Speaker 3 (00:28):
Mark dykeden in today as Kevin Bona is on the
paternity leave, brand new daddy for their third Congratulations to
Kevin and Maddie playing.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Man playing went from playing Manda Manda Zone now so
good luck.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
I just remember having two under two, and I don't
know how far apart your kids are.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
I think two or three years apart.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Right, they are twenty seventeen, twenty nineteen, twenty twenty one,
so about two years each. I had sixteen months. I
don't know how people do it like that was that
was permanent birth control for us. Love our kids, would
never trade them for anything in the world. The greatest
thing that's ever happened to us in our lives. Both
kids but I was scared to death after having two
under two.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
My favorite day of the ever as a dad was
the day I was like, we don't have to buy
diapers anymore. They're all body training. What do we do
with all these who wants these pampers right now because
we don't need them. That's the greatest feeling too, when
you're like, some of these costs are going to go
down because diapers ain't cheap.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
And God bless people with like four, five, six, seven,
eight nine kids. God honestly, nothing but respect.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Respecting a bit of insanity, because my thing has always
been when I see big families like that, I might
I was like, how are you going to the grocery store?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Is this just like a one? How are you bringing
these people a shuttle bus?
Speaker 5 (01:41):
Bulk?
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Just buy everything in bulk. The cults are winning in bulk.
How about that they bounce back from their loss at Pittsburgh.
They win on a neutral field in Berlin eight and two,
their record on the season right now, and they get
an overtime victory against the UH.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
I expected a tough game from the Atlanta Falcons, I'll
be honest with you.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
It did not surprise me. They got some players over there.
Man John Robinson is for real. Drake London was tearing
us up all day long. Michael Pennix throws a nice
foot bottom of if he's a great quarterback. Yet, at
this point in time, they've got a really good defense.
That's not a terrible team. I know they're only three
and five or three and six now, it's not a
terrible football team.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
No, they do have some talent on that roster. That's
why we're kind of getting a little nervous, Like well,
the international games, it seems like, you know, despite the
Colts technically being the home team in the game, it's
more it's a neutral site, and obviously the travel schedule
affects people. But that that Falcons defense, they've had us
in ups and downs, and they definitely had more ups yesterday.
I would say, despite the loss, they took it to
(02:41):
Daniel Jones and that offensive line for the Colts and
raises my eyebrows some more. As I was watching that
game yesterday, like all right, this is you know, was
the Steelers game just to blip on the radar? Is
this like cause for concern for a couple of things,
Because all of a sudden, Daniel Jones is turning the
ball over a little bit more. He's getting a little
bit of butterfingers going with the football and all that.
The offensive line is sudden become a sieve where you're
giving up twelve secs. He's helped them though, no he's not.
(03:04):
But the offensive line is gave up nine sacks in
the first eight games. Now they've been up twelve in
the last two. I mean, something's gone wrong there. I
don't know what's going on there.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
I don't know if Shane Steichen has to maybe think
about changing up his play calling a bit going forward,
because while your offensive line is going through these struggles,
do you need to start adjusting for the blitz that
the defenses are bringing you and maybe do some shorter
out routes or something like that, or just more checkdown passes.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
I don't know what it is, but they buy. We
could not come at a more perfect time in my
opinion for the Colts because you've escaped with you know,
he split the last two games, but your offensive line
is starting a little bit looking a little bit leaky.
Is a great time to get right, get healthy, and
start figuring out where we airing In these last two
games and can we get right before we take on
the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (03:47):
I think it's a great point mark about adjusting because
I think last week a lot of the talk and
he Shane coach Shane Steigen was asked about it in
the press conferences this week about like getting away from
the run, and I think this week, when it was
still a one score game, got Jonathan Taylor involved, kept
him in it, kept the defense having to respect him,
and then event he eventually broke loose. And I think
(04:07):
when it comes to Justin, you're so right about some
of the deep routes that the Colts were running. Gave
Daniel Jones no answers, and so I think it's a
lot of different things. It's on Daniel's on the line,
it's on Styking. They'll have to get it cleaned up
in the by. They leaned on Jonathan Taylor. He touched
the ball thirty or five times. Thirty five times.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
That I mean again, if a running back is gonna
win MVP, you gotta be putting up numbers, and he
is putting up numbers a week. In a week, how
many times has he ran for three touchdowns? This season?
Like four or five times, it's insane what he is doing.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Tomlinson's over there going I don't know if my record's
gonna hold up.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
I mean, he has been absolutely unbelievable. And all I
can think of is, like, if you take Jonathan Taylor
off of this team, especially you know how they've been
playing lately, Like what would even they look like right now?
I mean, it could have gotten really ugly yesterday because
if you take those three touchdowns off the board that
he had, you're losing that game. Losing that game because
you're getting a little too aggressive I think in the
red zone at times. There's times I was yelling at
(05:05):
Chain psyching Yestery, just take the points, take the points,
just take the field goal and see what's going on.
But I understand he's got some concerns about the field
goal kicker. Badly, he was on the scrap heap bad.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
He was short on the long one. The accuracy was okay,
and he's just short on that. I mean, he was
on the scrap peap for a reason. You're on your
backup kicker right now, so is always going to be rough.
