In today’s Faith Walk segment, Erica Campbell encourages listeners not to worry, drawing inspiration from biblical passages like Matthew 6:25-34 that remind us God provides for our needs. She emphasizes daily surrender through prayer, and the power of “Don’t sit on your testimony”—a powerful Erica‑ism urging believers to boldly share their story and inspire others. This ties in beautifully with Dr. Willie Jolley’s “Winning with Affirmations” lesson, urging us to declare positive truths over our lives daily—blessings of health, wealth, and wisdom—to align our words with God’s promises.

During Love Talk, Erica explores why love shouldn’t feel bad, urging listeners to reject toxic dynamics and embrace relationships founded on mutual respect and grace. In light of recent news, the “Get Up Poll” revealed national grief over the death of Malcolm‑Jamal Warner, the beloved Cosby Show actor who tragically drowned at age 54 while vacationing in Costa Rica—an unexpected loss that continues to ripple through the entertainment community. With heartfelt “Joys and Concerns” and trending topics woven throughout, this episode offers a balanced blend of spiritual encouragement, emotional reflection, and communal mourning, grounding listeners in faith while addressing the highs and lows of life.

Speaker 6 (02:10):
It's Sybil Wilkes with what We Need to Know. TMZ
confirmed Monday that actor Malcolm Jamal Warner died at the
age of fifty four after drowning while on vacation in
Costa Rica over the weekend. Warner, beloved for his Emmy
nominated role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, was
reportedly caught in a high current while swimming with his daughter.

(02:31):
Bystanders were able to pull him from the water, but
he was pronounced dead at the scene. Malcolm Jamal Warner
survived by a wife and daughter, whose names.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
He kept private.

Speaker 6 (02:41):
The Trump administration released nearly two hundred thousand pages of
FBI surveillance records on Martin Luther King Junior, documents that
have been sealed since nineteen seventy seven. The release comes
despite objections from the King's surviving children and the civil
rights group he once led. Was stressed the deeply personal
nature of the files. In a statement, the King family

(03:03):
urged the public to view the records within their full
historical context, rather than as sensational material. A federal judge
sentenced former Kentucky officer Fred Hankison to nearly three years
in prison for using excessive force during the twenty twenty
raid they killed the young African American woman by the
name of Brianna Taylor. Though Hankerson fired ten shots and

(03:25):
did not hit anyone, he is the first person to
receive prison time in this case. The judge rejected the
Department of Justice's recommendation for no prison time, calling that
outcome inappropriate and expressing surprise that more people were not hurt.
Seventeen year old triplets Helena Henri and Hinaya Rivers from Bridgewaters,

(03:46):
Long Island, made history as the first black triplets to
achieve Eagle Scout status. Inspired by a meeting with the
Suffolk County Sheriff at age eleven, the siblings committed themselves
to years of community service leadership through Scouting. They credit
their parents for unwavering support throughout their Eagle Scout journey.

(04:07):
I'm Sybil Wilkes, being formed, be empowered in Big Game.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
It's Griff Jim Up Sports Minute.

wasn't for Malcolm Jamal Warner. I saw somebody that I
could be I saw somebody that looked like me when
I was a kid.

Speaker 8 (04:28):
Man.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
Rest in peace, Homie.

Speaker 7 (04:30):
Damon Lillard is back with the Portland Trailblazers. He just
signed a three year deal forty two million. But the
first round ballot Hall of Famer is back to the crib,
even though he's really from the Ya. He played in
Portland his first eleven season, nine time All Star. He
probably will not play this season because of his Achilles tendon.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
But I'm happy for him. Way to go back home.

Speaker 7 (04:59):
And speaking of going back home, Chris Paul is an
LA Clipper again.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
How about that? Everybody going back to the grib.

Speaker 7 (05:07):
Dallas Cowboys star Michael Parsons is going to camp even
though his contract is not done. And this week, today

Cedric Baylead, his birthday is today. And Pastor Eric Scott
and if it's your birthday, well you shout it out.

You're listening to Get Up Eric Campo.

