Speaker 2 (00:03):
Want rovers just follow my mouse from News Talk eleven
ten and ninety nine three double bet.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
This isn't we have a four? Who has Andrea Giant?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
This is good Morning Beatty with bo Thompson and Beth Trout.
Speaker 4 (00:17):
But thank you Amy High School Band for that eloquence selection.
Speaker 5 (00:37):
Game Home and Soul to you girl, you gave you
love you.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Good morning.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
So here's what I remember about this song. If you
listen closely, their voices are a bit higher than the
rest of the songs of that particular year. Because the
new kids on the block blew up and then they
went back and started taking songs from their first album
that nobody listened to. This is like late eighties, and
(01:53):
so this song was from their very very first album
and they were all like half of the guys had not.
Speaker 6 (02:00):
I about to say.
Speaker 7 (02:01):
So here, what you're telling us is that this is
pre puberty, and then puberty happened.
Speaker 6 (02:06):
This was when Trayvon Merrick punched them.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah, and Boomer will be quick to say this was
a song made popular by the Delphonics. This was a remake,
of course the Delphonics. But this, of course the new
kids on the block, and.
Speaker 7 (02:24):
I would like to apologize. I have no clue where
this came from, except for the fact that I'm a
tad bit under the weather and took cold medicine before
I went to bed last night.
Speaker 8 (02:33):
You always have the funkiest songs around holidays that have
nothing to do with the actual holidays.
Speaker 7 (02:38):
That's actually so true.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Maybe in a few weeks she'll have Funky Funky Christmas.
Speaker 7 (02:43):
I hope I have the Christmas in Harlem or whatever
the one is that the Hollis Hollis thank you that
the Beatless.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Queens Well, And I'll never forget the first year we
were together doing this show, we had a contest and
the guy actually won tickets from us because he knew
the song Funky Funky Christmas.
Speaker 7 (03:01):
He was not the Beastie Boys.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Oh did she say Beastie Boys? I could have told
you that. I just wasn't listening to you.
Speaker 6 (03:13):
I'm glad I said something.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Thank you, Steve.
Speaker 6 (03:20):
I like how he simultaneously slammed you in front of himself.
We're doing the right answer, man.
Speaker 8 (03:28):
Hey, welcome back, Jim, Wow, Bobby and Daddy are fighting again?
Speaker 6 (03:35):
Or awkward to the Thanksgiving table?
Speaker 7 (03:37):
I know, what are we going to talk about?
Speaker 8 (03:39):
Well, I do know from Bernie's textas say, there was
some talk about our fantasy football league yesterday and the
fact you beat me by by half a.
Speaker 6 (03:45):
Yard or whatever. What is what is point one? Is
that like a yard?
Speaker 8 (03:49):
Like a tenth of like like the last road to
Rico Dowdle was like the winning play.
Speaker 7 (03:53):
Yeah, it's like where his foot was?
Speaker 8 (03:55):
It's this no idea because I'm working. Well, that was like,
I mean, has that ever happened? Like, was it one
twenty eight point five to one.
Speaker 6 (04:03):
Twenty eight point four?
Speaker 7 (04:04):
It's definitely never happened to me.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Well, I've seen it happen in other leagues I've played in.
But when I was sort of watching this all play
out on Sunday, I thought, okay, well, Beth has a
shot in the dark here, She's got two Panthers on
Monday night. And we made so much you know, fun
of me, fun of about you having all the Panthers.
And then it turned out, you know, Rico daldele and
and Teta Rohack.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
Had that touchdown.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
But then then then of course after the game, you
would have thought that the Panthers did not do enough
for Beth to win, and then I looked at you know,
at the end of the game that night, Oh my gosh,
you gotta be kidding me.
Speaker 7 (04:41):
And they didn't. They were hoping that I wouldn't check
the app so I could find out about it live
on the air. But I happened to check the book
and I did. I happened to check the app before
the show, and then I just to let the audience
know that I screenshot at the victory and I texted
to Jim when I thought it was appropriate like that
you would be awake along with a gift of Kristin
Wigg with the giant forehead and the baby hands blow
(05:02):
out a kiss, which.
Speaker 8 (05:03):
I said, how is this not your logo that's the
most the best one? Is that one in the triangle
or whatever?
Speaker 7 (05:10):
She said, Yeah, Kristen Wigs the triangle, lady, it's the
triangle lady.
Speaker 6 (05:14):
I mean, you cannot have a closer.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
Game than one twenty eight point five four to one,
twenty eight point four to two.
Speaker 8 (05:21):
I mean that's got to be like a yard is
probably like a point, like one yard, right, And of
all the guys, they got the all the players that
we have with ten players or whatever they want.
Speaker 7 (05:30):
It could have literally just been the size of tetaro
at McMillan's feet, like his big toe was a little
farther than the toe of your guys.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
You're exactly right. That's that's how it is when you
play you know, when you when you play points. You
know what am I trying to say?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
A game?
Speaker 4 (05:45):
PPR PPR? Yes for anything Presburger.
Speaker 6 (05:48):
Seption, Yes, not the detract from it. But my team
not good.
Speaker 8 (05:50):
I lost like four in a row. I think now
everyone has beaten me. If I'm five and seven, I
think probably everybody's beaten.
Speaker 7 (05:56):
I'm not in last place anymore. No, that's what's the
most exciting.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Mark win or Mark you lost?
Speaker 6 (06:02):
Because Mark not.
Speaker 9 (06:03):
This No, I didn't care either.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
Well, this week will be fun because it's it's Beth
versus me. It's a Megabeth and Jason's basement.
Speaker 8 (06:10):
That's why most the early gauntlet at you this week.
That's why the trash talk trash.
Speaker 10 (06:14):
Talking as I'm not listening to you. That's like the
biggest job I'm not listening to. Here's another choice matchup.
Mark's Monstrous team will play the Wainiac this week.
Speaker 6 (06:25):
Oh do I want to play Mark. Let's all play.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
We're all playing.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
I need a game against Mark to bounce back.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
We could all play Mark and still Mark would lose.
Speaker 7 (06:35):
Well, I don't know. I think at the beginning he
was winning there for a while.
Speaker 8 (06:38):
No, I think he'd be because at first a light
of us said and that nobody was injured.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
It's got like five people. What I meant to say
is we would if we all did that, that'd be
probably the one time that Mark would win a good point.
All right, I work my way around to good points sometimes.
Six fourteen on WBT.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
I wasn't listening.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Hey, Boomer, I know you probably didn't hear the beginning
of this. When I say, didn't I blow your mind?
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Delphonic?
Speaker 4 (07:02):
There it is, Yeah, you were right, delphonics you called it.
Of course Beth. Beth immediately thinks of the new kids
on the block.
Speaker 7 (07:09):
They were my childhood crush. And I'm not gonna lie Boomer.
I've been to multiple concerts as an adult.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Hey, go ahead, why not.
Speaker 7 (07:16):
That's it?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Good morning, he fellow kids.
Speaker 7 (07:23):
Somebody has to go to those things.
Speaker 6 (07:26):
An I wish you could have seen the del Phonics
in their day.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
She used to busy watching Joey McIntire.
Speaker 7 (07:32):
Oh, y'all, I saw them for the first time in
sixth grade at the new Coliseum. I wore red suspenders.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Oh nice, you still have them?
Speaker 7 (07:43):
No, the new kids.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
At the new Caluseu.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
All right, Boomer, I love it.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Man.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
Well, I'm sorry I don't have the delphonics for you.
But I don't control Beth's head.
Speaker 7 (07:54):
So sorry. I don't even think I knew about the
delphonics version.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Gotta put on your bail body and crushed for.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
Lord that I can do that.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
I can rock some valure stack feels. What is that dolphins?
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Yeah, we made that water bag.
Speaker 11 (08:08):
Go.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
This is Good Morning BET.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
News Talk eleven ten nine to nine three WBT, the
day before Turkey Day. It is Wednesday, November twenty sixth.
Time to welcome in our longtime cybersecurity expert, the founder
of Fortless Solutions. She was in studio with us on Monday.
And you know what, a trooper still comes on in
a regular Wednesday spot, and truth be told, if she's
(08:36):
not in her Wednesday spot, then people start wondering what's
going on. What's going on with Beth and bo They're
not doing their their usual thing and so it's like clockwork,
she's here and we always appreciate that. So happy to
talk to you for the second time this week.
Speaker 12 (08:49):
Absolutely, it's great to be with you. And Happy Thanksgiving Eve.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Happy Thanksgiving Eve to you. Now we've said this many
times with you and talking about the shopping season. We
all know that Black Friday is not just a day anymore.
Black Friday, it's a way of life this time of year.
These stores online and brick and mortar start the sales
earlier and they extend longer. But you, this has always
been a focus when we talk to you about people
(09:17):
being vigilant when they go into shopping mode this time
of year. And like we were talking about on Monday,
even though Black Friday is not just one day, the
scam artists do sort of descend upon people right about now,
and they know that you're in that mode, so they
know that you're susceptible. The thing, So, what is on
your radar here in twenty twenty five as we go
into this Black Friday season in the shopping holiday season.
Speaker 12 (09:40):
Yeah, so a couple of things. Thanks for bringing that up, though,
a couple of things. One, you don't have to go
it alone. So if you kind of want a little
shopping helper saying you that's a red flag. That's a problem.
There's actually some free websites that people can use. One
of my personal favorites that I use for almost everything
is trust Pilot. They'll tell you about fake and unreliable merchants.
(10:05):
Scam Advisor is great. They have trust scores. They tell
you a little bit about, hey, this domain name is
only a couple days old. That's usually a red flag.
Could be a new business, but more than likely it's
probably not not legit. There's also you rl void that
will also scan the website against different security databases, so
(10:28):
that can be a great place to start. The other
thing is remember if it sounds too good to be true,
it probably is really Pay attention to strange or misspelled URLs.
And if the merchant says things like, oh we take
zell or Vemo only, red flag, cash apps only, red
(10:48):
flag wire transfers only, or gift cards only, red flag
whenever possible, please and bo this is for you, Please
use your credit card.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
Why would you say that?
Speaker 7 (11:00):
Glad she remembered that always use your credit card, not
your debit card, especially online. Now, speaking of information that
is online. The FBI on their x account. Just as
a reminder that scammers are out there, they released a
PSA on cyber criminals using phishing schemes to take over
people's bank accounts.
Speaker 11 (11:20):
Yeah, so they.
Speaker 12 (11:21):
Are impersonating customer support and tech support at the banks,
at the credit unions, and they're tricking really smart people
into providing their login credentials or that little code that
they send you. They're creating phishing websites that look like
your favorite bank, your favorite credit union, even payroll providers.
(11:46):
So take a look at the FBI's PSA on this. Again,
from a red flag perspective, here's something I want everybody
to know. Your bank. I know this because I worked
in banking. Your bank will never email you or text
you tell you to click on a link and log
in from that link. That is a red flag. Also,
(12:07):
their their department will not call you and say, hey,
I'm going to send you a code, can you tell
it to me over the phone. That is another red flag.
Hang up, Go to a brick and mortar branch if
you don't have one available to you, go to the
legitimate web page on your own by typing it in
yourself and look for the customer support number.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
You know, it's become so sophisticated now the way they
track you, because I think many of us can identify
with this. You're scrolling through social media and you see something,
Oh that's that's like for example, the other day there
was like this this magnet that you can buy that
has an MP three chip implanted in it, so you
(12:48):
can you can you can download a picture of you
and your significant other of your friend and upload it
into this app, and then it'll make a magnet for you,
and you can choose your favorite song and then you
can stick it on your fen and play the little
play the music. And it sounds like a bit involved,
but really a click on a picture, a click on
a song. But what I noticed is because once I
(13:10):
clicked on it, now like every time I scroll, it's
say it's offering me, Hey remember this, remember this?
Speaker 2 (13:14):
You like this?
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Do you want this? But what I noticed is the
title of the company changes almost every time. Oh, and
I'm thinking that's not good.
Speaker 12 (13:25):
Yeah, that's a red flag. So I would tell people
if they're looking at that magnet with the music, it
might get old quick.
Speaker 13 (13:32):
I don't know, But if you're.
Speaker 12 (13:34):
Really thinking you want it, I would go to those
websites that I mentioned, you know, Trust Pilot, scam Advisor,
URL Void, and run those company names and those domain
names through that website if all else fails, if you're
not sure, A lot of times, what I'll do is
I'll take the product name, the website, the company name,
I'll type it into my favorite search engines and then
(13:56):
I'll put comma, is this a scam? And a lot
of times the search results that come back will tell
you everything you need to know.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
You know, listeners may wonder you're the expert on all
of this stuff, and we always ask you what to
do and what not to do. Are you much of
an online shopper, Teresa.
Speaker 12 (14:15):
Oh, that is a great question. Yes, but I go
to the shopping sites themselves. So I actually sit down
and do an old school list, so I, you know,
kind of interview, interrogate I don't know, and investigate my family's
wants to need and I do an old school list
that I handwrite, and then I sit down and I
(14:36):
do my research looking for prices, and I do a
combination of ordering things online and going in person and
picking it up. There's just you cannot replace going in person,
saying hello to somebody at the cash register, and just
you know, all the seals and the smells and the
seeing people. There's just something about it that's really special
(14:57):
to me.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Well, and on the flip side, we all know that
online shopping has made it possible to get things you
wouldn't necessarily be able to get because it'd be halfway
across the country and you can't travel everywhere. But as long,
what I was trying to get at is you do
it just like anybody else does, but you make sure
you do it in a safe fashion. And that's those
safe tools are things that you've told us year after years.
(15:18):
So we will launch into the shopping season with vigilance,
and you can always follow Teresa on x and get
more tips and ask questions at Tracker Payton. We hope
you and your family have a great holiday, or at
least the first of many holidays.
