It is the friday before a holiday weekend.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
There, you better be ready to tell us something good
later on.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
I have all kinds of good news for Fryet, namely
that a very positive experience at the DMV.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Everyone, boy, don't hear that one every day exactly.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
And I told the folks at the DMV that I
was going to tell that positive story today.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
So after the show yesterday, I mean like right after
the show, you had to get out of here, Like
I almost thought Beth was going to leave before the
show is over.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Well, you guys know how hard it was for me
to make an appointment. I mean, we did an entire
show about how difficult it was for me to make
an appointment. Got one to Mount Airy, I thought, yeah,
by accident, I got one in Mount Mary, and then
I got one in Hickory. But then finally I got
one here in Charlotte, and the appointment finally arrived yesterday.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
No, you finally arrived to the appointment yesterday. That's like
the DMV came to me.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
So you went to the DMV and I got my
address change, which was the biggest thing that I needed
to do, you know, because we moved this year, but
also now have my real I d not gonna lie.
Possibly the worst photograph ever taken of me. But Brian,
Brian at the DMV just a delight, just a delight.

(03:39):
But also listens to the show guys ah with an
eye orwa, did you so you cracked the d worker?
I did, and he was like a happy, jolly fellow.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
She made him smile.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
He was just he Actually it was the cutest thing.
He he blushed, He blushed his cheeks, he blushed. He
was so adorable. I just wanted although there was a
glass partition, I couldn't hug him. I wanted to. I
wanted to jump.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
This woman's going around the glass. What is she doing?

Speaker 10 (04:09):
Sam?

Speaker 11 (04:10):
You can't go back there.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
He's hugging the worker. Good morning BT the show that
makes DMV workers blush. I'll take it.

Speaker 12 (04:18):
Hey, you know what?

Speaker 5 (04:19):
But Brian listens and I told him, I was like, look,
I'm gonna I have to give you a shout out now.
And he said, when are you going to do it?
I said, well, I'm not going to tell you here's
to have to listen to the whole four hours, but
now I'm giving it away at the top of the show.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Good morning, Brian.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
Hey, Brian, I love you. He was so much fun.
He really made it a delightful experience. I'm not gonna lie.
How many times can you say, oh my gosh, that
was so easy.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Who has ever said that the DMV is a delightful experience?
You're the first one.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
Yeah, And it was once I got back to Brian. Now,
before I got back to Brian, at first, they were
very confused about the fact that my birth certificate didn't
match my driver's license, and the woman was like, your
birth certificate doesn't match your driver's license, ma'am. And I said, well,
that's the because I wasn't married when I was born.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Where's Brian, He'll understand.

Speaker 5 (05:04):
Yeah, Brian, I'll get it. Brian, I'll get it.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Well, welcome to Friday, or Friday if you're Boomer von
Cannon or later on the show, tell us something good.
It's our new three weeks in Friday Staple now right.

Speaker 5 (05:18):
I actually love that this is becoming a thing and
that people are enjoying it. And especially going into a
holiday weekend. Don't you want some good news, Like Brian
at the DMV, that's some good news.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yeah, you started off. I mean, it's gonna be a
hard act to follow doing that out of the gate.
And when we come back. Some of you were listening
yesterday when we were talking about Bill Belichick and his
appearance on The Coaches Show the night before on WBT,
and we noticed that Bill Belichick was or someone someone
was pulling a Ron Rivera and and chewing and crunching

(05:49):
on something during the interview with Jones Angel And so
we said yesterday we were going to have to ask
Jones about that. Well, you know we did.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
Of course we did, and Jones, I do believe was
taken aback. He wasn't expecting that question.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Yeah, I basically said, I know, none of the other
shows you've been on have have gone here, but that's
what we do. So if you were not with us
late in the show yesterday, we'll revisit that in just
a moment because it was a fun you know, we
got Jones out of his shell a little bit.

Speaker 13 (06:14):
I love.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
That's one of the best things about interviewing people, talking
with people is figuring out how to get them out
of their shell, figuring out how to get them out
of their comfort zone and finding the real person that's
in there buried.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
How to make a DMV worker blush, That's what it is.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
So cute, guys, His whole face turned red.

Speaker 11 (06:34):
It was so cute.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Good morning, Brian, I know I love him. Six fourteen
on WBT. Good morning, Boomer, Good morning, guys, May morning.
How's the morning? That's right? I gotta wake him up? Hey,
wake up, al good morning, thank you, Wake up, Bob, Bryan,
wake up, Robert, Gula Lama, thank you.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
You get it all for the holiday.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
That's right, that's all. That's pretty good. Team already hit
the trifecta. It's gonna be one of them days. Boomer,
go a roll, baby fry yay ry yang.

Speaker 9 (07:08):
Hey.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
College football's here too. How about this man?

Speaker 5 (07:11):
Yeah, Bernie Bowles.

Speaker 11 (07:12):
Is about that? Boomer? How about ahead about last night's game?

Speaker 6 (07:15):
That was a game?

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Then?

Speaker 11 (07:16):
I feel bad for Jamszokie.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Oh got too, you guys. Missing Jim Zokie today, I
do miss Let's here's some.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
Twich staff of the ball.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
The Wolfpack aren't even set.

Speaker 14 (07:24):
Here's a throw in Connor's got it at the forty
five ranks to tackle out.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
The fifty gown the left sideline forty thirty.

Speaker 14 (07:31):
Twenty five, twenty ten to five touchdown.

Speaker 3 (07:35):
J C.

Speaker 14 (07:36):
Conner ptalty players all over the field as a Wolfpack
weren't even set.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Getting on the field. But for the second time of.

Speaker 14 (07:42):
The game, the Pirates take advantage of a slow moving
wolfpack exchange of players. Yeah, that was self inflicted by
the NC State defense.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
At ZOKI last night on the e CU Pirate Radio network.
And that's the first touchdown of the ECU season, even
though they didn't win. But there's there's the zoke great
calls you great?

Speaker 5 (08:00):
Is it so weird that I feel like a proud
parent of Jim? He sounded so great?

Speaker 15 (08:06):
How it was?

Speaker 11 (08:06):
Last year I pulled the game winning touchdown from the
Military Bowl, and I hated to do it because they
beat NC State, But it was really cool to pull
that Jim's.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
First football game.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
I know, I know, I act like he doesn't go, buddy,
we go Jim. He's so good though.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yeap Bernie is wearing the colors today head to toe.
Ency State kicking off the college football season last night,
and fine form in Raleigh twenty four to seventeen over
Jim Zochie's ECU Pirates. Zokie was on the call. That's
why he's not here today. Of course, Zokie's got well

(08:52):
that's about to It's a football season for Zoke. He's
going to be in and out Panthers Pirates. But you
love this time.

Speaker 11 (08:59):
He might have just been scared to come to work
both thing all. Honestly, I'd be scared too.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
It's a late night though, but anyway, Zoe keeping back
on Monday. NC State wins last night, so Bernie's happy.
ECU loses, so we're sort of sad for Zokie, But
really it's all pointing towards Monday when the North Carolina
tar Heels Beth's North Carolina tar Heels will welcome TCU
to Keenan Stadium. But you know that's kind of the undercard.

(09:28):
The real story is Bill Belichick is setting foot on
Keenan Stadium's field as head coach for the first time.

Speaker 5 (09:34):
Do we think that he has purchased a or I'm
sure they gave him a Carolina jersey? And do you
think that he cut the sleeves off of this said Jersey, I.

Speaker 11 (09:44):
Kind of do.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
I think he's sort of been waiting for that. But
I mean, if he doesn't walk out there with the
rip sleeves, then we're gonna be like, we're not getting
our money's worth here, all right. So yesterday on the show,
we had Jones Angel in our final half hour, the
voice of the North Carolina tar Heels, who will be
on the call on Monday night right here on WBT
seven o'clock airtime eight o'clock step off on the Charlotte

(10:07):
Home of the tar Heels. So Jones is on with us.
He's on every Thursday during the football season. And we
noticed as we were listening to the to the Coaches Show,
which was on Thursday night rather Wednesday night Carolina Football Live.
We were listening to the talk between Belichick and Jones
and in the crowd there and then we noticed we

(10:28):
noticed something.

Speaker 5 (10:30):
Excuse, someone was chewing. You guys know how I love
to hear people too.

Speaker 9 (10:34):
It was it was.

Speaker 5 (10:35):
It was very noticeable, very yes, very noticeable.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
And so we said, we said, we got to ask,
we got to ask Jones about this, and we did. Okay,
so look, you know us we're a little bit different
than a lot of the other shows that I think
you come on each week. We're you know, we're we're
willing to go there on certain things. We used to
We used to joke because Ron Rivera would come on
with Mick Mixon on the Panthers Radio network and in

(11:01):
their weekly conversation, Ron Rivera was famous for having a
snack while he was talking to Mick. To Mick Mixon, I.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
Got to eat candy, he would just you know, because
he knew that Mick Mixon hated it.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Well, here's a very.

Speaker 16 (11:16):
Bright young man, terrific skill set, quick release, good decision maker.
And again, as we looked at the future, you know,
not the near future, but you know, down the line future,
we've got to start working and looking to develop who's
going to be next in line. And you know, Brad's
a guy that we watched during the draft process.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
I'm listening last night. I listened to the whole show
last night, because I mean I listened to it a lot,
but I especially interested, obviously and how this would would
sound from top of the hill. And you did a
great job. But in the opening remarks or close to
the beginning, so Lombardi's talking here and then we heard
something in the background, so play.

Speaker 17 (11:50):
That best part about this is he won't say this,
But the best part is when you're walking on campus
and we're walking over to practice, and here and I
were walking together and the students walk by and they're
not quite sure who he is because you've got a
hat on, you know, And then after they take about
five steps past them, they're like, holy heck.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Okay, somebody's chomping in the background. I'm like, is that Belichick?
Is that John's? Who is that?

Speaker 18 (12:13):
I think that was definitely co Felchick. Okay, So he
had just come from So Carolina.

Speaker 19 (12:20):
Has changed when they practiced, So under coach Brown, Caroline
would practice in the morning. Coach Belichick they practice after class,
so they're practicing in the afternoon. So in fact, if
you heard the show, he actually came in just a
two or three minutes after the show started because they
had gotten off the practice field. He had gone and
gotten showered up and was trying to get across campus.

Speaker 18 (12:41):
To the top of the hill, and so he had
a I think it was a glass of elimonade with
him or some kind of water eliminade, something like that,
and so he was still trying to cool off a
little bit and get himself ready to go. So I
think that that was definitely him having a sip of
the lemonade and chomping on some ice there. But look,
he wins six super Bowls.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Guys, you can do whatever you want, an do what
you want. You're exactly right.

Speaker 5 (13:03):
We were taking we were taking suggestions. People in the
text line thought maybe it was corn nuts, maybe doritos.
They didn't know. But it's ice.

Speaker 18 (13:10):
Just a sip of the lemonade and a chomp on
some ice. Not nearly as exciting as corn nuts.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Who else is going to ask you that? Jones? Right, Hey,
we got all our bases covered.

Speaker 11 (13:23):
It was ice.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
It's such a great sound. It really is such a
great sound. You have the pebble, the pellet ice, which
is even my ice machine at home, better for crunching.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
I gotta tell Bill Belichick about this.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
Maybe Jordans that's what she can get him for his
uh what one hundredth birthday?

Speaker 20 (13:43):
Hey, Gil gives he's fifteen.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
There's a large gap in between you.

Speaker 5 (13:50):
Here is a large the gap between them is older
than I am.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
It's a golf he's teaching her the facts of life. Hey,
I give Jones credit for telling us that it actually
was the coach. I thought maybe he would, he would
cover for him.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
He's like, no, it's Bill, Yeah, that was Bill crunching ice.

Speaker 10 (14:06):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
This is Good Morning Beat with Bo Thompson and Math
troud Man.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
We're going back in time a little bit. A lot
of people listen to Coast to Coast before they listened
to us. As I have told George Norri many times,
even to his face, because I saw him earlier this
year when he came to Charlotte, we are the post
game show for Coast to Coast, Am, Yes we are.
That is what we are, if nothing else in that light,

(14:44):
Let's go to the WBT hotline early on a Friday morning,
seven o four five, seven eleven ten, Ruth is with us.
Good morning Ruth, Hi.

Speaker 9 (14:53):
Thank you for playing the Coast song. I'm a Coaster Coasty.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
We call ourselves Coasty's Coasty.

Speaker 9 (15:00):
Yeah, the ones that us regular callers for Coast And
we just loved George and I can't wait to go
to a show someday. But I talked to Tommy and
Gene a lot. Tommy dan Heiser, he wanted me to
tell about that he was sorry that he missed her
when they did the show down there a couple months ago.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
Okay, so that's so sweet.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
So when he was here and Beth wasn't able to
go to that, so Pete Calendar and I went to
the to the to the George Norrie Live show. I
had a soccer match, that's right, and and look at her.
I had an excuse.

Speaker 5 (15:32):
I didn't just not show up.

Speaker 10 (15:34):
But but what did he meet?

Speaker 9 (15:36):
He said he met Pete Calendar.