Speaker 9 (05:58):
Faith walking right now, a man new faith.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
Yes, it is time for the faith walk of the day.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
And Pastor Campbell preached a message to the women, and
the message was, Mama, God said don't worry. And he
used all the scriptures that tell us be anxious for nothing,
all the scriptures that tell us to cast our cares
on him because he cares for us. And it was
a beautiful message to the mother's but it was really
a message for everyone about trusting God. One of the

(06:29):
scriptures that he uses was don't take worry into tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
I'm giving you the.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Aeric version, don't take worry of today and tomorrow, because
tomorrow has enough worries of its own. And I just
thought about how sometimes the reason was so weighted down.
We're taking worries from years ago into our present. We're
taking worries from from days ago, into our present. We're
taking worries from yesterday into tomorrow. What can you do
and how can you change it? You can't, So why

(06:57):
are you carrying the level of worry. Do what you
can and put the rest in the hands of God.
But to the mothers and to the parents who are
raising this next generation. You're worried about if they're hearing you,
worry about if you're praying enough, worried about their friends
and where they go, Worrying if they're safe, worrying if
they're making good choices, worrying if they ate right, all
these things that come with sometimes parenting, parenting. But it

(07:20):
also implies that God, I am concerned about.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
What you'll be able to do.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
You can't shield them from their testimony. You can't shield
them from the choices that they make. And so I
want you to put that in the hands of God.
Learn to at the end of the day say God,
this day is over, and I release every worry that
is not a signed to me to you. There are
some things you must be concerned about. In some things
that you must carry, family and health things and things

(07:46):
like that. You know somebody not being well and in
the hospital. Yes, you can't say I'm leaving yesterday in that,
but you can leave the worries and yesterday. You can
trust that God is a healer. Today I woke up
with brand new mercy. He said, goodness and mercy were
following me all the days of my life. So regardless
of my circumstance and situation, I will say what God
has said to me for me about me, and I
need you to do the same, to speak.

Speaker 5 (08:08):
Life over your life.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
I know that you're going through tough things, but you
have got to trust God. All things are possible to
them that believe you're speaking about the problem like you
believe it more than you believe that God is a solution.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
So stop worrying and trust God.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Rte your faith declaration, you put your faith music on,
you listen to get up on this because you know
we gonna encourage you to trust God and don't worry.
God will work it out. It may not work out
the day you want or the way you want, but
I promise you God, I promise y'all, he will work
it out.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
I trust that and I believe that. That is the
faith walk of the day.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
If you're listening to Get Up.

Speaker 18 (25:11):
Real God of the Day or Get Up Mornings with
Erica Campbell.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
You know, I encounter a lot of people who God
has done great things for, and sometimes I find that
they are hesitant to testify because they don't want their
blessing to offend someone else.

Speaker 5 (25:34):
I have felt that before.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
Where you know, my marriage is good, I'm I'm happily married,
my kids are healthy, I'm blessed, I'm working and I'm
happy about it. But sometimes I hesitate every now and
again because I know everybody doesn't have this situation, and
I don't want them to feel bad because I'm blessed.

Speaker 5 (25:54):
But here's my struggle.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
How do I testify of the goodness of God and
be more concerned about who is offended than testifying about
the goodness of God. Psalm sixty six and sixteen says,
come in here, all you who fear God, and I
will tell you what He has done for my soul.
That sounds like a testimony. Oh give thanks and to
the Lord, for he is good and his mercy endures forever.

(26:17):
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so who he
has redeemed from trouble? So when God has been good,
we've got a requirement to tell of his goodness. Right,
And so don't be ashamed when things are going good
for you just because they're not going good for somebody else.
I don't know why, and I don't have the explanation
for you. But what I do know is if you
are blessed, you are well within your right to talk

(26:40):
about the goodness of God in your life.

Speaker 5 (26:42):
I didn't say brag.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
I said testify of the goodness of God, letting someone
know that what God has done for you he can
do for them as well. Because He's not a God
who's respective has respective person.

Speaker 5 (26:53):
And I'm only blessing this one. I'm only blessing that one.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
But when you have walked in obedience, when you have
walked in honor, when you have loved your neighbor, when
you have been a good steward over what God has
given you, when you have handled your situations well, when
you have shown kindness to strangers, when you have worked
on yourself and on your own relationship, and God has
blessed you because of it, testify of his goodness. That's
how we encourage people. I was encouraged to do certain

(27:17):
things because I seen other people do certain things. When
I went to a Yolanda Adam concert, sitting on the
front row, going oh, I want to do that one day,
it encouraged me.

Speaker 5 (27:25):
I didn't sit in that seat and go I could
sing too. Why isn't in my chance?

Speaker 10 (27:28):
Why?

Speaker 5 (27:28):
And God bless me.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
I didn't have that kind of spirit. I got excited
about somebody else's blessings. When you learn to get excited
about somebody else's blessings, God will bless you. I remember
when I was young and married and struggling in my marriage,
and the Holy Spirit told me, as you pray for
your friend's marriage, I will fix yours. As you look
at other people and say, oh God, I'm grateful for

(27:50):
the blessings in their life. As you celebrate and pray
for other people that are going through and keep my
eyes off myself, I will bless you. I believe I'm
walking in that to this day. So don't you there,
sit on your time testimony of what God has done
done for you. Don't you sit on your testimony of
what God has done in your family and your business
and your relationship. Testify of the goodness of God, and
do it boldly, of course, in the spirit of Christ,

(28:14):
you know, not trying to make nobody feel bad. But
if they do that, ain't your job to tend to you?
Just tell of God's goodness. You could be thankful and
happy and grateful all of that. Don't you diminish your
joy because they can't understand it. Don't you diminish your
happiness because they may not like that. It's okay, they'll
get over it. God will bless them too. But right
now it's your turn. Take your turn, and walk in

(28:37):
your turn and be happy about your turn. It is okay,
all right?

