
and teaching and and you know you're teaching off of
some mistakes on film, and you're also saying, hey, this
is really good. We're going to lean into this, so
that that's a constant dialogue that you're having with Dylan,
with coach musk Grave, with coach Reese in terms of, hey,
this is exactly how it's done. This is where the

(03:18):
read is. I think so often what happens in football
is you prepare quarterbacks and you give them looks. And
you can't give a quarterback every single look in the
course of a given week. Now, with turns and with
reps and with experience, quarterbacks obviously can lean on those.
So with a young quarterback, in this case with Dylan,
you just constantly have to give him as many looks

(03:40):
and talk through coverage as much as you can. And
it's when it's there, trusting the reads and delivering the football.
So I think there's some really good things I continue
to go on, and then we just as an offense
obviously have to do our job all around that position
to have success as an offense.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
How much balancefield?

Speaker 8 (03:58):
What is the quarter from the quarterback, anybody's on topics,
blind wide receiver.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
Who everywhere else?

Speaker 7 (04:03):
Is?

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I think any offense, any defense, any special teams, you
need all eleven on the same page doing their job.
And yeah, that's the coach's job, it's it's the player's job.
It's it's all of us. So any success you're having
as a unit is cohesion amongst all those guys.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
You some row.

Speaker 7 (04:23):
My villain has just.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Off getting one.

Speaker 9 (04:29):
And a couple of.

Speaker 10 (04:33):
So is what's going on here with Jyllam because it
seems like in those moments he has to easy.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
If you campions, I would just caution Mary Kay to
any quarterback young and old, you're gonna misthrows. It's an
occupational hazard that you're likely not going to go one
hundred percent and completion percentage. It's an occupational hazard that
a corner is going to get beat deep every once
in a while.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
So you're not going to make every throws.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
And now I haven't said that you coach every throw
and you say, hey, this could be use your technique here,
or trust what you're seeing here, all those things, and
that's true of young and old quarterbacks.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
How it works.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Yeah, Again, I think big picture, Daniel, You're want to
make sure you're coaching your all your players.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
To have constant improvement.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
And there are things that I know Dylan can do
better and will do better as a young quarterback, and
I know there are things that we as a staff
can do better and putting our guys in position. So
I just think it goes back to I understand the individual.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Aspect of this, but there's also the collective aspect of this.

Speaker 6 (05:47):
Coming back to this game than England. These last couple
of names, How policy works to go.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Yeah, looks like himself. Obviously, the offense is a huge
challenge with him in there. Just his ability as a passer,
is the ability that his running element adds to their offense.
They have playmakers throughout the roster. As the young.

Speaker 6 (06:10):
Players, you have a question, you don't go back. Definitely,
all of them expect to have to discount that.

Speaker 11 (06:20):
Press look at a baseline and timeline and that's kind
of get reh.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
Who's somebody out.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, I can't speak to a you know, a baseline
like that. I would say, you know, with all of
our young players, uh, and having now been around them
since back in April, I'm seeing great strides from our guys,
both in the building on the field.

Speaker 7 (06:45):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
And it's not perfect, it's not you know, we're not
You can seek perfection, you're not going to get it.
But with any of our young players, so I'm really
really excited about how they're working their craft, which is
such a big piece of this. And I think you're
seeing improvement over the course of time. But I don't
think you're gonna see perfect from any position.

Speaker 6 (07:07):
I guess you would have renouned loss. Would you say
eight games.

Speaker 12 (07:16):
That an organization you've seen that.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Yeah, I don't have a you know, an update there, Tony, what.

Speaker 10 (07:26):
Were some of the things that he's like enough tom
ps comed days.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, I thought Tommy and I would create Tommy in
the entire offensive staff Mary Cath thought they did a
really nice job, uh in the game, both leading up
to the game and then in game, and some of
the conversations that that they had and some of the
adjustments throughout the game that you're making, whether personnel or
scheme or otherwise. Again, there's you guys will talk to Tommy.
There's when I know this too. There's always calls you

(07:55):
want back and that type of thing. But I thought
he did a real nice job along with the staff
and operating.

Speaker 9 (08:01):
One of these lines.

Speaker 13 (08:01):
Jerry got involved earlier in the sty in Towns with
the season for California.

Speaker 8 (08:06):
Is that how.

Speaker 12 (08:09):
Well?

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Like we talked about a couple of weeks ago, I mean,
Jerry's our best wide receiver. He's you know, one of
our best players on offense. We know that he's a
a guy that we lean on to do a lot
of things. Are the teams that were going against know
that as as you see. So he's a focal point
of of what we want to be a possibility to
get a cool we'll.