Speaker 21 (15:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Did he said that he met Bo Thompson. Uh, I
don't remember that one the more important of the two, guess.
So all right, Well anyway, Ruth, So when I was
there accompanying Pete Calendar, I do. It was a great night,
and I loved meeting George. And I met Tommy D.
Tommy dan Heiser and who we known for years is

(16:01):
George's right hand man and producer there for Coast to Coast.
But when you called and told Steve that Tommy had
been talking about Beth, my question was is this something
that George has said on the air or did Ruth
talk to Tommy D off the air?

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Oh?

Speaker 9 (16:15):
No, it was off the air. I told him that
I listened to BT even though I'm in Maryland. Here,
I'm in Maryland South BT.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
Yeah, wow, that's so awesome that you listened from Maryland.

Speaker 9 (16:27):
Ruth. Yes, and it comes in from about seven at
nine to seven in the morning. I mean yeah, in
a nighttime seven pm to seven am. I can't get
it during the daytime.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
But see, people ask, Ruth when we say we're the
fifty thousand, what blowtorch? And people ask, what do you
Why do you say that? Why do you say the
Canada to Cuba thing. It's because at night our signal
beams up and down the East coast because the signal
pattern changes, and these little stations in small towns have
to have to turn their transmitter off at sundown or
at least lower their power. And that's how you can

(16:59):
hear WBT in places when it's dark like you do.
So it's really a cool thing. And it's like a
it's like a network that happens because of because of
the radio waves and not not because you're on every
one of those stations. It's pretty cool thing.

Speaker 9 (17:13):
Actually, yes, it's it's a it is. And before we
get off the line, back to best that's probably about
a year ago or so. Yeah, you were talking about
a song that you sing to your dogs.

Speaker 10 (17:28):
Do you want a yummy yummy?

Speaker 5 (17:30):
Oh my gosh, Ruth. The fact that you remember that
I do. I sang the song to them this morning.

Speaker 9 (17:35):
Do you want your I changed the words do you
want a yummy gummy? Because I give them gummies.

Speaker 5 (17:41):
Oh my gosh, Ruth, I think that's fantastic, you do.
I just just ordered some gummies for my dogs for
their teeth, so I might have to start singing do
you want some yummy gummies? I might take your advice.

Speaker 9 (17:52):
So what's the next line? It's do you want a
yummy gummy? Do you want a yummy gummy?

Speaker 12 (17:56):
Now?

Speaker 9 (17:56):
What's the line after that?

Speaker 5 (17:58):
So I say, do you want? Oh my gosh, sir
sing it Forrest Beth.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Yeah, it's so.

Speaker 5 (18:02):
It's it's to the.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
I.

Speaker 5 (18:06):
I can't believe that I'm doing this. It's do you
want some yummy yummy? Do you want some yummy pie?

Speaker 12 (18:13):
Yummy?

Speaker 5 (18:14):
I don't know why I say pie, but I make
homemade food for my dogs. And then I say, I
don't know why I call them bears, but I say.

Speaker 13 (18:20):
Yummy bears, My little fuzzy bears, my little hairy bears, Ruth.
Then I sing yum yum yummy, yumm yum yum yumm
yumy yum yum yummy yummy yum.

Speaker 3 (18:31):
Ruth, We're out of time. We're out of time.

Speaker 9 (18:33):
Uh that's perfect because thank you. I called my dog
a bear all the time. It looks like a little bear.

Speaker 5 (18:40):
Oh see, I think mine looks like a little panda bear.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Well, Ruth, there's only one thing left to say here.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
He's the Beth Troutman show Bo Thompson. Who's Bo Thompson
on w BT?

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Ruth, you got me to sing the whole song on
the air. You are a special lady.

Speaker 9 (19:00):
Thank you, Beth.

Speaker 21 (19:01):
You are too.

Speaker 9 (19:02):
Everybody loves you. Oh and yeah, I really enjoy your station.
It's better than especially your morning show and everything it's
it's really good and too bad. I can't get it
doing to day. But I can get to the North
Carolina station better than I.

Speaker 15 (19:17):
Can the Virginia one.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
Well that's pretty amazing.

Speaker 9 (19:19):
I live near the packs military base like Southern Maryland.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
Ruth, thank you so much for calling guys.

Speaker 9 (19:29):
It was a joy talking to you. Thank you.

Speaker 5 (19:31):

Speaker 22 (19:55):

Speaker 6 (20:04):

Speaker 5 (20:05):
Yeah, I need to invite Boomer over to the house
for my morning routine.

Speaker 11 (20:11):
That could get dangerous.

Speaker 5 (20:13):
That might be too much fun for one room.

Speaker 6 (20:15):
Might get kicked out of the neighborhood there man, Oh for.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
Sure the h o A would not like us.

Speaker 12 (20:21):
Hey, guys, I'll tell you what we do, like what
we see.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Traffic white all right, Tommy James and and Sean Dale's well,
this is billy idle gus. I canna do it short notice.

Speaker 12 (20:32):
Moan, you know what money is m o n y.

Speaker 22 (20:39):
The guy who wrote that song is a songwriter in
New York and he lived near Times Square in that
area and he would always look out of his window
trying to get ideas to write songs, you know what.
And he always noticed this one lady that would walk
at a certain time of day every day at the
same time, and how attractive she is. She was always
right theres she walked close to Mutual of New York.

(20:59):
The O in wise sign it comes now money. Money
that's probably deft worth stands for Mutual of New York.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
The factoids that live in boomor in your head. It's
just remarkable.

Speaker 6 (21:14):
Praise yourself.

Speaker 12 (21:14):
Favorite, way back, way back to.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Way to jo.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
You know, when I was a kid and I used
to go to Atlanta Braves games, that was my gateway
to Atlanta, going to Atlanta, Georgia. And one of the
things that used to always amaze me, like the Charlotte
Observer had a big newspaper on Sundays, had a huge
one on you know, Thanksgiving. You can think of the
days where the Observer was just fat.

Speaker 5 (21:55):
Getting heavy, and it had that rich, that rich smell,
just newspaper smell, and you'd get the black ink on
your fingers.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
The kids call it thick boat. I was pha t Burnie,
Oh there you are, Yeah, track with me here. But
when I went to Atlanta and I saw how fat
the newspaper was, even on like a Tuesday or Wednesday,
the Atlanta Journal Constitution was a big.

Speaker 5 (22:23):
Newspaper, doorstop size. I mean, it's heavy.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
Full to read that thing for days. Yes, That's why
a story like yesterday kind of hits me, even though
I'm not a Georgian. I'm not a guy from Atlanta,
and I don't go there that often. I mean go
to a Braves game once a year and maybe every
once in a while travel through. The Atlanta Journal Constitution
will cease publishing print editions at the end of this year.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
And this is a big, big deal. I mean, to me,
the Atlanta Journal Constitution is up there their print publication,
like you were saying, because it was so it's always
so big and full of great journalism. It's kind of
up there with the New York Times, you know, the
newspapers that just they kind of represent a generation.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Now they're not ending the AJAC. What they're doing is
ending the paper.

Speaker 5 (23:17):
Version, right, which means that people are no longer going
to have that experience and I'm having it up.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
I haven't had the experience of the paper Charlotte Observer
in years. I mean we used when I first okay,
when we were growing up, we had it every day,
and then when I was my wife and I were
newly married, we had it for a while every day,
and then we had it just on the weekends, and
then it was just Sunday, and then of course now
we don't have it at all. Now it still exists.
The only time I ever see the paper version of

(23:45):
the Observer is when I'll be like in Harris Teeter
and they right when you walk in Harris Teeter at
the customer service desk, they have an Observer, and they
have I think maybe a Wall Street Journal and sometimes
USA Today. But like when I look look at it,
it's thin as so so so thin, and you know,

(24:05):
as you could tell with the Observer, and it's in
the last days that I had it. When you would
read an article on Sunday, it was an article most
likely that you read online on Wednesday, you know. So
there's very little and even when like like I used
to as a kid, I'd wake up, the first thing
I do is go to the sports section and go
to the box scores the baseball games right now, that's

(24:29):
there's no immediacy anymore. Like most of the time when
you look at the Observer, the the sports scores are
from a couple of nights ago and not the day of.
But anyway, this is not something new to print the
print media. I'm not surprised that the AJAC is ending
print all together. But to me, it's kind of like
it's one of the milestone papers across the country that
really sort of hammer home that is this is the

(24:53):
end it.

Speaker 5 (24:53):
Print is really going away. I didn't think that I
would see print completely go away in my lifetime, and
we will. We will see it. My best friend from childhood,
she's still my best friend today. She lived in Atlanta
for more than twenty years, and she texted me this
article yesterday as well, letting you know about the Atlanta
Journal Constitution ceasing their print, and she was so sad

(25:18):
because her Sunday, her weekend routine was getting that Sunday
paper and going cover to cover, you know, front to back,
with her cup of coffee, and that she just kind
of loved that part of her routine. And this same
she had the same kind of reaction that I did,
and this hers was more personal because she was so
accustomed to this newspaper. That print newspapers are really gone.

(25:42):
And remember I mean, I say, remember a hundred years ago.
Of course we don't remember a hundred year ago because
we weren't here, but I mean there were morning and
evening editions of the newspaper and people relied upon it.

Speaker 20 (25:52):
Oh, you had the Charlotte Observer and the Charlotte News
for years and it was always fun to get the
afternoon Yes, I.

Speaker 5 (26:00):
Agree, And there's just something about the fact that I
get that the Internet is immediate, but it also with
that comes a lot of misinformation, not intentional, but it
happens so fast now that you print breaking news and
stories change and you know there's not you end up
with a whole lot of over information and everything needing

(26:23):
to be so quick that you can't necessarily always get
everything right.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
The AJAC broke the story yesterday about the AJAC going
away from paper at the end of the year. They said,
the decision now, this decision now is the best thing
we can do in order to make sure the AJAC
is relevant for the next one hundred and fifty seven years.
As it has been for the last You know, that's
all fine and good, but look, I mean they're trying

(26:47):
to keep these things together in some semblance of what
they were. But the Observer doesn't have near the staff
it used to and can and you don't need it
when you don't have all the paper. But it kind
of goes hand in hand again. Yesterday they announce at
the end of the year the paper version of the
Atlanta Journal Constitution will be no more. The Observer still
has a paper version, but I gotta imagine we're getting

(27:08):
close to the same thing here. It's almost seven o'clock.
I'm as human as anyone.

Speaker 23 (27:13):
I wake up every morning, and despite not knowing what
to do, I put one foot in front of the
other and I try to make the best foot night.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
Man from News Talk eleven ten and ninety nine three
double e bet.

Speaker 23 (27:24):
I screw up all the time, but that is being human,
and that's my greatest strength.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
This is good Morning Beat with both Thompson and Beth Trout.

Speaker 24 (27:33):
Bit good morning, good morning, indeed playing your walk up music.

(27:55):
Every once in a while, you gotta do it, you know,
think about it.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Let's think about the other day. You know, I play
this on everybody else's show, but very rarely on my own. Yeah,
so for I'm sorry yours, I chose to play this
for you man.

Speaker 12 (28:10):
That's right, Thank you, Ben.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
Friday morning, don't forget coming up at seven fifty. It's
our new Friday staple, or excuse me, Friday a staple.
Tell me something good, tell us something good that happened
in your life this week, or something that you know
about somebody else, or some good news you want to
get out there heading into the weekend. It's been wildly popular.
Seven oh four or five, seven oh eleven, ten, You

(28:33):
can text us, can also call, and we'll do that
right at seven fifty on your Friday morning. Adam Thielen
is on his way or actually he's in Minnesota. I
know this because he held his first news conference as
a Minnesota Viking. He started out as a Minnesota Viking,
and he's going to end his career as a Minnesota Viking.
Carolina Panthers fans, many people sort of upset about that.

(28:55):
I'm going to miss the guy. I think he's been
really a connector. And I think if Bryce Young ends
up having a great season even after thelan is gone,
you're going to have to point back to what Thelan
sort of put in place as the as the framework for.

Speaker 6 (29:09):
It to happen.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
I'm sure if especially his wife were to call in
to tell us something good for Frye, they would call
to say, hey, we've moved back home. His wife was
very excited, but they she but he was very lovely,
Thelan was, and I know I keep saying Thelund Adam,
the Liund was very lovely and gracious.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Later today to the Pete Calendar show, but he he.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
Was very I I he's a class He's a class act.
And I think you're right, bo, I think that we
will miss the kind of just connector that he was.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
How do we know he's a class act. Well, here's
what he said upon getting back to Minnesota.

Speaker 25 (29:46):
Carolina means a lot to my family, and I now
what a special place and is going to hold a
special place in our hearts for a lot of reasons
outside of football. Football, the relationships that you build over
a couple of seasons and even in the training camp
this year. Didn't know this was gonna happen until yesterday morning,

(30:07):
and so yesterday was an absolute whirlwind. Just didn't think
that this was even a possibility. I thought the next
time I was would be talking to you guys is
when I was signed a one day contract and return.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
So this is this is pretty surreal.

Speaker 25 (30:22):
And again I'm gonna take advantage of every second that
I'm back in this building, and I've tried to do
that from a little bit of a different perspective.