Speaker 13 (15:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (15:36):
Absolutely, I mean best of Steve, Bernie, everybody at WVT.
I love you, I'm praying for you. I want you
to have a happy Thanksgiving. I plan to have a great,
happy Thanksgiving with my family and everybody. Be safe out there.
Speaker 14 (15:52):
And there's your final twenty to nine and Juan Jennings
is getting into it with somebody at the end of
everybody kind of shaking hands.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
Both offensive tackles are in.
Speaker 15 (16:11):
There, and that.
Speaker 14 (16:12):
Is Trayvon Merrit who gets that shot to the face
from Juwan Jennings before these two teams leave the field. Yeah,
obviously there's something that happened during the ballgame or throughout
the course of.
Speaker 9 (16:28):
The game that Juwan Jennings has taken exception with Travon Merrit.
Speaker 14 (16:33):
See if any punishment is handed out by the NFL
when they examined that tape. I guess it was Merrick
who delivered the punch, and then that's why Juwan Jennings
was upset and went after Merrik before the two teams left.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Troy Aigman and Joe Bugg from Monday Night Football a
couple of nights ago, and so the NFL issues of
one game suspension to Carolina Panthers safety at Trayvon Merrick
for what we call a low blow.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
Got the money in the old Candlestick Park.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
That's exactly right, Jim Zoki.
Speaker 15 (17:09):
With like a club.
Speaker 8 (17:10):
They were showing it in slow motion over and over again,
like the trade by Merrick's got like this padded hand
for like an injury or whatever. And you see it
going right into the below the belt.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
Like a cast like a cast on. I know that,
I know that, or the sun don't shine. Yeah, we
loved it, loved it. If he was miked up the voice,
the octave would have changed.
Speaker 7 (17:34):
But don't you wear a little protector there? Oh, I
thought football players would would naturally wear.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
If he was wearing one.
Speaker 8 (17:43):
It didn't work, it was, but it was a reaction.
They mentioned that he Merrick got hit in the face.
Speaker 6 (17:49):
Or whatever, So is that what they call it now?
Speaker 7 (17:51):
A face?
Speaker 6 (17:53):
No, the other plague.
Speaker 8 (17:54):
Hit in the face, and so you've got tricks.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
I punched your trick.
Speaker 6 (18:04):
That's not your face.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
That's not so.
Speaker 6 (18:10):
So the pants have a filter once it on.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
The Panthers lose marrig for one game. And this is
the first time we've talked to Zoke since all of this,
because you were on the broadcast the night before, so, uh,
you know, we were talking yesterday about how this was
it's kind of a this is a taxing game to watch.
It was not. It was not a game that kind
of flowed along very well.
Speaker 7 (18:29):
It was like it was a taxing game to play.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
Yeah, that too, that was after the game. Uh so
twenty to nine. The Panthers are now. They had the
chance to take over the division and they did not,
But there's still a lot of games to play. What
are your thoughts after watching that game on on Monday night?
Speaker 8 (18:46):
My synopsis was first half, three takeaways, we get three points,
and that was where we needed to make some money.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
We just didn't.
Speaker 8 (18:54):
And then we're down only ten three at half time.
But when they scored that touchdown with the ncaffein in
up seventeen threes, like, that's that's where you needed all
that those points because we just never had those opportunities. Again,
the offense really didn't play well two hundred and thirty yards,
and then the second half became this weird attrition of
concussion protocols and injuries. I mean, like the backups to
the backups were getting hurt. To the point I was thinging,
(19:15):
I think Jara Varah's going to have to like over
to the offensive side of the bench and go, hey,
if you ever played linebacker. I know you're a receiver,
but could you play safety? Like we started without our
starting two linebackers, and that to their credit to hold
the score to twenty points with all the guys that
were out, I thought, actually, defensively, they played well enough
to win the game. But we just did not capitalize
obviously on those first and goal at the one and
(19:38):
come away with nothing except another turnover. Was ridiculous. So
that was that was kind of the ball game in
the first half, I thought.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
And so short week and you have the La Rams
who look like world beaters, right those.
Speaker 8 (19:48):
Guys, I believe they're called the best team in the
NFL right now. And so they're playing at such a
high level at this moment nine and two. And Matt Stafford,
their quarterback, has thirty touchdowns and two intercepts.
Speaker 16 (20:00):
That's insane.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
It's like a Megabeth kind of it.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
Yeah, mega minute.
Speaker 7 (20:05):
Do I have him?
Speaker 8 (20:06):
No, I think I actually had him. But you you know,
you have Jackson Smith and Jigbow who's like the best
receiver by far.
Speaker 6 (20:15):
He did that, you should trade him to us.
Speaker 7 (20:17):
Bernie Bernie did that?
Speaker 15 (20:19):
I think?
Speaker 6 (20:19):
No, I didn't.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
Oh you didn't.
Speaker 15 (20:20):
You drafted him?
Speaker 7 (20:21):
Oh, I'm so good.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
I think it was accidental. Best best player available.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
That's like when you just started that, guys, I wasn't
even trying. That's amazing.
Speaker 7 (20:32):
My entire draft was accidental. I didn't realize I had
drafted any of the people. You guys were messaging me
during that, like did you know you just got Bryce?
Speaker 4 (20:38):
And I was like, how it was right after you
started to figure out how to do that that you
started the draft players like Jackson.
Speaker 7 (20:44):
Well, it's because I had a filter on that only
had panthers on my screen.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
Only time you have a filter.
Speaker 6 (20:49):
Oh second time.
Speaker 7 (20:54):
The six o'clock hour.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
I kid because I love all right traffic check right now.
It was on the platter, it was on the the
softball was there. We cover it off a low blows.
Speaker 8 (21:10):
I was gonna say that was a low blow, but
it was best on the receiving them that.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Oh, by the way, I didn't I didn't get to
the one last part of that with the Merrig thing.
Bernie is real quick. Dave Canalis was asked by Joe
Person about the marrig situation yesterday.
Speaker 14 (21:27):
Hey, Dave, obviously the League acted on Tray Vaughan.
Speaker 9 (21:31):
Do you know whether he is going to appeal that.
Speaker 17 (21:35):
I'm not sure that's up to train his uh, his
whole group as they discussed this. So but he and
I had a good conversation. Obviously, I'll keep all those
things private between between uh Trey and I, but they'll
they'll make any decisions going forward.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
They'll keep it private about his privacy.
Speaker 6 (21:52):
You played all that just so you could get that
ride in.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Who's taking the shots?
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Now?
Speaker 7 (21:58):
Can we play the humble brags? Just for that?
Speaker 6 (22:02):
Was good, humble guys by I took the word private.
I used it in two different ways, and then I.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
H hey, let's do a show, all right. So programming note,
Later this morning, nine o'clock the hour, we're going to
talk to someone who is performing in tonight's No Vaunt
Health Thanksgiving Eve parade. His name is Jack Burns. He's
going to perform in studio with us, or for us,
not with us.
Speaker 7 (22:32):
What's that? What's that music with some parade?
Speaker 18 (22:36):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (22:36):
It's a marching band?
Speaker 2 (22:38):
It is all right?
Speaker 4 (22:39):
Is that okay?
Speaker 1 (22:39):
Yeah? Yeah?
Speaker 18 (22:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (22:40):
It just took me. It's like, while you were talking though,
zoo it is like a kazoo, And I was like,
what interesting I begin to play the kazoo.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Would you prefer this.
Speaker 11 (22:51):
Now?
Speaker 7 (22:51):
Back to NPR, Yes, that sounds just like a parade.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
It all right? So I just want to let you
know what's coming up on nine o'clock hour here on
Thanksgiving Eve. Bowl Season is coming up soon after Thanksgiving.
Bowl Season has scored its first ever multi year deal
with a title sponsor. I don't mean for a game,
I mean for Bowl Season. Was announced yesterday that Coca
(23:17):
Cola has signed a deal to become the title sponsor
for Bowl Season, rebranding the organization as Coca Cola Bowl Season.
It's part of the deal, Coke will have a presence
across Bowl Season's platforms, including in venue activations, in game features,
and all digital initiatives.
Speaker 7 (23:34):
Do you remember back when American Idol first started and
they always had the big giant Coca Cola cups on
their desk, You know, the judges did as they were
as like product placement, in your face, product placement. This
is like that on steroids.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
The only other time I remember this, well, yeah, you're
exactly right.
Speaker 6 (23:54):
I don't remember.
Speaker 15 (23:56):
You don't remember that.
Speaker 7 (23:57):
It was another one of those moments where I say
something to everyone's it's just like huh.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
Well, back in was two thousand and three, this came
and went. I don't know what happened to it, but
I remember I remember Larson talking about this back when
I was working with Keith because he's a Chicago guy,
and he was talking about Chicago Bears. The Chicago Bears Inc.
The deal back in two thousand and three with Bank
One to have the Chicago Bears be sponsored by Bank One.
(24:23):
So the idea was, anytime you ever said Chicago Bears,
you had to say Chicago Bears football brought to you
by Bank One.
Speaker 7 (24:28):
So this is what that is. I feel like for
every announcer that does any of the bowl games that
you're going to be like, this is the Coca Cola
comp Usa Citrus Bowl. Yeah, yeah, this CompUSA is still
a thing. I know they used to sponsor the Citrus Bowl.
I don't think so that could have been ninety five.
Speaker 6 (24:44):
Maybe Loca Cola's online too. They paid for that mention.
You didn't give it.
Speaker 7 (24:48):
To them and I didn't get it right. But that's
the thing. Will they what happens to the announcers who
forget to say, hey, this is the Coca Cola do.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
As you know?
Speaker 8 (24:55):
Producers in their ear will make sure because that would
be a multimillion dollar mistake.
Speaker 4 (24:58):
But the Chicago Bears thing went away like I don't
know what happened there, other than to think that they
just got way too cumbersome.
Speaker 7 (25:06):
Because it also probably got annoying and people probably stopped
banking at Bank one because they were sick of hearing it.
You know how, sometimes you just get annoyed from over
saturation and you're like, man, I'm not gonna I'm not
gonna pay attention to this anymore.
Speaker 4 (25:18):
But if this catches on, you're going to see it everywhere,
because you talk about monetizing something that's easy to monetize,
like they don't have to do anything extra. Just put
that name every time you say it, and I guarantee
you they they charge it fortuns.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
President Trump, brought to you by McDonald.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
Well, so well, yes, oh oh my, that seems like
something that might be on the horizon.
Speaker 6 (25:37):
See in because you would benefit.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
And CNN just inked a deal with T Mobile where
every time I don't know how it's all going to
manifest as far as their coverage goes, but T Mobile
has has signed a deal with them, which essentially says
CNN's news is sponsored by T Mobile, So you're going
to see it pop up all over the place. And
if this if this works for them, and this works
for the Bowl season thing? Get ready? Because I don't
(26:01):
we laugh about you know, President Trump or any famous
person attaching their name to somebody.
Speaker 8 (26:07):
I mean, what would it be great if his like
suit code had like a McDonald's logo, like an NBA
at Jersey would or.
Speaker 7 (26:12):
Something right, or you had to wear one of the
McDonald's advisors, you know when he was out at certain
or or just landmarks around Washington, d C. You know
big Neon Coca Cola sign on top of the Lincoln Memorial. Like,
I feel like we're headed towards something weird if we
especially now that we know that news segments could be
potentially sponsored by companies.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Or what about this? You know NBA uniforms have have
logos on there. Now you know that right above what
is it on the left, right above the logo where
you can put your company name. That's a spot to advertise.
Are we are we that far away from players like
tattooing companies on their on their wrist?
Speaker 7 (26:49):
Well don't you remember when that was a thing online?
When when online became when YouTube really became popular and
people would get paid tons of money to put to
tattoo a brand logo like on their face somewhere and
people did it for you know, a million dollars.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
Don't have to give one to bet tattooed on my face.
Speaker 9 (27:05):
I don't care.
Speaker 6 (27:05):
I'll do it. Well, I mean, take one for the team.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
I'll do it.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
Hey, this is radio. We all have them right now.
You don't even know.
Speaker 6 (27:13):
Look at it.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
It's almost seven o'clock.
Speaker 19 (27:16):
Sarah Benzino, Brand, Danny Koli, Jablonsky Autobody LLC.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
WHOA, whoa?
Speaker 6 (27:24):
What's she called?
Speaker 7 (27:25):
Harper?
Speaker 3 (27:25):
Oh you mean Jablonsky Auto Buddy LLC.
Speaker 20 (27:27):
He actually sold the twins naming ranks.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
You know, bank stadiums.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Dude, kids are so expensive these days.
Speaker 20 (27:33):
Here you comes Oasis, Breeze, Tan and Spo.
Speaker 4 (27:37):
If you need a ten, I'm your man to get.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
This is a gentleman here, Ja from Me's Talk eleven
ten and ninety nine three double.
Speaker 16 (27:44):
E Bet Strange things are a foot at the circle case.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
This is good Morning Beat with Bo Thompson and Beth Trout.
Speaker 4 (27:53):
Bit watched for the changes and try to keepop.
Speaker 6 (27:55):
Okay right now.
Speaker 21 (28:03):
Holiday A brow three four.
Speaker 19 (28:14):
I found down long ago.
Speaker 20 (28:18):
It's a long way down the holiday road.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
Holiday good morning. I don't know if y'all know this.
You can finish the se on West I've never.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
Heard of but I was no.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
Not you.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
It's not about you.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
The Straight New Chaser. Yes, it is burnt Man. I'm
glad you asked.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
Holiday Holiday.
Speaker 4 (29:06):
Brand new from Straight No Chaser. That's their new album
called Holiday Road Fitting because we're going to talk about
Thanksgiving travel. That's Lindsey Buckingham. Wait song never gets old.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Holiday.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
So, if you are traveling this holiday season, there is
one thing apparently that you can do that makes you
the worst type of traveler.