But if you can lean on a guy like Jonathan
Taylor who's having an MVP like season. You do that
seven days a week and twice on Sunday. Yeah, I
always injured. Indiana just tweeted at me. It's not the line.
(05:36):
I've seen Smith get beat too much, but it's DJ
and the offense as a whole not having a.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Blitz beeaeder, a hot route screen, et cetera. Pit in
Atlanta started bringing six seven guys. No line is picking
that up. Have to throw hot and make him pay.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
And you're right, the bye comes with a good time
because they got to self diagnose what's going on with
that offensive line and with defending that pass rush over the.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Last I trust that coaching staff to get it right too.
They're gonna be you know, looking at film and everything
like that and start seeing what's going on. Because again
the schedule amps up. Did you see what you know?
The Kansas City Chiefs are still the Kansas City Chiefs.
You've got a lot of division games coming up. Oh,
by the way, you've also got the Seattle Seahawks. Look,
who look like one of the best teams in the
NFL right now. Do you see what they were doing yesterday?
(06:19):
They were tearing people up defensively, And so you've got
a tougher schedule going out. You are going to face
teams that are not going to be afraid to charge
the offensive line and come after Daniel Jones, especially if
they think that he's vulnerable to turn it over, which
he has been the last couple of weeks. So they've
got some big questions. And I open the phone lines
as well. Three one, seven, two, three, nine, ten seventy,
I who want to weigh in, what are your thoughts
(06:39):
not only about the eight and two start, but how
you feel about the team going into the bye week.
You got some concerns about the offensive line, Daniel Jones,
all that going forward, because the other thing I was
thinking of during the game yesterday was, boy, this Daniel Jones,
this better not be more consistent to see of what
we're seeing as opposed the first eight games, because the
Colts have made their decision that he is going to
be the guy going forward considering what they be able
(07:01):
to acquire. Sauce Gardeners. So you have no first round
picks the next two years, you better hope that Daniel
Jones the last two weeks doesn't keep showing up because
you've got no You've got no fail safe here So
Daniel Jones has got to be the guy. You've got
to get him right. Change Stiken's got to work with
him and get that going. But he is your answer
at quarterback for the time being, whether you're franchise tagging
(07:21):
him or signed to a long term extension. He's the
guy going forward. So you cannot have Daniel Jones of
New York show up. You need Daniel Jones of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jones needs to make a return. Avoid the Boulder, Indiana Jones,
Avoid the Boulder.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Matt C texting in Jeff, I'm glad they pulled that
one out because if not, that loss was one hundred
percent on Stich and his desire to go for it
on third and fourth down and on fourth down inside
the thirty is.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
Going to cause losses.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
He is, you know, to analytics, too analytic and needs
to get a feel for the game. A lot of
typos in there, Matt, Sorry, I know you're you're you
like me my thumbs aren't that.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Either, I know he's saying, but yeah, there's times again
I'm like, I know Badeley's not the best kicker, but
there are times I'm just settle for the points. It
is one of those games where it's like you need
to just escape out of Berlin with a win. You
need to just get that done. And there's times where,
I mean, that game look very questionable that they're even
going to get out of their stay competitive. It's like,
sometimes you just want to be like, just take the points,
take the three points, fight for another day, just get
(08:19):
out of there with one. They ended up doing that
because on the legs of Jonathan Taylor. But I don't envy,
you know, maybe taking a pause a little bit on
the whole aggressiveness and everything like that every once in
a while, because sometimes you just need points. Sometimes you
just need points and you can take the wind down
of the sales of the opponent.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Also, the other thing is I look at my Twitter
account because I always like to check and see if
people are reaching out that way. It feels like, and
I don't know, maybe it's just me Mark, I'm feeling magnetic.
I have a lot of self confidence right now. Every
time I tweet now I attract five or six unbelievably
gorgeous women that also just want to follow me and
make contact.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Look at that.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
How's that work?
Speaker 7 (08:56):
I know?
Speaker 2 (08:57):
My dms are always like, are you single? Are you
in town?
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Like, no, you you should know by now. I'm always like,
where were you fifteen years ago? I'm sure they're all
I'm sure they're all legit. I'm sure they're all real too.
There definitely it's not a forty eight year old dude
somewhere in Africa right now, right, No, I know.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
I was just like, yeah, I'm always amazing, Like my
I didn't know I had this. SU's ma chiese.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Most that's charisma until they slide into the DMS, all right.
The commission also a text in the two through nine
ten seventy on the fan text line, Shane has forgotten
that field goals are important. No overtime if we kick
instead of going on fourth down. A lot of people
really going on that. Chris Landers says he can't blame Jones.
Any quarterback that gets sacked at this rate is going
(09:37):
to fumble. Yet zero pocket time. This all falls on
the O line. I think it's a lot more complicated.