Speaker 14 (08:29):
See composition, but just play the ability?

Speaker 6 (08:36):
What is your I guess what the philosophy hondy hole?

Speaker 8 (08:40):
Uh, you know, players accountable for critic.

Speaker 14 (08:42):
On the stakes to play make a good well.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
I think it's important. Uh, we hold every player accountable
for everything we do. I'm accountable for everything we do.
So you just try to be very open and transparent
and honest with your football team. A lot of that
doesn't make it outside this building. And then that's just
kind of part of being a family as you keep
things in house. But our guys understand, uh that part

(09:09):
of the accountability is is a shared accountability.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
So it's all of us.

Speaker 14 (09:16):
One more time, it's awesome, m where.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
I would just tell you Daniel, it's our job as
as coaches and and certainly the players to go be
productive on offense and and it's very I understand that
the a lot of the focus goes to the quarterback position,
but I look at it also globally and try to
look at the ways that we can improve across the board,
and whether it's how we're designing some of those plays,

(10:00):
who are putting in those spots in some of those plays.
I think that's as big a part of it as well.

Speaker 10 (10:06):
Take the feeling for dayge, you like to ask more
thereof you guys can target.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Yeah, I think we maybe how many times have we
target said in the game. For I think that's we
trust said. He's in positions where we can start with
him in the progression, move to him in the progression.
We trust him to get open, we trust him to
catch football. Thought he caught a really uh you know,
a good ball over the middle in a contested moment.
So he's definitely a big part of our offense. I

(10:39):
think he continues to be a guy that we lean
on in a bunch of variety of jobs, if you will,
but a very trustworthy player in the past game as.

Speaker 6 (10:47):
Well, films far more perhaps four word on.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
We like both players.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
I think think it's when you get into these games, Tony,
you're looking for guys in different roles. Jerome's a guy
we trust, has has played really well for us in
some third down situations. Dylan's a young player that has
made plays for us with the ball in his hands.
I think we can be better around Dylan Sampson at times.
I don't know that we did a great job on

(11:20):
a couple of his runs I'm thinking of, particularly in
the last game. But we like all these guys, Tony.
I think it's just a matter of what roles each
guy is playing. On a given Sunday.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
The Big League, I think.

Speaker 7 (11:36):
James Tuggan.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
Yeah, it's it's emphasized every week. We talk about penalties
after every single practice, you know, spent a lot of
time talking about the avoidable penalties, the ones pre snap,
whether it's alignment on offense or defense or special teams
that they are totally preventable. And then using great technique
in a give and play can eliminate a lot of that.
But those are things that we work, work on and

(12:01):
talk through every single day.

Speaker 7 (12:03):
I have a kind of mark we did a good job.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Yeah, he's a huge piece of the puzzle for them. Uh, he's.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Versatile and the things that he can do. But as
we've seen going against him over over the years, he's
a big, physical football player and having him back does
change some of the things that they're doing.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
Fast.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
You know, again kind of to Tony's point, Sorry Tony
giving you credit, but you you're always looking for different
ways to get guys of the ball and and different roles,
and you know, in some ways, what they're doing and
what a lot of teams do is keeping your your main,
your number one guy fresh with with a different guy
that maybe has a little bit different skill set.

Speaker 7 (12:57):
You him, like bass and theory up there.

Speaker 6 (13:00):
You guys can target that a lot of people.

Speaker 15 (13:01):
And it seems like maybe if you ever seen the
st in the capitalist Yeah, I don't know what the
numbers would suggest, Mary kay, but obviously we're you're trying
to get guys open so they're not contested, but when
they are, you know, the quarterbacks have a ton of
trust in our guys to go up and get those footballs.

Speaker 7 (13:17):
You know.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
I think about.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Said drawing that personal personal drawing the DPI in the
first second drive of the of the game there, which
was a huge penalty to get the drive going. So
you're gonna give your guys opportunities.

Speaker 6 (13:35):
The customer, the user any before that story include m
H four.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
One with Beachpan what are these?

Speaker 2 (13:49):
I would say he's a certainly a valuable part of
our football team, Tony, both as a defensive player, especially
he's player, and an offensive player. I think each game
and each game plan is dependent on what you're getting
from the other side and then ultimately what plays come
up in those given moments. But definitely is a guy

(14:10):
that we trust in those moments.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Okay, thanks you guys.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Quarterback dealing. Gabriel discussed starting against the Ravens this time around.