Speaker 5 (28:40):
That is my Erkaism for the day. I love you,
and I mean it. I've seen somebody do this and
it just ooh, I said, NA says no. You work
for this.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
You did what you were supposed to do. Your business
is flourishing because you put the time in. You can't
feel bad because it didn't happen for somebody else. That's
not my assignment to talk about. So I want you
to feel good about your blessed is and testified the
goodness of God. All right, God is good all the time.
Then tell somebody all right, guys, that's the rigorism of
the day.

Speaker 5 (29:06):
Stick around.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
Chri's got the joys and concerns up next, and of
course we got more great gospel music just for you.

Speaker 5 (29:11):
Let's get up mornings. Let's gonna be great.

Speaker 9 (29:22):

first giving honor at the sky los ahead of my life,
I'd like to say up a glass to be in
the house with the Lord one more time, elvishirl, because

(30:19):
he brought me from my moddy.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
Mighty long way twins. I could have been dead leapt
in the grave.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
But God, it's good all the time, all the time.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
Ride yes, yes, yes, y'all missed my tambourine. You did
and did yeah and there a you so.

Speaker 7 (30:42):
Lemna take y'all on a on a ride that's with
all them salt so back in the day, Okay. On
September twentieth, nineteen eighty four, ten days before my birthday,
I was in the eighth grade and at eight pm
on NBC a show called The Cosby Show came on.

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Now I was a member of DELAYNE.

Speaker 7 (31:07):
I went to Delano Junior High School in Delano, California,
and I had never seen in my life a black dad,
a black mom, a black daughter of black many black daughters,

(31:28):
a black son. Remember, we had random shows like Webstern
and Different Strokes who they didn't have a black dad.
They had Conrad Bang mister Drummond.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
So this show changed my life.

Speaker 8 (31:44):
And and and.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
Malcolm Jamal Warner THEO.

Speaker 7 (31:50):
Was the same age as me, like he was. We
was going through the same things. Now he wore better
clothes because we was broke. But I just who will
never forget that Gordon Guard Trail shirt episode.

Speaker 4 (32:03):
When he was like the nays That was the best.
He had the best shag ever, he had the best
hold on he did and didn't.

Speaker 7 (32:14):
Look if you look at the cover of the Boys
in the Hood Movie trailer, Cooba Gooding Junior has on
a yellow Gordon Guard Trail shirt. Nobody don't Guard Trail
was everything? Come on, y'all, this dude was one of us.
We was, we was him. Like now, everything that happened

(32:37):
with Bill Cosby later don't have nothing to do with
Michael Jamal Warner.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
THEO was our dude, man or or the creation that
he created. Yeah, the black family.

Speaker 7 (32:49):
Well here, how about this when the Cosby Show came on,
nobody in my house got a whoopings. Now it's somebody
in that car right now, saying Griff. Now I'm looking
at the boys in the hook cut.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
You make me sick.

Speaker 19 (33:01):
Good.

Speaker 7 (33:01):
You get to say, ain'ty all right? Somebody else is
saying that. You get to say, ain'ty all right? But
if you was like me and you know man best
character on TV cover, that's right right, mother, Jamal warning
to tell my grandma and Michael Jackson. I said it

(33:23):
was cracking.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
You got me smiling real big. Take me all the
way back, all the memories.

Speaker 10 (33:29):
Yeah, you're right.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
When you met him, you just felt like he was
your brother. He's one of us. You never lied on
that he's one of us. That thing hit us so
hard yesterday just you was.

Speaker 7 (33:40):
The first person to send me the text, and then
I got ninety text, but it was you, Ryl, thank.

Speaker 4 (33:45):
You for the bad news. You're welcome Get Up Boardings

Speaker 2 (34:01):

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Back from Japan.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Japanese. That's what Ron said earlier.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
We're gonna talk to him about his trip to Japan
as he was entertaining the troops coming up this hours.
Also wake up and went with doctor Willie Jolly, his
messages winning the affirmation. Music's on the way this hour
for Fred Hammond, Ty Tribbett and Jonathan McReynolds. Right now,
here's Donald Lawrence with words on Get Up Mornings with
Erica Campbell.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
Hello, Okay, you're the guess, Larry, We've got guests.