Speaker 3 (30:29):
See the fact that he said, and it's not a surprise,
but he did say that he thought all along he
would sign a one day contract with his original team,
which is what a lot of guys do that have
huge careers with one team and then go play for
somebody else. Towards the end, they go back and sign
a one day contract or they you know, pick that
team to if they go in the Hall of Fame
where that jersey. So nobody in Charlotte's surprised that he

(30:52):
would have signed a one day to end his career.
But it's cool because he's one of those guys that
sort of has a following with another team and that's
his first team. But a little piece of him is
here in Charlotte and always will be.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
Yeah, and he spent so much time here you have
to wonder he's going back to the cold Minnesota winters.
His blood is thinned out.

Speaker 13 (31:12):
You know.

Speaker 5 (31:13):
You always say when you move south, your blood thins
out and you don't stay as warm in those cold months.
It's going to take him a while to remember how
to handle those Minnesota winters.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
And it remains to be seen whether Bryce Young has
the season we all hope he has. It looks good,
but we've been in this boat before where we're sort
of anticipating and hoping and it kind of sputters out
of the gate. Hopefully he surges out of the gate
and continues what he put in place last year. That
is what Adam Thieling, even though he's a Viking, now
hopes happens.

Speaker 25 (31:41):
He's a great man, he's a great leader, he's a
great quarterback. And you saw that at the end of
last year. Just the stuff that he had to go through,
the adversity his first two years in league. You don't
wish that upon anybody, and so for him to kind
of handle that and then to where he's at right
now is it just says a lot about his character

(32:02):
and who he is and what kind of player he's
going to be in this league. So so much respect
for him because I probably not here today. I guarantee
I'm out here today without him, just him trusting to me,
him giving me opportunity and believing in me to be
able to still continue to play this game.

Speaker 15 (32:18):
I love you.

Speaker 5 (32:19):
Know what's happening here. Adam Thlin is pulling for my
fantasy football team. I have Bryce as my quarterback.

Speaker 11 (32:26):
I have Adam.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
You have Adam. It's right, you have Adam.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
You do know you can trade in this league, like
if you really wanted theeling, you could offer Bernie a
Deally can't refuse give me Chuba, you know.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
I have to give you so I can't give you
like a Chicken MC nuggets and no, I have to
give you a to give you a player.

Speaker 11 (32:42):
No, there's no, no, No, I don't know they're not.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
I mean, if you want to give me chicken the nuggets,
I might give you some players. Illusion we have to
ask the commissioner.

Speaker 5 (32:52):
Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 24 (32:54):
Oh I thought the Wayanniak was the commissioner's like the outback,
no rules, just right over the Bernie's the deputy commissioner.

Speaker 9 (32:59):
Yeah, got it.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Because the waaneiac is not on site, right, so when
he's not on site, and I think Bernie can yeh,
calls on his behalf.

Speaker 11 (33:05):
The assistant to the commissioner.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
So Bernie's always wanted just act like you're the Wayneiac.
Ye do what he would do?

Speaker 6 (33:11):
Right?

Speaker 11 (33:12):
He acts like he's been there. He's just don't question it.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
I just confirmed that Sharon Thorsland will join us at
eight twenty, and she is going to stick around for
the news quiz today.

Speaker 5 (33:22):
Probably win, although bo you've did you win last week?
Two and a three in a row?

Speaker 6 (33:26):
I didn't win last week?

Speaker 26 (33:27):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (33:27):
I did not win?

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Who won last week? I think Bernie won last week?

Speaker 11 (33:30):
Did you not?

Speaker 12 (33:32):
I win?

Speaker 11 (33:33):
They don't think it.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
It's amazing how much we remember of our own show.

Speaker 11 (33:37):
Was it Boomer again?

Speaker 3 (33:38):
No?

Speaker 11 (33:39):
Was it jam?

Speaker 3 (33:39):
I really think it was you?

Speaker 18 (33:41):
Was it me?

Speaker 6 (33:42):
Wasn't it?

Speaker 19 (33:43):
Wasn't you?

Speaker 3 (33:43):
Steve? Was it okay?

Speaker 9 (33:45):
All right?

Speaker 11 (33:46):
Steve would remember?

Speaker 3 (33:47):
Maybe was Nick Craig?

Speaker 5 (33:48):
I bet Nick Craig would We'll have to ask Mark Garrison.
Maybe he remembers.

Speaker 3 (33:52):
This is good morning Beatty, Friday morning, seven twenty on
WBT Bowen Beth here on the Great Colossus. So our
friend Ruth from Maryland. I look down and she was
still hanging on and I said, is she been on

(34:13):
hold all this time? And she has, but she's listening
on hold because you know what she was saying, she
doesn't get us after a certain period of time.

Speaker 5 (34:21):
Oh my gosh, Ruth is hanging on to hear us.
So Ruth might be our new fave.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
I hope it's been worth it, I assume, So if
she's still there, yeah, yeah, So let's go to the
WBT hotline and welcome US Congressman Mark Harris from D eight.
He joins us once a week, and right now he's on,
you know, on leave from Washington. He's at home doing
constituent work and such with the break in August, but
I'm assuming things are about to ramp back up after

(34:46):
Labor Day. Congressman, good morning.

Speaker 10 (34:47):
To you, Good morning Bow and Beth. Great to hear
your voice this morning.

Speaker 5 (34:53):
Well, it's always great to hear your voice. We love
that you join us every Friday. It's huge.

Speaker 10 (34:58):
Well, it's a blessing for me and I enjoy updating
folks on what's happening and sharing some perspective. And this
has been a difficult week for the country in so
many ways, but we are just continuing to press on.

Speaker 5 (35:14):
You're definitely right that it has been a difficult week.
How are you feeling as we are heading into this
Labor Day weekend, especially given what happened in Minneapolis and
how the country is grieving over the fact that these
two a durably beautiful young people lost their lives while

(35:38):
praying at school, and then so many others injured, some
of them still in the hospital. How are you feeling
this morning and what message would you want to send
to your constituents.

Speaker 10 (35:50):
Well, obviously, we've all got to continue to pray for
the families of these two two children, eight year old
and ten year old. It is a tragedy. And I've
been following and seeing the families of these children as
they put out statements, as they've actually gone on media

(36:13):
to share things they want to share about their children.
And we've got to continue to lift them up in
prayer and this entire community, I mean, many of the
children that whose lives were spared in the midst of
that craziness. It's amazing just to see those families knowing

(36:33):
their children have been traumatized. And you know, as a dad,
as a granddad, now I have grandchildren that are the
age of those children, and many of them they go
to Christian school. And when I saw the event just unfold,
of course, immediately my mind went back to just two
years ago when we were going through this in Nashville

(36:57):
with a shooter. And then of course, when it initially happened,
you never know about the shooter, you never know what
they're going through or what led to this situation. And
then of course as the news came out, things became
even more apparent of what we were dealing with. And
it's just, uh, it's just a challenge. I mean, I've
been sharing a message as I did interviews yesterday about

(37:20):
this that we've got to we've got to have serious
conversations in this country about mental health. But at the
end of the day, we've got to come to recognize
that when we've gotten ourselves in a position at times
of affirming a mental health crisis, and we can't do
that because when you when you affirm a mental sickness

(37:43):
rather than really seek to treat it, uh, people get hurt.
And I mean we we've seen that time and again,
going all the way back to what happened in Charlotte
on the light rail, and and I know the conversations
you guys have had about that that this guy had
already been rested seventeen times there in Charlotte, and it's

(38:04):
a real crisis that we've got to begin to get
some answers for.

Speaker 5 (38:08):
Are you concerned about some of the cuts that are
happening due to kind of the broader realignment of the
Department of Health and Human Services right now when it
comes to mental health and trying to get people into
places that can get them the help that they need.

Speaker 10 (38:28):
Beth, I'm not as concerned about the cuts that are
being made as far as the finances, because it is
just like you stated, it is a rearrangement, and I
think that we've just got to find better ways. There's
a lot of again we come back to it, waste,
fraud and abuse that has gone on in government spending.

(38:48):
But I do think that we've got to recognize where
we are and prioritize the things that need to be
made a priority. And I think that's where we are
right now with this mental health situation, and I think
moving moneys around to get them where we most need
to help is what we need to be considering.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
We were talking to David Chadwick yesterday. We always spend
a little bit of time with him on Thursday mornings.
And of course you share something in common with David.
You both have been pastors of large churches in the
Charlotte area. And when something like this happens, like it
did in Minneapolis earlier this week, at a place of
worship and kids at that in that place of worship,

(39:32):
I think about people like you because unfortunately we are
at this place in America and in the world where
places of worship have to think about things strategically as
it relates to security, and you have to make sure
that you have law enforcement in place for services and
something that I think, you know, twenty thirty years ago,

(39:54):
you wouldn't even I mean I thought about growing up.
I know who the policeman is who directed traffic across
the street when I went to church, But I never
thought about, you know, an armed security officer would need
to be there during the Sunday service.

Speaker 10 (40:08):
Well, you're exactly right, Bo, and that is something that
we've had to consider obviously more and more in recent years.
And and of course my wife, she teaches at a
Christian school, and I've heard after every one of these
incidentss heads get together and they begin to think, Okay,
what are we going to do to make things more secure?

(40:29):
And steps are taken and we do that in our
churches and it causes people to begin to question, you know,
how safe am I? And I keep reminding people, and
this is true of a believers, that we need to
stop and remember that we're not to live with the
spirit of fear. But we've been given a sound mind

(40:49):
and that's what the Lord intends for us. And so
we've got to continue to be wise. We've got to
continue to make the decisions that are best for the
safety and security of folks. But again, we can't we
can't live in fear.

Speaker 5 (41:03):
I love that message, Congressman, to remind people that that
is how we were intended. We aren't intended to live
in fear. That is that is a message that I
think a lot of people probably need to hear, as
they do feel fearful when we see headlines like this
one and when we grieve with these these families.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
This is Good Morning BET with Bo Thompson and Math
crowd Man.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
Seven thirty five on WBT On your Friday Morning. It's
Bo and Beth talking to Congressman Mark Harris, who joins
us every Friday, sometimes in the district and sometimes in DC.
And Congressman, what is the schedule are you headed? Are
you headed back right after Labor Day?

Speaker 10 (41:49):
We are. We are due to fly back in on Tuesday,
and so I'm going to be heading back on Tuesday
to be gearing up. I think we have boats Tuesday
evening day after Labor Day, we kick right back in
and so a lot of activity, a lot of decisions,
a lot of deadlines we're heading toward, and so great,

(42:10):
great deal of things to do.

Speaker 3 (42:12):
So President Trump on truth Social last night posted something
actually this is an earlier yesterday, but point being, it's
one of his most recent truth Social posts, and I
think it's an interesting notion. I'm curious to get your
take on this. He said, we won every aspect of
the presidential election, and based on the great success we
are having, we are poised to win big in the midterms.

(42:34):
We have raised far more money than the Democrats and
are having a great time fixing all of the country,
destroying mistakes made by the Biden administration, and watching the
USA heal and prosper. The results are incredible, a record pace.
In that light, I am thinking of recommending a national
convention to the Republican Party just prior to the midterms.

(42:54):
It has never been done before. Stay tuned. That would
be something and quite for if anybody would ever do it.
I think Trump's the guy. But what about the idea
of an off year election national GOP convention.

Speaker 10 (43:10):
Well, listen, I think that's a pretty novel idea. I
think it's interesting to consider. I had never thought about it,
I had not heard heard it until the President put
it out there. I think it's something It goes to show.
Bottom line, it goes to show just how important these
midterms are to this president and really to the country.

(43:34):
We have had an incredible start to this administration and
these first two years, I believe, just like these first
eight months have been so rapid fire in activity and
the steps that we've been able to make, and we
all realize that the midterms are just crucial and we're
either going to be able to continue making the progress

(43:56):
that we're making moving the America First agenda fall or
we're going to hit a wall if things were to
go poorly in the midterms. So there's a lot at
stake in this election coming up in twenty six. Of course,
we got municipal elections that are going to happen first,
and there's always a lot of state there. But I
think the president is basically it's almost like a challenge

(44:20):
that he would say, Look, we're not afraid to go
national and put everything out there of what we've done,
because we believe in what we've done. We believe the
American people. I mean, you look at what's happened in DC.
The poll that AP did said that eighty one percent
of Americans are recognizing that crime is a major problem.

(44:40):
And I think in that same poll, fifty five percent
approved of the president's handling of the situation. So I
think the president realizes that momentum is with him and
if we can get that national message, and look, can
you imagine he continues to know how to message, he
knows how to present, he knows how to get really

(45:04):
and truly his information out there to the American people
in a creative way and an effective way. And I'm
sure he's willing to take that, take that home, and
take that challenge.

Speaker 3 (45:15):
Well, he's the first president, you know, sitting president to
have rallies, like election style rallies during the time he's
in office. He did that all the time during his
first administration and that became kind of commonplace. But I
guess the real or another set of questions, uh dovetailing
from from the one about the notion of the off
year convention, would be, Okay, does all the do all

(45:38):
the media outlets cover it the way they'd cover a
traditional convention? And then would the Democrats follow suit if
it looked like it was gaining steam to make sure
they had their voice out there?

Speaker 5 (45:47):
So, well, who's the headliner, you know, because we're nominating
a presidential candidate at the conventions every four years. Like
to all the senators who are ruling stands.