Speaker 10 (14:16):
When you look back at that game, with the way
that you guys went downfield and field goal drive before
you were.

Speaker 6 (14:26):
Kind of finding some rhythm there, do you feel like.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
You really would have been able to do.

Speaker 6 (14:31):
Something in yet tune minute drive if had you gotten
a chance.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
You'd like to think so, But don't live in that
world ever.

Speaker 14 (14:37):
So it starts saying if you identified things that and
then maybe points to emphasis if you want to work
as specifically as you don't care.

Speaker 6 (14:46):
For this next one?

Speaker 7 (14:47):
Yeah, you know, I don't think growth is ever linear,
and you know there's aggression and there's progression. So there's
things that get better and things that you've got to
continue to work on. But I wanna continue to get better,
and that's what you strive for every single day.

Speaker 16 (15:04):
What do you learn more from watching a film of
the Browns Ravens earlier this year or watching the last
their last couple of games with no.

Speaker 7 (15:15):
Way that playing. That probably a trick question both. Honestly,
you know you're gonna take a look at that, but
you're also gonna look at, uh what they're doing as
of recently. You don't know what the.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
Completion percentages, but how would you acce assess how your
accur accuracy is being Julius five starts?

Speaker 7 (15:33):
You know, it's it's always something you're continue to work
on and and wanna get good at. And I think
it's striving for every inch you know, and being able
to catch runners and allow them to get more, you know,
receiving yards after the catch, so being accurate in that
way and then giving guys a chance. So it's uh
something that you you wanna pride yourself on and get
continue to get better at.

Speaker 6 (15:52):
Would there a thrower to against the Jets?

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Did your point to guard guy really wanted.

Speaker 7 (15:56):
Those two back in the warder? Th it'll it'll always
be like that.

Speaker 6 (16:00):
You r you ran with the ball a little bit more?

Speaker 8 (16:02):
Oh what was that?

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Uh?

Speaker 17 (16:03):
It's just necessity or do you find that now in
a large part of your game going forward?

Speaker 7 (16:09):
I think it's always a part of your game. But uh,
I think it's still finding solutions and ways to win.
Obviously we didn't do that, but you know, whatever is necessary.
It could be a outside receiver day, could be a
tight end day, it could be a r a running day, Okay,
and I think the more versatile you are and finding
ways to win, the better your teams.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
Do you know what you say?

Speaker 9 (16:27):
It was a point of emphasis to a mean they
get you like a pocket and world about more inst
the jets and if regardless, how.

Speaker 6 (16:32):
How do you think that will kind of help you?

Speaker 7 (16:34):
I don't think necessarily myself, but I think just as
a whole, UH wanna be versatile, like we said, and
I think any time you can move the launch point
helps a lot of people and uh makes more versatile.
So UH definitely wanna continue to grow that way.

Speaker 6 (16:48):
Clarify, my question was about you actually running with the ball, not.

Speaker 7 (16:52):
Yeah team did.

Speaker 6 (16:53):
Is that where you took that question? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (16:55):
I was saying more so like being able to be
versatile and find different ways to win, meaning if there's
a way we gotta move the pocket and maybe that's
more advantageous in this week versus another being able to
do it whenever you want.

Speaker 6 (17:09):
It didn't look like any of those were designed from
this side.

Speaker 7 (17:14):
You're saying moving like getting out of the pocket and
just run scrambling.

Speaker 6 (17:17):
Yeah, yeah, if they were mostly just keep her or
something necessity for.

Speaker 7 (17:21):
I would just say, if you're talking about scrambles, moving
when necessary and knowing when to and then trying to
pick up as much as you can do.

Speaker 13 (17:30):
When you're going back and like you see those throats
or you wanna make right or is is it uh
a mechanic thing?

Speaker 4 (17:37):
Like what's happening on some of those throws when when
you uh you know, assess the missions?

Speaker 6 (17:42):
Is it because of not not mechanics are on off?

Speaker 7 (17:44):
Or not overthinking it? But you just miss? You know,
sometimes you miss and you wanna eliminate as many as
you can. And definitely when you know you lose, it's
magnified and I I think you're always gonna continue to
work on that and uh something you wanna procut? What
do you s which is making the throws? What do
you assue when you see that ravenstatas? Uh, they're talented

(18:06):
uh at all levels, play really good as a unit, Uh,
communicate really effectively. Yeah, we have a handsful.

Speaker 6 (18:14):
This is one thing you could say.

Speaker 17 (18:15):
That Tommy Breese brought to the game Sunday. What would
it that's different either in the process or in.