Speaker 7 (29:39):
Yeah, are you the most annoying traveler this holiday season?
A Hotel Tonight survey finds that one thing annoys people
who are traveling more than any other traveling trait, if
you will. So let's talk about the most annoying one. First,
the most annoying holiday travel trait running late, people annoyed
(30:04):
by if you're traveling with another family, maybe another family member, friends,
and people who are constantly running late and then kind
of taking their tardiness out on other people.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
This is why we travel by a caravan. I don't
feel tarty. You know you guys, you guys can arrive,
and I took a detour to Kerry Grove. It's how
it worked there.
Speaker 7 (30:26):
Yeah, we're bo arrived like forty five minutes after all
of the rest of us.
Speaker 6 (30:30):
It's where does he go?
Speaker 7 (30:31):
Where is so good?
Speaker 4 (30:33):
He'll have to ask him? Uh So, being late is
the number one travel faux pas.
Speaker 7 (30:39):
Yes, the most annoying trait too. And and and it's
true that it not only annoys fellow travelers, it annoys
the people you might be traveling with. It also annoys
the people who are working for the airlines for TSA.
You know, the people who are consistently It's kind of
like the people who have road rage, but they have
road rage because they're running late, you know they And
(31:00):
that's why some people have those bumper stickers that say, hey,
don't get mad at me, I left my house on time.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
That is true, though, that is a thing, being mad
at yourself. I mean, I've yelled things at the window
of my car that would scare young children.
Speaker 7 (31:14):
Well, and apparently when you're traveling air travel, then people
sometimes yelled at at other people.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
They yelled at children. I don't know what that meant.
And this is all according to Hotel Tonight's latest survey.
It is their holiday Travel Report, surveying fifteen hundred hundred
of its users to find out the top pain points
and habits regarding the upcoming travel period.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
Story there's that Hotel Tonight is fifteen hundred users, because
what is Hotel Tonight.
Speaker 7 (31:40):
That's actually true, the Hotel Tonight does have fifteen hundred So.
Speaker 8 (31:43):
Like we all don't like ABC News reports Hotel Tonight reporting.
Speaker 7 (31:47):
So number one, what they found out is that most
Americans will not will not arrive super early to the airport.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Nearly two thirds of surveday respond It's Jim Zokie say
they'd refer to to yes, sir, they would they would
prefer to stay in a hotel room rather than family
for the holiday season.
Speaker 7 (32:07):
You know, I think you get to a certain age
where that's true when you're younger, like like I don't know,
the guest bedroom, the sofa, the fold out bed. It
seems like a chronic question.
Speaker 6 (32:18):
What watch the dog situation? You know, there's a lot
of that going on.
Speaker 7 (32:21):
Right, But then as you get older, you kind of
need a little space. You want to you know, be
able to take a shower and not have to share
the bathroom with five other people, waterbed, you know, or
you just want to sit and be in the quiet,
which is impossible, you know around the holidays if everybody
is staying in one house. So most people don't want
(32:43):
to stay in family abodes.
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Here's another one. Most Americans won't arrive super early to
the airport as much as people talk about it.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Oh we didn't.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
Again, I can't belive it, Bode, did you know that
you don't need rooster?
Speaker 7 (33:01):
Should Did you know the Hotel Tonight said that most
people will not arrive early to the airport read the timeline.
Speaker 8 (33:08):
So I listened so intently to what you say that
I've heard some people won't stay with family, they'll stay
at the hotel room.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
What is that in there at all?
Speaker 7 (33:15):
I have never heard that information.
Speaker 8 (33:17):
You guys heard of this site Hotel Tonight, by the way,
that you mentioned in the first time hearing about this.
Speaker 6 (33:23):
Practice.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
I heard this new song.
Speaker 7 (33:26):
Wait is that straight no Chaser?
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Why?
Speaker 4 (33:28):
Yes, it is. I'm glad you asked I should practice this.
Speaker 6 (33:30):
Segment three two, what busy travel time?
Speaker 11 (33:35):
Hi guys, coming up?
Speaker 6 (33:36):
Thanksgivving big holiday.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
Family seven fourteen on w B two, It's the dog situation.
Speaker 7 (33:42):
You know, most people don't want to stay on a
fulled out couch.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
Jim, all right, traffic check right now, Boomer vughon Cannon,
you got it both.
Speaker 8 (33:51):
Hey having this in northbound seventy seven there actual eleven
Berkshire Freeway.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
I quit.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Good morning, DT, this is good morning.
Speaker 22 (34:00):
Beating the see with a boy ass guys a sea
with a boys as guys the scene.
Speaker 4 (34:11):
I know it's not quite Thanksgiving yet, said the shepherd,
but I thought to the day, I'll just lean in.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
Do you know what?
Speaker 21 (34:22):
I know?
Speaker 7 (34:23):
What you mean to say? Christmas?
Speaker 4 (34:25):
I'm meant to say? Do you hear what I hear?
Come on, Johnny maths the night the tail? All right,
let's try this again, guys.
Speaker 6 (34:33):
A cod with the tail?
Speaker 22 (34:36):
Nasty guys A.
Speaker 8 (34:41):
Holly ever noticed that phrase before?
Speaker 7 (34:44):
I don't think I've ever heard that verse.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
All these years.
Speaker 7 (34:47):
Apparently apparently we all are not listening much to must
of anything.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Oh so where were we? Beth, guys?
Speaker 7 (34:54):
I got like, I know, I don't.
Speaker 6 (34:56):
I don't know if you know travel season crazy.
Speaker 7 (34:58):
Hotel Tonight did a service about traveling Hotel tonight y say,
fifteen thousand respondents. They checked on what holiday travel is
like for Hotel Tonight respondents, and they discovered, as we
were saying just before the commercial break, that the most
annoying travel habit for travelers is someone running late, someone
(35:19):
in your travel party running late, or someone.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
Write this down so I can remember this.
Speaker 6 (35:23):
Where does somebody not paying attention right now?
Speaker 7 (35:25):
Yeah? Someone just you know, family.
Speaker 6 (35:26):
Members that don't pay attention at the table.
Speaker 7 (35:27):
They don't pay attention to the clock. Huh h. So,
as as BO mentioned, most Americans will not arrive early
to the airport, very important when that's what Hotel Tonight
discovered that people do not want to spend any extra
amount of time. There are even seventeen percent of people
saying that they are last minute travelers, arriving only thirty
(35:50):
minutes before their board time is set to expire.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
About living on the edge. That's insane.
Speaker 7 (35:55):
Yeah, especially in the holidays, whenever you're thinking about trying
to get through tsay eight minutes, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (36:00):
And they change your gate at the last second.
Speaker 7 (36:01):
Yeah, like what yeah, we do. But I think that
leads to the ones the people who are constantly traveling
late and annoying everyone else around them because they're trying
to get to their gate and they're bumping into people.
And then that's how people get to the most annoying
travel habit is.
Speaker 4 (36:15):
Like a regular dabt. I get to the gate at
least three hours early before my flight. Vernie, you're no
regular dad.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
It's like, are you're right?
Speaker 6 (36:21):
I'm a Superdad's right?
Speaker 15 (36:22):
Mega?
Speaker 7 (36:23):
The biggest worry? What would you think the biggest worry
is for holiday travelers?
Speaker 6 (36:28):
Gang shot?
Speaker 7 (36:29):
Oh my god?
Speaker 6 (36:31):
What what would be a big like, what would be
a big deal?
Speaker 7 (36:36):
Jim, that's number two sixty, number two on Hotel.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
TA getting murdered. How about that flight?
Speaker 6 (36:42):
I'm losing their luggage? Did I say, gang shot?
Speaker 7 (36:45):
Flight delays?
Speaker 4 (36:46):
Don't ask me.
Speaker 7 (36:47):
Flight delays are the biggest worry. As of Tuesday of
this week Thanksgiving, flight delays and cancelations. Uh, they said
were low, which I had actually heard differently than that.
I feel like hotels Tonight got this one wrong. Because
that storm that came through the southern part of the
United States. Houston had a bunch of cancelations. Alabama, Mississippi
(37:07):
tons of cancelations, Atlanta had some cancelations yesterday, and they
even had like an oil pipeline break for the refueling
system at that might have been New Jersey's airport. But
isn't that crazy wrong? This is one that Hotel Tonight
that surprised me. Americans are actually booking.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
You're systematically thwarting the credibility of Hotel Tonight.
Speaker 8 (37:33):
I need an IT team investigation into Hotel Tonight. And
who are the team of journalists at Hotel Tonight that
compiled all this.
Speaker 7 (37:40):
Information Americans according to Hotel Tonight, which, by the way,
if you've never used Hotel Tonight, it is a website,
you know it.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Wait, after all this, you have used Hotel Tonight.
Speaker 7 (37:54):
I have used Hotel Tonight.
Speaker 6 (37:55):
Is it like Expedia or like?
Speaker 4 (37:57):
Yes, but you use it day You're embarrassed right now.
Speaker 7 (38:00):
You use it day of? You use it day of. So,
say you have a last minute travel or or or
say you are traveling to to stay with your family.
Speaker 6 (38:09):
If you do tonight, wow, Hey I need a hotel
for an hour.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Well you're in luck, Jim. It's not that we'll take long.
Speaker 6 (38:23):
Do I have to pay for the whole night?
Speaker 4 (38:27):
My business is done here.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
No.
Speaker 7 (38:32):
No, it's just they have all of those you know,
the last minute deals. It's the hotels that aren't booked.
You can go to Hotels Tonight and it will find
the hotel the hotels that don't have complete full occupancy,
and you can get like a half priced deal because
they're trying to book those rooms that weren't booked, you know,
that haven't been booked, so that they can you know,
(38:53):
have a sold out occupancy. So it is a it
is if you were doing last minute travel.
Speaker 6 (38:58):
It is mistid the premise that I got you.
Speaker 7 (39:03):
So, of course, of course Hotels Tonight would say that
Americans are booking last minute holiday travel because of course
the respondents who are responding to a Hotels Tonight survey
are looking for a Hotel Tonight.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
Was thinking of motels Tonight.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
That's right.
Speaker 6 (39:20):
We're surrounded by several of them here in the area.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
This door opens from the outside and I mean outdoors.
Speaker 7 (39:26):
And then number five, number five bo had mentioned travelers
prefer a hotel room to staying with family. So if
you are currently on your way right now to go
stay with family, and you're thinking, oh, I don't want
to stay with family, you could you go use Hotels
Tonight and get a hotel.
Speaker 6 (39:42):
Okay, So this whole thing was an ad for that
I think it might have been.
Speaker 7 (39:45):
This is a that's right, I think this survey was
actually a commercial.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
This was a Coca Cola Hotel season.
Speaker 7 (39:53):
Yes, this is a Coca Cola brought to you. A
Coca Cola brings us hotels tonight.
Speaker 4 (39:56):
Now, we've been talking about getting to where you want
to go, right, the means of travel. Uh, there's been
a lot of talk this year about once you actually
get to the Thanksgiving table and you sit down for
that meal, what kind of conversation ensues?
Speaker 7 (40:13):
Is it stressful? Is it stressful conversation? Is it strained conversation?
Is it easy? Is it easy?
Speaker 6 (40:18):
Poet the politics as well?
Speaker 4 (40:20):
Politican And that's what it really comes down to, Right,
do you do you get into politics? Does someone at
the table bring up politics and you don't want them to?
How's this all going to go? Because we all know
that the political strife in this country is at a
fever pitch. I feel like I say that every year,
but that I don't feel like I'm wrong saying it's
as high as it's ever been this year, Jim, do
you just get up from the table if they start
(40:41):
talking politics like you do here, they're just going to
walk out.
Speaker 6 (40:44):
They just get up.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
Okay, sorry, get the dogs out. Sorry, Yes, Sanders says,
Hey Jim, it's.
Speaker 15 (40:50):
Time to.
Speaker 6 (40:53):
Yeah, this is what she says. Could you help clear
the table? Like, oh, that's my song and I have.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
To go now.
Speaker 4 (40:59):
I'm this because once you do arrive at the Thanksgiving table,
we're going to go from hotels tonight to realsimple dot com.
Speaker 6 (41:09):
Okay, I love that brought you by Real Simple.
Speaker 7 (41:12):
I love that bow reads Real Simple. I feel like
I have now put this into his news algorithm Real.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
Simple Random conversation starters. In other words, we're going to
help you when we come back.
Speaker 6 (41:23):
We ran this segment so many different ways.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
If you're sitting at the Thanksgiving table, we're going to
give you jumping off points. You don't have to wait
for the political blow up to happen. You can avoid
it by asking one of several different questions.
Speaker 7 (41:36):
We're going to throw out that donald start yourselves out
and head it off at the pass. If somebody just
change the conversation. You don't like what's being said, change
the conversation, I.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
Might have to ask this of the room. Some of
these questions, we'll just fire them away. See what happens
on the.
Speaker 8 (41:51):
Other contends that we're sitting at the dining table to
get you.
Speaker 7 (41:54):
Yes, I kind of want some of our listeners to
possibly call in and see if we can ask them
some of these questions.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
I mean, we've kind of doing it. Only thing missing
is the turkey. We've been talking around the table, the
proverbial table, last thirty minutes.
Speaker 7 (42:05):
I would have to say, if anyone we're sitting at
this table over the last half hour, it would have
been a highly entertaining if I do say so myself.
Speaker 15 (42:15):
Sorry it was loud.
Speaker 4 (42:16):
Jim was just wouldn't be quite about school bonds. Mighty memorable,
I would say. Now, still to come on the show today,
Scott Huffman's going to join us next hour. Political headlines
heading into a Thanksgiving week, Sean O'Connell returns at the
top of the hour, Wicked for Good is in theaters,
and also Stranger Things returns to Netflix tonight, and much
(42:36):
more coming up. As Mark said, we got a guy
who's going to be in tonight's Thanksgiving Eve parade Novent
Health in Uptown Charlotte. So a lot to do between
now and ten am.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
This is Good Morning Beat with both Hudson and Beth Trout.
