Good morning, great to be here. I love Jim Zok.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Yes, thank you Mike.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
We all love Jim Zoch Hei G two. We love
the announcement. That's it, that's it, that was it. Now.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
We all love this radio station. And I want to
for the moment because you know, this is kind of
what I do. I want to go back a little bit.
The first wbt FM launched in nineteen forty seven on
the nine to nine point nine frequency, playing storecasting music.
It was ultimately discontinued. Wbt FM returned to launch on

(01:01):
one oh seven point nine in nineteen sixty two, first
playing classical and then beautiful music. In nineteen seventy eight,
wbt FM became WBCY, initially playing album oriented rock before
fully embracing contemporary hit top forty music in the mid
nineteen eighties. I remember because I was listening they used

(01:22):
the moniker all hit one o eight WBCY. In nineteen
eighty nine it became wbt FM again as an adult
contemporary station one oh seven point nine Sonny FM, now.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Snicely designed for you to listen longer, but at least
fifty minutes of the greatest hits of yesterday in the
day on Charlotte's new one o seven point nine Sonny FM.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Oh, it's been a while since we heard that jingle. Meanwhile,
Sunny FM later became WWSN then later's later years became
w llen K has one oh seven point nine the link. Meanwhile,
in nineteen ninety five, Jefferson Pilot bought Chester, South Carolina

(02:15):
based ninety nine point three WBZKFM. Those calls law letters
were later changed to wbt FM, and so now thirty
years later, this December eleventh, that's in just a few days,
wbt history will be made again as the WBTFM call

(02:37):
letters return to one oh seven point nine's frequency with
the debut of Charlotte's FM News Talk one oh seven
point nine FM WBT coming later this week, and we
are so excited.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
To announce.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
That the future of WBT is now going to be
on the most powerful FM frequency in this market and
for that matter, in this region. One O seven point
nine WBT will happen on Thursday morning.

Speaker 5 (03:13):
Thursday of this week one oh seven point nine Charlotte's
FM News Talk.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
It's a very very very exciting time, very exciting time
for this radio station, and it just shows that we're
moving into the future right. We want to be here
fifty years from now and this is really really important
for us to be doing this and so excited.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
Well, look, we couldn't be more thrilled. When we got
the news at the end of last week. We had
a little celebration here in the studio. I biged cookies
today for everybody so that we could all celebrate together.
But I think most importantly we want to say thank
you because that means that you all and Radio one,
you have faith in us.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Mike Schaefer, you have been the captain of the ship
here for the better part of this last decade. This
is a big deal for this radio station.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
It is a big deal, and it's a it's been
a long road.

Speaker 6 (04:02):
As Marcia will uh will tell all of us off off.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
The air at some point.

Speaker 6 (04:08):
There hasn't been a week that's gone by since I've
known heard that I haven't talked about this very moment,
So uh, you know, to say that it's a big
deal is uh is obvious but uh but but it
most definitely is in in in you know personally, because it,
like I said, it has been a long road.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Well, when you talk about the history of this station,
and you talk about the famous and long standing uh
AM stations across the country, the ones that are still
viable and the ones that are still around, quite frankly,
if you look around in the major markets are ones
that have begun broadcasting on a high powered FM. Now,
I'll tell you, sitting here, as a long time employee

(04:48):
of this radio station and a student of its history,
that I have longed for the day where this station
would finally be on an FM signal of this power
that it deserves to be here.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Quite frankly, I never thought I'd see the day that
we would be on one oh seven point nine. And
as a kid growing up, I listened to two stations
in this market. I listened to this one eleven to
ten WBT, and I listened to one oh seven point nine, which,
as I said back in those days, was a one
o eight WBCY. But those were the two most near
and dear signals to me and two of the most
powerful ones, obviously. And the opportunity for this station to

(05:22):
now be on one oh seven point nine, I never
thought I'd see this day. But I'm so incredibly excited
about this. You may be wondering what happens to the
other Radio one properties, and we'll talk about this for
a second. Marsha w Allen K, which is mixed one
oh seven point now A nine, will now be found
at one hundred point nine FM and ninety nine point

(05:43):
three FM, continuing to deliver Charlotte's best mix for adult
contemporary music fans. Their current lineup of people like Matt
and Liz and Holly Hayes and Madison James will still
be there. Praise one hundred point nine, Charlotte's Inspiration Station
will now broadcast on one oh two point five FMA
and six' ten. Am one oh two five of The,