Speaker 4 (34:52):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Grip went to Japan and was there performing for the troops.
Watching the video, and I know we didn't. You didn't
even scratch the surface with all the things that you did.
So I just wanted you to share with the Get
Up Church your experience in Japan.

Speaker 7 (35:10):
Well, so shout out to all the veterans and the
people listening to us.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
This active duty I was.

Speaker 7 (35:15):
I was on marine basis, even though Deebretary, comedian just
hit me, said her brother was stationed at Okinawa and
he was in the Air Force. I met a couple
of Air Force people, but mostly it was Marines. I
performed at Camp Kenser, Camp Schwab, Camp Hansen, and Camp
Foster with comedian named Maya the journo The Georgio Maya

(35:40):
de Georgio, She's from New York, lives in LA right now.
And it was all through my Homeboy Kenny Hills production
company Pacific International Entertainment. He's brought me over there before,
but it was so long ago, so it was so cool.
It was so cool to go there.

Speaker 19 (35:58):
Man.

Speaker 7 (35:59):
Thank you to my manager Roz Thompson for negotiating that.
Oh I was on I was on AFN. SO. AFN
Schuyl you know is the Armed Forces Network when you
overseas and it's radio on TV. But I was overseas
in Germany stationed in Augsburg, and I used to listen

(36:19):
to AFN and then watch AFN. So to be on
AFN doing radio as a radio dude, I couldn't even man,
I was trying not to cry. Shout out to my guys,
Sauceboss who was on air when I was there. Oh
I saw Superman in Imax at a Japanese.

Speaker 8 (36:42):
Mall. It was it was.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
It was in subtitles, Japanese subtitles.

Speaker 7 (36:47):
No, no, no, it was all the way in English.
It was in Japanese subtitles. But here's what's crazy. It
started at eight fifteen in the morning, and we was like,
who goes to the movies that eight fifteen? But then
I realized English is not their language, so they fit
you in when they can. They need the IMAX for

(37:08):
the Japanese people for the rest of the day, so
we appreciated having Superman for breakfast. Japanese people really do
not speak English like that, nor do they try. All
you hear is like giggles and high like they be
you excuse me, I'm looking for the movie theater. They
go height, so Hi means yes. I just found out

(37:31):
that hi means yes, but they always said hi. Then
the first time you'd be like, hell, I don't go ight,
and you go height, and then they go hip, you
go height. So that was like one of my first jokes.
It's to giggle though. Google Translate. Let me tell everybody,

(37:53):
download Google Translate right now. Download Google Translate right now.
Mo it's a bunch of mo. On there you can
go English to Japanese right and then you can say
I want to go I want to go to the store.
I want to go to the store. Hold on, I

(38:15):
want to go to the store. And then I want
to buy some potatoes and I need some ketchup, and
then they will play it back in their language. Look,
oh man, yeah, look, it's it's amazing.

Speaker 4 (38:28):
Let me see what dud if yeah, they play it
back in their own language.

Speaker 7 (38:38):
And then not only that, Sheryl, you could put it
on camera mode on Google Translate, put it on Japanese
to English and read a whole Japanese menu. Was gonna
put it all in English for you, promise you, it is,
it is, it is. If you go anywhere, it can
do all languages, Zulu, Polish, Russian, every download Google Translate.

Speaker 4 (39:04):
It'll change your life.

Speaker 7 (39:05):
But the thirteen plus hour different Hiryl was Banana. So
right now it's eight am in Atlanta and New York
on the East coast, and Okinawa it's nine pm tomorrow,
Tuesday night. Wow, So trying to communicate with my mom
and Lanika and was just crazy. But I thank God

(39:28):
for the experience. I had a comment somebody said, it
was so thank you for going over there. I served
I was there, and we need to see black celebrities,
you know, on base. But to me, I feel like,
as a veteran and you know, a celebrity, that is
my obligation. So I thank God, Thank Roz, Thank Kenny Hill,

(39:48):
good things. Shout out to the Marines. Cool, We're glad
you're back though.

Speaker 1 (39:53):
Thanks.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
I'm glad to.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
Wake up and Win with Doctor Willie Jolly is coming

Speaker 9 (40:02):
If you're listening to get up, Eric Campbo, It's time
to wake up and win with doctor Willie Jollyboy.

This is doctor Willy Jolly, author of the book Are
set Back as a set up for comeback and to
day this time of challenge and change.

Speaker 4 (40:24):
I want to give you tips to come back.

Speaker 18 (40:26):
I shared recently the four questions that help you achieve
greater results by giving you clarity.

Speaker 4 (40:31):
What do you want?

Speaker 18 (40:32):
What are you doing to get what you want? What
more could you be doing to get what you want?
And what must you stop doing to get what you want?

