Speaker 1 (00:46):
Good morning.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
How long does she rock on here?
Speaker 6 (01:15):
I told you the part I woke up to here
toward the end of the song.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
But that was it, right? That was it?
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Yeah, Alana's Marissette on a Friday.
Speaker 6 (01:23):
Deep cut Alana's This is actually from the City of
Angels soundtrack. If you saw that film with Nicholas Cage
and Meg Ryan did not see that and Andre Brower,
I love that guy. I don't know that.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
I guess I've heard this song before. I mean, you
know the other the other Alana's fans were doing this.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
Ever, guys, I.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
Don't know if you know this, but I was in
enough telligroup this was my solo.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Yeah, all right, yes, yes, yes, this is one of
those songs that the first time I heard it, I
was like that the hit that's a huge hit. That
the hook to this song one of the not just
the nineties, but I think ever honestly say you say
great so rest of the song, though, did you love it?
When you you have a song you wake up with
(02:12):
and I say, oh, there's a better one.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
I was there, It's a better way.
Speaker 7 (02:15):
Beth's brain.
Speaker 6 (02:17):
You have to you can play the beginning of There's
the Uninvited song is haunting Stephen. Stephen and Anthony said
that it's also on her standing collections.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Listen to this, Yeah boy, Happy Friday?
Speaker 6 (02:28):
Everybody doesn't this fuel just haunting emotional.
Speaker 8 (02:31):
It's great like, oh yeah, yee, I'm Fletcher.
Speaker 6 (02:41):
Your fascination with me. It's kind of creepy, like any
hot blood and woe.
Speaker 9 (02:53):
I have simplynted that object to crave.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
M happy Forriday.
Speaker 6 (03:04):
You're not allowed though, Oh yes I am. That was
hilarc That was hilaric.
Speaker 7 (03:15):
It's the battle of Alana's Mariset today.
Speaker 6 (03:21):
I don't know about you guys, but I kind of
loved Elana's Morissette. And if you've heard an interview with
her recently, she's just like the calmest, kind of most centered,
kind of glows from within human as if she just
kind of found herself and her peace and she just
exists in her own joy. There's something really lovely about that. Oh,
(03:44):
she's got one hint in her pocket.
Speaker 7 (03:45):
Nothing lovely about this one.
Speaker 6 (03:49):
This was huge in my high school, like a cigaret route.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
As much as I like ironic, I cannot stand the song.
Speaker 6 (04:00):
Yeah, this one I didn't love. I did not love,
but I I.
Speaker 7 (04:05):
Did love.
Speaker 6 (04:05):
What was her the first hit that? Oh, that's the
one scratch your nails down somebody Else's back.
Speaker 7 (04:10):
In the movie Theater in the Theater, Yeah, which.
Speaker 6 (04:14):
Was supposedly written about cut it out guy Dave.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Yes, Yes, yes, fast as fast can be. She caught him,
which is so creepy when you really think about it. Wow,
you want to know, thank you, Steve.
Speaker 6 (04:28):
He was like, yest, yeah.
Speaker 10 (04:30):
Yeah, you do know.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
And I did mean for my voice to crack there.
Speaker 11 (04:35):
That's how she was.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
It's like yodel almost.
Speaker 6 (04:37):
That was a mega hit.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I mean that album was a mega hit.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
Yes, Jagged Little Pill was a mega hit. And then
her next one, you know, when she did the thank
you India, look at You.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
I was just about to play that song because I
think that's an underrated song.
Speaker 11 (04:53):
By her.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
A lot of people forget and it always helps, It
always makes the segment much better when I actually play
the song I'm talking about. But I'm working on it well.
That that video got ripped to shreds, yeah, because she's
walking around with no clothes on, but they're blurred right.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
She was in she was like in New York City
with the world passing by her quickly. But it was
symbolic though, of kind of her the process of her
healing herself. And I think it was kind of, you know,
re emerging as you would as a as a naked
baby while the world, while the world, while the world,
you know, continues fast paced around.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Is that a baby out there in Times Square?
Speaker 6 (05:33):
I'm am I being too u too heady this early
in the morning.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
No, I mean you start off with this with this
uh ominous like uh Jordan invited, Yeah, welcome to Friday
and you're uninvited. And I don't really know, I don't
know where to go from there.
Speaker 6 (05:47):
I actually don't know how that song ended up in
my head. I rarely surprised myself, you know, because I
lived with me all day, and that surprised me, that
that one surprised me that song. It's a great song, though.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Well, most of them are great songs. I mean she
She's she uh defined an era, an era we grew
up in, so we always, you know, we think about
her songs. But then there are some really bad ones
in there. This this, I've been working around to find it.
I'm talking about she'elle. Here we go, Here we go.
(06:23):
Now we've come first full circle.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
Well, Mike just sent us a text message. He said, Hey, Beth,
it's Mike again. Have you heard the country artist Nate Smith.
He does a song called Nobody Likes Your Girlfriend with
Alanis Morissette, does a little duo. I have not heard that.
Speaker 7 (06:37):
So we need to we need to come.
Speaker 12 (06:42):
Here.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
It is the nineties right there in a nice little
box for you. Well, we'll find that song. Don't worry,
we'll find it.
Speaker 6 (06:48):
Yeah, Mike and Monroe, we're gonna find it. Thank you
for alerting us to.
Speaker 13 (06:52):
It, to remind you up the mess you laut when
you went away. It's not bear to deny of the
cross side bear that you give to me.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
You you you you you you you Autumn No, I said,
it's Altas Morris at Friday.
Speaker 6 (07:14):
What was that was that y'all. Did y'all go into
studio D and just record.
Speaker 11 (07:18):
That Kevin Malone from the office, So.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Yeah, pretty much, I do.
Speaker 11 (07:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Back at at six point twenty on a Friday morning
here on News Talk eleven ten WBT, and uh, well,
the turmoil at North Carolina continues around the football program.
WRAL had that investigative report earlier this week uncovering various
issues going on behind the scenes. Unc Athletics yesterday said
it's looking into the actions of an assistant football coach
(07:44):
who was suspended earlier this week for providing extra benefits
and all these questions about is is Bill Belichick and
going to last the season? I mean, it's a crazy
thing to even sort of ask, but given where we
started with this, but it's a thing, A lot of
question marks up in the air right now.
Speaker 6 (08:03):
Controversy is a swirland.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
So we decided to get the take of a former
Tar Heel coach. Our resident Tarhill coach Matt Doherty joined
us yesterday.
Speaker 11 (08:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (08:13):
I think a couple of things. One, you know, what
do you expect, Like, what do we expect?
Speaker 12 (08:21):
We hired an NFL coach and he's transitioned to college.
My assumption. And I think most of his staff have
not been in college. He's got seventy new players because
of the transfer portal, they are not flushed with NFL talent.
So what do we expect? Do we expect him to
(08:42):
be what five and zero? You know, like that's kind
of ridiculous. The expectations were through the freaking roof. And
you look back Matt Brown in his first stint at
North Carolina one in ten and one in ten and
ended up in the top ten a few years later.
So you can't make chicken salad at a chicken you
(09:05):
know what. And so I think that the expectations now
more than ever. You know, it's a microwave society, you know.
We we buy it, we put it in the microwave,
and we expect in two and a half minutes for
it to be hot and ready to eat. That's not
the way you build organizations, especially football teams with rosters
(09:27):
in excess of you know, eighty players.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
So there are a number of stories floating around about this.
Ali Connolly had a lengthy thread on X that's been
picked up by a lot of national outlets and reputable ones.
But he says, per sources, Bill Belichick has discussed buyout
options with North Carolina's hierarchy. He signaled a willingness to
trigger his own one million dollar buyout if you can
(09:51):
find a soft landing with another team. We're in the media.
We were also playing a report earlier about how that
legally they're exploring options about whether Bill Belichick could be
fired for calls based on some of these you know,
behind the scenes allegations. So, you know, I don't think
anybody expected Bill Belichick to, you know, win the National
(10:12):
Championship coming out of the gate. But it's one thing
to talk about the things going on on the field,
but the off the field stuff like do you do
you feel like this could be as serious as it is,
meaning that maybe he won't be around for the whole season.
Speaker 12 (10:26):
You know, that's all speculation. I don't know who Ali is,
but there's always people like that floating around the program
starting things up, and there's probably some truth to it.
So I think a couple of things. This all comes
down the leadership, and that's why I do what I
do now as an executive coach. College athletics are family
(10:50):
run businesses, and many family run businesses are dysfunctional and
This all started because some boosters apparently didn't end around
No pun intended on Bubba Cunningham and brought Bill Belichick in,
and you know, because they thought it was best. So leadership,
(11:10):
there's a lack of alignment between the boosters and the administration.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
So no trust.
Speaker 12 (11:16):
They don't stay in their lanes ego pride, and that
goes on in business, but athletic departments, especially at places
like University of North Carolina with long traditions, the family
run businesses, and I had to deal with that, you know,
you know, following Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge. So and
then the second thing. So, so okay, they hired Bill Belichick.
(11:39):
He's here now. Now it comes down to leadership internally
to Bill Belichick, who's never been a college football coach.
You know, his staff comes in.
Speaker 14 (11:50):
And I think most of them came from the NFL.
He's got the girlfriend distraction.
Speaker 12 (11:56):
He has always been gruff. He's always been a little
bit controlling, and so I am surprised to hear that
internally that he is not doing a better job there. However,
that's the NFL mentality, like the best players get paid
the mouse money. So Tom Brady was treated differently than
(12:19):
another player, and you know, and in college locker room
they're not used to that as much. And that's the
level of maturity. But it comes down to communication and leadership.
And it's just a bad It was a bad fit
all around. And I go back to the leadership and
alignment from the boosters to the administration. But we're here now,
(12:43):
we're here, So what do we do? You support the
man till you can't, all right, you support him, you
support him, you support him, and then it reaches a
tipping point and you don't support him, and will there
be a buyout?
Speaker 15 (12:56):
Who knows.
Speaker 12 (12:57):
But the only thing you can control as a coach,
and I'm been there is today's practice. What do you
do today? And I think Bill Belichick is more you
know this, This has come up. Nick Saban talked about
it recently. Phil Jackson has talked about it. They're transactional
coaches and transformational coaches, and I think that Bill Belichick
(13:18):
is a transactional coach. Okay, more of the NFL style.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
In college.
Speaker 12 (13:24):
You need to be transformational, even though these players are
like NFL players because they're getting played paid and they're
transferring transformational leadership lasts.
Speaker 14 (13:34):
Longer, you know.
Speaker 12 (13:35):
And I wasn't great at that when I was coaching
at North Carolina, and I think I've learned to be better.
But you want to be a transformational coach. Dean Smith
was certainly a transformational coach because he coached the whole person,
not just the athlete.
Speaker 6 (13:50):
See this is why we love you so much. That
is such a fantastic assessment of what's going on here.
And it's also one of the really cool things about
you is you You took that experience at you and
C and you looked in the mirror, you turned the
mirror on yourself and you just said, you know, you
could have done something differently to be a more transformational
coach when you were there, And I think that that
(14:11):
says everything about the kind of human you are. How
do you think or could you train a Bill Belichick
to turn that mirror on himself and become a more
transformational coach? Or is this a he was in the
NFL for so long that you can't teach an old
dog new tricks.
Speaker 12 (14:29):
Yeah. Well, there's two kinds of people that you work
with as an executive coach, fixed mindset and growth mindset.
And I would hope that he would be growth mindset,
and it was pretty cool to hear Nick Saban talk
about it on game day when he was at Michigan State.
Your life impacted by three things. The people you meet,
(14:51):
the books you read, the trauma in your life. And
this experience is traumatic. You know, for Bill Belichick, you
could say always rich, you don't need it. He's insulated.
You know, he's still, whether you believe it or not,
probably has some feelings right, and you know this has
shaking him a little bit. So you know, if you
(15:12):
hit that point, are you going to embrace change and
try to grow from it and learn from it again?
In the microwave society, he might not have time to
make that adjustment because it just can be an overwhelming
sentiment that it would be tough to do that in whatever.
(15:35):
You know, five or six games.
Speaker 11 (15:36):
He has left here.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
He is former Tar Heel head basketball coach and National
Champion player Matt Doherty talking about the Bill Belichick situation.
You can hear that entire interview on demand at WBT
dot com in the Good Morning BT section.
Speaker 6 (15:49):
Well, that's such a great conversation. What a delightful human
he is?
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Well, I mean he not many people have been in
that club, that head coach club, and know the scrutiny
and pressure of being the the coach at the heels
for any sport. And so I was very very interested
to talk to him. And the conversation did not disappoint.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
It did not. This is Good Morning Bet with Bo
Thompson and the Math croud Man.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Yes, speaking of Octoberfest, did you have on a jacket? Yeah?
I took it off.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
I suddenly saw your elbows and it it took me aback.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
That's wrong with my helbows?
Speaker 6 (16:27):
No, it just had it?