Speaker 6 (18:21):
The end result.

Speaker 7 (18:22):
I think just the communication, the flow, uh confidence within
the plays. And that's just not saying of what it
was last or prior. It's just what he brings.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
Considering that that was.

Speaker 10 (18:35):
Your first game together, you and Tommy can that's the
play color?

Speaker 8 (18:38):
Uh?

Speaker 10 (18:39):
Are you guys, you know, pretty excited about some of
the things that you saw that you can build on
and will do you think it can be exponentially better
in week two, just based on the fact that that
was your first time together and now you kind of
know a lot more.

Speaker 6 (18:52):
About each other.

Speaker 7 (18:53):
Yeah, I want to and have to honestly, And what.

Speaker 10 (18:56):
What are some of the things that you're excited about
that happened in that that you guys felt like you
kind of were on the same page about.

Speaker 7 (19:03):
Yeah, excited about the positives, uh, efficiency and uh always
room for growth.

Speaker 6 (19:08):
There was a point in a game where you were
actually on the telephone. What was that all about?

Speaker 7 (19:14):
I it's just the communication from you know, player to coach.

Speaker 6 (19:20):
Did the r regular system go out or something?

Speaker 7 (19:22):
Or I think it's always been a telephone so I
but I don't wanna if if you may have seen different,
it still is the communication from sideline to yes, yup, Dylan?
I know.

Speaker 13 (19:36):
Uh, you really at Jerry some earlier in this game,
get him involved early, like how m how important was
that to get him and Rthom of the floor.

Speaker 7 (19:43):
It's huge. You know, you you wanna get your best
players the ball. I say that a lot, but then uh,
when you're able to do it, uh, you see what happens.
Uh we wanna do that more consistently and create more
completions when they're there, and uh, yeah, you see what
Jerry can do.

Speaker 6 (19:58):
I know Kevin said it was a good call the Jets.

Speaker 4 (20:00):
But when you look back at that fourth and one
in the fourth quarter, what went wrong on in In hindsight,
would you have done anything different?

Speaker 7 (20:07):
I think in hindsight you'd always wanna think differently, and
I I think just with the pressure that was there
and playing hot to your face, uh, wanting to to
stay there, but uh had a a moment of trying
to go get it and get vertical because it was
fourth and one. But you know, obviously you'd love to

(20:28):
get it to somebody and get the ball in play.

Speaker 10 (20:30):
From a protection standpoint, that was the second time that
you were sacked six times in the game, and obviously
that camp that's unustainable.

Speaker 6 (20:38):
But when you feel like, uh, you can.

Speaker 10 (20:41):
Personally do to make sure you're not getting sick six
times and then as a protection scheme as a unit,
do you feel really confident after watching the film that
you guys.

Speaker 6 (20:51):
Could shore that up for this week?

Speaker 7 (20:53):
Yeah? Confidence never changes, uh, or waivers and wanna eliminate
negat negative plays?

Speaker 6 (21:00):
Do you have the one on the box pick or
anything like that? Y, you'd like.

Speaker 7 (21:03):
To think so, and you just wanna eliminate negative players.
However that may be.

Speaker 8 (21:07):
Dealing off of that is kind of the speed They
always like about to speed the game. How fast this
movie fort We're back, especially a rookie one. Is it
slowing down r at all for you? In terms of
what what you're seeing in front of you, as as
as the player plays developing in terms of the defense and.

Speaker 7 (21:24):
In and everything You're like that, I think slowing down
is a myth just because everyone's pretty quick and an athletic.
I I think it's more so, uh, how decisive you are,
and the the more decisive you can be consistently, That's
where I think, Uh, you're a lot more efficient and
it looks like you're you know, flowing and uh sustaining
drives a little more. So I would just say I'm

(21:45):
continue to grow and be more decisive.

Speaker 12 (21:47):
Oh do you take two?

Speaker 17 (21:48):
More about are your touchdowns against the Jets started from underside?

Speaker 6 (21:52):
You're a couple one or two against Minnesota? Say would
you say you're think they're more comfortable with that one
every game? Let's think it's you came to the Bronx.

Speaker 7 (22:02):
I think it's a combination, right. I think in gun
you're able to do different things. Is under center h
and vice versa. But you know, I think any time
you can utilize under center, play action, run fakes, the
sale is a lot better. That's universal. And I think
anytime you can balance it too, honestly, Uh, it can

(22:23):
help you long term.

Speaker 6 (22:24):
If they're having a big issue.