Speaker 8 (40:39):
Now?

Speaker 18 (40:39):
You need to add affirmation to your daily routine. Scripture
speaks to the impact of your words. Say to this mountain,
be moved and cast into the sea, and it shall
be done.

Speaker 14 (40:49):
So.

Speaker 18 (40:49):
You need to speak good into your life, and only good.
Speak blessings and never curses. Speak positive into your life
on a daily basis. Speak that you are blessed and
great for and healthy and wealthy and wise. Speak blessings
into your family, your finances, and your future, and you
won't be amazed how your future will bloom and blossom

(41:10):
with good This is doctor Willie Jolly look go to
win with Willie dot com. Win with Willy dot com
for resources to help you win more. Remember your best
as yet to come. You've heard from us Now I'm so.

Speaker 10 (41:21):
Excited really because I got through and I can eat.

Speaker 7 (41:24):
The get Up hole is off, you know morning the
get Up polls brought to you by the Fantastic Voyage.

Speaker 4 (41:30):
The twenty twenty five time joined.

Speaker 7 (41:31):
Fantastic Voyage set sale this fall celebrate twenty five years
of Mary Mary Book. You're Kevin now at FV two
zero two five dot com or called two one four
four nine five nineteen sixty three.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
Cheryl, What are we talking about today?

Speaker 2 (41:47):
Let me guess y, Yeah, we gotta talk about it,
and I want the Get Up Church to an opportunity
to talk about it because I know Sybil shared it
in her news and we talked about it all throughout
our breaks. But this thing has you talked about it
in your joys and concerns. It just really shook us right.
Like yesterday we got word that Malcolm Jamal Warner passed.

(42:07):
It was like this can't be true, like you just
it's certain people in our culture, like it was like
when when Michael Jackson passed, or Marvin Gaye or you.

Speaker 4 (42:16):
Know, or Frankie Beckley.

Speaker 2 (42:17):
I mean even though that you know, Frankie was a
little older and we kind of you know, as people
get older you expect that, but this kind of like
hit us hard because he was like our brother. Like
man grew up with him, like we're all the same age,
and so we grew up with him like that's our
little brother, my little brother.

Speaker 4 (42:35):
You're a big brother, but my little brother, you know
what I mean.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
And it was like family, you know, the family just
felt like home. And then if you when you met
him personally, like we've been saying earlier, he really felt
like family because he was just a nice guy.

Speaker 4 (42:49):
He was just a nice guy.

Speaker 7 (42:51):
No none, Yeah, that smiled up. I'm telling you. Smile
was on facts. But he treated everybody like they really
was his family. And to me, I modeled myself after.

Speaker 4 (43:08):
People like him.

Speaker 7 (43:10):
And you know, I read in a People magazine when
I was like twelve that Tom Cruise at restaurants always
went to the back and thanked the chefs and the waitresses,
and like I love those aspects of being a celebrity.

Speaker 4 (43:26):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (43:26):
It's not to get that camera out of my face.
It's the oh Man. And he just and I said earlier,
it just reminded. He just so reminded me of Tommy Ford,
how Tommy understood and Martin.

Speaker 4 (43:39):
I'm sure Malcolm was the same way that it was.

Speaker 7 (43:44):
Yeah, he's getting new viewers at a Cosmy show every day,
So it could be our people, our age, but then
it could be my grandson's age, and you know what
I mean exactly, And then the other projects that he's done.
You know, like every show that he was on, we
watched because we want to support you know what I mean.
You wanted to support see because child you know, it's
something about childhood stars and how it affects their mental

(44:07):
and as you grow up you see different things that
they've done crazy because.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
They were childhood stars, you know what I mean. But
he was grounded, Like he gave his parents kudos. Watched
an interview he said it was because my parents kept
me grounded. He was like, I'm a good dude because
my father was a good dude, you know what I mean.
He talked about. I watched a clip yesterday of him
doing a podcast and somebody asked him about his legacy

(44:33):
and what did you want your legacy to be, and
he kind of stumbled on it, but he was like,
I know a lot of folks would think that, you know,
the legacy is what I've done with the Cosby Show,
but just also reinvent inventing myself, being able to expose
my other gifts and talents and what I leave, you know,
to my child and my wife.

Speaker 4 (44:50):
And I love how he kept his family private. I mean,
that's if that was his choice. He was able to
do that, and I just wanted to hear from everybody
said yesterday too, he was marri he's married with a
daughter m hm.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
And he would talk about in post little picture sometime,
but never like in their face. You never would see
their face.

Speaker 7 (45:07):
Sadly, he would say, today is my daughter's birthday and
woo wooh wooh, like yeah, just keep it a moving
like regular.