Speaker 3 (45:56):
Up, it'd be like renewing your wedding veils. I'm gonna
I'm gonna renew my present or something like that. But anyway, well.

Speaker 10 (46:04):
That's a great question, and again that's been one of
the problems that Democrats have continued to have. They just
seem to be leaderless right now. And I mean there's
people are even throwing stones that they're on head of
the Democratic National Convention. They're just all kinds of things
that are going on, and they're somewhat rudderless. And again

(46:24):
I think when when you see blood in the water,
I think it's the time that you've got to You've
got to just move forward. And the President sees this
and recognizing that the Republican Party, we have a strong leader,
we have a strong majority that's working together, and we're
moving the nation forward, and seize that moment and promote it.
And you know, the media has to cover the president

(46:48):
obviously everywhere he goes, and this is a great opportunity
perhaps to and look, I'd love him to come back
to Charlotte. We We've been a great place to host
it in North Carolina.

Speaker 5 (46:59):
Hey, wouldn't that be fun? Have a You could get
us some access, couldn't you If that happens here.

Speaker 10 (47:05):
I would do all I could down match.

Speaker 5 (47:09):
While we have you. Before we let you go, I
wanted to ask you about because you're headed back up
to Washington, DC on Tuesday. One of the dominant headlines
of what's happening within the administration is the quote showdown
at the CDC as President Donald Trump wants Director Susan
Monterez to no longer be the head of the CDC.

(47:31):
And this is someone that he nominated and someone that
the Senate just recently confirmed. But it has to do
with this the idea of everyone working in the administration
being aligned with the president. Do you think that this
is a good idea?

Speaker 10 (47:47):
Well, obviously, to your point, you want any kind of
organization that you're running, whether it's a country, an administration,
or a business or whatever, you want everybody that is
serving in leadership to be moving in the same direction
and share the same priorities in what you're doing. And
I think that that is just a situation right now

(48:09):
where the president needs to have the confidence in the
people that he has running various organizations and various parts
of the administration. And I think you've got to You've
got to allow him that ability to make those calls
and and so I think that that's that's what this
issue comes down to, is the confidence that the president

(48:30):
has and the people that he has working with him.

Speaker 3 (48:33):
Congressman Mark Harris joins us once a week here on
Good Morning BT headed back to DC, and that is
where you'll be next week, I assume when we talk
to you, but we appreciate, we appreciate the time as always,
and have a good holiday weekend coming up.

Speaker 10 (48:48):
Well, Thank you very much. I hope you all have
a blessed weekend and looking forward to talking with you
next week.

Speaker 3 (48:55):
Hello Cohen, welcome to Good Morning BT.

Speaker 15 (48:57):
And Christmas Day.

Speaker 18 (48:58):
We will have been married.

Speaker 15 (48:59):
Fifty seven years.

Speaker 1 (49:00):
Oh yep, a woman in town and steel.

Speaker 9 (49:05):
Is that?

Speaker 15 (49:07):
Yes, some people marry you.

Speaker 6 (49:10):
I'm married ways.

Speaker 1 (49:11):
The hell of it?

Speaker 3 (49:16):
Well, Cohen, you have a great day. I feel like
we're just in the show now.

Speaker 5 (49:19):

Speaker 3 (49:21):
Call of the year.

Speaker 1 (49:22):
This is good morning, beaty.

Speaker 3 (49:24):
Wow, what just happened. I'll tell you what just happened.
This just happened because it is time on a Friday
morning to get it done. Seven four five, seven eleven ten.
We started this a few weeks ago and it kind
of caught on by like wildfire. And then people will

(49:47):
keep texting us all day into the weekend and one
one more thing.

Speaker 12 (49:51):
And this and that.

Speaker 5 (49:53):
It thrills us to no end because you know this.
You see lots of negative headlines, you hear lots of
stories that break our hearts, but we also have really
amazing things going on in our communities, in our homes,
with our families, with our friends, and we want to
celebrate those things as well. So we want you to
tell us something good that's going on in your world.

Speaker 3 (50:15):
You got a bunch of texts already piling up.

Speaker 5 (50:16):
He yes, seven O four five seven oh eleven ten.
Our WBT text line driven by Liberty Buick gn C Campbell.
Campbell in Concord says he would like to give a
shout out to his son Nathan at Central Caberras High School.
He's turning seventeen today and Campbell is so proud of
his seventeen year old son, Nathan. So Happy birthday to

(50:41):
Nathan Campbell at Central Caberras High School.

Speaker 3 (50:45):
Happy Birthday, Nathan. Got some people joining the fray here
at seven oh four, five seven oh eleven ten.

Speaker 5 (51:01):
Hey, kid.

Speaker 21 (51:03):
Doesn't mean anything to me, it does. I have whittled
my baseball glove collection down to about twenty five gloves, okay,
and I started with about two hundred and sixty. So
you know, I've been giving him away and it took
me a while to go through these. I've had him
in Duffel bags. For many years, and I kept my

(51:26):
USA made Hall of Fame gloves. Even found a Yogi
bearra fielders net. What in addition to the catcher's net.
A lot of people didn't know he actually played the field.

Speaker 3 (51:38):
And your house is like a museum.

Speaker 5 (51:40):
I really do feel like it. I feel like everything
in his home is behind a glass case that's well lit.

Speaker 21 (51:44):
Seriously, it's not glass cases, but I've enjoyed it anyway.
I just want to tell you that I've got rid
of most of my gloves except about twenty five.

Speaker 2 (51:56):
I'm keeping well.

Speaker 5 (51:57):
I'm proud of you. Ken. Do you feel lighter?

Speaker 12 (51:59):
Now?

Speaker 5 (51:59):
Do you feel is the weight off of you?

Speaker 21 (52:02):
I'll feel wider and less cluttered for sure.

Speaker 3 (52:05):
There you go, There you go.

Speaker 5 (52:06):

Speaker 14 (52:30):
Well, the Wolfpack aren't even set here's a throw in.
Cotter's got it at the forty five, breaks a tackle
at the fifty, got the left sideline forty thirty twenty five,
twenty ten five touchdown j C. Conter penalty flags all
over the field as a Wolfpack weren't even set getting
on the field. But for the second time of the game,
the Pirates take advantage of a slow moving wolfpack.

Speaker 5 (52:52):
Exchange of players.

Speaker 3 (52:54):
Yeah, that was self inflicted by the NC State defense.
Jim Zoki on the ECU Radio network. That's why he's
not here today because he called some college football last night.

Speaker 5 (53:04):
I'm so proud of him.

Speaker 3 (53:05):
Sochi, voice of the Pirates. In addition to his U
Carolina Panthers trying to think of another word, I can't
his duties.

You can't use the mollock cigarette.

Speaker 1 (59:34):
This is Good Morning Beat with Bo Thompson at Beth
Trout Bit Bob Bens Band's refrigerations.

Speaker 2 (59:40):
Do a lot to learn about this town, Sweeten.

Speaker 6 (59:45):
Iks for you to know, because.

Speaker 3 (59:51):
Now we all remember, don't we first one? You're gonna
come first. Cassette you ever bought, you have this freaking
I remember walking into New World Records on Providence Road
and buying for exactly eight dollars the cassette soundtrack to Ghostbusters,

(01:00:19):
mainly because of this song.

Speaker 6 (01:00:20):
I didn't care what else was on.

Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
I said, I got to have this song, this song,
And that was the first cassette I ever bought nineteen
eighty four. Why am I saying this? There's a trend
going on, and a big one. Considering that Taylor Swift's
new album, which is forthcoming, The Life of a Showgirl.
You may have heard about it. It's going to be

(01:00:42):
sold on cassette.

Speaker 5 (01:00:43):
Who's out, Yeah, brand new artist.

Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
Yeah, yeah, no, yeah, it doesn't sound familiar. She's up
and coming coming. She might make it, but her new
album in addition to the usual Spotify and I guess
you can still buy it on CD if you look
hard enough, and vinyl has a resurgence, we know that.
But she's also going to release it on cassette, which
I look. I will sit here and tell you all

(01:01:07):
day long. There are many things, especially in the world
of audio, that I'm nostalgic about. I am not nostalgic
about tapes cassettes. Like I'm telling you that there's growing up.
I mean, a certain generation knows. One of the worst
things as a kid, as you're listening to your favorite

(01:01:28):
song is hearing the the audio and then it gets
garbled and then you and then you and then you
open up the machine and the tape is stuck in
the player, and and even if you can get it
unwound with the pencil or however you did it, it's
never the same again. It'll they'll always be a part
of the cassette that is garbled because it got eaten

(01:01:50):
by the tape player. No, I'm not doing it.

Speaker 27 (01:01:55):
It'll be it'll be isolated in the next fifteen minute?

Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
Was that sound?

Speaker 6 (01:01:59):
That was so?

Speaker 5 (01:02:00):
But if you were lucky enough to be able to
get your garbled cassette tape out of your jam box,
because sometimes it snapped, sometimes you had to cut it
and pull it out by a string like like you would.
I don't know if you did. You guys have that
evil Knievel wind up motorcycle thing that you wound up
in the little little hutch, and then evil Kanevl would

(01:02:22):
take off on his little motorcycle.

Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
No, but we'll go with the story.

Speaker 5 (01:02:28):
My brother wound the motorcycle guy up and he grabbed it,
and then he put the motorcycle in my hair. In
my hair wound a wound wound around the motorcycle wheel,
and I had to cut it my hair with scissors
to get it out. And sometimes you would have to
do that with a tape so I was just trying
to give a visual.

Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
And even if you didn't have the tape garbled For
you kids out there who don't know what we're talking about,
if you listened to a tape that was just fine,
it sounded like this. It had a hiss.

Speaker 27 (01:03:01):
Well, yeah, and they wear over time, similar to similar
to vinyl. And you're talking to the collector in the room.
I mean, I have hundreds of records, hundreds, if not
a thousand plus CDs and a ton of cassettes.

Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
From being a kid and bo.

Speaker 27 (01:03:13):
You and I talked about this off the air the
other day because I sent you We've brought up now
and end up happily nine inch Nails doing the soundtrack
to the upcoming Tron movie. Well, they announced the other
day that they are releasing the Tron soundtrack on cassette.

Speaker 5 (01:03:30):
So it must be making a nostalgia resurgence, trying to
do what they did with vinyl.

Speaker 27 (01:03:34):
Yes, and now granted you can also get it on CD.
You can get it on vinyl, you can now get
it on cassette, and of course it'll release on digital
when it comes out next month. By the way, I
think it's September nineteenth, just throwing that out there. But
you know I sent you that article bo that. The
headline of the article was listen to the tron Aries
soundtrack the quote unquote the way it was meant to

(01:03:56):
be heard. And I thought no, because I've I've I've
heard plenty of interviews with Trent Reznor where he talks
about how, you know, putting things out in analog is
great and the warmth and you know that having that
tac tile actually being able to hold it in your hand.

Speaker 5 (01:04:10):
I do you love that? Is outstanding?

Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
I love it too.

Speaker 27 (01:04:13):
And I actually went ahead and I ordered the vinyl
and the CD versions.

Speaker 5 (01:04:17):
Of but not the cassette.

Speaker 27 (01:04:18):
Well, and I'm tempted to put the cassette on the
order simply because you know, it's like a red cassette.
It's limited edition, specially you can only get it from
the Nine and Nails website.

Speaker 11 (01:04:27):
Blah blah blah.

Speaker 3 (01:04:28):
But I would never open it. I don't.

Speaker 27 (01:04:31):
I mean, I do have a working cassette player, but
it's just like anything like, I wouldn't trust it to
not get ruined. There is a particular Nineage Nails album,
Pretty Hate Machine. I can tell you on cassette because
I did own it on cassette, long before I ever
owned a CD player. There's a very specific point in
a very specific song on that cassette where I know

(01:04:52):
that the sound is about to get destroyed because many
years ago it got caught up in my walkman, And
now that you had a YEP and it gets all
garbled and muffled, and it's like your music has scars.

Speaker 5 (01:05:05):
Yeah, but let's be fair to cassette tapes. That happens
with vinyl, and it happens with CDs as well. It's
just scratches and not you know, the machine eating it.
But it happens with VHS tapes. I just lost a
VHS tape of my dad bungee jumping to a VHS
player eating it.

Speaker 3 (01:05:24):
We can all imagine it.

Speaker 6 (01:05:25):
Though.

Speaker 3 (01:05:27):
You are right. You make a good point that a
record can have a scratch and a CD can have
a skip.

Speaker 5 (01:05:31):
Yeah, you have to lick it to get it, to
get it to work.

Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Kevin Warren, who is one of our most loyal listeners
over the years, sent me a note last night and
he said, this comes from a native nonconformist, Charlotte Tan.
But he said, here's a group, and the group is
called let me make sure I get this right, Margo Price,
not a group person, Margo Price. He said, here's an
artist pre selling her new release on eight track and

(01:05:56):
reel to reel, And he said, I know this is
off top, and I said, actually it's not, because we've
been meaning to get to the story about how there's
a resurgence of artists out there, and not just any artists.
I mean, the most popular one on the planet right
now is going to release her next album on cassette.
So there's a thing going on with this nostalgia. But look,
I get the vinyl as a as a child, smack

(01:06:18):
in the middle of the cassette era. I have no
desire to go back to when I got my music
on a on a cassette tape that my tape player
could eat or you know, it could get caught in
the compactor.