Speaker 10 (16:29):
Did it?
Speaker 3 (16:29):
First it was knees, Now it's elbows. It looked a
different I have joints, Beeth, I'm not gumby here. Six
point thirty eight on WBT to october Fest. You heard
it right there. It continues this weekend, in fact, tomorrow night.
Are you guys ready for this? Tomorrow night? Six o'clock
on Facebook Live prod Squad, Am, this is Bernie, the
(16:50):
Bernie and Steve Show. What's tomorrow night?
Speaker 11 (16:52):
We've been prepping for minutes now?
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Yeah, well, each other second. You have big shoes to fill.
He had Zochie and me and Beth and the Wueeniac
last Saturday Night. You can guys gonna and then Nick
Craig and was Brett Winnable on Sunday as well. So
I did not see or hear that one. I assume
it went well.
Speaker 11 (17:06):
Yes, I've heard great reviews from that.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Okay, uh, Sunday October twelfth is Vince and Brett Jensen.
That's this weekend. That's your October Fest slate. Yere, We're
just the pregame show for brettt Vince. Have you guys
been Have you guys talked at all about what you're
gonna do? No, really, just kind of said, yeah, we've
been planning for seconds.
Speaker 6 (17:25):
I think you should go to Brett Winter or Brett
Jensen's rooftop and and and smoke cigars and do it
from there, just like Grett will.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
I don't know if I'm allowed a Bret.
Speaker 11 (17:33):
Johnson's house, but he can do it from his car
down in the parking left.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
This is all a big chance to unveil all the
secrets of behind the scenes of this show. Actually we
gotta oh wait a minute, we do that on the air.
Speaker 16 (17:43):
We got a message from the program director that we're
not allowed to talk about anything from behind the scenes.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Oh okay, because we don't talk about to sit there.
We'll play Biff Polke, We'll play a couple of hits. Yeah,
all right, well, you guys, I might have to I'm
gonna I'm gonna here's what I'm gonna do. I'm not
gonna like parachute in and you know, take over, but
I'm gonna back and watch. I might have to do
that with with a couple of beers. Let the boil, watch,
Let's let let Bernie and Steve.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Cook, let them go, let them simmer, let them simmer.
Speaker 11 (18:09):
Wow, this is lit, guys.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
You know, I just realized, speaking of Toctoberfest, that we
have a pair of tickets to give away. We're supposed
to give away to Talktoberfest and we haven't done that.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
And it's Friday to the online Talktoberfest, No.
Speaker 16 (18:27):
To the Bernie and Steve Show, My Life two tickets
to see Bernie and Steve on Facebook, Marketplace or you
can just open up your own laptop and watch for free.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
So we're giving away to News and Bruce.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Yes, yes, exactly that.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Octoberfest is to October twenty ninth, and all of the
shows have tickets to give away, we do as well,
and this actually works well. I had to not tell
any of you all that we were going to do this,
but you know, Steve, we have. We technically had one
left over that we did not use. You know what
I'm talking about. I forgot from the Renfest from the
(19:01):
ren Fet So I'm thinking, here's the thing. It was
the hardest one. I didn't use it because I thought
it was going to stump people. And I know usually
we have you know, you got to get two, right,
But I'm thinking since I didn't realize we had the tickets,
and I'm not not right this minute, but I'm at
a moment. We will decide if Steve is up for it. Well,
(19:23):
can you talk to Sir Steven of Anthony and see
if he's up for a special cameo today. We will
have to powow and Bena make sure that he's available.
Speaker 7 (19:30):
You'll do that during this break and we'll come back
and I guess I have to assess.
Speaker 6 (19:35):
So and guys, this is a big deal. So it's
a hard, hard song to get. But if you get
these tickets, you get to meet all of us.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
And it's only one. This is a one and done.
Like if you get the answer right, you're going you
don't have to go go on to a round two
and it's pair of tickets and you get a glass. Yeah,
you get that, you get the whole. And this is
coming up on the twenty ninth at the Heist Brewery
and Barrel Arts. So coming up next hour we will
give away if if Sir Steven is ready for this,
and he'll have to talk to his alter ego during
(20:02):
the break, and if so, we'll let you know when
this is gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (20:05):
But I love surprises.
Speaker 11 (20:06):
Steve is multiple personality.
Speaker 16 (20:08):
I was about saying my schizophrenia needs to kick in
over the commercial break.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
I'm telling you I did not use this one because
I thought it might go on forever because it's hard,
really I think, so maybe I'm wrong, Maybe I'm wrong.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
And that it was one of the more recognizable songs.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Yeah, but you're you're weird like that. So it's nice
if Sir Stephen of Anthony agrees to be part of this.
See even even Queen is excited about this. We'll tell
you in a few minutes name that barredcore song for
News and Bruise tickets. This is like when Taylor Swift
(20:44):
comes out with a Taylor's version, or there's like a
song left on the cutting room floor, or like the
behind the scenes on the on the Blu Ray DVD,
like like we're gonna go back to the contest that
we thought we were done with.
Speaker 6 (20:56):
Yeah, and I had no idea about this. I love surprises.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
That's what I'm here for.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
You do a good job.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
It's five o'clock some well it's actually six fifty one here,
but new Survey says that at five o'clock dinner is
becoming more and more popular for the younger crowd out there.
Speaker 6 (21:19):
I'm a big fan of gen z now and millennials
because they're starting to think that we are darn cool,
you know what with our vinyl and with our cassette
tapes and with our time X watches that only have
like one thing that they do and that's till time.
And now they're jumping on board with our grandma dinner time.
(21:41):
I love early dinner. I love it, and this is
a great trend to bring back.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
So we we dinner at five o'clock in my house
have for years, like maybe as long as we've been married.
Five o'clock and like, if I go somewhere and you
know the dinner is at seven or later, I'm miserable.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
I'm mad when people tell me they've made dinner reservations
for seven thirty. What are you doing eating in the
middle of the night.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
But that's not like a new thing for us, Like
we've been eating dinner at five pm at my house,
like since my kids were even before my kids.
Speaker 6 (22:13):
But do you remember back in the day when you
and I were in college. I know we didn't go
to college together, but do you remember when nine pm
was when you started getting ready to go out.
Speaker 11 (22:23):
At the pre game?
Speaker 3 (22:24):
That was the pregame again.
Speaker 6 (22:26):
You were out by you know, you met your friends
ten ten thirty. I can't even imagine if somebody told
me to meet them at ten pm. I would be like,
are you a crazy person? What is happening? And now
that this is what I love about this. It's young people.
It's not just us. Our generation now is taking advantage
of the early bird specials and taking advantage of the
(22:49):
smaller crowds that are at dinner at four thirty and
five o'clock in the afternoon. But young people are also
because they are strapped for cash and paying higher rents
and not you know, able to afford a house. Right now,
they are saving money by doing the early dinner time
with these early bird specials. Although technically in North Carolina
(23:10):
you can't legally have a happy hour, but you can
have specials, specials, daily specials.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
According to data collected by the app Open Table, fifty
three percent of gen Z fifty one percent of millennials
in the United States are interested now in snagging an
earlier seat, you know, going to a restaurant around five o'clock. Now,
it's one thing to go to a restaurant at five o'clock.
Sometimes I'll go early because you can get a better seat.
Like they say here, I love it, But I'm talking
about sitting down in your home. Yeah, and eating at
(23:38):
five o'clock. Like to me, you go past five o'clock.
And if I'm not eating something by five o'clock, then I.
Speaker 11 (23:44):
Thrown hands right.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Yeah, I mean I'm a fight going on. Yeah, I'm
going to look for food in the backyard.
Speaker 11 (23:49):
Well, well I'm all foraging. I'll be back in a minute.
Speaker 6 (23:53):
One of the I mean it's for us too, because
we go to bed so much earlier than I think
a lot of people. I mean, I try to be
in bed by seven thirty. If I eat any later
than five pm, I've got acid reflux. You know, I'm
not or I'm not sleeping well because my body's trying
to digest food and that's not good for you.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
We do have odd schedules, so that's that's first and foremost.
But we were eating at five o'clock at my house
way before I was doing this schedule. When I was
doing this somewhat, I don't know that I've ever been
like nine to five, or if it's been a long time.
Speaker 6 (24:25):
I've never I've never never had a nine to five schedule,
not once in my entire career.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
I was more of a I was at one point
in my career, I was more like a five am
to five PM guy because I ended up just ended
up staying here doing things in the afternoon. But the
traditional nine to five are thing, even if that's the
way I will. In my house, we've always eaten five.
In fact, when I was growing up, we used to
eat a lot later. When I was a kid, sometimes
(24:51):
we didn't eat until like seven or eight.
Speaker 17 (24:53):
Oh man, that's nothing. When I was a kid with
sometimes we need till nine nine to thirty. I'm not
like my family, especially my dad and stepmom. They they
always eat. It's notorious in my family that we'll eat
like nine o'clock. It's it's nuts. But I have gotten
so used to eating early times, I mean normal time,
I mean just hanging out.
Speaker 7 (25:12):
Well, I remember this so back when I was in
middle school.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I'll never forget this. When I got to them was
junior high school, because in elementary school you started off
as a kindergartener. And at the school I was at,
it was kind of weird because the kindergarteners ate last.
For whatever reason. You'd think the youngest kids would go first,
but we went lest.
Speaker 6 (25:32):
A half day at kindergarten. We did a half day.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Oh no, we were all full days.
Speaker 18 (25:36):
I ate home.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
I mean that's why I'm the comfort of your intellectually superior.
Speaker 11 (25:43):
This man's had some extra schooling, Beth, he.
Speaker 6 (25:45):
Had an extra three hours in kindergarten.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
No, But when I got to middle school as a
seventh grader, and again it was junior high so it
was seventh through ninth, then we ate lunch at ten forty. Yeah, yeah,
I mean it was weird, like so we ate. We
There was a period of time in my life where
we had to get school started. I think is it
at seven forty or maybe it was like eight fifteen,
But at any rate, I meant I ate breakfast at
(26:08):
home at like, I don't know, six forty five, seven o'clock.
Then you have lunch at ten forty, and then we
sometimes we had dinner at like eight.
Speaker 6 (26:16):
Oh my gosh, were you starving by the end of
the school day.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
I when I was in middle school, I used to
come home and eat a whole freaking bowl of cereal.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
You rebel?
Speaker 7 (26:26):
Wait, I said that wrong. A whole box of Cereal?
Speaker 12 (26:29):
Oh bowl?
Speaker 6 (26:30):
Man, Guys, when I got homeade a whole bull a ball.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
You didn't ask how big the ball was, like a
popcorn bowl? No, but I think sometimes I come home
and practically eat a whole box of Cereal.
Speaker 11 (26:40):
Yeah, my wife does that.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
She loves Cereal.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Cereal, it was big. When I was in that was
always an afternoon snack.
Speaker 6 (26:46):
My my family, I mean my mom, we had dinner
on the table. Whole bull you crazy man. We had
dinner at five thirty easy. We had never ate later
than six o'clock. I mean, you guys know that the
Winniac was never at dinner with us, So we ate
five thirty my mom's home. She made dinner and the
Wainiac ate when he got home from his other family.
Speaker 7 (27:09):
We probably ate two dinners.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
That's probably the man's well fed man.
Speaker 11 (27:18):
Oh man.
Speaker 6 (27:19):
But we I mean we ate at my school. We
ate lunch at normal times. We had dinner at five
thirty six o'clock at the table. Sometimes if we were lucky,
we would have it. We would get to eat. We'd
have dinner on a tray and we'd get to eat
while watching our favorite you know, rerun of Vandy Griffith
or something. But all of us would eat at the
same time with our trays. But we ate it five
(27:40):
thirty six o'clock. That was I mean, that's been my
dinner schedule, I think my whole life.
Speaker 17 (27:44):
My wife makes a great point, she said, the drinking
for young people has gone down significantly, So why go
out and people just go out early and they get
their early bird special, they go home and hang out.
Speaker 11 (27:52):
Yeah, the more you want.
Speaker 18 (27:55):
Thank you?
Speaker 3 (27:59):
All right, sir, Stephen, are you here? Are you willing
to do this?

it pretty difficult to uh to swing that whole, you know,

Speaker 11 (34:58):

Speaker 3 (35:00):
It's the talkiest of hawks.
Speaker 10 (35:01):
But you know, we'll go.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
We'll go with what you said.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
This is Good Morning BT.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
On WBT day number ten of the government shutdown in Washington,
d C. Yesterday, the House leaders speaking about where we
are with all of this.
Speaker 20 (35:27):
It doesn't get better for the country. Right now, half
our civilian federal employees are on furlough. Real vital critical
services that American citizens in all categories rely upon are halted.
And when we talk specifically about our military, right now,
service members, military personnel at home and abroad, as well
as border patrol agents, TSA, air traffic controllers, they're all
(35:50):
working without.