Speaker 4 (42:49):
Ben seven thirty seven on News Talk eleven ten WBT,
as Mark was saying earlier, newly released body cam video
shows the Carlos Brown Junior explaining to c MPDO officers
his belief that he was exposed to something that took
away his ability to control his body. This, now, this
(43:11):
is the thing is wbt's Mark Errison rejoins us here.
You know, people may have seen the headline about the
bodycam footage of this guy. This is not the same
night where the Arena Zarutzka stabbing happened. It's not even
close to that. It's much earlier in the year, in January.
But it does give you a window into perhaps what
(43:31):
the frame of mind this guy was in, you know,
for parts of last year.
Speaker 23 (43:38):
Yeah, exactly. I think it's a good point. This happened
in January, and of course he stabbed her on the
light rail in August, so it's a long period of
time between that. But he kept calling nine one one,
telling officers that something was controlling his body and that
they needed to do something. This little clip here is
(43:58):
from the body Campery and d David album.
Speaker 7 (44:01):
So we can investigate what ease.
Speaker 23 (44:03):
He said, got to get surgery and get this out
of me, to investigate what it is. Now, the cops
who've had some training and dealing with situations like this
with people who frankly appear to be a bit out
of their mind, they were very calm and patient with him.
But at one point there, as they were in front
of the hospital, which is where he had made the
nine to one one call from in front of Presbyterian,
(44:26):
they told him, don't call nine one one again, we
can't help you. Well, he called nine one one again
and that's when they arrested him, charging him with the
simple misdemeanor of misusing nine one one. And it's important
to note a lot has been made about the fact
that he was let back out on the street. Well,
misusing nine one one. Anybody who was charged with that
would be let back out on the street. There's been
(44:48):
some question as to whether the magistrate knew anything about
his past or other crimes. But the fact is he
was simply charged with the misdemeanor and was let go.
Speaker 7 (44:56):
Yeah, I think that's that's an excellent point that you
just made their market. I think the other thing that
now seeing this video is is is making people wonder
about and maybe this is a helpful conversation for us
to have as a society, is when someone is showing
a mental break of some sort, you know, having hallucinations
(45:19):
or you know, believing that they aren't in control of
their thoughts or their body, then what are the next
steps as a community, How do we as human beings
help those people? And what can we do to help people?
You know, if he obviously called nine one one because
he believed he needed help and he didn't know where
to go, He didn't know what to do or how
(45:41):
to go about getting the help that he needed, and
seemed in that video to be afraid of himself, his
own mind, you know, whatever it was that he was
battling in that moment. But as a society, how do
we help when help is needed?
Speaker 23 (45:57):
Well, what's interesting in this video you realized that he
was convinced in his mind that this was a law
enforcement matter, that they needed to deal with this, and
they asked him about his mental state. At one point
he said I'm fine, and then later he said, well
they've told me I'm schizophrenic. So the officers obviously there's
nothing they could do for him. He apparently at that point,
(46:21):
just based on that little interaction, did not qualify for
an involuntary commitment to a mental hospital. So yeah, the
cops were between a rock and a hard place a
little bit, and then when he just kept calling nine
one one, they warned him and they finally cuffed him.
Speaker 4 (46:36):
Yeah, I mean, as you watch it and as you
get up this morning, it's a different experience reading about
what it said and then actually watching it yourself, because
you'll see that he's very distraught in this video, and
you'll also see that the cops tell him several times,
don't make that phone call again to nine one one,
and then he basically goes over almost like a kid
would go in frond a parent and say I'm doing
(46:57):
it again, what are you gonna do about it?
Speaker 3 (46:58):
Exactly?
Speaker 15 (46:59):
And he does it.
Speaker 4 (47:00):
So that footage is out there today. Obviously it's there's
some bad language in it, so be aware of that
if you go watch the raw video. But more to
come on this, for sure, but it's definitely a story
that of course, as we pointed out at the beginning
of this, this particular footage is from January nineteenth, and
the stabbing happened in August of this year, so there's
(47:23):
a good bit of time in between. But still, you know,
that's just a few months before that, so you can
see that this guy obviously something's not right, right, Yeah.
Speaker 23 (47:31):
You're exactly right. Now he is supposedly at some point
going to be getting a mental evaluation. He had, by
the way, when he was released on that charge of
misusing nine to one one, there had been an order
at some point for him to undergo a mental evaluation.
Speaker 4 (47:46):
It just had not happened.
Speaker 23 (47:49):
But apparently it is now happening, we're told, or has
happened in the last few weeks. We're just not sure
about the timing on that, because there's a lot of
questions to answer his state of mind before they prepare
the case of him stabbing Arenas the roots gap and Mark.
Speaker 4 (48:06):
What is the reason for it being released yesterday? I mean,
was there some sort of statute, would they had to
wait that long? Or what do we know as to
why all of a sudden they'd made the decision to
release it here just before Thanksgiving?
Speaker 23 (48:19):
You know what, that's a question I want to pursue
because I don't know the answer to that. You cannot
just release bodycam footage in the state of North Carolina
unless you get an order from a judge. So I
don't know if CMPD went and asked for it, or
if some media people did. I'm not aware that any
media people had asked for that, so I'm not exactly
sure about the timing or why behind that.
Speaker 4 (48:41):
All right, more to com Thank you very much, Mark
seven forty three on News Talk eleven ten WBT. Sean
O'Connell joins us, coming up at eight oh five on
Wicked for Good and also the return of Stranger Things
got Netflix tonight, and yes, as promised, we will give
you a free list of conversations stars at the Thanksgiving
(49:01):
table if you're trying to avoid strife. So I don't
know if it's a guarantee. It's like Christian Bernard's guarantee.
But we're gonna at least try to help help the
public news you can use.
Speaker 3 (49:13):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (49:14):
If I remember, Hey, what's up?
Speaker 24 (49:15):
How are you doing?
Speaker 6 (49:16):
Fan bam?
Speaker 4 (49:16):
I like that. I don't know what it means, but
I like it.
Speaker 11 (49:19):
Hey, how are you hi?
Speaker 2 (49:20):
We're great?
Speaker 9 (49:22):
Show that fun, This is.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
Good morning beat.
Speaker 25 (49:27):
Question that's always bothered me and a lot of people.
Mayflower combined with Philadelphia. No brain, all right, because this
is where the Mayflower landed. Not so it turns out
Columbus actually set put somewhere down in the West Indies.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
Little known fact.
Speaker 4 (49:42):
How does the name Mayflower get up to the Quaker city? Well,
it wasn't actually Columbus and the Mayflower, as you'll probably remember,
and he did land in Plymouth Rock.
Speaker 25 (49:51):
Well, they landed several places because there's a Nina the Pinta.
There are a couple of them and they all landed
in different places. But really the well, I'm not the story.
Let put people in the production booth deal with that.
Speaker 2 (50:02):
One.
Speaker 4 (50:05):
Happy Thanksgiving, I love Donald Trump? Was that Fred Willard
I'm miss Fred Willard Well movie?
Speaker 7 (50:14):
It is such a good movie.
Speaker 4 (50:16):
Random Thanksgiving dinner table conversation starters thanks to our friends
at real simple dot com. Not to be confused with
Hotels Tonight, Hotel to Night.
Speaker 6 (50:28):
That's their tackling.
Speaker 4 (50:30):
So you want some of these, like if you're trying
to avoid politics at the dinner table or you know,
uncomfortable conversations, we're gonna throw at some of these out things.
You can ask people what was your most bizarre holiday purchase?
Speaker 7 (50:44):
Can you imagine. See here it is. I'm sitting at
you know, Thanksgiving dinner with the entire family, and I'm picturing,
you know, my brother or somebody saying, have you have
you seen the latest news about canvas owens? You know,
the like the whatever, the whatever, the hot political conspiracy theories.
Where he is and me saying, but really, what was
the most bizarre purchase?
Speaker 2 (51:05):
Give me that voice?
Speaker 15 (51:06):
What was your most bizarre?
Speaker 6 (51:09):
This was a life cat in a box, Schrodinger's cat.
Speaker 4 (51:13):
It's me owing. Okay, Let's see what new and unexpected?
And that's my favorite part. Unexpected? What new and unexpected
hobby have you started this year?
Speaker 6 (51:25):
Unexpected? I did not expect it, just start. It just
snuck up on me. It was woodworking.
Speaker 4 (51:31):
Let's see, like like somebody out there listening around you
gotta try that. Not just what new unexpected?
Speaker 7 (51:37):
What unexpected hobby have you?
Speaker 26 (51:40):
I made an.
Speaker 4 (51:40):
Unconscious effort to start running.
Speaker 6 (51:42):
I never thought I would make a quilt, but I did.
Speaker 4 (51:45):
I just looked down and there it was.
Speaker 6 (51:49):
I didn't even know I had the skills.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
Where did you look?
Speaker 6 (51:55):
I made a quilt.
Speaker 4 (51:57):
What's the weirdest nickname you had growing up?
Speaker 7 (52:01):
If you're with your family, don't they already know?
Speaker 4 (52:03):
Well, maybe you can say, do you remember what the weird?
Do you remember what it was like? What did everybody
used to call me that we got left?
Speaker 7 (52:10):
Did you have a nickname? Did you have a weird nickname?
Speaker 18 (52:12):
Me?
Speaker 7 (52:12):
Yeah, I think we should answer some of these, like
we're at a dinner table.
Speaker 6 (52:14):
I can't say.
Speaker 7 (52:17):
Mine was puddles.
Speaker 4 (52:19):
Yeah, you've told us that before.
Speaker 7 (52:20):
Yeah, I mean open book puddles because I tinkled when
I left.
Speaker 8 (52:23):
When I was in Indian guys, my dad gave us names.
He was like big River and we were like I
was like a little stream.
Speaker 7 (52:30):
That sounds like a prostate problem.
Speaker 6 (52:33):
Thanks to flow match.
Speaker 4 (52:36):
Those are the two extremes Tibet's nicknames. Exactly, You're little
Why do you get to be big River?
Speaker 7 (52:44):
Did you have a did you?
Speaker 18 (52:45):
I don't.
Speaker 6 (52:45):
You didn't have a name, little.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
Boo boo boo, Little boo boo boo boo.
Speaker 7 (52:49):
You were the oldest of the three, right, you're the oldest.
Speaker 4 (52:51):
Now, my I have two younger brothers, and I for
a while there told them that we had another older
brother that was not living in the house anymore.
Speaker 3 (53:00):
His name was Rusty.
Speaker 6 (53:02):
Wait, seems like a brother from happy days.
Speaker 4 (53:05):
I made up a brother named Rusty. And sometimes my
parents would, you know, play a long and sometimes they
just wouldn't say anything. But I guarantee you I'll see
both my brothers tomorrow. Rusty will come up.
Speaker 7 (53:16):
Oh really, see now that's fun. That's a fun.
Speaker 6 (53:18):
Did you come up with the Rusty?
Speaker 4 (53:19):
I just vacations before I saw vacation, because of course,
if if I had seen vacation, I would have called
him rusty.
Speaker 6 (53:26):
And you can say good chocolate, that's right.
Speaker 7 (53:28):
I feel like if praise. If we had done that
at the Troutman household, everyone would have absolutely believed that
we had some brothers.
Speaker 6 (53:36):
Your other family.
Speaker 4 (53:37):
Your dad would say, you've got sis and parents too.
Speaker 6 (53:42):
Second, thanks kipping, I'll see you guys later.
Speaker 15 (53:45):
This is fourth meal, guys.
Speaker 4 (53:47):
That's why I only need this hotel for a few minutes.
Speaker 7 (53:49):
I actually this so.
Speaker 4 (53:56):
Wait, I didn't mean it that you sure you took
it at a place I didn't mean what.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
Did you mean that nearby?
Speaker 7 (54:03):
So this one I enjoy because this is questions that
you can ask at a table filled with all the
different age groups. So I think this one could be fun.
You could go around the table and ask each person
this one, who is the funniest person at the table?
Speaker 4 (54:19):
And why can we pick ourselves?
Speaker 6 (54:21):
Yeah, I would imagine.
Speaker 4 (54:23):
Zochie's at the table. Then it's not even a contest.
Speaker 7 (54:26):
I think that would be fun though. If you went around,
especially to get into the kids, like who do the
kids think it's the funniest person? That could be a
really good conversation started. That could lead to many family stories.
You could start telling stories about all of the funny,
fun things that that person has done. It'll completely change
the tone of the table.
Speaker 6 (54:44):
Remember that time rushed to.
Speaker 7 (54:51):
And then I also think and we did this one
year my sister in law. It was before my brother
married her, so she was just the girlfriend I think
at the time. But her parents it's joined us for
our Thanksgiving and I told them that it was tradition
to go around the troutman table and tell us what
you're thankful for. And we started with them and then
we stopped. Wasn't that bad, No, it was just to
(55:14):
embarrass them, just to make them think that that's what
we actually did.
Speaker 8 (55:16):
Sandra, does that we do it too. We have, I
would say on average fifteen to eighteen people. Not all
the kids can make it living in different places. But
now they all have significant others. We got grandkids. Now
we got grandma and grandpa and all that. And Sandra
will just what we'll do having a good time, and
what are you thankful for?
Speaker 6 (55:34):
And go around to each one.
Speaker 8 (55:35):
It's just the awkwardness and then they have to come
up with something. I like gravy, you know, just like God.
Speaker 7 (55:40):
I love asking that question, though, what are you thankful for?
Speaker 6 (55:44):
I love all my children, I love my grand babies
and my dogs.
Speaker 4 (55:47):
I like gravy.
Speaker 16 (55:48):
I like totals.
Speaker 6 (55:50):
This, I like vicha. Do you like pizza?
