Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome to this week fifteen Friday edition of the From
the Podium podcast. I'm Gabe Kolura. The Browns got their
final day of practice of the week in today, meill
hop on a plane tomorrow tohead to Chicago to take
on the Bears at Soldier Field this coming Sunday. On
this episode, you'll hear from head coach Kevin Stefanski, quarterbacks
coach Bill Musgrave, defensive line coach Jacques's Air, running back

(00:27):
Quinn Shawn Judkins, and defensive end Miles Garrett. We'll start
with head coach Kevin Stefanski, who gave an injury update
ahead of week fifteen's game against the Bears.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
All right, good work out there with the guys, finishing
touches tomorrow, and then get on the airplane, and you know,
a really good opponent, NFC opponent, a really good combination
of scheme players, so really great challenge in front of us.
So we got to be about our business when you
get to that airplane. But with that, I'll take any questions.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
There didnzo come close to potentially playing or was it
just too too risky.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Film Yeah, I think, as you know, with every injury,
I have to treat the injury and unfortunately was able
to make it this week. We have different guys that
will work through there relatively new Yeah here.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
I know he played for Denzel Vulas. What have you
seen from amag?

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yes, fit In really well, has played meaningful snaps for
us on defense and on special teams. Really brings a
size element, a speed, element of physicality, so like what
Sam brings.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
It was like the most guys that you've had out
for a game. So you know, how do you feel
about having to head into a challenging game like this
with a little bit of Skelton Provenson areas?

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, that's part of the game, Mary Kay and a
lot of what we do as coaches has worked through contingency,
contingency plans and see who's available, and there's always uncertainty
going into football games of who may or may not play,
So we just worked through those things. That's a kind
of you deal with whatever's in front of you.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
You haven't been here before. And he be up to
be fast enough to have.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
A role on Sunday, I think so, yeah for sure. Yeah,
very intelligent player, veteran, so he can do whatever's asked
of them.

Speaker 6 (02:16):
Who is the Taylor is obviously starting a WHI if
for some reason Joel and Zach can't go again, who
would be the Who's the option?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
We have different options that we've worked through all week,
and we'll see what it looks like in the next
forty eight.

Speaker 7 (02:35):
Everything you can and play. So if you've been able
to be out, how important to have that continuity when.

Speaker 8 (02:40):
You're you know, missing?

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Sure, yeah, obviously continuity along the offensive line is ideal,
not not always realistic, But if you can have your
veterans out there when you're dealing with some of the injuries,
that that would be beneficial. But like we said before,
it's you got to get everybody ready to play good,
questionable guys.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
And do you feel pretty good about maybe Nason being
able to get out?

Speaker 9 (03:04):
I think it's it's hard to say, Mary Kay.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I think with all of these injuries, I think you
have to treat the injury, treat the players, see how
they respond today, see how they respond tomorrow before you
can really make a decision.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
But the weather element of this game, obviously you know
what it's gonna be.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
How would you kind of prep your guys for I.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Mean, obviously, yeah, listen, Weather's part of the game. It's
it's the same for both teams. Like I've told you
guys before, we deal with elements. We don't control them.
So sometimes it's win, sometimes it's rained, sometimes it's really
hot day, sometimes it's really cold day. You have to
focus on doing your job regardless of what the elements are.

Speaker 8 (03:44):
How was this week different than last week for Deshaun.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Just a continued progression for him physically mentally. I think
you did a nice job with what he what we
asked me to do. Growth of those group, Yeah, I'd
give to Shawn a lot of credit. I'd give Bailey's
Appy a lot of credit for I think there's there's
always value when you get reinforced coaching points from your

(04:13):
peers and from your teammates. And I think, you know,
Tommy must do a great job in that room. But
it doesn't hurt to have guys that have started games
in this league to answer questions and to provide experiences
to our young players.

Speaker 6 (04:30):
Key obviously start right tackle Montez sweat for the Bears.
He seems the primarily white of one.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
How much of a challenge you know, is that going
to be for kat to that?

Speaker 9 (04:43):
Yeah, he's a great player.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
We've played against him when he was in Washington, we
played against him when they traded for him in Chicago.
I have a ton of respect for how he plays
the game. He's big, physical, disruptive in the run, disruptive
in the past. So it's it's our job as a
as an offense to try to limit him. That could
be about one person.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
You were in Minnesota.

Speaker 10 (05:03):
Did Bike Grant ever offer you any tips on dealing
with the cold?

Speaker 9 (05:08):
I mean I could tell some, but Grant stories.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
You know that playoff game We're playing the Seattle Seahawks
and the playoffs at outside at the University of Minnesota,
and coach Grant was one of the captains of the game,
negative six at kickoff and he came out wearing a
pole a Vikings polo, which is is unbelievable, but just
sending that message to the team that similar to what
I just said, you just deal with the elements, and

(05:33):
he had a way and just being there all those years,
you heard the stories about not.

Speaker 9 (05:38):
Having heaters on the sideline and.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Channeling the Eskimos in terms of how to deal with
the winter and the weather and the frigid temperatures.

Speaker 9 (05:47):
So coach Grant had it figured.

Speaker 11 (05:49):
Out at the time.

Speaker 9 (05:51):
Pretty impressive. Yeah, he was a great human being.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
You know, you don't have to hear me tell you
how good this coach Grant was at his job and
as a person. But I also remember, you know, he'd
be he was in the office almost every day. So
you'd see Coach Granny had his office and he'd come
in a lot of times during the winter and there'd
be a deer carcass on the top of his car
and he'd go park the car for the day and

(06:17):
the deer would just be there. And then later in
the day you'd see the car go around to the
back to the dumpsters and he'd throw the deer carcass
into the dumpster. So, uh, I'm an avid indoorsman, so
I didn't understand exactly what he was doing, but pretty
special to be around him, Like I was.

Speaker 6 (06:32):
Their defense that has the lostware receptions to the league
right now.