Speaker 21 (35:51):
Paid House and Senate Democrats have repeatedly made clear that
we will sit down with anyone, anytime, any place, negotiate
a bipartisan agreement that reopens the government and that addresses
the Republican healthcare crisis. We've also made clear that we
will not support a partisan Republican spending bill that continues
(36:16):
to gut the healthcare of the American people, because we're
dealing with a Republican created healthcare crisis that must be
addressed with the fierce urgency of now.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
So you heard from Mike Johnson, the House Speaker, and
of course that was Hakeem Jeffries just a moment ago,
and we go to the hotline and welcome one of
their colleagues who joins us every Friday at this time.
He is Congressman Mark Harris. Good morning to you, sir.
Speaker 10 (36:43):
Good morning, Bo and Beth, how are you this morning.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Always good to talk to you. So we are now
in the thick of this we wondered how long this
would go, and I'm curious as we talk on this
Friday morning, do you see an end insight for this shutdown?
Speaker 10 (36:59):
Well, you know, that's a great question. I really I
wish I could say that I do. But until there's
until Chuck Humor, and until the Democrats and the Senate
determined that they're ready to reopen the government, we're going
to continue in the same place that we are because
there's just there's nothing else to be done at this point.
(37:22):
And that's the point that I keep trying to point
out the folks. I mean, they say, well, we need
to go back in and we need to vote on this.
Speaker 11 (37:29):
And vote on that.
Speaker 10 (37:30):
We've already voted to keep the government open. That's what
we did on September nineteenth, when we voted to make
sure that we kept the government open, and that the
bottom line was that we just wanted to make sure
that we didn't get in this situation by putting the
date to November twenty first to allow us to get
(37:52):
the appropriation bills through. So, you know, I wish I
could say that I see an end what they're doing.
You know, a lot of the asked do you think
they'll go ahead and just and do something this week,
because we've had a critical moment here because votes that
are paid every two weeks are now about to hit
the fifteenth of the month, and when those paychecks aren't
(38:14):
going to come for our military and for other folks,
then it becomes a far more serious situation. And just
yesterday Chuck Humer deemed a state there was something to
quote I saw from him that, you know, this was
something that was working great and every day got better
and better for them in this I don't understand their reasoning.
(38:35):
I think the American people are just absolutely befuddled by
how the Democrats are thinking through this.
Speaker 6 (38:43):
You know, yesterday, I believe it was yesterday or day before,
Speaker Mike Johnson was on c SPAN and you know
on those shows they take live calls and a lot
of folks are just to your point, concerned about the
fifteenth of the month, particularly particularly the military, concerned about
(39:03):
what kind of pay they can expect. They were concerned
the FAA that the air traffic controllers some calling in
sick and being concerned about pay. And now there's discussion
about whether or not and you can tell us more
about what this means President Trump floated the idea of
not thinking about the back pay or not acknowledging back
(39:26):
pay for some of the workers and potentially firing some
of the folks who are calling in sick right now.
Is there truth to all of that and where do
we go from here?
Speaker 10 (39:39):
Well, that's that's a great point you made. I think
what President Trump was speaking of is there would be
some federal employees that are not only furloughed, but are
let go because again, we only have the amount of
dollars that we have, and when russ Vote and the
Office of Management and Budget are are trying to navigate
(40:01):
through this, they have to set priorities of what's going
to be essentral and what's not. And there will may
very well be we've talked about shrinking the size of government,
there may be a number of federal employees that may
fall in the category of waste, fraud, and abuse or
waste at least, and that those positions could be eliminated
(40:24):
and therefore fired and they would not get back paid.
But most of the federal employees that are just purely furloughed,
they will get back paid. Uncertain of that and will
be continued to be taken care of. But I think
that's what the President was speaking of. There may be
those that do not fall within the priority of the
(40:45):
administration and what we're trying to do, and those volks
those jobs may be eliminated in this situation. So I
don't know that that part of it is. I think
where he was saying they are and speaking to it.
But I think the federal employees that are out, they
do get back paid when the government shutdown is over
(41:07):
and they're back end.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
This is Good Morning BT.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
Seven thirty seven on WBT Friday, October tenth, bohen Beth
here in the historic Tyboid studio talking to Congressman Mark Harris,
who joins us once a week here on the Great Colossus.
Speaker 6 (41:25):
And I got to tell you, Congressman Harris, our listeners
love the conversation that we're having with you, and they're
chiming in on the text line. Lance texted us with
the question he wanted me to ask you, what are
the three to five issues that are holding the budget
up from approval?
Speaker 10 (41:44):
Well, again, this is really not budget approval that we're
waiting on the Senate to vote on. We're waiting on
the Senate to basically just approve the CR, which is
nothing but a date. I mean, November twenty four is
what was in the CR as a clean of CR.
You can imagine that just basically said we've got appropriation
(42:06):
bills that we've got to move, and there's twelve of those.
We've passed three of them. The Senate has passed three.
They don't exactly linked up, so they're going to conference committee.
But then there are more appropriation bills than the hopper
that have been passed out of the committee. The Houses
moved all twelve out of committee. They've just got to
get to the floor and they've got to be voted on.
(42:28):
So that's going to be the actual budget and trying
to get those appropriation bills completed. So that's not what
holding it up. The Senate is simply just not voting.
They're being held up by other Dems that are not
willing to simply pass the CR that gives us till
November twenty first. That's what the whold up is right now.
(42:51):
So it's not an actual budget at this particular point
that's holding it up.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Congress. Somebody switch gears to what has been a huge
story this week, and you know, President Trump has been
able apparently to pull something off here that if you
thought could happen, and it apparently apparently we have a
peace deal in the Middle East. Of course, we're still
waiting to see how this all gets hammered out. And
as he said a few few nights ago, this is
(43:19):
in various phases, but phase one is the apparent agreement
to end the conflict there in Gaza. What are your
thoughts on where we are with this.
Speaker 10 (43:30):
Well, I got to tell you both of you, you've
been very gracious and have been with me ever since
I got the Congress on January third of this year.
If you had asked me on January third if we
would be at a peace deal in the Middle East
by October, I would have said, you know, I believe
this is going to be a transformational government. I believe
(43:52):
that we're going to see some amazing things happen with
President Trump in the White House. To be honest, I
don't know that any of us ever dreamed that we
would be sitting where we are with this kind of
potential broad deal. And obviously the ceasefire is now coming
underway and the hostages are set to be released within
(44:14):
I think the next seventy two hours, the President is
going to Israel and is going to address the Knesset.
From what I understand, the invitation has been given and
formally and he is accepted. And if you would have
asked me that at the beginning of this year, I
would have said, Wow, I don't know that that would
be on my bingo card that we would be at
(44:36):
this point. But to God be the glory, this is
something we've been praying for. I looked at a list
last night of the twenty living hostages that they think
are living that are going to be released, and the
three young men that I met their families in February
that came to my office in Canon, my office building
(44:57):
in Washington. All three of those men that we have
been praying for our on this list. So I get
pretty excited, a little emotional, and I think about the
fact that these three may very well have survived. And
one of them was just over a month or so
ago when he was used in a propaganda video Bahamas
(45:18):
being forced to dig his own grave. He looked like
he was starving. Evatar Dave. I'm very anxious to see
that he comes out along with these others.
Speaker 6 (45:29):
You can definitely hear the emotion in your voice. Congressman.
You know, on Fridays, we always, and we're about to
do this at seven point fifty, we offer people the
chance to tell us something good because there are so
many negative headlines, so many headlines that make people feel
divided or scared in their communities, and we offer people
(45:50):
a chance to tell us something good that's happening in
their lives, to remind us of all of the things
that unite us. So as we let you go on
this Friday, although you did just tell us something really good,
tell us something, tell us something good coming out of
Washington that people can feel hopeful about.
Speaker 12 (46:09):
Well, I believe this has to be it, Beth.
Speaker 10 (46:12):
I mean, to me, this is the most exciting thing
that we've seen in some time. I mean, I can
tell you Nimrod Cohen. Cohen is one of the guys
and Avatar Davis that I mentioned in Guy Gilboa Dash Delau.
Speaker 14 (46:29):
Those are the.
Speaker 10 (46:30):
Three guys whose posters are outside my office that we've
been praying for. And the fact that I see their
names on the lists of the twenty that are expected
or thought to be alive that are going to be
released we hope. That to me is incredible, and I'm
holding out hope and excited about the possibilities within the
(46:52):
next forty eight to seventy two dollars of seeing those
hostages come home.
Speaker 3 (46:57):
Congressman, we really appreciate you joining us as always part
of our week here on Good Morning BT. And we'll
talk to you again soon. Hope you have a good weekend.
Speaker 10 (47:05):
Thank you. I hope you all do as well.
Speaker 3 (47:07):
Okay, we'll talk next week. That's Congressman Mark Harris. And
like Beth said, he just let us off. We do
it on Fridays. We did not last Friday because we
were at the speedway, so maybe we have some some leftover,
some backlaw. We have a backlog of good headlines from
your life seven oh four to five, seven oho, eleven, ten,
and then already on the text line, people are ahead
of us on this. That's how I know that this
(47:29):
is catching on. Yeah, tell us something good can be,
something that good happened to you, that something happened to
somebody you know, just want to get it out there
in the ether over the fifty thousand watchs. Beth and
I both believe that during times like this is more
important than ever to use these these airwaves when we
can for the good.
Speaker 7 (47:47):
So let's do it.
Speaker 3 (47:48):
Seven oh four, five, seven oh eleven ten. Also good
news the return of Sean O'Connell coming up at eight
oh five today. There's a movie that you may have
heard of that Steve has alerted us about this Tron.
Speaker 6 (48:00):
Yeah, heard about that, Yeah, something something called Tron.
Speaker 7 (48:03):
Bernie Phil Phil Steve in on that during the break.
Speaker 11 (48:06):
Yeah, I'll tell them.
Speaker 1 (48:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (48:07):
And also a movie have.
Speaker 3 (48:08):
You heard about?
Speaker 22 (48:09):
This?
Speaker 7 (48:09):
Movie that basically where did I had that written down?
Speaker 3 (48:12):
Someone said it's the most authentically Charlotte movie ever made,
is coming out today as well.
Speaker 6 (48:19):
Ye Rufman Rufe Man with Channing Tatum Tatum Channing Wait,
Channing Channing, I got it right? Did you'll ever see
the episode? I think it was. It was a late
night show after the Oscars and Jamie Fox and Channing
Tatum were a little bit inebriated, and it showed up
on a live like after show and Jamie Fox started
playing the piano singing I'm good on Channing.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
Tatum, Oh god, oh yeah.
Speaker 6 (48:42):
You don't remember? That was like, I can't forget it.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
I can't believe you got his name? Wrong.
Speaker 6 (48:47):
Did I get it wrong?
Speaker 18 (48:49):
The talking?
Speaker 2 (48:49):
Hey?
Speaker 12 (48:50):
What's up? How are you doing?
Speaker 3 (48:51):
Fan Man?
Speaker 1 (48:51):
I like that.
Speaker 3 (48:52):
I don't know what it means, but I like it.
Speaker 6 (48:54):
Hey, how are you hi? We're great?
Speaker 12 (48:56):

We always love hearing from you. Two seven oh four
five seven oh, I'm seven eleven ten. We love to
talk to you. We also love to see your text.
Mike sent us a message and he said last Friday,
he sent us a message and we didn't we didn't
have time to do tell me something good because we
(49:47):
were at the speedway. As Bo said. He said a
friend of his who had a heart attack in front
of him while they were hanging out after a rugby match.
Mike actually spoke to his buddy yesterday and he's already
back home and expected to make a full recovery. That's
something good.
Speaker 3 (50:04):
Yes, awesome, as I don't know how we're going to
tap that one.
Speaker 6 (50:08):
I know, how do we follow that? Summer says God
brought a wonderful man into my life, and we're celebrating
our five year anniversary today. They got married on ten ten,
twenty twenty. My husband wanted this date so he would
not forget it.
Speaker 19 (50:25):
That's awesome, she said.
Speaker 6 (50:27):
I love the good News segment. It makes my day.
We all have something that we can be thankful for. Summer,
we love you, and happy anniversary.
Speaker 7 (50:35):
Brandon says, good News. I just won tickets to News and.
Speaker 5 (50:39):
Bruce, oh yeah, hey, we were part of that.
Speaker 6 (50:42):
Oh my gosh, we were part of that.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
Oh wait, he said, whoop whoop, Sorry, whoo whoop.
Speaker 6 (50:46):
That part of we got one a little bit earlier
in the show, which let us know that we needed
to make sure that we did this segment. Somebody celebrating
I need to find this one. Somebody celebrating their fortieth
anniversary and they renewed their vows in front of their
children over the weekend after I think it was forty
(51:07):
seven forty seven years that's sick. You can't find the name.
Speaker 19 (51:12):
I can't find the name.