Speaker 7 (55:52):
This is another really good one. And I have an
answer if I think we all have the same answer.
If you could redo yesterday, what would you do? Yeah,
that is a SoundBite.
Speaker 4 (56:05):
That is not me making the noise.
Speaker 6 (56:06):
Now she has to clarify every time that it almost
sounds like a turkey.
Speaker 7 (56:12):
Gobblin it does it's perfect for thanks.
Speaker 6 (56:14):
Wait again, it sounds like a turkey one more time.
Speaker 4 (56:16):
Sorry, this is it does sound like a turkey.
Speaker 7 (56:20):
That was an actual noise I made on the Air's
got pardoned.
Speaker 4 (56:23):
Yeah, we have to get to trump pardoning the turkeys
before we get out of here today.
Speaker 7 (56:28):
Yeah, he was gonna name Chuck and Nancy, but he
named him like Gobbler and Nobblers.
Speaker 23 (56:36):
And the ones here in North Carolina that were pardoned
were named Crispy and cream.
Speaker 7 (56:40):
Oh well, you know what, he got pardoned, so he's
not gonna be crispy but.
Speaker 4 (56:44):
Texas and a couple of text line here we go.
Adam says, you guys are off the chain in rare
form today, making my morning full of laughter, loving it.
Hopefully you have a blessed Thanksgiving, So thanks to Adam.
We also got one from Raleigh.
Speaker 15 (56:58):
Who was you know?
Speaker 4 (56:58):
I forgot to something that said earlier? He said, Bo,
don't worry, you're great. You're hosting is awesome. Answering text
and still hearing almost everything that happened, and of course
I'm going when have I ever answered a text?
Speaker 2 (57:11):
How do you do?
Speaker 6 (57:12):
Fellow kids?
Speaker 4 (57:12):
Heard of morning? How are you doing all right?
Speaker 2 (57:14):
Sir? Good morning from News Talk eleven ten and ninety
nine three w ptsh that's not a good thing.
Speaker 4 (57:22):
Have you thought about moving?
Speaker 2 (57:24):
This is Good Morning Beat with Bo Thompson and Beth Troutman.
Speaker 7 (57:28):
I found you to my horseshoes again, my horseshit.
Speaker 20 (57:35):
I'm off to see the wizard.
Speaker 2 (57:41):
Bring me the room.
Speaker 3 (57:42):
That was a wickeded wish I was a whist.
Speaker 20 (57:45):
Also, they're coming for you.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
This is between a wizard.
Speaker 27 (57:54):
Can I.
Speaker 2 (57:56):
Run you peg? You get tickets now?
Speaker 4 (58:00):
But a wicked thing.
Speaker 3 (58:05):
To make me a dream of you?
Speaker 2 (58:11):
Lot of falling?
Speaker 4 (58:15):
Who's talking? Eleven to ten? WBT know this song is
not on the soundtrack. It's kind of a mashup.
Speaker 7 (58:23):
It's brilliant, brilliant producing man.
Speaker 4 (58:26):
Wicked for Good in theaters now a hit over the weekend,
And Sean O'Connell from CBR joins us right now, Deputy editor.
Happy almost thanksgiving to you.
Speaker 13 (58:37):
The way you didn't know that Chris Isaac has a
cameo in Wicked, Well, you're right, I haven't seen the
movie and you have sopoiler for anybody I let them discover.
Speaker 4 (58:49):
Well, look, I actually saw you on WC and C
a few days ago talking about Wicked for Good. You
saw it this weekend. Look for anybody who says that
big franchise MOVI always can't bring people to the movie
theaters anymore post pandemic, Boy did they ever this past weekend.
Speaker 13 (59:06):
Yeah, And the thing is, we need more of these,
Like the Hollywood studios have pulled back significantly, unless it's
some type of ip you know that that drives people
to the theaters. But when I went to the theaters
this weekend, I went on Saturday afternoon to go see Wicked, and.
Speaker 11 (59:23):
I was just so.
Speaker 13 (59:26):
Empowered by seeing people dressing up, you know, and coming
to the theater dressed like witches, moms bringing daughters, you know,
who were dressed like Alphaba and Glinda, and they turned
it into an event and it was awesome. Like I
miss those days of people going to the theaters to
go see some of the big things that are out there.
And it's not because of a lack of effort or trying,
(59:48):
but on the audience's part, it's because there's been nothing
to see. Like, if you guys asked me what else
to go see in theaters, I would struggle because the
better stuff is on streaming and that's been a choice
by the industry.
Speaker 7 (01:00:00):
So what did you overall think of this second part
of Wicked? And had you seen the stage musical?
Speaker 13 (01:00:07):
Yeah, so I have seen the stage musical Beth, And
so for anybody who has seen the show. They know
that Act two just is not as strong as Act one. Right.
Act one has all the bangers, it has popular it
has define gravity, and there's a beautiful song in Act
two called for Good, which you know, when the girls
get a chance to sing it, it's beautiful. But this
(01:00:28):
second story is more subdued. It's more serious. It ties
in some of the elements of the Wizard of Oz,
but it's a bit more somber. And so while nothing drops,
I'm not saying, like, the production values are still incredible.
The costumes are great, the two performers are amazing in it.
Because they shot these movies back to back, so you're
(01:00:49):
essentially just getting a continuation of the first movie. It's
just that the material is not quite as strong as
the first movie. And so, you know, I think it's
a great continuation of the first film, and I'm glad
that they both existed. I was thinking about this, like,
could they have done this as one movie? I don't
(01:01:09):
think so. I think that there's still enough there that
you had to turn it into two films. But by
nature of the design of the show, Act two is
always going to be a little bit more of a
letdown than Act one, and so you know, I left
both of them thinking that the first one is much
better than the second.
Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
Well, you know, there's a variety story out this week
that the headline is the Wicked sequels are being figured
out at Universal Pictures. Things are underway to see how
they can continue in this universe. And obviously these two
movies they flow right into one of the most famous
movies and stories of all time, The Wizard of Oz.
(01:01:44):
And I was thinking about it's obviously a huge cash
cow franchise and people love it. So what do they
do next? Do they remake The Wizard of Oz with
now the characters that you know from these previous two movies,
or do they do some sort of alternate universe or maybe,
as Beth was saying to me off the air, do
they do like that? Do they make the Wizard of
(01:02:05):
Oz from the different perspective? What's the next step here?
Because you know we know how Hollywood works. This made
a ton of money. They're going to do something else.
Speaker 13 (01:02:13):
Yeah, this this stinks of the Fantastic Beasts and where
to find them? Franchise, Like, how do we get more
Harry Potter money out of it? Well, you don't you
go find the next original thing that people are gonna like, Like,
it's rare that that you're able to squeeze, you know,
something successful that's a spin off or you know, for
(01:02:34):
every Frasier you know, which is a great spinoff of Cheers,
you have umpty and examples of oh they liked this,
let's give them, you know, Hobbs and Shaw that's spun
off of the Fast and Period franchise, which isn't a
good franchise to begin with. So I think they need
to stop, you know, pump their brakes on that idea,
because that's that's silly. Go find something else that could
(01:02:56):
be the next Wicked because there's you know, plenty of
original ideas out there. We don't need to we don't
need to try to ring the sponge a little bit
more to get something that people might show up to
because it has, like from the world of Wicked attached
to it.
Speaker 7 (01:03:10):
Well, speaking of franchises, the President of the United States
may have reignited a franchise with the Rush Hour Rush
Hour four possibility now Warner Brothers apparently rushing into development
because the President said that they should bring that movie
franchise back. The Chris Tucker Jackie Chan franchise. The last
(01:03:30):
I think Rush Hour three was released in two thousand
and seven, so almost twenty years ago.
Speaker 13 (01:03:37):
Man, of all the things he could have asked for, I.
Speaker 7 (01:03:40):
Know, I kind of wish he had asked for, you know,
like a sequel to Better.
Speaker 13 (01:03:44):
Off Dead right, or anything like Leave a Weapon five,
you know, like the amazing Spider Man three with Andrew
Garfield would have been incredible. I don't understand the Rush
Hour that's a little strange. I think Jackie Chan's very
old now at this point. So the Karate Kid movie
that they just released recently, I'm not quite sure how
much action Jackie Chan is going to be doing. But yeah,
(01:04:06):
that's uh, that's a strange story that the president can
can come up with a sequel idea that he would
like and that that the studio would actually say, yeah,
we should do that and move ahead with it. But
I don't know, We'll see. There's a there's a bunch
of things that have been announced over the years that
kind of die on the vine, and this feels like
one of those ones that's going to do that. Brett Ratner,
(01:04:26):
the director of that franchise, he's not a really good dude.
Speaker 7 (01:04:29):
Yeah, he's had a lot of a lot of troubled headlines.
Speaker 13 (01:04:33):
Yeah, and so h yeah, I don't think we're going
back to that franchise. Let me put some money down
on the facts that that movie will probably never happen,
but I think it made a few headlines and then
it's gonna it's gonna disappear.
Speaker 4 (01:04:43):
Pre President Trump pardons Chris Tucker's career. Now you mentioned
you mentioned streaming, and people are headed towards streaming.
Speaker 24 (01:04:52):
We're really starting to lose that being stuck in here,
no end in sight. Maybe tonight is our break, you
find fact though, we end this once and for all together.
Speaker 4 (01:05:15):
So tonight Stranger Things Again. Season five, the final season
on Netflix. If you're wondering why is it not on
Netflix yet, it's the twenty six debuts at eight pm tonight.
Speaker 11 (01:05:27):
So here.
Speaker 4 (01:05:28):
What they're gonna do is just so you get your
bearings here. First four episodes of season five are tonight,
then the next three episodes release on Christmas Day at
eight pm, and then the final releases the finale, I
should say, on New Year's Eve at eight pm. This
is you know, what started as is kind of a
cool novelty trip back to the eighties now as a huge,
(01:05:50):
major budget. I mean, this is basically the franchise on
Netflix and it closes out starting tonight. Sean O'Connell.
Speaker 13 (01:05:58):
Yeah, I'll be tuned in. And the thing is every
episode is essentially like a movie, right, They're all close
to ninety minutes or two hours from what I understand,
So brace yourself, you know, settle in, see where it goes.
I hope they have a last time on Stranger Things
because I could really use a recap. I'm not one
hundred percent everything that happened the last time, but I'll
(01:06:22):
see it through. I'll see where it goes. I'm excited
for it. And this is the new Netflix strategy of
how they break things up. They did this with Cobra
Kai also, where they take a full season, break it
up into three chunks, and then stretch it out as
long as they can. But I don't know, I haven't
seen anything about it. They've been pretty secretive about where
it's going, and so we'll all get to watch together.
Speaker 4 (01:06:41):
You know.
Speaker 7 (01:06:41):
I feel bad for the little town in Georgia where
this was shot because it has become a huge tourist destination.
And after Stranger Things goes away because this is the
final chapter, then you know that I wonder if the
tourism will stay hoppin there in the fake Hawkins, I
guess I don't know what state they're in in the
the maybe better than Indianna is Indiana? Idew it was Hawkins.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (01:07:04):
It just cracks me up that, like this has taken
so long to tell this story, that Millie Bobby Brown,
who obviously is eleven in the movie in the show,
now is married with children like her and John bon
Jovi's kid got married and they've adopted their own jobs.
So now she's a mom, and we got to go
back and hop into the show and believe that she's
(01:07:26):
still this teenager trying to fight off fight off some
evil supernatural woman.
Speaker 7 (01:07:31):
If you put her next to Elizabeth Perkins in Big
they are identical twins. Have you ever put them side
by side?
Speaker 4 (01:07:38):
I ever even thought about that.
Speaker 7 (01:07:39):
But now that I picked Billie Bobby Brown and Elizabeth
Perkins are like, it's the same person, just thirty years difference.
Speaker 4 (01:07:45):
Does that mean that we should start calling her ten? Anyway?
One last thing before I let you go. Zootopia two
also opens today speaking of things that it's been like
a million years since the first one.
Speaker 13 (01:07:58):
I didn't get a chance to see this one. They
didn't screen it for ship and I'm definitely gonna go
out of my way to see it because I love
the first one and the reviews on this one are
really strong, and I thought the first one was really
super original and funny, and I love Jason Bateman who
voices the main character. So yeah, I think for families,
if you want to give this one a shot, it's
out there now, and based on what I've read about it,
(01:08:20):
I can recommend it.
Speaker 4 (01:08:21):
Well, look, happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Always
good to talk to you, and we'll talk to you
between now and the end of the year, because we've
got some other big ones coming up. But thanks for
all that you do.
Speaker 7 (01:08:32):
Thank you guys, be well, We're so thankful for you.
Speaker 6 (01:08:34):
Sean, Thank you, Beth.
Speaker 9 (01:08:36):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 26 (01:08:38):
Money, and you came down here to get a hot story,
didn't you pictures of me to send you a lousy newspaper?
Speaker 6 (01:08:48):
Frank, sure you think I'm a big hero of the
man of the r.
Speaker 26 (01:08:51):
Well, well do anything you understand how.
Speaker 6 (01:08:54):
A man can hurt it? Time Frank they're not here
for you.
Speaker 3 (01:08:59):
We're to Al Jankovicna's on the plane.
Speaker 4 (01:09:08):
Now, this is interesting. We were just talking to Sean
O'Connell and I did not get to this. But Variety
has released their top twenty greatest comedies of all time,
and I'll just give you We don't have time to
get into the meat of this, but i'll give you
a real quick top ten. Number ten, Groundhog Day, number nine,
(01:09:28):
Young Frankenstein Fargo is number eight, Duck Soup is number seven.
Duck Soup, never heard of it, Monty Python in the
Holy Grail number six, Waiting for Guffman.
Speaker 7 (01:09:40):
Oh, so good it is.
Speaker 4 (01:09:41):
I'm surprised that it's that high on this list, though,
because a lot of people don't even know what that is.