Speaker 8 (22:26):
You know, these past few games yup for you on
the offense side of the ball as the offensive leader.

Speaker 6 (22:32):
How do you kind of hold guys accountable for those mistakes?

Speaker 7 (22:35):
It's how you practice, You get what you emphasize. And uh,
you definitely wanna eliminate negatives. That's that's something that's you know,
a drive killer, right. But you know, I just feel
like at times we all take our our turns. You know,
whether it's not even a penalty, but n me missing
a throw, uh a penalty here there or maybe a
negative play that that all just makes it more difficult.

(22:58):
And then you know, on the same note, you live
on the other side explosive plays, chunks, you're not living
in third down a bunch, you're sustaining drives. It just
looks a whole lot different. But I think what we see,
what everyone sees, is there's inefficiencies at time and maybe
the nine play touchdown drive verse A three and out,

(23:19):
and how do we kind of find the middle ground
and continue to prolonged drive, sustain them, go put points
on the board they don't.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
Have different Is there a defense with Hamilton kind of
playing a different role and how much you.

Speaker 7 (23:30):
Have to be aware of him. Yeah, I'm glad you noticed.
He's he's a great player, you know, and I think
they use him a bunch in different ways and he's versatile,
which you can all see. But that's that's the challenging part,
and that's also the exciting part, you know, to go out,
go work through that and find answers to that. So

(23:50):
they do a really good job all three levels, like
I said, and they you see him on all three levels.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
Wide receiver Jerry Judy talked about his twenty two yard
touchdown catch from last week against the Jets.

Speaker 12 (24:01):
When that touchdown was.

Speaker 6 (24:02):
A long time coming, you think it could be the
impetus to change your season?

Speaker 7 (24:06):
Was that?

Speaker 9 (24:07):
Uh?

Speaker 12 (24:07):
For sure? You know it has been a long time coming.
You know, hopefully we just keep the momentum going.

Speaker 7 (24:12):
You know.

Speaker 6 (24:13):
Yeah, the ball kind of hung up there, I mean
ended up in your hands. But oh, would you just
block out the corner or really excited it or what
I bad? I said, touchdown? The ballt kind of was
up in the air a long while.

Speaker 5 (24:25):
But yeah, I thought I spot Yeah, I thought it
was a good pat of about didfinitely give me an
opportunity to give me a chance to make a play
on it, you know, and I came down with it.

Speaker 11 (24:35):
So getting those.

Speaker 10 (24:36):
Touches early, you could target it ten times in you
in the first gap.

Speaker 6 (24:39):
Do you feel like that really does help you get
going and get warmed up and we can get into Florida?

Speaker 5 (24:45):
Gay, Yeah, definitely, it definitely helped me get going. You know,
being involved in the game, you know, just the that's
all you need I gut as far as receiver, that momentum,
you know, being involved, being hands dirty, you know, stuff
like that.

Speaker 10 (24:58):
Sure, what do you think.

Speaker 6 (25:01):
That menu on your targets side the last week compared
to the other.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
Games that you want, I think, you know, Tom just
put me in a great position to be able to
you know, make those plays.

Speaker 17 (25:14):
Wow.

Speaker 12 (25:16):
Uh, yeah, I think that that's what it is. I
was just in the right position.

Speaker 6 (25:20):
The is there?

Speaker 17 (25:20):
Ah, your targets was one noticeable difference in the game
that recalls.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
Were there other differences to you in him calling the plays?

Speaker 17 (25:29):
Say that again, your your remember of targets, which one
big difference with Reese taking over play golf.

Speaker 6 (25:37):
Were were there any other differences that you noticed?

Speaker 12 (25:41):
Nah? I think, uh, Tom did a good job of tryna,
you know, try to get me, get me the ball
and get me involved in the game playing, you know.

Speaker 5 (25:47):
And uh, I think the them did a good job
and you know, and going through his reads and making
the right plays and you know, throwing to throwing to
me when I was open to Yeah, your retake.

Speaker 10 (25:57):
All of you guys are really behind Dylan, you know
the fact that Kevin's sticking with them.

Speaker 11 (26:03):
Most of the guys that we talk to seem.

Speaker 10 (26:06):
Like they can see the growth in Dylan, even though
it might not necessarily be showing up in completion percentage
of those things.

Speaker 7 (26:12):
But uh, is is that accurate? Perception?

Speaker 6 (26:15):
Really just seems like you guys are.

Speaker 12 (26:16):
Behind him, and if so, you know why, Uh?