Speaker 11 (51:13):
I'm so sorry.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
Okay, well keep looking for it. Here's another one. Good morning,
Bo and Beth. Great show today. This is something good
for me and for those I live with. I'm super
proud of my two adult children twins. One's a captain
in the Air Force, captaining the C seventeen Globe Master.
My other one is a critical care nurse at CMC
in the Surgical Trauma ICU. They are great people and
(51:36):
are really part of the solution and not the problem.
Oh that's horridable. Bring and that's from Tim.
Speaker 11 (51:41):
By the Wins too. I'm a twin two.
Speaker 3 (51:43):
Yeah time, So thank you to Tim. That's a Tim
at GMBT show at WBT dot com. There are various
ways you can get the good news out seven oh
four five seven oh eleven ten, also the email I
just gave you or again seven oh four five seven
eleven ten. You can call us Fox.
Speaker 6 (52:03):
Fox wanted us to know that he's celebrating his one
year anniversary with his living girlfriend this weekend.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
Fox.
Speaker 6 (52:10):
Oh there you go, Fox, Happy anniversary.
Speaker 3 (52:14):
Yes, Yes, you can also call us on the Bell
Atlantic nine X mobile system at Star eleven ten. I
have no idea if that still works, because the last
time that was set on these airwaves is probably like
nineteen ninety seven.
Speaker 11 (52:27):
Think Jamie set a record, Beth. We'd have to read
that one.
Speaker 6 (52:30):
Oh, Jamie is my new favorite, and I get it, Jamie.
I understand that she said good news this morning. I
just drove from Huntersville to Pineville in less than an hour.
Speaker 11 (52:40):
WHOA, that's a bit of a humblebrack.
Speaker 6 (52:42):
Hey, way to go drivers. On seventy seven it was a.
Speaker 1 (52:46):
Good morning et humble brag.

Speaker 6 (53:04):
Seven four five seven eleven ten, I interrupted.
Speaker 3 (53:06):
Bo no, no, no, I've got some good stuff.
Speaker 10 (53:09):

Speaker 11 (53:09):
Yeah, So I started, you guys know, I started with
the Panthers.
Speaker 7 (53:12):
Wait wait wait wait minute, Oh yeah, sorry for the news.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
Okay.
Speaker 17 (53:18):
I started with the Panthers, uh last week and in
my first home game, and I'm working with them in
a radio production capacity of part time. And I put
together my first promos this week for them, so that
was really cool. And it's my wife's birthday next week job.
Speaker 3 (53:32):
Now that you've got an extra job, you've got to
spend a lot of money on it. That's right.
Speaker 2 (53:35):
And the baby.
Speaker 17 (53:36):
It's mainly for the baby. Extra job, right, extra jo Yes, yes, yes,
part time extra job.
Speaker 11 (53:40):
I want to clarify that. Yes, yes, not leaving here?
Speaker 3 (53:43):
All right, We've got one more here. Ken is online
number one. Let's go to Ken. You're on WBT Morning.
Speaker 15 (53:50):
Bow and Bathroom.
Speaker 12 (53:51):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (53:51):
Ken?
Speaker 15 (53:54):
For anybody who is a fan of disc golf, the
United States Disc Golf Championship is being held at the
Winthrop Coliseum today in this weekend. Man, the best players
on the planet are there. There will be about fifteen
countries represented. So if you are a fan of that,
(54:14):
like I am a huge fan, and we're headed down there,
I'm inviting anybody could go down there.
Speaker 3 (54:20):
It is very cool.
Speaker 6 (54:22):
That's so awesome, Ken. And if Mark Garrison says it's cool,
you know it's at next level cool.
Speaker 11 (54:27):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (54:28):
Ken's message has been approved by Mark.
Speaker 6 (54:30):
One Mark Garrison.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (54:32):
Let me get one more in Mark Garrison. Thank you, Ken, yus,
thank you Ken.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
We love you.
Speaker 6 (54:36):
Adam. I want to make sure we get Adams in.
He said, Good morning. My family and I are participating
in the Alzheimer's Walk in Gastonia this weekend. All of
my friends in business associates have stepped up and Adam
was able to raise almost seven thousand dollars.
Speaker 7 (54:52):
The yes and now my favorite part of this segment.
Speaker 3 (54:55):
Every week, I've got to say, what's today? It's almost
eight o'clock in the return of Sean O'Connell. Coming up next,
Tron opens up today, Tron aries, that's news to Steve
And as I said earlier, the most authentically Charlotte movie
ever made. You gotta hear about this one coming up
on WBT.
Speaker 7 (55:17):
Good morning, I see you guys to trot fine, good morning,
Echo Basse, this is rope too.
Speaker 2 (55:24):
I found them repeat, I've found.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
Them from News Talk eleven ten and ninety nine three
double BT.
Speaker 3 (55:32):
I love it when a plan comes together.
Speaker 1 (55:34):
This is Good Morning Beat with Bo Thompson and Beth Troutwit, and.
Speaker 3 (55:39):
I was listening to the magic voice was coming out
of this strange modern invention. Yeah we're talking about Tron, right,
I mean, this is Tron nineteen eighty two Tron.
Speaker 10 (55:59):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (56:02):
Okay, okay, okay, go ahead, to go ahead, Bernie play that.
Speaker 7 (56:07):
We came here.
Speaker 12 (56:11):
From the digital world.
Speaker 16 (56:13):
Looking for something, something you've discovered, and some of us
will stop at nothing.
Speaker 3 (56:24):
Your world is running out of time.
Speaker 10 (56:26):
Hang on.
Speaker 17 (56:29):
Tron aris Sted PG thirteen featuring original music by Nine
Inch Nails, film for Imax Lean Theaters, October.
Speaker 3 (56:35):
Tenth, Okay eight o eight on WBT Boe and Beth
and Sir Steven of Anthony, biggest Tron fan We've ever met.
Bernie Bowles featured in this ensemble as well. And now
to the DOUBLEBT hotline from CBR. Always great to have
him on a Friday, The one and only Sorry I
(56:58):
talked over the nine inch Nails. It is Sean O'Connell.
What's going on man, Welcome back to the show.
Speaker 8 (57:04):
Hello boys, good to be on the grid.
Speaker 3 (57:06):
Yes, always good to have you on the grid. Now,
this is an interesting day of movie openings because you
get one movie that one of our staff here has
been looking forward to for nineteen years, and then and
then the other one is has been described as the
most most authentically Charlotte movie ever made.
Speaker 14 (57:24):
We'll get no, that's very accurate. Okay, very very accurate.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
Well hold your thought on that one for a second.
Let's start with the Tron Ares, which hits theaters today
and Steve. Steve's going to be part of this too,
because he knows way more about Tron than me, and
obviously Sean does. But how many Tron.
Speaker 18 (57:41):
Movies is this now? Well?
Speaker 3 (57:42):
This will be the third. This is the third.
Speaker 16 (57:44):
And it still blows my mind, the child of the
eighties that you are, that you have never seen the original,
let alone Tron Legacy from fifteen years ago.
Speaker 3 (57:53):
I have not, Sean O'Connell, you are Are you a
Tron guy? I know you've seen it, but are you
were you a huge fan of the other two?
Speaker 23 (58:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (58:01):
No, not really no, And in fact I saw Tron
much later in life.
Speaker 14 (58:08):
I kind of watched the first one to prep for Legacy.
Speaker 8 (58:12):
Which is the second one that came out, And when
I watched it, I was like, really, this is what
it is.
Speaker 16 (58:18):
You know, Sean, we got along so well until about
thirty five seconds ago.
Speaker 8 (58:22):
Well, like, I'm sure that the effects in nineteen eighty two,
I want to say this were impressive, but like, it's
real cheesy. It looks really cheesy, kind of goofy. But
then Legacy was great, Like Legacy took the idea and
applied you know, modern technology and allowed them to sort
(58:43):
of tell this story that's set within a computer world.
Speaker 14 (58:46):
And I was like, oh, yeah, this is way more.
I understand why people are super into this.
Speaker 3 (58:49):
And so you're speaking of are you speaking of the
cheesy one? Is the original or the one that comes
out today?
Speaker 14 (58:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (58:56):
No, the original?
Speaker 3 (58:57):
Okay, so let's get to the one. Let's fast forward
to the one it comes out today. This is a
PG thirteen rated. This is a Disney again at the
Helm for Tron ares. Now, Sean, you have seen this
and Steve is waiting because you didn't see it last night,
did you, Steve? No? No, So Steve has not seen
this yet. So now we're all waiting to see what
you thought of the new one.
Speaker 8 (59:17):
It's a ton of fun and I think that Steve
is going to dig it. But I will say this
as a caveat, I don't think that it was developed
like as a natural Tron sequel.
Speaker 12 (59:31):
I think that Disney had a.
Speaker 8 (59:33):
Screenplay for an idea about, hey, what if we figured
out how to bring Ai out of the computer and
into our world, and then someone along the lines was like, hey,
you know, this could also be a Tron sequel because
there's Tron elements in the movie, and Steve, maybe this
(59:54):
will bother you if you're a big time fan that
you might be like, oh, they didn't weave this in enough.
But literally, if you took the Tron elements out of
this movie, you would have the exact same movie kind
of thing. So I enjoyed it for what it was,
and the visual effects look fantastic, and the story at
the heart of what's going on, which is there's an
evil corporation. They want to bring the AI elements, you know,
(01:00:18):
out of the computer and into our world so that
we can create soldiers and armies that never get tired,
that don't have to be fed, you know, that can
fight relentlessly. But you know they also then be like, yeah,
but they're part of the grid too, and connect it
to the Tron universe. Those are the parts that I
thought felt a little bit forced, but I still thought
I was like, oh, this is still really entertaining. And
(01:00:39):
the score, So the score for Tron Legacy, which was
the second one, was done by dass Punk and got
a lot of attention because people really dug the techno
aspect of it this time.
Speaker 14 (01:00:49):
Now they get nine inch.
Speaker 8 (01:00:50):
Nails and the score is unbelievable, Like it adds so
much to the action because it is this driving, sort
of techno beat, and so when you're sitting in a
theat and that's pumping out of the speakers, that adds
to the atmosphere of it. I would absolutely recommend it.
But if you're a huge Tron heads like Steve, I'm
gonna be really curious if you like it just because
you're happy to see Tron again, or if you're kind
(01:01:11):
of bummed, like, ah, they really shoehorn Tron onto the
story that it doesn't really fit to Well.
Speaker 16 (01:01:16):
It's interesting that you say that, Sean, because this was
kind of the same general thing that I had heard
or read, I should say from some of the other
reviews were basically that it looks amazing, it sounds incredible,
and it's kind of your quote unquote typical Disney film
of like you kind of know what the story is going,
(01:01:36):
like where what the story beats will be.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
You know, it's Disney.
Speaker 16 (01:01:41):
It's kind of like a textbook, a cookie cutter Disney
in that, you know, good guys always win type of scenario.
But that if you are if you are a Tron
guy as I am, that there will be those moments
where you go, wait, shouldn't they be talking about more
about you know, Flynn or Dillinger, the MC or you know,
what have you. And like you said, it was kind
(01:02:02):
of one of those like if it wasn't labeled as
Tron Aries, you could have just called the movie Aries
and it would have been its own thing.
Speaker 8 (01:02:10):
And you'll see specifically, and what I'll mention is, you
know that there's an element that involves Jeff Bridges, who
of course was you know, in the original Tron.
Speaker 14 (01:02:21):
He doesn't play the character Tron. He plays someone different.
He does show up in this film.
Speaker 8 (01:02:26):
That's not a secret.
Speaker 14 (01:02:26):
Everyone knows that he's in it.
Speaker 8 (01:02:28):
When you get to that part of the movie, you'll realize, like, oh,
they filmed this because Jeff Bridges agreed to do a
day or two on set.
Speaker 6 (01:02:37):
And we just inserted it into a film.
Speaker 8 (01:02:40):
And if he didn't agree to do it, we still
had a movie.
Speaker 14 (01:02:42):
We were okay.
Speaker 8 (01:02:44):
In fact, it's my theory that he probably shot it
against the green screen in his in his Malibu mansion someplace.
And even though he's in a scene with Jared Leto,
I'm convinced the two have never met before.
Speaker 6 (01:02:56):
Oh that's funny. Well, let's let's switch gears to the
most Charlotte movie ever. Also, I'm like a secret fan
of Channing Tatum, like ever since twenty one Jump Street.
I just think he's hilarious. Roof Man debuted last weekend right,
and it is a true story of Jeffrey Manchester who
hit out in a Toys r Us on Independence Boulevard.
Speaker 8 (01:03:19):
Yeah so, Beth, I don't really even remember this story
when it was a thing, which is funny because I've
heard plenty of people tell me about it. But it
does make for a really fun interesting movie. You know,
he gets arrested for a different reason, he figures out
how to break out of the prison.
Speaker 14 (01:03:39):
And while he's on the run but still wanting to
connect with his wife and his child who he has
left behind, who he's a bit.