The Great Dictator is number four, Annie Hall is number three,
Some Like It Hot is number two, and number one
The Naked Gun. Now this is not the one with
Liam Neeson that just came out. It's the one with
Leslie Nielsen back in what eighty eight, eighty nine or so,
(01:10:04):
I think that's when that was. But they say that
is the number one comedy of all time.
Speaker 7 (01:10:09):
I will tell you what. I'm disappointed. By though not
in the top ten, which I think should be. I
think should be in the top five. Airplane airplane made.
They have a longer list, a top one hundred list.
Airplane was number sixty two, and I feel like airplane
was kind of the jumping off point for shows like
The Police Squad and the movie Naked Gun, and Leslie
(01:10:31):
Nielsen was even in Airplane. And they had that guy
that was like the assistant that worked at the airport,
and you know, they hand him a piece of paper
and they're like, what do you make of this? And
he looks at it and he says, of this, I
could make a head or a branch, even a tarodactyl.
Speaker 4 (01:10:47):
I don't have the whole list. Where's the first vacation movie?
Speaker 7 (01:10:50):
I don't even have. I don't have the vacation.
Speaker 4 (01:10:52):
Listed Christmas Vacation for that matter. Both those should be
in this.
Speaker 7 (01:10:55):
The water Boy is at number fifty being John Malkovich
is at fifty one one, Like you said, Fargo's at
number eight. Let's see. I don't even see Vaked water Boy.
Speaker 4 (01:11:05):
Gray Movie, water Boys, Timeless Bobby, not much going on
in that. Madula Imbogada Let's.
Speaker 7 (01:11:13):
See is at number twelve Playtime, so vacation didn't even
make the top twenty. The Heartbreak Kids seventeen.
Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
This lest is canceled.
Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
This is Good Morning BET.
Speaker 4 (01:11:29):
Eight thirty eight on WBT. It is the day before
the day Thanksgiving tomorrow. We will be off tomorrow and
on Friday, So this is our final show for the week,
final show for November.
Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
For that matter.
Speaker 7 (01:11:44):
Oh my gosh, you're right.
Speaker 4 (01:11:46):
When we come back, it will be December. That's how
the calendar works. Traffic chat coming up, and right now,
let's go to the WBT hotline and welcome from Winthrop University.
He is doctor Scott Huffman, political science professor who joins
US weekly.
Speaker 9 (01:12:00):
Good morning, sir, Good morning hope, y'all are planning on
having a great Thankgiving.
Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
We are everybody cleared out there yet.
Speaker 9 (01:12:09):
Probably there are no classes today, so I've been home
so far today, so I assume they are all either
escaping or hold up in their dorms so they don't
have to see extended family one where.
Speaker 4 (01:12:25):
Well, look, we have some headlines to get to here.
We have not talked to you since a big happening
late last week, and it's something that if you go
back six months or a year you could never have
seen coming. I don't think. But Marjorie Taylor Green one
of the most outspoken supporters of President Trump, especially in
the you know, version two point zero in his re election.
(01:12:46):
But Marjorie Taylor Green is exiting Congress at the end
of the year. We knew last time we talked to
you that there were you know, that the relationship was fracturing.
But I don't know that I would have said, Okay,
she's going to be gone before her term is up.
What are your thoughts on where that relationship has gone.
Speaker 9 (01:13:05):
No, I didn't have that on my Bengo card either.
You know, obviously it's gone south. She will exit Congress
just coincidentally after her pension would kick in. She has
been a supporter of releasing the Epstein files, which caused
Trump to vehemently turn against her, say he would support
(01:13:28):
a primary against her. And then, of course, you know
they signed the bill to release the Epstein files. Well, no,
they kind of didn't because they left a massive loophole
that all they have to say is, hey, these particular
files involve a current investigation. We're not releasing those. So
it's sort of a little bit more of smoke and
(01:13:48):
mirrors than anything. But she is also part of the
America First coalition, and this was part of Trump's winning
coalition that said, we need to be more isolated, we
need to stop being the policeman of the world, we
need to stop international intervention. And here in the second
Trump administration that has not been the rule of the day.
(01:14:09):
He has traveled more internationally already than he did at
this time actually, and a little after in his first term,
he's talking about possibly even invading Venezuela. He's getting involved
in Russia and Ukraine. He's been to the Mideast, he's
been to the Far East, and the America First people
(01:14:31):
are sort of scratching their heads saying, this is not
what we signed up for. So Marjorie Taylor Green is
kind of getting it from both ends, viciously attacked over
her support of releasing the Epstein files all along and
her America First leadings are being pushed.
Speaker 7 (01:14:49):
Now as she has made that announcement, she has also
taken to social media to confirm a report that came
out from Jake Sherman, who is a journal who is
the co founder of punch Bowl News. He released shortly
after Marjorie Taylor Green resigned. He released a story saying
that there are other Republicans in Congress who are also
(01:15:11):
considering leaving their post early as a result of feeling
like they can't get anything done, that nothing is happening,
and that they're not able to do their jobs of
creating legislation that represents the people they were voted to represent.
She said that that story is in fact true, that
she's been hearing that over and over again. Do you
(01:15:33):
think that that actually could be a thing that we
may before the twenty twenty six midterms see people resigning.
Speaker 9 (01:15:41):
Well, definitely they could if they see handwriting on the
wall that says, hey, I'm going to lose my seat
because the the people in my district are angry at
Trump and or Trump's going to push somebody to primary me.
You know, whether or not they're actually going to jump
out is a different question. Saying they're doing it because
(01:16:03):
they can't get any legislation done is not exactly true,
because the past several Congresses have passed virtually no actual bills.
I mean go back and literally count and hardly anything
has gotten past. These have all been for the past decade.
Actually a bunch of do nothing congresses simply because of
(01:16:26):
the polarization. So saying this one is magically doing less
than the last one and the one before that and
the one before that is not actually true. It is
true they can't get anything done. It's not true that
this is something different.
Speaker 4 (01:16:39):
Another big story this week involves Senator Mark Kelly and
that group of lawmakers that appeared in that video urging
members of the military and intelligence community not to follow
quote illegal orders unquote, and of course President Trump basically
went scorched earth on truth social you know, suggesting that
(01:16:59):
these are seditious acts, etc. What's your thoughts on where
this story's going.
Speaker 9 (01:17:05):
Well, he could have let that one just sort of
fall by the wayside. Now everybody is googling the Uniform
Code of Military Justice Article ninety two, which basically says
an order is unlawful if it violates the Constitution, US
laws or military regulations, and even if it directs a
(01:17:26):
service member to commit a crime or unethical act, it
is an unlawful order. So that exists. That's completely real,
completely true, And all Trump had to do was let
it slide and not say anything untrue social and now
you know, people are saying, oh, we're going to prosecute
(01:17:46):
these folks, and even conservatives are popping up and saying, well,
wait a minute, the you know, Code to Military Justice,
Uniform Code military Justice actually does say this, and film
saying out loud, don't commit it legal orders that in
and of itself is not sedition. And so you know,
the argument of oh, we're going to call him back
the service because we can prosecute them with a court martial,
(01:18:10):
then that's mainly because you could not prosecute them as
a civilian with this at all. So that is really interesting.
It's fired up a controversy that just didn't have to
be and is now having a lot of people saying, huh,
are these attacks on Venezuelan boats really necessary? And gee,
(01:18:32):
I've never even thought about it. Are they actually legal?
This is a controversy that didn't have to happen.
Speaker 6 (01:18:37):
We have to stop it.
Speaker 18 (01:18:38):
There.
Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
We appreciate your time as always, and hope you have
a very happy Thanksgiving and we'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 9 (01:18:44):
All right, Hope y'all have a wonderful lot of today
as well.
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
This is good Morning GT with both Humbson and Beth Trout.
Speaker 20 (01:18:51):
Bastudy is Jimmy walk.
Speaker 19 (01:19:05):
Used the same time a duck right, turkey, Wait, gravy
and cranberry. I can't believe the Mets traded gallows strawberry.
Speaker 4 (01:19:18):
You and I are getting destroyed on the text line.
I kind of figured this might happen when we talked
about Duck Soup.
Speaker 7 (01:19:27):
Yeah, we were talking about the fact that Variety has
listed their top one hundred comedies of all time. We
went through the top ten, number one being Naked Gun,
but number five was duck Soup. And when Bo said
duck Souper, I was like, duck soup and Bo and
I did not know duck Soup. I was thinking, Howard
the duck I see? And I was too, And which
(01:19:49):
tells you our age.
Speaker 4 (01:19:50):
It tells you exactly how old. And you know, I'm
not saying that Duck Soup wasn't a great movie. It's Mark.
Speaker 7 (01:19:57):
So we've gotten about one hundred texts letting us know
that it is a black and white Marx Brothers movie
sans Carl Marx. But Jeff's is my favorite. He said,
Duck Soup is a black and white movie by the
Marx Brothers, not including Carl, and then he added, history
does not begin when one becomes aware of it at first,
(01:20:19):
and this tells you everything you need to know about
the people in this room too, because I read it like, haha,
Jeff's so funny, but apparently it's not a good movie,
like history doesn't begin when you become aware of duc soup.
Like I totally took it as a funny remark, and
Bo was like, no, Bath, I think it's a job.
I think it's a job that history exists even when
(01:20:41):
you aren't aware of it, which is often a phrase
that is used by people who talk about younger generations
not knowing and understanding the importance of history.
Speaker 4 (01:20:51):
I have utmost respect for the earlier generations. I worked
at this radio station for a long long time where
I was way out of the demo. Oh, I mean
I walked around with you guys know how old I
was when I started working here, and they talked about
things that I had no clue about. But then I've
been here long enough that I've I've graduated into the demo.
Speaker 7 (01:21:09):
It's funny. I have never I've seen some like it hot,
which is not long to Robert Palmer song the power Station,
not that, not that some might it hot.
Speaker 4 (01:21:23):
Jack Lemon.
Speaker 7 (01:21:24):
It's hilarious and not far removed in years from Let's see,
when did duck soup come out? Versus versus some like
it hot? So when did some like it hot come
out in the fifteen.
Speaker 4 (01:21:33):
Well, Steve says thirty three, like you were born.
Speaker 7 (01:21:35):
Well he knew so you nineteen fifty nine.
Speaker 4 (01:21:42):
I'm an old soul. Though you are an old soul.
Speaker 15 (01:21:44):
Steve is eighty five years old.
Speaker 4 (01:21:46):
I look, I'm not saying I think it's funny, like
it probably makes it worse for the people who saying
how they not know what duck soup is? That You
and I both made, Oh, Howard the Duck.
Speaker 7 (01:21:56):
We both thought Howard the Duck.
Speaker 6 (01:21:57):
I was like, was that?
Speaker 7 (01:21:58):
Is that a duck? Like a equal?
Speaker 4 (01:22:00):
Which is not one of the gems from our generation. Yeah,
that was probably one of the worst movies ever from
our generation.
Speaker 7 (01:22:07):
If Leah Thomas could undo any film that she ever did,
it would probably be that one, because like Space Camp Awesome,
Back to the Future, Thompson, isn't it Leah Thompson, you.
Speaker 4 (01:22:16):
Were waiting for me to Yeah, correct, I saw you.
Speaker 7 (01:22:19):
I saw your face, Leah Thompson. But there were some
creative moments in Howard the Duck.
Speaker 4 (01:22:27):
I'm trying to remember one.
Speaker 7 (01:22:28):
Not one of the best comedies of all time. I
always thought it was funny that he was in the
bathtub reading play Duck and it was a bunch of
naked ducks.
Speaker 4 (01:22:35):
That's like the only scene I can remember always reading.
And everybody knows you read that for the Wildlife.
Speaker 7 (01:22:45):
Articles of course, right the articles on on the pitchers. Also,
Howard the Duck's planet had two moons.
Speaker 15 (01:22:52):
There were two moons.
Speaker 7 (01:22:52):
I remember that.
Speaker 4 (01:22:53):
We've obviously seen it more than once.
Speaker 1 (01:22:55):
Oh I have.
Speaker 7 (01:22:55):
I saw Howard the Duck quite a few times.
Speaker 4 (01:22:57):
Well, as we head to the top of the hour.
On the other side, we'll meet a guy named Jack Burns.
In the meantime, enjoy some power stations I so love.
Speaker 13 (01:23:05):
You some.
Speaker 2 (01:23:23):
From News Talk eleven and ninety nine three double Beans.
Speaker 4 (01:23:27):
You know, the energy in this place is just amazing,
pure energy.
Speaker 2 (01:23:30):
This is Good Morning Beatty with Bo Thompson and Beth Trout.
Speaker 4 (01:23:34):
With What I'm talking about is the pulse of the collection,
a little percussion. It is coming up here just a
few hours away from any novant health Thanksgiving Eve parade
and uptown Charlotte and we have in studio. This is
(01:23:56):
pretty cool, Beth Troutman. We have someone who is going
to be in the parade tonight performing.
Speaker 7 (01:24:02):
And I love that we are at the point now
that the Novonte Parade is such a big deal that
we have live performances. Who needs the Macy's Thanksgiving Day
Parade when you can have our parade here in the
Charlotte area.
Speaker 4 (01:24:13):
Like to welcome to the studio a name that you're
gonna know really, really well if you don't already, because
that's how it rolls here on the fifty thousand watch.
I was just talking to him about the first time
the Avitt Brothers appeared on this station with John Hancock
all those years ago. And if you don't know Jack Burns,
you need to welcome to the studio. Howdy howdy, good
to see you.
Speaker 15 (01:24:32):
Good seeing you.
Speaker 4 (01:24:33):
So you are going to be performing tonight. And first
of all, this is not too far away from where
you grew up as well.
Speaker 15 (01:24:40):
Not at all. No, I was from Concord. Yeah wait a.