Speaker 7 (26:19):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 5 (26:20):
You know, you know, Dylan's a young quarterback. You know
it's on his first year in ge what just what
his fourth Pitt game, you know in the league. You
know that's a lot that he you know, stood out
of learning. But you know he comes out here each
and every week ready to improve, ready to get better.
So you know that's all you could ask for his quarterback,
you know, and you know, as as teammates, you know,

(26:41):
we gotta lean Yeah, you got you gotta have somebody
lean on, and we hear from him for sure, Cherry,
just with me getting.

Speaker 13 (26:46):
More targets and hitting them earlier, was it reassuring? I
guess because I know, like Kevin and Dylan has even
talking about making sure you're getting the ball, making sure
you're worthvolved. So then Brick's actually on how it is
that just reassuring?

Speaker 3 (26:58):
I guess that the plan?

Speaker 12 (27:00):
Yeah? For sure?

Speaker 7 (27:00):
For sure?

Speaker 6 (27:02):
Yeah, Jerry, what did you see on that fourth and
one where you line up in the backfields?

Speaker 4 (27:06):
Why did to play?

Speaker 3 (27:07):
Eventually?

Speaker 12 (27:11):
You said, when I line up in the backfield. Yeah, uh,
why didn't work.

Speaker 5 (27:16):
I'm not sure why it didn't work, but uh, I
think they brought pressure, you know, so they didn't really
have that much time.

Speaker 3 (27:23):
Did you expect to get the ball number? Uh?

Speaker 12 (27:26):
Yeah, I I I expected to get the ball up.

Speaker 7 (27:29):
Yeah everything?

Speaker 10 (27:31):
Would that be said only his first game, you know,
with Dylan and his first game back from the four
weeks off at the ham string, Do you feel like
that's one area where you guys can really pick it
up a notch and improve by you know, getting the.

Speaker 12 (27:44):
Ball to both of you guys? Oh, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 5 (27:46):
You know, the the more players we could get involved
in the offensive, you know, it's gonna be harder for
the defense to really focus focused on one guy, you know.

Speaker 12 (27:53):
So you know that's the very point.

Speaker 13 (27:54):
Did you ere you're feior from the Rieven's defense right now,
especially they're they've changed how they used to tile Mamilton's
a little bit.

Speaker 6 (28:01):
How does that being to change things?

Speaker 5 (28:02):
Yeah, you know, just just move 'em from safety more
into the box. You know, that's probably the biggest difference.
You know, add the number twelve back there, But other
than that, you know, uh, not really too much change.

Speaker 6 (28:14):
Uh your touchdowns you was explosive.

Speaker 11 (28:16):
There was one early in the game where they were
doing trying to throw it up to said you didn't
catch it, but did you re pederally? You just seem
like Tommy sort of emphasized trying to take some more
of those shots. Just how beneficial cand that mean you
had as an offense to to take.

Speaker 14 (28:29):
Some of those and they get some of those close.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
You know, you wanna be able to be an explosive
offense and take advantage of those shots when we have
have those opportunities. You know, you don't wanna be a
team that just run a lot of short stuff, you know,
so teams.

Speaker 12 (28:40):
Won't won't just sit on every route, you know.

Speaker 5 (28:43):
So yeah, being able to take advantage those opportunity opportunities
really really meant helps the offense a lot.

Speaker 10 (28:48):
Do you feel like since that was term of his
first game, uh calling the game for you guys, that
week two should be you know, exponentially better. Uh, just
because now you kind of as one under his belt,
he knows a little bit more about how Dylan's gonna
respond in certain situations.

Speaker 5 (29:05):
In many guys, for sure, you know, not that he
definitely got a feel only his first game this season,
you know, you know, I I'm pretty sure he gonna
do a great job next week and call him and play.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Also, yeah, I think you mentioned on Sunday the on
that touchdown, Tommy had seen something like maybe how they
recovering crossers or.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Something and set that up.

Speaker 7 (29:22):
Yeah, at what point did you know that play was
gonna work?

Speaker 5 (29:25):
You know, if you if you look at the beginning
of the game, I caught a crosser earlier in the
game and the DV was trailing, So, you know, I
talking to did a great job of recognizing that during
the game, seeing that he was trying to under c
under undercut me and played a crosser.

Speaker 7 (29:40):
So he called it at a great time.

Speaker 9 (29:43):
When we see.

Speaker 10 (29:44):
Passes that look like they're just off the mark, is
that I'm a specifical type of Dylan.

Speaker 13 (29:51):
Last week when.

Speaker 10 (29:52):
We see some of those, is it necessarily the quarterback
or can it be just communication between the.