Speaker 15 (45:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:14):
So we want to ask the Gift Church, what are
your thoughts on the passing of Malcolm Jamal Warner. We
want to give you voice, want to give you opportunity
to share as well. Eight seven seven two four two
two four two six eight seven seven two four two
two four two six. We're gonna cry with you because
we feel it too. Call us now, tell us your
feelings and your thoughts about the passing of Malcolm Jamal Warner.

(45:36):
Let's honor him today, all right, call in now eight
seven seven two four two two four two six.

Speaker 4 (45:49):
If you're listening to get up with Erica Kimp, you
heard from us.

Speaker 10 (45:55):
I'm so excited, really because I got through and.

Speaker 1 (45:57):
I can get a whole is off.

Speaker 7 (45:59):
You know, we're talking about Malcolm Jamal Warner this morning.
We want y'all to call us. Let's go to the
lines and talk to the Homie Dale and Charlotte Dill.

Speaker 4 (46:10):
What's your thoughts?

Speaker 6 (46:11):
Man man?

Speaker 19 (46:13):
You know he broke mods. He was the one that
actually showed us that, hey, a black man could be intelligence,
he could be cool, he can be good at his
great cool, he could be cool and respectful to his parents.
It's something that we hadn't seen much of that. I
don't think we saw any of that TV. You know,
we saw the nerd folks, we saw the feminized guys,

(46:37):
the straight up brother. You know, it's coming from poverty,
in the ghetto whatever. Okay, that's real. But we were
able to see a templit sit by Malcolm Jamal Warner,
and hopefully we'll continue to see more of that because
it's blacking still in Hollywood. He was able to actually
show young black men, hey, there's another way than doing
this thing that's going to be disrespectful, get you in trouble.

(47:00):
He was literally an icon in that and we will
have to continue to celebrate him because much respects. And
we lost somebody in North to Charles North Carolina too,
civil rights pioneer yesterday, James E. Ferguson the third, Ferguson
the second, My bad, but civil rights pioneer. Yesterday was
a rough day. So we just go praise some extra

(47:20):
holy blessing on that family too, because man, yesterday was
a rough day.

Speaker 7 (47:25):
We appreciate you calling Dale man, Love you dog, have
the blessed day ever.

Speaker 19 (47:29):
Love you all, man, Thank you for what y'all do.
And welcome back, my brother, welcome back to Japan.

Speaker 4 (47:33):
Thank you man.

Speaker 2 (47:34):
Later, Ronnie and Philly's on the line, Ronnie, what are
your thoughts about the passing of Malcolm Jamal Warner.

Speaker 4 (47:40):
Ronnie Gras, welcome back from Japan, thank you.

Speaker 15 (47:46):
Anyway, when I heard it yesterday, the first thing I
heard was it came from TMG. I said, you know,
day bus to climb Anyway, moving forward, I said, this
can't be right, this can't be real. But then, of
course it did turn out that it was real, and
I was just so heartbroken. You know, I was already

(48:07):
a full grown adult teacher in the Philly public schools
when the COS show came on. But that was our
black royalty. That was that gave us empowerment.

Speaker 8 (48:15):
That show.

Speaker 15 (48:17):
And I just say a group of posts and I said,
CEO was the character that gave black boys something to
look at that was positive. It wasn't before to read.
I'm not gonna mention no other shows because you know,
we grew up. We heard good times and stuff like that,
but it wasn't what was me in the struggle. And
that's a and that's a real part of our culture.
But this was something different. This said hold your head

(48:40):
up and walk up straight with dignity.

Speaker 7 (48:44):
Eight seven seven two two two four two six. It's
time for the get up PA. We're talking about Malcolm
Jamal Warner. Let's go to New Orleans and talk to
Steven briefly, tell us about your thoughts on Malcolm, Jamal
warner Man, what was going on?

Speaker 1 (48:58):
Gril?

Speaker 4 (48:59):
What opped doubt?

Speaker 20 (49:00):
Melgum was a good dude, a good at heart. I
just the only reason I'm speaking and I normally don't
say nothing. I'd like to listen at y'all show. First
of all, thank y'all for this show with Melcolm Man.
Listen the episode on the cos this show where him
and Bill was in that room and he was explaining

(49:20):
to him about life. They talk about he was an
average dude and he was gonna do this and do
that average They used the monopoly money. We all remember that. Yes, Man,
without that show, we'd probably be going left. Thank you
one thing about life and there was something totally different.

(49:41):
Bill said him straight and set us all straight in
the meantime. But Melgom was a good dude.

Speaker 10 (49:46):
His heart like you could feel his heart still beating
within us.

Speaker 4 (49:50):
That's right, you get what I'm saying. Good, Thank you
so much. We appreciate this morning.

Speaker 17 (49:57):
Man.