Speaker 7 (01:24:44):
Minute, so you moved from Concord to Albumarle Oh yeah,
how old were you when you moved? I was like seven, Okay, okay,
because I'm from Concord. I'm from Concord originally, so it's
always nice to That's why we had a bond the
second you walked in. You're a fellow Concord right, there's
something in the water there.
Speaker 15 (01:25:02):
Oh yeah, from McKinnon Avenue. Oh oh my gosh, okay
down there?
Speaker 7 (01:25:06):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, I know exactly where you're from,
and you now are in the album Marle Area.
Speaker 4 (01:25:11):
But you are a.
Speaker 7 (01:25:13):
Performing musician who has connections all over the country and
now basically headlining the parade.
Speaker 15 (01:25:20):
Yeah, it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (01:25:22):
So Jack, how did it come to be that you
got involved with this particular parade tonight? Is this one
that you knew growing up from where you were in Albemarle.
I mean, this is the biggest one, I think in
North Carolina.
Speaker 28 (01:25:34):
Well, I didn't really know this parade until I met
a manager out in LA named Jeff Sheen, and he
ended up trying to get me some things going on
in Charlotte because you knew us from here, and he
ended up getting a spot in the parade. I'm like, great,
you know, and I tried to get more info on
it and then it was like two weeks later he
had passed away, and it was Yeah, it was just wild.
Speaker 15 (01:25:57):
So I ended up getting contact with everybody and I'm
still on.
Speaker 28 (01:26:02):
I was like, thank God, and I think about him
every day because it's an amazing opportunity.
Speaker 7 (01:26:07):
Well, the fact that the parade is televised, but you
have so many people who line the streets to watch
the parade along the parade route. I think people would
love knowing that you aren't just It's not like you're
just walking the streets and then stopping somewhere to perform.
You're on a float performing a song. So it's like
a moving stage going down the going down the parade route,
(01:26:29):
and you're performing on it pretty much the entire parade.
Speaker 15 (01:26:32):
Yeah, and I found out last night.
Speaker 28 (01:26:34):
I'm on the ACC football float, which is a giant
football field. This is the first time they've done this one,
and so I'm excited to see that tonight.
Speaker 7 (01:26:44):
So are you ready for some football?
Speaker 4 (01:26:46):
Well, the ACC Football Championship is going to be played
at Bank of America Stadium coming up in just a
few days, so that's a big important float to be on. Now,
tell us about you and your start music, what kind
of music you play. We're actually going to hear it
because you're gonna perform for us in our next segment
in a few minutes. You get a preview of what
you're gonna see performed in the parade tonight. But you
(01:27:07):
mentioned album Marl, so you're you're a North Carolina guy.
Oh what kind of music? What inspired you to start?
Tell us about you?
Speaker 28 (01:27:15):
Well, my mother was always playing music in the car,
and you know, like the Beatles and Fats Domino, and
ever since I was a little kid, I knew that,
you know, something was clicking and this is what I
wanted to do, and so now I get to do it.
I play a lot of instruments all my stuff, and
my favorite genres are like pop rock, R and B funk,
(01:27:35):
that sort of thing, you know. I like to call
my genre alternative pop.
Speaker 7 (01:27:39):
Okay, And do you write your your own music? Do
you write original tunes?
Speaker 11 (01:27:44):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:27:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:27:46):
So who would you consider to be your inspirations to
get into this.
Speaker 28 (01:27:51):
I'd say to start out like, the Beatles was a
big inspiration, and I loved Michael Jackson growing up too,
and Prince was a big one because he played like
all the instruments and produced himself.
Speaker 15 (01:28:03):
So I was like Oh man, that's cool. I'd love
to do something like that.
Speaker 4 (01:28:07):
And if you had to say, where would you where
do you hope to see yourself in five years?
Speaker 28 (01:28:12):
I hope to reach a bigger platform and I'm hoping to,
you know, get these songs out there internationally and where
you know, my voice is heard.
Speaker 7 (01:28:20):
What's the hardest part about the music industry at this point?
Especially starting out in the music industry, as you get
opportunities like this one.
Speaker 15 (01:28:31):
I guess it's like like getting into the legitimacy area,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 28 (01:28:35):
You start out and you're like knocking on doors on
these restaurants like hey, can I play it your little
chicken shack? You know, like that sort of thing, and
then you know, eventually you kind of work your way
into okay, yeah he can play at this venue in
this thing, and we're just starting to roll.
Speaker 15 (01:28:49):
So it's great.
Speaker 7 (01:28:50):
And do you have you recorded albums here locally? And
when you do, do you produce most of the stuff?
Speaker 18 (01:28:55):
I do.
Speaker 15 (01:28:56):
I did my first album in Spencer, North Carolina.
Speaker 4 (01:29:00):
Yeah, wait a minute, you didn't. I'm just gonna I'm
gonna go on a limb here. You didn't record it?
Hit music Incorporated.
Speaker 15 (01:29:06):
Did you Oh yeah, you did.
Speaker 9 (01:29:08):
I did.
Speaker 4 (01:29:08):
And you know Jim Mosher then, oh yeah, okay, good
friend of mine. Ah see, I took a shot in
the dark. But I know that I know the best
studio in Spencer and I've been to it many times.
And it's a guy named Jim Mosher who used to
do a lot of music. You know, the Morning Buzz song.
Speaker 15 (01:29:21):
Yeah, yeah, he did that.
Speaker 4 (01:29:23):
Anyway, that's neither here nor there, but that's cool. So
tell Jim, I said hello, And I'll tell you something
that if Jim is produced in your stuff, then you
got the right guy in your in your corner. Now.
Speaker 15 (01:29:34):
He's awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:29:35):
He So we talk about performing tonight in a parade.
Uh so you're you're you're performing on something that's moving.
It's a little bit different of a venue tonight, and
uh so, will you be performing like like I know
with the Macy's Parade and I know that w CCB
that which produces this tonight. You know it'll be on
on their station that you watch and then there'll be
(01:29:56):
parts where you see people doing stationary things. Are you
moving a whole time or do you do you get
off and like go to a stage at some point,
and what have they told you about how it's all
gonna work logistically.
Speaker 28 (01:30:06):
So at six twenty South, try on. All the floats
are gonna well, when the floats get there, they're gonna
stop and then uh, people are gonna perform their song.
Speaker 15 (01:30:16):
So I'll stop right there. I'll start performing my.
Speaker 28 (01:30:18):
Song and then they're gonna hold out something and say, hey,
hold on to something because we're gonna move. And it's
like a tractor move and it's not like a tesla,
you know what I mean. It's gonna yeah, it's gonna jerk. Yeah,
So I'll be holding on and then.
Speaker 4 (01:30:32):
You'll have to you have to get good at waving too, right,
because oh, you're not performing. Beth knows the waves.
Speaker 7 (01:30:36):
She's been in parab Yeah, if you and you probably
should get some candy maybe to throw toward not at
the kids, toward the kids, you know, some fun Christmas
candy to throw toward the kids.
Speaker 4 (01:30:47):
Right, so you know you're in the parade tonight. Now
this is a cool thing now because it used to
be that the Novont parade was on Thanksgiving Day and
now they moved it about what five years ago or
so to the night before.
Speaker 7 (01:30:58):
Yeah, it used to be the carousel, the care Alina's
Carousel parade.
Speaker 4 (01:31:02):
So do you do you spend tomorrow with your family?
Speaker 2 (01:31:04):
What do you do?
Speaker 7 (01:31:05):
Uh?
Speaker 28 (01:31:05):
Yeah, tomorrow, I'll spend it with the family. You know,
just have our regular Thanksgiving meal at home.
Speaker 7 (01:31:10):
So that'd be so after you were a superstar in
a parade, performing on live television, then just just go
back to the normal Turkey day.
Speaker 15 (01:31:17):
Yeah, yeah, take a little break.
Speaker 4 (01:31:18):
We were talking about Thanksgiving a meal conversation starters. So
you know, if you're Jack, you're like, hey, y, what'd
you do yesterday?
Speaker 18 (01:31:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:31:26):
Exactly, Well I was making a castle role.
Speaker 2 (01:31:29):
You know what I did?
Speaker 7 (01:31:29):
I performed live on a flute in a parade.
Speaker 4 (01:31:31):
And speaking of that, when we come back, Jack's going
to perform for us here in the Tyboid studio. Give
you a taste of what you'll see if you go
to the parade tonight, which steps off at five thirty.
The floats will move from the Hall Marshall Annex to
a Tryon Street and then parade ends at eight o'clock tonight.
So if you're going tonight, you're actually gonna hear somebody
(01:31:51):
who's going to be in it. Just wanted to hey
and thoroughly enjoy the show.
Speaker 7 (01:31:55):
Thank you for taking the time to call in.
Speaker 9 (01:31:57):
Well, y'all, keep worried, done a great job.
Speaker 4 (01:32:00):
Thank you man, Keep on keeping on.
Speaker 2 (01:32:02):
This is Good Morning Beat with booing path.
Speaker 4 (01:32:07):
The Novont Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade steps off at five
point thirty this afternoon. We watch it live on WCCB.
Our friends over at Bay Hackle will be broadcasting the parade,
and that, as I said, begins at six and you
can find them on cable channel eleven. Parade route begins
(01:32:29):
at Ninth Street and ends at Good Samaritan Way along
Tryon Street. And one of the performers is in studio
with us today. Jack Burns, is a recording artist and
is joining us here in the Tyboid studio and actually
is going to play a song for us right now.
Speaker 15 (01:32:46):
Oh yeah, let's do it.
Speaker 7 (01:32:48):
What's the name of the song and is this an original?
Speaker 15 (01:32:50):
Oh yeah, it's my new single. It's called let Go
of Your Love?
Speaker 4 (01:32:54):
Has this ever been heard on the radio before? No,
Here we go a world premiere here on Good Morning.
Speaker 15 (01:33:00):

Speaker 11 (01:33:19):

Speaker 3 (01:33:22):

Speaker 2 (01:33:23):
Looking at the flowers?
Speaker 21 (01:33:26):
Still like seeing the father?
Speaker 16 (01:33:28):
Color diffuse my imagination's power. You standing in the corner,
look like a little mystery. I don't make you feel
lack a phoner. I'm a mystery terrilla fantasy.
Speaker 3 (01:33:48):
Then go in, then go.
Speaker 2 (01:33:56):
Let go.
Speaker 1 (01:34:00):
Your love.
Speaker 16 (01:34:03):
Lo didn't mean to come across the bower. I don't
spect to swing out of the park. Baby, I can
handle on the bases. We can take the dog out
(01:34:25):
of the dark.
Speaker 3 (01:34:26):
There go you, then go you let go You, then
go you.
Speaker 1 (01:34:40):
No, They go you long no love, Then go your
love no love love, then go you love no no no,
they go you love no love love Lo.
Speaker 4 (01:35:07):
Whoa, Ladies and gentlemen, Jack Burns live and for the
first time on the radio here on WBT. He'll be
performing tonight live on WCCB. And if you're going to
attend the parade, the Novant Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade
taking place in uptown Charlotte.
Speaker 3 (01:35:25):
That was great.
Speaker 18 (01:35:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:35:26):
Is that a song you're playing tonight on the float?
Speaker 15 (01:35:29):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (01:35:29):
Oh, so people are not only going to get to
hear it, they're going to get to see you in
action on the acc Float tonight live on television.
Speaker 15 (01:35:38):
Oh yeah, and the full version too. This is just acoustic.
Speaker 7 (01:35:41):
Well, and you are. Oh wait, wait wait, does that
mean you have a band on the float with you
as well?
Speaker 18 (01:35:46):
No?
Speaker 7 (01:35:46):
Unfortunately not okay, okay, but just a fuller, a fuller,
instrumental filled version of it.
Speaker 15 (01:35:52):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 7 (01:35:53):
Well you're a fantastic guitar player, thank you. You kind
of have some John Mayer going on with the fingerwork.
Speaker 6 (01:35:58):
A little bit.
Speaker 15 (01:35:59):
Yeah, I love him.
Speaker 4 (01:36:00):
Yeah, So tell us about that song. How did that
song come to be? How did you come to write
that song?
Speaker 6 (01:36:05):
Well?
Speaker 28 (01:36:06):
Actually I heard about the parade coming up and it
was like, okay, well maybe I should write something for
the parade, you know that I'd like to, you know, perform,
you know, it's something dancy, and so I thought of this.
Speaker 4 (01:36:18):
So you wrote the song for tonight. That's pretty cool.
Speaker 7 (01:36:20):
Yeah, what's your inspiration? I mean, you have a I'm
probably gonna embarrass you right now. You have a beautiful
girlfriend who is here in this studio with you. Is
she a muse for you for a lot of the songwriting?
Speaker 15 (01:36:31):
Oh definitely.
Speaker 4 (01:36:33):
Well, look tonight you can see more of Jack at
the parade. Now. If people want to learn more about
your music, if they want to learn more about you,
and what do they do. Where can they go?
Speaker 28 (01:36:45):
Well, you can follow me on Instagram It's Jack burn
Z b U r n z Y and my website
is Jackburns music dot com.
Speaker 4 (01:36:54):
Okay, so there you go.
Speaker 7 (01:36:55):
You heard it here first, and you can find out
because I know that you have some upcoming gigs here
around the Charlotte area, so that people can stay in
touch with you, find out how they can see you
live once they've seen you perform on the parade tonight.
Speaker 15 (01:37:08):
Oh yeah, I'll keep everybody posted.
Speaker 7 (01:37:10):
That's fantastic.
Speaker 4 (01:37:10):
And again just to catch people up, but who are
just joining us? Is Jack Burns he's performing tonight? You
called it an alternative pop right, Yes, he's performing tonight
in the parade. And again, you have albums out already
or is there more music that people can get in
one place or is it just songs?
Speaker 15 (01:37:29):
Where do you get that?
