Christmas week on Get Up! Mornings with Erica Campbell brings a whole lot of heart: Erica’s “Praying For You” message turns into a real talk moment for anybody feeling tension in their relationship—she says you can see when love is missing, and encourages couples to have the hard conversation, pray for each other, and fight for the kind of love that brings peace (not just “function”).

Then gospel legend Donnie McClurkin joins the show to introduce his new song “Better After A While,” explaining it’s meant to remind people that—even in tough times—God is still in control and things will get better. Donnie also shares that this upcoming project is his final album, titled Finally, and reveals he suffered a massive heart attack right after finishing the recording—making the moment feel even more full-circle and faith-filled.

Van says one of President Trump's major accomplishments since returning
to office has been dismantling federal diversity, equity and inclusion policies,
which he argued discriminated against white and Asian Americans. Speaking
at Turning Points to USA's America Fest twenty twenty five
in Phoenix, the Vice President called DEI incompatible with American

(02:45):
values and meritocracy, saying the administration has relegated DEI to
the dustbend of history. His remarks including the assertion that
Americas no longer need to apologize for their race, or,
as the Vice President said, in the United States of America,
you don't have to apologize for being white anymore and
should be judged on Marin alone. That drew loud applause

(03:08):
from the crowd. A Mount Vernon, New York, police officer
with kidney failure is being terminated just six months before retirement,
a move that will also end his health insurance. Derek Williams,
a nineteen year veteran and former emergency Service unit officer,
said he contracted COVID in twenty twenty after working double
shifts and now requires daily dialysis to survive. The department

(03:31):
ruled his illness non job related and stopped paying him

from retired officers. CPA to the Stars. Katrina Mcraft is
letting us know the IRS is phasing out those paper

or similar methods, with paper checks limited to rare exceptions.
If thanking info is not provided, refunds could be delayed

his hands on a fan. Now, I heard the fan
called him the inward in the C word, but Detroit
is saying, no, the fan didn't do that. But that

(04:50):
man didn't run out in them stands and grab that
other man like that for nothing. Now he ended up
getting suspended for the rest of the season, and that's
the regular season. That is, so he's gonna lose over
half a million dollars and if the suspension stands, he
can lose up till forty five million of his guaranteed money.

Speaker 4 (05:08):

Speaker 5 (05:10):

(05:49):
with Erica Campbell.

Speaker 12 (05:52):
Get up.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
To get up.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Right now?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Amen, Yes, it is time for the Faith Walk of
the day. Listen, guys, if you've ever seen a mama
running through the airport that has a baby, she got
a stroller, she got the backpack, she got the baby,
she got all the things, and she's trying to get
to the gate. And she's not going as fast as
she could. Why because she's carrying so much weight. Here's

(06:29):
what makes me a little upset.

Speaker 8 (06:31):
If there's a.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
Husband nearby or a child nearby.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
And nobody says, oh, let me take the food back,
or let me take the backpack, or let me push
the stroller so they can help. But also the mother,
I'm always trying to figure out, why aren't you spreading
it out. Why aren't you saying, hey, you carry this
and i'll carry the baby. You don't have to carry
the weight all by yourself. It's making it harder for

(06:54):
you to move, and it's frustrating. And then sometimes if
you like me, while I'm carrying it. I'm trying to
figure why nobody ask. But if nobody asks, why don't
you open your mouth and say, hey, somebody carry this.
I can't do this by myself. Y'all know that phrase
is not a sin, right, I can't do this by myself.
You know that's okay to say in the Bible, I
can't do this by myself. And God never asked you

(07:16):
to not spiritually or naturally. So learn to ask for
the help that you need. My suggestion for you today
is that you run light.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
You know, the.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Scripture tells us to lay aside every weight and sin
which so easily besets us, clings to us, stops us,
and let us run with endurance the race that is
set before us. We're all on our own journey in life,
and sometimes we're carrying unnecessary things, and sometimes it makes
us feel more powerful because we're carrying things.