I think the offensive line is struggling against the blitz
right now. They don't really have anybody that's picking it
up on the second in the second level of the
backfield at this point in time. He's not exactly mister calm,
cool and collected the last couple of weeks every time
(09:57):
under that blitz.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
There's a lot of things going on right now.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yes, he had a lot of deer in the headlights
look at times yesterday, which I don't blame him. He
had a bloody mouth at the end of the game
and all that because he was taking some real shots.
The offensive line has just got to be better. You've
got to be better. You've shown that you can be
one of the more stout units in the entire NFL
through the first eight games. Again, I don't know what's
happened in the last two weeks. I'm gonna rewatch the
game later today as well, but there are some issues
(10:21):
going on there. And again I trust the coaching staff
to get them right heading into heading into the Chiefs game,
because you're gonna need it down the stretch. You cannot
let Daniel Jones get injured. You gonna be struggling to
just protect him all the time because those shots are
going to add up eventually and he's gonna be, you know,
worse for wear.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
Adamkay, he's got a new nick. He likes that new
nickname for you much. Che's mo Mark.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Hey, I'll take it's better handle that's how that goes.
I'll take it.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Uh, that's exactly what's.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Going on there. It's better than other nicknames that I
usually get.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
Jimmy wants to know where did play action?
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Go boy, you're not kidding, because yeah, as well as
Jonathan Taylor is running right now, I did see a
lack of play action. You think you know? They always
say you run to set up the pass, and you've
got a workhorse in the backfield and Jonathan Taylor and
just I don't know and not seeing it. I don't
know if that is just they're just playing the game
how it's playing out or whatever. But the lack of
(11:13):
play action. You want to help out your running game
or your offensive line in your passing game. Do some
play action, guys, trust k Taylor will take some defenders away.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
Could I I know, we're I agree there are issues here, okay,
but up.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
Sitting in Mark, because Mark is sitting in for Kevin
and James is going to join us from Berlin at nine.
Speaker 6 (11:32):
While I have this microphone and I have the platform
to say this, I am gonna say I I do
think there is there is an element of other guys
in the other team get paid to and adjustments throughout
a season like film gathers and other teams figure out
tendencies and so yes, like all these things should be
(11:53):
pointed out. But also the same time, like I as
a fan, do trust Shane stike In too, just back
and figure out way, especially through the bye week, to
figure those things out. So all these things are valuable
to point out. But I do think like to get
out of there with a wind B eight and two,
it's a lot different than seven and three min take
it and you'll take it now. You know, you definitely
(12:15):
do have to make some changes, come up with some
answers to some heavy blitzing that the other teams are doing.
And so this is all valuable conversation.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
But like they did a great job to get out
of their live Yeah, yeah, they definitely did, because you know,
the worst thing we could be doing is time out
of loss. And you're coming back from that trip from
Berlin and you're gott n Nell and you're heading into
the bye we a sour taste in your mouth. So yes,
eight and two, no one could have seen that coming. Well, no, well,
Jef did because he had this is not surprising, good Jeb.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Oh, you guys, you guys love to hammer me for
a d which I we will.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
But you know, when I said ten or eleven wins,
everybody looked at me like I was nuts. I was
checking to see what was actually in that coffee compan
like this smells like gotch in here?
Speaker 2 (12:56):
No, I hand raised. I was wrong because I thought
this was going to be a fire sale sea and
all that. But they've proven me wrong. They've proven a
lot of people wrong, and eight and two. No one
could have thought that was going to even be remotely
possible heading into the bye week, but they've answered the
bell to this point. Yes they have questions, but you're
also eight and two, and every team's got a little
bit of questions going on. So good to see there.
(13:18):
And you know, we'll see what happens as they get
out of this bye week and everybody returns tries to
get their body clocks right. And then you've got the
Kansas City Chiefs right out of the by which should
be one of the tougher tests of the entire season.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
There are three teams right now in the National Football
League that are eight and two. All of them are
in the AFC. The New England Patriots worrying me a
little bit because I think they found their next generation quarterback.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
And Drake may Man.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
He looks good home road under pressure, He's athletic, he
throws a nice football, smart kid. I think the Patriots
they're well coach now with Rabel over there. They got
a quarterback. And also Travian Henderson look like he looked
at Ohio State yesterday.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Yeah, he ripped off that big run and everything. They
looked very good. And if you would you could have
given me any amount of money if you just said, well,
who are gonna be the top three teams in the
AFC this late in the season. If you have said
the Cheat and the Colts, the Broncos and the Patriots,
I would have said, you are drunk, friend, you need
to sit this one out. But that's the top of
the AFC right now. The Colts, the Broncos, and the
(14:18):
Patriots all at eight and two. And then you've got
the Bills, who's had a horrible loss to the Miami
Dolphins last night. And then you've got the Ravens who
are starting to get on track. They're starting to feel
themselves a little bit more with Lamar Jackson, but the
Bengals know Joe Burrow and the chiefs are starting to
do chiefs things. But at the top of the AFC
South right now, it's a bunch of teams that I
don't think anyone could have seen coming.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
All right, let's go to the phone lines very quickly
for the top of the hour. James Boyd gonna join
us from Berlin in a moment two three, nine ten seventy.