Speaker 4 (01:37:30):
You mentioned the website, but what can they get once
they go there?
Speaker 28 (01:37:33):
You can go on Apple Music, Spotify YouTube It's Jack
Burns and I've gotten all of them out and two
other new singles I released this year.
Speaker 7 (01:37:40):
Okay, wow, so I know that you have another single
potentially that you could play for us, and this will
be another world premiere, playing it for us right now, right.
Speaker 15 (01:37:50):
These ones came out like in March, so they're not
world premieres, but you.
Speaker 4 (01:37:56):
Know, like the old NBC promo, if you haven't heard
it yet, it's new to you.
Speaker 7 (01:38:00):
It's new to you.
Speaker 4 (01:38:01):
So hey, look, it's nice to meet you. Good luck tonight,
thank you coming in. And Jack is going to play
us out. He's going to play us to the news
here all right.
Speaker 15 (01:38:10):
This one's called say so.
Speaker 20 (01:38:31):
Spring us here, Babe. I thought you should know. We
wanted this flowers and miss su chant.
Speaker 29 (01:38:39):
And grow to stay the cold wind. Oh that we
even do. If it take me, maybe you will find
something new.
Speaker 20 (01:38:51):
Where a flying up. The hopes that we carry this?
Speaker 1 (01:38:58):
Oh oh this.
Speaker 29 (01:39:01):
Questions burned in my Mindy enough now I've got soon.
Speaker 21 (01:39:06):
Nope, there's a lot, got the time to take a
chance on the weaby.
Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
Come if you want.
Speaker 6 (01:39:16):
Oh you got to this so.
Speaker 20 (01:39:25):
Way a bed laid this stuck up the storm because
the feelings I got, Babe, can't be silace.
Speaker 29 (01:39:33):
No more way, A bad baby, a misunderstood.
Speaker 21 (01:39:40):
Don't give me the wide smile and tell me you good.
Speaker 20 (01:39:46):
There's a fighting up Bob hopes that me carry this.
Speaker 15 (01:39:55):
This questions burned in my Mindy enough now.
Speaker 21 (01:39:59):
Of God soon, No, there's a love, got the time
to go, take good chance with baby?
Speaker 15 (01:40:08):
Come and do you want?
Speaker 1 (01:40:10):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:40:10):
You got too?
Speaker 6 (01:40:14):
So all right?
Speaker 4 (01:40:18):
There he is, Yes, Jack Burns performing tonight Novant Health
Thanksgiving Eve Parade again. It steps off at five point thirty.
Coverage starts at six o'clock on WCCB, and the parade
route begins at Ninth Street, ends at Good Samaritan Way
along Tryon Street. Jack, it's great to meet you and
congratulate you.
Speaker 15 (01:40:37):
Good for having me.
Speaker 7 (01:40:38):
Yeah, good luck tonight, have so much fun and happy
holidays to you and your family.
Speaker 15 (01:40:43):
Thanks so much.
Speaker 4 (01:40:45):
News talk eleven to ten WBT. Let the band pass
real quick.
Speaker 30 (01:40:51):
I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways.
We could reverse the particle flow through the game. How
we'll cross the streets. He's welcome, Brett winter Bull.
Speaker 3 (01:41:08):
We know each other.
Speaker 4 (01:41:09):
He's a friend from war. Yeah, we're talking a little
bit later than normal, but better late than never. That's
what we say about our good buddy, Brett Winnable, who
joins us now a day before Turkey Day. Good morning,
my friend, Oh, good morning.
Speaker 11 (01:41:26):
It's good to be with you guys.
Speaker 4 (01:41:27):
So I got an I got a text from Brett.
I kind of figured that we would cross streams on
this story. I got a text from Brett at five
thirty eight as I'm driving into work today, Trump is
demanding Rush hour four. You know, all these all these
promises and all these things he said he would do.
We've finally gotten to the meat and potatoes of policymaking.
Speaker 7 (01:41:49):
We need more Jackie Chan.
Speaker 13 (01:41:52):
That's right, absolutely.
Speaker 7 (01:41:55):
But here's the thing. Here's the thing, Brett Winterble, he
says this that he wants more Rush our four. And
now the word is that Warner Brothers has gone into
overdrive trying because this is something that existed, this kind
of concept of a rush hour for but now they've
gone into overdrive to put this into development.
Speaker 11 (01:42:13):
Okay, so let's think about this for a second. And
I and I'm really fascinated by this because how many
people voted for Trump in this last election seventy million,
whatever is eighty million whatever it was. He's an influencer, right,
I mean, is it fair to say he's an influencer. Yeah,
he's gonna he's gonna pack the house. Everybody's gonna go
(01:42:36):
see it. Because of that purpose, even if he's not
in office anymore. But that's a pretty cool thing if
you think about it like I speak it, and it
becomes that is an awesome thing that I mean, that's
that's that's right on par with with Drink Tuesday or
whatever that is. And this is amazing.
Speaker 4 (01:42:53):
Well, and this is a I mean, Rush Hour is
the movie in particular that we're taking the franchise. But he, uh,
you know, he's buddies with people like Sylvester Stallone and
Mel Gibson and John Voight. But he repeatedly has said
that he wants to restore these types of movies back
into to pop culture. And look, as we were just
(01:43:13):
talking earlier, somebody was giving us a really hard time.
Actually not somebody, a lot of people, because there's a
variety I think, came out with this ranking of the
top one hundred comedies of all time. They say that
the number one comedy of all time is The Naked
Gun with Leslie Nielsen from the late eighties, which of
course was based on Police Squad. They said that's number one.
(01:43:35):
And we were going over the list earlier and we
started talking about different movies and Beth did not know,
neither did I Duck Soup. I'd never heard of duck Soup.
Speaker 11 (01:43:45):
Now, oh my god, that's one of the greatest movies
of all time.
Speaker 4 (01:43:49):
Well the text line went nuts.
Speaker 7 (01:43:52):
Yeah, people were very mad at us Brett Winterable that
we did not know duck Soup. I immediately went to
my brain went to Howard the Duck.
Speaker 11 (01:44:00):
I mean, that's that's oh my god, well that's okay. No,
the Groucho, Oh my gosh, Groucho Marx is was a
comedic genius. And look, you have a long weekend, watch
all of the Marx Brothers movies. They are hilarious, especially
with Margaret Tumont.
Speaker 4 (01:44:19):
I do want to stipulate I know who Groucho Marx is.
I know who the Marx Brothers are.
Speaker 15 (01:44:22):
I just didn't know.
Speaker 4 (01:44:23):
I didn't know that movie. And so h and again, look,
uh duck. Howard the Duck is is probably the worst
movie from the eighties, But that's the buck in the title.
Speaker 15 (01:44:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:44:35):
But anyway, so look we we sort of chuckle at
the rush hour for thing, but by the same token. Look,
I'll be the first to tell you they don't move,
they don't make movies like they used to, and there's
some there's some uh, some movies from that era that
I'd love to see.
Speaker 15 (01:44:50):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:44:51):
It's a dicey thing because you know, they brought back
Beverly Hills Cop with Eddie Murphy and I didn't so
much like that. It's like the Naked Gun with Liam
was okay. But it's sometimes I say, like, like, if
I don't want them to remake back to the future,
some things you just have to leave where they are.
But then you know, maybe a style of movie making
that's sort of has gone by the way, said, maybe
(01:45:13):
Trump can bring that back.
Speaker 7 (01:45:14):
Yeah, so here to that end, Brett Winterble, if you
could get Trump's ear and ask him to bring back
bring back a franchise or a movie that you miss,
what would you tell him to have him influence and
get put into development. Is there a movie that you
just miss?
Speaker 11 (01:45:29):
You're singing my cat, You're singing my hymn? Here I
said earlier today, I want to go to a prequel
of the Karate Kid. But going all the way back
to nineteen twenty three, and mister Miyagi is going to
have to make some decisions because if you remember in
(01:45:52):
World War Two, he wasn't treated so well, things like that.
And the reality is, I would love to see who
his master was to build the Miyagi franchise, and I
think people would be all about it. You got the
back the back, the back lot of of World War two, fascism,
all this sort of stuff. I think it would be
(01:46:13):
remarkable to see his origin story.
Speaker 7 (01:46:15):
I think that is brilliant Winter Book.
Speaker 4 (01:46:22):
That's right, they're gonna do Cobra KaiA. Just go the
reverse direction, mister, the origin story.
Speaker 15 (01:46:30):
All right?
Speaker 4 (01:46:31):
So what is on the Winter Bowl Thanksgiving menu?
Speaker 11 (01:46:34):
Everything? Everything and more? And I'm telling you it's gonna
be a show of shows and it's gonna be remarkable.
We're gonna set this thing off at at three o'clock.
We're gonna go directly to four o'clock into.
Speaker 18 (01:46:51):
The five o'clock and it is time to come home
and enjoy the blessings of the sea. Then, Lord Almighty,
I can't believe it. By the way, pro tip, go
look at Hardware Wars. There's a short that is amazing.
You guys got to watch it. Your mind will be blown.
(01:47:12):
But don't drink too much.
Speaker 7 (01:47:14):
Hardware Wars like like like pulls for your cabinets and faucets.
Speaker 11 (01:47:19):
No, this is a takeoff on Star Wars.
Speaker 12 (01:47:23):
But oh.
Speaker 7 (01:47:25):
Here I am thinking it's a remodeling show.
Speaker 4 (01:47:27):
And then and then duck soup. All right, Happy Thanksgiving,
my friend. Whaw, that's Brett Winnable, three o'clock this afternoon,
right here on your w your b and your tea's
(01:48:02):
all right, final stretch here eight minutes in front of
ten o'clock as we get set. So, final show of
the week, final show of the month because of Thanksgiving
tomorrow and taking some time off on Friday, and when
we get back here on Monday, it's going to be December.
Speaker 6 (01:48:18):
Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit.
Speaker 4 (01:48:20):
You know what we haven't gotten to yet today that
we haven't gotten to this.
Speaker 27 (01:48:25):
Today we continue a time honored American tradition. Well that's
a well trained turkey. See how happy he is. In
a few moments, I will grant a full, absolute and
unconditional presidential pardon to too handsome Thanksgiving turkeys.
Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
And this is their lucky day.
Speaker 27 (01:48:47):
This is a lucky day for them. But before going
any further, I want to make an important announcement because
you remember last year, after a thorough and very rigorous
investigation by Pam Bondi and all of the people at
Department of Justice, the FBI, the CIA, the White House
(01:49:08):
Counsel's Office, and the Apartment of Everything. We have a
department of everything, you know that is I think that's
called the White House into a terrible situation caused by
a man named Sleepy Joe Biden. He used an auto
pen last year for the Turkey's pardon. So I have
the official duty to determine, and I have determined that
(01:49:32):
last year's turkey partons are totally invalid, as are the
partons of about every other person that was pardoned other
than Where's Hunter. No Hunters was good? That was the
one part in Pam that was good, right. The rest
of them are all invalid. I don't know what the
hell you're going to do about that, but that's now
(01:49:52):
We're going to take a little of the joke.
Speaker 2 (01:49:54):
And that is a mess.
Speaker 4 (01:49:56):
But they're here, by nol and void.
Speaker 2 (01:49:58):
The turkey is.
Speaker 27 (01:49:59):
Known as peachin blossom last year, have been located and
they were on their way to be processed, in other words,
to be killed.
Speaker 15 (01:50:08):
But I have stopped that journey, and I.
Speaker 27 (01:50:10):
Am officially pardoning them, and they will not be served
for Thanksgiving dinner.
Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
We saved them in the nick of time.
Speaker 27 (01:50:19):
This one has plenty of time, but they were saved
in the nick of time anyway.
Speaker 7 (01:50:22):
So just and then he highlighted, highlighted, he pardoned, You
said highlights And then I just repeated the word garble,
and I mean marble, marbling, garble, marble, garble, gobble and novel.
Speaker 2 (01:50:37):
Gobble and wobble.
Speaker 4 (01:50:38):
You were saying full sentences today and I didn't hear them.
Speaker 7 (01:50:43):
This is garble, garb, garble and warble and warble, garble
and warble. But full pardons for those little turkeys. And
those were cute turkeys. They were big, fat white turkeys,
like the big white feathers. I mean, they look like
the turkeys that you use as a fake centerpiece for
your table.
Speaker 4 (01:51:01):
Well, I'm thankful for.
Speaker 9 (01:51:06):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:51:08):
Can I just say I am thankful.
Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
For you, guys.
Speaker 7 (01:51:11):
I am so thankful for you guys. We were in
the commercial break and bow and I liked I met
the listeners Beth oh oh, well, thank you for all
the listeners too. We were just sitting in the commercial
break saying how great to just love love coming to
work every day. How lucky are we? So I'm very
thankful that we get to spend so much time together
in this room. And we are so so so thankful, Bo,
(01:51:33):
we are both so thankful for all of you out
there who spend so many hours with us each week.
Speaker 4 (01:51:38):
Yeah, never lost on us that that happens, that you
choose to listen to this station. And we've got a
lot more to do here in twenty twenty five. Come back.
The holidays will be going. We got the bike drive
a week from a week on Friday. Yeah, if you
if you don't know what we're talking about, and how
could you not? Seven oh four to five, seven oh
(01:51:58):
eleven ten, and of course WBT dot all the details there.
Speaker 7 (01:52:02):
Do you have your menu? Do you have your menu
planned for Bow, for both Ink, for Bo's Giving, for Postgiving,
for Thanksgiving?
Speaker 4 (01:52:09):
Yes, I'll speaking third person, Bo. We'll be having turkey, Yeah,
I mean the regular stuff. I'm just looking for three
incredible football games tomorrow. Excited about that. I'm excited about
the Stranger Thing. I'm gonna watch it with my son tonight.
And like we said, take a few days off, all
of us in this room, be back on Monday. So