Speaker 8 (07:42):
Oh you know, I got this and I.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
Don't need nobody. I got me. Huh Is that really
a flaws? Is that really a I don't know not.
When you have people around you that are willing to
help or that can help, that maybe you need to
ask help.

Speaker 8 (07:56):
Maybe they're so used to.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
You doing everything. They don't think you even want the help.
Let's learn to run a little bit lighter. Let's learn
to release some things in the other hands of other
people that actually want to help you.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
It happens in ministry all the time. Well, they not
gonna handle it right.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
So if one person would a cape on trying to
be superman a superwoman doing everything, when you can literally
share the weight, share.

Speaker 8 (08:18):
The load so you can work more effectively.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
Learning to disseminate work to different people, learning to relinquish control,
that is a gift of the spirit, learning to allow
other people to do things. We see this in Scripture
with Moses when Moses was trying to talk to all
the people, and his father in law said, you're gonna
kill yourself if you don't get somebody else in here
to counsel all these hundreds of thousands of people. You

(08:41):
can't counsel everybody in one day. You don't have to
do everything in one day. Okay, lay some of those
weights for tomorrow, some of those you put on Friday.

Speaker 8 (08:50):
I can't do this all today.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Do what you can do today realistically, while keeping your sanity,
while keeping your peace, while making sure that you are healthy.

Speaker 10 (08:58):
All right.

Speaker 8 (08:58):
You don't have to do it all by yourself.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Lay aside those ways, good people, all right, guys, that
is the faith walk.

Speaker 8 (09:05):
The day now is birthday.

Speaker 3 (09:06):

Speaker 1 (16:28):
If you're listening to Get Up Eric camp Erica Ism
of the Day on Get Up Mornings with Erica Campble.

Speaker 3 (16:37):
I got a a d M from a good friend
of mine and just to call to give me a
word from the Lord and to let me know that
she was praying for me.

Speaker 8 (16:47):
And it was right on time.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
It was a good old word that let me know
what was on the way and how to prepare myself
spiritually for what was on the way. And I just
love to know that somebody, that God is putting me
on somebody's mind. I the reason I love it so
much is because I'm a person that will randomly call people,

(17:12):
randomly send a message, and I always love the joy
that I hear from them because I maybe texted or
sent a message.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Let's learn to do that more.

Speaker 8 (17:21):
It's so many songs.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Listen, my sister Tina Campbell released a song called Pray
for Me last night last year. And then there's a
song that I grew up in church here and somebody
prayed for me, had me on their mind, took the
time and pray for me. They didn't have no doubt
that God would bring me out. I'm so glad somebody
prayed for me. I want you to know that somebody
is praying for you, or you may be the somebody

(17:42):
that needs to pray for somebody. And so today I
want you to keep that in mind that we're all
dealing with things and going through something, and so you
praying for somebody could be just the thing that they
need to bring them through you. Praying for somebody could
be just the thing that stops the hand of the
enemy from making them lose it all. So I want
you to take the moment to think about who can
I pray for today? Who can I call? Who can

(18:04):
I send a text message? Or if you're the one
in need, I pray you get the call. I pray
someone sends you something that you need. But even if
they don't, I'm telling you right now that you are
on my mind that the Holy Spirit said do a
segment about praying for somebody, because somebody needs to know
that people are still praying. You are not out here
by yourself. You are not in this thing alone. If

(18:26):
he said he'll never leave you for nor for sake you,
He'll never leave you for nor for sake you. But
guess what God uses people. He uses people. So don't
ignore the call, don't say nah, don't come over. Let
them come over and sit with you and just laugh
and just be there for a moment. Get in a
different environment, change your mindset, allow the person who wants
to love on you to actually love on you. In

(18:46):
the meantime, I'll be praying, praying, that you come through,
praying that you come out, praying that you make it over,
praying that you walk in victory, praying that you heal,
praying that you have everything that you need. Even before
you get the stuff, I pray that your heart and
mind is all right. Sometimes you get the stuff and
your heart and mind still ain't right, and so you
can't feel the goodness in this thing.