Speaker 11 (29:59):
Quarterback in the passing metric?

Speaker 12 (30:01):
Yeah, it could be both.

Speaker 5 (30:03):
You know, sometimes the quarterback expect expect you to be
in one spot and another.

Speaker 12 (30:08):
You know, sometimes it just it just happened like that.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
Finally, quarterback Denzel Ward about what has to be different
in the second matchup with the Baltimore Ravens this season.

Speaker 14 (30:16):
But expect differently in this Ravens game the second time
you meet.

Speaker 9 (30:22):
Oh hopefully the result, you know, hopefully you get a
different result and we we get this win. Uh, So
that's what I'm hoping for it, you know, that's what
We'll go out and go out and uh play our
hardest to.

Speaker 7 (30:33):
Uh try to execute and get a win. And that's
the that's the goal, that's the plan.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
What what is this week need to look like for
you guys to make results?

Speaker 9 (30:42):
Yeah, I mean we just gotta gotta execute and practice,
make sure we're all on the same page and you know,
just attention to details and everything and then just come
out ready to play come game day and uh, you know,
exit everybody do their job. Do their job, that's the
biggest thing, and do it at a high level. So
that that's why I think we gotta focus on.

Speaker 13 (31:02):
Mars only looking back a couple of games from that hamstring.

Speaker 7 (31:05):
But how has he what does he.

Speaker 6 (31:06):
Look like to Lamar?

Speaker 9 (31:08):
Yeah, No, he's definitely, uh the same player he's been
coming coming back, you know, great player, great quarterback, top
top five quarterback in this league, and uh yeah, he's
always a a threat out there.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
The game against it just feel weird from your standpoint,
Is there weren't that many passes thrown, right, You weren't
on the field for a ton of plays, And did
it feel different than your normal game?

Speaker 7 (31:28):
Like for me personally?

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (31:29):
Uh yeah that I didn't get no targets, so uh,
you know, it was kind of boring for me. You know,
I wasn't b I wouldn't say it was born, but
it w I I didn't like that. Ain't get no
targets though, But yeah, just trying to find a way
to to to get some action, you know, and and
get into the plays as as best as I can.
Uh seem like they're kind of going to going away
from me a little bit, but.

Speaker 7 (31:50):
Yeah, that's it.

Speaker 16 (31:51):
Yeah, both more so offense seems to be bouncing back
from that slow start.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Is it as simple as saying that La Mar's back
and so uh yeah's that that that's.

Speaker 6 (32:01):
Why they're on track?

Speaker 9 (32:02):
Uh? I believe so you know that quarterback position, Yeah,
they they they got that going and fire and they
gonna be good. He's a he's a heck of a player,
MVP quarterback and sticking him in there on any on
any team is gonna improve your your team and your game.
And I mean you obviously seeing that in and winning
and uh just how he's able to manage the offense
and uh and run the offense for those guys. So, uh,

(32:23):
he's a great player. And yeah, he does he does
everything for those guys.

Speaker 13 (32:27):
And so how disappointing was it on that last drivee
the the couple of penalties if you guys had called
against you and there's a defense, like, what are the
discussions around those?

Speaker 9 (32:37):
Yeah, it's I it's it's definitely tough because I mean
we we put so much emphasis on that and and
every week, you know, we talk about that in meetings
every day about uh not trying to commit penalties at all.
You know, it's gonna it's gonna happen, and stuff like that,
but definitely don't want penalties and stuff like that that
happened at crucial moments in the game. But I mean
our game, every moment is is crucial really, so uh,
we just gotta go and fix it, you know it.

(32:57):
It's and it's not just uh, one player who plays
you know it's it's an entire game that uh things
happening and affect it.

Speaker 7 (33:04):
But yeah, we just gotta be cleaner.

Speaker 9 (33:06):
Uh in the games and especially towards the inn of
games once so those uh moments get even more crucial.

Speaker 7 (33:10):
Thing.

Speaker 10 (33:11):
So if you guys really feel like you have play
is still played for this season, that you can kind
of still get back in the conversation whatever.

Speaker 9 (33:21):
Oh we we still got games on on the table,
So it's definitely more to play for, and uh, you know,
a lot to go out there and and play for,
play for respect, play for uh.

Speaker 7 (33:30):
You know, get some wins.

Speaker 9 (33:31):
You know you don't have that winning findy yet, so
you gotta go get it back and uh try to
find a way to get it.

Speaker 7 (33:35):
So still allowed to play for out there.

Speaker 6 (33:37):
If my els talked after uh.