Speaker 8 (06:36):
But what is your conversations with schedor they might go into.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
You know, knowing that so trying.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
To Yeah, I mean as a team, they lead the
league in turn over margin, they lead the league in interceptions,
buyerds as good as anybody at playing the quarterback size.
They have great ball skills at a lot of their positions.
Their guys are really good at that. So as a quarterback,
you have to understand all those things and then you
have to play your position. You got to trust your eyes,

(07:02):
you have to trust what you see, and you have
to make accurate throws. We have to do a great
job with those throws when when we're receivers and tight
ends and running backs of securing the catch in those
type of situations. But they do a really good job.
So it just means that we have to be on
top of what we see and then great in the
past game. But you have to also go to this

(07:22):
game understanding that you're gonna have to do your job
really regardless of what's going on on the other side.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
So I know you expect guys to.

Speaker 7 (07:30):
Hustle all the time, But when Blake Whitehart chases down
the plumper during the one week and then at two
point try the next week, is that something you've noticed.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
And you point out without it that I mean, Blake
has played a lot of important reps.

Speaker 9 (07:44):
For us this season.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Over the years, He's a guy that works really hard
at his craft, He's one of the first guys in
the building every single day, and effort is something that
you always point out. And there's effort to be shown
on plays like that where you know things aren't going
your way, but you're gonna do anything you can to
get him on the ground. I mean Tevin Jenkins at
the end of the two point play to to the hustle.

Speaker 9 (08:06):
So, uh, yeah, I think that says a lot about
those guys.

Speaker 10 (08:10):
Maybe's broaduct over some practice squad.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Would would you be an option for elevation on Sunday?

Speaker 9 (08:14):
Potentially?

Speaker 8 (08:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Those are all things that were winging, but good to
have moBack in the building.

Speaker 5 (08:20):
Do you have to prepare your guys just for the
intensity of a game, uh where the team that you're
playing is December Football and they're in the you know,
the thick of the Hunts with the NFC North and
all of it.

Speaker 6 (08:32):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
I think our guys understand certainly the uh what they're
what our game is versus a really good football team.

Speaker 9 (08:41):
We respect uh who they are.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Uh, But at the end of the day, it's it's
gonna be a physical, sixty minute football game like you
would expect. So I think the guys are excited about
the opportunity go back to the in.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Some of the injuries special a guy like Joel. How
does that factor into the equation, you know, when you
know how the col could impact.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Yeah, I don't know that it factors too much into
the injuries themselves.

Speaker 9 (09:09):
If the guys are able to go, they'll go.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Obviously, when you're talking about muscle injuries, you need to
make sure you're keeping those guys warm throughout the game.
So that's something that I think both teams will be
hyper aware of. But we'll see how those guys respond
before make a decision.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
She doorways had several weeks of practice as the starter.
Is there something you can point to, like during the.

Speaker 9 (09:28):
Practice week just operationally that he's doing better, or maybe
it's going smooth just because you're now in routine. Yeah,
I think it's all the above.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
I think the more turns you get something, the more
comfortable you get. You're working with a new center this week,
so that's a different challenge in a good way, where
you have to get on the same page with whip
and have some dialogue and conversations about certain things that
you're doing in a game. So I think all of
it for a young player is important. I think it
all adds up those.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
Guys having the eighteen interceptions in the twenty seven and
take these altogether.

Speaker 4 (10:01):
How do you make.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
Sure that with Shadoor that he can maintain his ability
to go downfield with the ball, but also just.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Being careful with the ball.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
I think that's our job to design a game plan
and then our players to go execute it. Listen, this
is a very very good defense, like you mentioned, leading
the league in takeaways. We understand all of that, and
we respect that, and you watch the film and you
prepare for that. But at the end of the day,
we're focused on being efficient and explosive on our end,
and when there's opportunities, will take them. And if those

(10:31):
opportunities aren't there, we'll move on and wait for the
next one.

Speaker 9 (10:34):
Okay, thanks you guys, up next.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Quarterbacks coach Bill Muskrave discussed the growth that Shador Sanders
has shown through his first three career NFL starts.

Speaker 12 (10:41):
All right, Friday preparation today and get out there and
get ready.

Speaker 11 (10:47):
To go see the monsters of the Midway.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
Think's game against the Titans and what he showed you
guys in terms of his growth in open last week.

Speaker 12 (11:01):
Well, there were some steps that we took forward in
the quarterback department and that was terrific. Going back to
the second half of the Baltimore game, and then in
Las Vegas, then versus the Niners, and then of course
versus Tennessee. We're getting some good experience and that's really
the best teacher experiences. And he's doing a nice job
of applying the lessons learned both when we have our

(11:24):
triumphs and our good plays, but also when we stub
our toe.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
One of the things he was doing, especially the Rams preseason,
drifting back. I mean, it seemed like he had a
habit of drifting back when when he was in the pocket.
It seems like he's done a lot better job as
he's gotten more comfortable in staying within the pocket, playing
within the pocket more and more. Is that just a

(11:50):
byproduct of being out there and seeing getting game reps
something you can't really really hab you can't break it with,
you know.

Speaker 8 (11:59):
Just in act.

Speaker 12 (12:01):
I think it's definitely with the experience and the reps
and finding out how fast these guys are at this level.
John Elway used to say the same thing when he
came out of college you felt like he could run
away from people, because he did in high school and college.
But these defenders at this level, you know, they hawk
you down or they trap you.

Speaker 11 (12:20):
They're smart. They don't let you out.

Speaker 12 (12:21):
Like you used to be able to get out of
the pocket at different levels of football.

Speaker 11 (12:25):
So I think it's a trial and air thing.

Speaker 12 (12:27):
I think most quarterbacks, if not all quarterbacks, go through
that finding out how quickly these suckers break on the ball,
how strong they are when they do get you and
you feel like you have the ball secured, but somehow
they probably loose and wishbone you.

Speaker 8 (12:41):
So it's.

Speaker 12 (12:43):
That's probably common for each and every fellow who's played
this position at this level.

Speaker 8 (12:51):
Since you know day one on you ar better.

Speaker 7 (12:55):
How can you kind of quantify the development he's made
in all as a game since he stepped foot two?

Speaker 8 (13:02):
Now, what he should start up with?