Speaker 8 (19:04):
They're supposed to be good.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
So I'm praying that your heart and mind is okay,
that God encourage your soul. Today we say joy living,
But what does that mean? It means to walk in
the joy of the Lord. This thing that no one
can take from you, but no one can give it
to you. Because this joy that I have, the world
didn't give it and the world can't take it away.
All right, That is my erchism for the day. I
love you, and I mean it felt more like a

(19:26):
joy living. But I hope you understand I'm praying for you.
I really really am. I want you to win. I
want you to walk in victory. I want you to
be more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ that loves you,
and he really does. Whether you're in your car, I
don't know if you had to pull over what you're doing.
You listening at work, you're listening on the app, wherever
you're listening.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
In the world.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
We are praying for you for your victory, praying for
you to win, praying for you to have everything that
you need.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
That God has for you. All right, but I want
you to do your part.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
Okay, don't quit, don't give up, don't throw in the towel,
don't ask what you're doing this for. I'm telling you
what you're doing this for. You're doing it for souls.
You're doing it for victory. You're doing it because God
love you do You're doing it because you were called.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
To do it.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
All right, Now, go out there and make make the
world different, make the world better.

Speaker 8 (20:11):
It's in you. You can do it. It's get that
morning's y'all.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
More laughing inspiration all the way with Erica Campbell.

Speaker 17 (20:31):
If you're listening to Get Up, let the church say Amen.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
The time for joys and concerns.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
Well saying to the Most High God, we are coming

Elder chirl Ah huh, because he brought me from a

been dead sleeping in the grain.

Speaker 2 (21:27):

Speaker 2 (21:32):

spirit this more?

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Let him use your metal musal.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
Speaking of metal musical.

Speaker 6 (21:45):
On the get up pole, we talked about what's our
routine in the morning and what do we do to
get our day started. Erica said, well, I get up
and I do lunges and squats. Well, I say, I'm
gonna do lunges and squads too. I look like a
whole fool.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
So I did my record. Lord, thank you for waking
me up. Thanks for the wake up.

Speaker 6 (22:09):
I did that, and I said, okay, before I even
go to the bathroom or anything, lifto and let me
record it so y'all can go to get up Erica
dot com and see me looking like an idiot my
first day in the morning.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
So I go to do the squad first, get stuck.

Speaker 6 (22:24):
I get stuck in the squad now trying to pull
myself up on the bed. I'm the squad and I said, okay,
that's fine, that's fine. I'll let that slide. Now, let
me do the let me do the lunch. I lunged
myself into the walk.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
It's all on video, but y'all can see it.

Speaker 6 (22:42):
So Eric, I just want to thank you for having
the most horrible routine. Do not do what I mean,
listen to what she said, but don't do what you
do she'd be doing.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
I can give me some jampoine real quih ir knees ready, Chris. Now,
I know if somebody in the car right now saying, wait, grip,
you really did that?

Speaker 6 (23:03):
I did, I know you get saying all right, somebody
else saying yeah, lungeones and squat is a lot in
the morning, so you get saying you all right.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
But if you like me, and you know I ain't
ever doing no luncheon watch in the morning. Garrick Camble
and come on ludgeons.

Speaker 18 (23:28):
I ain't doing no lunch luncheon.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
I can't handle too too. I was crazy.

Speaker 6 (23:40):
You win on the uh I rode out on the forty.

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Grib How did you man the first? Why? Because my
legs was like now, slow down, low down? Why is winning?

Speaker 6 (23:51):
Let's walk to Let's pee first before you start dropping
it like it's hot.

Speaker 4 (23:56):
First.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
My dogs was looking at I'd be like man.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
Living in Atlanta.

Speaker 8 (24:06):
I've been dropping it like us hot.

Speaker 4 (24:07):
In the morning, y'all stick a man. We got mar
the Whites.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
Get Up Morning.

Speaker 17 (24:20):
You're listening to Get Up, Good.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
Morning, Good morning.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
It's get up Morning's Merry Christmas, everybody.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
I hope your day is off to an amazing start. Listen.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
Coming up eleven minutes after the hour, we will talk
to Pastor Donnie mcclerky in about his new single also
Wake Up and Win with Doctor Willie Jolly his message
today the Twelve Days of Christmas Day ten music from Adiya.