Speaker 5 (01:06:31):
Well you get it too close to a magnet and
that goe and it erases everything. But here, okay, let's
let's be positive for a second about the cassette there.
The good thing is that sound, that feeling, that holding
it in your hands, sliding that cassette into the little slot,
closing the door and pressing you have to actually press
that play button down on jam box.

Speaker 11 (01:06:52):
It doesn't click. It's full.

Speaker 5 (01:06:54):
There was a whole feeling to it. And there are
there are songs that have that noise at the beginning,
isn't there a Michael Jackson song was like Dad is
the best part and he changes the he put You
can hear him putting the cassette in.

Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
It's black or white. I'll find it in a minute,
because we got to go to traffic. But it's mcaulay
Culkin did that in the video. But on the actual
history album cassette, you're exactly.

Speaker 5 (01:07:15):
Right to hear the cassette sound. And there's something special
about that noise.

Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Look at you.

Speaker 3 (01:07:20):
You're exactly right about that. That's he just took me back.
But I will say this, I mean all this, all
this nostalgia about cassette tapes and you had to rewind
and fast forward. I don't miss that. Like the CD
was incredible because you just boom, there you go, and
even on a on a on a vinyl album, you
can just move the right you can see. Yeah, the
tracks doesn't make it. You have to rewind the whole

(01:07:42):
freaking thing. All right, traffic check right now, Boom or Voncanna.

Speaker 6 (01:07:45):
Who set time? Yes, sir, bring it back, bring them back?

Speaker 5 (01:07:48):
Really, I don't know.

Speaker 22 (01:07:49):
Yeah, they're convenient in many ways.

Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
I'd like to go back to that era for a
lot of reasons, but not so I can go back
and listen to subpar music on a cassette.

Speaker 6 (01:07:59):
No, the music quality is not that great.

Speaker 11 (01:08:01):
I don't agree with you.

Speaker 3 (01:08:02):
How about the eight track? Man? Yeah, I see that.

Speaker 15 (01:08:04):
I was not.

Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
That's after me.

Speaker 5 (01:08:06):
Do you remember the little mini cassette tapes that you
had put in like the little voice recorders or in
the answering machines. You guys know how I love miniature
things that make you feel like a giant. I loved
I loved that.

Speaker 6 (01:08:18):
Good Morning beat.

Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
This is good Morning Beauty?

Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
What?

Speaker 12 (01:08:27):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (01:08:28):
Is the best part?

Speaker 13 (01:08:30):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
Yes?

Speaker 12 (01:08:35):
The book?

Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:08:40):
I want to listen to it.

Speaker 5 (01:08:41):
Okay, see too late?

Speaker 9 (01:08:51):
Here we go? Sure this.

Speaker 3 (01:09:00):
You knew it was coming. I just had to dig
it up.

Speaker 12 (01:09:04):
See.

Speaker 5 (01:09:05):
Isn't there something really satisfying about that sound? And you
hear it and you can feel yourself doing the action itself.

Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
Very underrated album?

Speaker 6 (01:09:15):
This was.

Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
Anyway, we're taking time away from the person holding on
the line. College football back last night officially and in
full force this weekend, a full slate, but we all know,
you know, and and apologies to Ohio State and Texas tomorrow,

(01:09:43):
but we know what's coming on Monday night, the debut
of Bill Belichick and the biggest Tar Hill fan that
we know. First, Lady of Charlotte Sports, Sharon Thorsland, joins
us on a Friday.

Speaker 5 (01:09:57):
Good morning, Sharon, also my favorite shopping buddy at home.

Speaker 30 (01:10:01):
Exactly, I loaded up the cart.

Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
So Sharon, before we get to Bill Belichick, I do
want to ask you about this is somewhat unusual in
the NFL for a trade of this magnitude to happen
just days before the season starts. But all pro edge
rusher Micah Parsons traded by the Dallas Cowboys to the
Packers late yesterday in exchange for a compensation package of

(01:10:26):
twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven first round picks
and three time Pro bowler Kenny Clark. It's a big
deal in the NFL. The on the you know, the
doorstep of the season.

Speaker 9 (01:10:37):
Oh heck yeah.

Speaker 30 (01:10:38):
I mean I was like, blow your mind trade, But
I guess Jerry Jones figured that, you know, Parsons just
I think he would have held out. He was just
not going to play, and to lose the guy of
that magnitude for nothing, it was better to try and
get a deal done, to get him on field somewhere
else and to get that kind of capital and return,
I mean a pair of first round draft picks.

Speaker 9 (01:10:56):
That's huge.

Speaker 30 (01:10:57):
And like you said, Ken Clark, I'm a great defensive
tackle on the zone, right, So I think Dallas came
out okay on that one, and the Packers gave up
an awful lot for a guy that clearly is a
star player. So but yeah, that's pretty amazing considering an
opening week on opening week next week and then they
come back to Packers play ad Dallas this year, so

(01:11:18):
that's going to be an interesting matchup.

Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
When that happened, Yeah, they play in a few weeks.
Jerry Jones said that, hey, we made this move, but
now we have capital. There's nothing to say that we
won't make moves, more moves before the season starts. So
I guess maybe be on the lookout and to see
if this is you know, this whole thing is done.
But enough about the NFL Monday Night tar heels welcome

(01:11:45):
TCU to Keenan Stadium. I think this is easily the
most anticipated football game in years for the North Carolina
tar Heels. We talked to Jones Angel yesterday. He said
he's seen a lot over the years. He's never seen
the scene he saw at Top of the Hill with
Belichick a few nights ago for the Coaches Show. But
I got to know how you're feeling about this season

(01:12:07):
now that it all is sort of it's all built
to this and here we go.

Speaker 30 (01:12:12):
Oh my gosh, I'm so excited, and it's like I
almost don't even care if we win or lose. I'm
just like so excited to see Bill Belichick out there.
I mean, the greatest NFL coach of all time is
going to be stalking the sidelines to Keenon Stadium, And
that's just still it's still mind boggling to see him
in Carolina blue and to hear him talking about guitar
heels and to realize that he is the head coach

(01:12:33):
at North Carolina. I mean, and he's completely just overhauled
the program. I mean, I think they have like sixty
new players, twenty two new strivings. Crazy the amount of
guys that he's just churned the roster and is really
trying to turn it into a professional type atmosphere there.
And I was listening to the interview esday with Jones
and now he's you know, switched everything up where they

(01:12:55):
practice at different times now and he's just completely overhauled it.

Speaker 4 (01:12:59):
Now.

Speaker 30 (01:12:59):
We'll see if that pays any dividends out on the
actual field and just the amount of attention being paid
to Carolina football now. I think just that alone is
worth so much having him there and the recruits they're
starting to rack up. I mean, I'm not thinking that, oh,
this year we're going to go win the a SEC
championship and win a national championship. I think it's going
to take a little bit of time for him to

(01:13:19):
get his type of players in there and establish his
type of program. But I think that this is going
to be phenomenal to have him out there on Monday night.
I can't wait to watch.

Speaker 18 (01:13:27):
Well.

Speaker 5 (01:13:28):
I think one more really big positive. I mean, we
obviously see that he was able to recruit because he
is Bill Belichick. I think this also if he has
a great season, he's more likely to keep these players.
They're less likely to go into the transfer portal, right,
because they've got Bill Belichick as their head coach.

Speaker 30 (01:13:43):
Oh absolutely. And if there's anyone who can prepare you
for the NFL, it would have to be Bill Belichick.
I mean, you're not going to go shopping around unless
you unless you're not getting playing time. But the key players,
the good guys. If they have a successful season and
he's able to develop those guys, and yeah, I would
think that they would sit tight as opposed to jumping
into the portal like everybody does all over the place

(01:14:04):
these days. So that in itself is so invaluable as well,
because with the portal and nil and everything, it's just
wrecking college sports, does we know it? And so if
he could keep some guys in Chapel Hill and build on,
you know, whatever success they have this year on both
sides of the football, that would be would be key
as well, because I just can't imagine saying no to

(01:14:25):
Bill Belichick trying to If you're trying to make it
to the next level, he's your guy to get you there.

Speaker 3 (01:14:30):
So back to the NFL real quick here. Adam Thielen,
landed in Minnesota yesterday, said.

Speaker 25 (01:14:35):
This Carolina means a lot to my family, and I
now what a special place and is going to hold
a special place in our hearts for a lot of
reasons outside of football. Football, the relationships that you build
over a couple of seasons, and even in the training
camp this year. Didn't know this was going to happen
until yesterday morning, and so yesterday was an absolute whirlwind.

Speaker 12 (01:15:00):
Just didn't think that this was even a possibility.

Speaker 25 (01:15:02):
I thought the next time I would be talking to
you guys is when I was signed a one day
contract and returning.

Speaker 11 (01:15:08):
So this is pretty surreal.

Speaker 25 (01:15:12):
And again, I'm gonna take advantage of every second that
I'm back in this building, and I've tried to do
that from a little bit of a different perspective.

Speaker 3 (01:15:19):
So he loves being back, but he also loved where
he spent the last few years. Real quick. Your thoughts
on Adam Thielen leaving the Panthers right before the season starts.

Speaker 30 (01:15:29):
Oh, man, I hate it from a personal standpoint because
he was such a great guy, such a great guy
in the locker room. Clearly he was phenomenal on the
football field. It's such a great interview. I mean, just
a class act all the way around. So I hate
to lose him. I'm happy for him and that he
does get to go home, because I'm sure that's very
special to be able to, you know, finish your career

(01:15:50):
where you started it. And he certainly still has the
house up there and all sorts of ties up there
in Minnesota. So it really is that when you hear
Dan Morgan speak this week, it was a win win
situation because they got some draft capital out of it
and Adam gets to go back to where he started
his career. So but I hate it for the Panthers
just because he was so great, But they feel very

(01:16:12):
confident in the guys that they have out there on
the field right now, and if they could maybe get
Hunter Renfory to come back into the fold, then maybe
he could step in and fill some of that void
from Adam Delon. But I have a great player, class
act and I'm happy for him and glad that he's
back where he started his career and can finish it
up now.

Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
All Right, Sharon had so much fun during this segment
that she's decided to stay around for the next segment.
On the phone, She's going to be part of the
Friday News Quiz. All right, I was reminded that Boomer
won again last week, so he has started a news
streak Boomer von Cannon has so we will do that.
On the other side. See how much we retained from
Mark Garrison's newscast this week.

Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
This is good morning beating.

Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
Hey, I know that sound. That's the sound of the
Friday news quiz. Now let's make sure we know Boom
is here, correct Boomer, because I can't see Boomer and
Sharon is still hanging on as Sharon. Sharon, I'm here.

Speaker 5 (01:17:09):
A brave woman, Sharon, No, Mark, am I right about this?

Speaker 3 (01:17:13):
That back in the day when you used to do
news quiz in the evenings as part of Charlotte at Six,
Sharon would participate in those every once in a while. Right,
she did every once in a while.

Speaker 6 (01:17:21):
That's true.

Speaker 3 (01:17:22):
Yeah, this is not her first. This is not her
first rodeo which just put that out there.

Speaker 30 (01:17:25):
So it's been a while. Happy to do it.

Speaker 3 (01:17:29):
Here we go, Mark, all right, Today is National lemon
Juice Day.

Speaker 5 (01:17:34):
Lemon juice. You know you can't get enough of that?

Speaker 20 (01:17:36):
Which one of these is not a use for the
juice to lighten your hair color, to help prevent kidney stones,
to stimulate the appetite after chemotherapy, which one is not a.

Speaker 6 (01:17:50):
Use for the juice.

Speaker 11 (01:17:53):
We go with Bee.

Speaker 6 (01:17:54):
Yeah, kidney kidney stellons me too.

Speaker 5 (01:17:56):
I'm going to go with B as well.

Speaker 30 (01:18:00):
To say the kidney stones too.

Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
I'm gonna go with A.

Speaker 20 (01:18:03):
Is that everybody?

Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
You're all wrong?

Speaker 1 (01:18:05):
Oh?

Speaker 20 (01:18:06):
Oh, lightning hair and kidney stones is a use for
the juice. Stimulating the appetite after chemo.

Speaker 5 (01:18:12):
Is not our Wow, I never knew that. I I've
known that.

Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
We know you never knew that now.

Speaker 5 (01:18:20):
But I did used to use it to lighten my hair.
I'd squirt it on my head. I was gonna say,
lay out in the sun.

Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
Did it work?

Speaker 27 (01:18:25):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'm embarrassed to say I did that too.
Oh wow, I said it, but I am embarrassed that
I said it. So where are most lemons grown that
are sold in the US? Mexico, Guatemala, California or none
of the above.

Speaker 11 (01:18:42):
Oh gosh, none of the above.

Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
I'm rolling with Bernie again on this one.

Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
None of the above.

Speaker 3 (01:18:48):
Guatemala?

Speaker 5 (01:18:49):
Yeah, what is that movie? It's like you afraid of
my Guatemala?

Speaker 11 (01:18:55):
I was really close.

Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Are's gonna wordy that? But even if it's wrong, felt
like I was there.