(06:03):
block which has been charlotte source for hip hop AND
r AND, b will be exiting this. Market so you're
wondering how the dominoes are affected or how they fall
based ON wbt moving to one oh seven point. Nine
there's your sort of decoder sheet for. That.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Yeah AND i have to say this was not this decision,
obviously when you look at moving that many listeners and
having them find new dials was not made into. Lightly
but when we looked at our asset of radio, stations
and we looked at the listeners that we're trying to deliver,
to and looked at our advertisers quite, frankly, right because
without our, advertisers we don't. Exist and so we just

(06:40):
felt that by making this move and GETTING wbt on AN,
fm for the future of the radio station and for
the future of the existence of us being able to
really do what we, do which is serve the, community
serve our, listeners server o, advertisers that this was a
really important move to. Make so the good news is
again lots of research went into, this and so with

(07:01):
our other radio stations and where their listeners, fall it's
going to be a win win for. Everybody AND i
could not be more excited to HAVE wbt on a
high power one hundred thousand AND YT, fm which is.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Amazing we have more to talk about. HERE i know
there's a lot of reaction out, there, PROBABLY i, mean
this is the Biggest i've been working here almost thirty,
years and this is by far the biggest announcement That
i've been a part of. Here but this is a
one hundred and three year old radio, station and so
we don't do anything as it regards this station lightly around,
here and of course never. Have you may be wondering

(07:34):
what happens to eleven, ten the eleven Ten am, signal
and we will talk about that when we come back
here ON. Wbt but again coming up This. Thursday it
is history in the making as we've become one oh
seven point NINE, FM Wbt Huge talk eleven, ten nine
to nine, THREE Wbt Bo, Thompson Beth, Troutman radio One Market,

(07:58):
Manager marsha Lan is in, STUDIO wbt Program, Director Mike
schaeffer in, STUDIO Wbt Sports Director Jim zochi in, studio
And bernie And steve and hopefully so many of you
listening right now on the heels of our major major
announcement that coming This, THURSDAY wbt moves to one oh
seven point NINE. Fm to Become CHARLOTTE'S Fm News. Talk

(08:24):
now you may have. Questions you probably have many. Questions
we had, QUESTIONS i had, Questions BUT i think the
biggest question outside of where we're moving is what becomes
of eleven. Ten we're here to tell you today that
eleven ten in the immediate, future On, thursday will continue
to SIMULCAST. Wbt that will happen for the rest of this.

(08:46):
Month in Early, JANUARY wbt will seize to broadcast the
brand on eleven. Ten, Now, MIKE i want to get
you to speak to a little bit about, that because
that is obviously a question that people have had some
some thloughts.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
About.

Speaker 6 (09:00):
Sure, absolutely we are currently sitting in The tyboid studio AT.
Wbt that history is something that is near and dear
to all of, us myself, Included, marcia, included all of
you and everyone here. Listening that BRAND wbt will. Continue
we will be the stewards of that history at one
oh seven point NINE, fm not going, away not going

(09:23):
to be, forgotten and will be you, know talked about
for the next hundred, years which is why we're making this.
Move as it REGARDS WBT am eleven, ten we will
continue as a. Company Radio one And Urban one will
continue to proudly own and OPERATE am eleven TEN. Wbt

(09:45):
there's no question about, that and please stay tuned for
announcements coming as to exactly what that programming will.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Be And, marcia in order to make the move to
one oh seven point, nine which is what we're, doing
which is a tremendou this tremendous. Opportunity in order to
make that, Move Radio one had to make a, decision
a business decision about how that could. Happen and part
of the way that that happens is What mike just talked,
about the fact that in Early, january THE wbt brand

(10:16):
will have to move from eleven.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
Ten, YES i, mean and please note that to do,
this behind the, scenes we had about fifteen to twenty
people working on this for quite. Sometime, again this is
not something that we take, lightly and this brand is
so very important to, us and you're going to stay
in this. Studio the history of this studio will remain

(10:39):
the history of the people that have made this radio
station so. Important but, yes it is a business. DECISION i,
mean we had to protect our number one asset in
this cluster and our number one radio station and that IS,
wbt and so with that we had to put it
on a signal that more people could hear. It and,
yes we have a power full fifty thousand watt radio,

(11:01):
station right but one hundred thousand watts delivering to listeners
and consumers to support our. Advertisers so, yes it was
a business, decision but As mike, said not taken without
the emotional attachment to this brand and the history and
being there at the hundredth and knowing how many people
have sat in these seats and appreciating. That but, yeah we're,