Speaker 8 (01:03:48):
Estranged from, he does figure out a way to hide
out in this Toys r us and then they take
the story into some Hollywood.
Speaker 14 (01:03:55):
You know areas where he you know, starts to fall
in love with the character played by Keirstonde.
Speaker 8 (01:04:01):
But all of that is still true to the story,
like the woman who Cares and Dun's plays is an
actual Charlotte woman who has told this story, so it exists.
Speaker 14 (01:04:09):
But here's what I love about it.
Speaker 8 (01:04:10):
So they filmed in Charlotte. They used the Toys r
Us that's over in Pineville, the one that's near Carolina
Plays Mall. They use a bunch of locations that are
over off like Pinebeum Matthews Road, and they have a
date at Freedom Park. But it's not like you know,
previous movies that have shot in Charlotte, whether it be
Shallow Howe or Talladega Knights, where it's you know, we
(01:04:32):
are a fill in for some locust city. They talk
about Charlotte, and they talk about Charlotte things, and they
talk about you know, churches that are here in the
areas and restaurants that are in the areas, and and
Charlotte is almost.
Speaker 14 (01:04:43):
A character in the movie, which I loved. I think
that that's fantastic.
Speaker 12 (01:04:47):
So yeah, it was really cool.
Speaker 8 (01:04:49):
I got to see this up at the New Carolina Theater,
the one that they just renovated up in the city,
and it was the opening night for the Charlotte Film Festival.
And the director at the time, his name is Derek
c And France. He talked about how he really pushed
Paramount Pictures to make this the debut, you know, the
opening night of the Charlotte Film Festival, because he used
so much local crew here and shot in the area
(01:05:11):
and lived here while he was researching it and just
really fell in love.
Speaker 14 (01:05:14):
With the area. So I thought that was super cool.
Speaker 8 (01:05:17):
And I've been hearing that it's a bit of a
boon to the area that more you know, directors are
now looking at Charlotte, at Wilmington, at ashvillam and maybe
starting to bring some filmmaking opportunities back here. So we'll see,
maybe Rufman kicks off something that we can you know,
build on for the coming years.
Speaker 6 (01:05:35):
Oh that thrills me that it might because in North Carolina,
and people don't know this. North Carolina used to be
the third largest hub for filmmaking, and tax credits kind
of changed that and moved things to Georgia and to Louisiana.
But if it brings filmmaking back here, that's thrilling. And
I mis spoke they moved the premiere dat it actually
does premiere today. It didn't premiere last week. It premieres
(01:05:56):
in theaters today.
Speaker 8 (01:05:57):
Well, it's worth going out to see, and it's worth
going out to support a Charlotte production. But it's also
just entertaining. It's a fun kind of It's got some
action elements, it's got some comedy elements, got a little
bit of a romantic comedy element to it.
Speaker 14 (01:06:09):
I here's some dun.
Speaker 12 (01:06:11):
You know, she doesn't do a ton for me as
an actress.
Speaker 14 (01:06:14):
I think she's a little bit boring. But Channing Tatum
is charismatic to the hill.
Speaker 6 (01:06:19):
Oh I just love him.
Speaker 8 (01:06:21):
Yeah, he's great in this movie, really fantastic in this
and so yeah, I can't recommend it enough.
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
Does Rufman have any nine inch Nails songs in it?
Speaker 8 (01:06:30):
It doesn't unless you bring your Walkman with you and
just listen to it while you're.
Speaker 18 (01:06:34):
Listening to the movie.
Speaker 3 (01:06:34):
That's what Steve does anyway, walks around everywhere with this walkman.
And yeah, my Tron soundtrack on vinyl is very portable.
Speaker 12 (01:06:41):
Walkman.
Speaker 8 (01:06:42):
Let me explain what a walkman is to the young
kids who are listening CBR.
Speaker 3 (01:06:46):
He's the deputy editor and he joins us. You know,
whenever we got big movies opening up on Fridays and
today today qualifies and they got some more coming up
in the coming week, so we'll talk to you again
soon hopefully. Sean O'Connell, thank you so much.
Speaker 14 (01:06:59):
Have a great weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:07:01):
This is good morning, bet.
Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
All right, it's News Talk eleven ten WBT. President Trump
yesterday talking about what has happened in the Middle East
and could he be the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Speaker 24 (01:07:15):
Nobody in history has solved eight wars in a period
of nine months, and I've stopped eight wars, so that's
never happened before.
Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
But they'll have to do what they do. Whatever they
do is fine.
Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
I know this.
Speaker 24 (01:07:30):
I didn't do it for that. I did it because
I saved a lot of lives. And that's the thing
that bothers me so much. About the Russia Ukraine. Seven
thousand people are dying a week, young soldiers. They're almost
all soldiers of Ukraine and Russia. So in theory it
doesn't affect us. No, but it's a terrible thing and
we'll get that solved too. But nobody has ever done
(01:07:52):
eight wars. Nobody's done eight wars in thirty years, let
alone nine months.
Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
He was talking. He was asked about the prospect of
possible being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. We do know
now that it is not President Trump.
Speaker 12 (01:08:05):
For this year.
Speaker 6 (01:08:06):
Right in Oslo, they have made the announcement that Venezuelan
opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who lives in hiding actually one,
has won the twenty twenty five Nobel Peace Prize. She
won it today for what they say, for fighting dictatorships
within her country. Receiving the award, she's fifty eight years old,
(01:08:26):
an industrial engineer. She was blocked in twenty twenty four
by Venezuela's courts from running for president, thus challenging President
Nicholas Maduro, who has been in power since twenty thirteen.
And one of the reasons that she is considered a
note or is now the Nobel Peace Prize recipient, they say,
(01:08:48):
is because she stood up to authoritarianism, did not leave
the country even though she has received numerous death threats.
That she has inspired a nation and united a divided
nation because of her desire and this is according to
reports coming out of Oslo, her desire to stand up
against authoritarianism.
Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
And there's only one prize winner per year.
Speaker 6 (01:09:11):
Correct, she is the twenty twenty five Nobel Peace Prize winner.
This year.
Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
So that is a new this morning coming up on
Good Morning BT. This is going to be a fun
half hour because I mean anytime you have people coming
in to actually sing to us.
Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
Right singing to us, serenading us, and publicizing a really
big event that's happening today and tomorrow here.
Speaker 7 (01:09:35):
In Charlotte that you are going to be a part of.
Speaker 6 (01:09:38):
I will be part of this evening's festivities. I will
be in seeing a really cool concert that this group
that's coming in will be headlining. And they are actually
headed to huff High School right after they leave our
show to work in a clinic, if you will, with
a ton of high school choral singers.
Speaker 1 (01:09:57):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
I will, and we will hear from that coming up,
they're they're warming up in the green room, I think.
Speaker 12 (01:10:02):
I hope.
Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
And they have a green room. Well, it's it's a room.
It's a room that I thought I missed some well construction.
People like us never get to go to that room. Mark,
we're stuck in these rooms.
Speaker 6 (01:10:15):
The men's bathroom where the acoustics are great in there.
Speaker 7 (01:10:18):
Yeah, and by Beth, she never gets to go there.
It also sounded like that's where the congressman was in
his interview this morning. There was a bit of an echo.
Was yes, there was shaving there.
Speaker 8 (01:10:29):
Mark.
Speaker 3 (01:10:37):
Actually it's not too bad. It's three and a half.
Speaker 14 (01:10:42):
Now, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:10:43):
I have taken it upon myself in my later years
here to keep keep the old jingles alive on this
great radio station that now is one hundred and three
years old. And I love playing those from time to time.
And I know a lot of you listening, the old
schoolers like to hear them too. But it's one thing
to play an old jingle from the archives. It's another
(01:11:03):
thing to have a WBT jingle song live on the air,
like we're gonna do.
Speaker 5 (01:11:08):
Right now WPT.
Speaker 3 (01:11:13):
I like how you let that on a Friday morning.
Speaker 6 (01:11:15):
I have cold chills. You were listening to the vocal
stylings of World Champion Quartet three and a half.
Speaker 19 (01:11:23):
Men. Welcome so much.
Speaker 6 (01:11:27):
We are so so thrilled to have you here. Now
you're not from the Charlotte area. You flew in yesterday from.
Speaker 25 (01:11:33):
Blew in yesterday from Orlando, Florida.
Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
Okay, from Orlando's actually a beautiful flight.
Speaker 1 (01:11:38):
Oh good, it was great.
Speaker 25 (01:11:39):
Just we've been the last several weeks. We've been in
Alaska in Anchorage, and then a couple of weeks ago
we were in New Zealand. So this commute from home
was really wonderful.
Speaker 6 (01:11:48):
Well, yeah, this was what a two hour flight versus
a twenty one.
Speaker 25 (01:11:54):
We were just starting to get comfy and there were
on our approach. We're like, oh my gosh, this is
so beautiful.
Speaker 6 (01:11:58):
So we were happy, and you are here for a
very special event that begins today, which I love this.
You are inspiring the young people to really embrace choral music,
to embrace the barbershop quartet, and to embrace what it
does to your mind, to your body to sing.
Speaker 25 (01:12:17):
Absolutely well we're hoping so anyway, but we're gathering in
huff High School with about one hundred and fifty students
from I believe five different high schools little schools around
the area, and yeah, we're just going to go there
and throw some harmony their way. I mean, there are
already music school, music school students who are enjoying singing
in choral music, but we're going to throw in this
(01:12:38):
little different branch of harmony called barbershop through the day
today and also have some time to work with them
as on some of their pieces that they're bringing along
because we're all professional musicians along the way, and I'd
like to say we're barbershop experts, but not necessarily because
of our championship or singing, just we've been around the
style for so very, very long, So we're thrilled to
(01:12:59):
be a to be here today and sing some songs
and again hopefully inspire some even further harmony in their lives.
Speaker 6 (01:13:06):
And there's a big performance tonight after you do the
clinic all day today, those students are going to perform.
I say tonight because I get up at three thirty
in the morning.
Speaker 11 (01:13:15):
Good.
Speaker 6 (01:13:15):
The event is at hof High School at four. It
begins at four thirty this afternoon four thirty.
Speaker 25 (01:13:19):
They're going to have a little mini shows what they're
going to have. So the kids that are going to
come in are going to be working.
Speaker 5 (01:13:23):
On a song that we've sent them, and we'll see
how that goes.
Speaker 25 (01:13:27):
Because we know that we've already heard from the teachers.
They're so involved in so many other things. So we're
going to go as far as we can with that
material that we're bringing. But we also have some stuff
that'll be a little bit more approachable that we can
throw to them literally in the moment. So no matter what,
the show is going to have some fun four part harmony,
barbershop harmony from them. But also, as I mentioned earlier,
they're going to be bringing some material as well that
they have been working on.
Speaker 3 (01:13:47):
So either way, the show's.
Speaker 25 (01:13:48):
Going to end up being lots of vocal harmony and
lots of fun with a bunch of kids who just
love singing, which is a beautiful thing.
Speaker 3 (01:13:54):
Now you guys have some other things to sing for us,
is that right?
Speaker 11 (01:13:57):
Of course?
Speaker 18 (01:13:57):
Okay? Sing so much?
Speaker 3 (01:13:59):
So I want to introduce everybody though, because we have
four of you, three and a half.
Speaker 6 (01:14:06):
Who's the half?
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
Yeah, we.
Speaker 25 (01:14:09):
Can't really share that on our air, I joke, I kid,
all right, So it's just a good conversation real quick.
Speaker 3 (01:14:16):
One by one, introduce yourself so we know who we're
taking your vocal part thing.
Speaker 25 (01:14:20):
My name is Tony DeRosa. As mentioned, we're all from Orlando, Florida.
I've been in barbershop for forty.
Speaker 11 (01:14:25):
Five years now.
Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
I started when I was seven years old, and.
Speaker 25 (01:14:29):
Let's see, I sing baritone with three and a half men,
which we properly call the garbage part because I get
all the leftover notes.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
My name is Chris Keo.
Speaker 26 (01:14:39):
I'm originally from Columbus, Georgia, and I sing bass basso.
Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
We all sing bass this morning, we all see based
before noon.
Speaker 6 (01:14:48):
It is early. It is early for singing.
Speaker 11 (01:14:50):
Oh good.
Speaker 27 (01:14:51):
This is Josh Solomyer speaking of from Anaheim, California, and
I've been seeing Barbara shop for about twenty years, and
I sing lead in this quartet, which is the melody.
Speaker 8 (01:14:58):
Okay, here you go.
Speaker 3 (01:15:00):
And my name is Joseph de Rosa. I'm from Orlando, Florida.
Speaker 17 (01:15:03):
I've been doing I've been singing barbershop for fifteen years
and I sing tenor Well.

is Tony DeRosa. His name is Joseph, So that's my son.
Speaker 6 (01:15:18):

Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Yeah, and I'm not sure if you know. Also that's Josh.
Speaker 25 (01:15:26):
What's your last name again, Solomon de Rosa?