Speaker 30 (01:19:02):
I'm gonna say, Mexico, Boomer, what.

Speaker 6 (01:19:05):
Do you say? I think Guatemala?

Speaker 3 (01:19:07):
Wow, California, we are fresh percent?

Speaker 5 (01:19:13):
Yeah, in California.

Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
In California, well, hey, we're all tied.

Speaker 20 (01:19:17):
That's what company is buying Pete's coffee for eighteen billion dollars.
Coca Cola, Doctor Pepper or PepsiCo PepsiCo PepsiCo, Coca Cola,
Doctor Pepper, PEPSI.

Speaker 3 (01:19:37):
I'll go doctor Pepper, Shasta.

Speaker 20 (01:19:39):
And it is is think it is doctor Pepper because
doctor Pepper also owns cig Did you know that?

Speaker 5 (01:19:47):
Yes, Beth, You're so excited about everything.

Speaker 12 (01:19:50):
You know.

Speaker 5 (01:19:52):
It hasn't been much today.

Speaker 20 (01:19:53):
Mark, all right, So, according to CNN, which radioactive ingredient
was found in the shrimp at Walmart? Was it iodine
one thirty one, uranium two thirty eight or caesium one
thirty seven?

Speaker 1 (01:20:11):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
Can I just share everybody in the studio right now.

Speaker 5 (01:20:15):
Immediately looked at Beth, I pulled out my pocket sized
periodic table. I'm gonna say uranium.

Speaker 11 (01:20:25):
I'm gonna go with uranium. Z.

Speaker 30 (01:20:28):
I remember the story, So I'm going to say the caesium.

Speaker 11 (01:20:31):
Yes, caesium. Wait you say boom for the rest.

Speaker 6 (01:20:36):
Is that everybody?

Speaker 3 (01:20:37):
Yep, the answer is caesium one thirty seven.

Speaker 6 (01:20:41):
On the board.

Speaker 3 (01:20:42):
I love that one, I said, my shrump.

Speaker 11 (01:20:44):
Do you see.

Speaker 20 (01:20:44):
I'll have it with the caesium one thirty seven please
and some cocktail sauce. A survey from you gov found
that forty six percent of American adults had not done
which of this are these? Which of these in the
past year, eating breakfast, taken a bath, or read a book.

(01:21:08):
Forty six percent have not done this in the last year.
I'm going to say, c say, read.

Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
A book, read a book, Ye, read a book, book,
read a book, read a book. Yeah, I read about
absolutely I am that percentage.

Speaker 5 (01:21:23):
Oh guys, you're breaking my heart.

Speaker 20 (01:21:25):
So AOL tomorrow ends dial up Internet? How many households
still rely on dial up in the US? One point
five million, three hundred twenty five thousand or one hundred
and sixty thousand.

Speaker 11 (01:21:41):
Let me go with the one point five yeah, Sam go.

Speaker 6 (01:21:43):
Low yes, sir.

Speaker 3 (01:21:44):
I'm going to say three twenty five yeah, same here,
three twenty five Sharon.

Speaker 22 (01:21:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 30 (01:21:49):
I'm right there with you. I don't think hardly anybody
has that anymore. I can't imagine having that anymore.

Speaker 20 (01:21:54):
First you'd listened to wbten Us this morning, you would
have realized the answer is one hundred.

Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
And sixty thousand.

Speaker 5 (01:22:03):
A right here, it's connecting.

Speaker 11 (01:22:07):
Anyway.

Speaker 20 (01:22:10):
Let's see here which food chain criticized openly criticized Cracker
Barrel for changing its logo. Was it Hearty's Waffle House? Well,
that's the pot calling the kettle black, right, or steak
in Shake? Which one criticized Cracker Barrel for changing its logo.

Speaker 5 (01:22:29):
I'm gonna say steak and shake as well.

Speaker 3 (01:22:32):
It is.

Speaker 15 (01:22:33):
It is steak and steak and shake.

Speaker 30 (01:22:36):
Yes, everybody else is that?

Speaker 20 (01:22:37):
I'm gonna say that too, Boomers saying it too.

Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
That's right.

Speaker 20 (01:22:42):
They blasted Cracker Barrel for not appreciating its history. What
is the name given to the powerful sandstorm that blackened
the skies in Phoenix this week? Is it known as
a haboob, a sirocco or an Arizona tempest?

Speaker 9 (01:23:00):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (01:23:00):
My goodness, go ahead.

Speaker 5 (01:23:03):
I know I was talking about this in the news
room right here in the studio because the guys looked
at me like I was crazy.

Speaker 20 (01:23:11):
If you know the answer, you should probably go last
that was a matter of strategery.

Speaker 5 (01:23:16):
I'm trying, but they keep telling me to go ahead.

Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
Because she shared it with us when the dust storm
came through and.

Speaker 5 (01:23:22):
We all laughed at it. They thought I was kidding.

Speaker 3 (01:23:25):
Okay, I don't remember what you said.

Speaker 11 (01:23:27):
It's aboob.

Speaker 3 (01:23:28):
Okayoo, we'll go with that.

Speaker 30 (01:23:31):
Yeah, simply because you're simply because you're saying things like that,
I'm gonna go with everything I've ever heard.

Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
It is a hoboob, which is Arabic four strong wind.

Speaker 5 (01:23:43):
Because I lived in Arizona for like five years and
I lived through some haboobs.

Speaker 20 (01:23:49):
As long as she didn't have the work done, that's fine,
I did not. Okay, do we have a winner here?

Speaker 5 (01:23:56):
We actually, as of right now, we currently have a
five way tie.

Speaker 6 (01:24:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:24:03):
I didn't know. I didn't think I did that.

Speaker 5 (01:24:04):
Well, all right, well, well none of us did.

Speaker 3 (01:24:06):
Well.

Speaker 27 (01:24:06):
I was gonna say none of us got on the
board until round three.

Speaker 11 (01:24:08):
Anyway.

Speaker 20 (01:24:09):
So well, let's say we'll try a couple of time
breaks here and see what happens. President Trump fired the
head of the Centers for Disease ConTroll doctor Susan Monaroz.

Speaker 3 (01:24:19):
True are false.

Speaker 20 (01:24:21):
One reason is she refused to endorse vitamin A as
a treatment for measles.

Speaker 3 (01:24:27):
Is that true or false?

Speaker 27 (01:24:30):
Hmmm, I'm gonna say false.

Speaker 3 (01:24:34):
I'm gonna say true.

Speaker 11 (01:24:36):
I'll say false.

Speaker 5 (01:24:37):
I think it was false. I think it was I'm
gonna see I'm gonna say false.

Speaker 20 (01:24:42):
Well you say, Boomster, I'll go with true, and the
answer is true Boomer and boom So now we're down
to Boomer and bowl again.

Speaker 27 (01:24:51):
Actually, Mark, yes, I hate to put it this way. Yeah,
Boomer was not involved in the five way top.

Speaker 6 (01:24:57):
Oh I didn't know that.

Speaker 27 (01:24:58):
Oh he just assumed just because of the okay, which means,
do we have a winner?

Speaker 3 (01:25:04):
Do you have a winner?

Speaker 6 (01:25:05):
It's the boaster.

Speaker 3 (01:25:08):
Waiting so long since I heard this song, but it's
got a three day weekend coming on. Come on sing
it to me. Now, go celebrate with the Haboom's right.
I came out of nowhere.

Speaker 5 (01:25:23):
It was like stealth bo stealth rainy bow all.

Speaker 3 (01:25:29):
Right, all together now sing it loud, singing proud.

Speaker 1 (01:25:35):
Bo I never.

Speaker 26 (01:25:41):
Good morning, here you go, Boomer here, thanks for playing Sharon.
That's right, all right, Sorry, man, see you later, loser.

Speaker 3 (01:26:04):
I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. Still going on seven
oh four, five, seven, eleven, ten. We do it at
seven point fifty every Friday, but we have, you know,
residuals as the show goes along and clingers. Is that

(01:26:31):
what you really want to call? The next first?

Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
Not at all?

Speaker 3 (01:26:33):
Okay, because we have someone who has called in with
some some breaking news.

Speaker 1 (01:26:41):
M b SC if you want to.

Speaker 3 (01:26:46):
Eight four three, it's an impromptu Friday visit from the
Wayney Ash down to the eight four three. The one
and only Wayne Troutman has joined to What do we
owe this pleasure on a Friday?

Speaker 6 (01:27:04):
Sir?

Speaker 15 (01:27:06):
Well, first of all, you know it's a beautiful day.
Y'all are doing a great job in there this morning.
But you, guys, I gotta tell you you are impressive.
Before I tell you about something good, I've got to
ask a special request. I want someone, if they will
have to follow Beth to the horse stable and get
me a video of her riding the horse. Of all

(01:27:31):
the things that Beth and I have shared as a family,
that's one we've never done.

Speaker 5 (01:27:35):
Oh Dad, where there's your dad inviting himself to this?
I think he is, But Dad, we rode horses together
in the mountains at night on a dark trail for
some reason, and I was roped to some young boy.
What it was? There was another young I was young,

(01:27:56):
and there was another young guy riding a horse, and
they tied our horses together. I guess because.

Speaker 3 (01:28:01):
Somebody just walked into the room and heard best say.
I was rope to a young boy.

Speaker 5 (01:28:06):
I was probably ten, he was probably ten, and they
tied our horses together.

Speaker 3 (01:28:10):
Wayne, It's all making sense now.

Speaker 15 (01:28:14):

about it. Brag. It's time for a little high lighthouse keeper.

Speaker 2 (01:31:12):
This is the place.

Speaker 12 (01:31:13):
Let's go from me.

Speaker 1 (01:31:14):
He's talking eleven ten and ninety nine three tube, bet
common sense.

Speaker 2 (01:31:19):
This is your wake up cow guess your brother.

Speaker 1 (01:31:21):
This is good morning beat with Bo Thompson and Beth
Trout And this place is a mouth and of goodness
and a mixed up.

Speaker 31 (01:31:28):
Work Friday morning in the Tyboid studio.

Speaker 3 (01:31:50):
Hey there, Hi, there, ho there Hancock is here.

Speaker 6 (01:31:55):
Which you'll be surprising to some people.

Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
Yeah, ladies and gentlemen, and this is our tribute to
the late great John Hancock.

Speaker 6 (01:32:05):
I'm happy to be a part of that.

Speaker 3 (01:32:06):
By the way, too, you're happy to be a part
of your own tribute, to be a part of my
own wake. Yes, haven't you ever wanted to attend.

Speaker 6 (01:32:14):
Your own funeral?

Speaker 3 (01:32:16):
Yes to hear the Yes, to see what they say
about you.

Speaker 1 (01:32:22):
Did you have a.

Speaker 5 (01:32:22):
Positive impact in any way, shape or form, But you
somehow are now part of yours.

Speaker 6 (01:32:28):
I had some listeners sent me and said I looked
you up on chat GPT and it said in the
seventies and the eighties, I built my career in Florida, Missouri,
and Michigan. Florida's right. I don't know where they got
Missouri and Michigan joined BT in nineteen ninety, that's correct,

(01:32:48):
worked other stations including WSJS and Winston.

Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
Salem, which is a station.

Speaker 5 (01:32:56):
Where did they get that?

Speaker 6 (01:32:58):
Never returned to BT in two thousand and one. No,
they're off by a year, But that's okay. Twenty ten's
rebranded myself as Charlotte's Radio Institution.

Speaker 5 (01:33:13):
Is that you branded yourself?

Speaker 6 (01:33:14):
Is that Yeah, that's it. Yeah, that would be as
ridiculous as like, say you were saying you were most
beloved or something.

Speaker 5 (01:33:21):
I mean, you know, talk about an ego radio institution?

Speaker 3 (01:33:25):
Is this full of half truths?

Speaker 1 (01:33:26):
Right?

Speaker 17 (01:33:27):
Right?

Speaker 6 (01:33:27):
Twenty nineteen retired from WBT after nearly three decades, and
then the part that is sad to me twenty twenty one,
passed away at the age of sixty six, remembered as
a beloved Charlotte broadcasting voice. So, so, anyway, I hope

(01:33:50):
I'm not starting to smell I've been I've been dead
for five years.

Speaker 5 (01:33:55):
You look really really good.

Speaker 3 (01:33:58):
Rest in peace, John Hancock. Catch him Fridays on Good
Morning BT.

Speaker 5 (01:34:02):
Right, How in the world? So this really if people
are depending on a chat I can never say chat GPT.
Why is it so hard to say jacked up? Yes,
if people are depending on chat GPT for factual information,
this is what you could come up with and then
suddenly believe it's true that you worked in Missouri and
Michigan and that you passed away five years ago. Yeah, yeah,

(01:34:26):
where did it get its info?

Speaker 6 (01:34:28):
I think we should have a I don't know, a
service for me here on the air some Friday.

Speaker 5 (01:34:35):
Let people call in.

Speaker 6 (01:34:36):
I'd like to like to hear what people have to say. Oh,
I remember the time that he forgot what he was thinking.

Speaker 3 (01:34:44):
Well, he you know, Hancock sends us each week an
email of sort of things that he's seen in the
news that we can talk about on Friday. Sometimes we
get to some of this. Sometimes there are other stuff,
but you know, we like to know kind of where
John's head is on things. And he sends one this
week that says, sad to announce that Charlotte's radio in
institution passed away. Who's that John? And he said, oh,

(01:35:04):
it's me. So there you go and chat GPT and
then the end rest in peace? Me.

