On India: A Story in the Making, we often talk about how stories travel — and this time, we lived it across three continents. The film “I’m Not an Actor,” directed by Aditya Kripalani and starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Chitrangada Satarupa, was shot across continents — simultaneously in India and Germany over 28 days, with both actors performing live through a screen. So, it felt fitting that on India: A Story in the Making, we too brought together three continents — I was in London, Nawazuddin and Chitrangada joined from Mumbai, and Aditya spoke from Germany. Technology, put to good use, brought us together for a truly global conversation. An Indo-German collaboration, the film reflects a larger cinematic shift. Cinema has always been the world’s cultural bridge — a soft power that connects hearts before borders. No wonder Prime Minister Starmer, on his recent visit to India, announced major Indo-UK collaborations with Yash Raj Films, while Germany too has opened its arms to international partnerships through its new 2024–25 Film Funding Reforms— increasing grants and tax incentives of up to 30% to attract global productions. For Indian filmmakers, it’s a wider canvas than ever before. With India’s cinema audience among the largest in the world, it’s no surprise that Indian stories are finding new homes and audiences abroad. “I’m Not an Actor” premiered in the UK at the Bradford Film Festival and is now screening in select VUE, ODEON, and independent cinemas across the country —one more story reminding us that cinema continues to bridge continents, one frame at a time.