Paul the mailman's are you delivering on a Monday morning
in the snow?
Speaker 4 (14:49):
My man?
Speaker 7 (14:50):
Oh, I'm gonna be delivering. Yeah, but but my route
is mounted, so I'll be okay. I don't walk.
Speaker 8 (14:56):
I say it my truck.
Speaker 9 (14:58):
I gotcha good thing.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
Keep that heater on.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
What you got for me?
Speaker 4 (15:02):
You got about thirty seconds go.
Speaker 8 (15:03):
I got two things.
Speaker 7 (15:05):
One I U h sprout proud of them for stand
winning and sticking it out and Mendoza and the boys.
Speaker 8 (15:13):
Who fought it out.
Speaker 7 (15:14):
And then the second one did the coats. No, it's
not Daniel Jones's fault. They didn't getting stacked that much.
But he didn't get his fault, and he's letting.
Speaker 10 (15:22):
Go of the ball.
Speaker 8 (15:23):
Also, there is a kicker out there now who's suspension
is up, Justin Kick, Justin Tucker, who can get the
job done as far as making long field goals and
be consistent.
Speaker 7 (15:35):
Uh, we need to make a change as far as
the phield goal kick goals, and the coachs need to
make some adjustments as far as the offensive line and
making sure Daniel Jones holds onto the ball. That's the
only problem I have with Daniel Jones is in the
last two games, six fumbles. Yeah, if he can get
that other control, the coach will be just fine and
(15:56):
can make it to the Super Bowl this year.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
All right, Paul, appreciate it, Good luck today, Stay warm.
I do not see Carly Gordon Ursay signing Justin Tucker.
I'm just throwing that out there right now. I bet
your money on that that that wouldn't happen. You seem
to bet my money a lot.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
That's how confident I am that he's not coming.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
It's the best of the best from today's broadcast lineup.
Instant replay continues in a moment on ninety three five
and one oh seven five the Fan. This is instant
Replay today.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Bnquarian Company.
Speaker 9 (16:36):
Hoos.
Speaker 11 (16:37):
Yours are now ten and zero unblemished on the year.
And Don Fisher who joins us after that fabulous call.
By the way, and Don listen, I'll give you a
ton of credit on that because I mean, for the
obvious reason it's an exciting and outstanding call, but to
(16:57):
have the presence of mind to pause there, because because
everyone was thinking, like, wait a minute, is he in
or not? And then you see the replay and the
official gets a ton of credit as well. It was
a home run on all accounts on that play. But
to be able to wait for just a second because
I watch it now, Don and I still think to myself,
did he really make that catch? That's an unbelievable play.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
Drive when you think about all the things that happened
leading up to that play. In that drive, that was
minute and fifty one seconds left in the ballgame, but
it started and it went ten plays and they still
had time at the clock after they scored the touchdown.
It's remarkable how efficient this football team became in what
(17:43):
would be considered a two minute drill at the end
of a ball game. And you've got to give tremendous
credit to Fernando Mendoza who was just hammered all day
long and pressured all day long and made every throw
in the end of that performance that was just spectacular.
Speaker 11 (17:59):
I also thought, don and this is the sign of
a great team or a well coached, well balanced team,
you know when we know. And Elijah Surat has been
a fabulous player for Indiana and he's out due to injury,
and Charlie Becker comes in and basically matches his season
total in terms of receptions. But he made big catch
after big catch, and I thought he was obviously outstanding
(18:23):
as well. And I hate to say this is a
disrespect him, say were you surprised by that? But how
much do you tip your cap to Charlie Becker also
rise into the occasion.
Speaker 5 (18:33):
Well, I watched him in practices the last two years now,
and even as a freshman last year, you could see
that this guy had the tools and the talent to
be really good at some point if he continued to work,
which obviously he's done. And he's had just a couple
of opportunities this year leading up to this ballgame until
(18:56):
last week, of course, when he did play and replace
with Elijah when he had a slight injury to his
lower leg, and they didn't want to. They were being
very cautious with it. And then this week, you know,
he didn't play again, which means that they're making sure
that he is completely healthy when he does come back.
(19:17):
But Charlie stepped in and both those ball games made
some catches, nice catches last week and this week just spectacular.
One hundred and eighteen yards on seven receptions, didn't drop
a ball, just he played just extraordinarily well. And his
talent level is I mean, he's one of the two
or three fastest guys on this Indiana football team. He's
(19:39):
sick four, he's long, and so he's got sized that
hopes him and along with his speed, he's going to
be spectacular for this ball club in the future too.
Speaker 11 (19:50):
Charlie Becker, who is a sophomore by the way out
of Nashville, Tennessee, stepping up for Indiana in that game.
Don you mentioned Mendoza in the fact that you know
that first play of the drive when he got sacked
and he didn't just get sacked, I mean he got
You know, Penn State was aggressive, right, and you think,
oh boy, here we go in terms of Penn State
getting to Mendoza. I know that the offensive line that there,
(20:13):
you know, there have been guys, there are guys that
are hurt. But was there anything differently that is being
done in the way that Indiana is being defended or
is this simply a matter of attrition and new faces
in front of Mendoza?