Speaker 4 (24:45):
Tai, Trippitt and Tamala Man.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
Here's Tasha Cobb's Leonard with Church from Get Up Mornings, Get.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
Up Morning, Hello, Okay.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
Joining us today is one of the most recognized voices
in gospel for over three decades, multi award winning artist
friend and I'm just so honored.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
I love him so much. Ladies and gentlemen. Pastor Donnie
McClurkin is with us. Hi faster, Johnny, don't.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
Know, how are you? I'm good, I'm good.

Speaker 4 (25:14):
I'm so glad to have you back on the show.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
You got a brand new song and it's called Better
after While. Why don't you introduce it and then we'll
come back and talk more about it.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
Well, it's a song that's in line.

Speaker 10 (25:26):
With all of the different ordeals that are going on
here in America and around the world, and it's just
a remind people that we've been through hard times before
and God is always in control, and no matter how
the struggle is, it's gonna get better after While.

Speaker 4 (25:45):
Here it is better after a While. No music from
Pastor Donnie McClerkin.

Speaker 8 (25:48):
I'll get up one head.

Speaker 4 (25:53):
That's my favorite.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
Pastor Donnie McClerkin with his latest single, Better after While.
Pastor Donnie, we have loved your music for years, but
it has been ten years since your last solo record.

Speaker 4 (26:05):
What let you know that this is the right time
for the song?

Speaker 10 (26:07):
Well, because it's time to hang the hat up, It's
time to turn it in and to sit back and
say we've accomplished what God wanted and this is the
final project. So you know, through prayer and through real
consideration of bittersweet feelings, this whole thing came about.

Speaker 8 (26:30):
You know, my story with the song Stand.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
It was a catalyst for my faith growing and believing
that God would allow my dreams to come through my
dreams to sing and shares music with the world. But
I was listening to it while I was in a
broken down nineteen ninety Toyota Tursell and my lunch for
the day was an egg and I was in hair
school and I listened to Stand.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
And it made me emotional.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
What has been the story that has blessed you the
most as people share their life stories with you and
what your music has done.

Speaker 10 (26:57):
You'd eighteen and suicidal, and his mother contacted us and
let us know that you know this is going on,
and that the songs that she played for him brought
him to a point of lucidity where he didn't take
his life. You know, but stuff like that gets me
write in my heart, because when I'm doing it, I

(27:17):
don't expect that kind of result.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
I just do it to the glory of God, Uncle Donnie.

Speaker 6 (27:22):
I just think it's remarkable that you are hanging it up,
that you've done everything that God asked you to do
and you're going to do something else. I absolutely love
that the athlete. Athletes don't even know how to do that.
How did you come up with that decision?

Speaker 2 (27:41):
The Bible says helped me number my days.

Speaker 10 (27:44):
When the Lord tells you, that's it, that's it, and.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
Anything that you do past that point.

Speaker 10 (27:51):
Will be Donnie, and his thing is go ahead and
do because I'm.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Not going to be there, But you go ahead and
do that you want to.

Speaker 10 (27:57):
And we've had enough of that. We've had enough of
people just putting up stuff because it's industry and not
because it's ministry.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
It was a matter of the Lord telling me name
this project finally.

Speaker 10 (28:11):
Donnie mccluck. And it was really crazy because as soon
as we finished recording it, I had a massive heart
attack and I'm saying, Lord, it's what you meant by fact.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
No, No, that's not funny, sir, all that you've gone
through and on the other side, but what do you
want this project to say about your musical journey.

Speaker 10 (28:36):
I wanted to be the finality. I wanted to be
the crown on the top of the whole entire music
ministry that I've had bus here since ninety seven. I
want to be able to walk away saying, God, I
can hear you say well done.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
And this Let this remain as a monument to you.