Speaker 12 (13:04):
Well, like all of us, I think back to my
rookie year thirty four years ago. Came out of a
system at Oregon where we never even called the pass protection.
The offense that Shador ran, the two offenses he ran
in Colorado, plus the offense at Jackson State, plus the
offense you know in high school at Trinity. I mean,

(13:25):
you just don't know what you're going to get faced with.
My rookie coach was Norville Turner there in Dallas, you know,
and he used to get after me because I wouldn't
call the play correctly in the huddle. So all of
us rookies have mountains to climb in terms of how
well were we prepared for this level. Whether we're in
the huddle, we're in the shotgun, we're under center, we're

(13:45):
no huddling, we're sending motions. Every language is different, so
he's he's had a lot to adapt to. Like Dylan
has also, like little Bobby Musgrove did thirty one thirty
four years ago, you know.

Speaker 13 (14:01):
Been for in terms of his footwork, and he came
into this team wanting to approach that specifically. What has
been the key is you've worked with him to try to.

Speaker 8 (14:10):
Improve that on the field.

Speaker 12 (14:11):
Well, he works hard at it. I mean, any gains
of course that these guys are making, it's because they
are determined to get it right. They're determined to figure
this whole pro game out. Talking about the rookie quarterbacks,
and Shador has worked really hard on his footwork and
his rhythm and his feet really telling him how to
get through progressions. You know, the first route might be

(14:32):
thrown on the plant before we even take a hitch
step or a gather step in the pocket, and then
moving to number two to number three, a little bit
like the sixty yard touchdown to Jerry the other day,
his feet holding that initially the front side of the
pattern wasn't working, it wasn't looking very appetizing, and sure enough,
when he got to his second or third hitch step
or gather step, he inherently got back to that backside

(14:55):
indcut and that was outstanding.

Speaker 5 (15:00):
In terms of his elusiveness and being able to slip
the sacks and step up in the pocket by himself
the time. Is that about what you thought it would be,
or in some ways is that even exceeding your expectations
so far?

Speaker 12 (15:16):
I think it's about what we thought or anticipated. Most
fellas in this day and age are going to have
to extend the play and escape just because the defenses.

Speaker 11 (15:27):
Are are so good. I don't think.

Speaker 12 (15:30):
We're we're not seeing anymore Troy Aikman's or Dan Marino's
that are just statues in the pocket and they just
deal from the pocket and crush a defense. The defenses
now are so advanced and so good that we're not
seeing any six', five six' six just statues, back there
Even Though philip rivers.

Speaker 8 (15:51):
Is back.

Speaker 12 (15:53):
But the guy we're playing this Week, in chicago same same.
Skill set he, can throw but also he can extend
plays and he can get out there and create when
the defenses take away what?

Speaker 11 (16:06):
Is intended.

Speaker 14 (16:09):
How much should or like solve different offenses? And things
and then the adjustment TO. The nfl how how challenging
is it to break some of those habits for like a,
working quarterback things that maybe you guys want him to
sort of get better at AT the? Nfl level how
long can?

Speaker 8 (16:24):
That?

Speaker 14 (16:24):
Take it is it sort of based on? Each person
but you know how what was? That process kind OF like, i, Guess.

Speaker 12 (16:29):
Yeah i'm sure it's based on, the individual but it takes.
Hard work it just doesn't happen and it takes, hard
work like we, all know to to re establish habits
and make them part of your fabrics so you don't
have to think. About it last thing we want somebody
doing is out there thinking on the field about my
footwork or THE way i throw it's. Not golf there's

(16:52):
no there's no time for swing thoughts up on the. Tea,
Box like we've got to do what comes naturally, to
us and that's establishing those habits as you.

Speaker 15 (17:00):
Alluded, to really you've been working pretty Closely with tommy
here for a. Little while what have you kind of
Learned About tommy breeze is, a coordinator a, play caller just.

Speaker 9 (17:09):
All Of those.

Speaker 12 (17:11):
I've learned, you know A lot. I've Learned, mike malarkey
a GUY that i worked with Down. In atlanta he
used to talk about being a lifelong learner and as us,
as coaches we should, learn something and we do every
time we walk off a practice field or a. Game
field every day at, this job would come In And
mike malarkey had a file and he'd type it in
or write it in about things that he learned each

(17:32):
and every day that we didn't know the minute we
went out. To PRACTICE and i Learned from tommy each and.
Every day he works really hard at. His craft the,
other day he was a step ahead of the defense
There in tennessee with the plays. He called he was
a step ahead on that long pass down There In,
las vegas when we flushed out of the pocket versus.
Cover zero he's he's been a step ahead of these.

(17:52):
OPPOSING coordinators.

Speaker 11 (17:55):
I like being. AROUND him i like guys.

Speaker 12 (17:59):
Who are, tightly wow, you Know and tommy is because
he cares guys who actually care about football and care about.

Speaker 11 (18:08):
The profession.

Speaker 14 (18:11):
We Know that shoulders now slated to finish out the
season As the. Star wars kevin announced, this week what do,
you think like in a seven game, sample size if
he gets through the season healthy and, all that what
do you think you can tell or learn or gather
about him and sort of moving forward into the future
about him as a quarterback for.

Speaker 12 (18:31):
This, TEAM yeah i don't Know that i'm in a
good spot to answer. That today that's probably gonna be
for the off season where we can take a deep
breath and reflect a. Little bit, right now we're pretty
much into our as you, can imagine our weekly battle
mode of getting ready For our friday practice and red
area and making sure we're sharp on the goal line
and two point plays and all that so we can

(18:52):
go put our.

Speaker 11 (18:52):
Best foot Forward.

Speaker 12 (18:53):
Versus chicago then after that seven, game stretch as, you
described there'll be time in the off season and really
break it down and get to the crux of.

Speaker 7 (19:03):
The matters how Much he's deshaun ben able to do
in these couple, of weeks and how.