Speaker 5 (20:27):
Well, it's probably a little bit of a combination. Drew
Evans has been out now for two weeks. In the
offensive line. He's a very talented offensive lineman has done
a good job. He got hurt last year at the
end of the season too. This one I don't think
is season ending. But how long he's out for the
time being, we just don't know. It may be another
(20:51):
couple of weeks, and he may may not play again
in this regular season. I think he would be ready
to come back if he has that opportunity be in
postseason play, which I think Indiana will have. But we'll see.
You don't want to get carried away, and I know
that sounds like coach speaking stuff like that, but I've
got around Indiana football for a long time and I
(21:12):
don't get ahead of myself, if you know what I mean.
That being said, I do think the offensive line was
taking advantage of a little bit inless game, but part
of that was due to the fact that Penn State
they have really good players and this is a good
football team. They just ran into a buzzsaw, well not
a buzzsaal, but they ran into all kinds of struggles
(21:34):
here in the last four or five ball games in
which they lost. Their coach gets fired. This team was
playing for something on Saturday. Because Indiana goes in. There's
the number two ranked team. They hadn't played a home
game in three weeks, Penn State, I'm talking about now,
and they go in, there's the number two ranked team
in the country, unbeaten at that point. This made their
(21:57):
season if they beat Indiana. Didn't Now, they still have
enough tools to go in and the next three games,
win those games because I think they're capable of beating
anybody they play at this point the rest of the season.
But this team, this was their Rose Bowl, this was
their bowl game, it was their college football playoff game,
(22:18):
whatever you want to call it. This was the game
that they wanted to point to and they wanted to
win badly, and they had a great game plan put
against Indiana. They put pressure on Fernando Mendoza the entire ballgame.
He got hit many times and still hung in there
and did what he had to do. But that offensive line,
(22:38):
I guarantee it. That's the one area that I know
Kurt Signetti's going to look at very closely after the
film and he will have some things to say to
that offensive line after that ballgame, because obviously it wasn't
good enough a good portion of that ballgame.
Speaker 11 (22:52):
Up next for Indiana is Wisconsin. Then it's the bucket
game and if they hold serve, then it would be
into the Big ten champapionship games. Still football to be
played between now and then. Don I'm curious of this.
I saw so much discussion of this in a fun way.
You know, my friends that went to Indiana and fans
of Indiana, everybody was talking about on Saturday evening. You know,
(23:14):
I really think that like Upstairs Pub and Nix and
Kilroy's and all of them, they probably already were blowing
up the still frame of that catch to be able
to put it on the wall in the establishments in Bloomington.
Right And in terms of plays basketball, there are a
ga billion of them. I mean Keith smart Shot and
Jay Edwards and the watch shot, and you know, on
and on and on. But in terms of football plays
(23:36):
and the time that you have done it, don what
other plays come to mind that would be as emphatic
and exciting a football play?
Speaker 4 (23:45):
Is that one that you saw?
Speaker 5 (23:47):
Well, I you know, there have been a lot of
great plays, individual plays and things like that in ball
games through the years. The one thing I can say
about that catch and that particular play was how important
it was at the time it was done. I mean,
you see really great plays from a lot of great
(24:09):
athletes around the country every college weekend. Everybody's looking at
that play. This guy bought it down with one hand,
you know, pulled it in with one arm, and all
that kind of thing. You see, all these kinds of
things that happened. The question is when did they happen
and were they game changer or were they the difference
at a ballgame? And that was certainly that And I
(24:30):
can't remember. You know, I've got a bad memory. I
can tell you that, Jake, I don't have the memory
that a lot of people have. I know you have
a better memory than I always thought having, So I
know this. But the fact of the matter is I
can't think of anything I saw that was better from
a football standpoint at Indiana than that particular play.
Speaker 11 (24:50):
Yeah, I mean it was. And again all aspects of it,
the throw, the moxie, the leaping ability, the body balance,
the officiating, the radio call, all of it, right, it
was a pretty awesome moment for certain. Let's get to
basketball real quick down before we let you go. Shaka
smart is a is a great basketball coach and his teams,
you know, are known for their defensive intensity and for
(25:14):
that reason, I thought it was super impressive what Indiana
was able to do by getting one hundred up on Marquette.
One hundred to seventy seven was the final score. Tucker
Devreeze had lightning in a bottle there for a while,
finished with twenty seven. But what I like about this team,
and I watched him against the Alabama A and M
as well, is they moved the ball around quickly, and
they have multiple guys that can score quickly off of
(25:37):
a pass, but then at the same time can reset
back into a structured offense. And I like the way
that they moved the ball around. What jumped out at
you about that game against Marquette.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
Well, obviously the shooting jumped out because they had twenty
seven assists on thirty three baskets and they shot fifty
percent of them point line of the contest. When's the
last time Indiana did that with twenty eight three pointers
being shot. And it's not to say that we haven't
had that kind of performance before, But Tucker de Breeze
(26:13):
had twenty four points in the first half, just one
three point field goal in the second half. And then
who steps up in the second half, Lamar Wilkerson. He
had one three pointer in the first half. He had
five more in the second half. They both were six
of nine, six of ten in the ball game. And
to have two guys that step up like that, and
(26:33):
then there are other guys in this team that are
capable of knocking down threes to help out. I just
think that's the one thing that impresses me more than
anything else, is the fact that Indiana has multiple guys
who can shoot the three now and the fact that
they spread the ball all the time. They are not
selfish players in any way, shape or form, and they
(26:56):
love playing together. And to say that about a roster
that's just been put together in the last five months
and to go on a couple of exhibition games in
San Juan, Puerto Rico, and then to play a couple
of exhibitions here and now two regular season ball games,
one of which is against the very quality opponent Marquette.