Speaker 5 (01:35:12):
How bizarre that somebody sent it to you too?

Speaker 6 (01:35:16):
Well, God, don't tell Social Security.

Speaker 3 (01:35:19):
Oh yeah, yeah, we're blowing your cover.

Speaker 6 (01:35:22):
Man, I'm kind of liking those checks. I'm not. Well, actually,
they don't send you checks, They just add it to
your bank account.

Speaker 3 (01:35:30):
Well, and you wouldn't be around to see Colorado play
Georgia Tech tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:35:35):
Well come on that that may be a blessing. Nobody
knows what Colorado is this year, so we'll have to
wait and see.

Speaker 5 (01:35:44):
Are you excited though? Are you feeling positive, thinking that
it's gonna that Colorado is going to be something. I
know that they're they're down a lot of people, but
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (01:35:51):
I don't think that they're going to be fighting for
the national championship.

Speaker 3 (01:35:54):
They should they should or are.

Speaker 6 (01:35:56):
But you know, after going through being one of the
worst times in the nation, at least the last three
years have been fun. They got a high recruit that's
not starting at quarterback. They got the kid from Liberty
who's a fifth year senior or something like that, which

(01:36:16):
means one he can't past English and uh and and
and two he's he was good.

Speaker 3 (01:36:21):
So I don't know what they expect well, and the
question is is can Dion win without his own sons
on the team?

Speaker 9 (01:36:28):
Right?

Speaker 6 (01:36:29):
Well, I think he can. Could Shiloh come back? Shiloh
Shiloh's not doing anything.

Speaker 3 (01:36:34):
He got he got waived by Tampa Bay last week
and didn't get picked up. And then then of course
his other son, Shador Shadoor Sanders is still with the
Cleveland Browns, but he's he's pretty far down. This is
where I like close captioning.

Speaker 6 (01:36:52):
You know, my hearing impediment I have I do close
use closed captioning, and whenever they say Shadoor sandersy usually
in closed caption, comes out cheddar.

Speaker 3 (01:37:04):
Cheddar Sanders Well, it's a big weekend of college football.
You have Georgia Tech playing Colorado tonight. Of course, Jim
Zoki was on the call for E. E. C U
and NC State last night where the Wolfpack won. But
you have the huge game on Saturday and this this
Texas Ohio State game is on Fox. But the real

(01:37:25):
story on ESPN, in addition to the games they have,
is the fact that it's the final broadcast for Lee Corso.
On College Game Day, his last show, they said he's
coming back for one sendoff and then he's he's done
and they'll be back.

Speaker 6 (01:37:37):
People should be aware of that because there will be
a I mean, they'll pull huge numbers on Coursor's last appearance.
But don't just sit around on that channel at noon
waiting for Ohio State and Texas because they're on they're
on the local Fox affiliate, Jesse y.

Speaker 3 (01:37:53):
And you also have Alabama and Florida State that day.
You've got LSU and Clemson that night, and then of
course on Monday night, you have Bill Belichick his debut
at North Carolina. They have TCU coming to Keenan Stadium,
So it's you know, college football is back. Everybody's been
waiting for the big weekend.

Speaker 9 (01:38:10):
Here we go.

Speaker 6 (01:38:11):
So do you think Belichick's girlfriend gets as much airtime
as Taylor Swift did the first time?

Speaker 5 (01:38:16):
Or you know what we were talking about that are
they gonna cut pan over to her, cut to her
in a box somewhere or sitting on the fifty yard line,
you know, with their buds, or.

Speaker 6 (01:38:26):
You know, a week from tomorrow, I'm eligible for a
twenty seven year old girlfriend. So if you live that long,
I'm taking well, yeah, keep in mind I'm dead.

Speaker 5 (01:38:36):
But do we like Weekend at Bernie's.

Speaker 11 (01:38:39):
You're doing pretty good for yourself to right.

Speaker 6 (01:38:41):
That may be appealing to some of you. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:38:44):
Hey, we weekend at Bernie's. Our show is week at
Bernie's every week.

Speaker 5 (01:38:48):
Every week it's Bernie.

Speaker 6 (01:38:49):
Welcome twenty seven year old necrophilia.

Speaker 3 (01:38:53):
Nine thirteen on WBT. Another living legend, Oh Boomer von camber.

Speaker 11 (01:38:59):
Jab think he's dead?

Speaker 6 (01:39:01):
John, You look so good.

Speaker 22 (01:39:02):
It looks so lively here lately.

Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
It's it's the make up.

Speaker 15 (01:39:08):
Good, Good morning, Charlton.

Speaker 2 (01:39:11):
How you going bit from boat.

Speaker 3 (01:39:14):
I'm on my way to work.

Speaker 15 (01:39:15):
Been listening to the station for years.

Speaker 3 (01:39:16):
I went through the Murphy in the Morning John Boy
Billy settled on you guys about ten fifteen years ago.

Speaker 15 (01:39:22):
Been listening to bout for a long time.

Speaker 21 (01:39:23):
Loved the show with Beth and Boomer and all the guys.

Speaker 1 (01:39:26):
This is good morning, beauty.

Speaker 3 (01:39:34):
Is that who I thought it was?

Speaker 10 (01:39:36):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (01:39:37):
Was doing triple axels in the hall? Been a Scott Hamilton.

Speaker 5 (01:39:41):
Scott Hamilton triple axel.

Speaker 3 (01:39:43):
Sighting there I go. Good to see him in the house.
Good to have Charlotte's most beloved.

Speaker 6 (01:39:49):
I hate to interrupt breaking news.

Speaker 3 (01:39:52):
Uh huh.

Speaker 6 (01:39:53):
Possible mold on ding dongs has been led to a
national recall. If you you might want to check your
ding dog.

Speaker 3 (01:39:59):
Oh my god, Oh wait a minute. We have when
news breaks like that, we have a sounder for that.

Speaker 1 (01:40:04):
He's just in from the Burnie News Network.

Speaker 11 (01:40:08):
Does that mean I have to read it?

Speaker 5 (01:40:10):
I don't even know what I read that With that sentence,
I beg your pardon.

Speaker 6 (01:40:16):
I'm trying to keep up the WBT tradition of keeping
people informed.

Speaker 5 (01:40:21):
There's no when for you here, There really isn't and
it's a story that's coming out of the story of
John Hancock telling us that he passed away five years ago.

Speaker 3 (01:40:30):
We're here to tell you that the breaking news is
John is still here, still here.

Speaker 6 (01:40:35):
Did you have but they can't fire me because I'm dead?

Speaker 5 (01:40:38):
That's right. Where were you affected by the ding Dong mold?

Speaker 6 (01:40:42):
Nothing? Not that I know of.

Speaker 11 (01:40:44):
Were you affecting John? But we did maitled the compensation John.

Speaker 6 (01:40:49):
It's kind of like a tick check. You just got to,
you know, examined.

Speaker 3 (01:40:54):
But it was like the person the the the dead
John is in rare four today, it really is.

Speaker 5 (01:41:01):
But this is a real thing. I mean, if you
like a hostess ding Dongs, they it's it's the little
cupcakes with the cream inside. Do you guys know what
I'm talking about?

Speaker 3 (01:41:10):
That?

Speaker 5 (01:41:10):
Like the little chocolate ones.

Speaker 3 (01:41:11):
I'm just gonna say chocolate cake.

Speaker 6 (01:41:12):
The two counts, the ten counts, and the sixteen counts
are all They expire August thirty thirty one in September one,
two three. So check your.

Speaker 5 (01:41:22):
Dates on that, right because if they have an expiration
date and they already have mold, what happened?

Speaker 3 (01:41:28):
What happened? Well?

Speaker 6 (01:41:30):
Protein people are into protein.

Speaker 3 (01:41:35):
Es well, back to our regularly scheduled program. I think,
did you guys.

Speaker 5 (01:41:48):
See I mean, I know that I'm still stuck on
the hostess cakes. I'll say hostess cakes. That's a better
that's a better way to say it. But that's a
that's a big deal.

Speaker 6 (01:41:59):
Yes, that's a big dag molding ding dong is Yeah,
I would think so.

Speaker 3 (01:42:05):
Yeah, Hancock. Speaking of emails gotten from Hancock in the
last twenty four hours, that one is one that came
in later said breaking news. This is not on the
regular list.

Speaker 5 (01:42:13):
Right, it was a separate email, a separate email from him.

Speaker 3 (01:42:16):
Well, we were talking about how you found out via
chat GPT that apparently in that world you are no
longer with us. But you're here today to dispel that rumor. Now,
there is a story about someone in broadcasting that very
much was an institution and passed away. And it's somebody
that I'm not all that familiar with, but I know
you are.

Speaker 6 (01:42:37):
Gary birdbank up and made his claim to fame in Cincinnati.
Died at eighty four, but he spent a lot of
time in Louisville, Kentucky, and he was a good friend
to Steve Crump's and so I immediately thought of Steve
because he was I think he and Gary communicated with
each other back and forth up until the time that

(01:42:58):
Steve passed away.

Speaker 5 (01:42:59):
You know what that they are shaking hands up in
heaven and off to tell some great story together.

Speaker 6 (01:43:07):
For as great as Steve was in TV and his
documentaries and the impact that he had there, there was
always a guy inside there that wanted to be a
radio announcer.

Speaker 5 (01:43:20):
You know, we were talking about this in the commercial break.
Having spent the first part of my career a good
twenty years in television, and now I've been doing radio
with Bo for gosh, We've almost doing this for almost
four years together.

Speaker 7 (01:43:33):
Bo.

Speaker 21 (01:43:35):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (01:43:36):
I don't know why everyone doesn't do radio. It's there's
something so magical about this medium that you just can't create, recreate.
You can't do it in television. And if I had
known all of those years ago, in my twenties and
when I started out, if I could go back and
redo it, I'd probably do this instead.

Speaker 6 (01:43:55):
I think that's true with talk radio, spoken word radio. Obviously,
I haven't worked as a rock jock or anything like
that in a long long time. But you know, they
they give you a list of the songs to play,
and they tell you that you've got twelve seconds to
do this, that and the other. It's management and corporate

(01:44:19):
now has their hands in the on air product so deep.
But I'm not so sure that it was the freedom
that made it great. And I can't explain to today's
generation how magical the late sixties and seventies were. But
those guys were masters. They created their own characters, they

(01:44:39):
put them on reel to real tape, they interacted back
and forth with technically themselves, and they did it all
in the middle. You know, two and a half and
three minute songs. Those guys were magic. But you know
what it comes under the hire good people and let
them do their job. And as far as I know,
you guys work for those kinds of people. Mike Schaeffer

(01:45:01):
and Marsha I think they pretty much let the people
here do their jobs.

Speaker 3 (01:45:09):
It's true and right on the money.

Speaker 11 (01:45:13):
And you're right.

Speaker 3 (01:45:14):
It's interesting because news talk the format is a relatively
new format in comparison to some of the other formats
that you were talking about that people.

Speaker 6 (01:45:23):
Grew up on.

Speaker 3 (01:45:23):
I mean when I was a kid, I grew up
and the thing that made me want to be in
radio was listening to Top forty radio here in Charlotte.
Now I discovered WBT also, but my entry to this
station was was Henry Bogan, who was doing talk radio
at night. But it was it was much different than
news talk today. But I think all the all the
stuff that you talk about about, you know, the timing and.

Speaker 6 (01:45:46):
The Murphy in the Morning, the Belmont Tunnel and all
those things that he and Sprinkle used to do and
Jay Thomas. I mean, I know those of you who
are in natives and we're here for that time period
to have Murphy in the Morning and Jay Thomas one
after the other come on. That's that's some great, great radio.

Speaker 3 (01:46:08):
That's why every time Larry comes by, you realize how
good he is. And you can tell how good he
was because he's been away from radio for thirty years
doing TV. But he sits down in that chair where
you are and it all just comes roaring back, and
his timing is there and his his know how that
never left him and he uses it in TV in
other ways. But I always feel like there's a portion

(01:46:31):
of the younger demographic out there that got cheated out
of not hearing Larry Sprinkle on the radio on a
regular basis because he was a force.

Speaker 6 (01:46:39):
Well and had the chance to leave. You know, when
Murphy left and Donald's left, they both said come with me,
and he just never wanted to. He just wanted to
stay in Charlotte. He likes to hear. Yeah, there was
a morning team up in Wilkesbury, scrim in Pennsylvania. They
had offers from Philadelphia and New York and all sorts

(01:47:00):
of places, and they just never would leave. You're talking
about Scranton, Pennsylvania and not going to New York and
the money and the fame and the but Daniels and
Webster I think was the name of the show. And they,
you know what, they were natives up there, and their
goal was to be big shots in their own in

(01:47:22):
their own town. And they and they achieved that for
years and years and years.

Speaker 3 (01:47:27):
And I can't help but think back to Charlotte's radio institution.
That Hancock guy was so good.

Speaker 5 (01:47:33):
Yeah, I mean, he just he took talk radio to
a new level.