Speaker 10 (28:58):
This is my Ebenezer. This is where I set up
my monument to God and say here that too, has
the Lord help me and brought me to this point.
So now I can sit back and finish my assignment
before I go home.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
Y'all know, we got to get this record, right. Y'all
know we have to get this whole thing, but download
better after a while. Right now, matter of fact, you
all refresh and just listen to Donni mclarkin all day long,
streaming all day long, and let it bless and encourage
your soul.

Speaker 4 (29:27):
I just I can't tell you enough how much I
love you.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Thank you so much for your words of one, wisdom,
your mentorship, your friendship over the years.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
I love every one of you old even griff.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
Wow is also I love it so much.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for donniecause Clarkin is.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
Get Up Mornings.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
We love you so much, Sir god Bles.

Speaker 17 (30:01):
If you're listening to get Up with Erica Kimbo, it's
trying to wake up and win. With Doctor Willie Jolly.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
It's another great day.

Speaker 19 (30:17):
This is doctor Willy Jolly, author of the book A
set Back as a set Up for a Comeback and
host of the Willy Jolly Wealthy Ways podcast. As we
celebrate this wonderful time of the year, I have a
special twelve Days of Christmas program to help you and
your family to win more each and every day. On
the tenth day of Christmas, I want to share the
gift of encouragement. Novelist Edith Wharton said there are two
ways to spread the light. You can be the candle,

(30:40):
or you can be the mirror that reflects it.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
This Christmas, spread the light of encouragement.

Speaker 19 (30:46):
Encourage others to pursue their dreams, to go back to
school or to start a business. Most people go to
bed hungry, not for food, but rather for a word
of encouragement. Encouragement is like perfume, so when you give
it to others, you cannot help it. Get a little
bit on yourself. This Christmas, give the gift of encouragement.
You'll be glad you did. This is doctor Willie Jolly.

(31:07):
Go to win with Willi dot com. Win with Willy
dot Com for resources to help you and your family
to win more. And remember to make the most of
each in every minute because your best is still yet
to come.

Speaker 4 (31:17):
Merry Christmas.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
It's good at mornings, y'all. I'm Erica Campbell and we
are enjoying the entire team. It's time for waffles and tea.
We're hanging out so you can get to know us.
I know you hear me all the time, but today
you get to hear from more of the team.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
How's everybody doing this?

Speaker 10 (31:32):
More?

Speaker 4 (31:33):
Tang Christmas week is best week ever? Very nice. This
is a good restaurant, Theos, thanks for choosing this one.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
This is good.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
Well that's what I do.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
What I do.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
Venos. Are you still serving a ministry at your church?

Speaker 3 (31:54):
I know you told me you were either teaching Bible
study or Sunday School or something like that, right church?

Speaker 20 (32:00):
And well, when I have to work on Sundays now,
so I have to get all my church from the
get up church all week and then uh, but when
I when I am at church. I am one of
the associated Associate ministers, and I teach Sunday school. What
I teach Sunday? So I taught Sunday School and sometimes

(32:21):
Bible study on Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (32:23):
No, that's right, go a head, Shani. What church should
you go to?

Speaker 5 (32:28):
Well, I've been going to Wise Fisherman Baptist Church. I'm
still a member of Concord because that's where I grew up.
But I started Concord and it's a small church that
I do some work with them, and they recently lost
their pastor, so everybody's just trying to preacher.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
You have their preacher, Shani. No, probably yeah, media, but
on okay, just the day, big author and pastor what's
going on.

Speaker 5 (33:05):
Occasionally they do have me speak though, but it's usually
about depression and suicide because I'm so open with speaking
about my experience with that.

Speaker 8 (33:12):
So oh wow, yeah, that's good.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
That's good. Come on, say look at the whole church.

Speaker 8 (33:17):
You get up church.

Speaker 4 (33:18):
We really do love Jesus. We lightly when we off air,
we love you too.

Speaker 6 (33:22):
Oh at the restaurant, yeah, absolutely, no days off, no
days off gri Yes.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
You paid some years ago for those who knew did
to get up church and paid sixty seven thirty one
to become a minister. You got your license so you
could marry somebody, right, but you can marry and bury him.