(27:17):
This team has something special going on right now, and
if they can maintain that through this season, they're going
to be better than people ever thought they could be.
Speaker 11 (27:26):
Don I know that making a comparison between Indiana and
then dare I say at Purdue is dangerous from a
fan based standpoint, I get it, but I wanted your
thought on this. I was watching Lamar Wilkerson and I'd
seen him a little bit. You know, obviously, this is
a guy that has scored a ton of points over
the course of his college career. But I had seen
him in the Alabama A and M in game in particular,
(27:48):
and I'll tell you who it reminded me of it.
He's a bigger version of it. But he strikes me
if you recall Carson Edwards that played at Purdue, and
by that I mean he has kind of a quick
step lightning in a bottle ten see about him where
if he hits a shot or two, it looks like
you think to yourself, well, Katie, bar the door. This
guy all of a sudden, just can he's in a
zone automatically. What has been your observation of him offensively?
(28:13):
Em And am I off base with that comparison?
Speaker 5 (28:17):
No, he is lightning in a bottle and if he
hits the first couple of shots, you're in for a
top night because he could flat shoot the basketball. He
was eight of nineteen yesterday, but his hot hand took
place in the second half when they needed it. And
if you remember that game yesterday, they got in early
file trouble and there was a multiple guys that were
(28:39):
with two or three file not three, but two were
at least two files early in the ballgame, and it
looked like Indiana was going to have some problems offensively
with the rest of the day, especially if anybody got
more file trouble, which they did as the game went on.
But it was one guy that took place in the
first half, one guy in the second half. But Wilkerson
(29:01):
in my opinion, and I've watched him in practices as
much as I've watched him and the other ballgames that
he's played so far, and exhibitions and the sand laund
trip and all that kind of thing. The guy could
just flat shoot the basketball. And that's the reason that
Darren de Brees went after him, because he knew what
kind of a shooter he was. And that's how much
value I think Darren puts on guys that can shoot
(29:23):
the three, because this is a game that the game
changing things that happen in basketball these days oftentimes are
with three point shots. And if you've got multiple guys
that can put those shots in the basket, you've got
something special there, and I think this team has now.
Speaker 11 (29:40):
Indiana Wednesday night taking on Milwaukee. That game is a
seven o'clock start. You can hear it of course on

basketball wise, both really good weekend for Indiana sports. Appreciate

Replay earlier this afternoon.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
I'm a ride with jmv.
Speaker 9 (30:56):
Hi.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
You saw him yesterday.
Speaker 12 (30:58):
He was on fire in the firm staff and so
were the Hoosiers one hundred and seventy seven over Marquette
in Chicago. And he is the new member old school
basketball player, but a new member of this Hoo's your program.
Tucker devrees kind of enough to join us.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Now.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Hey, Tucker, thank you very much for the time.
Speaker 12 (31:16):
How are you.
Speaker 9 (31:18):
I'm doing great, Thanks for having me.
Speaker 12 (31:20):
I'm fired up to have you on the show because
I love hoop and I love watching great shooters shoot.
And you had one hell of an afternoon yesterday in Chicago.
I think from the first point on, do you know
anytime during warm ups or maybe with that first shot
going down, that this may be your afternoon or evening
(31:40):
if you will, like it was yesterday for you.
Speaker 9 (31:44):
Not really, I.
Speaker 10 (31:45):
Mean after the first one or two go in and
obviously it gives a lot of confidence for the next
few but you know, just trying to stay part part
of the course and you know, they just happened to
be going down yesterday.
Speaker 12 (31:58):
How often do you work on and you know, obviously
people think about the shot Tucker in general and it
just going down, But the mechanics of the shot yours
seems to be as smooth as anybody we see. How
often do you work just on the mechanics alone of
getting that shot off and feeling comfortable and then seeing
that positive result.
Speaker 10 (32:19):
Yeah, I think, you know, a lot of it just
comes down to reps and you know, being confident in
the work that you put in, you know, every day,
just working on different ways to get shots off and
you know, finding ways to get open even without the ball.
But I thought yesterday the team did a great job
of you know, uh, finding the hot hand and happened
(32:40):
to me in the first half and then Lamar in
the second half I thought was really good for our offense.
Speaker 12 (32:46):
Yeah, it's good to see too, because they they made
a clear adjustment at the half and then you know,
Lamar steps up as you mentioned in the second half,
and then you know has his moment as well. What's
the old Indiana basketball experience been like for you so
for not just I you in general, but the state
of basketball and obviously our love here in the state.