Speaker 12 (19:08):
She, Looked yeah deshaun's doing more out there on the,
practice field more than he did. Last week and we're
gonna have some good drills with him today and get him.
Some plays AND so i think each and every day
he's he's, doing more and it's just great to have him.
Out There like i've, talked about it's been great to
have him on the sideline for our. Young qbs it
was great to have him There. For joe He and

(19:29):
joe ever had a really. Good rapport of course, they were,
you know battling against, each other warriors that saw each
other of course IN, the afc, you know for. Those
years so just been a pleasure To have deshaun here.
THIS year i don't know where we'd be.

Speaker 11 (19:45):
Without Him.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
Like scout team or like end Of, fam, yes.

Speaker 11 (19:50):
Yes Yes some scout team and.

Speaker 12 (19:51):
SOME simulation a lot of times when there's a drill,
going on we go try to steal some plays in
the BACK and i try to, play center and we
recruit some guys to. Play wide receiver just to, give
guys it's almost like having a meeting on, our feet,
you know it's more active meeting than sitting in the
classroom looking at the.

Speaker 16 (20:07):
Overhead projector in terms of you Talked about chador's adjustment TO,
the nfl what do you've seen in in terms of
his ability to pick all this stuff up as quickly
as he needed to and then also to correct.

Speaker 11 (20:24):
His, mistakes well it's a.

Speaker 12 (20:28):
Difficult task he's really working hard at it with his
study habits and making sure that you can visualize where
all the players are in the. Various patterns so he's
working really hard. At it and there's different study, guide
aids whether it be flashcards or on your laptop or
watching the film or having more active meetings walk. Through
meetings we used to do THAT when i was coaching

(20:50):
at cal and Also at Oakland. AND denver a lot
of our meetings were more active meetings where we're out
on the turf and it's, a meeting but we're moving
and we're walking. Through it and it helps with at
least it, helps me it helps a lot, OF people
i would imagine.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
With visualization defensive Line coach Jacques sees air talked about
the historic Pace That miles garrett is on, this season and.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
You said before the season you saw More.

Speaker 8 (21:13):
In miles he thought that he had still more Left
in is this what you? Were?

Speaker 17 (21:17):
DING yeah i mean obviously every year that you're going
with a dominant, pass rusher you expect the most. From him,
and uh but, YOU know i said it in, the
beginning when, you KNOW when i you watch him in,
the preseason it was probably the most dominant preseason he's.
EVER had, i mean he didn't lose one one on
one rep and that goes for the joint practices and,

(21:39):
our practices and he was just he had a singular
focus on, just dominating dominating every play and you, saw that,
you know throughout. The Year So i'm i'm happy with
his with what he's done and how. He's developed, you
know as a, football player you think you got all,
the answers but you. Really don't you never, stop growing and,
you know he's a testament. To that like that guy

(21:59):
wore so hard to continue to develop and and be
the most dominant defensive PLAYER that i think we've ever seen.

Speaker 18 (22:08):
The film as fast game As the titans as a
defensive librads and things that, you know you want that
group to correct.

Speaker 7 (22:15):
To keep, say know what's also a really, good line.

Speaker 17 (22:17):
Say yeah, YOU know, i mean, you know, you know
hats off To the titans had a good plan on
one of the two of, those runs and they got out.
On us, you know we got a little loose on,
you know as a defense as. A whole but for the,
most part the guys were playing attack and they were
getting off blocks and they were. Making plays but, you
know it just goes, to show like you in, this

(22:38):
league you can never. Fall asleep and and unfortunately those those,
two players we can't get. Those back so but, the guys,
you know they came in just ready, to go and
then they had their proud, defensive line their, proud defense
and they know we got to correct what happened.

Speaker 9 (22:52):
Last week miles is.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
Out there trying to get this, seck record and now
you've got teams that are going to be determent to
try to stop That from handsey the.

Speaker 6 (23:02):
Way That the.

Speaker 5 (23:02):
Titans did what challenges does that present for?

Speaker 17 (23:05):
You, GUYS yeah i mean every week guys are trying to,
you know every big every team HAS AN nfl i
Mean a, miles, PLAN right, i mean he's the most
dominant pass rusher IN. The nfl so every week he's,
seeing chips he's seeing guys coming from outside in, you know,
double teams sometimes. Triple teams and the biggest thing is
the other guys have to continue to step up and.

(23:28):
Make plays, you know there's gonna be teams that are
gonna try to Neutralize, neutralized miles and he's gonna do
his best to try and get open and get his
like he did this. Past week but, you know other
guys have to step up and make plays. As well
he's the most dominant defensive player rgine, me, personally yes,
YOU know i mean some people, might disagree but, you

(23:51):
know working with him up close now for two years
and just seeing the type of athlete that he is
at the with the size that he has and the
strength and the explosion of ability and the band and
the flexibility and the, movement skills, you know there's no
ONE that i can think of that can do some
of the things that. He does, you know he's routinely
getting chipped from tight, ends backs he's routinely getting the

(24:16):
slide coming, to him a guard coming off and. Helping
out so, you know when you got that much attention
for you every week and you still putting up the
numbers that he's. PUTTING up i mean that's, pretty special.
You know and YOU know i may, be biased, BUT
yeah I mean i think he's the best Defensive player i've.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
Ever seen so you when you, say that just, TO clarify,
I mean lt is widely regarded as the greatest defender of.
All times are you sort of saying that You think
miles HAS exceeded lt and has taken over the mantle
Of this i'm.

Speaker 17 (24:47):
Saying me personally with the Person that i've. WORKED with
i didn't WORK, with lt, You KNOW and i was
a KID when lt was, record, Shop OKAY and i
all the respect in the world for GUYS, Like Lt,
bruce smith, you Know the Minister, Of Defense. Reggie white,
you know there's a, you know You know green FROM The,
La Rams. KEVIN green i got all the type of

(25:10):
respect for, these.

Speaker 19 (25:11):
Guys and AND but i.

Speaker 17 (25:12):
WASN'T around i wasn't watching those guys up close, Every
GAME and i don't know how much chips they were
getting and what teams are doing to try and. Stop them,
YOU know i just know this from the ten YEARS
that i was IN the nfl as. A player the
six years now as, A coach i haven't seen a
more dominant football player than that.

Speaker 19 (25:34):
Come along and obviously.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
Paying, Pushing.