Speaker 11 (01:15:28):
That's what I thought.
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
This is my friend. This is my good friend, Chris.
What was that?
Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
And we should also mention that our good buddy Wally
from the gold Standard Barbershop is with us. Good morning,
and and we we see you guys several times a year,
and so it's it's awesome to have you joining them
and bringing them to the studio and are you what's
your parton and all the festivities This weekend.
Speaker 23 (01:15:55):
The gold Standard Course is celebrating our seventy fifth anniversary
for being around Charlotte.
Speaker 10 (01:16:00):
Here we go.
Speaker 23 (01:16:01):
It's a big thing we're celebrating by bringing bringing some
of our heroes in. These guys are heroes and the hobby.
Speaker 3 (01:16:08):
Wait, you said seventy five years. Yes, at WT we say.
Speaker 18 (01:16:11):
Young and young and.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
They're very well preserved.
Speaker 6 (01:16:17):
We're so thrilled to have you all. And it was
because of the gold Standard Chorus that I even got
invited to MC tonight's or this afternoon's event. Can folks
still get tickets to this afternoon's event. I know that
a lot of parents will be there for the students,
but you all are going to be performing as well tonight.
Can people come out and see the event?
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
Yes, there are tickets available.
Speaker 23 (01:16:38):
You'll have to get into huff High School for the
event this afternoon, and sometimes getting into a school in
the middle of the day can be a challenge, but
we do have an event tomorrow afternoon at two thirty
in the afternoon.
Speaker 11 (01:16:49):
At Trinity Presbyterian.
Speaker 3 (01:16:51):
Okay, and you can actually look at that online.
Speaker 11 (01:16:54):
I'm going to leave some tickets with you too.
Speaker 2 (01:16:56):
Oh yeah, to give it special prizes.
Speaker 5 (01:16:58):
All right, that's awesome.
Speaker 6 (01:17:00):
So you guys are performing. You're here for two performances
this afternoon at HUF High School, plus you're running the
clinic for the students, and then a big performance tomorrow
at the Presbyteria. Trinity Presbyterian really is the bigger performance
for us.
Speaker 25 (01:17:11):
We'll do a couple of songs today, but today's all
about the kids.
Speaker 11 (01:17:14):
And featuring them, and then tomorrow.
Speaker 25 (01:17:15):
Is more of the feature for us, along with the
chorus and their quartets, which will be a big celebration.
Speaker 6 (01:17:20):
Well, we're thrilled to feature you this morning on Good
Morning btning.
Speaker 28 (01:17:31):
There's a place I'd like to be and it's back
in Tennessee. We're your friendly neighbors, smiling say hello. It's
a pleasure and a tree to me and down the street.

Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
Dear horsel tarts. In general, people who live.
Speaker 28 (01:18:39):
In love in my bever So home.
Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
With friends who live in my home.
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
Time in my home.
Speaker 6 (01:19:01):
Oh gosh, that key change.
Speaker 5 (01:19:05):
Guys, Holy, we're supposed to be That was incredible.
Speaker 6 (01:19:14):
That was unbelievably incredible. If you are just joining us,
you were listening to the world champion quartet three and
a half men live here in our studio. Gentlemen, Holy moly,
no wonder you're the world champs.
Speaker 3 (01:19:28):
Yeah, you can do that at this hour of the day.
I know because I'm not a singer, but I know
singers have to warm up their voices and do all
the calistenics and to be able to pull that off
that you just did at eight fifty two, that was
mighty impressive.
Speaker 18 (01:19:41):
All right, vocal push ups.
Speaker 11 (01:19:42):
Since six am.
Speaker 3 (01:19:45):
Bo was a dancer, I think he's not really a
good singer. But no, no, I'm the DJ because I
can't do any of that stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:19:52):
If you're a dancer, get up.
Speaker 3 (01:19:54):
No no, no, no, no, no, no no no. I'm
not a dancer. So so what do you all do,
like to to get ready for? I mean, a show
is one thing, but just to be ready to do
what you just did, which is show worthy? What did
you have to do this morning?
Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
It depends on the individual.
Speaker 25 (01:20:09):
Actually, uh, I was up at five thirty as the
old man of the crowd.
Speaker 5 (01:20:13):
Lunch time boys.
Speaker 7 (01:20:15):
Yeah, by thirty last night I got when you went
to bed.
Speaker 3 (01:20:18):
Uh No.
Speaker 25 (01:20:19):
But you know which I didn't have to do a
lot of years ago some of the rest of us.
Speaker 2 (01:20:22):
What'd y'all do? I got up a.
Speaker 27 (01:20:25):
Little after seven, and it took a hot shower, just
doing bubbles and the kind of stuff.
Speaker 6 (01:20:32):
Yang yang.
Speaker 27 (01:20:32):
We all have funny things that we do as singers,
you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, yea yeah yah yan yeah,
gott got got you know, just to get your voice moving, yeah, good, yeah,
all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 12 (01:20:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20:44):
I didn't do any of that exactly.
Speaker 8 (01:20:47):
I just got.
Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
That's what happened.
Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
But that's the cool thing about this quartet.
Speaker 26 (01:20:54):
We all respect each other so much that we just
kind of show up ready to go, and then we
we sang a little thing called a polecat, which is
just a traditional barbershop standard that almost every barber shopper
knows to warm up our voices together, so basically to
find our sound, but our individual voices, like Tony said,
are our individual responsibility.
Speaker 6 (01:21:14):
So well, you all are so incredibly talented, and you
are here in the Charlotte area from Orlando for the
Youth and Harmony event. You're running a clinic today for
young people from high schools all across the area who
will be performing at four point thirty this afternoon. I'm
excited to be m seeing that event. But then you're
headlining an event tomorrow.
Speaker 29 (01:21:33):
Yes, yeah, we're doing the show with the Harmony Gold Course,
the Gold Standard Course at Trinity Presbyterian Church tomorrow afternoon,
which will be a lot of fun.
Speaker 25 (01:21:43):
You could find tickets available at www. That sends for
the worldwide Web folks dot Gold Standard Course dot ORGRG
along the way. Also something we want to say that
we're here also in addition to the course, funding and
core support through the generous donations and outreach from the association,
(01:22:03):
of International Champions and Harmony Foundation International, which are two
organizations with our overall Barbershop Harmony Society that have partnered
with chapters all around our country actually to bring quartets
of this caliber International Champion quartets to local communities, get
out into the community and hopefully into high schools, middle
schools around around our country to be able to bring
(01:22:25):
Barbara Shop abroad. So I want to make sure we
make a shout out to them as well as.
Speaker 3 (01:22:29):
There well, I want to make sure we get we
have time to do the second song, because I know
you have a second one. This is three and a
half men, and we'll remind people when this is over
how again how to get in touch with you guys,
and how to see you this weekend. But once again,
the stage is yours on WBT.
Speaker 2 (01:22:45):
After you've gone and left me Crime. After you've gone,
there's old nine.
Speaker 6 (01:22:56):
You feel, you feel sad.
Speaker 2 (01:23:01):
You're gonna miss you miss a dearest bell that you've
ever had. They'll come a time.
Speaker 11 (01:23:10):
I'm no, don't for Jeanny.
Speaker 2 (01:23:12):
They'll come at side.
Speaker 28 (01:23:16):
When you regretted so shot day, when you grow lonely,
your heart, your heart will.
Speaker 5 (01:23:25):
Break like mind and you want me only.
Speaker 28 (01:23:29):
After you've gone, after you've gone. No way, after you've gone,
and let me crying. After you've gone, there's.
Speaker 3 (01:23:42):
No D nine.
Speaker 19 (01:23:43):
You feel blue, you feel sad.
Speaker 28 (01:23:46):
You know you miss the dearest bell you've ever had.
They'll come a time gone, forget it.
Speaker 2 (01:23:53):
They'll come a.
Speaker 28 (01:23:54):
Time when you regretted. Some day, when you go lonely,
you'll break. Can you want me only after you've gone,
after you've.
Speaker 2 (01:24:06):
Gone, only you baby shot.
Speaker 28 (01:24:16):
When you grow lonely, my lord will break like mine,
And you want me only.
Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
After you've gone, after you've gone.
Speaker 28 (01:24:30):
Oh, bah bah bah bah bah bah bah bah bah
bah bah bah bah bah by my.
Speaker 2 (01:24:36):
Daily has gone.
Speaker 8 (01:24:48):
So far?
Speaker 3 (01:25:02):
What we started clapping too early?
Speaker 6 (01:25:09):
Well, lit's say and blown away. Gentlemen.
Speaker 26 (01:25:11):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 3 (01:25:12):
I've been working in this this building, in this room
for going on thirty years, and I am here to
tell you that's one of the most amazing things I've
ever heard and seen behind these microphones ever. I mean,
the talent and the how you how together you got.
I mean, you're you're world champion, so I mean, come on,
but to see what you all just did with each
other and and and that's amazing. That's that's incredible talent
(01:25:35):
right there.
Speaker 2 (01:25:35):
This is awesome too, man. So it is a live sport.
Speaker 25 (01:25:40):
You here, recorded and so forth, but when you're in
the presence of it. That's why we love being able
to go out and do live performances along the way,
especially coming out of the you know, the world that
we were in about five years ago, whatever the pandemic
and you got cooped up and everything else. To experience
things live and hear live acoustic singing along the way,
it's a joy in a jam.
Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
I'm blown away.
Speaker 12 (01:25:58):
You got.
Speaker 3 (01:25:59):
I mean, I knew you guys are gonna be great,
but I mean, that's another level what we just saw
right now there.
Speaker 6 (01:26:02):
It's next low. I don't think there's a word for it.
Great's not good enough. It's not good enough.
Speaker 3 (01:26:07):
And listen, guys are we talk all the time, Beth
and I talk about using this powerful radio signal for
the good. And I hope that there's some young kids
who just heard that who have been inspired to go
and sing like that, because that right there is just incredible.
So again, let's make sure we tell people how to
see more of this event at huff High.
Speaker 6 (01:26:27):
Today starting at four thirty. That's with some youth choral
members from schools all over the area. You guys will
be performing running the clinic today and then tomorrow at
two o'clock two thirty, sorry two thirty at twenty Presbyterian Church.
And you can go to the gold Standard Chorus dot
com dot org, dot org, dot org, the gold Standard
Coorse dot org and grab tickets. Wally's the spokesperson, and
(01:26:50):
I have some.
Speaker 3 (01:26:50):
Tickets here and Wally, of course the gold Standard Court
Barbershop Quartet that we have on our show several times
a year. We love you guys, and we appreciate you
being here and bringing these guys to us as well.
Speaker 23 (01:27:00):
You guys are very gracious and help us promote our
Singing Valentine Project and a lot of different things that
we do.
Speaker 2 (01:27:06):
We love WBT Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:27:08):
So three and a half men, Can you guys take
us out with the jingle again? Can we do that?
Speaker 2 (01:27:12):
Of course?
Speaker 3 (01:27:13):
All right, So thank you very much. We love you guys,
and again one more time, the floor is yours w BT.
Speaker 10 (01:27:22):
Okay, well we'll take this home run through them with
a fine tooth comb, cross the t's and dot the
floor case chase.
Speaker 1 (01:27:30):
From Me's talk eleven ten and ninety nine three w BT.
Speaker 8 (01:27:34):
Come on cut, it's some special boy.
Speaker 1 (01:27:37):
This is good Morning Bet with Bo Thompson and Beth Trout.
Speaker 11 (01:27:41):
Then all right, that was a lot of fun right there.
Speaker 3 (01:27:43):
We're going for the whole buffet crab.
Speaker 18 (01:27:46):
And so all these places that seem monumental and seem
so grand, the further we have gone into it, in
the more years that have passed, we live back and
they don't look grand anymore. They look small. But when
we first played on John's Show, it felt like the
big time. And I'm not joking. It still feels like
the big time when we get to play on John Show,
and there's something about it that just feels so significant
(01:28:10):
and and like the big time. So John, thank you
for letting us be on the big time. Thank you.
This one's called No Hard Feelings.
Speaker 22 (01:28:51):
When my body won't hold me anymore and it finally.
Speaker 19 (01:28:58):
Lets me free.
Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
Will I be ready.
Speaker 19 (01:29:07):
When my feet won't walk another mile.
Speaker 3 (01:29:10):
And my lips give that last.
Speaker 19 (01:29:14):
Kiss goodbye?
Speaker 22 (01:29:17):
When my hands be steady, when I lay down my fears,
my hopes and my doubts, the rings on my fingers
and the keys to my house, with no.
Speaker 19 (01:29:34):
Hard feelings, When the sun hangs.
Speaker 3 (01:29:45):
Low in the west, and the light in my chest.
Speaker 19 (01:29:50):
Won't be kept.
Speaker 22 (01:29:53):
Held at bay any longer, when the jealous he fades away,
and it's ash and dust for cash and lust, and
it's just Hallelujah.
Speaker 4 (01:30:13):
And love and thought, love in the words, love in
the songs they sing in the church, and know.
