Tyjani Beztati (25), drievoudig lichtgewichtkampioen bij Glory die op 11 maart opnieuw zijn titel verdedigt, schoof tweeënhalve week voor zijn gevecht aan als gast bij In de Ring, de vechtsportpodcast van het AD.
De eerste ronde staat in het teken van het ‘kampioenengevecht’ van Beztati tegen de 27-jarige Petch uit Thailand, de ervaren kampioen in het vedergewicht. De lichtgewichttitel van Beztati staat op het spel in het Topsportcentrum Rotterdam. Met veel vertrouwen en een constante glimlach op zijn gezicht vertelt de onder de Marokkaanse vlag vechtende Beztati over het gevecht dat hem te wachten staat. ,,Petch heeft ongeveer 200 partijen gevochten in zijn carrière, maar nooit tegen iemand als ik.”
Bonjasky vindt Beztati een complete vechter, ‘een soort Terminator’, en in ronde twee gaat het over de weg die ‘The Wonderboy’ heeft afgelegd. Beztati vertelt over zijn ‘huiswerk’, het bekijken van beelden van boksers en vechters uit het verleden, zoals Sugar Ray Robinson en Sugar Ray Leonard.