Speaker 17 (25:40):
Yeah mike has done a good, job of, you know
first of all getting back from injury and just working
back into the lineup and doing all he can to
try and continue contribute for. The team he's continually developing.
Every day, you know. He's working we, work together, you,
know individually we watched. Film together he comes out early,
in practice stays a little later for for walk through

(26:01):
and things. Like that so he's doing everything he can
so he can he can continue. To play like how
like how he's been playing again with everybody's Attention on
miles and things happening with, you know We're obviously malik now.
Being out we need all those guys to continue to
step up all.

Speaker 13 (26:19):
The time about your line being the engine of the
defense and how what you guys do up front triples
back into the linebackers and. The secondary but, for you
how do how did, those players how how do, those
safeties the corners of the linebackers play maybe impact you
guys and what they're able to do back there how
does that impact?

Speaker 17 (26:37):
THE line i, MEAN yeah i mean we all we
always Talk about russian covers needs to work together and
and our job. Is simple We were we're out there
to go just rec shop and, you, know, penetrate, disrupt
rush our butts off as much as. We can if
they're they're gonna give, us time we're gonna. Get home and,
you know if things, happened that, you know we're we're

(26:58):
either we're not doing our job or they're not doing,
their job we. Correct it, you know there's no finger
pointing or anything. Like that we're all about working together
and it's a tight. Knit group, you know those guys
we never think about anything about the score or anything.
Like that we just go out there and. Just play and,
You know i've been iven't i haven't enjoyed, the Losses
but i've enjoyed working with this group of men that,

(27:19):
you know, the character the. Work ethic and it all
started in the spring with, you Know With jim schwartz
talking about hungry dogs. Run faster those guys really like
bought into that and they've been working their butts off Since.
Since ota so, you know we still got four more games.
To go we still got a lot of work, to
DO and i think, you know, the GUYS as i,
said before they have a lot of pride and they're

(27:40):
gonna come out here and and and put some.

Speaker 9 (27:42):
Work in talk, about all.

Speaker 5 (27:44):
You know pitching in to make sure That that miles
gets this uh. Sack record it seems like a lot,
of guys, you know the guys have been selfless.

Speaker 16 (27:51):
About That and grant.

Speaker 5 (27:52):
Talks about i'm gonna hold up the quarterback and let
model over get, the sack which of course he tried
to do in the. Pass game but, You know, alex
right it look like he may have been eligible for half, a,
sack yeah in the, past game but if he willingly gave,
That up so is this a? Group effort and then
how do you how do you feel about everybody?

Speaker 8 (28:11):
Pitching? In?

Speaker 17 (28:12):
Yeah everybody, you know we laugh in the room that,
you know anybody that's close to getting, the sack they
better give It.

Speaker 19 (28:19):
To miles, BUT no i mean, the guys.

Speaker 17 (28:22):
The guys really appreciate playing, alongside him and you can,
see it, you know they're all happy for him when
he gets sacks and they're all. WORKING together, i mean
everybody wants to get on right everybody wants to Rush.
With miles everybody wants to get out there on third
down and get. Their opportunities but we, know that, you
know four. Equals One we miles can't do what he's
doing unless everybody else is working to collapse, the pocket

(28:45):
squeeze the pocket and help help flush the quarterback Either
two miles or step Up so miles can, come underneath
or one of those other guys. Get sacked so it's
not something where, everybody's, like hey hold the quarterback Off.
Of miles they're all trying to get. Sacks too it's,
just that, you know We know miles is. Gonna win
we know he's. Gonna win who else is? Gonna win
who else is gonna win their one on? One matchup

(29:06):
or push the pocket enough where somebody gets, a sack
Not just.

Speaker 7 (29:09):
Miles describtions rookie season and how IT develop i know
he thinks he's been playing better late ON what, Dc Has.

Speaker 17 (29:19):
Thank god you know when that kid first, showed up,
AND uh I mean i think we all. Saw him,
you know we saw that picture of him throwing up and,
you know eating too much and throwing up, and stuff
AND and i talk about just how, he responds, you
know he works. SO hard i don't think people realize
just how hard that guy works and how detailed he
is in his rush plan and how smart.

Speaker 8 (29:41):
He is, you know you watch him before.

Speaker 17 (29:42):
The games he's calling out where all the runs are
going every, single play, you know and he has a
good Relationship. With carson he does a great job at
the point. Of attack away from the point, of attack
he can he can, you know skinny through all the
trash to to close and make a play on a.
Running BACK so i mean that, that kid, you know
probably You know i'm, biased again, you know one of
my favorite draft picks ever because he. Just, works yeah

(30:05):
he doesn't care about getting any type of. Recognition whatsoever
he doesn't care about. Getting stats he just wants to
win and he wants everybody else to. Play Well and
i'm happy that we have. That guy, you know he
he's done a heck of. A job he's gonna be
a great pro for a, long TIME and i think
he's just scratching the surface of.

Speaker 10 (30:23):
His potential what's it's been like just Working with jim,
this season and, you know as the winds have, to
come just his attitude and the way he, you know
it seems like it rubs off on the whole defense
to so one of the.

Speaker 17 (30:35):
Top, Units yeah jim has been a great leader and
and and the thing about him is he just keeps the.
Energy up. You know it's, about energy it's about, having
swag it's about continuing believing, each other believing in not
only each other. But yourself, and uh, you know even
you know we've we haven't been perfect, this, year right
But again jim has he always lets us, know, like

(30:56):
hey we're we're this close to getting what. We want,
you know it's it's a it's a, gap here a,
mistackle here or a, misfit here but we're we are
a really good, dominating defense, you know because of his
leadership and all the guys buying into what he wants to.

Speaker 20 (31:09):
Get, done miles and He's been jim actually said a
couple of weeks ago that you'd be hard pressed to
find anybody who's more valuable in this league Than, than
miles kind of alluding to him BEING an. Mvp candidate
we know that that award has become such A Quarterback
trivin award at, This, point right what do you think
it would take for like an edge rusher or a

(31:30):
defensive player to actually bring, that award that. Award home
and do You think miles is maybe making the best
case that we've seen.