Speaker 10 (33:41):
Right?

Speaker 4 (33:41):
Did you married this year? You didn't marry this year?

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Not this year? Last year?

Speaker 4 (33:48):
Join the crew. He took a respite this year. Well
this was my.

Speaker 6 (33:54):
They take this was my sabbatical year. Okay, got it
from me, and then next year I'll pick back up.

Speaker 4 (34:01):
So do you have to renew? You have to pay
more to you? Everybody? I hate you so much at
this restaurant. See what you're doing.

Speaker 6 (34:09):
It's not funny, that's it. I see what you're doing. Man,
I'm stopping. Oh gosh, I love.

Speaker 4 (34:20):
To get up touch and we know you do too.
Y'all stick around.

Speaker 3 (34:23):
We got more on the way from Minister Grift sixty
seven thirty one.

Speaker 17 (34:37):
If you're listening to get up all right.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
We are back with the waffles and the tea and
the whatnot in and such and such and.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
Here with the team hate team, everybody, good.

Speaker 6 (34:46):
Everybody, every stuff, having these answering all these questions.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
What we're eating. That's what you do is talk. You talked.
We made you put your phone down. That's what we did.

Speaker 6 (34:57):
Yet me this one me what?

Speaker 3 (35:03):
Okay, I just had to respond to someone who's making
a request. Okay, you want me to not work walking work?

Speaker 4 (35:10):
This is work too, work and work, and you gotta
be working, working, day or night. I'm Michael Johnson in ye.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
All right, y'all, what is something you would tell your
younger self, Sheryl, you go first.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
Wow, that you can do it all. You can do
it all.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
I had big dreams. I did a lot of great things.
I joined the club after club, I know, we did
a high school thing, and y'all was like, you did
all that in high school?

Speaker 4 (35:36):
I did.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
I was cheerleading, I was Miss Senior. I worked full
I worked at the Woodies, I went to Vaccasional. I
did a lot of things because I felt like I
wanted more than what we had in our in the city, right.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
And so I would tell my younger self you can
do it all.

Speaker 5 (35:54):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
What about your group?

Speaker 6 (35:56):
I would tell my younger self that it's gonna be
a lot of challenging times.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
In your life, but you will make it through.

Speaker 6 (36:07):
On the other side, you'll never even think about those things.

Speaker 10 (36:13):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
Venus, what about you, what would you tell your younger self.

Speaker 20 (36:16):
Well, I would tell my younger self to first leading
women alone.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
That's one and the other thing.

Speaker 20 (36:26):
The other thing I would tell myself is stick you
stick to your guns and go to seminary, Like you
want to go.

Speaker 4 (36:33):
Wow, that's not too late, you still go now.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Well, I let my parents talk me out of it.

Speaker 20 (36:38):
I was like, yeah, you know, maybe I should go
seminary and they're like, we ain't doing that.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
That's all he's in.

Speaker 20 (36:44):
And it's not that they weren't Christian people, you know,
we were a Christian family.

Speaker 1 (36:49):
But she's like, no, we're not doing that.

Speaker 20 (36:51):
You're gonna go over here to Buffalo and you're gonna
go to sunny a Buffalo and we're gonna do that.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
Wow, what about you, Shannie. Oh.

Speaker 5 (36:58):
I would tell my younger that you're not forgotten and
you are a masterpiece.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
Wow, that's beautiful.

Speaker 3 (37:08):
Well, I would tell my younger self, you're not going
to be poor forever.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
I thought that I would have to manage not having
much my whole life. I prepared to have a small house.
I told myself I could just eat a regular car.
Like I was preparing myself because everybody that I saw
around me couldn't. Nobody didn't have anybody that was, you know,
doing well financially.

Speaker 8 (37:31):
Everything that they did was scraping.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
It was always discount this and cheat that, and this
is on sale, and this free this and free that.
Like I did not know how to go in a
store and even go to the highest section. Like even
when I was making money, I still had to wrap
my mind around.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
Like Erica, you can afford it.