Speaker 3 (01:47:37):
Oh my god, he's right there. What I wouldn't give
to bring that guy back.

Speaker 5 (01:47:40):
Hear him one more time.

Speaker 3 (01:47:42):
You know, that big weekend thing he used to do. Yeah,
I'd love to hear that again.

Speaker 5 (01:47:45):
It was magic.

Speaker 3 (01:47:47):
All right. Well we'll reminists during the break here, mister Thompson,
you're a straight shooter.

Speaker 1 (01:47:53):
This is good Morning Beaty with Bow and Bath.

Speaker 6 (01:47:57):
Big Weekend presented by Watson and Shure.

Speaker 21 (01:48:00):
Trims that I know.

Speaker 28 (01:48:02):
Living in this town, and I've come far to see them,
Gonna track them down.

Speaker 12 (01:48:09):
They live in a bread house.

Speaker 3 (01:48:13):
Ain't is white and brown?

Speaker 8 (01:48:19):
Got to chip before the maid and I backed up
my guitar, drop my key on.

Speaker 12 (01:48:26):
The county red and hard.

Speaker 1 (01:48:29):
And I look up with up.

Speaker 2 (01:48:31):
Later he'd go hit the bar.

Speaker 29 (01:48:39):
I need a big week.

Speaker 15 (01:48:44):
He got the dies.

Speaker 5 (01:48:49):
Yeah, big week.

Speaker 3 (01:48:54):
Let you down run your ris.

Speaker 7 (01:49:00):
That I may shake your man, but I won't know
your name.

Speaker 1 (01:49:05):
The joke in your.

Speaker 4 (01:49:07):
Language don't come out the same these times when I'm down, it.

Speaker 15 (01:49:14):
Is not than the Blaine.

Speaker 20 (01:49:20):
I need to big week.

Speaker 1 (01:49:26):
That yea week, baby down.

Speaker 6 (01:49:36):

Speaker 3 (01:50:35):
It's best not to stay.

Speaker 2 (01:50:41):
How did you did week.

Speaker 7 (01:50:48):
Es?

Speaker 13 (01:50:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
Week lead you down, run Russ.

Speaker 3 (01:51:00):
And there you go.

Speaker 6 (01:51:01):
Big Weekend presented by Watson Insurance Agency, protecting what's important
since nineteen thirty four. Boom Shaka Laca All Surfday Salah
is bo Jingles just was and a Labor Day Parade
is on Monday, starts at eleven o'clock in the morning
and the Annalibowitz Exhibit last day Sunday. So there you go.

Speaker 3 (01:51:28):
You mentioned Matthews Alive coming up this weekend. I'd be
remiss if I did not go to the hotline. The
text line I should say, our good buddy super fan
will Tims says something good this weekend that I'm very
excited about. I'll be playing for the Matthews Alive Festival
for their VIP lounge.

Speaker 9 (01:51:45):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:51:46):
This is where all the arts and crafts vendors will
hang out when they are taking breaks during the day.
I'll be playing tomorrow from two to four.

Speaker 5 (01:51:53):
Feel good for me a little.

Speaker 11 (01:51:56):
That I was about to say. I don't know if
Will's ever gotten on again.

Speaker 1 (01:51:58):
Yeah, it was a good morning, DT Humble Brad.

Speaker 5 (01:52:03):
We're proud of Will. He also, by the way, if
you haven't heard him play the piano, he is fantastic.

Speaker 3 (01:52:11):
Yeah, he played at the Night's game earlier this summer.

Speaker 5 (01:52:13):
Played the organ is so good.

Speaker 3 (01:52:16):
So he's a good friend of the show. And you know,
I was mentioning you weren't here, John, but I we
got to talking the other day about old school radio,
as we tend to do. And I'm trying now remember
how I got on the subject of talking about my
old friend who you know, Max, who used to work
in the other room with Ben, Bob and Sherry were here,
Max Sweeten, who's a long time radio fixture in this town,

(01:52:38):
and we were talking about him the other day. I
know what it was because we talked about guerrilla radio,
remember that, And somehow that got us down the tangent
of old school Charlotte stations. And I mentioned that Max
used to work for Kiss one oh two, the station
Kiss one oh two.

Speaker 6 (01:52:55):
For Mike Butts, who's a good friend of mine.

Speaker 3 (01:52:59):
See, I didn't know that. Yeah, So we were talking
about and I mentioned Max, and I haven't seen Max,
and I mean I saw. I see Max every once
in a while, but I don't see him much because
he doesn't work in our building anymore. Still works with
Bob and Sherry. And I went to Public's right after
the show a couple of days ago, and I'm sitting
there in the deli section wait for them to give

(01:53:19):
me my my turkey right and uh, all of a sudden,
I hear Bo Thompson and I looked around on it
was Max.

Speaker 5 (01:53:25):
Oh, how weird. It's like you conjured him. The friendship
back up. Sometimes if you say people's names enough, they'll
call you or they show up.

Speaker 3 (01:53:33):
So Max and I said this to the other day.
Max used to work at well Kiss one o two
back in the day.

Speaker 14 (01:53:39):
You're next thing too, the most music Kiss one o
two at mean Jemen Keen.

Speaker 3 (01:53:47):
And I mentioned on the air mean Jam and Jean
was one of their most famous jocks and.

Speaker 5 (01:53:51):
Both doesn't the in control had him throwing a.

Speaker 3 (01:53:53):
Potty for a bunch of shows. They got out of
the business. Something came back okay, So.

Speaker 5 (01:53:58):
They packed up, the group, got a grip, came up,
the proton backs on the back and they split Evil
the master of Evil try to battle my boys. That's
not legal.

Speaker 9 (01:54:08):
H thank you.

Speaker 3 (01:54:08):
We wrap.

Speaker 5 (01:54:09):
We do this on the weekends together.

Speaker 3 (01:54:10):
So I mentioned me and Jam and Jean the other
day and I told Max, I said, you're not going
to believe this, but we were just talking about you.
I mean, what are the odds that I would see Max?
And I said, we were talking about Kiss one O
two and mean Jam and Jene. Then I thought, well,
do I have any any Max?

Speaker 1 (01:54:23):
And I do.

Speaker 20 (01:54:24):
Now on with the counts down, Casey's top forty on
the most music Kiss one O two.

Speaker 12 (01:54:31):
Talk.

Speaker 3 (01:54:32):
So that's what Max sounded like. He was the guy
who did like Kiss one O two.

Speaker 6 (01:54:36):
The other irony of that is you're sitting there waiting
for your turkey and Max shows up.

Speaker 3 (01:54:43):
Now the best part of it all, the whole reason
I'm bringing this back up is I said that when
he used to work in this building, I used to
walk in the hall and I'd see him and I go,
I go triple the music, and he go kiss one
O two, because that's how their old sounders sounded. So
we're in the store and we you know, called up
for a second, and then he went on about his
way and went off in different directions. So then about

(01:55:06):
five or six minutes later, I'm pulling up to the
self checkout because that's how I rolled it, but he
does and I'm sitting there checking my stuff out, and
all of a sudden, I hear triple the music and
he had walked up behind me, and I without even thinking,
I went kiss one O two. And then I thought, boy,
the people around me must think I'm just nuts, because
some lady at the next key ask her me go

(01:55:27):
kiss to a random stranger. In her mind, this is
my life. I see him on the front end in
the deli section, and then as we're leaving, you know,
he and I are doing the old thing we did
in the hall, triple the music, kiss one or two.

Speaker 6 (01:55:42):
That's where I first met him, was at kiss and
I wasn't working at Kiss, but I was wooing a
local TV anchor who was doing news for Mic Butts
at the time, and so I worked with Max to
get in the building that morning and I brought her
breakfast wow. And he worked with me through all of that.
But he's one of my favorite people and talk about

(01:56:02):
an asset to Bob and Sherry for since I think
they started is I mean, he's he's as big a
part of that show as as anybody. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:56:13):
Absolutely, And he's one of those guys if you grew
up in Charlotte radio, Uh, you know his voice, and
he's an even better guy. He still he's active in
the local theater scene, too big there, so he's uh,
he's a great guy. But uh he'll now be just
floored that twice in one week. We've been talking about
Max on Kiss one oh two. But I had to
tell that story because you're at the you're at the

(01:56:34):
kiosk and all of a sudden you hear triple the
music Kiss like radio people are so weird.

Speaker 12 (01:56:41):
Hits.

Speaker 7 (01:56:49):
Too hot in the hands of too cold to hole
they called the ghost buffers in controls, throwing pos, bunch
of children, tall wild sound the buildings totally kind of
a grip camic gripsrap, proton pack and the split.

Speaker 1 (01:57:06):
My voice.

Speaker 4 (01:57:07):
That's not legal.

Speaker 3 (01:57:16):
Good morning, wanted a great.

Speaker 1 (01:57:22):
Yeah, I think this is gonna be another one of
those foes.

Speaker 6 (01:57:25):
So dance.

Speaker 3 (01:57:28):
Spelling Beth ear and Hancock on the final stretch. Yeah,
into a labor day weekend. Boy, we've had We've had
all the Ghostbusters boxes today.

Speaker 5 (01:57:41):
We really have. And I I feel like the original
Ghostbusters song gets all of the attention when Bobby Brown's
is less remembered and it was slamming. It was fire,
as the kids would say, I mean it was lit.

Speaker 3 (01:57:54):
He worked proton packs into the song, into a rap,
and you know, I don't make them like that anymore.
I know some people out there saying why did they
make that in the first place? But you had to
be there. Hancock is here, I mean he's really here.
Like it's not a joke. He is here among us
on the earth.

Speaker 11 (01:58:12):
If you're just joining us, he has risen.

Speaker 6 (01:58:17):
Yeah, you had to have been here earlier to.

Speaker 3 (01:58:19):
Understand that's right. If you don't know what we're talking about,
go listen to the podcast. We have a few things.
But by the way, Colorado plays tonight against Georgia Tech
College football weekend. So many people have been waiting for
this to be on the calendar. And then there's me,
who's going to watch tennis. But that's me. Tonight not
only did the Buffaloes play, but there is other Colorado

(01:58:41):
Buffalo news. There's mascot news. Ralphie six.

Speaker 6 (01:58:49):
They Ralfie's go for a while, and then they bring
in another Ralphie, but the one that they've just tired,
that's been the official game mascot that runs the you know,
runs out of the tunnel, lived at the beginning of
the game and after halftime apparently is indifferent to running,

(01:59:10):
and so they're retiring him. He's gotten to be a
little bit too much of a handful. She excuse me,
they're all she.

Speaker 3 (01:59:17):
I think there are a lot of people out there
that would say they're indifferent to running.

Speaker 6 (01:59:21):
Well, but in Boulder, that's like a capital sin in
Boulder the exercise capital of the world. The run up
a mountain, you know, the bikers that get on their
bikes and ride up a fourteen thousand foot peak and
do stuff that you just can't even imagine. And boulders
are real biking, running, active community. So to have a

(01:59:45):
mascot that's indifferent to running is almost I have a
feeling he may be on your local dinner plate someplace.
But anyway, we've got no mascot tonight. They won't be
running the Buffalo out tonight.

Speaker 5 (02:00:00):
Could could Could they maybe get a different Buffalo enjoy running.

Speaker 6 (02:00:05):
They're working on Ralphie's seven and probably already have her,
but it takes a while to train them to run
out and not like to get used to, you know,
thousands of people screaming and so on and so forth,
and to have it run a half oval and then
run back into the truck at the end of it.

Speaker 5 (02:00:24):
This job is that who grew up saying you know
what I want to do. I want to train Buffalo
to run at a football game.

Speaker 6 (02:00:31):
I've known a couple of the guys that were on
the crew that run with Ralphie.

Speaker 5 (02:00:36):
That'd be a fun job.

Speaker 6 (02:00:37):
Well, yeah, maybe you know your good days, bad days
don't wear red. One of my friends got cast halfway
having to didn't throw by because they all have a rope,
and Buffalo's are pretty pretty stout.

Speaker 3 (02:00:54):
They're huge.

Speaker 6 (02:00:55):
Yeah, So, but I still think it's and I'm biased,
but I still think it's one of the best mascots
in college football.

Speaker 5 (02:01:04):
When you said, when you originally sent this story and
said that the mascot was indifferent to running, I thought
you met a human who just decided I don't really
want to run anymore. No, no, in my mascot costumes.

Speaker 6 (02:01:14):
This is a real buff actual buffalo who they say
that it's more comfortable just hanging out in the field,
happiest relaxing at the ranch.

Speaker 1 (02:01:24):
Okay, there you go.

Speaker 6 (02:01:25):
So she and I have a lot in common, the
indifference to running and just wanting to hang out at
the ranch.

Speaker 12 (02:01:31):
I get it.

Speaker 3 (02:01:32):
You imagine having to train Hugo like trying to train
a hornet, the.

Speaker 5 (02:01:36):
Actual, a real live hornet. If they started sending hornets
out in the beginning of the games, light night.

Speaker 3 (02:01:41):
Little tiny leashes, and if you mess up, you get stung.

Speaker 5 (02:01:44):
You get stung bad.

Speaker 3 (02:01:46):
Alright, it's been a week, thanks of course to Boomer
von Cannon back in the traffic center sharing Thorsland, and