Speaker 17 (31:36):
FOR that i definitely think he's making a case. FOR
that i, told, him hey, look man let's let's leave.
No doubt get, thirty sacks.

Speaker 8 (31:41):
All right.

Speaker 11 (31:43):
He's like.

Speaker 19 (31:43):
The records, you know.

Speaker 17 (31:44):
The record is, twenty Three and, i'm like, you know leave,
no doubt just keep. Being dominant, and honestly he's not
really thinking about things. Like that he's thinking about just,
every day, every week he wants to get. A win
and whatever, that takes if it takes him getting, five
sacks if it takes him getting, one sack if it
takes him setting up a player another player setting, him up,
you know he just wants to get. A win i

(32:05):
want to get a, win TOO but i also want
him to get sacks because he. Deserves it he works hard.
For it so, you know it is what it is with.
THAT award, i think, you know if there's a defensive
player that is, breaking records that is routinely getting double and,
triple teamed and is making offensive coordinators loose sleep, at night,
YOU know i think he presents a good case for winning.

Speaker 8 (32:27):
That award, it's here.

Speaker 9 (32:28):
That's not it's not always all about.

Speaker 6 (32:30):
The sacks it's not about.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
The sacks and everyone obviously praises his temples for loss
and all those kinds, Of things but why.

Speaker 6 (32:37):
Is it in, the End, really.

Speaker 17 (32:41):
Well, you know the most important position on an offense, is. Well,
Quarterback okay so if you're getting the quarterback down and
you're hitting the quarterback and you're chasing the quarterback and
you're keeping them off schedule and you're pressuring them every,
every play, you know that messes up. An OFFENSE so,
i think, you know with getting sacked and getting to
the quarterback and making that quarterback look at the rush

(33:03):
and not look at. THE coverage, i mean that's why
those those things, are important.

Speaker 8 (33:07):
YOU know.

Speaker 17 (33:07):
I don't i try not to put a big emphasis. On. Sacks,
more hey let's get pressure on, the quarterback get him
down on. The ground keep, hitting them keep, hitting them
keep hitting. Hitting them. You know but, the sacks, you
know that's just that's what gets your name in, the
paper sacks, and TFLs, You know And and miles is
closing on another record ALL time TfL record IN the
nfl too so and, he know he don't even talk,
about that. YOU know, i mean he's he's improved his

(33:30):
run defense so Much since i've. Been, here uh the
way he's rushing, is AMAZING and i just, you know
it's a special year for him as far. AS statistically
i know he wants he wants to get wins and
play in the playoffs and things, like that but you
can't just overlook just what he's done this whole.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
Entire Year Running Back Quinn shawn jenkins talked about the
opportunities he could Get against chicago's rushing defense.

Speaker 19 (33:52):
This weekend how.

Speaker 8 (33:53):
Would you describe? What?

Speaker 19 (33:54):
Happened UH fortunately.

Speaker 18 (33:58):
I WOULD unfortunately i, was say, you know just, you
know on, that job wanted to to go out and
and finish it and.

Speaker 19 (34:04):
Score it. It didn't it. Didn't happen.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
Are you supposed to get you to?

Speaker 18 (34:10):
LOOK gaging i don't really wanna get into the details of,
the PLAY like, i, said man just really just trying
to do our job as offense and great there.

Speaker 19 (34:18):
And just try to make.

Speaker 8 (34:19):
It happen, After, THAT.

Speaker 19 (34:28):
Yeah i think.

Speaker 18 (34:29):
Definitely frustrated it's been a long season for all.

Speaker 19 (34:33):
Of us and then at, that point you just wanna.

Speaker 18 (34:36):
Try to go out and get, a win and AND like,
i said it.

Speaker 19 (34:38):
Didn't happen so here we. Are now i'm just trying
to prepare for our Game.

Speaker 8 (34:42):
Versus chicago is that a point that you, Personally sorry
is that a point that you personally Raped?

Speaker 19 (34:48):
The, Yeah uh i've gotten a lot of reps.

Speaker 18 (34:51):
At that coaches, trust me trust everybody in that position
at that point in, The game, SO yeah i.

Speaker 10 (34:58):
Need it gons when you know the weather's going to
be as bad as it's, Gonna, be yeah then you're
probab gonna have to lean on the running? Game more
is that to get you more excited for the game
every now that you wouldn't, be anyway but because you,
can zoom they have to line.

Speaker 19 (35:10):
RUNNING game i just try to go out and do.
My job you know it's gonna be, really.

Speaker 18 (35:14):
Cold BUT like, i said to try to, be accountable
and you know my teammates can depend, On me so
just do.

Speaker 15 (35:19):
My, JOB quinn i know you guys are run the
whe like that wildcat that. Direct, sample yeah is it
challenge you know sometimes to get that plan because you
know the process is so different than having like a
quarterback on, the field calling to play like you have to.

Speaker 4 (35:32):
Call it can that be? Challenging?

Speaker 19 (35:33):
Sometimes no not.

Speaker 18 (35:35):
For myself coaches Know that i've process a lot of
things really.

Speaker 19 (35:38):
Fast EASY obviously.

Speaker 18 (35:40):
I was in that position for, A REASON so i
don't feel like that was anything to be.

Speaker 4 (35:44):
A question and those feels like just been ups and
downs to the run game throughout.

Speaker 7 (35:48):
The season how difficult is it to get the consistency
you're looking for when there's been so many changes up?

Speaker 18 (35:54):
WITH agres i, feel like, for myself just try to
continue to stay poised and, you know have and what
our coaches implemented each in, every week and then.

Speaker 19 (36:03):
Belief in the gods that are blocking for me and
in front.

Speaker 18 (36:05):
Of me so, just changing, you know with the, different
changes not changing my mentality and he's still trying to
attack him and DO what.

Speaker 16 (36:12):
I can what was it sort of such tough sledding in?

Speaker 5 (36:16):
One game pascanas?

Speaker 9 (36:18):
Of types i'm?

Speaker 18 (36:19):
Sorry game why was it just such tough sledding to
kind of like get anything?

Speaker 14 (36:23):
Really?