Speaker 19 (01:30:26):
Hard feelings, Lord knows they.
Speaker 30 (01:30:34):
Haven't done much good for a anyone kept me afraid
and cold.
Speaker 19 (01:30:52):
With so much to have, And hold.
Speaker 3 (01:31:02):
That right there. The Avitt Brothers from wbt's ninety fifth
anniversary celebration back in twenty seventeen, and that was the
end of the night where John Hancock, who's sitting across
from me right now, was inducted into the WBT Hall
of Fame along with Henry Bogan and Ray Gooding. But
I played that right there because I had a similar
(01:31:23):
feeling during our previous segment. There have been a few
times over the years when I've worked here, and that
particular moment wasn't on the air. That was at our
event that was at the Levigne Center for the Arts,
but I was am seeing the event, so I had
the opportunity to be about five feet away from Seth
and Scott when they sang that as part of your
(01:31:44):
celebration there and they dedicated those songs to you. But
I watched them sing together in harmony, and just a
few times in my life have I been just in
awe of just talent like that. And I had a
moment like that a few minutes ago when we had
had three and a half men in here, the Barbershop Quartet,
nationally recognized and one Awards Champs. But I mean, I
(01:32:07):
think you heard why I mean, and I knew what
we were about to hear. I don't think I was
prepared for the level of talent, talent and precision that
that was. But I immediately thought of the time I
got to see the Avit's just because I was lucky
enough to be part of that event that night, and
they were there for you, John, and they sat through
(01:32:27):
the whole thing and then came up there and the
two of them and just one acoustic instrument did what
you just heard. And sometimes, you know, we hear rock
and roll bands and instruments and reverb and all this stuff,
and then every once in a while you're next to
something where it's like, wow, this the raw talent just
kind of blows you away, And so I played that
(01:32:48):
because I thought, here comes John and it's a good
thing to look back at that awesome night. But you know,
when you when you're when you're that close to talent
of that scope, it's just kind of courses through your
Van has done that best.
Speaker 6 (01:33:00):
Yeah, can I just say Hancock the quartet three and
a half men, I am in I'm in physical pain.
They were so good, like it hurt. They were so
good because I got chills and my heart ached and
it just sang with joy. It was all the like,
my boy, I'm worn out. I'm worn out because they
were so good. Is that does that make sense?
Speaker 8 (01:33:18):
Well?
Speaker 31 (01:33:19):
Yeah, I've had Wally Miles, who was.
Speaker 11 (01:33:23):
It was with them?
Speaker 6 (01:33:25):
Yeah, from the gold standard course.
Speaker 31 (01:33:28):
I consider him to be a good friend and and
I was thinking about him and he's the first guy
bumped into a walk down the hall. But it's anytime
you're in the studio and the quartet's coming in through here,
you see not only a camaraderie, but a an ability
(01:33:51):
to work together. And like a well tuned engine, you know,
every every piston's doing exactly what.
Speaker 18 (01:33:59):
It's supposed to do.
Speaker 6 (01:34:01):
That's a great way to desci.
Speaker 31 (01:34:02):
That's what you don't see here, the hours and hours
and hours and hours that it takes to get to
that level. But no, they're they're they're they're they're excellent,
They're they're unbelievable.
Speaker 6 (01:34:14):
I'm so moved that I can't I physically, I physically
can't find words to describe. I mean, you you know
this about me, John, of course, you guys in here
know this. Music is my love language. I mean, I
just music just it hurts.
Speaker 1 (01:34:29):
It's so good, it just hurts.
Speaker 18 (01:34:31):
It's so good.
Speaker 3 (01:34:32):
It hurts so good it does.
Speaker 6 (01:34:34):
It hurts so good music. But the three and a
half men, I I might become a groupie. Would it
be weird if I just like went around and toured.
Speaker 11 (01:34:42):
Yes, Beth, you're married.
Speaker 31 (01:34:45):
Just to listen to and perform bo I think you
should have the quartets in here every week and shut
her up.
Speaker 3 (01:34:55):
Well listen. I thought that was an appropriate way to
start the show off with handcoff in the final hour
when we come back the special edition of the Friday
News Quiz that Hancock, you didn't know this, but you're
gonna be part of the news Quiz this week. We
had to move things around because of the barbershop quartet
that we had. Uh So we're gonna do a little
news quizz and then we're gonna do there we go.
(01:35:15):
Then we're gonna have the of course big weekend coming
up at nine thirty five and much more on a
busy Friday morning. Hancock, Beth bo and the crew.
Speaker 1 (01:35:24):
This is good morning Beatty with both Hudson and Beth
Trout bit.
Speaker 3 (01:35:30):
All right, nine twenty one on WBT. We've had to
move some things around this morning, but the Friday news
quiz is finally here. And today you know, Zoke is
off today, so it's fitting that we have a contestant
in his place. We have Charlotte's most beloved John Hancock
all right to take part with this, and of course
the master of ceremonies, as always is Mark Harrison. Look
at very much.
Speaker 7 (01:35:51):
Today is Dale Earnhardt Junior's birthday.
Speaker 2 (01:35:54):
Did you know that?
Speaker 12 (01:35:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:35:56):
Okay, you do now, John Hancock did. He wins.
Speaker 7 (01:36:00):
He holds the record for winning the NASCAR Most Popular
Driver Award? How many straight years? Nine, fifteen or eighteen?
Speaker 11 (01:36:13):
I'll go with fifteen.
Speaker 31 (01:36:15):
Elliott won that used to win that every year. You
went a long time. I'm going to say fifteen, I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:36:22):
Going to say eighteen. I'm going with Hancock fifteen.
Speaker 6 (01:36:25):
I'm gonna say nine, just to be different.
Speaker 11 (01:36:27):
Should Boom, Well you think Boomer.
Speaker 3 (01:36:28):
Hobo go eighteen, Earnhart, the number is fifteen years.
Speaker 6 (01:36:37):
I missed it.
Speaker 3 (01:36:39):
So there's a surprise.
Speaker 6 (01:36:42):
Salty today.
Speaker 12 (01:36:43):
I know.
Speaker 7 (01:36:45):
So today is also National Handbag Day?
Speaker 6 (01:36:49):
Well, yes, of course it is.
Speaker 7 (01:36:50):
Yes, how many handbags does the average American woman have?
Speaker 18 (01:36:54):
Eleven?
Speaker 7 (01:36:55):
Nineteen or twenty seven?
Speaker 3 (01:37:00):
Everybody's staring at Bath.
Speaker 11 (01:37:01):
I I'll go nineteen.
Speaker 6 (01:37:05):
You I'm gonna say nineteen.
Speaker 3 (01:37:08):
Wow, okay, nineteen, I'll go with the first one.
Speaker 7 (01:37:11):
Eleven eleven Ye, all right, So we had to hear
from John and Boomer, and that's what I'm looking at.
Speaker 11 (01:37:16):
Eleven.
Speaker 31 (01:37:18):
The average woman is got me thrown off? Is there one.
Speaker 11 (01:37:25):
Somewhere?
Speaker 6 (01:37:26):
We're all unique and wonderful.
Speaker 11 (01:37:27):
We're out there.
Speaker 3 (01:37:29):
I'll go eleven and the number is at eleven.
Speaker 6 (01:37:32):
Wow, I have too many handbags?
Speaker 3 (01:37:34):
How many do you have?
Speaker 11 (01:37:35):
Bath?
Speaker 6 (01:37:36):
I was trying to count them. It was trying to
count in my in my head because they have to
match different outfits.
Speaker 7 (01:37:41):
And shoes and six with their sizes.
Speaker 6 (01:37:43):
I do have two today, I have two with me today,
just in the studio.
Speaker 7 (01:37:47):
Well truer false. All those handbags you have, Beth were
made in sweatshops in North Vietnam.
Speaker 16 (01:37:54):
Oh, thank you for making true or false Beth's handbag specifically, everybody.
Speaker 11 (01:38:00):
Oh, I'm gonna go with true.
Speaker 3 (01:38:03):
Oh please let it be false false false, true.
Speaker 11 (01:38:08):
I gotta go true.
Speaker 7 (01:38:10):
It's false because most of them are made in sweatshops
in China.
Speaker 3 (01:38:14):
Oh.
Speaker 7 (01:38:14):
Yeah, to throw us off there, Mark, there you go here,
one neighborhood, one more handbag question here, true or false.
The average woman spends about seventy seven days of her
life looking for stuff in her handbag.
Speaker 11 (01:38:27):
Oh, this has a theme.
Speaker 6 (01:38:30):
Seventy seven days of her entire life. Yes, I'm gonna
say true.
Speaker 3 (01:38:34):
True, I'll say false. I need to make up some
ground here, I'll say false.
Speaker 31 (01:38:38):
I'll say true.
Speaker 2 (01:38:39):
I'll go true. It is true.
Speaker 12 (01:38:41):
Oh my god.
Speaker 31 (01:38:43):
The other eleven days is looking for the handbag.
Speaker 6 (01:38:46):
Trying to match the handbag to the shoes.
Speaker 7 (01:38:51):
Okay, let's see what else we got here. In Lithuania,
this is interesting. Twenty five small hot air balloons came
floating into the country. What were they smuggling? Drugs, cigarettes,
or caviar.
Speaker 16 (01:39:06):
Oh my god, please let it be caviar Lithuania. I'm
going cigarettes.
Speaker 3 (01:39:12):
I'm gonna say drugs.
Speaker 11 (01:39:13):
Wait a profile Steve from with Lithuinia like cigarettes? Is
that what you're saying?
Speaker 31 (01:39:18):
Hey, I'm going.
Speaker 11 (01:39:21):
All right, I'll go, I'll go caviar.
Speaker 3 (01:39:23):
Would you say boom?
Speaker 2 (01:39:24):
Cigarettes?
Speaker 7 (01:39:24):
And it is cigarettes smuggling them into the country.
Speaker 6 (01:39:29):
Where you Steve, I would love to find a balloon
filled with caviar, some crackers, and some crim fresh.
Speaker 31 (01:39:38):
That sounds just saying what could possibly go wrong.
Speaker 12 (01:39:41):
With that.
Speaker 6 (01:39:44):
Refrigerator.
Speaker 3 (01:39:44):
It doesn't go bad or anything.
Speaker 31 (01:39:46):
I don't feel so good.
Speaker 11 (01:39:49):
What happened?
Speaker 7 (01:39:50):
I ate the balloon caviar had I found on the
side of the road so bloated. Huntersville Fire Department had
a very unusual from a house fire this week. Why
did it take six firefighters to rescue a man because
he was unconscious, because he was extremely large, or because
he was stuck under some furniture.
Speaker 31 (01:40:14):
I'll go with extremely large, go with B's well, I'm
gonna go with a.
Speaker 3 (01:40:22):
Furniture.
Speaker 6 (01:40:26):
I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm.
Speaker 3 (01:40:28):
Gonna say be very large.
Speaker 16 (01:40:30):
Can't wait, you say, boom, I picture someone being stuck,
so I'll go with that stuck fern.
Speaker 7 (01:40:35):
Well, it was actually because he was very large. He
weighs six hundred pounds.
Speaker 3 (01:40:40):
Haystack Calhoun there.
Speaker 11 (01:40:41):
Man, but they got him out.
Speaker 7 (01:40:46):
Mayor vy Lyles says Charlotte doesn't need the National Guard.
True or false. She said, the reason we don't need
the guard is because she believes in Charlotte.
Speaker 3 (01:40:57):
That sounds like a VI Liles thing to say true.
Speaker 11 (01:40:59):
I'm gonna say true as well.
Speaker 31 (01:41:00):
Yeah, I'm going true on.
Speaker 5 (01:41:03):
It's true.
Speaker 7 (01:41:05):
True, that's so uncertain, all true and all correct. That's
exactly what she said.
Speaker 31 (01:41:09):
I believe in Charlotte, and it's the Fraternal Order of
Police that actually asked for them.
Speaker 3 (01:41:15):
Right now, that's exactly right.
Speaker 7 (01:41:17):
The state of Kentucky is suing which game platform, calling
it a playground for predators and perverts, Minecraft, Lego Worlds
or Roadblocks, Roadblock.
Speaker 3 (01:41:30):
Yeah, I'm with Bernie on this.
Speaker 31 (01:41:32):
Roadblocks pro, Roadblocks, Minecraft, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:41:36):
Minecraft.
Speaker 6 (01:41:38):
I have never been on any of these sites, So
I'm going to say, with the youngsters here a roadblocks
and that's the correct answer.
Speaker 7 (01:41:46):
Well, do we have a winner in this little ring dang.
Do we have a three way time?
Speaker 2 (01:41:53):
All right?
Speaker 16 (01:41:54):
That would be between Hancock, Boomer, and myself. Well, let's
put you three weird guys into the mix here for
a little.
Speaker 19 (01:42:01):
Uh.
Speaker 31 (01:42:02):
Why does this show even have hosts?