(11:24):
very very excited for the future of the radio.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
Station, well and one of the things that we talked
about that we're so excited about just as people who
are so dedicated to the people we listen, to and
we love our listeners so. Much so many people have
been reaching out to us in the last several months
the last, year they've bought new cars or they've updated their,
technology and suddenly they didn't have access TO wbt eleven

(11:49):
TEN am the way that they did before that THE
am wasn't in some manufactured cars that were manufactured after
the year twenty, twenty and they wanted to make sure
that they could hear us and figure out the best
ways to hear, us and we're not getting rid of our.
Streaming people were asking in other parts of the, country
can they still listen ON wbt dot. Com, yes absolutely.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Positively we're just taking our local radio signal and making
it even more. Powerful but, yes you can still listen
to it's all the ways you could.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Before.

Speaker 7 (12:19):
Absolutely, Well bow And i've been here the longest AND
i as you, know we used to market this as
you could hear eleven ten am From maine To miami To,
cuba and so we've always been proud of that. Power
but you're talking about moving to the quality OF fm
one hundred thousand watch signal like this is really this
is a landmark. Day this is like one of those
days in the history of one hundred and three.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Years that's.

Speaker 7 (12:40):
Fantastic so congratulations. Everybody you said fifteen to twenty people
have been working on. That it's a great, concept and
appreciate all the hard.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
Work.

Speaker 7 (12:49):
Mike my suggestion still stands with THE fm lock it
in rip the noob off if you want to use.
THAT i don't THINK i was ever used that, before but,
no lock it in rip the nov.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Off just think about. It, well you, KNOW i will
take that into it.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
Considering, WELL i also think to what you just said
is so important because when we said those statements about
how far you can reach, us we didn't have streaming back.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Then, right there was no.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Streaming you still can hear us all through you can
hear us.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Worldwide and so many people listen TO wbt in modern
times on. Demand they listened to it On, spotify they
listened to it AT wbt dot, com they listened to
it on The Worldwide mobile. App AS i always, say
and so. Listen you all know how DEVOTED i am
to the history of these call. LETTERS i have put my,

(13:37):
heart my, soul every ounce of my being into making
sure that the call letters are preserved and they're honored
the way they should. Be the one hundredth anniversary several years,
ago that was a tremendous labor of. Love AND i
believe properly honored and commemorated this station after a century of,
service because it's built on the shoulders of so many

(13:59):
people that were in that room that. Night BUT i
want this station to exist for another century or well
into another. Century and this move right Here this is
the move that best positions us to carry on that.
Torch there is no question about. It LIKE i said,
before this is the PREMIERE fm signal in this region
and the opportunity for us to be on again what

(14:22):
has been in the past WBT, fm not wbt as
we are right now in that, form but the call LETTERS.
Wbtfm there's one other place where those have been and
here we are right. Now we're going to really lean
into this starting On thursday and take this station into
a new era of. Broadcasting and all of the people
that you listen to now and all of the people

(14:44):
that we still honor to this, day The tyboid studio
is not going. ANYWHERE i try to Say tybloid as
often AS i can every, day because, again those are
the shoulders we're built, on and The Grady coles And
Bob lacy's AND i could go on and. On none
of us in this room are ever going to forget
any of. Them this is the way to make sure
that legacy lives on into the. Future and at the

(15:07):
end of the, day that's the most important thing is
can we keep this going?

Speaker 4 (15:11):
ABSOLUTELY i, MEAN i think you just you've just nailed.
It it's keeping the legacy. Going and this move is
the way that we are going to keep is so
important amazing radio station. Going and as you, said for
the next, hundred the next two, HUNDRED i plan us
being around here, forever my great great great great great great.
Grandchildren we're listening TO wbt on THE.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Fm, well and, look As beth, said you, know there
are some young people right now that don't even know
WHAT am. Is there are some cars that are being
built that don't HAVE am in. Them we LOVE, am
but the reason we LOVE am is because of what it's.
Been AND fm one oh seven point nine gives us
the best ability to keep THE am dream alive of

(15:55):
WHAT wbt the brand has been for one hundred and three.
Years and so again coming up up On thursday one
oh seven point, NINE FM Wbt CHARLOTTE'S Fm News talk
a brand new era for this radio station.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
And best will sound so smooth IN, fm but it'll be.

Speaker 5 (16:13):
Like a whipped cream.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Sandwich so.

Speaker 7 (16:18):
With, all is that a thing that's putter than my
suggestion rip the, No, yeah it's a whip cream.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
Sandwich and we have the ideas to just through the
roof right.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Now so we have so.

Speaker 7 (16:28):
Much we're still working out some of the, cakes