Speaker 18 (36:24):
GOING uh I wish I wish i couldn't answer that
AND say, i KNEW uh. I, don't unfortunately same THING
that i faced. Every week, you know eight non man
boxes just weren't able to, you know do anything.

Speaker 19 (36:38):
Versus that so don't have, an answer.

Speaker 4 (36:41):
What do you what do you should shown you in
these three.

Speaker 18 (36:45):
STARTS instead i think he's grown him, a, lot uh
especially so fast and the short amount.

Speaker 19 (36:50):
Of, time uh he's. Showing, Leadership uh.

Speaker 18 (36:53):
He's done a lot of uh great things with what he's.
Been given and, You know i'm excited to see him
go out there and continue to grow some of.

Speaker 14 (37:00):
The looks downfield that he's making and connecting with GUYS on, i.

Speaker 4 (37:04):
Mean do you think that.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
Could potentially keeps, going well like open some, things up.

Speaker 18 (37:09):
Like, you know if you're not Seeing, Those definitely i'll,
say definitely that definitely helps.

Speaker 19 (37:15):
For sure how does the.

Speaker 4 (37:16):
Screen game kind of help there to basically have, a big?
Big reception it seemed like he has kind of tried
to go back to the screen a couple.

Speaker 19 (37:22):
Of times so how DOES that i think it helps.

Speaker 18 (37:24):
A lot just my coach is being, able to, you
know help me get in space and when those boxes,
are packed me still being able to DO what i
can and produce at a high level anywhere on.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
The, field finally Defensive End, miles garrett who is creeping
closer to the SINGLE season nfl. Sack, RECORD no i have.

Speaker 4 (37:41):
To get you talking about the run defensive Shues.

Speaker 7 (37:43):
Against tennessee so what hair to, be fixed especially Given
what chicago does on.

Speaker 8 (37:48):
THE ground, i mean we just want As a signmons
sound as we we have been in. The, PAST no i,
think guys, for you they're looking to make plays and
kind of getting out, of gaps and, you know we
gotta be true to, you know our defense and what
the scheme and rules of our. Defense are so, you

(38:11):
know we got to earn those opportunities to make. Them
pass and that's especially true.

Speaker 4 (38:14):
THIS way i feel they can be fixed going into.

Speaker 8 (38:17):
This, week absolutely it's a matter of, you know doing
your job and doing it and, you know not trying to,
you know chase a big play WITHOUT a TfL or
that's out.

Speaker 5 (38:29):
Jag number two over one hundred and fifty. Two years
it's going to be challenges, that people you GUYS are.

Speaker 8 (38:37):
I mean they're tough to Similar to detroit when you
know when you look at you know how they're built
and know how they're the, running backs you know how
they move and how they know attack. Down field and
both of them. Are talented they're kind of built More,
like montgomery but they, run hard and you know they're
physical and they they know strength, actually arts and they

(38:58):
know they keep. On.

Speaker 14 (38:58):
Coming wow Watching the halo just seems so good at
escaping this season and keeping.

Speaker 4 (39:04):
Plays alive like what are you seeing on film in?

Speaker 15 (39:06):
That regard and how give?

Speaker 14 (39:07):
Him more do you think.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
He's kind of need to?

Speaker 8 (39:09):
TAKE down, i mean he's got. Great periphles, you know
it's a lot of time it looks like his his
eyes the downfield and he spins out of his sack
or he ducts out. Of one so so like when
you see a guy, like that, you know it gives
you gives you a little bit Of like lamar or,

(39:33):
my god looking, great buddy a little Bit, of lamar
a little bit of pat, you know as far as
how he moves and how he, he uh, you know
navigates through the Pocket and i'm just able to skip
out unscathed and looking downfield making those, big plays and
you gotta make him look a little bit more in.

(39:55):
The Ordinary, on sunday my.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
Mom said, for them you have been Long film and
how much Does having joe next to the moa kind.

Speaker 19 (40:03):
Of, help them you know it is he sort of
ADJUSTING tois.

Speaker 8 (40:08):
I mean? What's, good uh it's real patient with, his hands.
You know you see he's physical in the run and
he's integrated. Pretty WELL so i mean Playing with joe's
Gonna help boots any any line and anyone next. To
him so you know it's gonna be, a challenge, but
uh he's gotta make the most of. The, opportunity miles

(40:32):
he obviously he would like to be in the.

Speaker 15 (40:34):
PLAYOFF chance i, feel like is there some excitement that
you kind of get to play playing three teams? Or
something up they're all sort of basically playing playoff teams.

Speaker 8 (40:41):
Right, NOW yeah i don't want them, to, think no
we're just, gonna be, you know an easy victory or
something they can just walk over and then not even.
Think ABOUT kind, i mean they've got to earn everything
they get and then we're coming in to win just like.
They ARE so i don't care what the, WEATHER is
i don't care what. The guitar, you know YOU gotta
i gotta go and get It. Every Sunday because.

Speaker 7 (41:04):
Kima is going into.

Speaker 5 (41:06):
This game saying that he's very determined not to let
you SEND the nfl sing The season sackford.

Speaker 19 (41:13):
Against You so i'm sure that is.

Speaker 5 (41:16):
Probably gonna be a team. White effort and do you
feel like that's just.

Speaker 14 (41:19):
Gonna be how what you?

Speaker 8 (41:21):
Want to, EVERYONE understand, i mean quarterbacks don't want to,
get sacked no matter what way. It Is so i'm
not too worried. About that of course they want to
keep me out. The quarterback. Everyone does and know it's
more than just me to, worry about, You KNOW like, i,
said first, you know we got to stop the run,

(41:43):
and uh, you know earn those opportunities to rush the
pass her and make them even want to. Do that,
so no he's they can do it. Pretty well and
uh you know they have A great russian game and
they have a great play action game to move in
the pocket and none to use. His legs so we've
got to get him out, of that you know if you,
want to, you know have a chance to see him.
Drop BACK but i have a lot of respect for,

(42:05):
you Know how elucid is and what he can. Really do,
no way and he uh has a ball.

Speaker 4 (42:10):
THAT'S hand i was remember teach you wanted her to.