Speaker 7 (01:42:08):
All right, we've got a couple of tie breaker possibilities here.
All right, boys, you're ready. Attorney General Pam Bondi had
some fiery moments before a Senate committee this week. She
told one senator he had no scruples because he cheated
on his wife, cheated on his campaign finance report, or
lied about his military service.
Speaker 3 (01:42:32):
Military service.
Speaker 2 (01:42:36):
That's what I'm thinking to.
Speaker 31 (01:42:40):
I'll go.
Speaker 7 (01:42:42):
Wife, he lied about his military service. It was Senator
Richard Blumenthal. Okay, so now we got two.
Speaker 2 (01:42:49):
That takes me.
Speaker 3 (01:42:49):
I thought Hancock was gonna waltz in here and win
the thing. But that takes Hancock out of it. So
now it's down to Steven Boomer. Right, that's correct?
Speaker 7 (01:42:57):
All right, all right, Bad Bunny is the halftime performer,
as we know, for the Super Bowl in January.
Speaker 3 (01:43:01):
Too or false, The.
Speaker 7 (01:43:02):
NFL actually rejected suggestions by staff to have Jelly role
as the performer.
Speaker 11 (01:43:09):
I think that's true.
Speaker 2 (01:43:10):
I think initially they objected.
Speaker 3 (01:43:12):
I think that's false, and the answer is false.
Speaker 7 (01:43:18):
Oh look at Steve, crazy Steve went Look.
Speaker 6 (01:43:21):
At Steve on tront opening day.
Speaker 7 (01:43:24):
How how how fitting it was bound to happen.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
It was faded this way.
Speaker 11 (01:43:29):
Here's your crown King.
Speaker 3 (01:43:31):
Congratulations, Sir Stephen of Anthony. It's been quite a week
for you. Thanks everybody for playing.
Speaker 1 (01:43:37):
This is good morning, Beat.
Speaker 31 (01:43:41):
Big Weekend presented by Watson Assurance.
Speaker 9 (01:43:45):
Friends that I know living in this town enough, come

drop my key on.
Speaker 19 (01:44:10):
The county rend it and hard that.
Speaker 9 (01:44:14):
I look up with up later.
Speaker 1 (01:44:18):
Hit do hit the bar.
Speaker 10 (01:44:24):
I need a big week.
Speaker 1 (01:44:29):
Me drop the die.
Speaker 3 (01:44:34):
You got big week?
Speaker 1 (01:44:39):
Hit dollar run you guys.
Speaker 28 (01:44:44):
If I may shake your hand, but I.
Speaker 19 (01:44:48):
Won't know your name.
Speaker 9 (01:44:50):
The joke in your language, don't come out with the same.
There's times when I'm down and.
Speaker 1 (01:44:58):
There's nothing to blame.
Speaker 22 (01:45:04):
I mean.
Speaker 9 (01:45:20):
Downs.
Speaker 12 (01:45:22):
Well.
Speaker 31 (01:45:22):
The Cowboys are at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday
for a game at the Panthers at one o'clock. Wicked
is playing the Belk Theater through the twenty sixth Scarrowins,
five hundred monsters and goblins and a couple of radio
consultants over at Carowins through November. The two Pumpkin Pazlooza

whole lot else to going on. Just just well, that'll
be eleven am till four pm tomorrow. Admission for that
is free. Charlotte Independence takes on a the Alta FC
tonight at seven pm at American Legion Memorial Stadium. Thirty
second Annual Carolina Renaissance Festival Saturdays and Sundays through November
(01:46:05):
twenty third, nine thirty to five thirty.
Speaker 9 (01:46:09):
Sleep Minnie Win across every quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:46:14):
With Nevin two de glan. You can the bat, but
it's best not say.
Speaker 1 (01:46:26):
How did you be? Week?
Speaker 2 (01:46:36):
Yeah, big week?
Speaker 1 (01:46:41):
You know, run russ.
Speaker 3 (01:46:46):
And there you go.
Speaker 31 (01:46:48):
Boom shakalaka y'all u n C. Charlotte has a nine
er Nation Week starts on a Sunday homecoming as next weekends,
so be a lot of should be a lot of
green and gold around town and Mallard Creek maybe history.
But tonight at the Point Church on Wilkinson Boulevard from
(01:47:14):
eleven am til six pm. Candidates will be meeting to
answer your question and serving a barbecue up there in
Gaston County. So the tradition isn't dead yet. I was
so stunned to read about Mallard Creek. I just didn't
think that that had a I just didn't ever envision
(01:47:36):
the day that I would see the end of that.
That's that's that was just mind boggling. Big weekend presented
by Watson Insurance Agency protecting what's important since nineteen thirty four.
Speaker 6 (01:47:49):
We just got a message on the text line from
Chris who said the big weekend the five acre corn
Maze at the historic Rural Hill in Huntersville actually opens
up hill dot net. If you've not been to that
corn maze? On that corn maze so much fun. It's open,
it's open.
Speaker 18 (01:48:05):
Good.
Speaker 6 (01:48:06):
Have you done the corn maze there?
Speaker 31 (01:48:08):
No? But I think Kristen from Channel three, who's out
on her own doing her own thing these days, but
I think she made a big deal out of it
a number of years ago and it looked like a riot.
Speaker 12 (01:48:21):
Oh.
Speaker 6 (01:48:21):
I got lost all up in it and it was
so much fun.
Speaker 3 (01:48:27):
That was good, Beth, that was good, and she want
to say good luck to all the people who like
corn mazes.
Speaker 6 (01:48:33):
It's so much fun. There's so much fun. And he
gets scared. He thinks because he grew up with children
of the corn, that's why the children of the Corn films.
Speaker 3 (01:48:42):
Yeah, and there was a period in my life where
A I had young kids and B like my kids.
My son was in boy Scouts and so we went
to these corn mazes a lot. And I'm not good
at the corn mazes.
Speaker 6 (01:48:55):
He's still in one.
Speaker 3 (01:48:57):
I'm almost almost like borderline afraid of the corn. I'd
rather go to Scare Winds and have the ghules get me. Then,
like I said last time, we talked about this, like
when I'm when I'm off of work, I don't want
to work hard.
Speaker 6 (01:49:09):
Well, Bo, for the you could you could still go
because they also have a bouncy house that you could
get in. They have food trucks, they have pumpkins, they
have wagon.
Speaker 3 (01:49:19):
This is for the young kids and bow and you're right, bet,
this is so much fun. Actually, don't knock the bouncy
Here's the thing about the bouncy houses when you have kids.
If you have kids, you can get in there. You'll
have a boat inevitably, your kid is going to have
a bounty house at a birthday party at some point
along the way. And when you inflate that thing before
(01:49:40):
the kids get to the party, somebody's gonna go out
there and test it out, and Yep, it's still got it.
Speaker 6 (01:49:46):
I told you. I took my niece to the trampoline
park and I was like, yeah, I'm gonna be the
cool an, I'm gonna get it. I even had a
shirt on that said I'm the Cooliant and got out
there and jumped every time I hit the trampoline. I
tingled every time. Every single will happen. I thought.
Speaker 11 (01:50:00):
I thought it's a normal thing.
Speaker 6 (01:50:02):
Though a lot of people do that, and that is
past a certain age.
Speaker 1 (01:50:07):
This is good Morning beat.
Speaker 3 (01:50:11):
All right, nine in front of ten here on WBT,
Vince Coafley Show is coming up, Bo and Beth here
final stretch with Charlotte's Most We love it. John Hancock,
you are the actual authentic John Hancock over there right,
not a not a not a deep fake.
Speaker 31 (01:50:26):
I don't think I'm deep faked, But.
Speaker 5 (01:50:29):
How would you know?
Speaker 31 (01:50:32):
I don't have a watermark that I can find.
Speaker 3 (01:50:35):
That's what Teresa keeps saying is we need to figure
out how to watermark AI stuff.
Speaker 6 (01:50:40):
Yeah, because there's a new app Hancock called Sora. It's
now the number one app on the iPhone, and it
can take a photo and then create videos that of
you that don't exist. They're not real videos, but they
they look real enough to make you believe that they are.
Speaker 31 (01:50:57):
I just read this about George carl and Robin Williams,
and it's happening in mass and Robin Williams' daughter is saying,
please quit sending me videos of my dad. He would
not agree with this at all. And I've watched several
(01:51:18):
George Carlin on Facebook recently, and the one is a
well known routune about government and so on and so forth.
But then I've seen a couple recently where it didn't
seem like Carson and Carlin.
Speaker 11 (01:51:33):
I know he was better and.
Speaker 31 (01:51:37):
Earlier in his career than later, but to me, that's
just so wrong to use someone's likeness.
Speaker 6 (01:51:50):
In that regard and put words in their mouth that
they maybe never said.
Speaker 31 (01:51:54):
Because yeah, because the magic of them is that they
either overcame to become what they became, or they were
so brilliant or so whatever they were that it set
them off to the norm and the people who are
(01:52:14):
trying to recreate them aren't nearly as talented as as
they were.
Speaker 3 (01:52:21):
Now, where do you come down on, for example, like
Paul McCartney giving it the giving the blessing to finish
a Beatles song with AI, John Lennon or or some
of these these examples where you have artists that like
James Earl Jones, for example, James Earl Jones before he died,
h cut a deal with Disney where they actually took
(01:52:44):
his vocal stems uh and and and made it possible
with technology AI technology now that they can, you know,
recreate the Darth Vader voice down the road after he's gone.
Are you in favor of that being okay as long
as it has the blessing of the person who was
the original source.
Speaker 31 (01:53:02):
I don't think I am, And it's probably more their
business than it is mine. But no, I don't think
I am. And it's kind of like the beginning of AI.
Don't anybody worry. We're not going to use this for
nefarious reasons. We're gonna we're gonna police this and and
(01:53:22):
they have it and they won't because there's money in it.
And if there's money in it, then that overcomes any
consideration to police it.
Speaker 6 (01:53:38):
Profit over people, profit over people.
Speaker 31 (01:53:41):
So I don't think I am you know. I mean,
James Earl Jones technically has the right to do what
he wants to do. But I'm afraid that ten years
from now. You know, it's this article I read something
about that, they've got Michael Jack doing comedy routines and
(01:54:03):
stuff like that, and there's no place this can go
but bad. Eventually or already.
Speaker 3 (01:54:11):
You make a good point. I think that the further
you get away from the source of the permission, even then,
you know, I'm not so worried about what happens five
years down the line as I am. I'm worried when
the people who knew had connection to the person who
was the original source, what their intentions might be, or
what they would be apt to say in response. You
(01:54:33):
get far enough down the road and there's so much
of a disconnect that there are no rules anymore.
Speaker 31 (01:54:39):
If this was a script that he had read and
would have done right, then I guess I'm not I
wouldn't be necessarily opposed to that. But then that's it.
You can't all of a sudden say, oh sure, he
would have done that.
Speaker 11 (01:54:54):
In a heartbeat.
Speaker 31 (01:54:56):
I just I just don't I like reality, and let's
let's quit jumping. Let's quit jump in reality. Just because
you've got the technology doesn't necessarily mean that it's a
good thing.
Speaker 9 (01:55:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:55:09):
I worry about, especially as campaigns start happening in the future,
reputations being ruined by videos that aren't real and not
getting out in mass that it's not real in the
same way that the not real video got out in
mass You know that those are the things that start,
really I think getting terrifying because people have put so
(01:55:31):
much of their lives online. The images exist everywhere, and
these now these AI apps and the AI technology can
take one image and turn that into something that isn't real.
Speaker 31 (01:55:42):
All these people using my brilliance to carry their careers
and get into the rock and roll are to the
Radio Hall of Fame. It just, you know, it hacks
me off.
Speaker 3 (01:55:57):
Yeah, I mean, come on, get in on your own merits.
Speaker 11 (01:56:00):
Right, Yeah, really, you know.
Speaker 31 (01:56:02):
And besides that what they've done is diluted to the
point that I don't have a chance.
Speaker 3 (01:56:11):
That's a good place to end for the week, don't
you think Beth o. We love you.
Speaker 7 (01:56:14):
John Hancock, Oh man, it's good to see it as.
Speaker 11 (01:56:17):
Always, which is fine. By the way, i'd have.
Speaker 31 (01:56:19):
To get dressed up.
Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
I've seen you with a tie on maybe twice in
my life and they've both been funerals. Well, no, when
was your Hall of Fame speech? Yeah, I'm sick and
yeah sweaty, yeah true, that was true. But hey, you know,
looking back on it, it was one of the great
nights for this radio station. Hey, look, have a great week, everybody.
Thank you, thank you, Thank you to Steve and Sir
(01:56:46):
Steven of Anthony's been pulling double duty this week, thanks
to Bernie and Mark and Zoke and he's not here today,
and Sharon and Garrison and Boomer and oh yeah, Beth.
Good talk, Beth, good talk.
Speaker 6 (01:56:58):