How has that been in your short time in Indiana.
Speaker 9 (33:09):
Well, I think it's been great.
Speaker 10 (33:10):
It's obviously awesome to be able to play in front
of such a passionate fan base, and I think that
showed yesterday and then our first home game and just
how much they embrace Indiana basketball. And I know we're
we're extremely excited to you know, keep it going and
play again on Wednesday in front of you know, hopefully
another great crowd and just continue the success and you know,
(33:35):
make this fan base proud of what it's like to
be at Indiana basketball.
Speaker 12 (33:38):
As you mentioned, you get Milwaukee coming up on Wednesday,
and Tucker Devrees is joining us on the Andy Moro
Automotive Group highline, you guys, and I know Shaka smart.
Marquette's coach remarked about this after the game. You guys
look really in tune, in cohesive with one another, even
though it's been a short time and everybody is all
new on this team. T Were you surprised that you
(34:02):
guys were that connected in a game like that yesterday
because it looked like you guys have been together for
a while.
Speaker 10 (34:10):
Yeah, I think I wasn't really surprised yesterday, but I
think a little bit surprising how quickly it happened throughout
the fall. I think, you know, probably a month before
the season when things really started to click, especially offensively,
of just everybody really knowing how to play together. We
have an extremely unselfish group, which makes it, you know,
really hard to guard when everybody's sharing the ball, moving
(34:31):
without the basketball, and screening for one another, which I
think is what makes our offense so dynamic. And then
just the floor spacing of what we have for opens
up driving lanes for everybody one through five, which is
also unique for our offense.
Speaker 12 (34:47):
Yeah, the ball pops the ball really, Tucker, I'm sorry
to interrupt, The ball pops too. And normally, normally when
when you're first timers or a short time or with
one another. There's a tendency to have the ball stick, right,
is somebody trying to find their comfort area and you know,
something off the dribble, but the ball popped. I thought
as about as well as you could ask for it
(35:09):
this early in the season yesterday.
Speaker 10 (35:12):
Yeah, And I think especially with the way Marquette plays
their style of defense of you know a lot of
pressure and you know, trying to turn turn you over,
I thought it was important for us if we could
just you know, kind of break that initial pressure and
get them move in a little bit and use it
against them a little bit more to get you know,
great shots after handling that initial pressure was very important.
(35:35):
I thought we did a great job of that yesterday,
and I think the results showed for that.
Speaker 12 (35:39):
He is Tucker devrees with us. How's the experience been,
whether we're talking about Drake or at West Virginia or
now at Indiana playing for your father, It's some good.
Speaker 10 (35:51):
Obviously there's good days and bad days, but you know,
I wouldn't trade it for anything. I think it's been
a great experience for both of us to be able
to experience you know, my career together and just kind
of the steps that it's taken for both of us
to get to this point, and being able to experience
those together as the really special.
Speaker 12 (36:09):
I always thought it may take a little extra I
don't know, You've got to soak up a lot, don't you.
I mean, because you never, really, truly, I'm assuming, get
away from it. And that's why I think it's a
lot different for you. So you almost have to be
built a little bit different to be I think the
son playing for the father, especially at this level, is
(36:30):
that how it's been for you at three stops?
Speaker 5 (36:32):
Now?
Speaker 9 (36:34):
Yeah, I think it's.
Speaker 10 (36:35):
I mean, obviously basketball is a big part of my life,
so I mean it consumes a lot of my attention, but.
Speaker 9 (36:41):
I wouldn't want it any other way.
Speaker 10 (36:43):
I think it's you just got to kind of embrace
embrace it, embrace the expectations and just take a head
on and know that you put in a lot of
work to get to this point and just go out
there and showed it every night.
Speaker 12 (36:53):
All right, Tucker, what do you think ultimately the ceiling
is for this team? Or would you allow yourself even
to describe a ceiling as such this early in the season.
Speaker 10 (37:06):
I don't think there's a pinpointed ceiling. I think, you know,
to be honest, I thought we played all right yesterday,
but there's just so much more after watching the game
that we're capable of getting better at. And I think
with that being said and having the results that we've had,
I think that's you know, a good feeling to have
(37:26):
to know that there's so much more potential to tap
into for this team, and I think every day, as
long as we're continuing to try and get to that point,
I think it's gonna result in a lot of good
things this year.
Speaker 12 (37:36):
Tucker, give us a couple of things that you guys
have to improve upon, because really a lot of people
see the way you shot it.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
You know, I mentioned that the ball.
Speaker 12 (37:43):
Movement, the cohesion, and then you know, getting to the
century mark and winning going away. But what are some
of the things that stood out to you that you
have to improve upon coming off of that win yesterday.
Speaker 10 (37:56):
I'd say defensively. I mean, it's pretty easy to point
out the fouls, but to be honest, I think it's
more our cohesiveness on defense and just you know, being
in the right spots more of the time, and especially
a team like yesterday where they're they're really trying to
put their head down, and I mean it's what they're
good at.