Speaker 10 (42:13):
Collapse along, you know you have a lot of respect
for him and want you, with him and you would
trying to reach out to him already Thin, h.

Speaker 8 (42:26):
Well since, YOU guys i reached out, to HIM like
i don't have his number, or ANYTHING but i reached
out to him to. See him. Was sorry So now
i'm hoping for. The best fan like at the end of,
the day on our teams may be rivals and, you
know they might create a rivalry, between us but he's not,
my Enemy and i'm hoping for, the best, you know
for him and his health and n he comes, back

(42:47):
soon you know whatever or whatever, It is i'm you
said it to collapse on that's MORE than. I knew
i just knew it was a, you know a long.
U injury so, he's broady simlay to at. Least It
so i'm praying for the best For the. White family.

Speaker 15 (43:03):
Attention to SEX get TfL and understated or, underrated stack you.

Speaker 8 (43:07):
Know absolutely, you know some of my friends show the
TFLs are harder to get the sacks just because there's
no half TFLs and you have, to really, you know
bring them. Down yourself and, you know if anyone know jumps,
on it you know that's that's just. A Tackle, so
bill they're difficult. In anyway, you know they're loss of

(43:28):
loss of the down plays and loss of yards plays just,
like sacks and and more often, than not they're going
to be running. The ball so those those players have,
you know as much or a bigger impact. Than sacks
those sacks are are glorified in the, big plays and
you're making a play on the the most valued player
you know on. The FIELD so i see the argument,
for both but we're gonna need Both this Sunday.

Speaker 14 (43:50):
From miles last week you talked about what you're what
the record setting sack life.

Speaker 11 (43:55):
Look like have you thought about there's.

Speaker 9 (43:58):
Anything the Extra on bose operation.

Speaker 15 (44:01):
That you have playing and get it or when you
get it now.

Speaker 4 (44:04):
Hastened to be an iconic.

Speaker 8 (44:05):
Play that's or you've played a one, This year well
that'd be spread, A Moment and i'm thinking about the
making the play and whatever happens after. The play now
it's just the cherry. On top, you know twenty five.

Speaker 10 (44:17):
Is, your number but what do you see twenty?

Speaker 8 (44:19):
Next? Year?

Speaker 7 (44:19):
Name now is that?

Speaker 19 (44:21):
Whose?

Speaker 8 (44:23):
LOOSE mean i don't even think? About it, you know
how do we get the? Next one it's it's all,
you know, my mind you know can handle, right now,
you know what's what's the next one? Look like what
are the ops? Looking like and how do we get
them when we?

Speaker 4 (44:40):
WANT them i know we talk a lot about you
in the all.

Speaker 7 (44:43):
Time grades jock earlier today said you the best the
tupch of player he's ever seen in, you know from
his time playing and coaching in.

Speaker 4 (44:50):
The league what does it mean for you to hear
the coach you guys's been around.

Speaker 8 (44:55):
A while, saying well he's seen a whole lot, and
uh uh it it means. A lot, i'm hoping, You
know clyde one day will say. The SAME but i
mean that's a that's a help of, an honor, you,
Know right he's he's played with some some really, great
ones and he's got the honor of coaching and and
putting up filming some early. Great ones, and uh at

(45:16):
the end of, the day if we wanna just be
the best that we can be in and let the,
you know opinions. And ARGUMENTS but, i say may but
you know that is something THAT uh, i had, you
know in my mind not coming into the League and
i'm being talked. About myself, It's GREAT so i wanna
continue to, you know just put myself into. That conversation,
no school more of, your guys you are you.

Speaker 4 (45:37):
Have talked, about this.

Speaker 5 (45:40):
Sad records all of them, as well wanna help pitch
in and do whatever they can to make.

Speaker 6 (45:45):
Sure that you get.

Speaker 5 (45:46):
It, all yeah rowling Around what rant was, Talking about
he's gonna hold up the quarterback and to show up and, You,
know alex you know they're all it's like. A team
how how does that make you feel that you know
that these guys they're just as excited or maybe even more.

Speaker 8 (46:01):
EXCITING episode, i mean it's actually a team step at
the end of. The day and when we talk about four,
equs one it was it's for uh deepest in linement
and we're going against a five different Office in lineman
and we couldn't do it without don't. Working. Together uh
and then, you know, getting blitchers getting guys coming off,

(46:22):
the edge going through, the middle occupying more blockers at,
lone ers you get one on ones or, you know
even getting the chipper off a little bit quicker and.
All that, you know it's a little, bit understated but taking,
into account you know when we watch film and then,
we're appreciating, you know the the, hard working, you know
the execution that everyone has to have to even make
us a. Sack happen, and uh, You know i'm very

(46:43):
grateful for the TEAMMATES that i have it once they do.

Speaker 15 (46:45):
For me did did albs make a convincing case to
display that Sack?

Speaker 8 (46:49):
On, sunday hey that's with him IN. The nfl i'm
not gonna. Fight it do you see you a lot
of times. Defense flaming it's that?

Speaker 2 (46:58):
Big contract what's the time for you and take it To, another.

Speaker 8 (47:13):
Uh it's because the money didn't mean much. TO me,
i mean it's nice to have, the security having no
guarantees and, you know not being out there knowing THAT
if i got hurt that there would there would be
nothing for uh hope for the rest of my career
that they had to. Give me and that's kind of

(47:35):
security for my family and NO family i hope to
have in. The future and it was always. About them
was achieving the POTENTIAL that I knew i had and,
you know working together and to create something that you
know would h understand the test. Of time so whether
that's team sacks and chasing that goal or individual sacks
now knowing that there was still more in, the tank,

(47:57):
you know knowing more that we could do and more
that we. Could ACHIEVE and i don't know if it's
my best rushing year as far AS what i can
do AND what i have shown on, the field, but
no statistically, it has and you know it's it's it's
shown up with the work that we've all, put IN and.
I don't i'll find myself everything complacent WITH anything, i
do and so there's never going to be any time

(48:19):
for me to take it easier or ALAST because i
attack everything the same that time of Percent that i'll.