Speaker 1 (49:57):
Thank y'all for this shoe.

Speaker 4 (50:00):
That's the dumbest thing I ever heard, just for Bill.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
Yeah, all right, give him the hotline number if you
have a suggestion for Get Up Pole. First off, thank
you for your comments. But if you have a suggestion
for the Get Up poll where they need to call Grim.

Speaker 4 (50:15):
They need to call ninety seven two three three one

one five five seven zero. If you're listening to Get Up, Get.

Speaker 7 (50:30):
Up Mornings with Erica Campbo top of the hour, Your
boy Griff back from Japan.

Speaker 4 (50:37):
It feels good. I miss you, guys.

Speaker 7 (50:39):
I talked about y'all every day while I was there,
telling him what time they could listen to us, and
there was so many people.

Speaker 4 (50:45):
How about our girl Jay Vaughn.

Speaker 7 (50:48):
I met one of her closest friends from Okinawa, from
Saint Louis.

Speaker 4 (50:52):
It was it was just bananas, and I met.

Speaker 7 (50:56):
Kimberly Purvis was there too, Pastor Purfos's wife, So that
that was dope. Eleven minutes after the hour, Erica share
her love talk. I'm excited about this one. Also this hour,
Cheryl Jackson, I have trending topics, I have your quick
sports minute, lots going on.

Speaker 4 (51:12):
What about the music though, Cheryl music?

Speaker 2 (51:14):
This hour is on the way from Kirk Franklin, Brent Jones,
Breed Babino and here's Erica's ladiest single, trusting Obey onun
Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell.

Speaker 9 (51:25):
Let's talk about love for God, so love the world,
love talk, Get Up Morning.

Speaker 2 (51:31):
Yes, it is time for the love talk of the day.
And today I want to talk about what love looks
like and what it doesn't look like. You know, I
have three kids, y'all know that. And you can't love
me and disrespect me at the same time. You can't
love me, tell me you love me and then do
contrary to what I told you to do, not do
any of the things that you're supposed to do, and hug.

Speaker 5 (51:53):
Me, and everything is supposed to be okay and all good.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
We know many parents know the journey of parenthood, and
you know the battle between doing the right thing and
the wrong thing.

Speaker 12 (52:02):
It's real.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
But can you imagine loving someone Being in a relationship
with someone who says that they love you but constantly
disrespects you. Was constantly kind of cynical, constantly makes you
the butt of the joke.

Speaker 4 (52:14):
That ain't love.

Speaker 2 (52:15):
And it's something else going on, and you really need
to pay attention. It is not to be ignored because
that stuff doesn't go.

Speaker 4 (52:21):
Away, it grows.

Speaker 2 (52:23):
I've seen relationships become toxic because there is one who's
always poking fun, whether it is you know, you're in
a group of people that you know a group of friends,
but you're always kind of making fun of the one,
you know what I mean? That ain't if you and
only want laugh, and that's bully and it's not funny.
And so you have to be careful when you want
someone to change, but you don't never tell them you

(52:44):
need them to change.

Speaker 5 (52:45):
They're not going to.

Speaker 2 (52:46):
You must open your mouth and deal with it and
talk about it out loud, because sometimes what is your
normal in one season, say in the early stages of
your relationship, may change as you grow and evolve, just
as a human being, learning more about yourself, more about God,
more about how God loves you, and how God sees you.
And you do not deserve for someone to talk and

(53:07):
diminish and demean you and dishonor you constantly that that's
not what love looks like.

Speaker 5 (53:12):
They're always forgetting anything special about you.

Speaker 2 (53:14):
It's always two, three, four, five days later because they
forgot that means something else is more important. And I
know that may be hard to hear but I want
you to experience love for real, So don't allow people
to disrespect, dishonor demean you. And I'm not talking about
the small petty things you know you don't like what
I like. I mean intentionally doing things that they know
don't feel good to your heart. It's not your way

(53:38):
of communicating. Whether that is someone that is constantly hollering
at you and it puts you in a place where
you can't respond, and it automatically makes you silent. Speak
up in your life so you can experience love that
is real. And yes, sometimes love struggles a little bit.
Sometimes there is a dance, if you will, with Marriager

(53:58):
back and forth, a learning of one another in this
new stage and phase of your life, if there's new
age in your life. But I believe that you deserve
to speak up, and you deserve to feel good about
the people.

Speaker 5 (54:07):
That say they love you.

Speaker 2 (54:08):
It should feel like love and not torture and not punishment,
you know, and not anger, and not dishonor and not disrespect.
All right, stand up for yourself, stand up for what
you deserve, stand up for what you believe.

Speaker 4 (54:18):
All right.

Speaker 5 (54:19):
I love you and I mean it. That is the
love talk of the day.