Speaker 8 (37:48):
It's okay, you know. And so.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
Yeah, I would tell myself, you're not going to be
poor forever, so get rid of the poor mentality. Prepare
for the wealth, Prepare for the riches. I would tell
that guy A good message right there.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
Well, we're all telling our stuff. Feeling emotional.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Good ya, hope you are enjoying getting to know more
about our team.

Speaker 8 (38:12):
These are the people that help us do what we do.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
You may hear Erica Campbell all the time, but it
is for sure Shane and Venos and Cheryl and Griffin
so many other people that help get up mornings get
out to the world. And I thank you so so much.
Y'all keep listening. We got more great gospel music for you.
I'll get up mornings.

Speaker 17 (38:36):
If you're listening to get up.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
Er Good morning, good people, Let's get up mornings. I'm
Erica Campbell. It is December twenty third, almost Christmas. Merry Christmas. Everybody,
stay in a good spirit. Don't let nobody pull you
out of.

Speaker 6 (38:52):
Your Jesus Is griff right here, right, a little bit
out of my Jesus.

Speaker 8 (38:57):
Let me let me stay in that joyful way. You
know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Listen.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
Coming up eleven minutes after the hour, I'll have a
love talk show, will have the trending topics, and Shanni
will have a quick sports minute. Hey do people cook
as big on Christmas as they do on Thanksgiving?

Speaker 4 (39:12):
I do?

Speaker 2 (39:13):
You do? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (39:14):
Because everybody comes to my house for Christmas? Yeah I do.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
I'm not mad man? Why my Why am I?

Speaker 6 (39:25):
My son married a real masklife like and she about
to put me on the game.

Speaker 4 (39:30):
She's about to well.

Speaker 3 (39:32):
What if she you know what if she will pray
for your tacos.

Speaker 8 (39:36):
Let's get to this, good guy.

Speaker 4 (39:37):
Why she ain't volunteered nothing?

Speaker 8 (39:39):
Rights with jingle bells?

Speaker 4 (39:43):
While we figure out our Mexican life over here, let's talk.

Speaker 1 (39:47):
About love for God.

Speaker 4 (39:49):
So love the world, love talk.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Yes, it is time for the love talk of the day.
And uh, listen, I'm not blind and I got this.

Speaker 8 (40:00):
Sometimes I be knowing stuff.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
Man, When you.

Speaker 3 (40:04):
See people who say they're in love and you don't
see no love in their face, it is a sign.
When you see people who say that they're in love,
they don't smile, they don't laugh. Ain't nobody grabbing nobody's hands.
Something is going on. It does not mean cheating, I'm
not saying that, but definitely there is a disconnect. Definitely

(40:25):
there's some a lack of consideration that's happening. There is
a communication breakdown. There is no special moments. You could
just feel it the same way when people are newly
in love and they just giggling all the time and
everything is funny. Everything that says funny. It don't matter
what they say. Listen, I bet le Nikka laughed at

(40:46):
everything Grif said when they first got together. He was
the funniest person she had met in life. You know,
you can see when people like each other and you
can see when they don't. And so my prayer is
for those of you that have been struggling and we
can see that you don't. I'm praying for you. I'm
praying that you have the hard conversation. I'm praying that
there'd be consideration in that conversation. I pray that you

(41:08):
have the courage to pray for one another. I pray
that you focus on the problem and not the result.
Focus on how you got where you are, not just
where you are, because if you just worry about where
you are, you'll miss what the real problem is. My
prayer is that you pay so much attention to one
another that you recognize when it starts turning. You know,

(41:32):
when it starts going in the wrong direction, when you
start saying I don't care in your mind, when you
start saying it don't matter anyway in your mind. When
you start those things, and the conversations is in your mind,
they come out through your pores, whether you want them
to or not.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
You can see it.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
You can see it, and you can see it in
restaurants when people are sitting and I go, oh, they
don't they don't like each other at all.

Speaker 8 (41:51):
You can see it on planes.