Speaker 9 (38:13):
They're they're good at drawing fouls, getting in the paint.
Speaker 10 (38:15):
But I think as a group, if we can you know,
really tone in and be build that chemistry on defense
throughout the year, I think that that's going to be
a big part of us reaching our you know, full potential.
And then offensively, I think if we're able to you know,
continue to move it the way we're moving it and
get the ball movement, and I think we have enough
(38:37):
guys that can make a lot of shots that it's
gonna be really hard for teams to guard that.
Speaker 12 (38:42):
He has tuck a Devrees twenty seven points in the
win you over Marquette yesterday. He's on the Andy Moore
Automotive Group potline. You know what's funny, we go back
a couple of years. Even though you don't know this,
I'm an Indiana State guy, so there I was baseline
two years ago the MVC Arch Madness Chainampionship and you're
going off for what twenty seven and seven? And the
(39:04):
thing that stood out to me for the team that
you were a part of, you and your dad at
Drake was the connection and I thought that you were
the one of the most connected teams that I had
seen all season Law. It was like you were just
like the sum of all your parts, you know, kind
of unified right there. Is that the ultimate compliment in
this team sport is when you look like you did then,
(39:27):
And is that what you strive to do with this
group and year number one at Indiana, Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 10 (39:34):
I mean there's no better feeling than you know, all
five guys being on the same page, super connected and
just helping each other out and kind of like I
said before, it's more of the chemistry on defense that
it can take some time to build. And I think
that that year at Drake, throughout the year, at beginning
of the year, we weren't great defensively, and then by
the end of the year, I think we ended up,
(39:54):
you know, one of the best best defensive teams in
the country, and I think throughout this year that's going
to be key for us to continue to get better
on that end. And I think there's a lot of
lot of tools that we have on this team that
are able to get to that point. So hopefully we're
able to get there and I think that that parts
something people may not realize as much as the chemistry
(40:17):
on defense as it is on offense.
Speaker 12 (40:19):
Yeah, I like I put it to this, and I'm
not making comparisons to that team or this team or
any team of the NBA, but that's what it felt
like with the Pacers, for example, at the NBA level
last year. I mean these guys, I mean you have
the super scouting going on right now where they know
you're every move and what you're going to do, and
anticipate it, you know, weeks in advance, and prepare for it.
(40:40):
But I think if you guys are connected in a
group like one, it is really hard to scout that
and to defend that. And I thought we saw that
with the Pacers, and that's a special brand of basketball
to me. And I saw that with your Drake team
two years ago as you guys won the MVC. And
I'm assuming that's as a basket ballplayer, what you strive
(41:01):
for in the whole team concept.
Speaker 9 (41:02):
Is that fair?
Speaker 10 (41:04):
Yeah, I think anytime you can have all five guys
on the same page on both ends of the floor,
it's going to result in a lot of good things.
So I think as time goes, We're we're going to
continue to build that chemistry on both ends and continue
to play at a high level, so hopefully that can
lead to the results we're shriving for.
Speaker 5 (41:22):
He is.
Speaker 12 (41:22):
Tucker devrees with us. So, how's the enjoyment wise watching
what this football program is doing in Bloomington right now?
Speaker 3 (41:29):
For you?
Speaker 9 (41:30):
I mean it's awesome.
Speaker 10 (41:31):
It's been fun to you know, go to a lot
of their games here, you know, and see the success
they've had has been great for you know, just the campus,
the town and you can just see the fan base
and the town rally around them, and that's you know,
been really special looking forward to, you know, seeing them
finish off the year and do special things because it's
(41:52):
it's been a lot of fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (41:53):
Man, it's funny, right man, When do you have success
in sports, It just everybody feels good, even if it's
a shore and what you're doing, it feels good with
that shore, does it not?
Speaker 9 (42:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (42:05):
No, it's uh, winning, Winning solves a lot of problems,
it does, Tucker dvrees.
Speaker 12 (42:11):
He joins us, how you like Bloomington in the campus
dot at value?
Speaker 9 (42:16):
It's been great.
Speaker 10 (42:17):
Uh, you know, it's been a lot of fun to
be a part of. And you know see the fan base,
the student body rally around. Uh, you know, both us
and the football team and all the sports. Has been
really cool to have their support. And uh, I've really
enjoyed my time here.
Speaker 12 (42:32):
It's uh, Tucker debrees kind enough to join us? Are
they anymore Automotive Group pol yet? How you get Milwaukee
coming up on Wednesday? And uh, I believe increditt word
coming up after that. But a win yesterday in Chicago
over Marquette and Tucker is on the Andy Moore Automotive
Group potline. Man, I've been wanting to talk to you
for a long time, Indiana State guy right there on
(42:52):
the baseline two years ago, and you break my heart then.
But it's certainly enjoyable to watch you be a part
of this who's your program? And uh and uh and
shoot it and play in that team basketball fashion. It
was fun as hell to watch yesterday. Congratulations on that
and keep moving that arrow up.
Speaker 9 (43:06):
Yeah, well I appreciate that. Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