Speaker 2 (54:21):
All right, guys, we've got trending topics and the quick
sports minute up next.

Speaker 5 (54:24):
Don't get up mornings.

Speaker 4 (54:34):
If you're listening to Get up, gimp, get up. Find
out what everybody's talking about right now. Take it over
the web.

Speaker 17 (54:44):
What is it?

Speaker 1 (54:45):
It's trending topics up to the minute.

Speaker 2 (54:47):
Trending Topics is brought to you by Secret Heat, Stress
and Activity. Sweat can be a real hassle. Secret Clinical
antipersper and stick provides three times sweat protection to take
on that challenge. Secret Chat, Secret Clinical has your back.
All right, guys, here's what's trending. We got to talk
about it and we you know, did it in our
get Up poll. Sybil talked about it and it is

(55:10):
the topic of the day. Malcolm Jamal Warner and it's
interesting how he passed away, because he passed away a hero.
He was literally in the water where his daughter and
rip currents and if you've ever been in the ocean,
you know exactly what rip currents do. My son was
caught up in a rip current before we were in
Ocean City, Maryland, and and I remember my husband, you know,

(55:32):
the helplessness we felt because we couldn't go after him,
but the lifeguards were able to bring him in. But
it's just like you just jump in the waves like
you normally do, and then all of a sudden, the
wave will take you all the way out to the
point where you can't even swim your way back in.
And so that's what he experienced when he was on
vacation in Costa Rica and just.

Speaker 7 (55:54):
That y'all call him rip currents on the East coast,
and then in Kelly we called.

Speaker 4 (55:58):
It the undertow. Oh really yeah, but it meant the
exact same thing.

Speaker 7 (56:03):
And you be swimming and then you're like, Okay, I'm
gonna go back to the shore and you're like, ooh,
the short is getting farther and farther away.

Speaker 2 (56:09):
Whoa, But I don't care how much they tell you
to swim along, you know, like a lot of corner, yeah,
instead of right into it, like you usually try to
swim towards the shore, but like cattle corner so.

Speaker 4 (56:21):
That you can get that is not an easy thing.

Speaker 2 (56:23):
You're not thinking about that right in the water and
you're trying to tread water. So we definitely understood that,
but just man, we he was just such a great guy.
We all talked about it, of course in the Get
Up Poll, we talked about it during Sybil Wilkes Live.
But he was everybody that has encountered him, any of
us that's been in entertainment, we had an opportunity to

(56:43):
interview him, or we've been in his presence, and he's
just he just was a nice guy. So outside of
the Cosby's, he did of course Malcolm and Eddie, he
did Read Between the Lines, he did the Resident, He
did a lot of television. But he also won a
Grammy in twenty fifteen for his spoken Worst So he
also was a musician. He was you know, they called
him a full renaissance guy, and yeah, it just hit

(57:06):
our heart because you know, THEO felt like our brother.

Speaker 7 (57:09):
You know, like brother, but like that guy who you
knew if you met him you be cool with him,
Like we'll be able to drink a soda or something
with him, you know what I'm saying, chop it up
about football. All the times I met him, we talked
about sports, we talked about It's like we were. He

(57:30):
reminds me, you know who was really like him a lot,
Tommy Ford. Yeah, yeah, where Yeah, he never not took
a picture. He never told people, hey man, I'm out
right now, Like he just always was that person and
he loved the business. And my my first cousin, Mac

(57:51):
Tate Stroman we call him Bean, is a big spoken
word dude in LA and has been since the early nineties.
And when he used to say Malcolm Jamal Warner was
coming to spoken word, we was like, for what, Like,
you know what I'm saying. And to watch him just
really turn into everything that you want in this business,

(58:13):
you know what I'm saying, To be loved, to be,
to keep doing different things, I mean acting and spoken
word and then music.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
And it just remain And I love how he kept
his family anonymous too, right, he kept those life and children.
But we're gonna pray for them, all right, Guys, Gotta
say congratulations to Fred Hammond. He's an honorary inductee to
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated. Along with doctor Howard Fuller
Edward Archer, Doctor Fuller was a civil rights activist, hip

(58:40):
hop artist Edward Archer as special ed Leon Robinson, acclaimed
actor doctor George Coon's former NFL player Fred also doctor
John Pierre, a Chancellor of Southern University, David Hughey, fashion
entrepreneur and doctor Defrod Sores, former Secretary of State for
New Jersey, So congresratulations.

Speaker 4 (59:00):

Speaker 2 (59:03):
Well he's not honorary. This was the honorary class with
twenty twenty five.

Speaker 4 (59:07):
Oh that's an honorary one.

Speaker 2 (59:08):

first round ballot Hall of Famer as well. It's back