Speaker 10 (33:39):
The game about how uh he's gonna make sure that
everybody's lands up for this game and you know who's going.

Speaker 6 (33:45):
Forward with it, you do still have a lot to
play for.

Speaker 10 (33:47):
We did you take a pun yourself to do sort
of the same thing as one of ten years.

Speaker 9 (33:51):
Yeah, for sure, And I think the coach has been
doing a great job too. It just uh sounds like
it's still allowed to play for. You know, they they've
been speaking on that already in uh meetings and everything.
But yeah, I'm definitely gonna my part and uh and
echo that around the building and you know out there
of practice and everything.

Speaker 7 (34:05):
Still allowed to.

Speaker 9 (34:05):
Play for, you know, and yeah, I just got go
out there compete and we were still looking to go
get that win.

Speaker 6 (34:11):
Does it? Does it?

Speaker 17 (34:12):
Does it ever occur to you as a defensive later
that every time you play the Ravens lately and.

Speaker 6 (34:17):
You have a different quarterback playing against m playing then
it's like the sixth game of row right around from
a different quarterback players. Yeah, does does it occur to
you guys a conversation?

Speaker 13 (34:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (34:29):
Nah, I Nah, it don't really occur a lot. Like
I always say, like whoever out there, you know, that's
who we go go out there and compete with and
uh fight way to the end of the game.

Speaker 7 (34:37):
But yeah, that that don't occur too much.

Speaker 9 (34:39):
We we going in there, what whoever we got on
the on the mission, that's what we going taking in
there and go battle with.

Speaker 13 (34:44):
When when you say teams are avoiding you, is it
happening more this year than it has in the passed.

Speaker 7 (34:49):
I think so, I think so, I don't fo.

Speaker 9 (34:50):
I've been getting as much targets and and action as
as I got in a year's past. You know, it's
it's it's that's definitely much respect. But uh yeah, I
I'm I'm trying to get into a'm action. I like
to be in on the game, and uh I'm still
in on the game, but just uh get in and
be able to try to affect the game as best
way as I can and make some plays, make some
game change and play. So looking for those every opportunity

(35:12):
I get. But yeah, it's definitely just much respect.

Speaker 15 (35:15):
Though.

Speaker 6 (35:15):
Is there anything you could do?

Speaker 7 (35:16):
I mean, say you want to be on a game
or anything you can do to change it?

Speaker 9 (35:20):
Like, yeah, I'm not I'm not sure, you know. I
I'm just going out there and executing the game plan
and uh, you know, taking the game as it come
and just playing my game.

Speaker 7 (35:29):
So yeah, I'm not sure.

Speaker 8 (35:31):
Until when you play against Lamar, do you have to
Like the first game, Greg gave up, but there was
a completion to Greg on.

Speaker 6 (35:37):
The deep pass.

Speaker 8 (35:38):
I think it was to to Hopkins. Huh where Greg's
got perfect coverage. It's just Lamar ex sends the plays. Yeah,
do you is that almost cost a business when you
go against Lamar? That's sometimes they're just that he's just
gonna get those type of those type.

Speaker 6 (35:53):
Of uh, those type of passes.

Speaker 9 (35:55):
Yeah, at times, I mean he he he's a he's
a playmaker out there. He's able to extend plays, like
you said, so it's already tough covering guys uh in
this league. So but when he's able to extend to
play longer than the average play, you just got to
cover for that much longer. And so it's kind of
wait for guys to get open type of thing. But yeah,
we still just got to finish and find a way
to get the balls down or intercept it and make

(36:18):
plays in that aspect. But yeah, it's definitely tougher when
you got someone like that. I could throw the ball
and run the ball intend place we saw with just.

Speaker 6 (36:27):
Rainmason Carson got that weight hit penalty. I know, you
get spiked on one slide.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Kind of balance protecting yourself avoiding penalties and also making
sure a guy.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
Goes down and stays down with the guy like Lamar.

Speaker 7 (36:38):
Yeah, sometimes skirts the sideline doesn't think you will.

Speaker 9 (36:42):
Yeah, it's so you just gotta continue to play a game.
But yeah, right, I was trying to, you know, protect
the quarter their quarterback fields and everything. He was sliding,
he caught my knee. You know, I probably should have
win it. Hit Him'm gonna hit him next time. But nah, Yeah,
you just gotta just keep.

Speaker 7 (36:56):
Playing the game.

Speaker 9 (36:57):
I mean, stuff is gonna happen, but you can't. You
can't just look too much into it or are slow
your game down trying to do too much.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