Speaker 3 (41:52):
You can see when I was walking behind a couple
in the airport last night. I don't know what was wrong.
She ain't like him at all. He kept turning, look
and trying to talk. I don't know what the conversation was,
but the body language was loud. There was irritation and
annoyance everywhere. If you say you love, I pray that
there'll be enough love between you to start the healing conversation,

(42:13):
start the turnaround conversation, start the let's fix it conversation,
start the let's fall back in love conversation.

Speaker 8 (42:19):
I pray that you have the strength and the courage
to do it.

Speaker 3 (42:22):
I pray that you have people around you to recognize
and are praying before you even know to pray. Because
love matters, your relationship matters. I don't care how long
you've been together. I don't care how long you've been
irritated with one another, and you're just flowing in function
and you just there because you don't feel like going on.
Whatebodia is cheaper to keep for all of that foolishness,
so you stay and stay frustrated and irritated. I pray

(42:44):
that you have the courage to fight for the love
that brings joy and bring peace, and bring comfort and
bring confidence. I pray that you have the language for
one another to communicate your heart and not your hurt Okay,
that's my love talk of to day. I love you
and I mean it all right, guys, you know what
it is? Trending topics and a quick sports minute are
up next to him.

Speaker 4 (43:02):
Get up mornings.

Speaker 1 (43:12):
If you're listening to Get Up Camp, Get up. Find
out what everybody's talking about right now.

Speaker 4 (43:20):
Take it over the web.

Speaker 2 (43:22):
What is it?

Speaker 1 (43:22):
It's trending topics up to the minute.

Speaker 4 (43:25):
Here's what's trending.

Speaker 3 (43:26):
The suspect in the Brown University mass shooting was found
dead over the weekend, two days after taking his own life,
according to a medical examiner. A forty eight year old
former Brown University student and Portuguese national was found at
a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire and an affidavit.
Investigators said a campus custodian observations and an anonymous Reddit

(43:49):
post helped narrow down the search for the suspect. He
was sophisticated in hiding his tracks and is believed to
have used an untraceable phone and avoided credit cards and
his own name. Nerve Valente was also responsible for the
killing of an MIT professor days after the Brown University attack.
Prosecutor said he attended the same academic program as the

(44:12):
professor in Portugal. Between nineteen ninety five and two thousand,
the US will pause its Diversity Visa Lottery program. Homeland
Securities Secretary Christy Nome added that Nerve Valente into the
country via the program. In twenty seventeen, it was granted
a green card. And other news, Well, I love what
Quintu Brunson is doing. Quinta Brunson is ending the year

(44:35):
on a high note. The Avid Elementary creator is giving
back to her hometown of Philadelphia with a newly announced
fund for field trips. The Quintu Brunson Field Trip Fund
launched early December and is dedicated to getting rid of
cost barriers the field trips and out of classroom experiences
for over one hundred and seventeen thousand students and the

(44:57):
city's traditional district run public SKIPE schools.

Speaker 4 (45:00):
She said field trips.

Speaker 3 (45:01):
Were some of the most memorable parts of her own
education growing up in Philadelphia mine too in DC. She said,
Going somewhere new shows you that the world is bigger,
more exciting than you believe, and it can shape what
you come to see and achieve. Her writing, producing and
acting and Abbott Elementary continues to inspire on and off
the screen. The TV show inspired by her favorite sixth

(45:24):
grade teacher, and it continues to be like a love
letter to teachers and kids in the city. In real life,
Brunson has continued giving back to her hometown, and Philadelphia
Mayor Cherrelle Parker even honored Brunson with a key to
the city in May. I love that, Quinta. And in
other news, well, we only have a few more days
to get indulged in these holiday movies, right, and we

(45:47):

Speaker 5 (46:59):

regular season, that is, so he's gonna lose half a
million dollars there, and if the suspension stands, he can
lose over forty five million dollars in guaranteed money. Hey, y'all, fans,
y'all need to tone that down.

thank you for your hand of protection that goes before us.
Cover our families, our churches, our children, our marriages, our ministries. Lord,

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
